Experience Hendrix Tour Returns To Houston Hailed by critics and fans alike as the ‘Guitar Event Of The Year,’ the multi-artist celebration known as the Experience Hendrix Tour is set to return this October. These special concert performances present legendary artists who join together to pay homage to Jimi Hendrix. This next edition of the Experience Hendrix Tour will encompass 18 performances this coming October playing in cities along the west coast and southwestern states. Their Houston performance will be October 20th at Revention Music Center. This star studded tour will feature Buddy Guy, Billy Cox (from Jimi Hendrix Experience / Band Of Gypsys), Joe Satriani, Taj Mahal, Jonny Lang, Dweezil Zappa, Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Johnson, dUg Pinnick (from King’s X), Chris Layton (from Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble), Mato Nanji (from Indigenous), Todd Park Mohr (from Big Head Todd & the Monsters), Ana Popovic, Kenny Aronoff, Calvin Cooke (from The Slide Brothers), Chuck Campbell (from The Slide Brothers), Henri Brown, and Kevin McCormick. (* Artist line-up is subject to change without notice.) “The tour is more than a series of concerts,” Experience Hendrix LLC CEO Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s stepsister, said in a statement. “It’s a celebration of a man whose amazing gift changed the face of music and
informed an entire culture. His influences were varied and diverse. And this year we’re shining a light on that diversity with artists who represent it across cultures and who also share a love for Jimi and his music. It’s exciting to be able to honor Jimi’s enduring legacy in this way.” Since its inception as a single tribute show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, the tour has become an anticipated fan experience. Joe Satriani tells us that “The Experience Hendrix Tours are always so much fun. The camaraderie between all the musicians on the show is magical. I’m so excited to play some deep Hendrix tracks in a power trio setting with [King’s X bassist and vocalist] dUg Pinnick and Kenny Aronoff!” The Experience Hendrix Tour offers fans a rare opportunity to see critically lauded musicians performing timeless Jimi Hendrix classics such as “Purple Haze,” “Foxey Lady,” “Voodoo Child” and “Little Wing” in a unique setting. This latest edition of the tour will feature guitar wizard Joe Satriani and the triumphant return of blues legend Buddy Guy, as well as Dweezil Zappa, Jonny Lang and Eric Johnson. Mainstays Billy Cox, Slide Brothers and Doyle Bramhall II will also be on board for the duration. Guitarist/singer Buddy Guy’s record-

ing career began in earnest in the 1950s when he migrated from Louisiana to be part of the burgeoning Chicago blues scene. Jimi Hendrix, whose own music is firmly rooted in the blues, was heavily influenced by the work of Guy, who is six years Hendrix’s senior. The two became friends, even sharing the stage together. This October will mark Buddy Guy’s ninth Experience Hendrix Tour. Always a crowd favorite, the polka dot-adorned 82-year-old (83 when the tour starts) is looking forward to paying tribute to his own “buddy.” 15-time Grammy Award nominee Joe Satriani, who recently came off the eastern leg of the Experience Hendrix Tour, will be back for the October 1 kickoff in Jimi’s hometown of Seattle. Notable for being the biggest-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time, Satriani came to the forefront with the release of his 1987 solo album Surfing with the Alien. He has worked with Mick Jagger, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult and the fabled Spinal Tap and is a member of rock super group Chickenfoot. In keeping with the spirit of the Experience Hendrix Tour, Satriani has formed an all-star trio especially for the occasion, calling upon bassist and vocalist dUg Pinnick from King’s X, and prolific sideman Kenny Aronoff on drums to serve as his rhythm section. “The Experience Hendrix Tours are always so much fun,” Satriani told Billboard. “The camaraderie between all the musicians on the show is magical. I’m so excited to play some deep Hendrix tracks in a power trio setting with dUg Pinnick and Kenny Aronoff!” Billy Cox, bassist for both Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, has been the backbone
of the tour since its inception, providing a spiritual connection between the past and present. Rounding out the lineup are drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chris Layton of Steve Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, as well as Mato Nanji of Indigenous, Henri Brown and bassist Kevin McCormick. “There’s something so special about playing Seattle.Author Thomas Wolfe wrote, ‘You can’t go home again,’ but that’s definitely not the case with Jimi,” said his sister Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. “His music is like a beacon that always brings him back to Seattle, where it all began. Celebrating his legacy here brings it full circle. Even the musicians play stronger, as if they’re channeling the vibe of Jimi. We love Seattle, it’s home . . . it’s family.” Critics have been gushing about the Experience Hendrix Tour since its inception. “Hendrix’s classic songs came one after the next and the electric licks were delivered by a who’s who of modern guitar greats,” noted Loudwire, which went on to call it “the guitar tour of the year.” Charleston City Paper stated, “Jimi’s spirit and music could not have been honored more.” “At the very end of the night, all the participants came back out for a final bow,” Consequence of Sound observed this past March. “And one thing you couldn’t help but realize by this point – the music of Jimi Hendrix will seemingly live on forever, and continue to inspire future generations.” The 2019 Experience Hendrix Tour is sponsored by Fender Musical Instruments, the renowned manufacturer of Jimi’s iconic Stratocaster guitars, along with Dunlop, Hal Leonard, and Axe Heaven.

Bush / Live The Alt-Imate Tour BUSH and +LIVE+ are joining forces for The ALT-IMATE Tour, a highpowered co-headline summer run that will see these two iconic acts celebrating the 25thanniversary of their respective landmark albums Sixteen Stone and Throwing Copper. Produced by Live Nation, this hits-packed road show will hit Houston ‘s Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Friday, October 25th. Our Lady Peace will provide direct support for the trip down nostalgia lane. The Canadian rockers will be toasting a 25th anniversary of their own, as their debut LP, Naveed, also dropped in 1994. “We are thrilled to be touring this summer with LIVE,” says BUSH frontman Gavin Rossdale. “The wealth and depth of songs from both bands should provide a great night of music. Looking forward to seeing you all this summer.” “Bush is a great band and Gavin is a super passionate singer and performer. I’m really looking forward to spending the summer with them,” said +LIVE+ frontman Ed Kowalczyk. “I know the fans are going to get one hell of a show.” Released in 1994 and fueled by blockbuster No. 1 singles “Lightning Crashes,” “Selling The Drama,” “Glycerine,” “Comedown” and “Machinehead,” breakthrough albums Throwing Copper and Sixteen Stone sold more than 20 million albums combined. Both were spotlighted on Rolling Stone’s list, “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative’s Greatest Year,” and remain timeless favorites, thanks to radio staples that include “Everything Zen,” “Little Things,” “I Alone” and “All Over You.” “It’s an amazing feeling to know that these songs still resonate so profoundly with people,” says Kowalczyk. “And I still totally get off on celebrating this music with them. With Throwing Copper, we were taking on big things with a big sound. Love, truth, birth, death, philosophy, religion, spirituality...we were asking the perennial questions and poking around for answers with this massive and dynamic sound. It attracted people from all over the world. We were inviting them to imagine that rock and roll could be a valid forum for exploring these types of things...we built it and they came.” “Sixteen Stone propelled us onto the musical landscape,” says Rossdale. “Those songs have found a way into the soundtrack of people’s lives and that is the highest compliment available. We’ve continued to make music that resonates with people.” “So thrilled that the ‘Alt-Imate Tour’ is extending into October! From the first concert with BUSH and OUR LADY PEACE, we knew that this show was something special,” says LIVE frontman Ed Kowalczyk. “The fans have been so supportive and are obviously sharing our excitement! See you on the road!” Released in 1994 and fueled by blockbuster No. 1 singles “Lightning Crashes”, “Selling The Drama”, “Glycerine”, “Comedown” and “Machinehead”, breakthrough albums “Throwing Copper” and “Sixteen Stone” sold more than 20 million albums combined. Both were spotlighted on Rolling Stone’s list “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative’s Greatest Year” and remain timeless favorites, thanks to radio staples that include “Everything Zen”, “Little Things”, “I Alone” and “All Over You”. Two decades later, BUSH has another radio hit on its hands with “Bullet Holes”, which is the end track in the blockbuster film “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”. “Bullet Holes” was produced by Tyler Bates and is the first single from BUSH’s upcoming album, “The Mind Plays Tricks On You”. Coming off a sold-out European tour, LIVE returns to the U.S. with new single “Hold Me Up” — originally recorded for “Throwing Copper”. “Hold Me Up” is marching up the rock radio charts and is part of the band’s freshly released “Throwing Copper” 25th-anniversary deluxe package (out now on Radioactive/MCA/UMe). LIVE is also celebrating the anniversary of “Throwing Copper” with a toast of its first craft beer aptly named “Throwing Copper Ale”

Tool Perform At Toyota Center Tool has recently released their new album Fear Inoculum. We don’t need to go into just how staggeringly mindblowing it is, but we should tell you just where you can finally here the new songs live. Fear Inoculum is Tool’s first album in 13 years. As the common expression goes, Tool have been ‘taking their sweet time’ with releasing the follow-up to ‘10,000 Days’. For patient metal-heads, it couldn’t drop soon enough Tool have been playing the new tracks “Invincible” and “Descending” as part of their recent summer tour,. For Houston audiences, you’ll be able to hear them this month when Tool rolls into Houston on October 27th. Fear Inoculum is the fifth studio album by American rock band Tool. It was released on August 30, 2019, through Tool Dissectional, Volcano Entertainment, and RCA Records. It is the band’s first album in thirteen years, due to creative, personal, and legal issues band members encountered since the release of 10,000 Days. The album was released to critical acclaim, with reviewers generally agreeing that the band had successfully refined their established sound. The album topped the US Billboard 200 albums chart, their third album in a row to do so, selling over 270,000 album-equivalent units. The album topped five other national album charts in its opening week as well. Fear Inoculum received acclaim from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 82 out of 100, which indicates “universal acclaim” based on 21 reviews. NME gave Fear Inoculum a perfect score, singling out Keenan’s work as “perhaps the best collection of vocals that singer Keenan has ever committed to tape, with many lines exiting the vocalist’s lips closer to the honey daubed croon of Keenan’s ... A Perfect Circle than the coarse rasp of yore” and concluding that the album was “worth the wait”. The Boston Globe agreed with the sentiment, praising the album for being “an 80-minute prog-metal fever dream that proves the band is back and better than ever.” The Atlantic praised the album for being as good as prior releases, describing it as “precise and devastating as it has always been” containing a “nearly unhandle-able amount of that Tool feeling.” Spin praised the album “continu[ing] to blur the lines between art, psychedelia, alt metal, and prog rock with undiminished curiosity and skill” while “remain[ing] defiantly contrary to the auto-tuned, digitally-quantized world in which we now live.” Loudersound (formerly Metal Hammer) praised the album’s density and layer of sound, and singling out Keenan’s “grandiosity” and “emotional” vocals and the album’s heaviest track, “7empest”, as album highlights. Wall of Sound and Loudwire also singled out the track as one of the best of the band’s career, with the former concluding that with the album on a whole, the band had “not so much reinvented the wheel, as they have refined everything about this band that makes them so special in the first place.” AllMusic noted that all four band members sounded like they were performing at the peak of their career so far. Clash felt the album was a good entry point for new fans if they had patience for the album’s long song lengths, which they praised, but conceded were not in line with musical trends. Tool’s greatest breakthrough was to meld dark underground metal with the ambition of art rock. Although Metallica wrote their multi-sectioned, layered songs as if they were composers, they kept their musical attack ferociously at street level. Tool didn’t. They embraced the artsy, bohemian preoccupations of Jane’s Addiction while they simultaneously paid musical homage to the relentlessly bleak visions of grindcore, death metal, and thrash. Even with their post-punk influences, they executed their music with the aesthetic of prog rock, alternating between long, detailed instrumental interludes and lyrical rants in their songs. Tool had a knack for conveying the strangled, oppressive angst that the alternative nation of the early ’90s claimed as its own, so Tool were able to slip into the definition of alternative rock during the post-Nirvana era, landing a slot on the third Lollapalooza tour in 1993, which helped their first full-length debut album, Undertow, rocket to platinum status. By the time the band delivered its belated follow-up, Ænima, in 1996, alternative rock had lost its grip on mainstream America, and Tool’s audience had shaped up as essentially metal-oriented, which meant that the group and the record didn’t capture as big an audience as their first album, despite debuting at number two on the charts. After a co-headlining slot with Korn on Lollapalooza ’97 wrapped up, Tool remained on the road, supporting Ænima until well into the next year.

The performances were professional and the music was dead on. The set we saw was fantastic. These guys just hit the ball out of the ballpark with this performance. The folks in the audience were all stoked with the show. We heard nothing buy high praise from the other patrons there. They played all the Bad Company hits. There’s just nothing like a great evening of Bad Company music and the Concert Pub North really delivered the goods this night. The Concert Pub North is your one-stop shop for great tribute music. Tonight we’re at The BFE Rock Club for John Janatsch’s Birthday Bash. On stage right now is Para Bellum. This band has been causing quite a stir in Houston and gaining an excellent reputation about putting on great shows with a lot of energy and some wonderful original music. Their hard rock / alternative sound definitely sets them apart from a lot of the bands on the scene now. The band is comprised of some really excellent musicians. Lead vocalist Kat Freeman is quite impressive and has a distinct vocal style all her own. Guitarist Dakota Rice appears to be very versatile and seems to be able to definitely hold his own on stage. He really knows how to lay down some tasty licks. And talk about a great rhythm section... bassist Manny Herrada and drummer Kevin Mason seem as if they are joined at the hips. They compliment each other beautifully and created one of the best rhythm sections this town has to offer. Tonight’s show at The BFE Rock Club was excellent. They put on a spectacular show and really show how a cohesive band knows how to perform. We’ve got a couple of videos from their set to share with you right now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television and you can start watching them now on our YouTube channel, Houstonmusicnewstv1. Johnny Rivers Performs at The Arena Theatre Poneering singer, songwriter and producer and two-time GRAMMY® winner Johnny Rivers will be bringing his final tour to Houston’s Arena Theatre this November 2nd. Be there as this legend performs selections from a remarkable career of more than 60 years. Johnny is responsible for some of the most enduring hits of all time. Be there as this legend performs selections from a remarkable career of more than 60 years, including: Poor Side of Town, Memphis, Secret Agent Man, Baby I Need Your Lovin’, Seventh Son, Mountain of Love, The Tracks of My Tears, Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu, Maybelline, Summer Rain, Midnight Special, Swayin’ to the Music (Slow Dancin’), and many more great hits. Johnny Rivers is a unique figure in the history of rock music. On the most obvious level, he was a rock star of the 1960s and a true rarity as a white American singer/guitarist who made a name for himself as a straightahead rock & roller during the middle of that decade. Just as important behind the scenes, his recordings and their success led to the launching, directly and indirectly, of at least three record labels and a dozen other careers whose influence extended into the 1970s, 1980s, and beyond. Johnny Rivers (born John Henry Ramistella on November 7, 1942 in New York City) is an American rock and roll singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He was versatile enough to do folk songs, blues, covers of old-time Rock n’ roll songs, and some original material, all of them in his own unique style. Rivers’s greatest success came in the mid and late 1960s with a string of hit songs (including “Seventh Son,” “Poor Side of Town” and “Secret Agent Man”)

but he has continued to record and perform to the present. In 1960, Rivers met fellow Louisianan, James Burton, the guitar player for Ricky Nelson. Burton later recommended one of Rivers’s songs to Nelson, who went on to record it. In 1961, Rivers went to Los Angeles to meet Nelson, and ended up relocating there, working as a song writer and studio musician. In 1963, Rivers’s big break came when he temporarily filled in for a jazz combo at Bill Gazzari’s night club; the temporary gig became long-term due to positive customer response. In 1964, Elmer Valentine then gave Rivers a one-year contract to open his new club, Whisky a Go Go, on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. The Whisky opened three days before The Beatles released “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and the British Invasion knocked almost every American artist off the top of the charts. But Rivers was so popular, producer Lou Adler decided to issue Johnny Rivers Live At The Whiskey A Go Go. The live album reached #12 on the charts and the single “Memphis” (a Chuck Berry cover) reached #2. Rivers made the successful transition from nightclub entertainer to chart-busting pop singer and had created the Go Go sound, part of a scene which included Go-Go dancers. Into 1965, Rivers continued to record mostly live, Go Go style records including “Maybellene” (another Berry cover), which he followed “Mountain of Love”, “Midnight Special”, “Seventh Son” (written by Willie Dixon) e “Where Have All The Flowers Gone” (with Pete Seeger’s), all of which were hits. Rivers wanted to try something differ-
ent and adopted a more idiosyncratic approach as from 1966. Characterized by his smooth, soulful voice, he produced hit portrayals as “Poor Side Of Town”, which would be his biggest hit ever and his only number one record. Into another hit was “Secret Agent Man”, the theme from Secret Agent television series (written by P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri). He also started own record company, Soul City Records, where he won a Grammy Award as the producer of the 5th Dimension, which eventually recorded “Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In” and “Wedding Bell Blues”, two number one hits on Rivers’ label. Johnny is also credited with giving songwriter Jimmy Webb a major break when they recorded Webb’s song “Up, Up, and Away”. James Hendricks, one of the artists of that signed with Soul City, wrote “Summer Rain”, a song that Rivers recorded and turned a hit. Johnny Rivers continued to record more hits, including “Baby I Need Your Lovin’” and “The Tracks of My Tears” (cover of The Miracles), both top 10 in 1967. In 1968, Rivers released what many fans consider his best album, Realization, a number five album on the LP charts. The album was evocative of the
psychedelic influences of the time and marked a subtle change in his musical direction, with more thoughtful types of songs, included such ballads as “Going Back to Big Sur”. In the 1970s, Rivers continued to record more songs and albums which were a success with music critics, but did not sell as well as some of his earlier hits. One of these albums, “L.A. Reggae” in 1972, reached the LP charts as a result of the top 10 “Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu” (a cover of Huey Smith & the Clowns). Anothers hits that time were “Blue Suede Shoes” (a cover of Carl Perkins), in 1973, which would reach the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Help Me Rhonda”, in 1975 - a cover of The Beach Boys on which Brian Wilson helped with backup vocals. His last entry on the charts was “Swayin’ to the Music (Slow Dancing)”, a top ten hit in 1977. Rivers continued recording into the ‘80’s, although his recording career wound down somewhat. In spite of his music hasn’t reached the best seller charts for quite a while, Rivers is still touring, doing 50 to 60 shows a year, increasingly returning to the blues that inspired him initially. In 1998], Rivers reactivated his Soul City imprint and released Last Train to Memphis, his first new studio album in 15 years. In early 2000, Johnny recorded with Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, and Paul McCartney on a tribute album dedicated to Buddy Holly’s backup band, “The Crickets”. In all, Rivers had 9 top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and 17 in the top 40 from 1964 to 1977. In total, he has sold well over 25 million records.

Heapin’ Helpin” Performs at The Last Concert Cafe Tonight we dropped by The Last Concert Cafe to see Houston rockers, Heapin’ Helpin’. The last time we got to see them was a couple of years ago, so when we heard they were going to be at the Last Concert Cafe, we dropped by to check out the show. Overtime we’ve seen them the show has been great, and tonight’s show was no exception. It was spectacular. These guys really know how to play and put on a great show. Based out of Houston, Heapin’ Helpin’ combines blues, soul, funk and folk influences to create a uniquely Texas-sized portion of rock. After several years of playing in various bands across Texas, the five-piece ensemble joined forces in the summer of 2014. Since then, the band has played in festivals and venues across Houston and Austin. After performing and writing their own music for several years, the band decided to record their first full length album in the summer of 2017. “Extra Gravy” captures the raw, energetic rock sound the band has crafted through their experiences performing live in and around Houston, Texas. We’ve got a video from tonight’s show for you to check out now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television located at our channel Houstonmusicnewstv1 on youtube, so you can start watching anytime now. Enjoy.

Vince Converse Performs at The Big Easy When we heard Vince Converse was back performing, we decided to go over to Houston’s Big Easy to check him out. He’s always been one of our favorite guitarists, but he doesn’t seem to get out as much as he used to. Well, let me tell you, he’s still at the top of his game. This guy is simply fantastic and his show this night at The Big Easy was totally fantastic. He assembled a top notch band to perform along with him on this gig and between the two of them, it was one of the best shows we saw all month. Vince has his own take on the Blues and it’s a bit more progressive than most, so you’re in for a treat when you get around to watching the videos we have from this show posted on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at Houstonmusicnewstv1 on youtube. Don’t waste time, start watching them now.

Last In Line Performs Warehouse Live Last In Line will be performing this month at Warehouse Live on October 18th. The band is touring in support of their new album release, “II”. Last In Line was formed in 2011, when Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain, and Vivian Campbell, (Ronnie James Dio’s co-conspirators and co-writers on the “Holy Diver”, “Last In Line” – the album from which they took their name, and “Sacred Heart” albums) teamed up with esteemed vocalist Andrew Freeman. The debut album “Heavy Crown” was released in February 2016, landing at #1 on the Billboard Heat-Seekers Chart. Initially, the release had been preceded by tragedy when bassist Jimmy Bain unexpectedly passed away at the age of 68 on January 23, 2016. Last In Line, honoring what they knew would be Bain’s wish to keep the band moving, brought in renowned bassist Phil Soussan (ex-Ozzy Osbourne) and committed to sustained touring in support of the album, hitting festivals, headlining clubs, and sharing the stage with metal luminaries such as Saxon and Megadeth. In late 2017, the band gathered in L.A. to start the recording of the second album, which was produced by the band members and Jeff Pilson (Foreigner, The End: machine, exDokken), who also produced the debut album. Having really gelled as a band while touring in support of the debut album, the songwriting came readily to the members. They’ve created a record that shows a big progression in sound, while immediately being recognizable as Last In Line thanks to Vinny Appice’s rhythms, thunderous bass from Soussan, amazing vocals from Andrew Freeman, and the roaring guitars of Vivian Campbell. “The musical style of ‘II’ is different from ‘Heavy Crown’, but it wasn’t something that we planned to do,” explains Vivian Campbell. “Phil is a more intricate player than Jimmy was and
that, together with the natural growth and development of the band led us to the songs on the album. As always, we simply started to jam on ideas and see where they led us. But it’s fair to say that the songs on this album sound more developed, with more parts and more experimentation than the songs on ‘Heavy Crown’. The first album set a tone, but on ‘II’ we developed that idea and took it to the next logical stage.” Campbell told Ultimate Classic Rock that the new LAST IN LINE songs were a progression from the debut. “Some of the arrangements for these ideas that are in play at the moment, I would say they’re a little more complex than what’s on the first record,” he said. “And we do very much try to write as a band. That’s how we did the first record with LAST IN LINE — we’d just get in there and kick around ideas. A lot of times, stuff would come out of nothing. “I’ve always said that I’ve been fortunate to play with so many great musicians and so many great drummers over the years, but Vinny inspires me like no other,” he continued. “There’s just times when we go in to write when I kind of feel like I don’t have any solid ideas that I can bring to the party. Vinny will just play a beat, and he plays with such great intent. It just kind of inspires me. Frequently, we’ll come up with ideas, just because of a groove that Vinny’s laying down. It is very uplifting, I’ve got to say.” Drummer Vinny Appice, on the sound of the new record and song writing process, says “I always sound like me. Viv and I have been playing together for years and have the same feel and pulse and attitude. Now with Phil on bass, he allows a more melodic approach on the bass parts making the songs even more interesting. He fits in perfectly being from the same musical family and time as me and Viv. Mr. Freeman sings from his soul and completes the band’s sound with his melodies and amazing range.” He continues, “the songwriting process
was the same as DIO’s ‘Holy Diver’. First, we have fun writing together. We get in a room and jam on riffs and chords until we hit on something good, then continue to build it into a song. Andy puts his magic on it and it all works out very well.” Asked about first single ‘Landslide’, Vocalist Andrew Freeman says, “’Landslide’ was the first song we wrote for this record. It was really easy to write as all of the parts fell into place quickly. The title ‘Landslide’ is a metaphor relating to the day to day struggles that we all go through as people. Trying to keep on course when dealing with adversity, manipulation through media and leadership. It’s meant to inspire strength and resolve. Phil Soussan says about how it was joining Last In Line and the development of the songs, “[i]t was refreshing to be able to write songs in such an organic fashion – by jamming and developing ideas as a group, without bringing in preconceived songs – something I haven’t done for ages. The result was a true collaboration, a concept that is so rare these days! Vinny

has a unique style of drumming that, beyond keeping beats, inspires riffs and arrangements and Vivian has a way of playing that has a conviction to every note. He is able to turn every riff into a signature. Andrew was creative and unrestricted, focusing his contemporary influences into vocal stylings and hooks that are outside the classic rock clichés. He is very much a perfectionist. Beyond trying to remain true to Jimmy’s playing and to the heritage of the relationship between Viv and Vinny, everyone was completely open to exploring any possible idea. I am honestly prouder of our efforts on this album than anything in which I have been involved in for a very long time. With ‘II’ I would like to think that we have stretched out from ‘Heavy Crown’ to test some uncharted waters…. the evolution of Last in Line!”

Tool continued
During the band’s usual extended hiatus between albums, Maynard James Keenan decided to use his downtime productively by forming a side project, dubbed A Perfect Circle. The band’s 2000 debut, Mer de Noms, was a surprise hit, while the ensuing tour was a sold-out success as well. With Tool breakup rumors swirling, the band put the speculation to rest by reentering the recording studio and issuing the stopgap B-sides/DVD set Salival late the same year. Finally, May 2001 saw the release of Tool’s third full-length release, Lateralus, which debuted at the number one position on the Billboard album chart and became the band’s biggest hit. After the obligatory several-year sabbatical to pursue other projects, the group returned with another chart-topper, 10,000 Days, in 2006. After an interminable 13-year gap between albums, Tool returned in 2019 with their epic fifth album, Fear Inoculum.

Ghost Ship Ritual Perform at The Acadia Bar Hi Folks, we’re at The Acadia Bar and Grill now to see Ghost Ship Ritual. This band features a heavy blend of Doom, Blues and Stoner vibes and appears to be more of an instrumental project. At least while we were there, there was no singing involved, but that doesn’t matter. These guys put on a great show and have quite a few really good songs... heavy, but melodic... and filled with an unmatched energy that we rarely see in the instrumental bands around Houston. The band is comprised of Bill Ledgerwood - Guitar, Justin Nunez - Guitar, Andrew Ackerley Drums, and Kevin Neiman - Bass. If you’re looking for something heavy, then be sure to check these guys out sometime. They really hit the spot for us. Of course, we’ve got a couple of videos for you to check out of these guys at HMNTV - Houston Music News Television, located on google at houstonmusicnewstv1. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did. You can start watching now.
Wes Nickson Performs at Loaded Barrels From his heart-touching ballads to his hard-rocking riffs, native Texan Wes Nickson is a booming presence brimming with a stunning breadth of musical styles Born and raised in West Texas, Wes found his love for country music at an early age. After high school Wes joined the United States Marine Corps. When his stint in the service ended Wes came home to Lubbock to pursue his first love… Music! Their debut album “Tired of Waitin’” did well on Texas radio and very well in Europe. Topping no less than 5 Top 20 music charts and the title track landed Wes a top 10 hit in France. Wes and the boys have run the Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico dance hall circuit with great success. In 2016 the band had to take a short break due to Wes going on a 3 month tour playing backup acoustic for another Texas artist, Cody Johnson. With the release of the new EP, “Good and Ready”, the Wes Nickson Band is excited to hit the road again to promote the album. They are fantastically talented and hungry to share their music with the world.
Kendall Mason Band Perform at The BFE Rock Club
Kendall Mason unveiled his new band lineup this past month along with some great new material at The BFE Rock Club recently and we were there to check them out. Yeah, Kendall never disappoints. His new lineup is stellar as we expected and his new songs are really good. It was a lot of fun listening to him and the new songs, as well as listening to some of our old Kendall Mason favorites. Keep it up Kendall. We continued on next page love ya!

Several times a week, Vollie Ray’s host a Karaoke night, and there’s a good reason for that. His crowd just loves Karaoke. On top of that he’ll also get some really talented folks in there that love to share their vocal skills with others. We saw a few singers this night, but Andrew Arrambide really impressed us. The Devil Wears Prada Perform October 31st at Warehouse Live The Devil Wears Prada will return this fall with a new album, The Act, and have unveiled the first single, “Lines of Your Hands”. The band is on tour right now in support of the new album which is expected to be released on this month, just prior to their upcoming show at White Oak Music Hall on October 31st. The band’s seventh LP, and first for Solid State Records, will arrive on October 11th. The song “Lines of Your Hands” shows the band moving away from its metalcore roots, and embracing a more minimal sound. As frontman Mike Hranica told Alternative Press, “When I hear something like Billie Eilish, my mind goes straight to the sheer minimalism of it. I don’t see that in metal or hard rock … That’s something I’m really excited about. I’ve found myself over the last five or so years being drawn into culture and art that grabs you based on what’s not there rather than what is there.” In a press release, Hranica stated, “Sonically, we feel that ‘Lines of Your Hands’ checks the right boxes for first single released from this album. What is upcoming really moves away from where Prada has been the last 10 years.” Last December, The Devil Wears Prada vocalist Mike Hranica told Heavy New York about the band’s plans for a new studio album: “We’re trying to do something very different this time around and put out a record people haven’t heard… When we
first started writing, Kyle [Sipress, guitar] and John [Gering, keyboards] had almost 30 songs put together and they listened to them and they were, like, ‘This just sounds like ‘Transit Blues Part 2’.’ So we were, like, ‘We’re not doing that.’ We look back on ‘Transit Blues’ pretty fondly. We would definitely change a number of things if we could, but there’s no point in redoing it… For this record, the goal was to write 20 songs, which is way more than we usually do — we usually write 13 songs or 12 songs and those songs make the record. So we’re putting together a bunch of ‘em and then we’ll sit down and look at ‘em and say, ‘What didn’t make the cut?’ So, it’ll be interesting. There will be friction, but all for the better and hopefully a better, different record than what folks have heard.” Dayton, Ohio Christian metalcore act the Devil Wears Prada took their name from the novel and movie, but rebranded it to fit their anti-materialistic ethics. Formed in 2005, the band consisted of singer and lyricist Mike Hranica (who handled the death growl vocals), guitarist and vocalist Jeremy DePoyster (who performed the clean vocals), guitarist Chris Rubey, bassist Andy Trick, keyboardist James Baney, and drummer Daniel Williams (Hranica and Rubey also had an experimental grindcore side project band called xGUMBYx). This lineup recorded the 2005 EP Patterns of a Horizon, which was self-released with individual hand-painted covers.
Signing to Victory Records’ positivethemed subsidiary Rise, the Devil Wears Prada released Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord in the summer of 2006. After selling more than 30,000 units of their debut, they went back to the studio and began plugging away on 2007’s Plagues. With Roots Above and Branches Below followed two years later. They released a concept EP about the apocalypse titled Zombie in 2010. Both of these latter releases debuted in the Billboard Top Ten; the band was also a star live attraction, headlining — and selling out — its own tours for three years running. In the summer of 2011, they headlined the Vans Warped Tour as a precursor to the release of their fourth album, Dead Throne, which was produced by Killswitch Engage’s Adam Dutkiewicz and released in September of that year. The album peaked on the Billboard 200 at number ten, their highest
position to date. The group’s first live album, Dead&Alive, followed in 2012. The Devil Wears Prada began sessions for their fifth proper album in early 2013, working with producers Matt Goldman (Underoath) and Dutkiewicz again in an executive role. The results, 8:18, appeared on Roadrunner in September 2013. The band continued to tour in support of that album through 2014. In early 2015, founding guitarist Rubey parted ways with the band and was replaced by Kyle Sipress. The band issued the intergalactic concept piece Space EP that summer. A year later, they experienced another lineup change, with Williams amicably leaving the group. Guiseppe Capolupo (DeMise of Eros, Haste the Day) took Williams’ place in the studio for sessions that yielded the band’s sixth effort, 2016’s Transit Blues.

The Hollywood Spotlight By Hollywood Steve Rangel
The Gatlin Brothers Peform At The Clarion The Gatlin Brothers are on tour again and they will be performing at The Clarion at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson this November 1st. Led by Larry Gatlin, the Gatlin Brothers are one of the most popular country groups in the music’s history. Adopting the close harmony vocal techniques of the Louvins and the Everlys to the highly polished country-pop era, Larry and the Gatlin Brothers scored a number of hits during the ’70s and ’80s. Often, the group walked the line between intricate, inventive country and pure commercial material, which resulted in strong sales but occasionally poor reviews. Nevertheless, they remained near the top of the charts until the late ’80s, when the new traditionalists began to gain popularity. Following their decline in popularity, Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers went into semiretirement during the early ’90s, which resulted in the group relocating to Branson, Missouri, where they ran their own theater. The Gatlin Brothers didn’t officially form until 1979, when Larry began crediting them as a supporting band on his solo singles, but the three brothers — Larry, Steve, and Rudy — had been performing together since childhood, when they sang in church and on several local Texas television shows. While they were still in their teens, they recorded a religious album for the independent Sword & Shield label. Following high school graduation, Larry, who was the eldest of the brothers, headed off to the University of Houston, where he briefly joined the gospel group the Imperials. Larry performed with the Imperials in Las Vegas, where he met Dottie West, who was impressed enough by his songwriting talents to record two of his songs, “You’re the Other Half of Me” and “Once You Were Mine,” and pay for him to move to Nashville. Once he arrived in Nashville, he found that West had been circulating his demo tapes, which led to Kris Kristofferson playing Larry’s demo for Monument Records executive Fred Foster. Impressed by the tape, Foster offered Gatlin a contract in 1972. By that time, Larry had already invited his brothers to Nashville to form a backing group, and they wound up singing on his debut album, The Pilgrim, which featured his first country hit, “Sweet Becky Walker.” Gatlin’s second album, Rain Rainbow, also featured support from his brothers and contained “Delta Dirt,” which climbed to number 14. The third Gatlin album was officially credited to Gatlin with Family and
Friends and contained his first Top Ten hit, “Broken Lady,” which peaked at number five in early 1976. Later that year, the Gatlin Brothers were made members of the Grand Ole Opry. In 1977, Gatlin’s fourth album, High Time, was credited to Larry with Brothers and Friends and contained his first number one hit, “I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love.” After releasing one more solo album, the Gatlin Brothers were officially credited as Larry’s backing band as of 1979, just as he signed to Columbia Records. The first hit single to bear this name was the number one “All the Gold in California.” Throughout the ’80s, the Gatlin Brothers ran up a string of 15 Top 40 hits, including “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You),” “Denver,” “The Lady Takes the Cowboy Everytime,” and “She Used to Be Somebody’s Baby.” All of their recordings during this time were released under a variety of names, including Larry & the Gatlin Brothers Band, Larry & the Gatlin Brothers, and Larry, Steve, Rudy: The Gatlin Brothers. By the end of the decade, the group’s popularity began to decline, due to the popularity of new traditionalist performers. In 1991, the group decided to retire after they performed a farewell tour. Larry appeared in the lead role in the Broadway musical The Will Rogers Follies the following year, while Steve recorded an inspirational album and Rudy opened two Gatlin Brothers Music City Grilles. In 1993, the group opened their own theater in Branson, Missouri, where they began performing regularly; they also sang frequently in Las Vegas. That same year, the group signed to the small label Branson Entertainment and released Moments to Remember, which was followed by Cool Water the next year. From that point forward, the Gatlin Brothers didn’t record much but they continued to perform, usually in their theater in Branson. After a decade-long break from the studio, they released Sing Their Family Gospel Favorites on Dualtone Records in 2004, which was followed in 2009 by Pilgrimage on Curb. Not long after its release, Larry Gatlin became a star on the Fox News Channel, appearing on a variety of shows as a pundit. Gatlin then split his time between television and performing, with recording being a secondary concern. The next Gatlin Brothers record, The Gospel According to Gatlin, arrived on Curb in 2015.
Sparky Parker “In The Dark” Blues-rock is one of the most enduring of all genres. At its best, it is a common denominator, a musical form with universal crossover appeal. At its worst, it is a tired dinosaur waiting to be put out of its misery. Sparky Parker resides squarely in the first category. Parker is perhaps too young to be referred to as a veteran. But he’s been around awhile. And his latest release is a clear declaration that he’s not going anywhere, except maybe onward and upward. My recollections of Sparky Parker were of a much more blues oriented guitarist. But his evolution as a songwriter is both apparent and impressive. He appears to be drawn
in a more blues-rock direction. It’s a natural progression, one that suits him nicely. “In The Dark” is a diverse offering. Seven Parker originals, as well as three well chosen covers. Joining guitarist/vocalist Parker are bassist Phillip Lock and drummer Kevin Berry. (Keyboardist William Gorman contributes on the majority of these tracks, as well). All are top shelf players, and their performances reflect as much. And while I can appreciate the “guest musician” thing as much as anyone, there is a sense of continuity and overall vibe that is exclusive to recordings that feature the same core lineup throughout. “In The Dark” definitely benefits from this approach, and these compositions are showcased all the better for this consistency. But there’s variety aplenty. The heavily wah-infused title track sounds like it was conceived in the 70’s, “8 Days In The Doghouse” is an upbeat, straight ahead rocker, and “Games” is the blues gem you’re expecting to hear from Parker. And he puts his own spin on the interesting coverselections, in particular “Dead Flowers” from The Stones. Featuring flawless production, “In The Dark” was recorded by Rock Romano at The Redshack Recording Studio, which is quickly becoming the go-to engineer/studio combo in East Texas. It’s a grand feather in the cap of a brilliant young artist who only figures to get better. Sparkyparker.com
