Visual and Plastic Arts


We call COMMUNICATION any process that involves transmitting information. Human beings are constantly communicating and therefore constantly exchanging information.


We use language, a system of communication that uses certain symbols. We normally use the term ÂŤlanguageÂť in reference to oral or written communication. What are some other languages and types of language that you know?


Visual language is also a very important way that human beings communicate. We communicate visually through the use of images.


The transmitter is who sends the message.

The message is the idea or feeling it transmits.

The receptor is the person who receives the message.

The code is the system of signs used to transmit the message.

The channel is the medium used to transmit the message.


Transmitter? • The Gatorade company and the advertisers

Receptor? • You the consumer!

Message? • Buy this product!

Channel? • Advertising in a magazine
