Jason Vieaux Performs at The Clarion at Brazosport College April 5 Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux, “among the elite of today’s classical guitarists” (Gramophone), is the guitarist that goes beyond the classical. NPR describes Vieaux as, “perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation.” Among his extensive discography is the 2015 Grammy Award winning album for Best Classical Instrumental Solo, Play, from which the track “Zapateado” was also chosen as one of NPR’s “50 Favorite Songs of 2014 (So Far)”. Vieaux has earned a reputation for putting his expressiveness and virtuosity at the service of a remarkably wide range of music, and his schedule of performing, teaching, and studio recording commitments is distinguished throughout the U.S. and abroad. His solo recitals have been a feature at every major guitar series in North America and at many of the important guitar festivals in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Mexico. Jason Vieaux has performed as concerto soloist with over 100 orchestras, including Cleveland, Toronto, Houston, Nashville, San Diego, Buffalo, Auckland Philharmonia, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Recent and future performance highlights include returns to the Caramoor Festival as Artist-in-Residence, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, New York’s 92Y, Ravinia Festival, Eastern Music Festival, Curtis Presents, and performances at the Phillips Collection, the National Gallery of Art, Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colon, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Seoul Arts Center, and Shanghai Concert Hall. He has forged his reputation as a first-rate chamber musician and programmer through performances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Bard Music Festival, Music@Menlo, San Francisco Performances, Cleveland Chamber Music Society, Strings Music Festival, Grand Teton, and many others. Recent and upcoming chamber music collaborators include the Escher String Quartet; Grammy-winning mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke; violinists Nigel Armstrong, Anne Akiko Meyers, Kristin Lee, and Tessa Lark; acclaimed harpist Yolanda Kondonassis; and accordion/bandoneon virtuoso Julien Labro. Vieaux’s passion for new music has fostered premieres of works by Jonathan Leshnoff, Avner Dorman, Dan Visconti, Vivian Fung, Keith Fitch, Kinan Abou-Afach, David Ludwig, Jerod Tate, Eric Sessler, José Luis Merlin, Jeff Beal, Gary Schocker, and more. Vieaux recently premiered Visconti’s “Living Language” Guitar Concerto with the California Symphony and recorded Leshnoff’s Guitar Concerto live with the Nashville Symphony. Vieaux’s latest CD release is a performance of Jeff Beal’s “Six Sixteen” Guitar Concerto with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (BIS). Slated for release in 2019 is the premiere recording of the Jonathan Leshnoff Guitar Concerto with the Nashville Symphony (Naxos), and a new album with the Escher String Quartet fea-
turing Boccherini’s Guitar Quintet and Aaron Jay Kernis’ 100 Greatest Dance Hits (Azica). Recent recordings include Infusion (Azica), a collaboration with bandoneonist Julien Labro featuring the duo’s original arrangements Leo Brouwer, Piazzolla, Radamés Gnattali, Pat Metheny, and Tears for Fears’ Everybody Wants to Rule the World; Ginastera’s Guitar Sonata, which is featured on Ginastera: One Hundred (Oberlin Music) produced by harpist Yolanda Kondonassis; and Together (Azica), a duo album with Kondonassis. Of his Grammy-winning 2014 solo album Play, Soundboard Magazine writes, “If you ever want to give a friend a disc that will cement his or her love for the guitar, this is a perfect candidate,” while Premier Guitar claims, “You’d be hard pressed to find versions performed with more confidence, better tone, and a more complete understanding of the material.” Previous albums include a recording of Astor Piazzolla’s music with Julien Labro and A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra; Bach: Works for Lute, Vol. 1, which ranked highly on Billboard’s Classical Chart after its first week and received rave reviews by Gramophone, The Absolute Sound, and Soundboard; Images of Metheny, featuring music by American jazz legend Pat Metheny (who after hearing this landmark recording declared: “I am flattered to be included in Jason’s musical world”); and Sevilla: The Music of Isaac Albeniz, which made several Top Ten lists the year of its release. Vieaux’s albums and live performances are regularly heard on radio and internet around the world, and his work is the subject of feature articles in print and online around the world, including such magazines as Acoustic Guitar, MUSO,Gramophone, and on NPR’s “Deceptive Cadence.” Vieaux was the first classical musician to be featured on NPR’s popular “Tiny Desk” series, on which he made a rare repeat performance in 2015 with Yolanda Kondonassis. In 2012, the Jason Vieaux School of Classical Guitar was launched with ArtistWorks Inc., an unprecedented technological interface that provides one-on-one online study with Vieaux for guitar students around the world. In 2011, he co-founded the guitar department at the Curtis Institute of Music, and in 2015 was invited to inaugurate the guitar program at the Eastern Music Festival. Vieaux has taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music since 1997, heading the guitar department since 2001. Vieaux is affiliated with Philadelphia’s Astral Artists. In 1992 he was awarded the prestigious GFA International Guitar Competition First Prize, the event’s youngest winner ever. He is also honored with a Naumburg Foundation top prize, a Cleveland Institute of Music Alumni Achievement Award, and a Salon di Virtuosi Career Grant. In 1995, Vieaux was an Artistic Ambassador of the U.S. to Southeast Asia. His primary teachers were Jeremy Sparks and John Holmquist.

Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets Perform at Jones Hall For The Performing Arts March 25th Pink Floyd’s drummer, Nick Mason, the heartbeat of the band will be brining his Saucerful Of Secrets Tour to Jones Hall this month on March 25th for one spectaular evening of early Pink Floyd music. Pink Floyd is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Seriously, they’ve lyrically plundered the depths of the human condition, experimented with sounds and textures and technology well before many of their era peers, and remained relevant more than five decades after their inception. Nick Mason was the drummer for the entirety of Pink Floyd’s tenure, both before and after the split of Roger Waters and David Gilmour. (He remained with the latter.) Like his band mates before him, Pink Floyd cofounder and drummer, Nick Mason, is embarking on a solo tour with his new group, Saucerful of Secrets! Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason formed a new supergroup earlier this past year called Saucerful of Secrets. Rounded out by former Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt, The Blockheads guitarist Lee Harris, Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp, and composer Dom Beken, the rock outfit toured Europe with a setlist specifically featuring Pink Floyd’s early, pre-Dark Side of the Moon material. Now, Saucerful of Secrets are ready to take over North America. The show is an opportunity to experience Pink Floyd’s celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums The Piper At The Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets. Very few bands are as culturally important as Pink Floyd. They are one of the best-selling music artists of all time and Nick Mason is a founder and the only constant member of the band performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows. Nick Mason’s new project has certainly sent ripples of excitement through the Floyd fanbase. Whereas the band itself might now have run its course, its illustrious guitar and bass alumni are keeping the music alive in the world’s stadiums. So the thought of a third outfit addressing material from the Syd Barrett era and beyond - some of which has never been performed live in the past - is a tantalising one, to say the least. “With the help of some like-minded friends, I have embarked on a voyage of discovery of the music that was the launchpad of Pink Floyd and my working life,” Mason said in a statement (via Rolling Stone). “It seems too early to retire, and I missed the interaction with other musicians. Really, it was Lee Harris who initially suggested to Guy Pratt that he thought I should go back to work, I think. Guy was enthusiastic and, having worked with Guy now for about 30 years, I thought, ‘That’ll be alright, then…’ Then we got this real enthusiasm from Gary. I’ve known Gary for quite a while and I thought it would be terrific to work with him. We then collected Dom [Beken] for the keyboards Page 4 - Music News

and sort of set off. I think we just did a couple of rehearsals and we all really enjoyed it, thought it sounded okay, and it sort of went on from there. So it was a fairly organic process. “Being an eternal optimist, I thought it would just come straight back to me,” the drummer told Billboard.
“Sadly, I was wrong. Once you start examining Syd Barrett’s work carefully, it’s quite often more complex than you expect. “It’s not necessarily written like so many pop songs with an eight-bar section and the middle eights and whatever. It’s quite often a completely different set of bar counts to what you’re expecting.” He added: “And that in a way was fun and challenging to get at the feel of the song, but not necessarily feel that we had to sound exactly like Syd or like David Gilmour or whatever.” The band’s set is expected to feature selections from the Syd Barrett-era of Pink Floyd, including albums The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets (hence the supergroup’s name). “This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd’s celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets,” the new group said in a statement. “Very few bands are as culturally important as Pink Floyd.
They are one of the best selling music artists of all time and Nick Mason is a founder and the only constant member of the band performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows. This will be Nick Mason’s first live musical outing since Pink Floyd played at the 2005 Live 8 concert in London.” Collecting rave reviews as they introduced their unique live show of early Pink Floyd to sold-out UK and European audiences in 2018, the 25-date tour kicks off March 12, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, includes a stop at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, MA on April 13, 2019 and concludes April 22, 2019 in Washington, DC at DAR Constitution Hall. This tour marks Pink Floyd co-founder and drummer Nick Mason’s first performances in North America since Pink Floyd’s July 18, 1994 concert at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey as part of the Division Bell Tour. Mason’s new tour is his first major embarkment since Pink Floyd’s 1994 support of The Division Bell, however, this new project harks back to Pink Floyd’s early sound, covering songs from Pink Floyd’s early albums, including 1970’s Atom Heart Mother, 1967’s A Piper at the Gates of Dawn and of course, 1968’s A Saucerful of Secrets. Mason told Music Radar that the early Pink Floyd sound provides a fresh platform for his return to the drums, “I think when I was talking about a labour of love it’s not so much specifically those albums, although there’s a freshness to them that perhaps would be missing if we start raiding ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and ‘The Wall’ and so on.” “You head into tribute band territory with yet another version of ‘Comfortably Numb’. It’s more a labour of love in terms of me playing drums again, really.” He also stated, that the key in recreating this sound was incorporating improvisation as much as possible, “What I’d like to do is recreate the idea of improvising; we won’t play the same thing again and again – we’re not planning to learn an improvised solo – if you see what I mean. “That’s the backbone of it. Of course, there are some occasions when it will end up being fairly similar, but hopefully, we’ll be able to keep that alive.”

Badfish Perform At White Oak Music Hall March 29 The ultimate tribute and to to Sublime, Badfish, will be taking the stage this month at White Oak Music Hall on March 29th. The phenomenon known as Sublime, arguably the most energetic, original and uniquely eclectic band to emerge from any scene, anywhere, ended with the untimely death of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Brad Nowell in May of 1996. But encompassing the sense of place and purpose long associated with Sublime’s music, Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime continues to channel the spirit of Sublime with a fury not felt for some time. What separates Badfish from other tribute bands is that they have replicated Sublime’s essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label-driven, mainstream acts. Badfish make their mark on the audience by playing with the spirit of Sublime. They perform not as Sublime would have, or did, but as Badfish does. On April 13, 2001, Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime, played its first show in Matunuck, Rhode Island to 500 fans, many of whom drove an hour or more to celebrate the music of a band whose run ended far too soon amid the tragic death of lead singer Brad Nowell in 1996. But no one could have predicted what was about to happen next. Fans were calling this a “rebirth” of Sublime, and Badfish went on to break attendance records up and down the East coast. 18 years later, the band is still going strong, and — despite the fact that the original Sublime has re-formed with a new singer— Badfish still maintains the spirit of Sublime and helps to carry on their legacy with grace. Sublime was arguably the most energetic, original and uniquely eclectic band to emerge from any scene, anywhere, but ended with the untimely death of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Brad Nowell in 1996. But encompassing the sense of place and purpose long associated with Sublime’s music, Badfish, a tribute to Sublime has continued to channel the spirit of Sublime with a fury not felt for quite some time. What separates Badfish from other tribute bands is that they have replicated Sublime’s essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label-driven, mainstream acts. Formed in 2001, Badfish has become one of the biggest club and theater acts in the Northeast and Midwest. Consistently selling out many shows at some of the most prominent venues throughout the country, promoters continue to be in awe that a tribute band is turning several hundred fans away from the doors each night. Badfish rivals the biggest tributes in the music business. Badfish make their mark on the audience by playing with the spirit of Sublime. They perform not as Sublime would have, or did, but as Badfish does. The attitude of Sublime cannot be faked, so Badfish doesn’t
try - its own tribute is one that works. The group has sold out venues such as House of Blues locations in Chicago, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas, the Toronto Opera House, the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey, and Lupo’s in Providence, RI. Members of the group also play in a non-tribute act called Scotty Don’t, which sometimes acts as the opener at “Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime” shows. The band played at the Hoodwink festival in New Jersey in 2009, and Shwagstock in Salem, Missouri in 2010.

Black Stone Cherry Perform at The Scout Bar Black Stone Cherry are on tour. They will be performing April 5th at The Scout Bar in Webster, so we thought we’d give you a heads up on their upcoming show. Southern rockers Black Stone Cherry employ a fiery mix of rootsy hard rock and hardhitting post-grunge/heavy metal that invokes names like Stone Sour, Theory of a Deadman, Buckcherry, and Shinedown. According to the bandmembers, none of whom were born before 1983, the lack of anything to do in their hometown, coupled with a rich musical background in their community and families, led them to start playing music. Lead vocalist and guitarist Chris Robertson met drummer John Fred Young (the son of Kentucky Headhunters’ Richard Young) in school, and the two played music together throughout high school. In June of 2001, Black

Stone Cherry officially formed with guitarist Ben Wells and bassist Jon Lawhon. They began holding shows at clubs in the area, and after a short while they gained a large all-ages following. Folklore and Superstition The band recorded its first album for In de Goot/Roadrunner Records, and after returning from the recording session, Black Stone Cherry held a homecoming concert at the local high school. Their self-titled debut album was released in July of 2006, followed by Folklore and Superstition in 2008. It performed well on the charts, both in America and across Europe. The band’s third album, 2011’s Between the Devil & the Deep Blue Sea, was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (Daughtry, Three Days Grace). It peaked inside the Top 40 of the album charts in their home country, and hit the top spot
in Great Britain. The band toured the globe in support and won fans as far away as Japan.
Magic Mountain In 2013, the country duo Florida Georgia Line covered the band’s “Stay” and hit the number one spot on the country chart. Later that year, the band re-entered the studio with producer Joe Barresi. In April of 2014, Black Stone Cherry issued a preview single, “Me and Mary Jane,” which entered the chart at number 29 before their fourth album, Magic Mountain, was released in May. After American and U.K. tours, the band took a break in early 2015. They played the summer festival circuit and returned to Barrick Recording Studio, where their eponymously titled debut album had been cut. Thank You, Live, a DVD from their Magic Mountain tour, was released in October. In December of 2015, the new single “The Way of the Future” was released, and “In Our Dreams” arrived in January the following year. The self-produced album Kentucky, which Black Stone Cherry called a back-to-the-roots affair, was released in April of 2016. The album placed at number 40 on the Top 200 and peaked at number one on the Hard Rock Albums chart. After a nine-month tour of the U.S. and Europe, Black Stone Cherry jumped right back into the studio. The band selected six of their favorite tunes by Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, and Albert King, reimagined them with the meaty moxie of their own sound, and cut a six-track EP entitled Black to Blues. It was issued in the fall of 2017. In April of 2018 Black Stone Cherry released their sixth studio long-player, Family Tree. Family Tree is the much-anticipated follow up to 2016’s Kentucky, which debuted at #5 on the Official UK Album Chart. Like Kentucky, Black Stone Cherry opted to self-produce and track Family Tree at David Barrick’s Barrick Recording in Glasgow, KY, the same studio where the four-piece recorded their eponymous debut. BSC also opted to not over-rehearse upfront of the album sessions, instead preferring the immediacy and spontaneity of in-the-moment takes. The band also entrusted frontman Chris Robertson to mix the songs, which perfectly fit the loose, creative process that birthed Family Tree. Family Tree boasts BSC’s tried-and-true lucky number with its 13 songs, and like all BSC releases, features songwriting contributions from each member. Drummer John Fred tells us, “Family Tree showcases all of our collective musical influences and how we have taken those to create something that is truly our own unique Southern American rock ‘n roll sound.” Two special guests appear, one bringing the concept of family full circle. Chris’ 5 yr old son contributes backup vocals on the swaggering You Got The Blues, while the other, revered jam-band musician Warren Haynes (Allman Bros/Gov’t Mule) offers a guitar cameo and vocals on the delta stomp of Dancing In The Rain. The band first met Warren 17 years ago as freshly-signed youngsters on their first visit to New York City. The concept of family looms large in the world of Black Stone Cherry’s four band members. Sticksman John Fred Young’s father Richard and his uncle Fred, are founding members of the Grammy Award-winning country rock n’ roots band, The Kentucky HeadHunters. BSC’s four high school-aged friends - Young, plus frontman/ guitarist Chris Robertson, guitarist Ben Wells and bassist Jon Lawhon - grew up honing their craft in the Headhunters’ Practice House, an abandoned property on the Young family’s farmland. John Fred says, “We grew up in the Kentucky Headhunters’ rehearsal space, looking up at posters of Cream, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, the Stones, Montrose, and the Faces. We were like kids someone took in a time capsule and put in the woods.”

Electric Flood (Hendrix/Vaughan Tribute )Performs at the Concert Pub North Tonight, it was a night of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix music at The Concert Pub North with the band, Electric Flood, Houston’s newest entry into the Tribute Band Circuit. The band did an excellent job performing both of the artists material, slightly interjecting it with their own style as well, but remaining true to the original artists. Songs this night included “Foxy Lady,” “Look At Little Sister,” “Voodoo Chile,” “Cold Shot,” “Pride and Joy,” and many others. They even did a couple of songs by Robin Trower and ZZ Top. Yeah, it was a great evening of entertainment by some really good musicianships. If you want to see a good Hendrix / Vaughan Tribute, keep these guys in mind. Until then you can sit back and enjoy the two videos we have posted from this night’s show. You can watch them right now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http:// www.houstonmusicnews.net.
When it comes to 80s music, nobody does it better than The Spicoli’s. We caught up with them at The Concert Pub North and it was just one 80s hit after another. They played so many great hits from the 80s, it was impossible to remember all of them. Suffice it to say, it was a great evening. From Bon Jovi to Billy Idol, to even Van Halen, they took us on a trip down memory lane to a time when we were all on the dance floor dancing our asses off. God, the 80s were great, and so were The Spicoli’s tonight. If you haven’t seen them yet, make sure you do. They’re always well worth the trip. Thanks goes out to JD and The Concert Pub North for throwing this fine party!!

Corky’s Ribs and BBQ Opens In Katy Well folks, we have a new mecca for barbecue in the Houston area. The first of several locations set to open is now open in Katy and we were fortunate to be there for the opening of Corky’s Ribs and BBQ. Those of you who may have traveled through Memphis, Tennessee may have tasted this fine barbecue before. Corky’s originated there and has become the home for great barbecue in Tennessee and now is sure to be a hit in the Houston area as well. The new location in Katy is spearhead by operators Andria Cain and Bruce Gingrich. You may know Bruce from his great rock club , the Pub Fountains. Andria Cain is an experienced franchisee who has operated Panera and Applebee’s locations over her 30-year career, but she also has a strong Memphis connection. Her son has been treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for the last 16 years, and her family recently hosted a
fundraiser in Texas that raised $222,000 for the hospital. Gingrich, meanwhile, said they’ve come to know the families involved in Corky’s. And “we look forward to delivering great Memphis-style BBQ and service to our friends and neighbors in the Houston and Dallas markets.” Bruce and Andria plan on opening several Corky’s Ribs and BBQ locations in Houston and Dallas. In addition to great food, Corky’s is also serving up some of the best music around. You can enjoy live music along with your meals on Thursday nights through Sundays. Some of the acts coming to Corky’s Ribs and BBQ this month will be the Ziggy Band (March 2), Cody Joe Hodges (March 9), Evelyn Rubio (March 16), The Matchsticks (March 22), and Will Carter (March 29). Be sure to check out their website regularly to see who will be appearing there, and make sure you drop in and try out some of their great dishes. Corky’s also is offering a fantastic Power Hour with half price appetizers, draft beers, and well drinks 5-6pm and from 9-10pm. You definitely don’t want to miss Power Hour Corky’s Ribs and BBQ is located in Katy at 20455 Katy Freeway. You can find out more about this great location at CORKYSBBQ.COM/KATY.
Asterism Perform at the 19th Hole Grill and Bar Japanese rock/metal group ASTERISM will be performing at The 19th Hole Bar and Grill Tuesday March 19th. Just after their appearance at Austin’s SXSW festival and in support of their Aug 2018 album release IGNITION these 3 young music phenoms will be here to deliver one of their action filled live performances. Although still relatively new to the U.S. music scene, they have an ever-growing world wide fan base through their live web casts and busy touring schedule. Legendary Funk Master and bassist William “Bootsy” Collins was one of the first here in the U.S to take notice of their talents. So much so that he produced and performed on 2 tracks of their IGNITION release that also includes performances from noted former Guns and Roses guitarist Buckethead. Don’t let this youthful trio’s appearance fool you, from 16-year-old female guitarist HAL-CA’s precise, methodical and melodic playing to brothers Miyu and Mio’s flawless work on bass and drums respectively, they will totally amaze you. 16-year-old bassist Miyu who alternates between 4 and 7 string guitars will leave you with a sense of virtuosity not even seen by the most seasoned contemporary bassist. Asterism has received over 15 million views on the web already, so make sure you come out to the 19th Hole and see these rising young stars. Also appearing will be Austin based rockers The White Dog. The show starts at 8pm Tuesday, March 19th.

It was a great night of Classic Rock when Maximum Force took to the Rock ‘N’ Ray’s stage this night. Jumping’ Jeff Maximum was hot as hell as he bounced all over the stage performing some of our favorite ‘Classic Rock’ tunes. From AC/DC to Judas Priest, Jeff and company performed one great song after another. I gotta give it to Jeff... This guy sure has a lot of energy. Besides bouncing all over the stage, he also made many foray’s into the audience mingling with the crowds, guitar in hand and right on point. Architectural Genocide and Slug In The Sun Perform at Houston Underground It was a fun-filled night as 6 or 7 of the heaviest bands you ever heard took the stage at Houston Underground. Houston Underground was packed and the mosh pit was a really happening experience as folks there just bounced off each other the entire night. We got there in time to see Architectural Genocide (top photo) and Slug In The Sun (bottom picture) perform. Both bands put on excellent sets and the crowd there just couldn’t get enough of them. Architectural Genocide classifies their music as Brutal Death Metal. It’s definitely not for the weak of heart. It’s definitely brutal. Architectural Genocide is Nat Conner (drums), Daniel Brockway (vocals), Jonathan Blake (guitar), and Matt Day (bass). Equally impressive was Slug In The Sun. Their music was just as heavy, and filled with some really interesting lyrics. If you were into HEAVY, then this show would have definitely filled your tastes. Jim Sutler Performs at The Big Easy
Tonight we’re at The Big Easy to see Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat from Dallas. Jim has been performing at The Big Easy for quite a while now, so whenever we get a chance we drop by and see him. He really puts on a superb show and the musicians in his band are equally as talented. Blasting out Texas blues/rock for over twenty years! Along with Suhler on guitar and lead vocals, the band includes bassist Carlton Powell, keyboardist Shawn Phares and drummer Beau Chadwell. (prior/ current drummer- Jimmy Morgan) Together, they’ve been terrorizing clubs, theaters and festivals alike with their flamethrower brand of blues/ rock. with a major side order of the Texas border mythology added to keep it spicy. Jim’s four Lucky Seven releases, two releases on Underworld Records and Jim’s solo acoustic CD ‘Dirt Road’ on Topcat records have shown an amazing depth of songwriting and playing, and their constant touring both in North America and Europe has garnered many admirers and accolades. The same take-no-prisoners attitude has prevailed in Jim Suhler’s playing as a guitarist with George Thorogood and the Destroyers, with whom he’s recorded, toured and written songs for over ten years. Suhler has often been included in many of the “Top Ten Guitarists” lists featured in several music publications. Jim really put on a fine show tonight at The Big Easy keeping the dance floor filled and the crowd screaming for more. Every Jim Suhler show is a good one, so it’s safe to say that next time he returns to The Big Easy, be sure to go. You’ll be in for the time of your lives. Saving Abel Saving Abel is a rock band from Corinth, Mississippi was started up in 2004. Tantric, the rock band formed in Louisville, Kentucky was founded in 1999 by former Days of The New members Todd Whitener, Jesse Vest, Matt Taul, and Hugo Ferreira (only original member left is Hugo Ferreira). Their latest Album Mercury Retrogradewas released on October 5, 2018. In 2001 the band went on a headlining tour for their most successful album to date, the self-titled album Tantric. That same year the band toured with 3 Doors Down, Life House, Kid Rock and Creed. In Fall 2009, Tantric toured supporting Shinedown. In 2016 they were on the Make America Rock again tour, featuring a few fellow bands performing in this years MuddFest. One of Tantric’s chart-topping songs of all time was “Breakdown.” As of today, Hugo Ferreira is still the leading vocalist and only founding member of tantric in the band. Jaron Guilino is playing bass, Sebastian Labar on Lead Guitar, and Nick Gray on the Drums. One thing is true about the band Tantric; Although they have had their ups and downs and had members leave and left a single man alone to pick up the pieces, this band refuses to let anything stop them for making great music and keeping the dream alive. Through hard work and dedication, I believe Hugo has found a great group of guys who share the same dream and creative ideas that will push the band into an even more successful future. All four men are very talented and devoted and this is one group you will want to keep in eye on in the future.

Bobaflex Performs at The BFE Rock Club We’re at The BFE Rock Club tonight to see National Recording Artists Bobaflex. Wow, the crowd is primed here tonight at BFE and they just can’t wait to see Bobaflex. The folks here tonight have been anticipating this show for quite a while now and the fans have filled BFE Rock Club waiting for them to finally hit the stage. Bobaflex first hit the charts with their first album release, “Hell In My Heart” in 2011. Bobaflex has just released “Eloquent Demons” on the label Thermal Entertainment, their most ambitious and well received LP yet, which has already produced four acclaimed singles – a cover of “Hey You” by Pink Floyd, the original “Long Time Coming,” “Lights Out,” and “Off With Your Head.” Tonight’s show was incendiary. From the moment the band hit the stage, they had the audience in the palms of their hands. Without a doubt, this is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen at The BFE Rock Club. These guys ROCK! After watching them, I immediately went home and got copies of all their albums. Congratulations goes out to John Janatsch and The BFE Rock Club for bringing in such top notch entertainment. Check out the two videos we have posted on HMNTV – Houston Music News Television and we’re sure you’ll become fans too.
Phantom Eye Performs at the BFE Rock Club We’re at The BFE Rock Club this night to see National Recording Artists Bobaflex, but first up for us is Phantom Eye. Several other bands have taken the stage already, but now Phantom Eye is on stage right before Bobaflex goes on. This Texas Metal / Hard Rock Band is really killing it. Everyone is crowded up by the stage right now, just loving every minute of their performance. These guys are really good! Phantom Eye is Dan McClellan - guitar, vocals, Gabriel Gomez - drums, vocals, and Brian Heath - bass, vocals. The guys really run a tight show. Their music is heavy, yet highly accessible and entertaining filled with great melodies and some really thought provoking lyrics. That combined with their stage show makes for a great evening of entertainment. They were certainly a fine choice to be added to this bill. We’re looking forward to seeing them again. Check out the two videos we have posted on HMNTV – Houston Music News Television.
Chad Ware Performs at Katie’s in Bacliff
We’re at Katie’s tonight to see Chad Ware. I know we’ve told you about Chad before, but we’re going to do it again. Besides being a wonderful showman, Chad is one helluva guitarist. This guy really breathes new life into his guitar every time we see him. When it comes to Country Pickin’, Chad is one of the best. He’s so good, he’s performed and shared the stage with the likes of Perfect Stranger, Rick Trevino, Janie Frickie, and Cory Morrow, just to name a few. When it comes to listening to some fine Country Music, Chad is always one of our obvious picks. Tonight’s show at Katies Bar was another fine performance, and we couldn’t have picked a better place or performer to see this night. Love continued on next page ya Chad... Keep on Pickin’!

While we were there, they performed a lot of our favorite Country tunes, and they did a wonderful job at it. Whether it was Randy Rogers (“KIss Me In The Dark”) or George Strait (“Check Yes Or No”), they did an excellent job. Lots of great Country tunes were performed here at Loaded Barrels tonight, and we couldn’t have picked a better place to be. Check out Loaded Barrels sometime. Wow, we’re at the BFE Rock Club tonight to see Twelve Years Driven. This band has all the makings of a great rock band. Great Songs! Great Vocals! Great Musicianship! And the drive it takes to stand out above the rest. Their show is filled with energetic stage presence that at times makes you wonder whether or not you are watching a National Act. Musicianship among the band is second to none. The band features Larry Gilstrap and Adam Simmons holding down guitars duties, Kris Wood killing it on bass, and Robert Rice killing it with his aggressive vocal style, and Fred Escobedo on drums. The band is no stranger to performing with greatness. They have shared the stage with many great acts, such as national recording artists such as P.O.D., Mushroomhead, Drowning Pool, Puddle Of Mudd, Filter, Saliva, American Head Charge, (Hed) P.E., Motograter, Deadhorse, 40 Below Summer, Parabelle and Red Line Chemistry. Their show at the BFE Rock Club this night was a lot of fun and filled with some really great musical moments. Interaction with the audience is a huge staple with this act and they certainly made the audience there feel as if they were part of the show. It was one of the most fun-filled performances of theirs that I’ve been to. I’d love to see what they have up their sleeves next. In the meantime, you need to watch the two videos we have posted right now from this performance on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net. You’re gonna love ‘em.

Green Jelly Performs at The Acadia Bar & Grill Al Williams gave us a call and invited us out to see his act, the Green Jelly Puppet Show at The Acadia Bar & Grill this evening. I’d never seen Green Jelly before, so I thought I’d give it a try. Let me tell you, this was really something different. Green Jellÿ (pronounced “green jello”) is an American comedy rock band formed in 1981. Originally named Green Jellö, the band changed its name due to legal pressure from the owners of the Jell-O trademark, Kraft Foods, who claimed that it was an infringement of their trademark. Despite the spelling difference, the new name and the old are pronounced identically.” Billed as the Green Jelly Puppet Show, audience members are recruited into the fold as puppets and about 22 of them are fitted with bizarre puppet heads and then as part of the show they interact with the band and become part of the show. Yes folks, this was a bizarre show, but it was a lot of fun. I almost got recruited into the show, and was singled out by their lead singer who kept calling me Col. Sanders. It was a lot of fun. Other than that I am really at a loss of words to describe what goes on here, so the best thing I can do is have you watch the two videos we have from the show this night. Check ‘em out, they’re going to leave you breathless. You can start watching them now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net.

I had The chance to go By Jay Lambs Remy Syndicate. If you have not had a chance to see Southern Star Brewery Texas them perform, make sure you do. They are one Metal Fest of the newest bands added to the Circus of the Held in Conroe Texas at the amazing southern star brewery. With amazing craft beers like my favorite the blond bombshell which is quite the perfect lite beer. This festival brought in a great crowd of kickass people, vendors and some truly amazing bands such as: Surrender Stella, Devil’s Adversary (who helped us put by lending us their guitar amp as our had died right on stage!), Spiral Eye, Reckless High, The Steve Satchel Band, and Apothica! All bands absolutely did an amazing Job. I can not wait to perform there again and hope to see all these outstanding bands again! I really loved the atmosphere at Southern Star Brewery. They have outstanding staff members! This event truly had a super caring sound guy staffed for this event that made the performances sound amazing! Houston in 2011 really stuck out to me at the last show I saw them at. They are a extremely tight solid sounding band with some amazing band members, such as Jesus Sanchez (vocals), who likes to get the crowd going with powerful vocals and lyrics that will have you head banging like a rocker! Jonah Gueno (bass/backing vox) really cranks it out with precision, and he is a outstanding bassist. Mauricio Moran (lead guitar/backing vox), is truly one of the best people here in the Houston music scene. He is always polite and helpful to fellow bands. Mauricio truly has some insane skills on guitar he is for sure a super! Brandon Gbomb (drums/and other cool stuff) is ultra down to earth and loves to connect with people showing everyone’s positive vibes. He is truly a amazing drummer. I was happy to meet with everyone from this incredible band and they are now truly brothers to me . Devils Adversary sounds like Pantera keeping to the Texas tradition of metal sound! This band is absolutely a must see whenever you get the chance! Be sure to like and follow their band page at the following link http://www.facebook.com/ pg/DevilsAdversary

MUSIC NEWS pliments each song in a manner that was not always present on the first album. The undeniable growth of RKN Country Blues Band as a cohesive unit, coupled with the always outstanding production work of Rock Romano and Red Shack Recording Studio, make “Flyin’ Like a Crow” a thoroughly enjoyable listen. I can’t wait for album number three... reverbnation.com/ therkncountrybluesband
The Hollywood Spotlight By Hollywood Steve Rangel duction to performance, is more seamless and polished than its predecessor. The band has certainly found its groove from a songwriting standpoint. The material on “Flyin’ Like A Crow” is chock full of memorable hooks, solid arrangements, and lyrical sophistication. There are several radio-ready songs, in particular “Second Time Around”, “The Ballad Of Cooter Brown”, “While The Storm Rolls By”, and my personal favorite “Tied To These Blues” (which features a little tasty bass work from McDonald). These
compositions are perfectly suited for this configuration of veteran musicians, a perfect combination of players and songs that is not always a given. Perhaps the most noticeable advancement in this regard is the lead guitar work, which com-
Davi Jay & The Bourbon St. Experience “Every Night Is Mardi Gras” Fans of good ol’ fashioned feel-good dance music, played by a REAL band, are going to be thrilled with the new release from Davi Jay & The Bourbon St. Experience. “Every Night Is Mardi Gras” is eleven songs worth of over-thetop energy and groove, an almost overwhelming assault on the senses that is guaranteed to make even the least coordinated of us get up and dance (or at least try to). Davi Jay and the band are a combination of swag, charisma, talent, and tongue-in-cheek attitude that could perhaps best be compared to the brilliant Morris Day And The Time in their heyday. The Bourbon St. Experience features Jay on lead vocals and percussion, Benny Pittman Jr. on guitar, Don Dautrive on percussion, drummer Robert Daniels Jr., and bassist Renrick Harper. Their music is a refreshing blend of funk and R & B, but this is an extremely versatile bunch. So when you hear hints of rock and roll and blues, or when they suddenly spring a zydeco number on you (as they do with “I Like Crawfish”), it’s really no surprise. But their signature sound is ever present, and true to their name, this album feels like a night out in New Orleans. The vast majority of the material here is original, although they deliver a truly inspired version of “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” by Tom Petty and an equally unique version of the Prince classic “Purple Rain”. Song titles such as “I Don’t Care What Pootie Says”, “Deez Nutz”, and “I Can’t Funk With You” are indicators that Davi Jay And The Bourbon St. Experience are having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. But make no mistake about it, this outfit is the real deal. And the outstanding title track could stand toe to toe with some of the best funk tunes of the 70’s. The production team of Richard Cagle and James Hoover did a masterful job here, and there are even guest appearances by some of Houston’s most celebrated talent. However, the stars of this show are Davi Jay And The Bourbon St. Experience. And this is one show you don’t want to miss. Facebook.com/Bourbon-Street-the-Band200153755405
RKN Country Blues Band “Flyin’ Like A Crow” When last we heard from RKN Country Blues Band (on their debut release “On Solid Ground”), they were a promising outfit that showed flashes of genuine potential. They seemed headed in a positive direction, leaving the listener intrigued and curious to hear more. Flash forward to their sophomore effort “Flyin’ Like A Crow”, and the aforementioned potential has officially been realized. The evolution of this quartet (Jerry McDonald/bass and vocals, Randy Frisch/guitar and vocals, Greg Kenefic/drums, and Lynn Girouard/guitar, vocals, mandolin, harp) is clearly evident on these fourteen tracks, and it’s truly impressive. Every aspect of this recording, from pro-
