It’s always a treat to discover a new out-of-town spot for coffee or lunch, and The Geographer in Impington does not disappoint. Open since July last year, this new deli café makes a welcome addition to the independent shops in the villages of Histon and Impington, just north of Cambridge. Owners Caroline and David have carefully renovated this 1920’s building to create an airy, welcoming space which combines a café, delicatessen and store. Inspired by their travel experiences (the name is a nod to The Geographer Café in Melaka, Malaysia) as well as their love of good food, the shop is a treasure trove of unusual gifts, cards, and wine, alongside culinary treats that will make you reminisce about holidays abroad. Maps decorate some of the tables and walls – test your knowledge of Geography by trying to identify the places! Open for breakfast, lunch or afternoon coffee, the menu is fresh and inviting, with daily home-made soup and ciabattas, salads and paninis. Cakes are baked on the premises or delivered from local speciality bakers. Coffee is by Illy and loaves from Cambridge’s own Cobs bakery. On the shelves, we also spotted some of the health foods from Mill Road’s Arjuna, authentic Italian Barilla pasta, stunning Top Moka coffee makers and plenty of ‘free from’ foods. Now that warmer weather is on its way, the outdoor seating soon fills up – and not surprisingly, it’s a very pleasant spot to watch the world go by. There’s also plenty of free roadside parking making impromptu stops for sustenance a doddle. In addition, The Geographer provides a comprehensive catering service, regularly delivering lunches and buffets to neighbouring businesses and beyond.
