@TuckerGardner
Welcome to HouseHunter, our local property & lifestyle magazine... Welcome to the February edition of our HouseHunter magazine. You will find a selection of some of the properties available, both for sale and to let, across our network of local offices. 2013 saw us getting involved in lots of fantastic community events, including being headline sponsors of the Gog Magog Gran Fondo, the Shelford Feast, the Histon and Impington Fireworks and the inaugural Cambridge Bake Off to name just a few, as well as taking part in various activities, such as the Royal Parks Half Marathon, to raise money for local charities. We are always keen to support local events, and I’m pleased to say that we have already committed to supporting many more in 2014. If you are looking for a sponsor please do give us a call and see if we can help. This month sees the return of the Cambridge Bake Off which we are delighted to be involved with again. Last year was a great success with exceptional amateur bakers across Cambridgeshire competing to win the title of Cambridge’s best cake baker, as well as some fantastic prizes. See the back cover for more details on this year’s competition and how to enter. Alex
Residential Sales Jamie Curtis, Associate Director Cambridge Office I have been with TuckerGardner for around 4 years, initially starting in the Histon office. I now head up the Cambridge sales team in one of the busiest property markets in the country. I returned to the city after a number of years in Saffron Walden, Newmarket, Royston and Haverhill, amassing in total over 20 years in estate agency.
TuckerGardner teams care. We listen to each client’s needs and focus solely on what’s best for you. We have a buddy system in place to make sure that there’s always someone in the office to help. We don’t trap sellers in a lengthy agency contract or pressure any of our team to meet internal sales targets, because we don’t actually have any. We treat each sale and person as unique to make it easier (even enjoyable) for you to sell or buy your home. Contact the teams on:

3 WAYS YOU CAN CONNECT TO CAMBRIDGE’S DIGITAL LIFE Cambridge’s cluster of technology businesses, researchers, and academics has created a critical mass of digital culture. Digital communication doesn’t replace the value of living and working in the same place, and Cambridge is an ideal city to find others who share your interests. Here are three ways we have found to get stuck into the local digital network.
1. EVENTS Even in digital communities, real-world events are the best way to make new connections with likeminded folk. We have found great conferences through Software East, who work to bring the best coder speakers to the East of England. Their calendar is well worth following. Other groups like Refresh Cambridge focus on creative types such as designers. A less techy one to watch is the Creating Cambridge Big Summer BBQ, which is great fun! Many bigger conferences are listed on Eventbrite or Lanyrd.com. You can also follow local groups online which organise regular events. Which brings us to number 2.
2. COMMUNITIES Several communities around Cambridge put on regular events which are less conference, more chinwag. These mini-events are more informal, with time to mingle and chat. Most communities are sustained through online discussions, Facebook pages and other ways to connect from your screen. For example, CamCreative meets on the last Wednesday evening of each month. They invite guest speakers and host discussions on anything creative (design, digital, literature). They can be found on meetup.com, and in Hot Numbers coffee – which is worth visiting at any time! Cambridge Network is for businesses of any kind, and they organise all sorts of meetups, workshops and seminars. They also run a very effective jobs board. Another kind of community can be found in shared spaces like CamJelly or Makespace. CamJelly is a coworking space – good for freelancers who want to get out of their home office and for professional networking. Makespace describe themselves as “a community workshop in Cambridge for making and fixing things, meeting people, working on projects and sharing skills.” They have 3D printers. Need we say more? Community meetups offer the same benefits as their conference cousins – but they’re easier and cheaper to get to and offer opportunities for sponsoring, speaking and volunteering, which leads nicely into our final item.
3. CHARITY Cambridge enjoys a wealth of people working to help others. We have seen more and more people contributing their time and digital know-how to help charitable causes. We support one – Good for Nothing – partly because we like puns, and partly because we love the idea of using tech skills to fix real-world problems. Good For Nothing is: “smart folk collaborating and experimenting to solve stuff that matters.” Their first Cambridge-based hackday focused on helping Find a Cure, where people worked on digital projects to support the science of difficult diseases. Volunteering lets you meet others in an interesting context with a common cause. We find collaborating at Good for Nothing to be a great way to connect with new people, and might be just the thing if “networking” doesn’t appeal.
Fluent creates clever online software to get businesses thriving on the web. Fluent is also how we work. From consultancy and development to content and design, we aim for simple, freeflowing websites that are easy to understand and use. We built the tuckergardner.com website and are proud to be a Cambridge company.

Residential Lettings Georgina Hepburn, Property Manager Ely Office During my time at TuckerGardner I have worked on both the sales and lettings side of the company. I have worked within the lettings team at Ely for nearly five years and in this time I have gained my ARLA qualifications.
All of our lettings teams work on the core principle of mutual respect and of trying to do our very best by landlords and tenants alike. The landlord is our client so we must endeavour to look after their interests, recognising that we are custodians of their property and of their money. By the same token, we also have a duty of care to our tenant customers and we must always remember, and respect, the fact that the property is their home for the duration of the tenancy. In each office you will find experienced, friendly individuals who will be happy to help. Contact the teams on: CAMBRIDGE:

THE
BAKE
OFF
IS
BACK
Open to amateur cake bakers across Cambridgeshire, the 2014 Bake Off will see contestants go head to head in four rounds, culminating in a live final at the Cambridge Cookery School. The competition will challenge bakers to create a carrot cake in the first round, a chocolate cake in the second, a fruit and crème patissiere confection in the third and an Easter themed celebration cake to wow the judges in the final. New to this year’s competition, family and friends of the contestants (or anyone who loves cake!) are invited to come along to the results segment of the first round – and to bring a fork with them. They will be able to sample as many cakes as they like for a suggested donation of £5, to be split between the Bake Off’s chosen local charities, Jimmy’s Night Shelter and The Papworth Trust. To enter, all you have to do is email your name, address and contact number – along with a photo of one of your best homemade cakes, and a couple of lines explaining why you love baking – to editorial@cambridge-magazines.co.uk by midnight on Friday 31st January. Entries can also be posted to Cambridge Bake Off, c/o Cambridge Magazine, Winship Road, Milton, Cambridge CB24 6PP. For more details on the competition, including the terms and conditions, visit the Cambridge News website and search ‘Bake Off’. In conjunction with:
