PDM & PNP MPs SEARCHED By Todeline Defralien

A

major investigation, which may involve foreign police, has been launched, after Members of Parliament (MPs) from both the ruling People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) and the opposition Progressive National Party (PNP) were searched by police following the disappearance of Premier Sharlene Robinson’s diary from the House of Assembly in Grand Turk, on Tuesday, February 25th, 20202. Governor Nigel Dakin announced that he had ordered the investigation, after having preliminary discussions with Police Commissioner Trevor Botting, who is currently overseas. Speaking during a press conference held at the Premier’s Providenciales office on Thursday February 27th, 2020, Governor Dakin said: “If it is necessary, the Commissioner and myself will bring in an outside police force to examine this, because police action in and around the House of Assembly is a very serious matter (which) both of us take seriously and we want complete transparency over what occurred. Beyond that I would like to wait until I’ve got the facts in front of me. He (the Commissioner) is personally supervising the investigation into what happened. Continued on page 2

TCI Sport Shooting Association presents the late officer Mauquency Carter’s sons with $4,408.78 cheque The Turks and Caicos Islands Sport Shooting Association in partnership with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force made a generous donation to the sons of Mauquency Carter who lost his life in a tragic car accident in March 2019. A cheque for $4,408.78 was presented to A’Zhi Carter (oldest son) on Friday February 21st at the Police Headquarters.

Due to the successful competition, the association raised close to $10,000 and recently made the special donation to the sons of Mr. Carter, A’Zhi Carter and Adonni Carter. This amount represents fifty percent of proceeds of the Inaugural Annual Mauquency Carter Shooting Competition held on November 23rd, 2019 during the Police Welfare Association’s observance of 220th years Anniversary and Police Week 2019.

remier Hon. Sharlene Robinson says her Government is not happy about the 6.8 percent increase granted to Fortis TCI, but she says under the existing laws the was no other choice. “While we are we are not happy with the rate increase of 6.8% knowing and understand its impact, we are happy that our most vulnerable are protected against an increase,” she said during a press conference at her Providenciales office on Thursday, February 27th, 2020. “Legally we have no grounds to refuse the request as we are bound by law and must take this position. We are however we are happiest about the three other big recommendations and accept them enthusiastically: reducing the cost

of fuel, addressing renewable energy and the power cost adjustment and definitely the need to focus on strengthening the regulatory framework.” The Premier said she is happy to say to that FORTIS and TCIG has agreed to a full rate review in 2021 and we commit as a Government to create initiatives, policies and programs to address reduction in the cost of electricity. “We accept that there must be a stronger Regulatory Framework and you will see efforts intensify in this area.
