NO CORONAVIRUS IN TCI by Hayden Boyce Publisher & Editor-in-Chief

T

here are no reported cases of the dreaded corona virus in the Turks and Caicos Islands, says Minister of Health Hon. Edwin Astwood. In an interview with The SUN, Astwood stated: “I can confirm that there are no suspected cases of the coronavirus in the Turks and Caicos Islands and that not one has presented at any health facilities who are suspected to have the virus. People have presented with flu-lie symptoms, but I’m advised that no suspected cases of coronavirus. Be that as it may, we are continuing to monitor global developments on this new virus and have been having daily meetings among surveillance teams, health disaster teams and various stakeholders. We have meetings planned tomorrow (Friday) with the airport staff including customs, immigration and all other workers. But I really want to assure the public that the ministry has all of the necessary protocols in place. We have asked Cabinet for additional funds for face masks and other protective gear and additional staff is necessary and those funds have been approved.” Astwood also expressed condolences to the family of the young girl who recently passed away, adding that he was advised by medical authorities that coronavirus was not suspected in this cases. The Minister made the clarification following widespread reports that connected at least two recent deaths with the new virus which the World Health Organization declared as a global emergency following its spread to more than a dozen countries and after the number of cases spiked more than tenfold in a week.

The presentation was made on Tuesday, January 28, at Cheshire Hall Plantation in Providenciales. The 2020 calendar theme is “The Colors of the Turks and Caicos Islands” and features the TCI National Costume, national heritage sites, national symbols and the beautiful variety the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) has to offer. in Miami at 3:25 p.m., while the second flight will leave here at 3:18 p.m. and arrive in Miami at 5:23 p.m. On a daily basis, the first flight will leave Miami at 10:35 a.m. and get here at 12:27 p.m., while the second flight will leave Miami at 12:43 p.m. and arrive in Provo at 2:28 p.m. “We are proud of our long history serving the Turks and Caicos and are proud to be the leading carrier to Providenciales,” Pantin told The
