T

he Turks and Caicos Islands will be joining the list of countries in the Caribbean and around the world that are sourcing medical staff from Cuba to help control the spread of the coronavirus. This was revealed by Governor Nigel Dakin who said authorities here are working with Cuba on sourcing medical staff both bilaterally and through Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) “channels”. The Governor also announced that an undisclosed amount of testing and protective equipment is on its way to Turks and Caicos Islands, but he did not say from where.

Since Turks and Caicos closed its borders on Tuesday, March 21st for 21 days, and as the grip from the shutdown and curfew tightens, the Providenciales International Airport is like a ghost town. The runway is clear, check-in counters are empty, screens are off, there are no flight and gate announcements, no passenger lines and no traffic.
