12 million Euro investment at the Continental electronic components plant in Timişoara

T

he Continental electronic components plant in Timi[oara is investing 12 million Euro in expanding its working facilities. The factory will increase its area by more than 7000 m2. The works will be ready before the end of this year. The cornerstone of the new facility has been laid on May 25, 2016, within an internal ceremony where the factory director, Francisco Xavier Pujol, explained why it was necessary: “Our goal is complete the expansion works before the end of this year, in order to meet the orders of our customers. This investment will result in more than 7000 m2 of office and storage space, as well as social areas (locker rooms, kitchens and rest rooms)”. At the end of the year, the Continental electronic components plant in Timi[oara will have more than 21000 m2. "We want to add more than 1000 R&D employees in Romania this year. The investment is an important step to achieve this growth for both the location and for Continental. We work together and it’s only natural to grow together“, explained Christian von Albrichsfeld, General Manager of Continental Romania.

Continental in Romania In 1999-2015, Continental invested 1.13 billion Euro in its Romanian activities. All the 5 Continental divisions have a

Romanian branch. Continental owns seven production facilities and for R&D centres in Timi[oara, Sibiu, Carei, N`dab, Bra[ov and Ia[i. Continental is a partner of a Slatina joint-venture and has a tyre distribution centre in Bucharest. At the end of 2015, Continental had approximately 16,500 staff and will more than 1000 new members to its Romanian team in 2016.

The EU structural and investments funds support the Romanian high technology

T

he The European Commission approved the second phase of the project “Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics” (ELI-NP) being implemented at M`gurele, Romania. Thus, more than 140 million Euro from the European Regional Development Fund will be earmarked for the continuation of the works initiated in 2013. ELINP is part of the European-wide high-powered lasers research project, “Extreme Light Infrastructure” (ELI), implemented in Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cre]u, stated: “ELI is a symbol for Europe, being the first EU investment in the research infrastructure of the new Member States, a product of European excellence which redraws the frontiers of knowledge by the use of high technology. Thanks to the EU funds, in a matter of just a few years, EU will have a state of the art infrastructure and research equipment, and the results of future research will provide new products and services, thus enabling the economic development of the country and of

the Romanian education.” The second phase of the M`gurele ELI-NP project is co-funded from the 2014-2020 Operational Programme “Competitiveness”, and requires the completion of the construction works until 2018, and the purchasing and installing of scientific research equipment, among which a high-power laser system and a gamma ray system. At the beginning of February this year, the EU commissioner Corina Cre]u approved the first phase of the M`gurele laser project, which was earmarked funding under the 2007- 2013 period. The total amount of eligible expenses in the first phase is 136.4 million Euro, of which 116.3 million Euro (85%) come from the European Regional Development Fund.

Background ELI is an European-wide research project hosted by Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary, aimed at promoting national and European research via an international research infrastructure available to professionals from the scientific, academic and private business environments. In 2006, ELI has been identified by the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), a strategic EU body tasked with promoting scientific integration in Europe, as a priority research infrastructure for Europe. The Romanian project, ELI-NP, is the second pillar of a European-wide structure for lasers. In April 2011, the Commission had already approved 236 million Euro worth of funds for the first ELI pillar in the Czech Republic.

Romania to reach more than 100,000 outsourcing employees in 2017

T

he number of employees in the outsourcing industry will increase by 20% next year and will exceed the 100,000 mark, said C`t`lin Iorgulescu, Managing Director of BPO WNS Global Services Romania. "The number of service outsourcing jobs will most likely increase by 20% in 2017, exceeding the 100,000 threshold, due to the high number of foreign companies investing in Romanian businesses. For instance, this year alone we met some 10 companies which extended their business in our country, and I am sure there will be more to come next year", said C`t`lin Iorgulescu. At the same time, foreign companies extending in Romania are mainly attracted by the cheap labour and the abilities and linguistic skills of the Romanian youth. A slight deficit of job-seekers is felt on this market when new recruitments are made. According to C`t`lin Iorgulescu, the lack of job-seekers is blamed on the automation and engineering of task processes, followed by the fragmentation of complex activities into simpler ones: "One solution to avoid the lack of personnel in this field is automation. For instance, this increasingly widespread technology in our activities is a complete game changer. The advantages are manifold, since a robot does not require medical or annual leave and can work 24/365, with predictable and

accurate results at a lower cost than a human employee", said C`t`lin Iorgulescu. In his opinion, to increase the quality of the university graduates and first-time employees, the education system has to be adapted to the needs of the labour market, and mainly focus on the practical training of the young people.

DTZ: Bucharest, the largest logistic and industrial market in Romania

A

t the end of 2015, the inventory of modern industrial and logistic spaces in Romania exceeded 2 million square metres. Bucharest ranks first with 47% of these spaces, i.e. 960,000 sqm, followed by Timi[oara - 13%, Ploie[ti - 11%, Cluj - 7% and Bra[ov - 7%. In 2016, the deliveries of new spaces will exceed 300,000 sqm, which will translate into a 15% increase the inventory of industrial and logistic spaces in Romania. The bulk will be delivered in Bucharest – 63% (approximately 190,000 sqm), followed by Cluj - 8% (25,000 sqm), Bra[ov, Ploie[ti and Sibiu, with 5% (15,000 sqm each). “In 2016, Bucharest – the largest logistic and industrial market in Romania – is expected to see new deliveries of around 190,000 sqm. This will be the highest level reached in the past

seven years. At the end of Q4 2016, the inventory of industrial and logistic spaces in Bucharest will be 20% higher”, said Mihaela G`l`]anu, Head of Research at DTZ.

In 2015, new industrial and logistic developments are expected in Cluj, Sibiu, Bra[ov, Pite[ti and Râmnicu Vâlcea. The demand for industrial developments will follow an upward trend, being supported by a boost in demand and by the need of Retail, Logistics and Distribution companies to expand their operations.

Siemens expanded two of its Romanian factories of Sibiu and Buziaş

S

iemens continues to develop in Romania, now completing the extension works at two of its four factories locally operated by SIMEA Sibiu SRL. The two production facilities are located in Sibiu and in Buzia[, Timi[ county. “Romania is attractive for manufacturing companies given its well qualified workforce and competitive costs, as well as the proximity to Western markets. The expansion of production and the investments in R&D show the Siemens commitment for Romania, a role undertook 111 years ago”, declared George Costache, CEO of Siemens SRL. “14 years ago, the Siemens group opened its first Romanian factory. The recently completed investments are a new stage in the subsequent development of production capabilities, a recognition of the competitiveness and performance of our employees and of the excellent cooperation with Siemens Austria and Germania”, added Aurel B`loi, CEO of SIMEA Sibiu SRL. The factory Th. Mihaly street of Sibiu, opened in 2004, was relocated in July into a a new building from the “West Side Industrial Park" of Sibiu. The 7,800 sqm of industrial and office spaces take 110% more space than the previous area of the production facility. With this extension, the production process was updated to include an electrostatic spray painting workshop for the industrial and rail bodies already manufactured by the factory. The electric works at the factory have been carried out by Siemens SRL and are focused on efficiency. Thus, energy losses are minimized thanks to high-efficiency dry transformers,

and the lighting control is modular according to the area and availability of natural light, thus bringing significant energy saving benefits. The factory relocated to the “West Side Industrial Park" manufactures power cables for industrial electronic equipment and rolling stock, sheet metal parts for industrial and rail bodies, steel bodies for locomotives, subway trains and other rail components, and installs frames of industrial rectifiers. The production benefits of the new paint workshop cover the entire value chain from a single source, but also the expansion towards a new sector, i.e. wind energy, by the welding of the metallic frames of the stators of wind turbines, which is scheduled to begin later this year. The Siemens facility of Buzia[ was also subject to an expansion process, with the inauguration of a third production workshop at the beginning of August. The new workshop has around 1200 sqm and brings a 60% increase of the total area of the Buzia[ facility, as well as a production boost. Synchronous engines for industrial machinery will be built in the new space. The Buzia[ factory manufactures components and cooling systems for linear and Toqrue engines, with applications in direct control systems and asynchronous engines. The Buzia[ factory is the first facility opened by Siemens in Romania, as it was inaugurated in 2002, with an initial area of 400 sqm. Today, the total area of the factory amounts to 3,300 sqm. At the end of the tax year 2015, ending on 30 September 2015, the Siemens company had 1780 employees in Romania. Active in the sectors of electrification, automation and digitalization, Siemens owns four factories in Sibiu and Buzia[, together with four R&D centres in Bucharest, Bra[ov and Cluj-Napoca. The company opened its first Romanian office in 1905, under the name “Societatea Român` de Electricitate - Siemens Schuckert Societate Anonim`”. For more details, visit: www.siemens.ro. October 2016

Nearly half of the surveyed companies (44%) see an improvement in their prospects for 2016 as compared to last year, while 13% expect worsening conditions. The economic framework conditions showed some improvement, but the survey also reveals there are sectors which still require significant improvement. Particularly in the field of fighting corruption, Romania witnessed significant progress over the past two years, which are reflected in the companies’ answers. Moreover, some lowered taxes also led to better expectations tax-wise. As in most countries in the region, Romanian companies are also dissatisfied with the level of legal certainty, tax administration and the public administration in general, while the Romanian infrastructure has been an obstacle to investments for several years now. In regard to workforce availability, may companies complain about the lack of qualified staff. Despite many German-owned companies are still unhappy with certain economic aspects, most of them would still choose Romania as an investment venue. When asked whether they would still choose our country to invest, 91% of the survey participants answered “yes”. The survey was carried out between February 1 – March 1 2016. It was filled out by 105 majority German owned companies, of which 70% are part of a concern or group of companies. 83% of these companies are based in Germany, 7% in Austria, 10% in Romania. 

About Romanian industry

The market of plastics in Romania seen through the eyes of equipment suppliers D esiring to better understand the market of plastics in Romania and its evolution possibilities we asked a few questions to the representatives of the big equipment suppliers in the field. We thank thus Mrs. Elena CODECÀ, Executive Managing Director CHORUS ENGINEERING, Mr. Bogdan NESTOR, General Manager WITTMAN BATTENFELD and Mr. Radu MAREȘ, General Manager PLASTICS BAVARIA, for having accepted our invitation.

Interview questions

1

For how many years your company has been working on the Romanian market. How do you see the evolution of the plastics processing field in Romania during this period?

2

From your point of view (as representative of a / some important manufacturing companies of plastics processing machinery), how do you assess the interest of the Romanian companies in the new technologies available on the market?

Elena CODECÀ, Executive Managing Director Chorus Engineering

1

Chorus Engineering was established in 1997 and for nearly 20 years we have been working in Romania in consultancy, sales and after sales of plastics processing equipment. Throughout this period we could notice many changes and developments in the field of plastics processing. Many companies, leaders in the past, have disappeared and new companies have emerged, both international ones, which could find a favourable environment to relocate their activity in Romania or start a new production on their own or in partnership, as well local companies. During this period of time we could notice that Romania has become a country of reference for certain production segments, earning trust of partners and customers and this with particular regards to injection moulding of technical parts especially in the Automotive, Electric, Electronic field and now also in the Medical one.

2

Within the globalization phenomenon which encompasses all of us, a company’s technological development is mandatory in order to keep or even earn market shares. The Romanian companies have very well understood this and they are extremely careful and open to new technologies offering advantages in terms of production costs optimization, increase of quality of the manufactured products and improvement of their competitiveness.

3

It is difficult to answer this question because the market is continuously changing, it is difficult to have a word on this subject. Technology advances very fast due to communications and exchange of ideas in real time. Today’s necessity shall no longer be a necessity tomorrow. One product shall quickly replace another. Here is the point. Up to now Romanian companies have been identified as possible partners for production of items designed or invented outside Romania and very rarely Romanian companies are requested to cooperate in the design of a part. Design and engineering is very often in the hand of the foreign

14  English Issue October 2016

3

You are part of (represent) a big international company and have thus information on the global market evolution. Knowing also the Romanian companies, which do you think are the fields of activity in which they could develop and which here are not exploited to the full potential they have on the world / European market? If opportunities should exist, what do you believe Romanian companies should do to achieve the new objectives?

4

partner, who brings know-how and solutions. This should be maybe a field of activity: dare to become possible creators or designer of new product with Romanian brand.

4

Here we have entered a little in a hypothetical area, but what I know is that every real objective can be achieved through involvement, a lot of work, seriousness and total dedication. Objectives should be achieved one after another, with a lot of patience and confidence. This is valid for one single individual as well as for one entire company. I do not see Romanian companies in difficulties to achieve an objective. During my professional life in this country I have met professionals and highly prepared people willing to learn, to improve themselves and to achieve results. And even if there is always a lot to do, I think that nowadays we can already appreciate a nice Romanian industrial environment which is growing fast day by day.

Bogdan NESTOR, General Manager Wittmann Battenfeld Romania

1

We were established in 2009 so are in Romania market from 7 years. Romanian Plastic industry image in 2009 was totally different than today. It was clear in that time that anybody can do a cheap plastic part in Romania as long there were not too delicate or esthetic parts. Since than foreign customers start to ask much more to the Romanian plastic industry. So if in 2009 all customers had injection molding machines, today they are more interested in getting a better quality of their plastic parts so they are more focus to auxiliary equipment’s like robots, dryers, mold termoregulators. Anyway I can tell with BIG LETTERS: ALL COMPANIES ACTIVE IN PLASTIC INDUSTRY TODAY ARE WINNERS AND STRONG ONES!!! All of them have been able to get the resources to pass the crisis which was very bad in 2009!

2

Only few of our customers in Romania have courage to invest in latest development in plastic industry, and here I am referring to Cell Mold, 2,3 components injection molding machines, gas injection, water injection, inline thermography, powder injection molding, BF mold. The courage is needed to invest in something and not to have a benefit on it a long period. But there are in Romania few companies who has this courage, and usually are the top ones. But when they succeed into a project than they are almost the only ones into the market who can manufacture something like this, the ones will follow are only copies of the true leaders.

Radu MAREŞ, General Manager Plastics Bavaria

1

Plastics Bavaria along with its partners KraussMaffei, Motan Colortonic and Regloplas has been successfully active in Romania in the last 14 years. If in 2002 KraussMaffei machinery were almost inexistent in our country, today we can say that we dominate the segment of technical part, working along with the largest national and international companies. Ford, as well as Renault chose our equipment for heavy components injection, as well as dashboards, door panels and front/ rear spoilers, a trend which got perpetuated throughout the suppliers’ chain. That is why we say that the field of plastics has positively developed in Romania.

3

In some areas we do not have a market in order to expand. I see a lack in pharmaceutical area in Romania, in rest I believe we cover all area possible to cover in Romania. But I believe we are strong people and do not get sick, so there is no problem.

4

The most important is believe in ourselves that we are able to do it, because even you are fighting with an international corporation always you have your own weapons to fight with and also suppliers of equipment’s like us, has a huge experience worldwide and they can help you to transform smoothly your dream in a real success.

Brief description of Wittmann Battenfeld As a worldwide manufacturer, Wittmann Battenfeld offers a complete range of innovative equipment for plastic industry. With 37 direct subsidiary offices, the Wittmann Battenfeld is represented in all major plastics markets around the world. Business activities include the supply and the start-up of entire plastics processing systems, spare part support, and even upgrading of second-hand machinery. In addition, 30 regionally active agencies represent the Wittmann Battenfeld products in the smaller markets throughout the world. For more information on Wittmann Battenfeld products and services please visit our website at www.wittmann-group.com. the interest shall stay further high regarding the state of the art technologies.

3

There is certainly a lot of work to be done in Romania, in any of the fields. This makes the Romanian industry be even more interesting for us as equipment supplier and determine us to invest and offer state of the art technologies at reduced costs in order to facilitate the growth and competitiveness of our clients.

4

We are just launching within the fair in Düsseldorf, K 2016 a new series of electric injection moulding machines which set new standards in the plastics injection. I believe that the investment in such state of the art technologies and efficient equipment represent a real chance for the Romanian companies to secure a low production cost and enhance competitiveness on the international market.

2

Romanian companies have a big disadvantage due to the fact that Romania is internationally quoted as a lowcost production site, which puts a lot of pressure on the product sale price. The only solution that exists and has already been put into practice is the investment in state of the art technologies that allow efficiency and low costs. For instance, if in the jet extrusion field, the classical exchange of the pipe diameter with another one assumes losses of tons of plastic and the stoppage of the production line for several hours, through QuickSwitch technology from KraussMaffei, this change takes place while the production is still running without any material loss. Thus it was possible to have a competitive product price and production costs allowed a large margin of profit that would ensure the company’s subsequent investments. Like this example, we also offered in Romania technologies such as CoverForm, plastic and polyurethanes injection, extrusion and polyurethanes, technologies that lead to enhancing the competitiveness of Romanian companies. In this context, I am convinced that

Plastor Oradea,

100

years of experience, tradition and performance

PLASTOR SA is today one of the most important privately-owned producers of plastic ware in Romania. Experience in the field of plastics, gathered ever since 1914, and the high quality of plastic products allowed the development, expansion and enlarging of activity fields. Beginnings and evolution There are little companies that can take pride with a long history, and even less that have existed and developed continuously for 100 years. The Oradea-based Plastor, which specializes in the processing of plastic, is one of them. The company was established in Oradea by a trader in 1914, the same location in which it stands today, and first

16  English Issue October 2016

manufactured hairpins and combs of natural materials. The technologies and product range developed in the years to come, so that by the end of World War II, the factory employed 188 workers and produced, besides the initial products, cigarette cases, table tennis balls, shoehorns, sunglasses, etc. The follwing years first brought nationalization, then multiple consolidations with small local enterprises. In the ‘50s, the company was called the Bihor Plastics Industry and had in its portfolio toys, various domestic articles of plastic and brushes, paint brushes and mason’s brushes. These were continued, still in the sixth decade, by the manufacturing of moulds and dies, an activity which would develop significantly at a later time. The manufacturing of plastics skyrocketed in the next decade, which also brought investments in facilities and buildings. In the ‘70s, the company was named I.I.S. Viitorul Oradea, a name which would become widely known in the country.

The year 1989 found the factory with more than 20,000 employees and in the position of the largest toy producer in the country, in addition to brushes, brooms, cans, containers, sheets, single filaments, zippers, stickers, etc.

Developments After the privatization in 1994, the company which was already named Plastor SA began a large reorganization process, turning in the 11 company group of today, each company being focused on a certain market segment. The mother company, Plastor SA, is specialized in the processing of plastics by injection and extrusion-blowing, and on the design and execution of dies for the two technologies. Besides these, it carried out different types of processes, mainly the assembly of sub-assemblies and finished products, but also stencil printing, pad printing or hot printing. The continued concern for the increase of the company’s abilities and its technological level allowed access to mature markets and inclusion in the customer portfolio of resounding names. From Bosch to Mahle or Continental and from Flextronics and Alstom to Salomon and Atomic, all these companies buy automotive parts, electric and electronic devices parts or winter sports equipments from Plastor Oradea. The Oradea company is an example not solely by its age, but also by the courage with which it faced constant challenges in its long history. The radical change of the market segment, which took place several times, is just one of them. The leap from the production of simple or mechanic toys to parts for vehicles manufactured by Mercedes, Ford or Volkswagen was neither simple nor obstacle free. First, it involved an increase in the skills of the personnel, from junior operators to most qualified engineers, then the retooling of the company with state of the art technologies enabling it to compete with established Western European companies, and maybe most difficult of all, changing the mentalities of the employees and training them to comply with the high quality standards in the field. The manner in which Plastor understood to do business by showing respect for both customers and its own employees is part of its success. Among the company values declared by its management, the most important one is its people, which make everything possible. Growing the loyalty of employees, promotion to management positions of own employees who fully assimilated its culture, the provision of good working conditions and attractive salaries are constant matters of concern for the management and, maybe, some aspects that make the difference between the Bihor company and other similar companies.

Perspectives and policies What are the future plans of these ambitious Oradea people who stubbornly lived and developed in a quite hostile economic

environment, a globalized economy in which competition is increasingly fierce? The answer comes directly from the company’s general manager, engineer Ion Sere[:

As we declared in our company’s manifesto, we strongly believe in the endurance of this company as we believe in our people and their capacity to work and to mobilize, as shown in many difficult moments. We wish to keep developing our abilities, so that besides taking part in the technical optimization of our products together with our clients, to become able to provide in the future full product design services, to maintain complex processes for the development of subassemblies and products for all our fields: automotive, electronics, electro-technical. We believe that permanently investing in technology is a must in order to keep up with our competitors, who nowadays are not just traditional Romanian companies, but practically any company in the world with a similar activity. This is no easy task, because we are a Romanian privately owned company which competes with Western corporations that have much more consistent material resources. We will continue our participations to fairs and exhibitions both in the country (despite their small number) and abroad. We are traditional participants to Fakuma in Friedrichshafen, Euromold in Frankfurt and K in DÜsseldorf. We are staunch in our beliefs that despite the skyrocketing of the Internet or mobile phones, face to face meetings between people and an honest handshake between two business partners are the key to a successful cooperation. dr. ing. Ion Sereş, Plastor S.A. General Manager There are many reasons for which some companies endure, while others fall into oblivion. Plastor of Oradea found a way to exist and develop in its first one hundred years. We wish it to celebrate its second centennial with as many accomplishments! Eng. CETAL, a milestone in the

strategic development of laser technologies in Romania

Worldwide, the photonic technologies have constantly developed due to a versatile device that covers an extremely broad range of applications: the LASER. Since the invention of the first laser device in the 60th, due to the special properties of the coherent, monochromatic, unidirectional and high intensity light, the laser has become a universal tool used in almost all fields, from civil to aerospace and military applications. In the scientific research the laser was involved in most of the high-impact discoveries in both fundamental and applied research. Today, the laser emitting devices are spread from common and daily uses (barcode readers, DVD players, high-speed internet on fibre optic, laser displays and light shows) to industrial applications in automotive industry, aerospace, textiles, and many others. The laser equipment are more and more used in the technological steps as a tools that replace the traditional processing machines. The lasers are also used in applications requiring a high degree of precision and reproducibility, in non-destructive and highly accurate analyses, such as spectroscopic methods for laboratory analysis, interferometric methods for quality control of products, and telemetry in civil or military applications. Romania is the 4th nation in the world to build a laser device. Since 62’s, when the first Romanian heliumneon laser have been reported, various types of lasers and laser applications were developed at the site on M`gurele campus in the southern part of Bucharest. Before 1989, many laser devices manufactured in M`gurele equipped factories and hospitals in the country. After 1990, despite the economic situation, the "School of Lasers" initiated by Prof. I. I. Agârbiceanu created new generations of specialists in laser physics and engineering. In 2005-2008, through the National Research Program CEEX and with scientific contribution of researchers from

18  English Issue October 2016

the National Institute for Lasers, Plasma and Radiations Physics - INFLPR, the technological gap in the field of lasers between Romania and the rest of more technologized countries started to be reduced. At that time, a strategic plan for the development of high-power lasers and their applications have been conceived. This strategy was initiated in 2006 with the installation at INFLPR of a laser with ultra-short pulses and peak power of 3 GW, then continued with the installation of a laser with an output of over 10 TW, followed by installation in 2013 of a laser with peak power of 1 PW. This strategy will culminate with installation at ELI-NP of 2x10 PW laser, whose installation is planned for 2018. In parallel, applications of lasers have been developed in various fields: nanotechnology, nanomaterials, bio-photonics, telecommunications, health, automotive industry and others. After a long period of time in which this area has suffered stagnation due to the economic difficulties experienced by Romanian companies, the interest in photonic technologies is now booming. The scientific expertise of researchers led recently to the establishment of the Center for Advanced Laser Technologies – CETAL, that rivals the largest facilities of its kind in Europe and worldwide. CETAL is a research infrastructure unique in Romania and South-East Europe, built by the full financing of the Romanian Government. Here is

provided the framework necessary for carrying out scientific research and technological development in the field of highpower lasers, laser processing and photonics to the highest standards in the world, in a modern building provided with laboratories and technological spaces, advanced equipment, clean rooms, an underground bunker that provides shielding from ionizing radiation and electromagnetic pulses that may be produced during experiments with 1 PW laser, data center and control command room for experiments. The scientific and technologic activities are carried out in the following laboratories: n Laboratory for Hyper Intense Laser-Matter Interaction - CETAL-PW; n Laboratory for Material Laser Processing - LaMP; n Laboratory for Photonic Investigation - PhIL. The establishment of this research center, which includes a wide range of photonic technologies, is an important step in boosting the relaunch of the Romanian industry by development and implementation in the local companies of most of the modern and efficient technologies, the lasers based ones. CETAL have an important contribution also in the development of high-power lasers in Romania. Attracting at M`gurele an European infrastructure project of the size of ELI-NP was possible because of the fulfilment of a milestone in the strategic development plan of ultra-intense lasers, the laser

infrastructure CETAL-PW representing a significant advantage in human resource development for the future European ELINP needs. The other two laboratories from CETAL: LaMP and PhIL, are mainly dedicated to applied research and were designed precisely to promote the photonic technologies and to implement them in the industry. Companies and SMEs in Romania have access to the best laser equipment, here new technologies, more efficient and more environmentally friendly, can be developed and tested. Lasers for industrial processing like laser welding, laser cutting and laser cladding are available for testing various alloys and for developing the processing steps. Laser systems delivering ultra-short laser pulses allow extremely precise laser processing down to micrometer resolution. The 3D printing of microstructures in photopolymers with unprecedented spatial resolution and freedom of 3D geometries is possible using the 3D laser lithography systems from CETAL. The photonic investigation techniques using various type of high sensitive spectroscopic methods are available for testing qualitatively and quantitatively a broad range of materials in pharmaceutics, cosmetics and food for the quality measurements of the products, or for environmental pollution assessment. The optical fiber sensor developed by the researches from CETAL is a new technology well adapted for all kind of environments for remotely monitoring civil infrastructures or fabrication processes in factories. A laser vibrometry system is used for testing equipment or components in laboratory simulated vibrational conditions. And these are only a few of the capabilities of the CETAL facility. Increasingly the SMEs in Romania are growing their interest in laser technologies, more and more industrial laser systems are acquired, so obviously beneficial to the development of those companies, but one must take into account a sustainable development and safe operation of the laser equipment. There is a lack of proper training for workers in companies subjected to laser risks, insufficient information and law enforcement agencies on security and safety measures in the field of lasers, and deficiencies in the legislation governing the safe use of laser equipment. Thus, through the experience and qualifications of the certified personnel, the Center for Advanced Laser Technologies - CETAL is not just a center for development and dissemination of the photonic technologies in Romania, but is also the institution best placed to be actively involved in promoting the rules for safe use of lasers, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the national economy sectors that use the laser technologies. OPOC ENGINE DBV, a revolutionary invention S

ince 1993, DBV Research has been delivering unique technical solutions with a global approach of each and every project. Besides the fact that we are renowned for our research and innovation proposals in national auctions, we have successfully participated in various conventions abroad.

Just one example would be the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, where we gained notoriety by obtaining two gold medals and one silver in the 1998 edition. Locally, we are recognized by the Ministry of Research and Development through a title which we acquired in 1995. Our portfolio covers a wide range of industries, including but not limited to automotive, transportation, nautical, agriculture, construction energy recovery and natural resources exploitation.

OPOC ENGINE DBV

which increases the step between cylinders and the length of the crankshaft. The crankshaft becomes longitudinal and torsional flexible with negative repercussions over engine running

Our solutions a) connecting-rod position The connecting-rod (C) of inner piston (A) and the connecting-rod (D) of the outer piston (B), have the operating plane (c) and the operating plane (d) angle positioned against of a classical connecting-rod operating plane. The engine uses on one side an inner piston (A) and on the other side an outer piston with two active ends (B) which glides on same axis with inner piston (A). Piston with two active ends (B) has one end has the role of external piston (a) and the other one has the role of oval piston for the displacement compressor (b).

Technical solutions presented in this document are intellectual property of DBV Research and protected at OSIM Romania in file no. A00607/11.08.2014 and published in Official Bulletin of Industrial Property no. 4/2015 Romania, called “Opposed-piston engines”. The references from this description are made based on notaries and attached drawings. Kinematics and additional information you can find on our site: http://opoc-engine-dbv.com/.

Why OPOC Engine The concept of an OPOC engine has gained attention from researchers because:  It promises a specific power that is four times greater than an equivalent size engine. This results from the double frequency of power stroke.  The concept is also simple from a constructive point of view, by eliminating the cylinder heads and the entire distribution mechanism.

Current stage OPOC engine is well known and it has multiple versions. In the evolution of this engine, the most important step was made by Prof. Peter Hofbauer and his team at ECO MOTOR. He linked the connecting-rod of inner piston and connectingrod of outer piston with one crankshaft. The forked connecting rod is assembled to the crankshaft by means of two crankpins placed on the left and right of the crankpin corresponding to the inner piston.

Disadvantages Current solution makes the engine shaft more complex due to the presence of a third crankpin

b) All joints made of walls with spherical form Joints made of walls with spherical form (i) (j) (l) (m) receive the efforts on a main body. The main body is a wall with spherical form. The concave part of the body take the compression efforts and the convex part take the decompression efforts. b.1) Joint between piston and connecting rod

 the joint made of walls with spherical form with pocket(i) take the compression efforts from a disk board (p) with concave center. The disk board (p) is radial fixed to inner piston (A) with a safety ring of trapezoidal section (8). Decompression efforts is retrieved through pocket (r) fixed on disk board (p).  joint made of walls with spherical form with pocket(l) is similar with joint(i). Joint made of walls with spherical form with pocket(l)differs from joint(i) by: it has in addition another hole (1) in disk board(p) through which passes an inlet pipe for compressed air.

b.2) crankshaft and connecting-rod assembly  joint made of walls with spherical from with ring (j) take the compression efforts from a barrel part (u) with spherical exterior and cylindrical hole interior. The decompression efforts is received by a ring (v) fixed on barrel part(u).  the mother inner connecting-rod(G) is fixed beside barrel part(u) through the finger (15).  The connecting-rod (C) puts the effort in crankpin (2), the connecting-rod (D) puts the effort in crankpin (3), both in phase opposition and which are part of a group of crankpins (f ).  The group is fixed between two adjacent journal bearings (g) and they form the crankshaft (E).  Both connecting-rods(C) (D) have at the end joints made of walls with spherical form.  The connecting-rod (C) has a hollow body type (h) and at one end it has a joint made of walls with spherical form with pocket (j)  The connecting-rod (D) body is closed frame and composed of cross bar (4) and cross bar (5), linked with bars (6).  The joint made of walls with spherical form with two rings (m) is attached to cross bar (5) to the exterior of body

c) Overcharging circuit The overcharging circuit (F) is composed from a compressor which has oval piston for the displacement compressor (b) , where an escape valve is mounted (17) . It continues with a central pipe (18). Compressed air arrived in piston cooling chamber (11), passes through slide valve (w) which is formed between piston (a) and cylinder block (x), and then gets into combustion chamber.

Advantages of our solution:  None of mobile parts of the engine doesn’t need bolts assembly which results in better mounting time and lower costs.  Inclined functioning of connecting-rods allows simplification of the drive shaft. A crankpin is removed.  Connecting-rods positioning and the use of oval piston compressor results in lower the step between cylinders. So the engine will be shorter as length.  Using the piston with both active heads allows a better and simple handling of outer piston. As a result it’s obtained a mechanical compressor without own crankshaft, which is correlated in phase with the optimal transfer timing of compressed air in combustion chamber.  The overcharging circuit performs the following functions: forced cooling of the external piston and the heat from the cooling of external piston it is used to preheat the air going into combustion chamber.  The exhaust gases energy can be used to activate a turbine/electric generator producing electricity for external use.  All technical solutions simplify the construction of the engine and the assembly operation. Also the engine should perform better and it should have a better maintenance cycle.

Summary The OPOC-DBV concept opens the way to a new generation of OPOC engines. The concept is completely different from conventional systems, proposing a courageous arrangement of the connecting rods, tilted sideways. First of all, any errors related to execution as well as those occurring during operation no longer affect the operation of the engines. Its construction is extremely simple because it can be assembled without screws.  October 2016

Faster and more efficient

The All-electric injection molding machine wins the race S ki boots by Rossignol and Lange - known to all skiers. Toys of the brand Chicco by Artsana are a benchmark for parents with small children: big phone with funny beeps, colored rings and blocks. All these products so different one to the other have one thing in common: they are produced in the same plastics molding factory Omnia Plast in Bucharest, Romania.

The company is part of the Italian group Sunino and is a Newcomer on the market. On a production area of 9,170 square meters, since five years, are being produced plastic injected items. The manufacturing process includes also pad printing and assembling. Most products are exported, mainly to markets in Europe and USA. Omnia Plast has secured a stable position as a unit specialized in plastics processing. The parent corporation Sunino succeded to establish on the market in South East Europe.

In line with the program

Up to May 2014 just 20 hydraulic injection molding machine were in operation. Horizontal machines working with a clamping force between 400 and 4,000 kN and vertical ones with clamping force between 3,500 and 5,000 kN. But market is growing, thriving business and for the production manager Alexandru Grancea appeared the need to broaden his park of injection molding machines.

First we thought to invest in several hydraulic machines. But I found that all-electric machine promise much higher productivity, accuracy and efficiency. Thus we have oriented quickly to these ones. In this respect we accessed European funds within a project for increasing productivity and competitiveness. At the auction organized in the project after having analyzing the offers of those participating to the tender I found that all-electric machines IntElect of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH, Schwaig are better than those of the competition. Alexandru Grancea, Omnia Plast Production Director Currently, eight injection molding machines IntElect with clamping force between 1,000 and 2,800 kN are working in the production unit of Omnia Plast. The implementation of the contract, from design to commissioning was carried out through the representation Sumitomo (SHI) Demag in Romania, Chorus Engineering SRL. Considering technical assistance activities, Mr. Grancea has only words of praise: "The team Chorus Engineering has always been perfectly organized, had great ideas and was able to meet the short delivery time that I was asking."

The eight new injection molding machines process TPU, PP, ABS and polyamide. From these materials are manufactured toys, ski boots and components for baby strollers. Before commissioning, the production of all articles has been tested at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag in Germany to ensure the

customer with an optimal settings of the machines. With the Intellect 160-680, equipped with the function activeFlowBalance and activeLock, Omnia Plast manufacture ski boot heels of TPU with a four-cavity-mold. Thanks to the valve with function activeLock is guaranteed that from the first moment of melt injection phase cannot drain back into the sockets of the transporter melt. Sporting articles need high accuracy and consistency of the process, in order to meet tolerances and thus ensure the safety of the athlete. The function activeFlowBalance uses compressed melt expansion at the transition from injection pressure to the pressure further,

so partial cavity filling is made better thanks to a reduced counter pressure. Filling levels of the cavity mold compensate quickly without any extension of the cycle. Mr. Grancea praise these features: "We could reduce the manufacturing cycle of the heel of ski boots from 62 to 44 seconds, the cavities are filled evenly and have much less waste." thankful, also added: "this is no longer need of additional efforts to reduce production costs and energy. " Despite the higher acquisition costs of these all-electric injection molding machines versus the hydraulic alternative, the investment pays back also for Romania very rapidly. Higher production, scrap reduction, reduced energy consumption, excluding of almost any kind of machine downtime and simple maintenance lead together at reduced operating costs. Mr. Grancea is totally satisfied with his decision: "The machines are easy to operate, our personnel quickly understood the use of the control system and on my side, I'm excited about their accuracy."

Accuracy in the spotlight Chorus Engineering monitored the commissioning of the IntEllect machines and provided the

training. A process engineer from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has carried out the fine adjustments. Some final optimizations and additional training of the staff at machine site have filled the activity program of the first weeks of operation of these eight new "recruits." Meanwhile production entered at a normal pace and Mr. Grancea is already thinking to some new markets such as automotive and electronics. "We want to expand production and attract new customers in these areas. To this end and in the future I will opt for all-electric machines from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag because these industrial segments require high precision manufactured items. For me, the question of low energy consumption as well as a low number of rejects are decisive. These are important factors for success. " Sunino Group has been working for seven years with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. Eleven injection molding machines for packaging have been already operating since a long time in the Italian production facility if this international corporate. And now a successful partnership continues in Romania thanks to the sales agent Chorus Engineering, who brought the professional competence and commitment of the people of Schwaig in Romania. 

Strong partner Since 1997 specialist in plastics, Chorus Engineering srl has established headquarters in Bucharest, Romania. A family company offering turnkey solutions for numerous applications. Starting from design up to commissioning, customers can confidently rely on the competent services of experts from Chorus Engineering. However the commitment does not stop there: maintenance, supply and installation of spare parts, technical support or relocation of existing production lines are also part of the company's offer. Since 2003 Chorus Engineering is selling injection molding machine of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag, Germany. The all-electric machine increases the precision of the injection molding HARALD SAMBALE dr.ing.

I

n May 2013, the production of the Romanian plastics processors Plastor has been extended with an all-electric injection molding machine from Sumitomo (SHI ) Demag. With this machine are manufactured parts that meet very very high precision requirements.

Plastor SA is among the leading suppliers of plastics components in Romania for the electronics and automotive industry. In addition, Plastor manufacture finished products for sports item and gardening. Another important branch of the company is the design and manufacture of injection moulds. "Besides activities on the Romanian home market Plastor maintains close trade relations with companies in other EU countries such as Germany, France, Austria, the UK and the Netherlands," says Managing Director Dr. Eng. Plastor Ion Sere[. In the field of automotive, Plastor produces, for example headlamp housings front and rear and small parts of the interior trim, parts for the engine room and little components for closing and locking systems. In addition, the range is completed with blow molded plastic parts, eg. Tanks for windscreen wiper systems or ducts for ventilation and cooling systems. Plastor has a long experience in the production of components for home appliances. The product range includes control knobs, handles, housings and keypads. The production of these parts is made by using the procedure of injection gas. Components manufactured at Plastor can be decorated by screen printing, pad printing, hot stamping or by varnishing "Particularly challenging is the production of end products in the areas of sports equipment and garden machinery," explains Dr. Eng. Ion Sere[." These include ski boots for the company Salomon

or Atomic and lawn mower for the companies Brill or AL-KO. Here, in addition to product development, injection molding and decorating surfaces, plastics ensures the assembly, packaging and delivery of products." Plastor was established in 1914 as a manufacturer of hair pins and combs from natural materials. In the fifties and sixties of last century the processing of plastics has gained importance ever higher. In addition to injection molding, Plastor today has introduced also the process of extrusion or the blow-molding of plastic products. In recent years Plastor was restructured as group of companies consisting of eleven companies with specific areas of responsibility. The product portfolio ranges from brooms and brushes to household products, extruded yarns and technical moldings and recycling of plastics. The parent company of the group Plastor SA, employs about 750 people. In 1993 began the collaboration between Plastor and Salomon, the French manufacturer of

sporting goods . At that time, production capacities were relocated from France to Romania. Among other things, was put into operation at Plastor an injection molding machine manufactured by Demag, with a clamping force of 4200 kN. Due to the positive experiences with the use of this machine, Plastor decided the purchase of additional injection molding machines from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. In close collaboration with Chorus Engineering srl, the Romanian representative of Sumitomo SHI Demag, could found solutions for customer service and maintenance of this injection molding machine. of small insert parts from TPE, which are then further processed in larger injection molds to 2K or 3K parts. These are parts for ski boots made of translucent TPU. In this form parts soft and elastic parts of TPE are inserted, which must meet very high precision requirements. Production takes place automatically or semiautomatically on tools with two or four cavities. The cycle times range between 30 s and a maximum of 50 s. The injection molding machine is equipped with a built-in dust extraction and a gravimetric dosing unit which can dose up to four different components. of 4200 kN were purchased in 2003. Meanwhile Plastor has now ten machines from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag with clamping forces 1000-4200 kN. These hydraulic injection molding machines are used at Plastor for the production of component parts for ski boots. "Among other things, simultaneous movements of tool and core pullers are needed," Dr. Eng. Ion Sere[ says. "The machines can reliably meet these requirements." In addition Plastor benefited from the versatility of the machines. "The plasticizing units are suitable for a wide range of thermoplastic materials and produce a very high quality melt. Thus the processing of TPU material transparent or translucent colored liquid paint get exceptional results," notes Dr. Eng. Ion Sere[. He adds: "The machines are also characterized by a very high repeatability lever system with double knees. The Five-point double toggle system ensures very precise tool movements. In addition, the machine controls NC4 and NC5 are very userfriendly, since the parameters for fine-tuning are arranged in groups " In May 2013 Plastor has purchased an IntElect 100-430 of Sumitomo (SHI) Demag the first all-electric injection molding machine. "This investment was due to extremely strict quality requirements imposed on manufacturing complex parts made up of several components," explains Plastor CEO. "In addition, low power consumption has been an important argument in favor of machine IntEllect". The all-electric injection molding machine is used for the injection molding

The electric injection molding machine is used for both mold parts that have been produced on a hydraulic machine, as well as for a number of new products, which Plastor produces as part of a development project. "During the first few shots in the series production, we found that the machine movements of IntElect can be performed with high precision and high speeds," said Dr. Eng. Ion Sere[. "Another advantage is the low noise level of the machine. We also benefit from the possibilities

Full electric injection moulding machine convinced Plastor S.A. with it’s high accuracy, high speed and a reduced noise level.

of fine-tuning, for example, when opening and closing the mold, with the ejector or the venting of the mold." In the long run Plastor has the goal to expand the know-how in the business fields in which operates and in parallel to increase the complexity of the products. Thus, in the future will increase the share of injection molding machines equipped with hybrid as well as all-electric drive systems.  October 2016

Demo Metal 2016 Braşov,

A long awaited coming of Romanian industry under the spotlight

T

he period 25 – 28 May saw the fifth edition of Demo Metal in Brașov, the key event of the Romanian metal working industry, which managed yet once again to create positive synergies and aggregate the community of specialists from this Romanian sector. This year, Demo Metal was once again noticed for the high quality of participants – exhibitors and visitors alike.

With 95 exhibitors (25% more than the previous edition), on a venue of approximately 5000 sqm (30% more than in 2015) that was fully taken, Demo Metal 2016 attracted 2326 visitors – industry specialists and managers (25% more than in the previous edition). Moreover, the number of student visitors at Demo Metal 2016, 168, was higher than last year, coming from the Transylvania University of Bra[ov, the Pite[ti University, the Bucharest Military Technical Academy, the “Puskas Tivadar" High School in Sfântu Gheorghe and the Kronstadt German vocational school. The anniversary edition of Demo Metal proved yet again that actions aimed at the common good bring together competent, positive and dynamic people who help develop the

sector and find the time in their busy schedules to support events that add value to their professional and business communities. Thus, the 2016 edition was a success also thanks to the involvement of the event partners (ACAROM, AHK, CCIFER, OPIAR, DWK, THE ROMANIAN EMPLOYERS’ ORGANIZATION, AGIR), the hosts (PREH and ICCO), and companies from Germany (SCHAEFFLER, STABILUS and other „Made in Bra[ov” companies) and France (AIRBUS and TOTAL). Moreover, we have to particularly highlight the involvement of participants, with high presentation standards noticed by both the Demo Metal visitors and the foreign partners, who later stated they did not an event to such high standards – “it looks like German fairs, smaller of course, but what we’ve seen here is extraordinary”, “the quality of the Forum participants is extraordinary, I am glad I was a part of this” are remarks accompanied by calls for participation to foreign associations and companies, which give an European dimension for the future editions of this fair. Demo Metal 2016 attempted and managed to outline, albeit at a smaller scale, the Romanian industry with all its parts: dealers/distributors of equipment, Romanian-based manufacturers – whether Romanian or multinational, dual vocational training and tertiary education, and not least, the opportunities provided by the Romanian industry. The first-time attendance by large companies was a welcomed surprised – they displayed Romanian-manufactured parts which go into well-known motor vehicles from the world market (such as the hi-tech console manufactured by Preh for Porsche).

Against this background, the first day of the Demo Metal Forum proved the main feature of the event in terms of both its topic – OPPORTUNITY: THE ROMANIAN INDUSTRY, and the participation and extraordinary involvement of the guests: Constantin STROE – President of ACAROM, Sebastian METZ – AHK General Manager, Adriana RECORD – Managing Director of CCIFER, Mihai TONCEA – President of OPIAR, Alexandru BLEMOVICI – General Manager of Schaeffler România SRL, Franck HAETTEL –

Managing Director of Total Romania, Viorel CIOCOIU – Advisor of Costin BORC, the Minister of Economy, and Alexandru Gabriel RADU, representative of the Ministry of Education (we will return with further details in the next issues of our magazine). The “Western” outlook, the professionalism of the exhibiting reps and their availability to answer to any queries, the large number of equipment, the presence of Romanian companies and products – “we finally get to see what is being manufactured in Romania”, and others, were the key elements of this year’s edition of Demo Metal, as shown by the answers of the visitors to surveys by the organizers. These are actually the best arguments for the visitors coming to Demo Metal 2017. And if this year’s edition was attended by nearly 2500 visitors (including students) in not exactly best weather conditions (and in a venue outside the city centre), we can safely say the next year edition will be attended by those kept away by those scared away by the rain this year. And since the survey carried out shows that more than 37% of this year’s exhibitors will want to increase their exhibition space and 48% think will stick to the same area (with 9% unable to estimate their future exhibiting needs), looks like Demo Metal 2017 is set to significantly exceed this year’s edition. It only remains that Bra[ov treasure its participants and tap into its opportunities by making available an exhibition venue fit for the interests of the business environment. Please find below some statements of the participants at Demo Metal 2016 in Bra[ov.  October 2016

Testimonials of the participants at Demo Metal 2016 Braşov 

Demo Metal impressed with a presence at European standards at the 2016 edition. We can clearly notice a positive trend, and the event is more than certain the most important in this sector in Romania! We particularly noticed the initiative of having on the agenda presentation forums and debates of current topics of interest for the business community. I took part in one panel and I can say it proved an effective communication platform. Brașov is a suitable location for an event of this size, in terms of both geographic location and industrial tradition. It is worth investing a centre dedicated to events like this, which would ensure the consistent presence of such events. Alexandru BLEMOVICI, General Manager Schaeffler România Demo Metal 2016 was very well organized, exceeding the TIB in Bucharest. It was an event drawing multiple personalities and companies with professionally designed display stands. Of particular interest were the “Made in Braşov” and the “Kronstadt Vocational School” areas, which featured large production facilities based in Braşov. It also was a good opportunity to interact according to the B2B and B2C principles, culminating in the common evening event, which proved of good quality and provided an informal discussion setting. Dr. Cristian POPESCU, General Manager Stabilus România In my 18 years of experience in international fairs and 8 years as a Romanian representative of two major exhibition centres in Germany, i.e. Leipziger Messe and NürnbergMesse, I followed with interest the development of Romanian fairs. Fairs are a mirror of the sector/industry they represent, and DEMO METAL is today the mirror of the mechanical processing, machine building and installation industries in Romania. The upward trend in its 5 years of existence shows that technology supply and demand are on a new lease on life and permanently growing. I was very happy to see more Romanian technology, which raises hope in the future of Romanian industry, and I hope to see it soon at my fairs in Germany (such as Intec Leipzig and POWTECH Nürnberg). The new location, the organization, promotion and service quality are at Western level. We will support the development DEMO METAL and wish lots of success to the organizers! Peter WOLF, Representative of Leipziger Messe and NürnbergMesse in Romania The interest shown by Bosch Rexroth in the Romanian industrial market was the decisive factor behind our participation Demo Metal. The main goals were to identify new cooperation opportunities, targeting new markets, reinforcing relations with partners. Our company presented new products, the main exhibit being the Machine Simulator – a tool fitted with a real cutting unit which proved its functionality in real time. The interest of visitors for our products and the proactive attitude of organizers far exceeded our expectations. The Bosch Rexroth team considers that it reached its goals and considers participation to future editions. The Bosch Rexroth presence at Demo is a qualitative and quantitative variable with both immediate and long term economic benefits. The Bosch Rexroth team

It is yet another year when the Demo Metal proved its excellence in organization and professionalism. It provided us with an ideal setting to meet our current partners and customers, and the opportunity to meet prospective customers who were introduced to our latest novelties in the sector. During the four days of the event, we carried out live demonstrations on the equipment displayed and were happy to provide all our visitors with information. Thank you, Tehnic Media, for making this meeting possible and we wait to see the surprises of the next edition. Mihaela COTÎRGAȘANU, General Manager KNUTH SRL For us, Demo Metal 2016 reconfirmed the interest and need for such events in areas with concentrations of metal processing companies (and the like), and Brasov only reinforces the impression from last year, when the choice for this location was made. The active discussions with partners and the new contacts with other would-be partners, found or re-found thanks to Demo Metal, supported our decision to join the event, while the discussions with partners opened up additional opportunities for future business. We also thank for the conditions on-site and for the support from organizers, and we hope in future events with at least the same level of quality. Daniel GAVRIȘ, Managing Director AMARI Romania

I can say that our goal, which was to better promote our local presence in Romania and the entire Fanuc portfolio of products, was reached by our participation at Demo Metal 2016. It was our second participation at Demo Metal and the fact that we remained true to ourselves says a lot about the relation between our companies, one that is based on professionalism and mutual respect. Fanuc took this opportunity to exhibit some of its flagship products, such as the latest generation of digital controls, a cell powered by a Fanuc robot and the CNC Fanuc Robodrill vertical centre. We are definitely looking forward to our next participation in Demo Metal 2017. Lucian MARTIN, Sales Engineer FANUC HUNGARY KFT

This was the first participation for Trafil Czech, a member of the Lucefin Group, one of the largest producers of coldrolled bars, and although we were sceptical at first due to the different focus of the fair, the results were good, and we reached 80% of our objectives. The success is due to the professionalism of organizers, the exhibitors focused on the theme of the fair, and the clearly knowledgeable visitors. Thank you and success to you all! Marius ALECU, Business Development Manager Trafil Czech

Being our first edition of Demo Metal, we were pleasantly surprised by the large number of specialized visitors and the efforts of the organizers. The discussions held were more than interesting, the vacuum lifting tool for SCHMALZ sheet metal that we displayed was tested by many people, who acknowledged its ease of use (that tool can lift sheet metal plates of up to 300 kg, or up to 1 ton with another similar device). Sebastian CRAVCENCO, Manager CRAVCITECH

The anniversary edition of Demo Metal was also the most successful so far. The technology displayed was state of the art, and the visitors consisted in knowledgeable professionals. The organization was perfect and allowed the participants to focus on their business. It was an honour and a responsibility for Digital Twin to be invited to coordinate the “Smart Manufacturing” conference, a recognition of the team's skills and efforts to tap into the potential of Romanian companies by means of digitalization. For more than 45 years, we deliver our clients the technical components made of plastic. In consequence, in the last few years, I’ve made a shift from production by injection of components to the system. Thus, the basis is no longer just sit high value technical component, but rather, a combination of these products through plugging and installation of cables and electrical and mechanical components. The above-average growth is our highly motivated employees, who enjoy continuing professional training. For more than a decade, the second generation, will further enjoy the same quality. The premise of our success are quality, flexibility and remain confident. You trusted and therefore further from the “plastics in the best form”. As an international supplier of electro-industrial and automotive, we smiled to the idea to set up a factory in a country with low prices. In 2003, we opened in Năsăud (Jud. Bistriţa) a company identical in proportion of 100%. A short-term plan has helped us to be able to start injecting the product after only one year after I started with installation and storage of printed parts with buffer, followed by the construction of a machine shop. At that time I already have the ability to service the resulting shapes by injection. Meanwhile, countless clients around the country and abroad are supplied by our company identical in Năsăud. Due to the existence of partners nearby, from which we supply is done with electrical cables and electronic components, I was able to build shareholder value that we have in front of customers. The advantages offered by a country with cheap labor force, see interesting effects on the prices in the following areas: Manual/activities that require time, without increasing the batch, injecting the components to be mounted.

China (Xiangshan) - Romania

Investment Forum T

he Ministry of Economy, Trading and Business Environment Relationships through InvestRomania, a component of the Trading and Investment Promotion Department co-organized in Bucharest the event “China (Xiangshan) – Romania Investment Forum”, dedicated to promoting the challenging advantages of Romania and of the country offer before the investors and authorities of Xiangshan Province (China).

The event took place on the occasion of the official visit of Shi Jianding, Vice-President of the Xiangshan Province Government, accompanied by high officials and by a significant number of Chinese companies. The Forum had as main objective attracting investment projects from Xiangshan region, by presenting before the Chinese business community the country offer of Romania and of the sectors with high investment potential. Also, the event created the necessary premises to establish some direct contacts between local and Chinese companies, which is expected to lead to setting up of some medium and long term partnerships. The companies present at this forum had as fields of interest the textile industry, plastics, auto components and IT hardware. Given this forum, a memorandum was signed in order to start up an investment project with a value of 30 million USD between Ningbo HuaXiang Electronic Co. Ltd., China (NBHX) and Hib Rolem Trim, Romania, a German-Romanian company working in the field of auto components. The project assumes the building and equipping of a new production hall with a surface of 15,000 sq. m and the creation of 265 new jobs. The project shall start up in quarter I of 2017 and shall be finalized in quarter II of 2019. Within the new investment there shall be manufactured spare parts and accessories (ornaments) for the auto industry, representing ornamental products for vehicle interiors, such as: dashboard ornaments, central consoles and door ornaments for vehicle manufacturer Daimler (Mercedes), classes A and B. The products shall be found on the vehicles sold in Europe. To be mentioned that one year ago, a letter of intent was signed between the two parties in order

to give course to investments, within the event “China (Ningbo) – Romania Investment Forum”. The investment with a value of approximately 10 mil. EURO was already performed, respectively the project was initiated in July 2015 and is forecasted to be finalized in December 2016. It’s about the transfer of a production line in Romania (interior ornaments for manufacturer BMW), for which a new production area with a surface of 10,000 sq. m was contracted and approximately 200 new jobs were created. “The Romanian-Chinese Forum today continues the series of bilateral events at governmental level which aim at intensifying trading and economic exchange between the two countries. China is Romania’s main trading partner from the Asian zone from the commercial exchange point of view. We enjoy the presence of an important Chinese delegation and of a high number of Romanian companies, which stands as proof to an enormous potential of economic cooperation between Romanian companies and companies from this region in China. Romania is a hub in the IT and auto / auto components industry, fields of interest for the Chinese investors present at this event, and represent a plus to qualified labour and the entry point on the European market. My conviction is that following this event, other business partnerships shall be concluded, which brings me real joy because the investors already present in our country, that still keep choosing us for opening new production facilities represent, by the power of example, the best means of promoting Romania”, said Manuel Costescu, State Secretary for Trading and Investment Promotion. 
