Busyness Does not Equal Productiveness
W
hen we assemble ourselves as a united body of people whether in a public assembly or a private gathering, what happens? Does the power of God flow in our meetings? Are people’s lives being transformed? Is the power of the Word actively flooding our hearts causing radical changes? Are people being refreshed, restored, and renewed? Is the Word of God bringing conviction and repentance? Are people coming in one way but leaving differently? Although these questions may sound challenging to pastors and ministry leaders, it is a relevant subject that we need to talk about as a church. I have said it so often and will say it again, churches are getting old but not growing. Why? There are many attributing factors, and though I may not touch all areas today, it is my desire to delve deeper into this subject in my future newsletters. What marks the success of a growing church? Is it the size or look of the building? Can we base it on the amount of tithes and offering collected or the building fund drive? Is it the accumulative and growing register, prolonged existence of church membership, or longevity of leadership? Is it based on the size of the worship team or band? How about the programs we put together, which is comprised of the same circle of people and similar to last years agenda? While some of these can have some value and weight to what we call “ministry”, the question is still being asked, how effective is this ministry, this church, and what we do? One of the marks of a growing church is the youth. Our youth is a relevant part of God’s Kingdom. Sad to say, many churches have forgotten about our youth. We try to win them over by singing “How Great Thou Art”, not understanding that it is after they have come into the fold that they will truly understand how great and awesome He is. Remember when Jesus said follow me, and I will make you fishers of men, and he that win souls is wise? Well, please understand that all fish do not take the same bait. Your teenage son or daughter may not embrace the songs, music, and fashion that inspired you in your days or even today. Sometimes we forget and our drive to cause them to change results in frustration on both parties and does more damage than good. The same Scripture that commands children to honor their father and mother also says parents do not provoke your children to wrath (Ephesians 6). Rest assure that God is more concerned with people’s heart and soul than they are looking on the outside. Change begins from the inside out. We need to teach people how to live but allow the Holy Spirit to bring the conviction. Lead others to Christ by your love, compassion, and witness as opposed to teaching a dogmatic doctrine set of church rules. Doctrine is a body of ideas that are taught to people as truthful or correct. While doctrine in of itself is not a bad thing, we must proceed with caution, being careful that the rules or principles that form the basis of a belief or policy are not a distorted view or faulty interpretation of the Word of God.

While there is a personal responsibility every believer must take, there is also a heavy liability placed on leadership. We must be careful that our churches have not become a social gathering or a lukewarm container where the power of God is diminished and the Holy Spirit grieved by the traditions of men. Remember, busyness does not equal productiveness. This newsletter is geared to cause us to look within and see where we can become a better church, a better people, a more effective ministry where those who are hurting or lost can find rest, hope, and the will of God for their lives. os Angeles, CA (May 4,2011) - Nashville based gospel singer, entrepreneur and conference founder CeCe Winans continues Sharing The Vision and empowering youth with her three day conference. Always Sisters, Forever
Brothers is back for its’ 5th year at the Curb Event Center located at Belmont University in Nashville, TN July 2123. In 2005 Winans launched Always Sisters to promote the true value of pure sisterhood and friendship. Her
long-time dream to reach young girls was created so that the older sisters could pour love, wisdom and knowledge into the younger sisters. Winans wanted the young women to learn what sisterhood is all about and to teach the importance of loving God, themselves and others. In 2009 she decided it was time to broaden the vision and include young men, so the organization’s name was then changed to Always Sisters, Forever Brothers with the goal of empowering and equipping young male & females simultaneously. “I am so excited about having the opportunity to make a positive impact on this generation. I know they will in turn affect positive change on the generations to come. My experience has been that young people want to be loved, heard, understood and told the truth”, says Winans. The 2011 conference will feature an array of talented speakers and music performances with emphasis on the importance having a male foundation in the family setting. Over the years disturbing statistics have been reported about the effects of young people without fathers or father figures, leaving single mothers to do their best to take on the responsibilities of both parental roles. This year the registrants will hear from strong men and women who will speak into their lives as family, spiritual leaders, friends, mentors and positive role models. Special guest speakers: Dr. I.V. Hilliard, Judge Greg Mathis, Matt Pitt, CeCe Winans. Panelists: Kim Daniels, Nancy Alcorn, Dr. Deirdra Jackson and Warren Ballentine. Topics will
include Love or Lust (dating violence, bullying, anger) Do You See What I See (self esteem and addictions), Oh Daddy Where Art Thou (the effects of and living beyond fatherlessness) What Will It Cost to Be Your Own Boss (AIDS, STD’s, Teen pregnancy – from hopelessness to hope), Sick and Tired (Health) and so many more issues that young people face daily. Conference and Concert Guests: Mary Mary, Fred Hammond and Mali Music. On Saturday, July 23 the conference will wrap on a musical note showcasing: Lacrae, Canton Jones, Tamela Mann, Preashea Hilliard, Voices of Destiny and will be hosted by David “Mr. Brown” Mann of “Meet The Browns.” Luncheon Speakers: Alvin Love - for males only; Mom Winans - for parents only; and Demetrius Stewart - for teen mothers. Making the dream a reality could not be done without the support of loyal event sponsors such as Verizon Wireless, Mercy Ministries, How Sweet The Sound and internet partner UGospel.com. Donations and registrations can be done via internet and ranges from $72 - $130 with single purchase of concert tickets available for $17. amaul Francis, is the newly and innovated all rounded Gospel singer in his generation. His character, image and style are a mixture of glamour, essence, and are ashore in a Christ-like approach. Hailing from the gorgeous island of Jamaica, Damaul’s style of music is a muddle of subculture R&B, reggae, soul, hip-hop, a little sing rap, pop, mixed with the twist of his own uniqueness but most of all originality. One-Step Pro Music Productions is where is currently established right now. However, He is still unsigned to a major record label. Damaul is the oldest of eight siblings of his parents. He was born at the Spanish Town Hospital, in Spanish Town, Jamaica West Indies. He loves to Write as well as sing all genres of clean and positive gospel music. He started singing at just four years old. When he was six, Damaul sang a popular song by the Grace Thriller called “Can’t even Walk without your holding my hands” on Power 105.1FM, one of the most famous radio stations in Jamaica. He attended Church with his grandmother every Sunday, just like the majority of young boys in Jamaica would back in those days. Damaul Francis attended the Mineral Heights Primary School, in the parish of Clarendon. Damaul Francis baptized at the age of thirteen. He was member of the Halse Hall Seventh-day Adventist Church located in May Pen, Clarendon. He graduated from Mineral Heights Primary School in 1998; he attended Clarendon College High School, where he studied for one and a half year. He migrated to the United States of America in the year 2001. He attended the Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn. He worked at the Cross Road Bedding and Furniture Corporation, after school hours. He visited nursing homes in Brooklyn, and he is involved in community services, helping and feeding the needy in his community. Damaul graduated from High School in 2006. In 2007, he attended the Kingsborough Community College. Presently he attends the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) where he studies (VAT) Video art & Technology and a minor in Business Management. At present Damaul Francis has ministered in music throughout the entire five boroughs of New York City, and all of the tri-states. He has ministered in various other states in the United States of America, other states such as New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Wisconsin, Chicago, and Rhoads Island, just to name few. Damaul began recording in 2009 but more seriously in 2010. Music in general has always played an important part in Damaul’s life. Growing up music was his way of staying out of trouble. “Music is the healing of the world’’; he stated at a radio interview on 96.7fm in 2009. He said, “Music is like a therapy to my sinful soul and this remedy allows me to glimpse myself as a role model to my peers, and I want to help people believe that their dreams can really come through”. His greatest influences came from the 1990’s. From the likes of Bob Marley “One Love”, Michael Jackson “We Are the World” and others. Damaul currently has a couple of songs on the scene, “Courage
Damaul Francis to stand”, “Mama”, and “Back on my knees” just to name a few. These songs show the transition from traditional black gospel to the future. Damaul finished recording his Single entitled “Courage to stand” and his debut album in 2010 called “Manner of Devotion & Praise Gospel Anthology vol. 1” which includes a remixed version his hit single “Courage to Stand”. His songs are being played on radio stations in the United States of America, England, Canada, Germany, and South America and in the Caribbean. The official single that is linked to the effort confirmed as “Courage to Stand”. This single is full of unity and it encourages people to take a stand for Jesus. • See the continuation of Damaul’s biography in next edition.

Do You Know That the Struggle For Power Is by Veronica Thawney Constant and Alarming? Enduring Spirit Editor-in-Chief/CEO
The struggle for power is always a one man’s battle. It always starts with those who are anxious to take the place of another. Satan, the chief angel in heaven got so caught up with power struggle that he was thrown out of heaven and as a result, continues to influence our minds to be a part of his scheme. Evidence of this can be seen in the Esau and Jacob’s story where Jacob cheated Esau of his birthright. Unfortunately, this will be so until the end of time and you and I are automatically a part of it. Today, though we may not be consciously aware of a power struggle in our minds, the influence of sin on our lives has provided no way of escape unless our minds are centered on God. For even though we may not be the ones seeking the power, we become a part of the campaign; but at some point in time, we have to show whose side we are on. As we look at the world today, and see that we are in the end time, we will notice how easily men are drafted into Satan’s kingdom. Bob Marley said in one of his songs, “There is a natural mystic flowing in the air.” This is certainly so in this present time. Economical pressure, peer pressure, religious pressure, political pressure are causing minds to be crippled, eyes to be blinded, love to fail and people to become cold and selfish. Satan is now profiting from our foolish reactions to our living conditions. This is wide spread and even the churches have to be careful not to get caught up in this predicament. Jesus came and he showed love to the poor and brokenhearted; fed the multitude; welcomed those who no one thought much of and sat with sinners. It is time for us to build the Kingdom of God and we can only do so by showing love and
compassion. Jesus told us in Luke 10:27, …”Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” We should always remember that the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy. He is always trying to destroy God’s Kingdom in order to build his. Recently, I sent two friends who were looking for a church family, to visit a particular church. After attending they told me they would never go back, although they liked the sermon. The problem was they never felt welcomed. They felt out of place. These are some of the tricks that the devil uses to distract us from God’s kingdom. I overheard a student saying to another, “School is nothing.” I guess she was feeling discouraged, which we sometimes do, but we have to remain focused. I met with people who seemed Ok, but after speaking to them, I discovered that they are living in a shelter. This is another trap of the devil to distract our attention from the hope we have in God and place it on the economical conditions we are faced with. My brothers and sisters I cannot do it alone, neither can you. So let us consider the fact that if we fail to love and care for each other, the devil will gain and God’s Kingdom will suffer loss. Finally, let us all come together for the purpose of building the Kingdom of God through the gospel and having compassion for each other. If we can’t work together in unity here then it will be impossible to do so in Heaven.

SPECIAL TEACHING CONTINUED FROM LAST ISSUE... The fifth step to Revival is having Unity. Before we continue this section on unity, I want to bring us to our scripture verse for this Article. God said, “and if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land” ( 2 Chronicles 7:14 NASB ).. Jesus told his disciples, that “if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my father which is in heaven” (Mathew 18:19,KJV). “For,” he continued, “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Mathew 18:20, KJV). We also read that on the day of Pentecost, the disciples were together in one accord in one place. The Bible tells us. “Not forsaking

Here are some facts that one needs to understand: It’s already been proven that Cancer Cells thrive in an Acid environment; sugar is acid. Cancer cells cannot grow or live in an “Alkaline” environment. Free Radicals and Aging, go hand-inhand. From a scientific point, free radicals are molecules that are produced in the “mitochondria” in our cells. As we breathe, the mitochondria convert 95 % of the oxygen to help turn food into fuel, and we’re giving

However, during the process, the mitochondria sometimes “misplace” electrons, which are then called “free radicals” (which bond indiscriminately with other molecules). This leads to what we call “oxidation”. Too many free radicals create “cellular pollution” which increases aging and can cause cancer. During my medical practice years (I am retired from my practice), but, am deeply involved with ANTIOXIDANT therapy and MICRONUTRITION which is the foundation for Extended Healthy Longevity.

The Battle is NOT Yours

ave you ever felt like you’ve been attacked from every angle and the moment seemed inescapable? Have you ever felt there is no more strength within you to fight your battles and all your hope and dream dissipate before they are realized? I know you have, but I’m here to remind you that you need not despair, for the battle is not yours; it is the Lord’s. The story is told in 2 Chronicles 20 of the great army that rose up against Jehoshaphat. He became afraid thinking that his army is too small to fight against this great army. But as he sought the help of the Lord, the Spirit of God came upon one of the men there who said in verse 15, “Listen, all ye people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged
by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours but God’s…..take your position, then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” The story went on to tell us that as the people sang praises unto God, the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir started to fight among themselves. The armies of Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. That’s the power of the God we serve. David said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me.” My friend, no matter the storm you are going through right now, fear no evil for God is with you. When your foes rise up against you, rest in the protective arms of God. The darts the enemy assailed you, they will not
destroy you. The blessings God has in store for you cannot be hindered by man. Continue to put your faith and confidence in God and He will direct your path. ‘ He will prepare a table in the presence of your enemies.’ Confuse the enemy with your smiles for you know the God you serve and ‘no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper’. When your enemy is hungry give him food; when he is thirsty give him drink; when he is naked feed him; reach out to him in spite of how you feel. When your heart is heavy with the burden of unforgiveness, ask God to replace it with a heart of love. Ask him to give you the strength to leave all revenge to Him for the battle is not yours; it’s the Lord’s. Don’t be fooled! You can’t do it on your own, but with the help of God you can. Fear not my friend, for God is with you. Leave the battle to Him and watch Him bring victories to your life.
B eaten down or S lifted up ?! piritual attacks come in many forms. Some are very obvious and others very subtle. When I first started in the healing ministry thirty years ago, I didn’t even know what a spiritual attack was. It just seemed that before a healing service everything seemed to go wrong in my life and when the service was over, things would go back to normal. I finally saw the correlation between the two events and vowed that the attacks would not stop me. Once I made that decision, the attacks seemed less severe. Often spiritual attacks come through those closest to us and this makes them very painful to go through. The people being used against us, however, are often totally unaware of what is happening and how they are being used against us. It took me years to learn that God allowed these attacks so that out of them He could bring a blessing to me. When you realize that this is true, you can go through them with a very different attitude. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself and feeling that God doesn’t care about what happens

Some of the attacks that come against us are Satan reminding us of our past and what we have done, which makes us question if we are truly forgiven and whether we are in good standing with God. Most spiritual battles take place in our minds, and this is why we are called to keep renewing our minds and taking captive our thoughts so they may not be used against us. By reading the Word and meditating upon it, we can know what God is calling us to do in each situation. There will be spiritual attacks against us as long as we are trying to do the will of God. Some we may have allowed by the choices we have made, but others are the enemy trying to stop us. Begin to ask God to help you through each attack and then to show you the blessing He has for you when the attack is over. Psalm 55 ****** Rev. Response by Valerie Samuel I think that all volunteer programs for churches and nonprofits should be planned initially before implementing. In contrast, an organization that occasionally uses volunteers to stuff envelopes, might do a brief solicitation to recruit any volunteers that the organization can get and then do a very brief training, afterwards leaving the volunteers alone to perform their task. However, an organization that is planning for their annual campaign may might be best served by outsourcing to a qualified trainer or agency for a more comprehensive training program to ensure that all volunteers are well verse in the expectations.

Rev. Dr. G. Brown, in Bronx, NY, asked:
I need a fundraising plan to make up for declining member tithes, pledges and offerings, what would you recommend?
Response by Valerie Samuel I recommend that you put together your annual fundraising plan, meet with your staff, board and committee chairs and get them to buy into the plan initially. Once they are comfortable with the plan then it is time to communicate your vision to the entire membership to educate them on the goals and ask for their support. Remember to ask for volunteers mainly this time of year because people are looking for great causes to devote time and resources.

Response by Valerie Samuel Pastor Brooks, from all the research I have seen it appears that the philanthropic motives that underlie giving to nonprofits bear many similarities form one field to another and that includes religious fundraising too! Donors want to help improve communities or partner with causes that make a difference and therefore, they target specific kinds of groups to make their investments in.

I would also add that these same donors much like your members inside your congregation crave both appreciation and information and really want to know how their gifts are being used. I would suggest that you keep them informed and involved and this will improve your chances of receiving donations much more frequently above and beyond the regular tithes, pledges and offerings.

The Story of
Nelvin Williams
I
Written by Naomi Williams (wife)
t was the 1st of January, 1991, after coming home from Watch Night service, that a drunken driver hit the car in which Nelvin Williams, my husband was travelling. He fell out of the car, along with a little girl that he had sitting on his lap. They were both ran over by the wheels of the car. Nelvin’s both feet were crushed. A doctor at the Kingston Public Hospital told him he would never be able to walk again. He spent four months in the hospital trying to recuperate and eventually came home as a baby. He had to crawl on his butt for he was unable to walk. Nelvin has had several surgeries trying to correct the problem. While he was in the hospital, he saw in a dream, a woman showing him her hands and who said to him, “Your legs are going to look as beautiful as my hands.” He had the assurance that he would walk again. In 1992, we migrated to the United States with Nelvin in a wheelchair. He had to use a cane to help him walk as he was unable to do so without support. A friend named Monica took us to Nassau County Hospital and a doctor there told Nelvin that he would be able to move on with his life if the foot is amputated and replaced with a prosthetic one. But because we knew that God was able to perform a miracle, we prayed and He came through for us. The surgery was done and both legs were made the same length. And although he now wears a brace, he is functioning normally and is employed in a regular 9 -5 job, but most importantly, he is driving again. God is God and the devil is a liar. Nothing that he tried with Nelvin ever succeeded. After Nelvin’s foot was healed, he was attacked with prostate cancer, but God performed another miracle and healed his body approximately twelve years ago. Today he is alive and well and is doing his best for the Lord.

HEALTH True or False?
Diet in the Key of Cee – Eating Well Serves Living Well

M
y client, after visiting me for counseling and education on high cholesterol, afterwards brought me an article by a ‘certified nutrition specialist’ and certified personal trainer. He was answering the question “Are whole eggs or egg white better for you?, and proceeded to say how mistaken people are to think that the egg yolk was the worst part of the egg, as the yolk carries most of the nutrients of the egg. He proceeded to say that by throwing out the yolk, you are essentially throwing out “the most nutrient dense, antioxidant-rich, vitamin and mineral loaded part of the egg” He is suggesting that one should go ahead and eat eggs as high cholesterol is not a disease, and
I
since he eats 4 whole eggs a day and maintains “single digit body fat most of the year” While the above is true, the fact is eggs are not a major source of these vitamins and minerals. Yet one egg contains all the daily cholesterol the body needs. Most of us eat more than one egg at breakfast. His position is from a food specific point of view. He is simply comparing each part of the egg to the other. Keep in mind that he is not looking or even considering total daily intake, which of course if you are a carnivore, will most likely include meat at lunch and dinner, and other fatty snacks in between. This is where the true expertise is. In making the connection between intake and how it may affect the body, the nutrition professional considers the overall intake of specific, and total nutrients to better educate and counsel. As a personal trainer, most likely he concentrates on calories and weight. And indeed that is why the federal regulatory agencies make clinical dietetic services – which are regulated -distinct from weight loss programs, which are not.
Cholesterol is a fat, and yes, if you burn it through exercise you will not have any deposits to harm you. Wrong or misleading information (not put in perspective) can kill. It is quite unlikely for you not to get enough cholesterol if you are a meat eater - and even if you are a vegetarian. As he so rightly said, the body makes its own cholesterol. But why are we talking about cholesterol? A high cholesterol intake (over 200mg daily) is indicated as a risk of heart disease. To say that eating egg yolks may help you to burn calories better is simply saying what dietitians have always taught; when you eat a balanced meal or diet (the whole egg carries most nutrients, albeit in minute amounts) your metabolism is elevated, thus burning calories more efficiently.
If you are told you have high cholesterol, are overweight, have high blood pressure, diabetes, or want to prevent all of these conditions without compromising taste or nutrition, see a registered dietitian (RD). Allergies 101: Spring Cleaning
t’s that time of the year again – the spring equinoxwhen the day and the night are approximately 12 hours each. This is when our north pole tilts towards the sun while the sun is at the midpoint of the sky. March 20th is the official start of spring and for the most part most people welcome this time of the year as they’ve been looking forward to nice weather. Eagerly anticipating warmer days, we quiver at the thought of the dreaded allergies that accompany this time of the year. While more than half of the American populous suffers from some sort of allergy, many are affected by the seasonal type. This means that a person is troubled with

a family history of allergies is commonly seen. Finally, one should determine if it is high season for allergies by looking at the time of year? Although seasonal allergies can be irksome, let’s thank God that this is not a chronic or debilitating disease. Common over the counter measures include corticosteroids, antihistamines and decongestants. Simple measures like avoiding the outdoors during the hours of 5a.m. to 10 a.m., showering/washing your face and nostrils when you return home, cleaning all blinds, washing all drapery and all linen and remaining in an air conditioned room- as this works as a barrier method. I suppose the term, “spring cleaning” is most appropriate at this point and by employing these suggestions you will definitely have some relief from the dreaded allergies. Prepare for Legalization with IJLEF Membership
F
- By Janet Howard -
or an immigrant who is not yet a citizen, everyday life in the United States could be very precarious. A little oversight about one’s past conduct could provide grounds for inadmissibility leading to deportation or leading to removability upon returning to the United States after a trip abroad. Or, even less obvious, being handed over to the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) by law enforcement officials after venturing near the Canadian border an area where USCIS officers are more vigilant than they are in New York City. What this means is that non-citizen immigrants must have up-to-date information on their status so that they can avoid situations that may expose them to grounds for inadmissibility. Yes, it is true that life in the United States for an immigrant could be a ‘mine field’. One of the ways that non-citizen immigrants can obtain up-to-date information on their status and the kinds of violations that could lead to a finding of inadmissibility is for them to become members of the Immigrant Journal Legal & Educational Fund, Inc. (IJLEF). I know of an individual who once attempted to enter the U.S. from Canada with false identification, but was discovered by the USCIS and sent back to Canada. Later, this person received a visa to come to the U.S. lawfully. After spending a number of years in the U.S. the individual filed papers to adjust his status to that of a permanent resident. The resulting investigation by USCIS led to the discovery of this earlier violation [INA Sec. 212(a)(6)(A)], which provided ground of inadmissibility, subjecting this individual to deportation. The attorney in this case was able to obtain a waiver for this violation, but it would have been much wiser for this individual to know the consequence of this violation before attempting to adjust his status. In this rather uncertain climate what might an immigrant do? Well, one of the options available is membership in the IJLEF. As a member of the IJLEF, one joins a community that not only provides valuable service to immigrants, but one also becomes part of a community dedicated to advocating the issues and interests of the immigrant community. One of the key benefits of membership is free in-person consultations on all legal matters including immigration. Of all the benefits of being a member of the IJLEF, this benefit is of supreme importance. You may be contemplating some type of legal action and are unsure about the exact nature of the violation or your rights. Well, all you need to do is make a call and you will receive the necessary information so that you can make an informed decision. Free in-person consultations are not the only benefits available. Members also get a free picture
ID, assistance to open a bank account and get a tax ID, healthcare discounts, free monthly informational seminars, and a discount on the preparation of their tax returns. All these benefits far exceed the annual membership fee of $150.

Despite some of the problems, many of us still believe that the United States in the best place to live and raise one’s family at this point in time. Thus, you have a special duty to your family and other loved ones to take the steps necessary to preserve the level of comfort that you have attained. A CALL FOR CHANGE! Young Black Males: An Endangered Species
I
n October 2010, the Council of the Great City Schools published, “A Call for Change” This article identified the social and educational factors contributing to the outcomes of black males in urban schools in which it compiled data ranging from infant mortality rates to adult earnings to show the enormous challenges facing America’s black children-especially black boys. The report by Michael Casserly stated that the nation’s young black males are in a state of crisis. They do not have the same opportunities as their male or female counterparts across the country. Their infant mortality rates are higher, and their access to health care is more limited. They are more likely to live in single-parent homes and less likely to participate in early childcare programs. They are less likely to be raised in a household with a fully employed adult, and they are more likely to live in poverty. As adults, black males are less likely than their peers to be employed. At almost every juncture, the odds are stacked against these young men in ways that result in too much unfulfilled potential and too many fractured lives. We are therefore Calling for Change in the Achievement Gaps. In 2009, among fourth-graders, the gaps between the percentage of black boys in large cities scoring at or above
proficient and the percentage of white boys in public schools across the nation scoring at or above proficient were 27 percentage points in reading and 39 percentage points in math. There is also a Call for Change in the College and Prison Populations. In 2008, black males age 18 and older accounted for 5 percent of the college population, but 36 percent of the prison population. We are Calling for Change in the Unemployment Rate and Income Gap. In the second quarter of 2010, among adults age 20 and older, the unemployment rate of black males was twice as high as that of white males. In 2006, black males age 18 and older earned, on average, lower incomes than white males with similar educational backgrounds. From the above statistics one can see the astounding disparity. Racism has historically been one of the most prominent American cultural frames and has played a major role in determining how whites perceive and acts toward blacks. However, in addition to racial and nonracial
political and economic forces, the two major types of cultural forces in play are (1) national views, and beliefs on race, and (2) cultural traitsshared outlooks, modes of behavior, traditions, belief systems, worldviews, values, skills, preferences, styles of self-presentation, etiquette, and linguistic patterns-that emerge from patterns of intra-group interaction in various settings and the collective experiences in these settings. For the change to be effected there has got to be a new agenda within our school system. Innercity youngsters should be prepared for higher-paying and stable jobs. Public education must be improved to include the study of core values, and promoting job training programs to enhance employment opportunities for inner-city residents. This can be achieved by providing apprenticeship programs from as early as junior high school. There should also be a focus on revitalizing poor urban neighborhoods, including eliminating abandoned buildings and vacant lots to make them more attractive for

By The Educator Veronica Lyle economic investment that would help improve the quality of life, create jobs in the neighborhood, and promote self-worth. For those committed to fighting inequality, especially those involved in multiracial coalition politics, and community outreach programs, we must fight to ameliorate the primary problem feeding concentrated poverty: inner-city joblessness. Given our devastating recent recession and slow, jobless recovery, it is especially important to address core values in our public school system, social gatherings, churches, etc. Along with these recommendations, there is also a call for the shift in attitudes; for, although culture partly determines behavior, it also enables people to change behaviors. Young men, step up to the plate!

ather, life seems so unjust, so unfair. The pain of rejection is almost more than I can bear. My past relationships have ended in strife, anger, rejection and separation. Lord, help me to let go of all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity). You are the One who binds up and heals the broken-hearted. I receive your anointing that destroys every yoke of bondage. I receive your emotional healing by faith, and I thank you for giving me the grace to stand firm until the process is completed. Thank you for wise counselors. I acknowledge the Holy Spirit as my Wonderful Counselor. Following God’s Direction For You and Your Marriage
G
od is perfectly capable of turning any apparent catastrophe into a means of blessings. God is good and His plan is good. So your best bet is to follow His directions for your life as a husband or wife. No matter how intimate your relationship, or firm your commitment is, all married people find their mates annoying or maddening at times. So how is one to accept, not endure, an ill-mannered or irritating spouse? The concept of God’s grace and goodness do provide an adequate answer. The Bible requires that we do more, far more than tolerate one another. We are to forbear one another in love and this involves something different from putting up with our mates with a resigned sigh. Ephesians 4:32 says:
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” We are to accept each other as God accepts us. Romans 15:7 “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” We are to show evidence of the spiritual fruits of love, patience and kindness. Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness” Christian relationships must include more than willingness to remain involved because of God’s grace. We are supposed to accept one another. There is a difference between accepting your mate and enjoying your mate; the former is a requirement and the latter is
a blessing. The experience of accepting your spouse depends upon the work of forgiveness which in turn depends upon a willingness to see the offensive behavior of your spouse in biblical context. Our goal as marriage partners must be to minister to our mates.

Bishop Dr. Michael A. Frith
How do you know the will of God concerning your life’s partner? I am presently in a relationship, but I’m not sure if that’s where I should be.
ANSWER: You will have to ask yourself some questions, and if you have doubt then you already know deep down the answer and if that is truly your life’s partner. You have to look at what your values are and what are your beliefs. God wants us with someaone that lines up with our beliefs and values. If you are saved then you know you should be aligned with someone that is equally yoked. Then you have to know for a life partner there should be commonalities between you. There should be more positives than negatives, bearing in mind there is no ideal utopian relationship, but that there is that someone God has designed specifically for you and that person will be a perfect fit for you; enhancing and complimenting you, your values, and your faith. Often-times we know intuitively that the person that we may be in a relationship with isn’t the one God has ordained for us but we still hold on even when we should let go. At such times it is highly unlikely that God will allow that right person to come into your life, seeing that the place is already occupied by a wrong one. You have to be willing to walk out, crawl-out, run-out, jump-out, or just plain get out by faith believing that if I let this go God will bless me with someone that is truly His choice for me. Remember, it is the “peace of God” that umpires your soul. The Bible declares, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). Choosing a life partner requires your being sure about your choice, and that reassurance is nestled in a settled “peace”; not being sure tells you that the alarm is sounding in your soul, and that decision would be a no-no.
Why is it so hard at times to know what God is saying especially when things are not going the way you would want them to?
ANSWER: At times we get so busy with everyday life that we are not still enough before God to hear Him; still in movement and still in mind. God is always speaking you just have to make time to hear Him, and tune your soul to know His voice and receive. This is accomplished by spending quality alone-time with the Lord. You must clear your mind by casting your care upon Him and engaging your mind in the reading of His Word and seeking His face through prayer and supplication. There are times when God will use mundane everyday things to speak to us; He sends messages to us throughout our day through bill-boards, one-line words and phrases, through diligent study of His Word, through people, through a conversation with someone where He will use that person to say something in regards to where he wants you to be or what he wants you to be doing. Being in tune with His Word and being able to discern His voice is the key to knowing the will of God concerning you your choices, and your direction (Isaiah 30:21). There are times we second-guess God or we ignore that still-small voice inside us telling us which way to go; sometimes we even go directly against that voice and take another route, then we find God frustrating our plans and it won’t go smoothly because that is not the direction He wants you to take. Knowing God’s will can be simplified in three ways, sometimes He will say: NO, meaning do not proceed any further, or GO meaning proceed with grace and blessing, or SLOW, meaning proceed prayerfully, cautiously, and circumspectly; bearing in mind that there is a process being completed in you to accommodate the request you have made, and the answer requires divine providence and timing (wait!). When things are not going the way you may want you need to ask yourself questions about why you make the choices you do and to what end have you made those choices. You must look at the choices from different perspectives prayerfully, because quite often when we encounter difficulties on the path it indicates that we may have failed to acknowledge God somewhere in our decision making process. The Bible declares in Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path.” It is my prayer also for you that you surround yourself with wise and prayerful people, because in the multitude of counselors there is safety. (Proverbs 11:14)
I want to pursue my dream as a Psychologist, but every time I plan to start college something always happens to distract me. What should I do? ANSWER: If being a Psychologist is something you really want to do you have to find a way to stay focused. Make a list of your short term and long term goals and what steps it would take in order to get you on that path to becoming a psychologist. Do some research into the colleges that are near you and find one that offers you the degrees in the field you would need in order to obtain your PhD. Things will always come to distract you; it is for you to stay focused and prayerfully push past the source of your distraction. Many in life aspire, but only few attain. Don’t allow yourself to be only a dreamer, get into gear and make it happen for yourself, Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (Psalm 37:4) The only one that can stop you from living out your dream is you. You have to ask yourself the question “How badly do I want it?” Could it be that you subconsciously use the distractions as an excuse not to confront some hidden fears? You need to look within and see what or if anything within you could possibly be holding you back. Perhaps fear of success or fear you won’t be able to do it. If you really want it bad enough then no matter what distractions may come your way, discipline yourself and stay focused because when you know what you want and what it will take to get you there, God will make all grace abound toward you, giving you the favor and stamina to fulfill your dream. The Bible declares, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8) Step out by faith and go achieve and live your dream! Remember time waits on no one, and procrastination is the greatest theft of time. Either way you have to push past the distractions and put faith and desire into action, no longer just talking and aspiring to do it but actually doing it no matter what. (Philippians 4:13)
I have been married for twelve years and have never been recognized by my husband on Valentine’s Day or even for my birthday. It makes me feel very unloved especially when my girlfriend shared the good times she has had with her husband at these particular times. Do you think that my husband has fallen out of love with me? If so, how can I win back his love? ANSWER: Valentine’s Day is really an over commercialized day that has conditioned many of us to read too much into the traditionally commercialized expression of love. We must look at the bigger picture, what is one day in comparison to 364 days out of the year? How does your husband treat you all year round? Does he show you love and appreciation throughout the year? That should be what’s important. You shouldn’t compare your marriage with your girlfriends because you don’t know their whole story. I understand it may hurt you or make you feel sad to see or hear what your girlfriend’s husband does for her. Perhaps you can ask your husband if you do not already know what his opinion of Valentine’s Day is and why he doesn’t do nice things for you. In saying that however I do hope that he is fully aware of your value of Valentine’s Day, because you have been doing nice things for him. You should let him know what you like, and what makes you happy, but do remember to compromise especially if he does loving and sweet things for you throughout the year, not just because it’s Valentine’s Day. In regards to your birthday, have you discussed with your husband how you feel and what it would mean to you if he could do special things for you on your birthday. Give him a variety of things that would make you smile so he could choose on his own what he would like to do for you on your special day. Giving him suggestions is letting him know what you would like that would make you feel special and make you happy also, allowing him to do one of those things for you and not feel like you’re telling him to do a specific thing would probably be better. There are times when a woman may drop hints expecting their man to pick up on them and just know what to do, but unfortunately some men are slow that way. There comes a time when a woman just has to verbalize to her man what that day means to her and that she would love for him to do special things for her on that day and how much it would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes I would even dare to say that a woman may need to train her husband how to please her. It was George Eliot who said, “A supreme love, a motive that gives a sublime rhythm to a woman’s life, and exalts habit into partnership with the soul’s highest needs, is not to be had where and how she wills: to know that high initiation, she must often tread where it is hard to tread, and feel the chill air, and watch through darkness.” Shakespeare said, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind”. And the Bible declares, “…Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame. Many waters cannot quench love; neither can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with everything he owned, his offer would be utterly despised.” (Song of Sol. 8:6b-7) NLT

Spiritual Warfare: Common Warfare Dreams (Pt.2) Continued from last issue
3. Nakedness in a dream.
If you find yourself naked in a dream and you frantically look for clothes to cover your nakedness, the enemy is about to bring embarrassment and disgrace into your life. If you find yourself naked in a dream, you need to search your life to see if you are involved in anything that can bring embarrassment and do something about it immediately. If you cannot think of anything, you need to bind every plan of the enemy to embarrass and disgrace you.
4. Removal of hair in the dream.
In women, your hair represents glory. Hence the removal of it in a dream is very significant. You need to pray against your glory being tampered with by the enemy.
5. Dreams that indicate witchcraft activities.
# Being pursued by mentally deranged person. # Attacks by dangerous animals. # Being shot with gun or arrow in a dream. # Feeling pressed down on the bed and unable to get up even when awake. # Bats. These usually indicate that hypocrites are going to be set loose against you. # Cobwebs and spiders. These and other Halloween favorites point to witchcraft activities. It is not unusual for such dreamers to wake up and literally run into cobwebs all day.
6. Dreams that indicate attack of a profitless and confused life.
# Traveling but not reaching your destination. # Traveling to an unknown destination. # Driving in a fog or in a cloud of dust.
7. Dreams that indicate warfare of delay.
# Waiting for a bus, taxi, ship, train, airplane or any mode of transportation that never comes. # Traveling in a traffic hold up.
8. “Almost there but never there.”
There are people whose lot in life seems to be that just before they get something good, it is snatched from them. Such people are under the attack of what I call, “almost there but never there.” Such people have dreams along these lines: # Not finishing examinations before time expires. # Doors closing before they get inside. # Free gifts finishing before it gets to their turn on the distribution line. In real life, those who have such dreams will have a hard time attaining their goals and heart’s desires. Their lives will be a cycle of disappointments and unfulfilled promises. I have seen those who almost get married but never do, almost get a job but never do, almost pass an examination but fail by one or two points. Others have had to jump from one business venture to another and from one profession to another. Life for such people is one of stagnancy, frustration and discouragement. It is an attack of the enemy. They need to pay attention to and do something about their dreams.
9. Dreams that indicate attacks against the dreamer’s spiritual life.
Generally, these dreams should alert the believer to the fact that the enemy wants to downgrade their spiritual walk. # Smoking or consuming alcohol in the dream. # Eating in the dream. This is usually followed by a period of weariness, tiredness and laziness in prayer. Just as physical food weighs down the eater physically, so does this weigh the dreamer down spiritually. # Drinking and bathing in dirty water. This is nothing but spiritual and even physical poisoning. # Loss of Bibles.
10. Dreams that indicate loss.
# Having abortion in a dream # Losing blood in a dream # Taken to an unfamiliar location and abandoned. These dreams, foretell of loss of intimate friends and good relationships. They have also resulted in loss of favors in the lives of many dreamers.
11. Initiations in dreams.
Many innocent people have slept only to wake up initiated into various demonic societies as a result of dreams they had. Pay particular attention to these dreams: # Finding yourself in strange meetings eating strange food with strange people. # Swimming in the water with strange people or strange creatures. # Getting married to strange husbands in dreams.
12. Contact with the dead.
Many dreamers can find themselves having contacts with their dead relatives, ancestors and friends. I have heard of people who even pray for such dreams. The living has nothing to do with the dead. The powers of darkness have been known to utilize such dreams to transfer sicknesses and diseases into the life of the dreamer. In many cases, it turns out to be the same sickness that killed the person they dreamt about. Even more serious, such dreamers have been exposed to familiar spirits through such contacts. Take for an example the dream a lady related to a deliverance minister. She had had the dream twenty years before. In the dream, she saw a man who resembled her dead father, submerged in the ground. Only his head was above the ground level. She was naturally concerned to see her father in such a state. She went towards him in order to rescue him from his predicament. As she ran towards him, she tripped and fell; her head went into the wide-opened mouth of her father. She succeeded at pulling her head out but her father held on to her hair with his teeth. The struggle continued for a while. It stopped when someone came, wrapped her in white linen, and pulled her out of the mouth of her father. Then she woke up. How do you classify a dream like that? Obviously it was a bad dream that had nothing to do with the way she spent her day. Therefore she had to be under serious spiritual warfare. She further told me, “Pastor, from that day, I have had nonstop headache and dizziness. “I often feel as if someone
is pulling my hair. I have been to many doctors to no avail.” It might be significant to remind you, dear reader, that the one she saw in the dream might not have been her father at all. The enemy could have used the face of her father to lure her into getting close to the trap set for her. The fact that she was wrapped in white linen signifies that she would go to the grave with the problem. But thanks be to God for deliverance. She was prayed for, and the Lord delivered her from the headache and dizziness.
13. Attack by armed robbers
Such dreams denote the existence of serious obstacles in the life of the dreamer.
14. Road blocks and padlocks
These dreams can contain law enforcement road blocks or trees fallen across a pathway. Such dreams signify blockages in the life’s path of the dreamer.
15. Handcuffs
They indicate restrictions in the life of the dreamer.
16. Climbing mountains and hills
Such dreams point to the presence of obstacles and hindrances in the dreamer’s life.
17. Automobile breakdown
Such dreams can indicate an attack against your wheel of progress.
18. Theft of wedding dress or wedding ring.
This could mean serious trouble for the marriage.
19. Children crying or screaming out in their sleep.
This should give every caring parent concern. Only God knows the nature of the attack such children might have been subjected to while asleep. The children concerned need to be prayed for.
20. Dreams that indicate warfare against the ministry.
Depending on its content, any of the dreams described above can affect a church or ministry. A
By Pastor Femi Akojenu pastor described a time when it was very difficult to keep people in a church he pastored. He prayed to know why. Then God gave him a dream which is narrated below: ìWe were in church one Sunday morning with the church filled to capacity. Suddenly two snakes crawled into the building and confusion broke out. People ran everywhere and many ran out of the building. Those who remained decided to kill the snakes. Then I woke up. That was a dream to show me why people were not staying in the church. The “old serpent” was the power behind many of the problems that made some leave the church. I had another dream in which a big tree fell inside the church and killed some people. I ran around in the dream wondering whether we had renewed our church insurance or not. Then I woke up. I had no idea what the dream meant, but one thing was clear, it was not a good dream. I had to set aside several days for fasting and praying to deal with whatever the dream meant.î
21. Dreams dealing with darkness
Any dream dealing with darkness should be paid attention to.
These dreams that I have mentioned would probably have brought back many memories of dreams to the reader. Please take time to pray against any spiritual attack that had been revealed to you in your dream. ******

Is It Time to Walk Away from YourCastle? (Part 1)
A
man’s home is his castle but over the last few years as the US economy worsens, many have seen it fit to walk away from their castle. The crisis in the US housing market has hit hard since what is commonly referred to as the Subprime Mortgage Crisis surfaced in 2007, and it was recently reported that approximately 22% of homes (10.8 million) in the United States were “under water” as of September 2010. This means that the outstanding balance on the mortgage is more than the home is currently worth. This is a very unusual phenomenon and some of us have never witnessed this
scenario in our entire lifetime. The government has tried getting help to homeowners but most of that help is being funneled through the financial institutions that hold the mortgages on these homes. We all have heard about federal programs such as the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) the success of which is very questionable as the nation continues to suffer from high unemployment (9.8% nationally) and the rate of mortgage foreclosures continues to rise. The financial institutions have certainly benefitted as most of them are profitable again, coming back from the
brink of bankruptcy just a few years ago. The federal government plans to funnel $50 billion through the financial institutions with the hope that they will help homeowners stay in their homes by either reducing the amount of their debt (principal forgiveness) or reducing the interest rate on their mortgages, hence, the amount of the payment. Through May 2010, the treasury department reported that only 340,000 of the 1.5 million homeowners who have been offered trial modifications had received permanent modifications. All this must be translated into layman’s term. Let us assume that you purchased your home in Queens, New York in 1999 on the following terms:
Purchase Price...........................$420,000 Down payment.............................$42,000 Mortgage Loan . ........................$378,000 (Monthly payment of $2,643 @ 7.5% interest over 30 years) Total Housing Payment..... $2,643 + $350 (Taxes & Insurance) = $2,993 Monthly You have paid your mortgage diligently for 9 years, never late once. As a matter of fact, this is your third home so you are accustomed to taking care of business. Your wife and three kids are happy with this home which is nicer and more comfortable than
7 Steps to Revival in New York Continued from Page 11
The goal is a group, small or large, gathered together in one accord. Petty differences among participants must be put aside along with disputes over fine points of doctrine. Whether someone’s eschatology makes him pre-millennial, postmillennial or millennial is of absolutely no consequence if that individual is crying out to God for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit. As prayer for revival begins, the time is right to ask forgiveness of those who have offended you. Put aside the petty spite and jealousy that may have characterized your relations with other members of your church assembly. God is love. As you seek his love it will work through you to tear down all the barriers that keep you from loving your brothers and sisters in Christ. When the power of God falls, all those things that appear to be reasons for us to be separated from each other fade into insignificance
in the light of God’s glory. Remember also solemn assessment of the human unity he observed at the Tower of Babel. “Behold they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them” (Genesis 11:6,NAB). Just think of the incredible power of human endeavor when those involved were united even in rebellion against God. Then think of the awesome power that our unity can produce when energized by the power of the Holy Spirit in revival. This is the power to change a nation and to frustrate the plans of those who wish to destroy us. Is it any wonder that Satan who knows full well what a unified church empowered by the Holy Spirit can accomplish; does everything in his power to cause rancor and division among Christians? He wants to break their unity while he entices them to commit sin so that the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives will be lifted. The key to the supernatural is your only hope for the future. The theme of the Book of Acts was UNITY. Only a church, a supernatural church will survive the evil future until Jesus comes. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and

the last two. In 2008 you lost your job of 25 years and you are now 50 years old and having a difficult time finding replacement employment. You were unemployed for 18 months and the parttime job that you now have replaces only 40% of your 2008 earnings. You have been seeking help from the bank that holds the mortgage on your home which is currently in foreclosure because you are five months behind in payments. Out of desperation, four months ago you listed the home for sale with a broker at $430,000 although you and your family really want to stay in the home. After two months on the market, you accepted an offer to purchase the home for $410,000 but the transaction fell through because the buyer could not get a mortgage. In Part 2 of this article, we will take a look at your options. John.. (Acts 4:13, KJV). The 120 people praying in the upper room and later 3000 more that had gotten saved under the bold preaching of Peter, all praying! What wonderful and tremendous Holy Spirit Power was generated! That same thing can happen now! Let us begin to try it! Read through again Acts chapters 2, 3, and 4 (important for you). Remember the formula, one accord = unity=Boldness = Key to revival. Unity means: oneness, harmony, one accord, all agreeing. We must love fervently the people in the church and those destroyed people from outside the churches. Warning! Where there is no unity, strife comes in. Then division, then faith quits working!
