MINT College was founded seven years ago with the goal of creating an environment that allows the students to grow into world-ready professionals. Through the years, we have developed individuals who embody the values that we fostered within the colorful halls of our humble institution: Creativity, Diversity and Community. In a sense, we jolted the educational community with our progressive approach to instruction. We have done this by breaking through the boundaries of antiquated and rigid educational norms with the hope of developing a new teaching philosophy that will enhance every student’s learning experience. It is this very teaching philosophy that honed you into the person you are today. Now, you join the list of our alumni as Freshly MINTed graduates. As you leave, we have two favors to ask of you. First, we join you to enter the world that awaits with the values that MINT has impressed upon you – the Creativity to fashion innovations that will drive you and your community to a better direction, the ability

to embrace the Diversity of worldviews from people from all walks of life, and the capacity to appreciate that your worth as an individual is greater when shared with a Community. Second and most importantly, we exhort you to go forth and disrupt the world in true MINT fashion. Break boundaries, create new things, and be the proverbial pebble that creates ripples that turn into waves. Your graduation is also a day to pay tribute to the people who have brought you where you are today—your professors. They have unfailingly used their vast knowledge, and skills to inculcate MINT’s philosophies into you. Our diverse and multitalented faculty with varying worldviews have accommodated the myriad demands of the environment that you are about to enter. For everything that they have taught you, you also have them to thank and congratulate for finishing the year with you. Congratulations Class of 2017! Make us proud!

It’s always bittersweet to bid farewell to another batch of MINT students, but we can always take solace in knowing you are prepared to take on any challenge that comes your way. How do we know this? You have grown up right in front of our eyes into impressive, talented and empathetic individuals ready to contribute to the world. Our beloved faculty bring a wealth of experience from their respected industries and have dedicated themselves to molding you into who you are today. Therefore by developing you as critical thinkers who can also produce tangible results, we expect that you will have a positive impact and touch the lives around you. This you’ve already proven with the resume of professional work you’ve built up while still in school. As newly branded ambassadors of MINT, we are confident you will carry on the legacy of the school. Farewell is not goodbye so don’t forget to drop by any time you’re in the neighborhood. Take care and, oh yeah, Congratulations!

I would like to share with you this message taken from a management expert, Kenneth Blanchard, author of “The One Minute Manager”. He said, “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.” I chose this specifically to underscore the importance of leadership in the fields you have chosen. This message reveals a chain of related values like cooperation, humility, and synergy. This is how you should look at your career direction from this moment on. Always strive for excellence, and be the leader who draws people together toward a common goal and develop genuine concern for your fellowmen. MINT has been guiding you to make a difference and we wish to see you all again someday with successful stories to share. Congratulations graduates of Batch 2017! Best wishes for your continuing success!

As the years you spent learning at MINT comes to a close, we all look forward to the new beginnings that await you. You are now stepping into the real world as you embark on your chosen careers. May all the lessons and skills honed in our classrooms allow you to succeed in all that you do. May all the friendships that you have fostered throughout your college life continue to deepen so you never forget the spirit of collaboration and teamwork. And most essentially, may you always be inspired to keep learning and cultivating your inherent creativity and passions — so that you may always do well not only for your own benefit but even more so for the prosperity of the bigger community and our country. On behalf of your other teachers and the entire MINT family, congratulations and go seize those new beginnings!

Some Filipinos know him as a founding member of The New Minstrels, one of the country’s well-known vocal groups. Others remember him for 70’s hits such as Gulong ng Palad and Nothing I Want More. At the age of 70, Eugene Villaluz was already a legend in the Philippine music industry, but MINT students will always remember him as the inspiring “Sir Eugene”—the man who guided his students to the realization of their dreams. In 2010, Eugene joined the pioneers of Meridian International (MINT) College, and created the first-ever Music Business Management (MBM) program in the Philippines. Hendrik Kiamzon, Executive Vice President of MINT, recalls his efforts to create a music business program for the aspiring Filipino music professional. “You could see that he was doing it out of his love for the industry. He wanted a reputable music business program for students here in the Philippines, so he made it happen – at MINT.” Fast forward to this day, the humble pursuit of Eugene to create MBM for aspiring musicians has provided training grounds for artists like Clara Benin, Cheenee Gonzalez, Asch, Mikoy Morales, One Click Straight, and Issa Rodriguez, among others. “We saw how much he cared for his students-sharing anecdotes about how he inspired them to pursue their passion in the music business.” shared Hendrik. As for 3rd year MBM student, Cheenee Gonzalez, Eugene’s challenge of producing Beatles Night resulted into an epiphany for her, “I came to MINT only wanting to learn about the business of music. I was shocked when he asked me to direct the event. I even asked him if he was sure, since there are C L A S S

others who I thought could do it better than me.” To this day, she remembers Eugene’s response, “It's not just about talent. You have to work hard and do what you love.” More than a teacher, Eugene was an inspiration. In her tribute speech, MBM graduate, Issa Rodriguez, shared a short conversation with Eugene that motivated her throughout college, “We talked about my dad, who played along The New Minstrels in the 70’s. Sir Eugene asked if he was still playing the keys. I told him that my dad wasn’t playing as much. He said, ‘Naku! Sabihan mo ‘yang daddy mo, sabihan mo don’t give up on his music and never stop pursuing his passion!’” Although directed to her dad, she took Eugene’s words to heart throughout her stay at MINT, “He encouraged me so much. He witnessed the birth of his students’ dreams, and made sure to guide us into turning them into realities.” Through heading the MBM program, Eugene became part of his students’ journeys, “Sir Eugene was a huge part of my career. I’m a production manager, and a singer-songwriter who just released her EP in her 3 rd year of college. I never imagined I could do it, but Sir Eugene believed in me,” Cheenee shared. With over thirty LP’s/EP’s produced and launched over the last seven years as evidence, Eugene’s program has realized his original vision—to create a new generation of music professionals and artists. But more than that, every one of his students graduated or will graduate from MINT with fond stories of their nurturing music mentor. Through the program that he created, and the guiding voice that Eugene has left for everyone, he will always be remembered as the inspiring Sir Eugene. 2 0 1 7

To our President, Bal Endriga; Executive Vice President, Hendrik Kiamzon; Vice President for Academic Affairs, Joel Arevalo; Vice President for Content Development, Jonathan Tinga; to our Program Head and the reason Music Business Management was born, the late Eugene Villaluz; to the distinguished faculty and board of Meridian International College; to our beloved family members, friends and special guests; and of course, to my amazing, fellow graduates, the Class of 2017; it is an honor to be standing before you today. Before anything else, I would like to acknowledge and honor my parents; for your unwavering love, trust and support for your selfless sacrifices and firm discipline for tirelessly waking up in the middle of the night to answer my calls and open the gate and for driving me to early call times and home from late egresses despite the fact that I own a license, thank you. Needless to say, I wouldn’t be here without you and you are every bit as responsible for these awards if not more. I have so many more things I want to thank you for, but this is as far as I can go without crying and I won’t be able to make it to the end of my speech.

— that is the best way to describe what I felt a little over four years ago with my confidence just as big as my ego. Looking back, four years seems like both a lifetime and a yesterday. My first day at MINT was the first time since emerging from a private, all girls Catholic school that I have ever seen men with tattoos, or beards, or hair longer than mine. The first time I have ever witnessed people start jamming sessions in the hallways. The first time I was ever smiled at by faculty members. The first time I have ever seen bean bags in classrooms. The first time I have ever confused students with professors (and vice versa). It was also the first time in a long time my excitement had outweighed my fears — as we know first times usually go. But for a school that’s only been around for five years, firsts are a norm. That’s probably why my last day at MINT was honestly unremarkable Because we all know that we’ll never have a last day at MINT whether we want to or not, It’s hard not to find the need to go back.

— that’s the best way to describe how I feel right now about all these remarkable people that I’ve been blessed to go through this journey with. We all have so many stories to tell and experiences to share all you have to do is ask us. Ask us what resilience means and we’ll tell you how we stayed in our orgs, how we made it to our gigs, how we passed our portfolios, while having five finals to study for. Ask us what persistence means and we’ll tell you how many cups of coffee, how many pinches, slaps, and bites, how many alarms we set just to make sure we made it through the night — or nights — so that we could submit our requirements. Ask us what hard work means and we’ll give you our hard drives. We’ll show you every folder upon folder of every pitch, jingle, video, presentation, short film, commercial, song and reaction paper that we’ve had to make from scratch with our bare and tired hands along with our dying laptops and iPads. Ask us about patience and we’ll tell you about the three hours we took to travel to school, or dorms or the five hours it took to travel back home in tight trains, busy buses, jam-packed jeeps, cramped cars or overpriced Ubers or on our own bare and tired feet. But ask us about sacrifice and we’ll tell you about our parents, our siblings, our cousins, titos, titas, lolos, lolas our third cousins twice removed. They say it takes a village to raise a child and it took us a community to bring us to where we are now

Ask us about humility and we’ll tell you about how many times we’ve gotten paid in OJT hours or exposure, but did the work damn well anyway. But ask us about bravery and we’ll tell you about how we submitted that resume or gave that calling card and that life changing moment we learned that we deserved to be paid for something we made. Ask us about strategic life skills and we’ll tell you the cheapest place to eat in Venice Piazza the difference between an HDMI and a VGA cable or which spot at MINT has the best wifi connection. But ask us what perseverance means and we’ll tell you the story of how we made it here with sashes and pins intact even if they said wewouldn’t be able to walk. Ask us what revolution means and we’ll tell you about our journeys the past four, or five or six years. Ask us and we’ll tell you how we proved that a millennial can learn from lectures and quizzes just as much as field work and projects just as much as being in small rooms filled with people with big hearts and even bigger dreams. Ask us and we’ll tell you about how we fought to prove to the world that you don’t need a world renowned college or big universities to make a name for yourself; that those things don’t equal a person’s worth or skill or talent or potential; that in fact, in never did. Astonished, surprised, shocked, dumbfounded and undeserving — those are the best ways to describe how I feel about being here right now. I am sorry those words do not begin with ‘R’, but I am humbled to say the very least. Ask me about trust, or ambition, or effrontery. To be honest, I’m not sure what the last word means, but that’s what came up when I Googled "kapal na mukha." Ask me about "kapal na mukha" and I’ll tell you how I used to pray that I would graduate with honors andyes, maybe even give the graduation speech. And then ask me about change and I’ll tell you about how my prayers quickly shifted to: "Lord, just give me the heart to accept Your will" after seeing my grades sem after sem after sem.

C L A S S

But ask me about grace and I’ll tell you the story of how He answered prayers and I made it up here in front of you anyway. Ask me and I’ll tell you how my heart was pounding when Sir Joel gave me the call to tell me the news and how bad I cried — on loudspeaker in front of Sir Hendrik, the admin and the amazing prod team. Ask me how I got through the past four years and I will answer: faith, hope, trust, love and Coffee Bean. Ask me what my secret was and I will tell yougood friends and a great God, but the latter is no secret. Ask me about Him and I’ll have too many stories to tell you I won’t know where to start. My journey at MINT starts on answered prayers and ends with a miracle. And if there’s anything MINT has taught me, it’s that the world is small and that no matter how hard we cry over the prospect of saying goodbye, we’ll always end up seeing each other, one way or another out there in the real world or in the carpeted hallways and airconditioned rooms of the second floor of the place that for the past years we’ve had the privilege to call home. So thank you, MINT College, and to my amazing fellow graduates. I look forward to seeing each of you in the real world.

Today marks the beginning of your venture into the real world. I have nothing but good wishes for you as you exit the halls of MINT College. We have provided you with the tools to become the next generation of great storytellers, so do not be afraid to dabble into the awe-inspiring world of filmmaking. As you fulfill your dreams of being a filmmaker, remember to create things that will be an inspiration to others. But more than that, I wish that you do this while enjoying the experience of becoming what you aspired to be. Congratulations, Batch of 2017!

MABUHAY and Congratulations, MINT Graduates 2017! We take pride in your own special season of New Beginnings. As members of your MINT family, we share your excitement as you take your initial steps outside the MINT Campus – away from years of its safe and nurturing embrace to finally immerse yourselves in the real-life challenges of the forbidding roadways of the “Outside World.” Like your surrogate parents, we now watch the beginning of your journey as young, hopeful professionals; all the time reminding ourselves that we had, indeed, continuously and rigorously endeavored to empower you with superlative knowledge and skills; persistently honed your talents to make you stand out in a highly competitive field; and, through the decidedly collaborative and multidisciplinary approach of the Theater Arts (TA) program at MINT College, immersed you with hands-on experience with a faculty of celebrated experts in the performing arts , along with guest lecturers with global theatrical experience. Art is a product of its time; and your time to make your mark has come. The curtain is going up soon; we can hardly wait to watch your first bow as a professional in the dramatic arts.

I am one with the MINT College community in congratulating the graduates of 2017. During the last four years you have worked hard with the help of your professors to become capable professionals in your chosen field. And in those years of formation, MINT has also encouraged you to be yourself: often times unique, often times different, but most of the time YOU. And as you prepare to face the challenges in the world, I am confident that you will excel, simply because your stay in MINT did not actually change you: you just became a better YOU. As you walk out of the doors of this institution, remember to always be curious and never stop learning. Be bold. Be brave. Don’t lose sight of who you are, and keep that youthful exuberance and childlike curiosity that also inspires us to keep the child within us too. Congratulations and God Bless You! 7 4

It has never been a grander time to be a student of technology. Every aspect of life in every endeavor has been permeated by the enabling capability of technology. What used to be the domain of "techies" is wielded in the hand of every person of interest. IT and CS graduates are integral to making this happen for the non-tech. No longer do they work in tech for tech's sake, but they are now integral to every type of business pursuit. They have ready access to the widest array of tools both hardware, software, and virtual with arduino boards for building IOT, with scripting libraries and with cloud computing. All of this make for a great jump off point to do great things. All it takes now is a grand ambition. Forge ahead graduates of CS/IT.

Verse 1: You know sometimes I don't know what to do When I can't think of something new Am I frustrated? Or am I just bored? I try so hard to see what lies ahead But all I ever do is just lie in bed Am I lazy? Or just afraid to try? I can't say how I feel Unless I try to be tough But when I am it's never enough So I just have to Chorus: Go, dry up my tears and pack up my fears I'm taking a risk to tonight I'll just sing along, maybe write a new song Until I can get it right Won't try to impress, honestly I'm a mess I just wanna let you know I'm trying my best, i'm taking the test of life Why should I fear? Maybe it's all in my mind I'll be fine Verse 2: I know it's hard to be myself again I feel like i've been stuck in a den It ain't easy, but it's worth a try I can't say how I feel But I try to be tough And even if it's never enough I just have to
