OUTREACH TOUR Europe The outreach tour to Europe was conducted from 18 February to 11 April 2019, headed by Dr. Chime Dolkar, Resident Doctor of Nizamuddin Clinic, Delhi; Tibetan Astro-Science Practitioner (TASP) Mrs. Lhamo Yangchen; and Mr. Tashi Tsering, Branch Manager, Dharamsala. The outreach team toured Dortmund, Frankfurt and Freiburg in Germany; Zurich in Switzerland; Monnetier Mornex in France; and Barcelona and Madrid in Spain, where they gave a series of lectures on Tibetan Medicine and Astro-Science. They exhibited thangkas on Tibetan medicine and Astro-Science and displayed Herbal products. The team rendered 286 health consultations and 72 oral-astro consultations during the tour. Shimla The outreach Tour in India on the theme “Healthy body Healthy Mind: Celebrating 103 years of MenTsee-Khang’s Public Health Services” was organized in Shimla from 7 to 8 May, 2019. Dr. Sunder Sharma, Deputy Director (Technical) Directorate of Ayurveda, Shimla presided as the Chief Guest for the event. Other dignitaries present were the guest of honour Mr. Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Director Himalaya Forest Research Institute (HFRI); special guests Dr. Krishan Dutt Sharma, Distt. Ayurveda Officer, Shimla; Mr. Tenzin Norbu, Tibetan Welfare Officer; and Mr. S.K. Singh, Principal and Chotop Tashi Woenang, Rector of CST Chhota Shimla. The local NGO bodies, students and the public attended the function as well. The Chief Guest commended Men-Tsee-Khang for fulfilling His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision to promote and practice Tibetan Medicine and Astro-Science. He said that “Healthy mind resides in Healthy body, which is very much applicable in today’s society as well. Therefore it is
important to take good care of it. But in order to enjoy good physical health, one must have sound mental and emotional state of mind.” Dr. Tenzin Thaye gave health consultations to 155 patients while 17 oral-astro consultations were given by Mrs. Lhamo Yangchen, Tibetan Astro-Science Practitioner. South America A tour to South America was carried out from 23 April to 28 May 2019, led by Mrs. Tenzin Yanki, Tibetan AstroScience Practitioner (TASP); Dr. Tseyang, Chauntra Sowa Rigpa Study & Research Centre; Mrs. Tenzin Kalden, Production Promotion Panel; and Ms. Chemi Dolkar, Medicine Store Department. The outreach programme included series of lectures on Tibetan Medicine, health consultation, oral-astro consultation and exhibition on Tibetan medicine and Astro-Science. The team organized programmes in Buenos Aires and Cordoba in Argentina; Bogota in Colombia; and Sau Paulo in Brazil. The doctor consulted 215 patients and offered cupping, massage and acupuncture treatments to the needed patients. A total of 199 oral-astro consultations were provided by TASP.

Sudha, Siddha Medicine; and Dr. Mohd Quarim, Unani Medicine. The conference was well received and witnessed around 70 participants in total. The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest Father Mathew Chandran Kunnel, Director of Ecunemical Centre, Bengaluru; Guest of honor Ms. Shanti Yachna, Director of Choekhor Sumling, and Special Guest Mr. Dhondup, Director of TCV Youth Hostel, Bengaluru. Sowa-Rigpa Research Symposium, Varanasi Dr. Rinzin Sangmo, Head of Research and Development Department and Mrs. Tenzin Norlha, Head of Quality Assurance Department, Men-Tsee-Khang, Dharamsala participated in the Sowa-Rigpa Research Symposium. It was organized by the Department of Sowa-Rigpa, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Varanasi from 29-30 April 2019 to mark the 25th founding anniversary of Department of Sowa-Rigpa. The conference opened with the gracious presence of Mrs. Anita Das, Former Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH as the Guest of Honor and Professor Virendra Chauhan, President of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as the Chief Guest. Dr. Rinzin Sangmo spoke on the importance of SowaRigpa Clinical Studies on Chronic Diseases such as cancer and on current researches being carried out by MenTsee-Khang. Mrs. Tenzin Norlha presented a talk on Total Quality Management of Men-Tsee-Khang’s Sorig Herbal Products.
April-May 2019 MEDICAL / AWARENESS CAMP Jangthang Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre, Ladakh conducted a free medical camp in Goyul, Kagshung, Hanley, Rongo, Nyima, Samedh, Churmur, Sumdho and Kharey in the Jangthang region from 4-14 April 2019.
Dr. Sonam Dekyi, Chief Resident Doctor, assisted by Mr. Sonam Topden and Mr. Tenzin Tharlam rendered health care services to 473 patients. Charities amounting to 232,520.38 were given to poor and needy patients. The medical camp was very beneficial to the Jangthang people, who are unable to go to hospitals or dispensaries due to their constant movement from one place to another. Dharamsala Men-Tsee-Khang organized a 2-day medical camp on 13 and 14 May 2019 at Tsuklakhang, Dharamsala. The medical camp was held after the conclusion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s three days teaching on Tsongkhapa’s Three Principal Paths (lamtso namsum) & The Furthest Everlasting Continuum (Sanskrit: Uttaratantra) (Tibetan: gyu lama). A total of 153 health consultations, 13 acupuncture treatments, 12 oral-astro consultations and charities amounting to Rs. 10,551.4 were provided by a team of three doctors, Astro-Science Practitioner and six support staff. Restorative Yoga Session, Dalhousie Under the preventative measures initiated by Men-TseeKhang, a free Yoga workshop was organized at Dalhousie Tibetan settlement. Mr. Tsering Dhondup, yoga instructor conducted the yoga classes from 20-25 April 2019 at the settlement community hall. The workshop got positive response with 16 people, mostly senior citizen, taking part in the classes. The
workshop not only proved beneficial for physical and mental well-being, but also opened doors to practice yoga for maintaining a healthy body. Yoga dresses were also distributed. Peace March To commemorate 30th birth anniversary of 11 Panchen Lama Gendun Choekyi Nyima, a nation-wide peace march was organized by Tibetan Women Association seeking his immediate release. The foot march was launched from five different zones namely Dharamsala-Chandigarh, Dehradun-Delhi, Gangtok-Salugara, Bhandara-Nagpur and Mysore-Bengaluru. Men-Tsee-Khang extended its support by providing free health care service to the marchers. Traditional health care services such as massage therapy, copper cupping, acupuncture and acupressure treatments were provided by four doctors. Charity amounting to Rs. 16,303.69 was given, and 247 participants received health consultations according to the Tibetan medicine. Leh Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre organized a medical camp during the 26th Monlam Chenmo by All Ladakh Gompa Association at the Leh Jokhang Vihara or Gompa Soma, Leh from 25-29 May 2019. The medical camp was set up inside the compound of the monastery. Three
resident doctors from Ladakh branch clinics and five support staff conducted the medical camp with the help of three intern doctors from Central Institute of Buddhist studies (CIBS). The doctors consulted 268 patients and charity amounting to Rs. 15,069.00 were dispensed. Hypertension, arthritis, diabetes, kidney stones, gastritis were some of the conditions found common in the patients.

HEALTHY BODY HEALTHY MIND: CELEBRATING 103 YEARS OF MEN-TSEE-KHANG’S PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES Our Centenary outreach tours to USA East Coast/ Canada, Europe, USA West Coast and South America conducted between April 2018 to March 2019 had been a great success due to the efforts of various support groups. Above all, the encouragements we received and the experiences we gained, contributed to our initiating more world tours. Our subsequent tours to various places had also been a great success. We plan to conduct more outreach tours (health consultations, oral-astro consultations, lectures/ workshops on Tibetan Medicine & Tibetan AstroScience, exhibition, sale of health products) every year.
