Terberg's patented SafeNeck® improves the load distribution between tractors and RoRo trailers when going up steep ramps. As a result, tractors can handle much higher loads on RoRo ramps and safety is improved. TTS Liftec is the leading supplier of translifters and cassette systems for use in ports and industry. This makes it possible to use the full payload of translifters, even on steep ramps. The tilt feature of the attachment also reduces stress on the fifth wheel frame, which extends the life of tractor components. Mr. Vallius: “After a thorough testing period the first SafeRoll

PORT APPLICATIONS
Puerto Aguadulce (SPIA) BUENAVENTURA, COLOMBIA Puerto Aguadulce (SPIA), the new terminal in Buenaventura, set to be Colombia’s most technically advanced port, will open in September 2016. The initial capacity will be 550,000 TEUs per year. This facility is a joint venture of PSA International and ICTSI, both among the world’s major port operators, and the first terminal of these two companies in this region. Among the advantages of the terminal is the exclusive road that leads to it. Port traffic does not have to go through the congested city of Buenaventura. Instead, a new road connects the terminal directly to the main road between Buenaventura and Cali, and from there on to the “Golden Triangle”, the three main cities, and key markets, in Colombia: Medellin, Bogota and Cali. The terminal has invested in the latest and best technology, including 32 YT182 tractors, supplied early in 2016 through Terberg Tractors Americas. Mr. Miguel Abisambra, CEO of Puerto Aguadulce, commented: “We take the selection of our equipment very seriously, because it is part of the high standards of quality and the efficiency value we offer clients in our operation. After a very careful process and taking into account good feedback from Terberg users, we selected it as our supplier for the tractors.”

TERBERG KINGLIFTER
Kinglifters go anywhere
Kinglifter fork lift trucks travel on the back of a truck or trailer and can dismount quickly to unload the vehicle. They are widely used by operators making deliveries to sites where conventional fork lift trucks are not available. The units can handle both palletised and conventional loads. Another advantage of the Kinglifter trucks is that they are lighter than counterbalance fork lift trucks and can therefore be used on relatively weak ground. They handle products such as building materials, gas cylinders, timber, beverages, rolls of carpet, etc. 16

They are used for handling timber for one of the largest suppliers in the Netherlands. The feedback from this loyal customer has supported our product development programme.”
THE ARMY “We did a really interesting project for the army, within a very tight deadline. As the units had to fit into non-standard containers for transport we produced a special model with a shorter mast and engineered an additional mast section to get the required lift height. These Kinglifters were also customised for operation in a harsh conditions.” 17

Exciting developments in Germany
18
Terberg has long had a strong position on the demanding German market where we continue to expand our range of products and services. Terberg Spezialfahrzeuge (formerly Terberg Nordlift) now has three sites, in Hamburg, Bochum and Bad Rappenau (near Heilbronn). The company increasingly supplies comprehensive logistics solutions which include Terberg vehicles, rail hardware, data processing systems and equipment from other suppliers such as TTS Liftec.
The new 14,000 m² service centre in Bochum (north west Germany) undertakes a wide range of work, including axle and driveline repairs. In Germany, many Terberg vehicles are used on public roads. Hence we have invested in a dynamometer rig so we can undertake brake tests and power output tests in-house. The site also includes a training centre for our personnel and that of our customers. The courses cover subjects such as electric drives and CAN bus systems. Specialist training is essential to optimise the availability of the increasingly complex vehicles. Sales and servicing of Kinglifter truckmounted fork lift trucks are now handled by Terberg Spezialfahrzeuge at Bochum. You can read more about these versatile units elsewhere in this magazine.

Metro Bahia SALVADOR, BRAZIL Salvador has a population of around three million and is the third-largest city in Brazil. The city is located in the federal state Bahia which has ambitious plans to improve its public transport system by building a metro system with 22 stations connected by around 42 km of track. The metro system is closely integrated with the light rail, tram and bus lines serving the city. Recently, a main metro depot was built as part of the expansion project. Two senior project personnel visited the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin last year where they saw the Terberg/Zagro road/rail tractors and decided to order one for the new depot. The 29-tonne unit can easily shunt metro rolling stock on 4.3% inclines and has been well-received by depot personnel.

Distributor focus: Manuport, Italy
“In the 1980s my father started importing materials handling equipment into Italy. Later we added Terberg tractors to our range and started with servicing and rentals. In its current form, Manuport was set up in 2005. In addition to Terberg tractors we also supply Seacom trailers, TTS Liftec translifters and other materials handling equipment used in ports and industry. Our customers really appreciate the reliability and efficiency of Terberg tractors, they consider them the next generation of equipment. They also value the operator comfort and safety, low fuel consumption and good support. We have many customers with RoRo operations in ports and we also supply the tractors to customers in heavy industry and distribution centres. Earlier this year we supplied 16 RT223 and 4

RT283 RoRo tractors to the Gruppo Messina (Intermodal Maritime Terminal) in Genoa. That was a really interesting project as the customer compared tractors from several suppliers and with a heavy duty test. They concluded that Terberg’s tractor performed best in the test drives and was the only one which could take a 140-tonne load up a ship’s ramp with a gradient of 16% (9°). It was great to see this independent confirmation of the capacity of our equipment and conclude a significant contract on the basis of this proven performance. We also supplied a customised RT283 tractor to a steelworks where it hauls loads of close to 200 tonnes. The steel is carried in dedicated trailers with a cover. Therefore the tractor’s cab was raised up half a metre so that the driver can see over the trailer.

They appreciate the special design which makes it easier for the driver to get into and out of the cab, and the comfort and low noise which are really important when drivers work long shifts. One of the things that stands out in our relationship with Terberg is that we are both family-owned companies, working together as solid partners with the same vision of the future. All our staff have excellent relationships with their counterparts in Benschop, from the management through to the mechanics in the workshops. That means we are in an excellent position to continue our expansion in the Italian market - together. From left to right: Arnaldo Fiorenzuola, Frank Oerlemans (Export Manager, Terberg Benschop), George Terberg (Chairman, Terberg Group), Fabio Fiorenzuola (Director, Manuport) and Paolo Fiorenzuola (Financial Director, Manuport).

Three fully electric tractors for Reitan Distribution HORSENS, DENMARK Reitan is a major distribution and warehousing company based in Horsens, on the east coast of Denmark. The warehouses, with a total area of 60,000 m², are used for chilled, frozen and ambient goods and their throughput is around 100,000 pallets per month. Reitan emphasises its role as the link between manufacturers and retailers. Every night, a fleet of yard tractors shunt trailers between the warehouses to prepare them for collection in the morning by 120 road tractors. Reitan has been using Terberg equipment with diesel engines for some time. However for the new tractors they opted for electric drive. One of the reasons for this choice was that the electric units have a lower noise level which is a significant advantage when operating at night. Terberg’s distributor in Denmark, N.C. Nielsen, analysed Reitan’s operations and provided data to confirm that electric drive was the right choice. Nielsen also arranged a visit to a warehouse operator in the Netherlands with a fleet of Terberg electric tractors, who confirmed that the units fulfilled all their expectations. As a result, Reitan invested in 3 YT202-EV yard tractors with a pneumatically operated trailer locking system. Hence there is no need for the driver to leave the cab, which improves both safety and productivity.

SAFEROLL & SAFENECK
SafeNeck inspires SafeRoll Terberg's patented SafeNeck® improves the load distribution between tractors and RoRo trailers when going up steep ramps. As a result, tractors can handle much higher loads on RoRo ramps and safety is improved. TTS Liftec is the leading supplier of translifters and cassette systems for use in ports and industry. The company is always looking for options to improve safety and efficiency. Mr. Mika Vallius, Product Manager, TTS Liftec: “While analysing the options our R&D department started to look at the Terberg SafeNeck approach and how to apply that to translifters. This started the development
Port of Rauma, Finland: Handling 85,000 kg payloads
process which resulted in Liftec SafeRoll™, a new cassette handling method which allows transporting even 85 ton payloads on 8° ramps and still keeping safe axle loads on the tractor.” Liftec SafeRoll attaches to the Terberg SafeNeck mounting on the tractor and its front end is lifted up by the hydraulic mechanism of the SafeRoll gooseneck. The low attachment point to the tractor optimises the load distribution on the tractor which allows drivers to safely stop or even accelerate in the ramp without affecting the tractor’s stability. This makes it possible to use the full payload of translifters, even on steep ramps. The tilt feature of the attachment also reduces stress on the fifth wheel frame, which extends the life of tractor components. Mr. Vallius: “After a thorough testing period the first SafeRoll units were delivered to two Finnish ports, Rauma and Hanko. The comments from the drivers have been really positive and SafeRoll has proven its durability in real working conditions. TTS Liftec Oy is convinced that SafeRoll is the next revolution in cassette handling.” 34

Terberg Benschop: expanding for the future
40
After years of negotiations with the neighbours and getting the local authority to change the zoning plan, Terberg started work on the expansion of the Benschop site in December 2015. In addition to enabling growth and continuity, one of the main drivers behind the 16,000 m² extension project is that we want to be good neighbours to the local residents. This development will enable our employees to park on the site instead of in the surrounding streets and our suppliers will be able to make deliveries with less impact on the village of Benschop. We will also build a new gatehouse. A number of old buildings have been demolished and the rubble has been crushed for re-use as hardcore under the new site paving.

Merger of Terberg Environmental and Ros Roca Environment In February 2016 Terberg Environmental, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Terberg Group based in IJsselstein, the Netherlands, and Ros Roca Environment, a Spanish group based in Lleida, Spain merged their two businesses. The new company, Terberg RosRoca Group Limited, has its headquarters in Warwick, UK. Terberg has a majority share in the merged company. In the UK, Dennis Eagle Ltd. and Terberg Matec UK both operate as subsidiaries of the new Terberg RosRoca Group. The management board includes executives from both companies and is led by Godfried Terberg as Chief Executive. This merger is highly significant to the Terberg Group as it enables us to supply a full range of products for the waste handling and recycling markets. The company offers both Dennis Eagle chassis and vehicle bodies and rear and side loading systems. This will create many opportunities for the further international expansion of our business. As a result of the merger, the annual revenue of the Terberg Group has increased to over 800 million Euro and the number of employees has grown to about 2,500. 47
