10-Day Mental Healthcare Course The Body, Mind and Life Department of Men-TseeKhang (Sowa-Rigpa) organized a 10-Day Course on Mental Health Care from 11-21 June 2019. The theme of the course: “Mental Hygiene� was discussed from the tri-fold perspectives of Buddhist Psychology, Tibetan Medicine and Tibetan Astro-Science. Each day consisted of a lecture, question & answer and practice sessions.
The course was attended by a total of 9 participants from England, USA, Ukraine, and Singapore. Two Tibetans also attended this year. An educational tour was arranged for the participants to visit Men-Tsee-Khang Museum, Pharmacy Unit and Quality Control Department. Ladakh Men-Tsee-Khang Culture Centre, Ladakh gave short courses to five participants from Italy and India on 21 June and to three Spanish participants on 10 July 2019. Dr. Thinlay Namgyal, Resident Doctor of Ladakh MenTsee-Khang Culture Centre gave an introduction on Tibetan medicine and activities of Men-Tsee-Khang. After the session, the participants were taken for a guided tour

of the museum and the library. They also received health consultation from the doctor in accordance with the traditional Tibetan system of health care. Observation of Practical Anatomy and Pathology Museum A 4-day workshop on the observation of the Practical Anatomy and Pathology Museum at the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda was held from 9-12 July 2019. This was organized primarily for second year medical students of Men-TseeKhang College. Two doctors from the Research and Development Department of Men-Tsee-Khang - Dr. Tenzin Lhundup and Dr. Sonam Wangmo, also took part in the programme. Under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Suman Yadav, Head of the Anatomy Department, six of her dedicated faculty members conducted the practical Anatomy workshop covering the complete cadaveric regional anatomy sessions, radiology, embryology, skeleton and a guided tour to the anatomy museum. The participants also got an opportunity to observe the rich collection of diseased organs displayed in the museum of the Pathology Department. Men-Tsee-Khang (Sowa-Rigpa) would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda and its faculties. Emory Tibet Medical Science Programme The 7th Emory Tibet Medical Science programme (ETMS) was held successfully at Men-Tsee-Khang (Sowa-Rigpa) College from 24 June to 5 July 2019. As usual, this programme included two parts: a two-week Bio-Medical Science education programme for Men-Tsee-Khang students taught by the Emory professors and a five-day Tibetan Medicine Study programme for Emory medical students conducted by Men-Tsee-Khang faculty.

A team of four experts from the Emory School of Medicine gave lectures on the chosen topics Pharmacology and Infectious diseases during the first five-day session (24-28 June), and Neurology and Psychiatry during the second session (1-5 July 2019). Over ninety medical and Astro-Science students participated actively in the workshop. The sessions of the Emory Professors were translated into Tibetan by Mrs. Tenzin Paldon, science translator at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives, and Dr. Namdol Lhamo, college lecturer. From 24-28 June 2019, a group of eight Emory students from the fourth batch participated in the Tibetan Medicine Study Programme at Men-Tsee-Khang College. Apart from lectures on Tibetan Medicine and Tibetan Astro-Science, the students had a session of clinical observation at the Men-Tsee-Khang outpatient Clinics, and an educational tour to the pharmacy unit and the museum.

MEDICAL CAMP Jangthang The 2nd Jangthang mobile camp took place from 3 to 14 June 2019. Dr. Dekyi Dolma, Chief Resident Doctor of the Choglamsar branch clinic, along with support staff Ms. Tenzin Dolker and Mr. Tenzin Tharlam visited Goyul, Kagshung, Hanley, Rongo, Nyoma, Samedh, Churmur, Sumdho and Magyu of Jangthang areas. During the 12 days medical camp, the doctor gave health consultations to 470 patients and advised on healthy diet and lifestyle. External therapy services were rendered to needy patients as well. The team also provided health care services at Vikas Army Kyare camp while returning back from Jangthang medical camp. Charity amounting to Rs. 233,912.55 was dispensed during the tour. 2 Vikas Army Camp, Ladakh Dr. Thinley Namgyal, Resident Doctor of Men-Tsee-Khang Culture Centre, Ladakh and Mr. Karma Tsering organized a medical camp on 4 July 2019 at the Army Library hall. The doctor gave consultations to 30 Army personnel and prescribed ten days of medication along with diet and lifestyle advice. As requested by the army officers, a medical camp will be held after every fortnight at 2 Vikas Army Camp.

Itanagar A free medical camp was organized on the auspicious occasion of the 84th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on 6 July 2019 at the Men-TseeKhang Branch Clinic in Itanagar. The medical camp was organized by the Itanagar Buddhist Culture Society (IBCS) in collaboration with Men-Tsee-Khang. The Honourable
June-July 2019 Chief Minister, Mr. Pema Khandu and MLA Mr. Tashi Tsering, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh paid visits.
Department with support staff Mr. Dorjee Tsering provided the traditional Tibetan health care service to the group from 28 May to 6 July 2019. A total charity Rs. 24,987.77 was provided during the month-long journey.

Zanskar A team led by Dr. Thinlay Namgyal, Resident Doctor of Men-Tsee-Khang Culture Centre in Ladakh and three support staff conducted a medical camp in Zanskar areas from 13-19 July 2019. The team covered Parkachik village, Rangdum village, Zanskar Sorig Nyamshib Hospital, Zanglha village, Raru village, and Tashi Thongstsel village. The doctor gave health consultation to 296 patients and charity amounting Rs. 3,160.47 was dispensed. Men-Tsee-Khang would like to thank Ex-Tibetan School Student Alumni of Zanskar and Sorig Nyamshib Hospital for their support during the medical tour. Dharamsala A 2-day medical camp was held on 6 and 7 June 2019 at the courtyard of Tsuglagkhang, Dharamsala. The team consisted of three doctors, one Tibetan Astro-Science Practitioner (TASP), and six support staff. The doctor and TASP provided 217 health consultation, 8 Kamkhab (acupuncture) treatment and 14 oral-astro consultations. Charity amounting to Rs. 21,317.37 were dispensed to poor and needy patients. Pad Yatra The fourth Pad Yatra, peace march by 96 Thailand monks, nuns and laymen from Dharamsala to Ladakh concluded successfully at Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) Leh. Football Championship on 17 June 2019 at Police ground, Dharamsala. Mr. Tashi Tsering Phuri, Director of MenTsee-Khang (Sowa-Rigpa) was the guest of honour at the tournament. The award was felicitated by Sh. Mast Ram Bhardwaj, Addl. District Magistrate, Kangra.

HEALTHY BODY HEALTHY MIND: CELEBRATING 103 YEARS OF MEN-TSEE-KHANG’S PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES Our Centenary outreach tours to USA East Coast/ Canada, Europe, USA West Coast and South America conducted between April 2016 and March 2019 had been a great success due to the efforts of various support groups. Above all, the encouragements we received and the experiences we gained, contributed to our initiating more world tours. Our subsequent tours to various places had also been a great success. We plan to conduct more outreach tours (health consultation, oral-astro consultation, lectures/ workshops on Tibetan Medicine & Tibetan AstroScience, exhibition, sale of health products) every year. To mark Healthy body Healthy mind: celebrating 103 years of Men-Tsee-Khang’s Public health services, outreach tours will be conducted in metropolitan cities In India namely: Shimla (7 and 8 May 2019), Bengaluru (18-20 October 2019), Mysore (22-24 October 2019), Tawang (29 October-3 November 2019), Jaigaon (8-10 November 2019), Salugara (12-14 November 2019), Kolkata (22-24 November 2019), Mumbai (16-21 November 2019), Jaipur (22-24 November 2019), New Delhi (29 November -2 December 2019), Ahmedabad (20-22 December 2019), Secunderabad (28-30 December 2019), Bhubaneshwar (10-12 January 2020) and Chennai (10-12 January 2020). The outreach tour will offer health and oral-astro consultations, lectures and display of exhibition on Tibetan Medicine and Tibetan Astro-Science.
