BORDERS NOT REOPENING JUNE 1ST By Todeline Defralien

T

he Turks and Caicos Islands’ borders will not open on June 1st, 2020, and will remain closed to international and regional flights until certain critical measures are implemented to ensure this country can effectively deal with the coronavirus outbreak, Premier Sharlene Robinson said. “The June 1st date for the opening of our borders remained a date under review and there will be no reopening of international borders or regional borders on June 1st. Persons will recall that the borders were closed March 24th and saw several date changes which we explained as we shared our regulations and as mentioned earlier all that needs to be put into place, should be in place before we open our international and regional borders,” the Premier said during a national address at her Providenciales office on Wednesday May 20th, 2020. Robinson added that the opening of the borders is tied, among other things, to the hospital upgrade projects. She added: “The opening of the borders of course then is tied to the hospital upgrade projects which are progressing very quickly with a short period of construction works. We want to at least have all of our ventilators hooked up... worst case scenario we need to be able to offer that life supporting mechanism and at this juncture I would like to thank Turks and Caicos Collections for the generous donations of ventilators received by the Minister of Health last week and that complements what we have and have already received from public health of England.
