Already Gone - Texas’ Premiere Eagles Tribute Releases New Album After years of playing in original bands that went nowhere, this five piece country rock band found inspiration again as a successful Eagles tribute band. Originally conceived as an outlet that would challenge them both musically and vocally, the band’s popularity surged as word spread of their pitch-perfect harmonies, tight instrumentation and witty stage patter. Before long they were known as the “South’s premier Eagles tribute band”, playing before large crowds of appreciative fans. As the venues improved, and the crowds grew larger, something else soared on the wings of success: inspiration. After ten years, the band began writing songs again, this time in the style of bands they’d loved from their youth - including the Eagles of course, but also The Beatles,

Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and other great bands of the 60’s & 70’s. Without saying a word, they began slipping their original songs into their set lists. The response was immediate and positive. Encouraged, the band entered the studio and began recording their new music. The result - their debut EP, The Open Road - is a reflection of all of their influences through the years. The songs are melodic, and the lyrics are witty and thought-provoking, at times warily hopeful for the future, while extolling the virtues of a small-town past. From songs about heartache in the modern world, to songs about the triumph of love over the vagaries of time, Already Gone packs a lot of meaning into six tracks.

Now Already Gone is back with their new album, “8-Tracks”. In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, we sat down for a phone interview with Clint Springer (lead vocals/guitar) and Jay Bourgeois (bass/vocals) of ALREADY GONE, to talk about the band’s soonto-be-released second album, called “8-Tracks”, and the seeming contradiction of the long-established, Houston-based Eagles tribute band releasing and performing original music. Q: Let’s start with the obvious question. Already Gone has been a successful Eagles tribute band in Texas for almost 15 years. What made you decide to add original music? Clint: Songwriting is part of who we are but we had no outlet for it, other than maybe forming another band. We had already developed a good following as an Eagles tribute and we were playing theaters and bigger venues. So around 2014, we started inserting a few original songs into our Eagles sets without saying anything. People immediately started asking about the songs and eventually started requesting them at our shows. That led to us releasing our first album, “The Open Road”, in 2017. Q: On “The Open Road”, you guys stayed close to the “Eagles sound” – has that changed with “8-Tracks”? Jay: Yes. This time around, we wrote songs that were inspired by all of our favorite bands from the 1970’s, not just the Eagles. There are songs inspired by Zeppelin, the Stones, McCartney, Queen, Styx – all of the bands we loved as kids. So this album is a bit more adventurous. Clint: The goal was to make a record that sounds like it could have been released in the 70’s. We felt like back then, there was more value on every aspect of an album the songs, lyrics, album art and so on. We wanted “8-Tracks” to be a piece of art, not just a collection of songs. It has a definite 70’s vibe and feel to it, so I think we succeeded. Q: Why did you name the album “8Tracks”? Clint: When you think about it, the first time that you could really take your music on the road with you, was when 8-tracks were released in the 70’s. Suddenly you could play your music in the car. That was a big deal at the time. And 8-tracks were primitive, but they sort of forced you to listen to the entire album straight through – it was clunky to try to move between programs. So every song mattered. That’s the way we approached writing and recording this album – we hope fans will listen straight through, and will enjoy the “album” experience – not just this song or that song. Q: How will the release of “8-Tracks” change your live show? Clint: We’ll be adding more songs from the album to the show, but we’ll still be performing Eagles songs too. That won’t change. Q: Last question - do you still consider Already Gone to be a tribute band? Jay: I’m not sure we ever considered ourselves to be a true tribute band – we never tried to dress like the Eagles or recreate their live show. We just play the songs. We generally stay true to the original recordings, but not always. We put our own stamp on everything we do. People have loved it for 15 years and we’ll keep doing it as long as they keep coming to the shows. Q: Thanks guys, and good luck with the new album.

of Americas’s most popular bands. One of the most popular touring bands of all time, The Grateful Dead have long been associated with the free-love acid-dropping hippie era, their extended improvisational live performances, and their legions of loyal fans. The antithesis of a studio band, Jerry Garcia and Company, always seemed more at home on the road.

Yet, among their albums are classics that define not only the group, but a period of our history. Among the group members were Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Bill Kreutzmann, Micky Hart, Keith & Donna Godcheaux, and Brent Mydland. The Dead evolved from Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions, a band that featured Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan. They changed their name to the Warlocks in 1965 and added Phil Lesh and Bill Kreutzmann to their roster. By the end of the year, the band had changed their name to the Grateful Dead and were all living in a communal house situated at 710 Ashbury Street in San Francisco. Their association with Ken Kesey’s Acid Tests put them at the fore of the San Francisco Acid Rock scene. They and their music were getting attention. They signed with MGM Records in 1967 but were dropped a short time later when recording sessions proved unproductive. They made three albums for Warner Brothers - Grateful Dead, Anthem of the Sun, and Aoxomoxoa. When the smoke had cleared, excessive studio time had left them in debt to the record company for $100 thousand. In 1969, The Dead went to their strength, the live performance, and recorded their first live album, Live/Dead. Featuring a 23 minute version of Garcia’s “Dark Star,” the album succeeded where their previous efforts had failed. It was a hit. Next came two classics, Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty. These albums contained many of the signature songs that would become the cornerstone of the Dead’s live performances for years to follow. Among them were “Ripple,” “Uncle John’s Band,” “Casey Jones,” “Sugar Magnolia,” and “Truckin.” Eventually, they closed out their contract with Warner and signed with Arista. Their record production died off and at one point there was a 7 year break. Widely viewed as an enduring relic of the 60’s, the Grateful Dead came to the fore again with the release of 1987’s In the Dark. It was their first studio LP since Go to Heaven. A surprise hit, it included the single “Touch of Grey” which became the first Dead track ever to reach the Top Ten. With their videos playing regularly on MTV, they attracted a new generation of fans. Demand for concert tickets had never been higher. In July 1986, Garcia, with a long history of drug abuse, lapsed into a near-fatal diabetic coma. He regained consciousness five days later. His health remained an issue in the years which followed and on August 9, 1995, the 53-year old rock legend was found dead in his room at a substance abuse treatment facility in Forest Knolls, CA. His death was attributed to a heart attack. After Jerry Garcia’s death, former members of the band, along with other musicians, toured as the Other Ones in 1998, 2000, and 2002, and the Dead in 2003, 2004, and 2009. In 2015, the four surviving core members marked the band’s 50th anniversary in a series of concerts billed as their last performances together. Though Garcia’s death meant the end of the Deadhead phenomena, the music of The Grateful Dead endures and will as long as notes are strung together.

In March of 2016 Evelyn Rubio’s “Hombres” album was ranked at #1, #3, and #6 in three separate categories on Billboard’s charts. Residing within that compilation is the suggestive, romantic track “I Am Going To Love You Tonight”. A romantic bluesy soulful composition that paints a picture of heightened anticipation from the viewpoint of a lady very much in love. blues. It was his Dad who turned him on to Jimi Hendrix and like all of us the fascination with the Hendrix sound kept the young boy inquisitive to the max. His parents saw something more than fan based intrigue and bought him his first rig. Young Clay would balance his equipment on his bicycle and peddle over to his friend’s garage to jam at the tender age of ten. By the time Clay would reach his twenties his prowess on a six string brought the attention of numerous well known artists including Ian Moore, Kam Wilson, and Monte Montgomery. Now in his twenties he was performing at noted listening rooms such as the acoustically perfect dinner theatre Dosey Doe. He would go on to perform on the Chevrolet Main Stage at the Texas State Fair and not once but two years in a row, a rarity indeed. All the while both men, Richard and Clay, were curious about what the other had going on. Back in the fall of 2016, Rich on the other hand, had just completed Brad Absher’s new blues album and he was right on the cusp of announcing Annika Chambers’ new album on the Montrose Records label. It was Rich that launched the career of the widely acclaimed Carolyn Wonderland and prior to that Rich had been one of the recording professionals for Johnny Winter. Even back in 2016 Rich noted that Clay had the chops. He could see it early on. Most recently, earlier this year, they met up at the International Blues Challenge. Both came away from the meeting saying we should do something together and now they are going to do just that....

Back To The Blues To Be Produced at Montrose Records West Back in September of 2016 Richard Cagle and the Voodoo Choir were due to perform at Rudyard’s in Houston Texas. Rich had recently met Clay and let me know that this young man has talent beyond his years. After the meeting Rich invited Clay to open for him. Clay did his numbers and left the stage, Rich took the mic and asked Clay, “Hey where you going - you guys got a couple more songs in you don’t you?” They did and that bit of generosity was never forgotten by Clay and the guys. Bach Beat Entertainment Releasing New Smooth Jazz EP “Broken Promises” Bach Beat Entertainment President Lonnie Sabbath teams with noted sax man A. Killian to deliver a brand new super cool highly expressive release titled “Broken Promises”. The six song presentation delivers music so sweet and righteous that it’s a natural for the listener to move from one track to the next. “Broken Promises” is an in the groove compilation perfect for jazz aficionados around the world. Recorded at Bach Beat Entertainment Studios and Track House the new EP features the work of Lonnie “Bach” Sabbath on guitar and Mr. A. Killian on saxophone. The music was written and compiled by Lonnie Sabbath, Pat Rodriguez, and Reginald Boudreaux with the recording featuring the vocal talents of Bach, A. Killian, and the marvelous Brandi Wilson. “Broken Promises” was mixed and mastered at Track House and Advanced Audio Solutions respectively. Lonnie Sabbath, President of Bach Beat Entertainment shares, “After years of touring (MC Hammer) and then hanging my rig up I formed Bach Beat Entertainment Studios. I did not harbor intentions

of recording again but then I was encouraged to let out what might be within and bring it to life. It was almost one of those I dare you to do it kind of moments in my life. Plus just prior to that conversation the famed entertainment lawyer and past front man of Spirit, Al Staehely, dropped by the studio. He actually took my guitar off the wall and said come on let’s play something. We did and that experience coupled with the verbal encouragement from someone else afterward led me to meeting with A. Killian. Honestly, truly, I could not be happier with the final results.” Update - currently, the duo is in the studio once more only this time they are in the video recording suite at Bach Beat Studios. A companion performance video is being shot and will be released in the near future.

Trevor Jones Performs at Warehouse Live Trevor Daniel will be performing at Warehouse Live on July 2. Born and raised in Houston, Trevor Daniel began as a bedroom musician that has since reached millions of people around the world. He functions in a lane where acute songwriting and matured performances meet. His vast and detailed production accompanies his dense, yet concise style. After a hurricane devastated his hometown in 2017, Daniel knew music was his calling when all he managed to save was his instruments and recording equipment. The journey began in 2012. When he could not longer play football due to a high school credit transfer issue, Trevor turned his attention to music. “A lot of it was me joking around because I’d just learned to record myself. But eventually, I got very serious.” As he sharpened his daily pursuit of making music,Trevor diligently studied Internet Money’s online tutorials for producers. He also started uploading tracks. Before long, YouTube channel SyrebralVibes embraced Daniel’s sound and hosted his songs. People were tuning in. When he made late 2015’s “Fool,” it marked a pivotal breakthrough. “I felt like I was coming into something,” he recalls of a particular batch of new cuts. “I deleted everything else because of those songs. This was a whole new thing, and I didn’t want people to hear anything else.” The next year, Trevor won “Artist Of The Year” on the New Houston Musi c site. In early 2017, a hurricane devastated Houston. Out of the destruction, Trevor’s calling was affirmed. “My family was safe in Harvey, I stayed at my girlfriend’s house, and my family stayed with friends. We kayaked back to my apartment when the water began to go down to see the damage. I knew music was what I wanted to do over anything else because the only belongings I thought to save, before the water came in, were my equipment. I knew I wanted to make music. This was the breaking point.” With his urgent, emotive vocals and haunting production, singer/songwriter and producer Trevor Daniel delivers vulnerable, synth-washed confessionals similar to Post Malone and blackbear. The Texan emerged in the late 2010s with a series of singles that soon surpassed the million-stream mark. Trevor Daniel Neill (born September 28, 1994), is an American singer and songwriter. His 2018 single “Pretend” was his first to reach 1 million streams on Soundcloud, which he followed with the track “Mirror” which garnered more than 12 million streams. But it was his single “Falling” that firmly planted Trevor into the mainstream, reaching the Top 10 in nine different countries and appearing on the Hot 100

chart. It is currently climbing the Top 40 radio chart and has been a mainstay on the Spotify US Top 50 chart. His debut EP, Homesick, was released in October 2018 and features the song “Falling”, which hit the charts in more than twenty countries after going viral in 2019. His debut studio album, Nicotine, also features the song. “Falling” iwas released as the lead single from his debut EP Homesick (2018) and his debut studio album Nicotine (2020), by Alamo Records, Internet Money Records, and Interscope Records on October 5, 2018. The song was produced by KC Supreme, Taz Taylor and Charlie Handsome. A year later, the song started gaining popularity on short-form mobile videos platform TikTok and subsequently was added on various Spotify playlists and Viral Charts. It is his first charting single on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 21. The song was conceived in “a matter of hours” during Daniel’s first studio session with record producer Taz Taylor, whose record label, Internet Money, Daniel was previously signed to with Alamo and Interscope in July 2018. Daniel recalls that they attempted to add a second verse to the song, but decided against it, because “the energy just wasn’t the same”. The rough cut was released as the official song. In 2018, Daniel released an initial music video which he described as “more of a short film to me than just a music video, and I’m excited to share my visions with everyone”.[ The video was shot and edited by Mateo Mejia and Esteban Caicedo. With the success of the song, a new official music video was filmed in 2019. It was directed by William Desena and officially premiered on January 15, 2020.

Icons at badassery By Jay Lambs Remy Icons At Badassery Salutes R&R Studio This Month Icons At Badassery would like to honor Roger Ramirez of R&R Studio. Roger was born in Mexico City on July 12, 1984 into a musical family. My parents decided to come to the US (Houston, Texas) in 1993 for a better life for us due to many hardships in Mexico. He played and studied music all throughout Elementary, Junior High, High School and College years. He played many instruments like the Trombone, Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums and have played with all genres of bands. During my college years, He wanted to start a band of my own and He started writing original tunes but at the time, He couldn’t afford to pay a recording studio so He decided to slowly start investing into building something for myself paid by gigging and working. After a few years, He finally had enough saved to start a small recording studio at my dad’s house where He started to have recording sessions and recording artists. After a few years in the scene, He really wasn’t seeing the support from the music scene like he was envisioning. He started to feel like he was getting stuck so he decided to close shop and dedicate myself to just my job. He started working for Houston Methodist Hospital in the AV (Audio Visual Department) and eventually got to meet a few medical educators who started asking me about my music and so I directed them to my YouTube channel so

that they could see a few videos that I had done. A few weeks later, I get an offer to be the Education Technology Administrator for the Debakey Heart and Vascular Center so he took it. Once he started the new job, he started exploring with the Idea of exploring with live streaming live surgeries for educational purposes to a YouTube Channel. Once he started to do this successfully, guess it was just a matter of time to where my two worlds would collide, music and live streaming. It was at this moment where it became clear to me to what I wanted to do. He decided to build a new recording studio where he could live stream live bands to a social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch but still keeps that recording studio quality of the audio and video. He decided that he wanted to do something good for the music community and that he was going to help the bands that needed and wanted help but didn’t have the means to do it. He decided that I wasn’t going to charge bands for this service. As a young musician myself he never received the support from the mu-

sic community and now he wanted it to break that cycle and give all bands a chance to put their music out there with good quality Audio and Video. R&R Studio was born a few years later. He moved to a new location and after lots of sacrifices, He finally accomplished his goal. Houston’s First Online Live Performance Venue was born. We opened up in August 2019 and have currently done over 170 live bands and musical acts. Our Motto is Keeping Live Music Live. R&R Studio BIO R&R Studio is a Houston based recording studio offering state of the art live streaming and audio production services. Our live streaming show, The Venue Live, is primarily streamed to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch. The Venue Live, Houston’s First Online Live Performing Venue, is an opportunity for indie artist to share their music worldwide. Studio owner, Roger Ramirez, has been working in the media production field for over 15 years as a musician, video producer and audio engineer. Roger equipped R&R Studio with 5 isolated booths giving the studio the capability to multi-track from a single musician to a full band. Roger turned his recording studio into a live streaming performance venue. He equipped each booth with cameras and multi-view monitors to achieve this and streams each show through an OBS platform. As a result, indie artists from all over Texas have been able to play for people around the world. The Venue Live is open to showcasing musical talent from all over the world. Warehouse Live will host The Rush Tribute Project on Saturday, June 20th beginning at 8:00pm. Also performing are Mindcrime, A Tribute To Queensryche. Canadian progressive rock band Rush formed in 1968 and are perhaps best known for songs such as “Working Man” and “Tom Sawyer” in addition to their exceptional musicianship and science fiction and fantasy inspired lyrics. The Rush Tribute Project covers their namesake’s entire catalog. “The Rush Tribute Project is one of the most accurate and authentic cover bands playing today,.” “All fans of Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and the late Neil Peart will be thrilled by this tribute.” The Rush Tribute Project is an homage to one of the most enduring and influential bands in rock music. Combining skilled musicianship with exciting performances, RTP brings the magic of Rush’s famous live concerts to clubs and festivals. Covering all forty-plus years of Rush’s amazing career, RTP painstakingly recreates the sound and energy that has made Rush one of the top selling rock bands of all time. With a lineup that has performed Rush tribute shows for over a decade across North America and around the world, including RushCon, RTP stands out as one of the premiere tributes to a legendary band. The Rush Tribute Project plays over three hours of Rush hits and deep cuts in a single performance. They combine skillful playing with an exciting stage show. The threepiece band uses vintage instruments, wardrobe, and sounds to produce an uncanny Rush concert experience that covers over forty years of music. “This show is dedicated to the memory of Rush’s peerless drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.,” Johnson continued. “His legacy will live on through his music.” Nearly every detail of their show is meticulously planned and executed from the scrolling of the album covers and photos on the big screens before the show, to the lights and lasers during the performance.

In a recent article in “Go Venue” magazine, writer Robert Chadwich describes a recent performance stated that, each member of a band has something to contribute. The playing of an instrument or their vocal skills play a part in the overall sound they create as well as the performance they deliver. During this three hour long set and as you might expect, the three members of this band all had their moments of impact. Bill Heck is a savage guitarist who is as much at home strumming chords as he is ripping a solo. His notes are rich and robust, and his phrasing is as clean as a razor. Bill can create that rock crunch sound that

Alex gave us that sounded like two guitars at once. On bass, performing as Geddy Lee was Sean Jones. Hair in a ponytail, circular shades and the ability to play bass, sing and play keyboards has you doing double takes, just to be sure it’s not Geddy himself. Handling this triple duty workload is not easy, but Sean handled it with true expertise. Making four strings sound the way Sean makes them sound is a remarkable feat. Whether slapping or plucking, Sean showed us he is an especially skilled musician. Thomas Slawnik (percussionist) facially resembles Neil and portrays a stoic demeanor that accurately reproduces Neil’s looks on stage. He is a magnificent drummer who like Neil makes you want to air-drum like nobody is watching. He is an ambitious craftsman who fluently utilizes implements like cow bells, blocks and chimes. He plays hard, he plays fast and he plays tastefully. The Rush Tribute Project features Bill Heck (Guitars, Pedals, Vocals), Sean Jones (Bass, Keyboards, Pedals, Lead Vocals), and Thomas Slawnik (Frankenstein collection of Drums and Cymbals).

The Hollywood Spotlight By Hollywood Steve Rangel

Guy Schwartz

JUNE 13 THE FEEL JUNE 27 STARR JERNIGAN

“Under The Influence” Houston’s musical chameleon Guy Schwartz is back with another engaging collection of thoughts, rants, and musings. In true hippy fashion, “Under The Influence” is all over the map (in terms of genre and lyrical perspectives). But it remains vintage Schwartz, combining genuine observations, lighthearted social commentary, and just the right amount of snarkiness with flawless arrangements and high level musicianship to create a unique and truly enjoyable listening experience. This 13 song offering kicks off with “Waltz Across Texas” (no, not that one), on which Schwartz embraces his inner Zappa to convey a story that one might assume is autobiographical. The excellent country-ish ballad “This Is The One” is next, followed by “Bad Storm Coming”. If you accept “storm” as a metaphor for our current predicament, this one is quite timely. The versatility of Schwartz the songwriter continues to be on full display. The piano track “Mac Said To Have A Good Time” is a timeless road trip song, “Lost In Time” sports an 80’s feel, and the perfectly moody “Lonely For You” is steeped in smooth jazz. The slick arrangement of the slightly defiant “Stepping Stone” is accessorized by some nifty solo breaks, and “This Side Of The Mountain” is a gem. The latter has a rich Austin sound and features maybe the best pure singing (as supposed to narrating) performance that Schwartz has ever captured in stu-

dio. Could he just now be reaching his prime?? “Out Of Control” preaches against going down the rabbit hole of excess and power, while “Far Away From Here” and “Lonely One” are classic Schwartz: psychedelic, slightly frantic, and in the case of the Johnny Cash-like “Lonely One”, surprisingly catchy. Anyone who has spent a little time at Houston’s many blues jams will appreciate and relate all-too-well to the instant Schwartz classic “Blues Rumble”, and the smart groove of “Gotta Keep The Music Alive” provides a most appropriate closer. As “Under The Influence” illustrates, it’simpossible to put Guy Schwartz in box. He simply doesn’t sound like anyone else. He’s never tried to. And in that fact, my friends, lies his considerable appeal.
