Megadeth Bassist Dave Ellefson Performs at BFE Rock Club September 29th Dave Ellefson is the bassist, co-founder and second-longest serving member of Megadeth, which he was in from 1983 to 2002 and again from 2010. In addition to playing bass guitar in Megadeth, Ellefson also has various side projects which include Temple of Brutality, F5, and Killing Machine. Ellefson became an accomplished bassist and honed his songwriting skills while leading several of his own bands through the club scene of North America’s Midwest region before relocating to Los Angeles. Other than guitarist, vocalist, and primary lyricist Dave Mustaine, Ellefson was the only constant member of Megadeth from the time of their establishment in 1983 to the group’s dissolution in 2002 (Mustaine subsequently reformed Megadeth without Ellefson in 2004). To differentiate between the two Daves, Mustaine referred to Ellefson as “Dave Junior”, which was often shortened to “Junior”. He appeared on every album and tour from 1985’s record Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good! Up until 2002’s Rude Awakening. Ellefson’s original playing style involved using his fingers; however, as Megadeth progressed and the music became more complex, he tended to prefer playing with a pick/plectrum. Ellefson was credited with some Megadeth songs, including “Family Tree” from 1994’s Youthanasia. Ellefson formed F5 following Megadeth’s 2002 disbandment. The band featured Ellefson on bass, Dale Steele on vocals, Steve Conley on lead guitar, John Davis on rhythm guitar and former Megadeth bandmate Jimmy DeGrasso on drums. Their first album, A Drug for all Seasons, was released in 2005. F5 appeared in support for Disturbed in February 2006 and toured the American Mid-West in the summer of 2006. Ellefson also appeared on the new Killing Machine record Metalmorphosis in 2006 alongside DeGrasso; he has also been working with Temple of Brutality. Ellefson is currently a member of the melodic power metal band Avian which features singer Lance King. He commented in an interview with Alternative-Zine.com that “Megadeth was really just a starting point for me, creatively”. Ellefson played five tracks for the Soulfly album Prophecy and also played on one track on Dark Ages. He also worked with underground emcee/Record producer Necro for his album entitled Death Rap. Ellefson is also a member of a tribute band called Hail! Ellefson, DeGrasso (Mike Portnoy for 2010), Tim “Ripper” Owens and Andreas Kisser formed the band in late 2008. The band was, as of April 2009, touring Europe. Ellefson
participated in the Christmas Rock project Northern Light Orchestra, he performed bass on many of the 17 tracks produced by rock drummer Ken Mary and also at the live show Christmas in April Orpheum Theatre, Phoenix, Arizona. On February 8, 2010, Ellefson received a text message from Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover, saying “if ever there was a time for you and Dave [Mustaine] to talk, now is it”. Ellefson was invited to rehearse with the band. After the phone call, the news was released that Ellefson would return to the Megadeth lineup. Ellefson was quoted saying “it felt like I never left” after their first rehearsal together. In 2013, Ellefson announced that his autobiography, entitled My Life With Deth, would be issued by American publisher Howard Books. The memoir was co-written with author Joel McIver, and features a foreword by Alice Cooper. In October 2015 it was announced that Ellefson had launched a record label and production company, Ellefson Music Productions, also known as EMP Label Group, and would release In Your Face, the debut EP from Phoenixbased all-girl pop-punk group Doll Skin (which Ellefson also produced), in conjunction with Megaforce Records in North America, and Cargo Records in Europe. The EP was released October 30 in North America, and December 18 in Europe, and re-released as an LP titled in Your Face(Again) in March 2016 via eOne Distribution. The singles from the LP received airplay on many prominent stations in the US and Europe, including Rodney Bingenheimer’s weekly show on influential LA Rock station KROQ. Since forming in 2015, EMP Label Group has secured distribution from eOne Distribution in North America, and SPV GMBH in Europe, with the roster spread among several imprints including EMP Label Group (Ellefson Music Productions in Europe), and EMP Underground. Ellefson also appears on a recurring segment “Mandatory Megadeth” on Hazaert’s Dash Radio show. In January 2017, Ellefson opened Ellefson Coffee Co. in his hometown, Jackson, Minn. You can see David Ellefson up close and in person as part of his “BASSTORY TOUR” on Saturday, Sept 29th at the BFE Rock Club Also you can meet Ellefson at Misunderstood Ink Tattoo Studios that same day from 5-6PM. Andrew W.K. Performs at White Oak Music Hall Andrew W.K. will be performing this month on September 23rd at White Oak Music Hall. That’s right, Andrew W.K., the self-proclaimed “king of partying” will be back in Houston for one night only at White Oak. To cap things off, Andrew will be performing songs from his new release, “You’re Not Alone,” out now on RED MUSIC/ SONY MUSIC worldwide. This is Andrew’s first new studio release in 12 years, and he’s extremely proud of it. He tells us that it carry’s on his self-describing theme of partying with 16 brand new songs. Although Andrew hasn’t released anything new during that time, he tells us that he’s been kept busy with the writing of these 16 new songs. He describes the new music as “high octane, full throttle rock ’n’ roll powered by buoyant, infectious, and triumphant melodies.” The main theme of this new album involves partying to the max, as Andrew tells us, “Partying is my my main theme. It is my main message as I have presented in all my work over the years.” And although some of the song titles on the album at first seem like they may different meanings, Andrew assures us that every song on this album involves the theme of Partying to the max. “‘Won’t give up on you,’” explains Andrew, “is about not giving up on partying. “Keep On Going,” is about keeping on going with partying, “In Your Darkest Moments” is about how partying will bring life to those moments of pain and suffering.” The entire album starts out from the moment of inception with the subject of
partying with the song, “The Power of Partying.” “The Power of Partying” is the kick off to the new album,” continues Andrew, “and the only lyrics to the song is the word ‘party,’ repeated in repetitions of three, so it goes “Party Party Party, Party Party Party. It can almost be looked at as an instrumental, with that ‘Party’ chant. I am trying to set the tone for a triumphant celebration of life. The next song, “Music Is Worth Living For,” is a celebration of music specifically and brings the power of partying into the power of music to empower the party itself. I’m not saying that every party has to have music, but I would have to agree that life is made better in general with the presence of music and it is really just a song worshiping music itself. “Ever Again” is the first song that was co-written by myself and that amazing musician Doug Anson. He and I had the privilege of working on a lot of music together over the years. I was excited to work with him again on songs for this album. That song was about overcoming difficulties and obstacles using music as its main force.” And although partying is the main theme throughout the album, some of the songs do have a deeper meaning as Andrew describes the song, “ I Don’t Know Anything.” “As much as I try to sum up songs that I write and what they mean, this one, I guess that you could say this one is about confronting nihilism, confronting confusion and accepting the inescapable ignorance that’s in ones thoughts, rather than admitting that in a defeatest way, trying to embrace it in the ongoing theme of partying.”
As Andrew explains to us, the songs on this album are equally shallow, yet deep, in their own ways. Some of the songs on this album are outright favorites of Andrew’s, such as the title track of the album, “You’re not alone.” “I really like the title track of the album. I really enjoy singing it. I also really like playing, “Embrace The Curse.” That’s the song we’ve been playing live and it really adds a lot of dynamics to our set.” Although the recording of the album was a bit frustrating for Andrew, it was pretty painless, with the exception of the short motivation speech’s that he also included in this release. At any rate, the entire album definitely came out as something that Andrew is extremely proud of. The songs on this album follow a surprising path to self-actualization. They give
the listener permission to admit their vulnerabilities, and the encouragement to feel empowered. They’re reflections on the push and pull between freedom and restriction. It’s a confirmation of everything you are, rejection of all you are not, and at times, a blurring of the difference between the two. Doubt becomes certainty, confusion becomes clarity, and the fear of life becomes the courage to live it completely. The album reveals itself through double meanings, mirrored views, each ringing equally true, even at their most severely discordant. Andrew W.K. has lived a life built on a belief that to reach a state of grace and acceptance, one must embrace both the shadow and the light, the pain and the joy, all that is known and unknown, the stability as well as the chaos, its speed and torpor. Understanding this, Andrew W.K. suggests, is the foundation of what partying eventually transmits to us. And by harnessing the revelatory power of partying - by celebrating the puzzles and pressures of life - we find the key to change and evolution comes from both inside and out, when we’re together and on our own. That inner voice, the music of our consciousness, becomes our guide. Trust it. Follow it. Through good times and bad, ups and downs, highs and lows. Realize that just being able to hear it conveys something fundamental to your being... you’re not alone.

Vinnie Moore & Gus G. Perform at The Scout Bar UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore will be embarking on his first solo tour since 2015, with Gus G as the support act, aptly titled as the ‘Gunslingers’ tour. The show will reach the Scout Bar in Webster on Thursday, September 13. The show will feature music from both guitarists’ impressive catalogs. Moore‘s latest solo album was released in October 2015 via Mind’s Eye Music. Titled “Aerial Visions”, the disc featured drummer Richie Monica (Tantric, Poppa Chubby), and bassists Dave LaRue (Steve Morse, Flying Colors, The Dregs), Rob DeLuca (UFO, Sebastian Bach), Dorian Heartsong (Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience) and Elliott Dean Rubinson (Uli Jon Roth, MSG). Vinnie Moore: “Gus and I met years back in Greece. I brought him up onstage to jam a couple tunes with me and we had a great energy together and had a blast. I knew that night that I would like to do some shows with him at some point. He’s a very talented guitarist. Am really looking forward to some Gunslingin’ with Gus.” Vinnie has released eight critically acclaimed solo albums; six albums and one DVD as a member of rock royalty legends UFO; and one album with band Red Zone Rider. His solo and UFO releases as well as live performances have amassed rave reviews all around the globe from both fans and music press, inspiring guitarists worldwide and launching him into aerial guitar superhero distinction. Gus G will be promoting his brand-new
solo album, Fearless. The album is the Firewind mastermind’s first since leaving Ozzy Osbourne’s band in 2017 (he was replaced by Zakk Wylde) and is the follow-up to 2015’s Brand New Revolution. It was recorded with vocalist/bassist Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69/Unisonic) and drummer Will Hunt (Evanescence, Black Label Society). Gus G: “Touring with Vinnie Moore is yet another dream come true for me. His album “Mind’s Eye” has had a huge impact on me as I consider it somewhat as a shred guitar “bible”. I spent countless hours learning his licks as a teenager. We met and got to jam few years ago and have become good buddies since. I’m looking forward to returning to the US and playing guitar for you & sharing the stage with Vinnie! See you soon!”
Killing Joke Perform at Warehouse Live Killing Joke is out on the road right now on their 40th Anniversary Tour which will bring them to Warehouse live this September 19th. Though Killing Joke never entered the mainstream, their influence on alternative music and pop culture can not be stressed enough. The band is most notably recognized as a key figure in the English post-punk movement; however, their gloom ridden style helped pave the way for goth and industrial music. The band formed in Notting Hill, London, England around the late 70s. The group was initially started by drummer Paul Ferguson and singer Jaz Coleman. Ferguson and Coleman put up flyers around town to recruit new members for their project and eventually got responses from bass player Martin Glover and ex-Rage guitarist Kevin Walker. They released their first EP “Turn Red” on 26 October 1979. Influential critic/DJ John Peel was impressed with the group’s EP and frequently played it on his radio station. The band’s early releases channeled the primitivism of punk rock, but dressed it up with eccentric electronic sounds. Their first self-titled full length release ventured into dark sludge rock territories and extreme metal tendencies. The band’s eclectic display of musical ideas appealed to many different crowds, including the metal and punk scene. With their more upbeat, but nevertheless warped songs like “Psyche” and “Follow the Leader” they even gained the interest of disco fiends. Their second album “What’s THIS For....!” went in an even more abrasive direction. The band’s third album “Revelations” was released in 1982 and entered the UK charts at No. 12. During this time lead singer Coleman became infatuated with the occult and the teachings of Aleister Crowley. He believed that the Apocalypse was coming soon and convinced
bandmate Walker to come to Iceland with him to escape it. Youth joined them slightly after. The members formed the project Niceland, however Youth was not convinced that the Apocalypse was coming and joined Ferguson back in England to form the band Brilliant. Ferguson left Brilliant to rejoin the Killing Joke in Iceland. The Killing Joke moved back to England and began recording and touring again. In 1983 they put out their fourth LP “Fire Dance”, which exhibited a more artistic and softer tone than their previous albums. The band continued to release albums in this vein; however, they consequently lost touch with their formative fans. Coleman wanted to make a solo album in 1987, but with pressure ensuing from his label he released it under the name of Killing Joke in hopes of selling more copies. Despite efforts to have other members of the band perform on the album; Coleman, was the only member of the group featured on this release. Killing Joke went back to their earlier sound in the 90s and also toured more frequently. The group was back on track with the release of 1994’s “Pandemonium” and 1996’s “Democracy”. Both albums were praised by critics and fans alike. Killing Joke put out their follow up to “Democracy” 7 years later. Their second selftitled album was their first to feature Nirvana/ Foo Fighter member Dave Grohl. Killing Joke has since gone on to release “Absolute Dissent” in 2010, “MMXII” in 2012, and “Pylon” in 2015. They have toured extensively throughout the 2000s and in 2008 they toured with all the original lineup.
MUSIC NEWS Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy®-winning singer and songwriter OZZY OSBOURNE will soon bring his final world tour titled “NO MORE TOURS 2,” a reference to his 1992 “No More Tours” trek, to North America. Celebrating five decades of performing, the legendary musical icon—with his longtime collaborators Zakk Wylde (guitar), Blasko (bass), Tommy Clufetos (drums) and Adam Wakeman (keyboards)—will stop locally in Houston on Friday, September 28 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion featuring support from Stone Sour. “I’ve been blessed with an amazing life,” Osbourne says. “I’m looking at this final tour as being a huge celebration for my fans and anyone who has enjoyed my music over the past five decades.” On his farewell world tour, produced by Live Nation, Osbourne will celebrate more than five decades as a performer: both as a solo artist and as lead singer of Black Sabbath, which formed in 1968. This tour, expected to take Ozzy around the world with dates into 2020, will mark the end of global touring for the legendary artist, though he will continue to perform select live shows in the future. Throughout his career, Ozzy has sold more than 100 million records. For the tour, Ozzy has teamed with the Love Hope Strength Foundation. At Love Hope Strength (LHS), their mission is to save lives, one concert at a time. They believe that all people deserve quality cancer care, a marrow donor if needed, and most importantly, hope. Founded by cancer survivors, LHS leverages the power of music to expand the marrow registry through their “Get on the List” campaign. At LHS, they believe in offering real hope to people currently living with cancer. For more information, go to: www.lovehopestrength.org. That’s right folks, Ozzy is taking a departure from touring. In fact, this current tour is known as “No More Tours 2”. I know what you’re thinking, haven’t we heard this before. Yes, we have. The first time that Ozzy announced that he was retiring from the road was in 1992 when he was mis-diagnosed with MS. As you can expect, that dealt him a big blow, not to mention a helluva scare. Fortunately for his fans, that was proven to be false and Ozzy returned to the road on both solo tours, and tours with his longtime comrades, Black Sabbath. This new “farewell” tour is for entirely different reasons. As Ozzy puts it, “I’m not retiring from the Music Business, I’m just not doing World Tours anymore. I’ll be doing gigs.” In this interview, Ozzy explains a bit about what’s going down with his future and the “No More Tours 2” tour, along with his wife Sharon. Why now Ozzy? Ozzy”: “I’m 70 now. I’ve missed my family over the years. I’ve always been out on the road all the time. I want to try and spend some time with my family. When you first toured, what was your biggest challenge, and on this tour, what is your biggest challenge? Ozzy: It’s Rock and Roll. You can’t make it up. Some nights it’s good, and some nights it’s not so good. I can’t remember the first gig. On the Sabbath thing I just did, I didn’t think I’d get emotional, but on the last gig in Birmingham, England, where we got started, I just go emotional. It’s the greatest love affair I’ve ever had in my life. Have you chosen the last song you’d go out on? Ozzy: “I’ve always played “Paranoid.” It’s like my anthem.” What kind of shows do you see yourself doing once you’ve finished touring the world? Sharon Osbourne: “Anything but Coachella. Let’s put it that way.” Sharon, what’s it going to be like having Ozzy at home all the time now? Sharon Osbourne: “I’m f@#king frightened. I think I need to get another job.” Ozzy, are you going to play anywhere on this tour any place you haven’t played in a long time? Ozzy: “Israel and Korea.” What’s the future for Ozzfest? Sharon Osbourne: “It will still go on. Yeah, it will.” So you have played for five decades and more than 2500 shows. Can you describe the feeling on stage in the midst of a great show
ing tours.... oh yeah, it’s the right time... I don’t want to dwindle into history. My biggest fear is dying in a hotel room. I’ve got this morbid fear of dying in a hotel room... in bumf@#k, Idaho or so.” Looking back on the road, can you describe the best gig you’ve ever done, or where it was? Ozzy: “I’ve got two in mind. Israel. When I played Israel, they went f@#king insane. Then there was the Donningham festival in England. I was on the bill with AC/DC and I was smokin’. It was f@#king great.” Can you describe your worst night on tour? Ozzy: “I’ve had three a week. It’s Murphy’s Law that when things can go wrong, they do go wrong. You just got to get on with it. I played Vancouver one time. I got on stage and my voice just shut down. I thought, ‘Oh god, beam me up Scotty.’ It can be Heaven or Hell.” What is it about Zach Wylde’s guitar playing that fires you up? Ozzy: “He’s nuts... He’s insane... He plays guitar like a demon. There ain’t no two Zakk Wylde’s, thank god. It’s like splitting the atom. He’s phenomenal. Since I’ve been playing with him, he’s really gotten’ ‘kick ass’.” How are you determining what songs are going to the set list for the tour? Ozzy: “Well there’s songs I always have to play... “Paranoid,” “Crazy Train,” “I Don’t Know,” “Mr. Crowley,” and so on. But I’m trying to introduce new songs to the set. I’m thinking of doing a song called, “Waiting For Darkness,” off the “Bark At The Moon” album. I’m trying new things out, but it’s got to have a flow.” What do you look forward to most when you come off touring? Ozzy: “My wife’s cooking. That’s for sure. And my dog, the love of my life, a little pomeranian, my house. I’ve had several houses over the years and I’ve never lived in them. This one I bought two years ago and this is the longest I’ve ever lived in one. when everything comes together.. the music.. the lights.. the sound.. the audience. Ozzy: “There’s nothing in the world.. sex.. drugs.. anything.. that comes close to doing the best show. A great show. And there’s nothing more depressing that when you go on stage and you want to give them your best and everything goes wrong. You’ve got one shot and you can’t go, ‘can you come back tomorrow, my voice ain’t too good’, or ‘I’ve got a headache.’ I mean the surprises of the job I have to do, is phenomenal. When you least expect it, it can all go wrong, and when you least expect it, it can all go right. There’s nothing like a good gig, and there’s nothing like a bad gig. I’ve done my fair share of both. Sometimes my perception can get in the way.” Although you’ve said you aren’t retiring, why do you feel a ‘farewell tour’ is right, right now? Ozzy: “I’m 70 this next birthday. I want to spend some more time with my family. I never saw my kids grow. I’m always going ‘bye bye’. I need to do something that I want to do. It’s kind of cheeky when I go out there and I don’t really want to do what I’m doing, because I want to get home. I’m not retiring. I’m just not doing world tours anymore. I’m going to be doing gigs. I’m going to be doing Ozzfest, or some festivals, or whatever. I’m not touring from January to December anymore. I can’t do it anymore. When you’re talking to Sharon on the phone and she tells you, ‘you should have been here today, Aimee said her first words,” and I go aw, f@#k! And here I am, sitting in a great big hotel suite watching TV, f@#kin everyday.. and I’m thinking is this my life? I do a show, take a day off, do a show, take another day off. It’s two days I wasn’t there for you and it’s like ‘what am I here for.’ I can’t complain to my followers. They’ve been there from day 1. I get fathers, sons and sons. I only thought it would be like four albums, but it’s been 50 years on the road.” How long ago did you start planning for this tour. Ozzy: “Sharon has always said, when you get to the age 70, we’re going to change... from the word ‘go’. I go ‘she’s not going to change.’ I go hot and cold. Oh, I can’t imagine not do-

We’re at the Pub Galleria tonight to see Sonic Seduction. This is our first time for this band, but already we’re impressed. They’ve been performing a mixture of classic rock with a smattering of disco. It sounds good to us and the audience there is really getting into it. Lead singer, Valerie Nemow is doing a fine job, both at singing, and at giving the band that seductive look that drives the male fans crazy. Guitarist Craig Nemow is just killing it on guitar. I don’t think there’s anything this guy can’t play. Keyboardist Dan Schrieber is doing an equally great job as well. And they really have a tight rhythm section in drummer Kevin Schuenemann and bassist Frank Pinedo. Altogether, these guys have what it takes to really make your evening fantastic with great entertainment. Their set list is really off the hook. They’ve been performing songs like “Footloose,” Brickhouse,” and “Get Down Tonight” by KC and The Sunshine Band. Here they are performing “Separate Ways” by Journey. Slayer tribute band, War Ensemble, put on an extraordinary show this past month at The Scout Bar. The crowd there just went wild as they performed one Slayer hit after another. It was definitely a lot of fun to have an evening dedicated to the heaviest of heavy metal, Slayer. Good Job Guys! They sounded as close to the real thing as they could and did a fantastic job at it. Can’t wait to see them again. You just can’t get enough Slayer.

The Ashford Pub doesn’t feature live music that often, but when they do, they always bring in a really good band, and tonight was one of those nights. Performing there this night was Catfish featuring guitarist extraordinaire, Hugo. We’ve seen Catfish before, so we were expecting some good music, but tonight these guys were at the top of their game. Their song selection tonight was really good as well. They were performing songs by Stevie Ray Vaughtan (“Cold Shot” & “Pride & Joy”), Marvin Gaye (What’s Going On”), and Bill Withers (“Ain’t No Sunshine”), to name a few. They seemed to be playing just the right songs for The Ashford Pub folks. Everyone just loved them. And Hugo was just killing it on guitar. He’s definitely a fine guitarist and vocalist. We’ve got two videos from this night to share with you on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television, so you can start watching any time you want. It’s going to be a lot of fun. The Hollywood Spotlight By Hollywood Steve Rangel
Red Tiger “Evolution” Sometimes a band describes themselves, through their music, much better than I ever could. Track number seven on Red Tiger’s outstanding new release “Evolution” is entitled “Noise & Rhythm”. This is a rather spot-on description of this quartet’s
music, approach, and attitude. An urgent, impassioned wall of sound combined with groove, melody, and intelligent lyrics. And the end result is quite impressive and thoroughly enjoyable. Red Tiger is Alejandro Figueroa/drums & vocals, Jahaziel Ramirez/ bass, Alexis Perez/lead guitar, and Red Latu/ vocals & guitar. The band fits neatly into the ‘hard rock’ category, but to simply label them as such is to sell this unit short. There is a depth to their music that separates them from the pack. Their songs are (mostly) heavy, and their style is aggressive. But Red Tiger is not reckless, pointless, or heavy just for heaviness’ sake. They are calculating and deliberate. Their arrangements are thoughtful and polished, and the album as a whole (fourteen tracks) is well balanced. You have several fist-in-the-air rock anthems (“Never Going Away”, “Rock Nation”, “Be Proud”), a couple of deep thinkers (“Evolution”, “Tomorrow Might Never Come”), a good ol’ fashioned power ballad (“Until We Meet Again”), and a genuine he/she duet (the excellent “Foolish Heart” with guest vocalist Caroline). While comparisons are always dicey, Red Tiger reminds me of a modern version of Riot: heavy but not obnoxiously heavy, melodic but not sappy melodic. The production on this effort fits the material perfectly. This is not a glossy presentation. Recorded at Wire Road Studios in Houston TX by Andy Bradley and James Kelley, “Evolution” is raw and powerful, exuding a live performance vibe that I have to believe was very intentional. All of these elements combine to create an exhilarating listen. If this offering is any indication, the future is a bright one for Red Tiger. Rock on, boys.

Tonight was certainly a lot of fun for us. We’re at Fitzgerald’s for the Red Tiger CD Release Party for their new album, Evolution. These guys have been on our radar for quite a while now and we’ve been to nearly every show they’ve performed in Houston. This band is definitely living the ‘American Dream’. They migrated to Houston from Puerto Rico a couple of years ago to get more involved in the Music Business in the United States and they’ve really been making the grade. Their blend of Hard Rock and Melodic Rock have certainly set them apart from the rest of the pack around town. Their new album was recorded at Wire Road Studios utilizing the amazing talents of Andy Bradley to engineer their project and they now have something new that they can really be proud of. Their show tonight at Fitzgerald’s was packed with fans and family alike and their performance this night was nothing less than stupendous. It literally was a ‘great’ show. Their new material that they presented to us from the stage was just staggering and totally off the hook. For those of you that didn’t make it to this show, we’ve got three videos from their performance that you really have to check out. We’re sure that once you see these videos, you’re going to be putting Red Tiger on your list of bands to see in person. Congratulations on a great product guys! We just love it! You can check their show out now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net

We’re at The Last Concert Cafe tonight, you’re home for great Mexican cuisine and live music. Tonight on stage they have another one of our favorite acts, The New Offenders. We’ve been fans of Hunter McKithan’s different bands over the years and this is his best lineup yet. The New Offenders know a little something about overcoming adversity via hard work and self-dedication. This Southern Roots Rock quintet based in Houston, TX has chosen to travel the grassroots route. Taking care of all business and creative ventures in-house, the group has been rewarded with gigs in regional staples such as Luckebach, TX and the main stage at Gruene Hall to Houston’s top circuit venues like House of Blues and White Oak Music Hall. Pair that with landing some support slots for the likes of national and regional touring acts such as Aaron Lewis, Fuel, The Cadillac Three, Uncle Lucius and Honey Island Swamp Band and you’ve got a recipe for growth and maturation. Tonight’s performance was another tour-de-force for the band as the kept the audience just glued to their seats soaking up every bit of the music they performed. I was equally impressed, as usual, of their performance tonight. For those of you who haven’t seen them before, the two videos we have for you on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television is a definite The Big Easy is ‘must see’. In fact, you really must see these two videos right now, so Houston’s “House of start watching. Here they are performing “Ohio” by Crosby, Stills & Mixology”! This night was really a treat for me. I got to go to Sambuca to see my favorite saxophone player, Evelyn Rubio. Evelyn is just the finest of the finest. She sings like a nightingale, and plays the saxophone with the best of taste. It also doesn’t hurt that she’s simply gorgeous. When she performs, she does it with utmost professionalism, and she always has a great band backing her up. Tonight’s show at Sambuca was fantastic and certainly a lot of fun. I could go on and on, but if I did, I’d sound too much like a fan, so I won’t. Suffice it to say, if you’re into a little Latin music, R&B, and Blues, as well as being a fan of the saxophone, then you really need to see her perform. I love it. At any rate, I’ve got three videos from this show for you to check out on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television, and if you’re not a fan now, you probably will be once you’ve seen these. I hope you enjoy these performances as much as I did.

Tonight we saw a band that really blew us away. It was the Travis Larson Band at Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar. I’ll tell you, the new folks at Dan Electro’s really know how to pick great acts for this club. The Travis Larson Band was phenomenal. The soulful fury of this talented three-piece, the Travis Larson Band, washes the stink of the recording industry’s lame offerings out into the gutters while unleashing it’s unique brand of instrumental rock fusion (think of a musical stew mixing a thick brown Rush gravy with big hearty chunks of Steve Morse and a dash of Jeff Beck). Comprised of Travis Larson (guitar), Jennifer Young (bass), and Dale Moon (drums), TLB’s complicated phrasing, impossible timing, and seamless flow cause some to suspect that the band must surely operate from only one, albeit enormous, brain. Their performance tonight at Dan Electro’s was nothing less than inspiring. We felt real fortunate to have attended this show. It’s one of those shows that you just can’t bear to leave, and no matter how long it is, it’s just not long enough. We really want to share this great band with you, so we’ve got three performances from this night to share with you on HMNTV Houston Music News Television, so we really hope you’ll take the time Some of the best lo- to watch all three. It will be well worth your time. Thanks to John, cal and national touring Scott, and April from Dan Electro’s for bringing in such a fine act.

Both of these two local Blues Greats put on excellent shows. Steve performed some of our favorites along with a couple of songs from his new album, “Just Waitin,” and Trudy Lynn played a good helpin’ of those Blues Classics we love to hear her perform. Two really fine evenings. Happy Birthday Steve and Trudy!

Nothing Perform at The Secret Group September 27 Relapse Records recording artists, Nothing will be performing this month at The Secret Group on Thursday, September 27th. Nothing return with their third installment, “Dance On The Blacktop.” The next chapter of NOTHING’s story pulls from all corners of life in its contents. Stories of self loathing, self destruction, and a general disdain for humanity and its, “insignificant” role in Domenic Palermo’s vision of the universe are met with his poised amusement and tranquil hysteria being one himself. All of this told through the eyes of a recently diagnosed Palermo suggesting he is dealing with the early stages of CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy), a neurodegenerative disease found in people with serious head injuries. And as they packed themselves in a coffin-sized NYC apartment for 23 days to demo songs it became clear that the ripple effect left upon his psyche from dealing with these newfound symptoms would leave its mark on the material. The story of NOTHING began in 2010 with a simple demo tape in a Philadelphia apartment. The project, which started as a therapeutic outlet solely for Palermo, snowballed into a polished machine with a chance meeting with guitarist/singer Brandon Setta and the eventual addition of Kyle Kimball on drums. Sharing a musical bond, the trio weaved melancholic tales of imprisonment, broken bonds and lost youth as the centerpiece for their 2014 debut, Guilty Of

TIRED OF MISSING HAPPY HOUR SOMEWHERE ELSE? Everything. The world post Guilty served as the focus for the entirety of 2016’s Tired Of Tomorrow - painting a Schopenhauerian tragedy in vivid color and sound. While sticking to the sound that has now become their own, you can still hear the band testing their boundaries and creating a plethora of genre-bending, yet widely accessible songs. As a band, NOTHING manage to muster a smile in the face of the illogical, and there is no denying that Dance On The Blacktop is a brave walk into the absurdity. Dance On The Blacktop was released on Relapse Records August 24th. There will be a limited run of a 2xLP, deluxe version. The core album will be on LP1, pressed on tri-colored vinyl with an exclusive second 12" picture disc featuring 4 bonus tracks. The album includes artwork directed by Mark Mccoy (Youth Attack Records, Charles Bronson), Domenic Palermo and shot by Ryan Lowry.
Farewell To Fear Perform at Proof Rooftop Lounge Up and coming rockers, Farewell To Fear will be performing this month at Proof Rooftop Lounge along with Hinder on September 27th.. If you want a chance to see this hot new band, you can get tickets on Proof’s website. Last month Farewell To Fear appeared in Houston as the opening act for Candlebox at the House Of Blues. From what we’ve been told, the audience loved them at that show. Farewell to Fear has been getting quite a reputation lately as one hot band to check out. Their new single is titled “Underneath My Skin,” and their new album, “Voices,” dropped 5/18/18 and it debuted beautifully inside the Top 30 on Amazon Movers and Shakers chart. It was exclusively debuted on Bravewords. It currently has 40,000 streams on Spotify in just 3 months. It has also reached #29 on peak week on Billboard Mainstream Rock Indicator Charts and on Foundations SMR charts jumped to #11. They have also received a total of 971 spins at radio peak week and they broke the Top 20 Greatest Gainers @ #5 right behind 21 Pilots. Their first single “Diamonds” from their debut album, “New Blood” (SMG/ADA) (produced by Brett Hesla of Dark New Day & Creed) was aired on Howard Stern, (and is still the only song he’s ever played all the way through). It has ranked them as high as #1 on Amazon and #7 on I-Tunes and garnered over 1,294,000 plays on Spotify. The album had a total of 3 singles that broke #1 on SiriusXM Octane’s Big Uns chart. The band released a new single on YouTube called “Waiting for Sunrise” with the help of producer Damien Starkey (former front man of Burn Season and Guitarist for Puddle of
CHAPULTEPEC LUPITA
Mudd) and A&R insight from Matt Pinfield in November 2017. It blew up YouTube with over 817,000 views and was aired on the video playlist in 4000 gyms across the country from Nov-Jan. Underneath my Skin was featured on the main page of iTunes-Canada and gaining momentum every week. It now has over 103,000 views on YouTube in just a few months. The single was also added to the playlist of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Motivational Workout list on Spotify which has 20,000 listeners. As of a few weeks ago we got added to the HIIT playlist which has 26,000 listeners. They now have over 24,000 monthly subscribers on Spotify and as of June 11, they were the #1 most requested single on New Visions Radio Network in Massachusetts. As you can see, these guys have been racking up quite a record for themselves. Be sure to see them this mont at Proof Rooftop Lounge on September 27th.

We dropped by Alex Lozano’s Badassary Festival at Acadia Live this past month, and it was just that, Bad Ass! If featured 13 bands on two stages and let me tell you, all the bands we saw were really Bad Ass! The show was a blast and one of the best times we had all month. The show was hosted by Houston’s own Michael Kennedy, who did a splendid job hosting it. Congrats Michael on a great job. It featured bands like Bad Hatter, Dr. Sleep, Slight Chance, Kicking Clouds, Big Bad Lion, Joe Cain, Superna, Surrender Stella, and Zync, just to name a few. Just to show you what we mean, we’ve got two videos from New Orleans’ Zync for you to check out. This all-instrumental three piece outfit from New Orleans blew us away. They were fantastic. Zync features guitarist Steve Friedt, bassist Mike Spurlock, and drummer Rob Santora. We’d definitely like to see Zync return to Houston soon. They really put on a a good show. If you’re in the New Orleans area and you’re a singer, you might want to give these guys a call. They’re entertaining the idea of adding a lead singer to their lineup. In the meantime, they really kick ass like they are. Like we said, we’ve got two videos from these guys for you to check out right now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net and hey Alex, great job. The ever popular Alan Haynes takes control of the stage at Katie’s in Bacliff. Alan is one of the most phenomenal guitarists that Texas has to offer. His shows are more than just a show, they’re a ‘happening’. His extended solos just drive the people crazy and tonight at Katies was definitely a tour-de-force for Alan. He kept the crowd there screamin’ for more. And look, it’s Katie’s owner, Bob Emmons on bass. Bob’s a phenomenal player also. Whether it’s guitar or bass, Bob does and extraordinary job. We’re definitely happy we could make it out to Katie’s this night to see this performance.

When we dropped by Vollie Ray’s Circus, we were treated to a fine performane by and up and coming band of young kids, still in their teens. The band is Promising Lies, and they performed songs from Journey (“Lights”), Sublime (“Santeria”) and even Led Zeppelin. It really was amazing how good this young band was. It really give you hope for the future of today’s local musicians. Keep it up kids.
Silver Wing put on a fine show this month at the Back Porch in La Marque. The band sounded real good tonight as they really varied up their repertoire performing Country music on up to some of the most obsucre rock tunes you’ve ever heard. While we were there they performed Billy Currington’s “Let Me Down Easy,” Tanya Tucker’s “Texas When I Die,” Bill Wither’s “Ain’ No Sunshine,” The Tragically Hip’s “New Orleans Is Sinking,” and even a little “Boot Scoot Boogie.”

Tonight’s show at The Concert Pub North was definitely a lot of fun for us. It features Houston’s own ‘Kings of Heavy Metal’, Helstar. Helstar is Houston’s oldest rockin’ Metal Group. They started out in 1984 and the band still features two of the band’s original members, guitarist Larry Barragan and lead singer, James Rivera. Without a doubt, this is our favorite Houston Metal Act, hands down! We always go see them when we get a chance, which unfortunately is not often enough. They’re not the type of band that performs every weekend in some club. When they get together, it’s an experience... it’s a happening. They’re the ones who put Metal on the Map in Houston. Tonight’s show at the Concert Pub North was a helluva lot of fun. They actually opened for former Anthrax lead singer, Neil Turbin, who in all respects, should have opened for them. In fact, when their set was over, a great deal of the crowd took to the doors. Believe me, there’s nothing out there like Houston’s own Helstar! But don’t take our word for it (we use that term a lot), check ‘em out for yourself on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net. They were great! In fact, we want you to start watching them right now. Stop what you’re doing and start watching right now.... Yeah, that’s more than just a suggestion... THAT’S AN ORDER! We’ve got two videos for you to check out right now!

This Month Icons At Badassery would like to honor George Foreman George Edward Foreman (born January 10, 1949 In Texas) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1969 to 1977, and from 1987 to 1997. Nicknamed “Big George”, he is a two-time world heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medallist. Outside the sport he is an ordained minister, author, and entrepreneur. After a troubled childhood Foreman took up amateur boxing and won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics. Having turned professional the next year, he won the world heavyweight title with a secondround knockout of then-undefeated Joe Frazier in 1973. Two successful title defenses were made before Foreman’s first professional loss to Muhammad Ali in “The Rumble in the Jungle” in 1974. Unable to secure another title opportunity, Foreman retired after a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977. Following what he referred to as a religious epiphany, Foreman became an ordained Christian minister. Ten years later he announced a comeback and, in 1994 at age 45, he regained a portion of the heavyweight championship by knocking out 27-year-old Michael Moorer to win the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal titles. Foreman remains the oldest world heavyweight champion in history, and the second oldest in any weight class after Bernard Hopkins (at light heavyweight). He retired in 1997 at the age of 48, with a final record of 76 wins (68 knockouts) and 5 losses. Foreman has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame and International Boxing
Hall of Fame. The International Boxing Research Organization rates Foreman as the eighth greatest heavyweight of all time. In 2002, he was named one of the 25 greatest fighters of the past 80 years by The Ring magazine. The Ring ranked him as the ninth greatest puncher of all time. He was a ringside analyst for HBO’s boxing coverage for twelve years until 2004.Outside boxing, he is a successful entrepreneur and known for his promotion of the George Foreman Grill, which has sold over 100 million units worldwide. In 1999, he sold the naming rights to the grill for $138 million. When Foreman came back from retirement, he argued that his success was due to his healthy eating. He was approached by Salton, Inc., which was looking for a spokesperson for its fat-reducing grill. As of 2009, the George Foreman Grill has sold over 100 million units. Although Foreman has never confirmed exactly how much he has earned from the endorsement, it is known that Salton paid him $138 million in 1999, for the right to use his name. Prior to that, he was paid about 40% of the profits on each grill sold (earning him $4.5 million a month in payouts at its peak), so it is estimated he has made a total of over $200 million from the endorsement, substantially more than he earned as a boxer. Recently, Foreman has capitalized on the success obtained with the Foreman Grill to endorse InventHelp; the company behind INPEX (Invention and New Product Exposition), America’s largest invention trade show. It is with great honor to entitle Texas’s own George Foreman as an Icon At Badassery. Thank you for all your hard work!

Well, you could have knocked me over. These releases sounded utterly fantastic. The remastering work on them made them sound fuller and clearer to me and I could definitely tell the difference between the original pressings and the new ones. On top of that, the two-disc format allowed for better sound quality as well. With the songs spead out over two discs, it really improved
valleys in them that these will never have. Like I said before, these recordings sound fantastic, and if you’re a U2 fan, please make sure to go out and get them. You really need to add these to your collection. I’d like to thank UMC/Island/Interscope for rereleasing these gems and giving me an excuse to go out and get a new turntable. I’d also like to thank some of the people behind the scenes. A special thanks goes out to the following: Scott Sedillo at Bernie Grundman Mastering for the Remastering Engineering; Declan Gaffney, Audio Master Transfer Director; Director of Production, Nadine King, Project Production Manager on behalf of Is-
the quality of the recordings. The original albums had the songs jammed into two sides in on one disc so during the pressing process they had to make certain concessions which no doubt affected the quality back then. The only drawback was that I had to get up and flip the records more often, but hell, I could use the exercise. As we said before, the albums are pressed on 180gm vinyl. This makes the album thicker and heavier with less chance of warping in the future. Let me tell you, a few of my old vinyl releases seem to have little peaks and
land Records / UMC, Lisa Power; and Archive Manager, Rebecca Coffey, not to mention Meg McLean Corso for sending these out to me. Additional thanks go out to Audio-Technica for making my listening experience really special. And here’s a little information about the albums themselves: Achtung Baby [2LP] - Recorded over six months at Hansa Studio in Berlin and Windmill Lane in Dublin, Achtung Baby is U2’s seventh studio album. Produced by long time U2 collaborators, Daniel Lanois and
UMC/Island/Interscope Reissues 3 U2 Albums On Vinyl UMC/Island/Interscope has reissued 3 titles from the bands’ catalog on vinyl LP. That’s records for those of you who have forgotten about the format, which has really taken off again after being sidelined by CDs years ago. The LPs were released at the end of July on the 27th and feature Achtung Baby (1991), Zooropa (1993) and The Best of 1980-1990 (1998). All the albums were remastered and pressed on 180gm black vinyl and the songs were spread across 2 LP discs (records). Each of the album’s artwork was based on the original pressings, and included a lyric sheet. There’s nothing like being able to read the lyrics when you listen to the songs. Each of the reissues also comes with a special download card in case you decide you want to download the digital tracks for playing in your car or on mobile device. When my vinyl releases came in, I was really jazzed about it. U2 has always been one of my favorite acts. So for this auspicious release, I decided to go out of my way and really make this a happening and make sure I got the most out of it. I proceeded to go out and buy me a new Audio-Technica turntable to play these on, so I could get the maximum effect out of it. I’d been using the same turntable for over 40 years, and I was sure they would sound better on something newer. After all, technology has gotten better over the years.
Brian Eno with Steve Lillywhite, Achtung Baby was engineered by Flood and led by The Fly, and also featured four other singles, ‘Mysterious Ways’, ‘One’, ‘Even Better Than The Real Thing’ and ‘Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses’. Released to widespread critical acclaim in November 1991, the record topped charts around the world, and saw the band take home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. Zooropa [2LP] - U2’s eighth studio album was released in July 1993 and hit Number 1 in the UK, USA, Ireland, Japan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Sweden, Austria, France, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. Produced by Flood, Brian Eno and The Edge, the 10 tracks on Zooropa - inspired by the band’s experiences on the Zoo TV Tour – include singles ‘Numb’, ‘Lemon’ and ‘Stay (Faraway, So Close!)’ and were recorded in just 6 weeks in early 1993. And the 1994 Grammy Awards saw the band take home the prize for Best Alternative Music Album. And to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album’s release, this vinyl reissue will see Zooropa released in a 2LP format for the first time ever, to include two mixes of ‘Lemon’ and ‘Numb’. The Best Of 1980 – 1990 [2LP] - U2’s first compilation release, The Best Of 19801990 went straight to Number 1 in the UK, Ireland, Canada and around the world on its original release in November 1998. The 16-track collection features seminal songs from early in the band’s career, as well as many of their biggest global hits. # The 2LP format includes the track ‘One Tree Hill’ from The Joshua Tree, only available on vinyl formats of this compilation.
