2017 DUTCH FAMILY BUSINESS AWARD
Family businesses, some of which are very large, play an important role in the Dutch economy. The 260,000 family businesses in the Netherlands account for 49% of employment and 53% of the GDP. One of the strengths of family businesses is that they are usually focussed on the longer term and their significance is underlined by the annual Dutch Family Business Award.

ROAD/RAIL APPLICATIONS
LogServ
Two transport modes, one tractor
AUSTRIA LogServ provides logistics services at the Voestalpine steelworks in Linz, Austria. The company invested in a Terberg RR282 road/ rail tractor for shunting coal wagons at the steelworks ship terminal. This unit was selected after a European tender and a successful test on site. As the tractor can drive on paved surfaces as well as tracks it can easily be deployed at the part of the terminal where it is required. The RR282 can handle up to 25 coal wagons with a total weight up to 2,800 tonnes. The terminal has three coal unloading cranes and the crane operators can control the vehicle from the crane cabins using radio remote control. The operators have received additional training and are qualified as train drivers. The tractor has been fitted with video cameras to give the operators excellent view and ensure safety and efficiency.

TECHNICAL FOCUS
A u t oT U G ™
The technology behind AutoTUG™ Our solution is highly modular which makes it easy to adapt the automation package to different vehicle types, communications options and navigation systems. This allows us to tailor AutoTUG™ to the conditions at your terminal or distribution centre.
BTG transponders are sealed and do not contain batteries and therefore have an extremely long life. They can be installed quickly into the pavement by drilling a 25 mm hole, inserting the transponder and sealing the hole. After installation they are programmed with their position and are then ready for use. The transponder spacing is normally between 4 to 8 metres.

1975
THE RUSSIAN MARKET Russia is a huge country, and a long way away from Benschop. Even so, many of our tractors are operating there and we enjoy a good reputation in the country. We received our first order, for 32 units, in 1975. After a dip in the 1990s we managed to increase our presence in the market, with Terberg tractors operating in all significant ports - from Murmansk to Novorossiysk, and from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok.

Port of Bronka RUSSIA MSCC Bronka (Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex Bronka) is a new deepwater terminal in St. Petersburg, operated as a public/private partnership. It benefits from a water depth of 14.4 metres and a direct connection to the ring road around the city. Construction started in 2011 and the first stage of the project became operational in 2015, with an annual capacity of 1.45 million TEU and 260,000 RoRo units. There are plans to increase the capacity to 1.9 million TEU. The Port of Bronka can accommodate Post-Panamax container vessels and Finnstar class ferries. The site includes a logistics centre and border checkpoint. Mr. Andrey Blinov, CTO, commented: “When

After 39 years at Terberg Benschop, George Terberg is now full-time Chairman of the Board of the Terberg Group. He made a farewell visit to Terberg DTS, accompanied by Rob van Hove, his replacement at Terberg Benschop. They joined us at a meeting with DFDS Immingham. George concluded Terberg’s first contract with DFDS in 1997 and our tractors are now operating at all DFDS sites in Europe. BELGIUM
PORT APPLICATIONS
Cuypers Vorkliften/ Stora Enso BELGIUM Stora Enso is a leading provider of renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wooden structures and paper, worldwide. The aim of Stora Enso is to replace fossil based materials by innovating and developing new products and services based on wood and other renewable materials. In the late 1990s Stora Enso decided to re-organize their logistics system completely. The backbone for transporting huge volumes of paper from Scandinavia to the distribution centre in Zeebrugge became the SECU (Stora Enso Cargo unit). This is a very large container with a length of 13.8 m, a width of 3.6 and a height of 3.6 m, capable of carrying up to 80 ton of paper. As SECU boxes are optimised for the paper reel sizes they minimise the handling of the cargo and thus the risk of damage. SECU boxes are transported from the papermill to the port of Göteborg in Sweden by rail, on a line with an extra-large load gauge. A fleet of dedicated vessels then transports the paper to the central point in Europe, Zeebrugge, for the worldwide distribution. The loading and unloading operations are highly efficient as six boxes fit next to each other in the vessel and are secured by hydraulic jacks. In Zeebrugge the vessels are unloaded in just three hours at a dedicated pontoon where up to four Terberg tractors with translifters carrying SECU boxes can operate simultaneously. Such heavy loads demand special tractors: RT403 units fitted with a cab which can slide sideways by 0.6 metres so the driver’s view is not blocked by the SECU box. These tractors are part of a fleet of Terberg equipment owned by Cuypers Vorkliften and on hire to the PSA terminal in Zeebrugge. Terberg rental operations Terberg Spezialfahrzeuge has a rental fleet of around 200 vehicles. All are covered by a comprehensive maintenance package to ensure that the vehicles are always in the best possible condition. They are fitted with data collection boxes which gather information relevant to servicing and send this to the head office using a telematics system. Our rental fleet is modern and regularly expanded and customers can rent tractors, body carriers and truck-mounted forklift trucks for projects or on a long-term basis. Renting a vehicle also gives our customers the opportunity to test it out in their operations for a longer period and then decide if they want to purchase it.

Port of Salalah OMAN The Port of Salalah is Oman’s major transhipment hub on the Arabian Sea. They recently took delivery of 20 new Terberg YT222 tractors as replacements for their older fleet of Terberg Tractors. In addition to this and to cope with increased container volumes they purchased 30 used Terberg tractors. These units came from another APM Terminal but unfortunately they were not equipped with air conditioning, an essential requirement as temperatures can easily reach the high 40s. Terberg arranged for this to be retrofitted on site in Salalah in time for the summer using original parts and also provided the updated parts and service manuals to reflect the specification change. As part of the employee engagement practices at the Port of Salalah the new units can only be driven by drivers who have shown consistent performance in productivity and safety.

New 3 41,000 m automated warehouse in Benschop
44
In recent years the demand for Terberg tractors has increased significantly and we have had to increase our production capacity. The purchase of 16,000 m² of land adjacent to our main site at Benschop has given us the opportunity to optimise logistics. One of the advantages is that delivery trucks can now reach us without having to drive through the village centre. This land has also given us space to build a new, state-of-the-art warehouse to support both the production plant and our busy spare parts department. 45
