This institute does not encourage the use of mail consultation for those who have access to a Tibetan doctor graduated from Men-Tsee-Khang. Therefore we would recommend patients seek help directly from a properly trained medical doctor who uses the traditional Tibetan diagnostic procedures like reading the patient’s pulse, urine analysis and interrogations. Owing to numerous suggestions and input received over the years from patients who hold strong trust and belief in our medical system and insist that this system remains the last hope of their recovery, we feel the necessity and responsibility to provide a mail consultation facility to fulfill their wishes. It is very necessary to provide us with the following information: Your name (in capital) Gender Age Clear Address Case History and treatments As and when the above information is received, senior doctors will review the personal case. Thereafter, a reply will be sent to the individual patient informing the recommendations of the physician. If pills are prescribed then remedies will be sent after the receipt of the payment through the postal system either by Registered parcel, Courier, Speed Post or what ever kind of post facility is applicable to that particular region or country. RESEARCH Tibetan Medicine Found Effective and Safe in the Treatment of Essential Hypertension Tibetan medicine proved safe and effective for treating high blood pressure or essential hypertension, a silent and sometimes fatal disease, in a recently published research report. In response to a survey indicating a high prevalence of hypertension in the Tibetan community, the Men-Tsee-Khang Research and Development Department conducted a six months’ duration open-label, single-centre, non-randomized comparative study (2009-2010), involving four selected Tibetan hypertension medicines. A Men-Tsee-Khang

Oct-Dec 2013 total of 150 hypertensive patients (BP>125/85 and <160/100 mm/Hg) were divided into two groups, the treatment group and controls. Both groups received dietary modification and lifestyle counseling. The treatment group received the four specific hypertension formulas, whereas the controls were given Tibetan medicines other than specific hypertension treatment. On comparison of the groups at 3 and 6 months of treatment, the average percent reduction in systolic blood pressure (SBP) was found to be similar. At the 3-month visit, the average percent drop in diastolic blood pressure (DBP) was greater in the treatment group (3.7% ±1.0) than in controls (1.4%±10.8). At 6 months, average DBP had increased somewhat in both groups, but the rise was significantly less pronounced in the treatment group (p=0.0035), indicating the effectiveness of the Tibetan formulas in maintaining a healthier blood pressure. The absence of adverse effects over the study period showed that Tibetan medicines are safe for the treatment of this condition. Furthermore, the results pointed out the importance of dietary and lifestyle changes along with medication when treating hypertension. The detailed findings of this study were recently published in STM Research and Reviews-Journal of Medicine, Vol 3, no. 3, 2013. COLLABORATION Men-Tsee-Khang and Max Ventures In order to incorporate the entire alternative healing energies for wellbeing, Tibetan healing was one of the areas of interest for the Max Ventures. The traditional Tibetan system provides a holistic approach taking into consideration physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing which is also the vision

of Max Ventures. Collaboration between the two organizations was realized in July 2013 and Men-TseeKhang deputed a doctor to Vana, Malsi Estate Rereat, Dehradun: which is an undertaking and a sister concern of Max Ventures, New Delhi. In September 4 therapist were also deputed to the Vana Retreat as part of the collaboration venture. RITUALS MTK performs a ritual to appease Earth-Lords (Sa-bDag ‘Khrug bCos) More than a hundred staff, wagers and the students of Men-TseeKhang performed an important ritual to appease the Earth-Lords on 6th November 2013, at Triund, a mountain top, belonging to the beautiful Dhauladhar range. His Eminence Dzogchen Ganor Rinpoche bestowed the initiation and empowerment of this ritual to the staff and students of Men-TseeKhang during the spring of that year. Sa-Dak are the spirits that surround and protect a particular place, the lords of that land - the Earth Lords. This age-old tradition of appeasing the Earth-Lords dates back many hundreds of years. The ritual implies seeking permission to use the local resource and pledging to maintain its harmony: thereby preserving the purity of soil, rich flora, and protection from natural calamity. The ritual attendees started their journey at 3:00 o’clock in the morning from Men-Tsee-Khang and walked uphill, taking nearly four hours to reach the mountain top. At around 9:30, the congregation gathered with the members of the organizing committee who had already prepared the preliminary setting of the ritual alter with ritual cakes, assorted offerings etc. and melodious chants to the harmonious 6
