Remote Monitoring System To help our customers get the best from their Terberg vehicles we offer the Remote Monitoring System (RMS). This option consists of a small hardware unit in the tractor and a fleet management “dashboard” with a web interface. There are also supporting apps for mobile phones.
Optionally the RMS can be expanded with an access control keypad for authentication of drivers by a PIN code or RFID card. ONLINE DASHBOARD Terberg distributors set the online dashboards up for our customers. A dashboard can present all relevant vehicle data for a period up to five years and generate reports to optimise fleet management. Maintenance calls can be generated automatically based on the number of operating hours. Additionally, when a signal measured on the vehicle goes outside a defined range this triggers an alarm on the online

A powerful pair for Barcelona Terberg’s heavy RT403 4x4 industrial tractor with its powerful 300 kW engine is used in a range of settings, from steelworks to shipyards. We were recently asked to provide a solution to work with a shiplift and transfer system for a shipyard in Barcelona. This system uses platforms (81 x 20 m) to handle ships with a length up to 105 m and transport them both lengthways and sideways.

27 Terberg tractors for Borouge - Abu Dhabi UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
In 2014, Specialized Technical Equipment (STE), the Terberg Special Vehicles distributor for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, first delivered Terberg tractors to the remote location of Al Ruwais.
8
Al Ruwais (“the small head”), is a remote location some 250 kilometres west of the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, and sees average peak temperatures during the height of summer of 47°C which, combined with an abundance of sand, makes it a harsh climate for both man and machine. These first units went to Borouge, who ordered five RT223 RoRo 4x4 tractors. Borouge is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC and Borealis, a company based in Austria. As a leading petrochemicals company Borouge provides innovative plastics solutions for the energy, infrastructure, mobility, packaging, healthcare and agriculture industries. With 4.5 million tonnes of annual capacity in Ruwais it operates the world’s largest integrated polyolefin complex, with the ambition to more than double its current capacity by 2025. Expansion of operations at Borouge in recent years has led to the requirement for more equipment, but also coincided with replacement of their old terminal tractors, bringing about the tender process for 4x2 yard tractors for use within the plant and distribution centers. After a lengthy tender analysis by Borouge throughout 2017, the final decision was made to award the contract to STE for twenty seven Terberg YT182 tractors with delivery for the first part of 2018. Mr Hasan Abdelsalam, Managing Partner at STE, stated “We have been a supplier to Borouge for many years, and with our local presence and a product known for its performance, reliability and low cost of ownership we were in a strong position to win this business”. With the first deliveries made, maintenance and driver familiarisation training was provided by both factory and local Terberg staff on site in Al Ruwais, with over 20 Borouge staff trained.

Schmitz Cargobull GERMANY
Like Terberg, Schmitz Cargobull AG focusses on quality, and that pays off. With an annual production of approximately 58,000 units and around EUR 2 billion in sales, Schmitz Cargobull AG is Europe’s leading manufacturer of semitrailers, trailers and bodies for refrigerated cargo, general cargo and bulk goods. As a pioneer in the industry, the company from Münsterland in North Rhine-Westphalia consistently sets quality standards: from research and development through production to services such as consulting, trailer telematics, financing, spare parts supply and used vehicle sales. Schmitz Cargobull has relied on Terberg tractors for more than 10 years to transport the finished trailers. “The Terberg vehicles have supported us in our yard logistics for many years” says Olaf Schütte, head of the Altenberge plant. “They are characterized by great robustness, flexibility and reliability.” Currently, there are 17 tractors (RT223, TT223 and YT222) in use at the company’s sites in Altenberge and Vreden, as well as for the longer distance transport to off-site storage.

BODY CARRIER
SPECIAL
Swap bodies - the lightweight alternative We are all familiar with heavy duty ISO shipping containers which have made international transport much more efficient in recent decades. The downside of these is that they need large and costly equipment to handle them. However, there is an alternative, the swap body, which is widely used in Europe, especially in Germany and surrounding countries. These interchangeable units are fitted with legs and are much lighter than ISO shipping containers. They are intended for distribution operations and transport across shorter distances rather than long distance transport by sea. When a driver wants to drop off a swap body, they lower the vehicle’s lifting table (on a body carrier) or air suspension system (on a conventional truck). The swap body then lands on its legs and the vehicle drives away from underneath it. Hence there is no need for heavy and costly handling equipment.
Handling parcels quickly, safely and efficiently Swap bodies designed to standard EN 284 generally have a maximum loaded weight of 16 tonnes and a length of between 6 and 8 metres. Their dimensions are optimised for loading with Europallets (1200 x 800 mm). They are not normally intended for stacking. In addition to standard box swap bodies there are also reefer, flat and tank models available. 14

Customers shopping on the Internet increasingly expect next day, or even same day, delivery. This requires dense distribution networks and efficient distribution centres. Terberg body carriers are used by many logistics service providers. Our reliable and robust vehicles help them to operate efficient distribution centres, around the clock. The rapid growth in the number of distribution centres throughout Europe presents us with new opportunities. As with all Terberg vehicles, body carriers can be tailored to a customer’s requirements and logistics processes.

BODY CARRIER
Terberg’s body carriers Our body carriers (BCs) have a lifting table to pick up swap bodies and drop them off much more quickly than when using the air suspension system of a conventional truck. BCs can also handle drawbar trailers and can be fitted with a fifth wheel for semitrailers. This makes them the perfect choice for modern distribution centres. Some of our customers also use BCs to transport swap bodies by public road over shorter distances.

FDRC – Training tractors The Port of Felixstowe is often called the UK’s Premier Port and is the largest user of Terberg products in the country. The Terberg Felixstowe relationship goes back many years during which time hundreds of units have been delivered. Their fleet consists of both YT and RT models which are used in all areas of operation. Terberg DTS are the number one after-market supplier, warranty provider and parts supplier for Felixstowe. Over the years this customer has been a major contributor to the success, continued improvement and innovation of Terberg products. For example, we have recently manufactured and supplied a twin cab which was designed specifically for their training needs. 20

HIP is one of the largest UK RoRo operators and have been a Terberg customer for over 10 years. This custom was won based after a full tender evaluation taking into account: value for money, parts supply and the ability to provide a full after-sales service. The units recently supplied are complete with the proven Terberg driveline, including Volvo Tier 4 final engines and ZF transmissions. The outstanding feature of these units is that they are multifunctional and can handle trestles, goosenecks and road-going terminal trailers.

37 Terberg tractors for PSA Panama PANAMA
PORT APPLICATIONS
PSA Panama is expanding the capacity of its container terminal to 2 million TEU per year. As part of this project they purchased 37 YT222 tractors through Global Port Equipment Americas, Terberg’s distributor for Colombia and Panama. PSA participates in around 40 terminals in 16 countries across Asia, Europe and the Americas and uses Terberg tractors at many of these operations. They have found our tractors to be reliable, comfortable and easy to maintain, resulting in a low total cost of ownership and low downtime. Mr. Jorge Hernandez of PSA Panama commented: “Terberg is one of our preferred vendors for tractors, with worldwide deliveries. We know the quality of the product and are confident the units will perform as well here as they do in other terminals. The comfort, ease of maintenance and often relatively simple engineering solutions contribute to a low total Cost of Ownership and high uptime of the machine not only when brand new but for years to come.” Hence PSA Panama also decided to invest in Terberg equipment. Terberg’s Benschop plant prepared the new tractors for fitting the communications systems used by PSA Panama. The systems were then fitted by Global Port Equipment Americas. Mr. Jorge Hernandez of PSA Panama: “We had a lot of equipment to be fitted, but the YT cabins are very spacious so the equipment does not affect the drivers’ comfort.” PSA Panama also concluded a maintenance contract with Global Port Equipment Americas.

18 YT222s for TPS Valparaiso CHILE
TPS has managed Terminal 1 in Valparaiso since 2000. The terminal handles both container vessels and multipurpose vessels. Currently the throughput is well over half a million TEU per year. The port of Valparaiso, on the west coast of Chile, is extremely important as it supports over half the population and economic activity of the country. As part of its expansion programme, TPSV recently invested in 18 YT222 tractors. Oliver Weinreich, Managing Director, TPS Valparaíso, commented: “The safety and wellbeing of our employees is of utmost importance. The safety aspect was an important decision-making factor. Although we have not had Terbergs in our fleet before, we believe Terberg is one of the safest, if not the safest, machine on the market. We also received excellent feedback from other terminals which use the vehicles.” In addition to the standard safety measures these YTs have three-point seatbelts integrated into the seats, and an additional protection frame behind the cabin. Terberg’s distributor, Tattersall Maquinarias, commissioned the tractors and will also provide after-sales support. Mr. Weinreich: “We are pleased that Terberg appointed a distributor in Chile a few years ago, local access to after-sales service is very important.” There are now 50 Terberg tractors operating in Chile, some of which are 20 years old.

APMT Terminals Tangier is a leading terminal operator in Morocco, close to main shipping lanes and with direct services to 170 ports in 67 countries. Their 800 employees handle around 1.7 million TEU every year at this busy terminal. After comparing Terberg tractors with the alternatives on the market and further to the experiences of the APMT terminal in Algeciras and a test on site APMT Tangier decided to invest in 30 YT222 tractors to replace part of their fleet. At the request of the drivers the units were fitted with options such as a cabin door on the left and an adjustable steering column.
