Artist of the Month

T

he God Son of Gospel Music, Michael Reid is intercontinental, energetic, and has inspirational experience with God. His goal for this generation is to reach lost dying souls. He began his singing ministry in 1993 where he started out ministering to his peers, at Primary school in Clarendon, May Pen Jamaica West Indies. He led devotion in school, participated in school plays, talent show and was involved in drama and acting. As a result, he became the choir director of May Pen Primary School. He graduated from May Pen Primary School in the year 1995 and went on to attend May Pen High school. He continued leading his fellow classmates through devotional singing and drama which was his passion for acting. This was his creative way of leading young teenager to Christ. This allowed his music ministry to increase to newer dimension that opened the opportunity to become the President of the Inter School Christian Fellowship (ISCF) in May Pen where he successfully launched his music ministry. He entered the Jamaica Gospel Festival for schools island-wide. In that competition over five thousand students entered and 24 finalists were chosen. He received a certificate which did not stop there. He became more active and decided to join the 4H club which entails music opportunities and more. He was a member of the 4H club for about 1 year

and became the assistant President. The singing ministry exploded. As a member of the 4H club, this opened a chance to enter the Track Competition Broadcast that covers performing arts where He received eighth place in poetry. He started a combined choir with the 4H club and the ISCF students where teachers and principals were involved. This group was not successful as a result of the students’ lack of commitment. Therefore, he was left alone but he was persuaded to start writing his own unique music “He is my Daddio” In the year 2000 he decided to enter the Jamaica Gospel Festival. He successfully placed himself in the top ten contesters and won ninth place in the competition. In that same year, he graduated from high school and his music ministry expanded even further. Later that year, he migrated to the United States where He wrote the song, “Would you be ready”. He launched his first album “He is my Daddio” in November 2005. The song “Would you be ready” allowed him to enter a Gospel competition in which he received fifth place award. He also wrote another song called “Brimstone and Fire” and in 2006 he entered the Gill &Pat Bailey Caribbean Gospel Radio 7th annual Caribbean Gospel awards on mother’s day. He also received the awards for song writer of the year and newest vocalize of the year. He released his second album “Waiting down Here at the River” that same year. Michael Red

God Can Use the Smallest of Things to Make an Impact

I

listened to a sermon preached about the Lord calling us young people to be enlisted in His army. I wondered to myself, “How? Can the Lord use someone as young as you and I to attack the enemy’s camp?” I never walked in David’s sandals and I don’t know how it feels to slay Goliath; I never ruled a nation as a boy like King Josiah, so I had to ask the Lord how in this technological era is He going to use me to slay the many Goliaths of my generation. The Spirit of the Lord then said unto me: “I can use the smallest of things to make an enormous impact. As a pebble hits the surface of the still waters, so will I use you young men and women; to create a ripple effect that will be felt throughout your homes, churches, communities, and to the ends of the earth. I have promised in My Word to pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and (you my) sons and daughters, shall prophesy, and shall see visions. This is the season of my pebble generation because I the Lord have chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise ..” Thus saith the Lord... The smallest of actions will eventually have large effects on the people around us. – By Twana St. Paul

Ginny Sims Ginny Sims was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York. She started singing in church at the age of eight years old. Being inspired by the legendary Aretha Franklin and gospel great Valerie Boyd, she worked hard to hone her God given talent. Faith without works is dead, she always quoted so she worked hard at every opportunity she got to sing in choirs, local recording, and to act and sing in plays. Ginny after a long battle with a teenage drug addiction emerged, with a deeper passion determination and commitment to God and her ministry “Over Comers”. The purpose of her ministry is to encourage others letting them know that no matter what they are facing in life that through a committed life in God they can overcome. Today as she continues to work and develop her God given talent, she is currently in the studio working on her upcoming release “It’s My Season”. If Ginny is not in the studio recording or in church singing or out ministering in the prison, drug rehabs, or wherever God is directing her she is in the word developing her relationship with God.

BENEFITS

Enduring Spirit

M

any people speak about benefits. There are those who look forward to having a retirement benefit after working for a long time. Many look forward to a benefit check at the end of every month, and there are those who walk around with a benefit card and so on. But what about the benefit of God towards us? Every morning that we are awake, life is a benefit to us. Did we do something good or special to acquire this? No! If this was the case, most of us would not be alive. But how many of us say, “Thank you God for this morning”? Yet, in spite of our failures, He continues to extend His mercies unto us..Psalms 107:8-9. “Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness (benefit) and His wonderful works (benefits) to the children of men! For He satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with goodness (benefits).”

God will do it for you this month, and for the rest of your life, if you just trust in Him and praise Him always. You will be surprised to see His added benefits that He has in store for you. Yo u m a y be feeling that God has nothing to do with you; but just to have life should remind you that God cares for you and He is providing and preparing benefits just for you. But let’s think about this for a moment: “WHAT SHALL WE RENDER UNTO GOD FOR ALL OF HIS BENEFITS TOWARDS US?” (Psalm 116:12) and let us begin to thank Him every day, for He has made many promises unto us in His Word, and His promises are true, and these promises are benefits that are already prepared for us. So let us all do our part and God will do His part.

Bishop Barnes began singing in quartets when he was 14 years old. He would later record eight albums with Rev. Janice Brown and “Rough Side of the Mountain” became the most popular album remaining #1 on the gospel charts for more than a year, selling over 500,000 copies. Bishop Barnes spent his entire recording career on Atlanta International Records, (Air Gospel) a subsidiary of The Malaco Music Group. He recorded 15 albums, not includingappearances on several LP’s with his son, Gospel Legend Luther Barnes and the widely successful direct marketing campaign infomercial entitled, Gospel Legends. SPECIAL TEACHING CONTINUED FROM LAST ISSUE... The sixth step to revival is Perseverance. After Jesus had risen from the dead, He instructed His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high. We learn that these men and women, whose very lives were in grave danger, gathered in an upper room to wait and pray for the promise of the Father. Day one passed and no miracle accrued. Then day two nothing; then day three nothing; the same on days four, five, six, seven, eight and nine. Imagine their impatience, imagine their fear, imagine that their faith was wavering, imagine the restless boredom of sitting in one place day after day with nothing happening. Was their hope merely an illusion? Jesus was not there in person. Had

he deceived them? Was their prayer vigil merely a vain hope? Other doubts may have assailed them, but yet they waited and prayed as they had been instructed to do. They believed that the promise given by their Lord was valid and they clutched it tightly to their hearts. Then when the day of Pentecost– the fiftieth day after the promise–had finally come, the miracle happened. The Bible tells us that there was a sound like a mighty rushing wind that filled the room where they were sitting, and cloven tongues of fire separated and appeared over the heads of each one there. Then they were each filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. The same God who visited His people at Pentecost in Jerusalem wants to visit His church in America, in New York City today. In my opinion, the revival that is coming

Bishop M.M Hendrikson is also available to speak at your church or conference. He spent 20 years overseas as a missionary and taught Bible in 3 languages. Please write for speaking engagements to: Rev. M.M. Hendrikson 490 Riverside Drive New York, N.Y. 10027 tel. 914-434-8375

to America in the year 2012 will eclipse every other revival that the world has ever known. So press in. Pray, Pray, Pray! Follow the steps to revival set forth in this teaching then prayerfully wait for God to do the part that He has promised. Perseverance, Perseverance, Pereseverance! Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. (Hebrews 10:35 - 36 NASB) What then are the steps to revival? God gave the formula to Solomon, King

of Israel, about 960 B.C. God said, ‘AND IF MY PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME, WILL HUMBLE THEMSELVES AND PRAY, AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, THEN I WILL HEAR FROM HEAVEN, AND WILL FORGIVE THEIR SIN, AND WILL HEAL THEIR LAND (Chronicles 7:14 NASB)

Warning! where there is no unity, strife comes in. Then division, then faith quits working!

The Privileges of Dwelling in Zion The Prayer for All People

T

by Rabbi, Rev. Dr. Keith Elijah Thompson, Chief-Apostle

HOU art our God who is in heaven and on earth.

Thou art mighty, powerful and strong. The standard bearer of tens of thousand; at your Word, things came into being at your command. For the Spirit of the Lord God Jehovah is upon me, for He has anointed me to preach the Gospel to all people. For in the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy and at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Holy God, at your command all things were created; at your voice they stood still. Your name is everlasting, your name is eternal, your name is most Holy; you liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Selah. Your purity can be seen all around. Your crown means salvation forever and for all. Your government is the fullness of righteousness; justice is the habitation of your throne, your Robe is the fullness of zeal. The faithfulness of your council is forever true. The workings of your truth in the hearts of men make them free. Holy Father, our God Jehovah-Adonai, Yahweh; we pray for all leaders: Clergy men and women, the body of Christ, the President of the United States and his family, Congress, Judiciary branch, Senators, Governors, Mayors, Assembly men and women, Councilmen and women, District Attorneys’, Law enforcement officers, Fire-fighters, our Armed Forces, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Educators, Entrepreneurs. We also pray for Kings and Queens, those behind bars, those in the hospitals, our youth (our children) and those around the world, we pray for all nations and kindred. We pray in the name of Yeshua-Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. Amen.

W

hy me Lord? Why do I have to be going through all of this? You promised to be there with me all the way, but now it seemed you have forgotten me. What have I done to deserve all this pain? Are these questions sounding familiar? I have been through some bad storms and I have often times questioned God, Why? But at moments when I thought that all was lost, He came through for me, reminding me of his promise never to leave me nor forsake me. In Isaiah 43:2 He says, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” I know some times the clouds are dark and you think the sun will never shines through, but because I know that God is not slack concerning His promises, I can assure you that He will come through for you. You may be going through your divorce storm, your financial storm, your abuse storm, your loneliness storm, but no matter what the storm is, be assured my friend that the Lord is with you and you will not be destroyed. The enemy will try to persuade you that all is lost, but not

when God has control of your life! He will supply all your needs through the storm. The story is told in Matthew 8:23-27 that Jesus and His disciples got into a boat and a furious storm came upon them, so that the waves swept over the boat. Jesus was sleeping. The disciples got real scared and went and woke Him. They said, “Lord save us! We are going to drown!” But Jesus replied, “You have little faith, why are you so afraid?” He got up and rebuked the wind and the waves, and it was completely calm.” The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this that the winds and the waves obey Him?” From this story you should learn a few things: 1. Sometimes it will seem as though Jesus is not there and your present situations and conditions will try to convince you that He is not there. But never forget that He is always there. 2. You will be afraid and that is quite natural. But be not afraid. Rest in His promise and He will calm all your doubts and fears. 3. You will be preserved during the storm. No matter how high and strong the waves are, you will not be drowned.

maizierose@hotmail.com 4. You can speak to your storm with authority. The Holy Spirit working with you gives you that power. Use it up! 5. The storm will stop. It is said that the only thing that last forever is salvation; so the storm will come to an end; so giving up is no solution. That’s a sign of defeat. 6. You will be given the strength, the courage and the wisdom to go through the storm as the Lord will never give you more than you can bear. So no matter what you are going through right now be assured that you are not alone. God is with you and victory will be yours.

Are You Heading for Burnout?

by Rev. Trudy Daley,

Tri-Une Healing and Restoration Ministries, Inc.

M

any ministers are leaving their calling

because they just feel burnout. Burnout is not something that just happens overnight but is a process that goes through several stages before actual burnout is reached. Burnout is a condition that can happen to anyone, but people who are constantly giving to others and whose energy is depleted and not renewed are the most susceptible to it such as doctors, nurses, ministers or mothers caring for children and elderly parents simultaneously. It is different than just tiredness, which

can be eliminated with some rest and a good night’s sleep. It is a state of exhaustion at every level: emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical, caused by excessive and prolonged stress. If we feel overworked and undervalued, we could be heading toward burnout. The causes of the excessive stress that lead to burnout can be from work issues, lifestyle or personality traits. Often what happens is that all three of these combine to generate a level of stress that is intolerable and we react. All our resources of energy and emotion are insufficient to help us continue to cope. Ministers and care givers in many ways have circumstances that foster burnout. Most people’s perception of these roles is that they are not very difficult, and they really are not as hard as going to work at a secular job. Having done both, ministry and a secular job, I would say that my hardest day at my secular job was far easier than many days in ministry. Ministry and care-giving are generally a 24 hour /7 days-a-week job. There is always a sense of being needed and having to be ready to meet whatever situation may arise --- small or life threatening. Though many ministers may designate a day off, if anything arises, they are expected to forego that and be there to deal with the need. This may also be true for care-givers. Because ministers and care-givers are always watching out for the needs of others, their own needs are neglected and perhaps even

denied for the sake of others. This can be due to the desire to be seen as good, responsible and caring. That notion is part of what sets up this group of people for burnout. In the first stage of burnout, one may suffer from chronic fatigue but still push one’s self, which may result in headaches, pain, muscle spasms or stomach troubles. Emotionally, this person becomes more fearful and anxious and takes things personally. Spiritually, the person begins to question his or her effectiveness, and becomes caught up in trying to do everything right. In stage two, one cannot turn off his or her mind, and no longer has the drive he or she used to have, and then becomes susceptible to illness. Emotionally, this person has lost perspective and feels powerless to control feelings and reactions. Spiritually, he/she feels that they have nothing to give and resent those who ask for help. People in this situation feel as though nothing positive is happening. They may begin to have periods where they weep and feel desperate. In stage three, they have reached burnout and do not feel able to do anything. It generally takes years to get to stage three of burnout, but once there, it can take years to recover from it. If you sense that you may be in stage one, get help as it is not too late to recover quickly. Even if you sense that you are not in burnout but just over

stressed, it also needs to be addressed before it causes you to have an anxiety disorder or physical illness. God created the concept of a Sabbath rest for us so that neither stress nor burnout could defeat us. When life was simpler and people worked from sun up to sun down and then relaxed, their stress level was better managed. Today with all the technology that we have in our lives, we are far more vulnerable to stress and burnout. Our pace of life leaves little room for a day of rest and significant time with God. If you are feeling stressed and heading toward burnout, perhaps it is time to consider a change in your work and life style. God did not create a day of rest if it was not needed. It has been shown that when even animals rest one day a week they perform better on the other six days. Have you set aside a day of rest and time to be with the Lord? If not, ask God to help you to find a way to do so, and then you also can be more productive the other six days. Concepts taken from, ‘Deliverance and Inner Healing’ by John Loren Sandford and Mark Sandford and an article, “Preventing Burnout” from Helpguide. org. ****** Rev. Trudy Daley, Tri-Une Healing & Restoration Ministries, Inc. www. triuneministries.com 1-518-989-6891 or revtrudy4@gmail.com

Response by Valerie Samuel Should my organization consider a branding project? Probably. Because building a clear brand takes a lot of thought and time especially if the brand or reputation you have created through your past efforts needs tweaking. The question to ask yourself is: What reputation do you have? Do you even know how your most important supporters and stakeholders feel about you? Are you seen as vital and critical? Worthy of support? Are people confused about you, or worse, confusing you with other organizations? Is your reputation helping or hindering you from reaching your highest potential? What reputation should you cultivate in order to attract increased support for your mission? These are questions that get asked and answered during a branding project with www.valeriesamuelsnonprofitcenter. com. You can commit today to the branding effort. Some make the mistake of thinking that they do not need a brand. Others think they do not have the staff time to devote to making branding a priority. Sen. Menendez Introduces Comprehensive Alternative to Enforcement-Only Immigration Legislation

W

hile some in Congress continue attempts to enforce a way out of our immigration problems, others, like Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), are offering balanced solutions that address not just one, but many facets of our broken immigration system. Today, Senator Menendez (DNJ), along with Senators Harry Reid (D-NV), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Richard Durbin (D-IL), Charles Schumer (DNY), Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) and John Kerry (D-MA), introduced the “Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) Act of 2011,” a bill which offers a comprehensive framework for lasting reform. Unlike stand-alone enforcement bills, Senator Menendez’s proposal includes strategies to address undocumented workers currently living in the U.S., such as the creation of Lawful Prospective Immigration (LPI) status. Applicants for LPI status would be required to submit biometric data, go through security checks and pay a fine. After six to eight years of LPI status, they could then transition to Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) status (obtain a greencard), but only after they pay taxes and additional fines, learn English and U.S. civics and undergo additional background checks. And even then, LPIs would have to wait behind those already in line for LPR status.

In addition to DREAM Act and AgJOBS provisions, Senator Menendez’s bill includes improvements to regulate the future flow of legal immigrants by creating a standing commission which would study labor market and economic conditions to determine the number of employmentbased visas needed. The bill also supports programs that better facilitate immigrant integration, such as

enhanced policies to help immigrants learn English and grants for states that successfully integrate newcomers. On the flip side, Sen. Menendez’s bill balances these provisions with enforcement measures, like establishing border enforcement triggers that must be met before unauthorized immigrants can apply for permanent residency, requiring DHS to track the departure of noncitizens to ensure they do not overstay their visa, as well as a mandatory E-verify program, among others. Clearly there is no one-size fits all solution to our broken immigration system. Rather, we need a collection of smart and balanced fixes—fixes that account for not only the 11 million undocumented workers currently in the U.S., but also the structural failures in our system and gaps in enforcement. Without a balanced solution, we are bound to rehash the same immigration failures over and over again while our economy, society and country suffer. Sen. Menendez’s bill is a good start.

Unlike stand-alone enforcement bills, Senator Menendez’s proposal includes strategies to address undocumented workers currently living in the U.S., such as the creation of Lawful Prospective Immigration (LPI) status.

The Principles of MINDFUL EATING The Center for Mindful Eating has created the Principles of Mindful Eating. These principles are intended to guide all who are interested in mindful eating.

Principles of Mindfulness:

• Mindfulness is deliberately paying attention, non-judgmentally. • Mindfulness encompasses both internal processes and external environments. • Mindfulness is being aware of what is present for you mentally, emotionally and physically in each moment. • With practice, mindfulness cultivates the possibility of freeing yourself of reactive, habitual patterns of thinking, feeling and acting. • Mindfulness promotes balance, choice, wisdom and acceptance of what is.

ere we are again preparing for barbeque season. As the 4th of July encroaches on us, many of us are planning weekend getaways, a day at the beach, family reunions at the park and all of those wonderfully relaxing outdoor festivities. While giving much thought to how we will be spending our summer days and this 4th of July, we often give little thought to how we will protect ourselves from some of the silent dangers. Although tanning is inevitable for us all once we’re exposed to the sun, tanning is highly sought after by whites and is usually undesirable to blacks. Nevertheless, it is important that you use-skin- protective measures not just in the summer months, but during any time of sun exposure. 1) Use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher applying sunscreen every time you come out of the water, sweat or after a 2 hour period. 2) Wear a wide brim hat and sunglasses that have UV protection lenses. 3) Avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. when possible. 4) Be cautious around areas that reflect the sun like: sand, water and snow. 5) Check your skin monthly for any new changes in moles, pigmentation or new skin growths. 6) Avoid tanning beds. If you detect a suspicious lesion, schedule an appointment with your doctor a.s.a.p. Remember, everyone is at risk for developing skin cancer therefore, anyone can get skin cancer. lassroom teachers today, are overwhelmed by politically driven testing mania, and by state and local administrative efforts to strip them of their wellearned salaries and tenure; all in the name of test-determined “student progress.” It comes as no surprises to me that policy makers’ views on teacher evaluation parallel what most administrators offer as the main solution to improving student progress: fix the teachers. And fix

them by threatening their tenure, salaries and even certification yearly, depending on how well they can impress state and local administrative evaluators and off-site testers. I cannot help but wonder how long legislators would retain their jobs and salaries if they were evaluated yearly on how well people obeyed the laws they passed. This is how teachers feel about being held accountable for student performance on tests originated by people who are not in

the classroom. I work in an inner city middle school with one of the highest unemployment rates in New York. For many years, proponents of a rounded education have struggled to overcome barriers to learning like generational poverty, gang influence, drugs and lack of parental interest, involvement or support. If the students in my eighth-grade class learn to read more fluently, speak more effectively, and write more coherently, then I feel they have been successful and have shown “progress.” This also, I feel, makes me an effective teacher. But the mania for “data-driven education” that afflicts the nation from the Secretary of Education down to local administrations has turned my classroom and my own instruction largely into mere test-prep and proctoring, with “remediation”: on standards not yet “mastered” according to the tests. Teachers could use many different, moreversatileassessments to determine student progress and adjust instruction individually and meaningfully, since we are the classroom teacher. But my students’ “progress” will not be measured by what I can determine, but by what the tests determine. The calls to tie test success to teacher evaluation are becoming more strident. As we see from the secretary’s policy, he favors linking salary, tenure, and even certification to administrative

Unless teachers are treated with respect and trusted to evaluate student progress, then I don’t see our profession being “elevated” at all. I see us being reduced to drudges who answer only to the siren call of high test scores, not the needs of our students. I approve of standards-based instruction because it gives teachers a clear focus for planning, teaching, assessments and reteaching. But if politicians and administrators really want to students to become prepared for tomorrow’s workforce, which will require flexibility, innovation, creativity, and collaborative problem solving, then they need to trust the classroom teacher and give him or her support through professional development, adequate materials, and instructional freedom.

Classroom teachers today, are overwhelmed by politically driven testing mania, and by state and local administrative efforts to strip them of their well-earned salaries and tenure; all in the name of test-determined “student progress.”

A Prayer Setting Proper Priorities

by Rev. Linus Baptiste,

Senior Pastor, Global Life Prayer Faith Healing Ministries

ather, too often I allow urgency to dictate my schedule, and I am asking you to help me establish priorities in my work. I confess my

weakness of procrastination and lack of organization. My desire is to live purposefully, worthily and accurately as a wise, sensible, intelligent person. You have given me a seven day week-six days to work and the seventh day to rest. I desire to make the most of the time (buying up my opportunity). Help me plan my day, and stay focused on my assignments. In the name of Jesus, I demolish and smash warped philosophies concerning time management; tear down barriers erected against the truth of God and fit every loose thought, emotion, and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. I clear my mind of every obstruction and build a life of obedience into maturity. Father, you are in charge of my work and my plans. I plan the way I want to live, but you alone make me able to live it. Help me to organize my efforts, schedule my activities, and budget my time Jesus. You want me to relax. It pleases you when I am not preoccupied with getting, so I can

respond to God’s giving. I know you Father God and how you work. I steep my life in God’s reality, God-initiative, and God-provisions. By the grace given me, I will not worry about missing out, and my everyday human concerns will be met. I purpose in my heart to seek (aim at and strive after) first of all your kingdom Lord, and your righteousness (your way of doing and being right) and then all these things taken together will be given me besides. Father, your word is my compass, and it helps me to see my life as complete in Christ. I cast all my cares, worries and concerns over on you, that I might be well-balanced (temperate, sober of mind), vigilant, and cautious at all times

I tune my ears to the word of wisdom and set my heart on life of understanding. I make insight my priority. Father, you sent Jesus that I might have life and have it more abundantly. Help me remember that my relationship with you and with others, are more important than anything else, in Jesus’ name. Amen

I would like to share a wonderful story that I read about the details and intimacy that makes a marriage, but that we sometimes miss, leading to failures in marriage: …When I got home that night as my wife want to disrupt him with our broken marriage. served dinner, I held her hand and said, “I’ve This was agreeable to me. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, “All my dresses have grown bigger”. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily. Suddenly it hit me... she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head. Our son came in at the moment and said, “Dad, it’s time to carry mom out.” To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day. But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, “I hadn’t noticed that our life lacked intimacy”. I drove to the office.... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind...I walked upstairs. Jane opened the door and I said to her, “Sorry, Jane, I do not want the divorce anymore”. She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. “Do you have a fever?” She said. I moved her hand off my head. “Sorry, Jane”, I said, “I won’t divorce”. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn’t value the details of our lives, not because we didn’t love each other anymore. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us part. Jane seemed to

suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away. At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, “I’ll carry you out every morning until death do us part.” That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I ran upstairs, only to find my wife in the bed - dead. My wife had been fighting CANCER for months and I was so busy with Jane to even notice. She knew that she would die soon and she wanted to save me from the whatever negative reaction from our son, in case we push thru with the divorce.-- At least, in the eyes of our son--- I’m a loving husband.... The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse’s friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage! If you don’t share this, nothing will happen to you. If you do, you just might save a marriage. Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. Story By: Kimmies Floralz

JULY 2011

with

Bishop Dr. Michael A. Frith

1. I am living with a man for four years now but every time he comes home drunk he would accuse me of having other men with him, which of course is not the truth. I am tired of this Pastor, but I don’t know what to do. Please help me. ANSWER. My dear lady, you ask for my help, but what exactly are you asking me to help you with? Are you asking me to give you permission to stay with the man you live with, or permission to leave him? You state five things that are simultaneously happening with you: (1) you live with a man out of wedlock (if not, you would have addressed him as your husband), (2) he drinks and comes home drunk (3) he accuses you of having other men with him (4) you are tired of your situation and what is most disturbing is, (5) you don’t know what to do. Let me start at the top, Firstly it is a sin to fornicate, ‘shack-up-with’ or live with a man out of wedlock. I don’t know whether you are saved or not, because you did not say, but know this, that when you live in such a state it opens up Pandora’s Box to a lot of backlash and repercussions in your life. The man that you are living with has a problem called ‘alcoholism’ and that is why he drinks to the point of getting drunk. He also has very little or no respect for you if he comes home and accuses you of being with other men. That is how he views you, and this might be from something that happened in the past that he has not forgiven you for, or, it could be that he himself is with other women and out of guilt, he tries to displace it on you. It could also be that he has issues of distrust and insecurities from former relationships that has not been resolved. The question that I have though, is; ‘How tired are you of this situation?’ When one gets to their breaking point, no matter what the situation is one will find the strength or courage to seek help (as you are doing now) or to leave that abusive relationship. Every time he disrespects you and accuses you of being with other men, he is verbally and mentally abusing you. It doesn’t matter if he is paying the rent or buying your groceries, when you realize that you are more valuable than what your situation dictates, you will do something about it. Sometimes we need to know that what we are running to is better than what we are running from, and I can guarantee you that if you run to Jesus, you will find yourself in a much better situation than you are in right now. If you have not yet given yourself to the Lord, then I invite you to do so now and find a full-Gospel church that you can learn about Him and yourself and what He has to say about you, He will give you the strength to move on to a more fulfilling, fruitful, God-pleasing life. If you are ready to do so, just say, “I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I believe that He died for me and rose again from the dead for my justification.” (Romans 10:9-10) When you become strong in the Lord, then maybe one day you will find it in you to pray for the man that you are now living with, and perhaps one day, he too will become saved.

2. I am a drug addict who has just been released from the rehabilitation program. Though I have recently given my heart to the Lord, I am still tempted to go back. How can I deal with this problem? I don’t want to get hooked again. ANSWER. It is commendable that you desire not to get hooked again to the drugs that once held you captive. As you know, addiction is a physical or mental behavior that one feels powerless to stop. There is much debate however, on the causes of addiction. Because there are two components to addiction – the physical addiction and the psychological addiction, it is likely that many factors create a risk for addiction. There are certain addictions linked to genetics, such as alcoholism. It is believed that alcoholism is hereditary – that is, one ‘gets it’ from their family. Other types of addiction are linked to one’s environment. For example, if children are raised in an environment where they see that a certain behavior is ok to display, then they can start to display the same behavior themselves and not think twice about it. On the other hand, if the same child is raised in an environment where certain behavior is frowned upon, then the chances of that child practicing that behavior is greatly reduced. The other factor that addiction is linked to is abuse. Individuals who experienced sexual, psychological, emotional or physical abuse are more likely to become addicts. The addiction becomes a coping mechanism, helping the addict to deal with strong negative emotions surrounding the abuse, feelings of severe low self-esteem, and possible flashbacks. Whatever the reason that you fell victim to this behavior, let me tell you that you are NO LONGER BOUND to that life threatening behavior. When you gave your life to the Lord, He has now obligated himself to take care of you, and if the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36). This is not to say that you will never regress or fall into a bad situation again, but with the help of the Holy

Spirit, discipline and will power on your part and a new way of thinking, you can stay drug free! God will change your appetite for the drugs to things that pertain to Him and His Word. Start reading the Bible more and meditate on the things that pertain to life and godliness (2nd Peter 1:3), and most importantly, surround yourself with people who can help to build you spiritually. (Jude vs.20) Remember, one of the components to addiction is environment, so if your current environment is not conducive to bible teaching and spiritual things, then change it and engross yourself in such things as prayer, Christian fellowship, and Bible studies and you will see the change. Remember also that there’s no shame in reaching out and asking for help if you need it, so perhaps a support group would be helpful for you if you ever feel like that temptation is getting too much for you; also you should avoid the people and places you once ventured into to get high, until you are strong enough to overcome that temptation. After a while, you will see that you no longer crave the things of the ‘world’ but you will start craving the things of God. May God strengthen you for this new chapter in your life. 3. Is there such a thing as marital rape? ANSWER. Yes, there is such a thing as marital rape. Rape is forced, unwanted sexual intercourse. Rape, sometimes also called sexual assault, can happen to both men and women of any age. Rape is about power, not sex. A rapist uses actual force or violence — or the threat of it — to take control over another human being. Some rapists use drugs to take away a person’s ability to fight back. Rape is a crime, whether the person committing it is a stranger, a date, an acquaintance, a family member or a spouse. No matter how it happened, rape is frightening and traumatizing. People who have been raped need care, comfort, and a way to heal. What’s the right thing to do if you’ve been raped? Take care of yourself in the best way for you. For some people, that means reporting the crime immediately and fighting to see the rapist brought to justice. For others it means seeking medical or emotional care without reporting the rape as a crime. Every person is different. There are three things that everyone who has been raped should do though: (1) Know that the rape wasn’t your fault, (2) Seek medical care and (3) Deal with your feelings. Know also that even though you are married and have a certain amount of obligation to your spouse, as he does to you to satisfy each other sexually (1st Corinthians 7:5), you have EVERY RIGHT TO SAY NO. And while it is your human right to say no, remember that there are some needs that God has designed to be met within the institution of marriage. It is my prayer that the love, romance, and tender consideration one toward another may dictate your experience in the future. 4. My daughter has come of age and is in love with a man she met on the internet. She has never seen him face to face, but is planning to do so soon. I am really scared as I have heard of cases where women get raped by men they met in this way. I don’t want this happening to my daughter. What can I do? ANSWER. I understand your concern for your daughter in the situation that you now find her. While it is indeed very scary to even try to fathom what she could be thinking to meet and fall in love with someone on the internet, you have to understand that this is not the age that you grew up in. I am sure that you have brought her up the best way you knew how and now it is a test of what she has inside of her. You have to trust her to do the right thing – of course with some common sense, a lot of precaution, and trying his spirit. If she is insisting on meeting this man, then you should suggest that she either meet him in a public place with a few of her friends scattered about inconspicuously so as to keep an eye on her, or in a place where she can leave in a hurry if she wants to. She should also not go anywhere with him alone until she gets to know him personally after spending considerable time with him (John 10:5). Speaking with someone on the internet is very different from speaking with them face to face. Who knows, maybe she won’t like him as much as she thought she did. I would also advise that she does NOT bring him home or even let him know where she lives until she gets to know him and see if she even likes him.

Spiritual Warfare:

Household Wickedness! O

ne of the strategies of household wickedness is what is called “Point of Contact”. What they look to do is to take anything that belongs to you and use it to do evil against you. Examples of “points of contact” is nail clippings, underwear, hair, clothes, picture, pen. Some even go to the extent of using menstrual pads, something very personal to you. What they usually do is take any of these things to an obeah man, a juju man, a psychic, a voodoo or santeria man and ask them to put a curse on another person. They do rituals with these things to put a curse on the one they want to harm. They put certain sicknesses, certain blockages and evil things in the life of the one they want to hurt or harm.

When you know you are in an hostile enviroment, you need to be very careful. When you are in a place where you are not loved, please be very careful I heard a story of a woman who took a group picture at work during the Christmas party and put the picture on her desk. Someone on the job, who didn’t like her, cut out her face from the group picture. They took it somewhere to have a curse put on her. You need to be led by the Spirit of God in all that you do. Just because they are your family members do not mean you always have to tell them what’s going on in your life. Ask God. Let him lead you. When you do, you may be surprised that when you want to share the goodnews of the interview or the new

college admission or job, that the Holy Spirit may give a check in your spirit, not to call or share with a particular person or people. You may say, “but that’s my family. I am very happy and I need to share with them.” The Holy Spirit will say, “Don’t call.” When you are led by the Spirit of God, you will be saved from from all kinds of trouble. The people that you have trusted, the people that you think have your best interest at heart may not. Sometimes they are the ones going behind your back and doing evil against you. This is not supposed to turn you into a suspicious person - that you start to suspect everyone around you. Not at all. This is just for you to be aware that this is real and be prayerful

and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Don’t just assume that because you sleep in the same bed that they have your best interest at heart; that because you are business partners mean that they have your best interest at heart; that because you are in the same church mean that they have your best interest at heart; don’t assume that because they smile with you that they are truly happy with you. They may not be...so be led by the Spirit of God. Who do you allow into your space? Who do you allow into your bedroom? Who do you allow your children to spend the night with? Do you know them? What kind of spirit do they have? Do they love God or are they agents of satan just sent to you to harm you, kill, steal and destroy you.

Water in the Bible H

ow many times does “water” occur in the Bible? What is it’s Significance? Answer: 722 Times! Ezekiel 36:25 says, “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you”; Hebrews 10:22: “Let us draw near with a true heart”... “and our bodies washed with pure water”... John 4:14, .. “Whoever shall drinketh of the water shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life,” Creation could not have taken place without “pure water”. The human species would not have evolved without pure water. When we look around us, we see today more cancer, more diabetes, more high blood pressure, etc etc...quality of life is on a downward spiral. People are “lulled” into a false sense of security, because the nurse or the doctor says “you’re doing fine, your pressure is normal. Just keep renewing your prescription. The facts are that even though medication may achieve a temporary “normal” reading, overall health is still going “downhill”...no one really gets better. God gave us a tremendous

“resiliency” in our blood cells, to protect us from disease...which is good and bad...because, it takes years to wear down the “Immune System”. In the history of the world, the simplest changes have made fantastic leaps ahead! 150 years ago, infant mortality was “skyrocketing”. Every other baby was dying on delivery.... the doctors were using dirty old rags to “wipe their hands...” Finally someone said... “Do you think it’s a good idea, if we washed our hands?”... well, that “idea” took 50 years to become standard procedure. It was the beginning of “Hygiene”. Now, we are faced with “contaminated drinking water”...whether it’s tap water, well water or bottled water, it’s all acid and creates a toxic environment in our bodies cells. It’s been proven that cancer cells thrive in an acid environment ...and cannot live in an “alkaline” environment. Sugar is acid, everything we eat and drink contains sugar. There is new technology that I am happy to share with you. I have spent 12 years of my life in achieving

3 degrees in the healing arts and 23 years in the practice and application of anti-aging and preventive medicine. Please keep your own doctor and keep following his/her directions until you attend my free “workshops”. You will become totally informed as to the value of drinking pure water daily and finding out why you need to have certain vitamins and minerals in your daily menu. The free Health and Wealth Workshops are weekly at the following locations: Elmont Pharmacy 821 Elmont Rd., Elmont, NY (1 block from Linden Blvd. ); Revealed Word Christian Center, 230th Street and Linden Blvd, Cambria Heights; The Medical Holistic Center, 870 Central Avenue, Far Rockaway, NY. I am retired from my medical practice, and find that I cannot “stay home” knowing what I know about our existing daily health care. My mission in life is now to share my knowledge with people who really want to get the most out of life, as I do.

R E A L E S TAT E

Is It Time to Walk Away from YourCastle? (Part 2) In Part 1 of this article, we looked at the problem facing many homeowners in distress with their mortgage and seeking a modification. This is the second of the three part article and it looks at the options available to such individuals. ****** Let’s look at your options: Principal Reduction In my research, I discovered that most financial institutions are unwilling to forgive and forget any amount of money currently owed to them, regardless of what the legions of “self anointed” home modification experts or politicians running for office may tell you. Many financial institutions will reduce the principal amount on which you currently pay and deferred the remainder as a balloon payment to be settled when you sell the home. Consider this to be the latest proposal from your bank; Total Mortgage Balance after 11 yrs $320,725 + $35,600 (arrears & legal fees) . .......... = $356,325 Balance on which you will continue to pay:........................................$178,162.50 (50% of total) Balance deferred as balloon payment:..................$178,162.50 (50% of total) Monthly payments @ 7.5% for the remainder of term (19 yrs):...........$1,468

This modification proposal will reduce your mortgage payment by $1,174 or 44% and you are confident that you will be able to afford the new monthly payment of $1,468. For simplicity, I did not include your real estate taxes and home owner’s insurance in your payment but let us assume that those payments remain the same at $350 monthly. Should you accept? The factors to consider are: • The home is currently worth $410,000. You may have negative equity for some years to come if home values continue to decline or stagnate ($42,000 down payment + $25,000 closing cost + $356,325 loan balance is greater than $410,000 current value of home). • Your total housing payment will be $1,818 • There is another $178,162.50 owed to the bank that is just sitting there until you sell the home even if you stay in the home for 19 years and pay off the first $178,162.50. • Your credit has been shattered after six monthly of negative reporting and a foreclosure filing. Interest Rate Reduction Alternatively, let us assume your bank has just offered to reduce you interest rate from 7.5% to 2.5%. Total Mortgage Balance after 11 yrs: $320,725 + $35,600 (arrears & legal fees) . ......... = $356,325 Monthly payments @ 2.5% for the remainder of term (19 yrs):...........$1,965

Your mortgage payment will be reduced by $678 or 26% but you are not confident that you will be able to afford the new monthly payment of $1,965. Should you accept? The factors to consider are: • The home is currently worth $410,000. You may have negative equity for some years to come if home values continue to decline or stagnate ($42,000 down payment + $25,000 closing cost + $356,325 loan balance is greater than $410,000 current value of home). • Your total housing payment will be $2,315 • You still owe the bank $356,325. • You and your family may still lose your home and all the stress associated with that. • Your credit has been shattered after six months of negative reporting and a foreclosure filing.

Lessons from the Unexpectantly Single

I

by Niya Allen

n the spring of 2007, I began to prepare for my pending nuptials that July. I began to pack up my collection of materials relating to being the single Christian and replaced it with a new collection on being a Proverbs 31 woman. I was so focused on building a strong marriage that I didn’t notice that my groom wasn’t doing the same. I kept telling myself “He’ll be alright”, but God was showing me signs I ignored. Six weeks before our wedding my fiancé told me that he needed to figure out what he really wanted. Dealing with the grief and embarrassment in front of friends and family was the least of my worries. God showed me quickly that I was giving my fiancé the attention and dedication; I should have been giving to Him. Whether I was praying or studying the Word, as soon as I heard the key in the door, fellowship with God ended. My fiancé made more money than I did, so he was also my source. There were times when

“Six weeks before our wedding, my fiancé told me that he needed to figure out what he really wanted...” bills would arrive and I wouldn’t bother to open them because I knew my man had it taken care of. I had developed arrogance where God was concerned. I would ask

the man in my life before I would ask the Man upstairs. God had to train me all over again to depend on Him for each paid bill or lunch to take to work. I had to awaken to

the knowledge that no one will ever take the place of the Almighty. Maya Angelou said it best when she said, “A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God, that a man has to seek Him just to find her.” Manifesting the will of God for our lives and His agenda should be at the forefront of our minds while we are single. Does that mean we don’t have a life filled with friends, fun, and dating? Of course not! I believe that there are assignments we must complete while we are single. This is the time to get our act together and know what true fellowship is! Start that business, clean up your finances, or even continue your education. I know that it is a constant struggle not to be distracted. You know how us single gals can get! We get a new man or a new job and our daily communion with God turns into five minutes at the end of the day when we have taken care of everything and everyone else’s needs. I’m enjoying my single life more than I ever had all because I put first things first.
