SALT CAY & NORTH CAICOS PROJECTS SETBACK Premier silent on future of two major tourism developments

wo multi-million dollar tourism development projects planned for Salt Cay and North Caicos have experienced major setbacks. Reliable sources told The SUN that the Six Senses luxury resort in Salt Cay and the Royal Reef project in North Caicos will be delayed because agreement could not be reached with the Turks and Caicos Islands Government on certain very important terms and conditions pertaining to the two developments. The project in Salt Cay is supposed to be a $200 luxury hotel under the world-renowned Six Senses brand. The SUN was reliably informed that certain high-level officials insisted that one of the principals behind the Salt Cay project must step aside, otherwise the project will have real problems getting certain approvals. Meantime, sources said the North Caicos project, which would have seen the abandoned Royal Reef project at Sandy Point being transformed into a $100-plus million 5-star hotel by Tony Tian, a Chinese developer, did not get approval for certain concessions, although he purchased the land. Premier Hon. Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson is on record as saying that the Turks and Caicos Islands will see an unprecedented level of tourism investment over the next few years.
