PASTOR WENDY MITCHELL
P
astor Wendy Mitchell is a rare and exceptional talent with the kind of vocal versatility that only few women of gospel possess.
A native of the twin island republic of Trinidad & Tobago, Wendy started singing in church at 13 years of age, and it did not take long for her skills and strong vocal ability to win her roles that led to years of singing as a professional. Wendy sang with some of the great Calypso singers, including The Mighty Sparrow, Baron, Kitchener and Calypso Rose, and has also toured as a cabaret artist at hotels, bars and lounges. One of the greatest accomplishments for Wendy was joining the world renowned Byron Lee and the Dragonaires in 1984 as their first female vocalist. She toured the United States, Canada, Europe and the Caribbean with the band and appeared with many musical greats like Ben E. King and Freddy McGregor to name a few. But it is the richness of a voice
that releases so distinct a melody, coupled with her ability to bring a harmonious sound to singing that makes her such a singer of distinction. Pastor Mitchell sings many parts and sings them so well that she holds the attention of many, and has sung for Prime Ministers Edward Seaga (Jamaica) and Raymond Robinson (Trinidad & Tobago), Merv Griffin and other prominent political entertainment leaders. Wendy has sung at the famous Hippodrome Club in London, Madison Square Garden in New York, The Palladium in Los Angeles, and The National Stadium in Barbados. She has been recording music ever since she joined Byron Lee and the Dragonaires in 1984. The Wendy of the present is very different. She has changed her life
and music - and her music is changing lives. “Her voice now,” she contends, “is but a vocal instrument, a tool for soul winning, used to minister to others and to touch lives.” Pastor Mitchell brings her contemporary style of traditional gospel music to a perfect blend with her background in calypso and reggae. Thus, the creation of a singing sensation that mesmerizes her audience with the kind of musical genre that blends

the popular Caribbean sounds with traditional and contemporary gospel music. She is highly driven by her passion to evangelize and lead others to Christ, to train young people for ministry and to teach the Word of God. She can be found traveling the world preaching at crusades, singing and providing missions outreach to the world’s less fortunate. Wendy is a Pastor, who is also actively involved in ministering at Homeless Shelters, Drug Rehab Centers, Nursing Homes, Prisons and at various hospitals throughout New York City where she resides. She is a student and teacher of the Word, but her passion above all passions, is to raise her melodious voice in praise to God and to win souls for his kingdom. She released her first gospel CD - The Upward Way- in June of 2003, and followed with her second CD release -New Life/ New Hope-in June of 2005. She has since released her third gospel CD- By the Spirit- in June of 2007 and Lead Thou Me her fourth album in 2009. Kiss Me... Quickly!
H
mm... in my journal again. I walked into the office today and to tell you the truth I am not sure what I got done. I just can’t seem to get my head around what this guy wants. It’s been 5 years, and truly I have been waiting for Mr. Romeo–call him Mr. Destiny–to grab hold of me and save the day. If only he would deliver me out of my loneliness. I am alone with the Lord, and Jesus is my First Husband, who I refuse to divorce, however, I need some Jesus in the flesh. LOL! Ooh this journal entry gets better every time I read it. Imagine a grown woman journalling. Brother Travis is spiritual, I mean in touch with God. And the brother is a great communicator. How RARE. He’s smart, compassionate, and God stands bold like a lion, and strong as a leader. Just the thought of him makes my heart beat faster. Standing in his presence makes me nervous. I can’t even think straight when I see him. My mother would say thats like ‘puppy love’. I am too grown to have puppy love issues. But truly he does make my heart flutter. What’s my story? I am a late bloomer. Even thinking about a date. This baby girl hasn’t seen the inside of a movie theatre for as long as she can remember. Sandy said I was being way too Spiritual concerning this love thing. I done prayed, done fasted, turned the plate down twice you know. Changed my hair three times. Even lost 50lbs. Love is something that is by choice, but it starts with a desire and ends with someone compatible. This can only be found through the hands of God. Somehow weaving unlikely people to cross each others

paths. Love has a way of finding.. yeah love has a way of finding, and perhaps even helping you find yourself. If only I had the ability to muster up the courage to pursue Brother Travis, I wonder how much further I would be. Sometimes I look at the tenderness in his smile, and the soft touch of his hand, and I think of laying down in his arms. They call that intimacy. Something you do without anything sexual involved. When the tears roll off my pillow, and I need some human flesh to comfort me.. grandma’s blanket doesn’t quite have the same feel. Brother Travis is tall enough to stand chin to chin with Michael Jordan, and fine enough to keep Christopher Williams out of his model chair. All he needs is me as his life companion. The first part of enjoying some romance, is probably me making some changes first. Love is uncomplicated, but love can be challenging. See we have to know whom to which we can trust our heart to. And then its to know whether Brother Travis wants a wife. You know you can’t share too much, too soon, because it will scare them away. So much to think about... Question is whether he finds me attractive. Not just physical. Does he see me? I mean does he see me the whole person. Boy if he really saw me, what would happen. Lord Jesus only show him what he needs to see of me, and continue to work on me whilst you are getting ready to unveil me. I sure hope this one is Mr. Destiny, cuz the princess bride needs someone to kiss her quickly. Well Journal, off to fix up, prep up, stir up, and change up.. I am off
I sure hope this one is Mr. Destiny, cuz the princess bride needs someone to kiss her ...quickly.
to get ready.. ready for what.. ready because someone is about to find me, and His name is Mr. Destiny. Being miss single got it going on, and doing it all alone changes tonight. I am changing up my hair. I took a trip to the beauty salon. And sister girl has been checking out the
newest fashion in Elle magazine. I am having me a makeover weekend. Brother Travis is not going to know what hit him when he sees me walk through the church doors.

Q. Pastor Brooks in New Jersey, asked: How does religious fundraising differ from other charitable fundraising? Response by Valerie Samuel: A. Pastor Brooks, from all the research I have seen it appears that the philanthropic motives that underlie giving to nonprofits bear many similarities form one field to another and that includes religious fundraising too! Donors want to help improve communities or partner with causes that make a difference and therefore, they target specific kinds of groups to make their investments in.
I would also add that these same donors much like your members inside your congregation crave both appreciation and information and really want to know how their gifts are being used. I would suggest that you keep them informed and involved and this will improve your chances of receiving donations much more frequently above and beyond the regular tithes, pledge’s and offerings.

GOOD NEWS CHRONICLES PAGE WITH EDITORS CORNER AND STAFF ETC.
The time of the seasons is set in place never will they move by our emotions or change to suit our circumstances. The blizzard of winter may bring tears to my cheeks, but my mind is set to be brave like the naked, standing trees; for though it is cold, it won’t last long, there will be changes after the yellow, fallen leaves. If I insist like the bird I can find, refuge until the ground hog arrive, and the flower shoots into place; and if I am not satisfied by the blooming flower, a rod, a hook and bait I will find for Summer is coming right behind. I cannot turn back the hands of time, so send chilly Autumn a note: tell him I say I will make hay while the sun shines, for this time I know, this season is mine.

All members bring a different element to the group, formulating a sound that fuses R&B, Hip Hop, and Reggae with Gospel music. It was really the work of God that brought this group together. The Privileges of Dwelling in Zion
The Prayer for All People
T
by Rabbi, Rev. Dr. Keith Elijah Thompson, Chief-Apostle
HOU art our God who is in heaven and on earth.
Thou art mighty, powerful and strong. The standard bearer of tens of thousand; at your Word, things came into being at your command. For the Spirit of the Lord God Jehovah is upon me, for He has anointed me to preach the Gospel to all people. For in the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy and at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Holy God, at your command all things were created; at your voice they stood still. Your name is everlasting, your name is eternal, your name is most Holy; you liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Selah. Your purity can be seen all around. Your crown means salvation forever and for all. Your government is the fullness of righteousness; justice is the habitation of your throne, your Robe is the fullness of zeal. The faithfulness of your council is forever true. The workings of your truth in the hearts of men make them free. Holy Father, our God Jehovah-Adonai, Yahweh; we pray for all leaders: Clergy men and women, the body of Christ, the President of the United States and his family, Congress, Judiciary branch, Senators, Governors, Mayors, Assembly men and women, Councilmen and women, District Attorneys’, Law enforcement officers, Fire-fighters, our Armed Forces, Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Educators, Entrepreneurs. We also pray for Kings and Queens, those behind bars, those in the hospitals, our youth (our children) and those around the world, we pray for all nations and kindred. We pray in the name of Yeshua-Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. Amen. [Obey Consistently, Repeat Faithfully]
Surrendering Everything to God

ather, you are the Supreme Authority - a God of order. You have instituted other authority structures that will support healthy relationships and maintain harmony. It is my decision to surrender my will to you, that I may find protection and dwell in the secret place of the Most High God. Father, thank you for pastors and leaders of the church- those who are submitted to you Lord, and are examples to the congregation. I submit to the leaders in authority, and all spiritual guides of the miniseriesgiving them due respect and yielding to their council. Lord, you know just how rebellious I have been. I ask your forgiveness for manipulating circumstances and people - for trying to manipulate
you to get my own way. May your will be done in my life, even as it is in heaven. Father, when I feel that my life is spiraling out of control, I bind my mind to the mind of Jesus Christ, and my emotions to the control of the Holy Spirit. I loose my mind from obsessive thought patterns that try to confuse me. Obedience is far better than sacrifice. Father, you are much more interested in my listening to you than in my offerings of material things . To you rebellion is as bad as worshipping idols. Forgive me for practicing witchcraft and worshipping idols. Father, you deserve honesty from the heart, yes utter sincerity and truthfulness. Oh, give me this wisdom, sprinkle me with the cleansing blood, and I shall be clean again, wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. You have rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the Kingdom of the Son you love, in whom I have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Lord I want to follow you. I am putting aside my own desires and conveniences. I yield my desires thatare not in your plan for me, even in the midst of my fear, I surrender and entrust my future to you. I choose to take up my cross and follow you (cleave steadfastly to you, conforming wholly to your example in living and
become His servant, He calls me his friend. Lord, help me to walk through the process of surrendering my all to you. I exchange rebellion and stubbornness for a willing and obedient heart. When I refuse to listen, anoint my ears to hear; when I am blinded by my own desires open my eyes to see.
“Lord, help me to walk through the process of surrendering my all to you. I exchange rebellion and stubbornness for a willing and obedient heart.” if need be, in dying also). I desire to lose my (lower life) on your account I might find it (higher life). Father, you gave Jesus to be my example. He has returned to you, Father and has sent the Holy Spirit to be my Helper and guide. In this world there are temptations, trials and tribulations, but Jesus has overcome the world, and I am of good cheer. Jesus is my Lord. I choose to
I belong to Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, who breaks down and destroys every yoke of bondage. In His name and in obedience to your will, Father, I submit to the control and direction of the Holy Spirit whom you have sent to live in me. I am your child. All to you I surrender. I am an overcomer by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

or thirty-eight years, a man was lamed and went to the Pool of Bethesda to be healed. But whenever the angel stirred the water, others would go in and get healed before him, as he was waiting for somebody to put him in. Jesus, knowing the potential of this man, and knowing that he was lamed for thirty-eight years, said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” (John 5:6). The man’s excuse was, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”Jesus knowing the power of ‘getting up’ from where we are, said to the man, “Rise up and walk.” The man got and stepped out and was never the same again. Are you like this man today? How long have you been sitting down on the dream that God has given you? How long have you been living in scarcity? How long have you been living in your abusive situation? Stop finding excuses for your conditions and step out at the count of three. There is power in a single step. The enemy’s job is to confuse and convince you that there is no hope. You may say, “I want to pursue my education but there is no money” or “I know this relationship is not good for me but how will I take care of my children?” God did

not give you the spirit of fear. He promised to be with you all the way. All He wants you to do is to make that first step and you will be surprised at how providence steps in to supply you with all that is needed. I’m not saying that it will be easy, as the devil will consistently attack you; but if you stand firm on the promises of God, you will overcome and will succeed in whatever you set

out to do. Do not sit down and wait for things to be better as they may never be until you’ve made that step. The longer you wait for conditions to be right, the more frustrated you will become. Listen to the still small voice speaking to you and step out by faith at the count of three. The scripture says, “Faith without work is dead” If you say you have faith and you sit down waiting on conditions to be right, then you are deceiving yourself. Where is the faith? Why are you allowing reality to determine your first step? Faith does not work well with reality. Look to Jesus the Author and Finisher of your faith; “for your success does not depend on your potential or opportunity, but rather on your faith.” There are many who have gone on before with dreams that were never realized. Somebody says that the richest place on earth is the cemetery. Many rich talents and abilities have been buried because people refused to get up and make that step. Don’t give up the dream that God has given you. He gave it to you only because he knows that you can do it. He has already provided everything that you need to be successful, but you have to make that step. So here it is. At the count of three make your step. One, two, three; go and never look back.

Occupy ... Until I Come
e are all familiar with the story of the ten pounds where a certain nobleman went into a far country to conquer a new kingdom. He gave each of his ten servants a pound and charged them to occupy until his return. We later see that only two of the ten were faithful. They invested their master’s money; one had an increase of one thousand percent and the other of five hundred percent. A third servant buried the pound and made no profit. We know what happened to him! (Luke 19:12-27) Have you given any thought of owning a home? Real estate has always been the safe investment of choice as well as nothing replaces the sense of achievement and pride in owning the house you live in. Nowadays interest rates are extremely competitive and without a doubt, it is a buyer’s market. Real estate costs are at an all-time low; experts are predicting a remarkable upturn in the market within the next two to five years. What does that by Joan Haughton mean? Well, a house currently valued at $350K could very well appreciate by fifty to seventy percent or even greater in five years. Some of you who are renting should really look into options to own your own home. In many cases your mortgage payment may be less than what you pay in rent; especially if you invest in a multiple family home with rental income potential. Lately, I have come across families, parent with adult children or adult siblings who have combined resources and purchased multiple family dwellings for their primary home. Each have their own private apartment for their family (spouse and children) and their monthly expenses are more manageable than if they rented from separate landlords. As property value increases these families could refinance and purchase individual properties if they so choose. My advice is talk to a qualified professional who could guide you through the process. If you are in the Bronx or adjoining areas, I would love to hear from you. Remember, God has a vested interest in our success. Our success guarantees that we will Build the Kingdom! Joan A. of Pastor the Month

Founder of the healing ministry at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Pastor Trudy was born in Yonkers, N.Y., to a working class family that lived in Hastings-on-Hudson, in a white house without much of a lawn even though her mother would diligently keep trying to make the grass grow! The deadend street she lived on was the stage on which much of her life would be played out. There she lived until she married “the boy next door.” Trudy was prepared for ministry by her active participation in her local church and community. After graduating with a teaching degree from Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois, she went to New York City to teach third and fourth grade at St. Matthew’s School on 203rd Street. After two years of teaching, she returned to the suburb of Scarsdale to teach for the next ten years. Trudy was married in 1967, and had her only child Scott in 1969. The birth of Pastor Trudy’s real ministry began when her life was turned upside down by her husband’s diagnosis of manic depression and the impact it had on her life. She

sought God for healing for her husband, and that journey brought her to a new perspective on the Christian walk. Pastor Trudy began to seek God in a way she had never done before. She was baptized in the Holy Spirit and began to experience a desire to see God heal people. Along with a group of fellow Christians, she opened the Christian Care and Counseling Center at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. Once again in 1985, her destiny took her to New York City and Grace Lutheran Church, where she continued to develop her healing ministry after having been ordained a certified lay minister. While at Grace Church, Pastor Trudy became involved in the reformation of an organization of twentyfive Lutheran churches from throughout the city and became its first president. Manhattan was to become the focal point of Pastor Trudy’s healing ministry, after being ordained a pastor by Christ International Center of Mt. Vernon, New York, in 1992. She founded the healing ministry at The Church of the Holy Trinity on E.88th Street,
he time we are now living in has caused many to feel insecure. One doesn’t know what tomorrow will bring: loss of a job, loss of a home or dramatic tax increases. These are the financial issues that seem to be plaguing us, and they produce many harmful effects on families and relationships, which in turn affect us physically. Insecurity is the new epidemic which, with each new crisis, grows. Is it dangerous? Yes. It causes us to behave in many ways that undermine who we are and perhaps even our health. We have become a society that worships thinness, youth and beauty, without regard for its cost. Plastic surgery, which used to be a thing Hollywood did, is now common-place for men, women, and even teens. We all have insecurities because we are human, but are these insecurities keeping us from our ability to be effective in accomplishing what God has called us to be? Are they limiting us in using our God given gifts and talents? What is insecurity? Self doubt, uncertainty about our worth, lack of confidence, unrealistic expectations,

which continues today. It was during the early days in the city that Pastor Trudy met Pastor Ivan Cortes who, along with her ministry partner, Mrs. Rinda Sternberg, were to be the founders of Tri-Une Healing & Restoration Ministries, Inc., in 1993. Pastor Trudy and Pastor Ivan Cortes have ministered throughout NYC at various churches as well as in West Kill, New York, where Pastor Trudy built a house-church. Recently, Tri-Une Ministries has expanded to Utica, New York, where the ministry purchased a parsonage for some of the pastors that it ordained in that area. Pastor Trudy’s journey has been touched by many pastors who helped, encouraged and made a way for her ministry. In turn, she has dedicated herself to helping others find healing in the way that they need it. She has a monthly radio show, “A Time for Healing,” out of Albany, New York (1330 AM). The radio show can be heard on the ministry’s website, triuneministries.com. God has used Pastor Trudy to encourage many people through her prophetic words, spiritual discernment, wisdom and great
caring. Whenever she is asked why she chose the healing ministry, Pastor Trudy replies that she has always wanted to help people have better lives and promised God that if He helped her survive all the trials that she went through, she would spend her life helping others survive to develop their spiritual gifts. INSECURITY – by Rev. Trudy Daley
and being easily threatened are some of the th 0ngs that define insecurity. What has created all this insecurity within us? There are many circumstances that can contribute to our insecurity: one may be instability at home which may be as a result of fighting, abuse, addiction, financial concerns, sickness or mental illness. If you have a loss of something- parent, home, sibling or other caregiver- this may create insecurity. Any way in which you experienced rejection can make you feel insecure. A major change in your life, can make you feel insecure. Many people stay in terrible situations for fear of making a change which may result in a feeling of insecurity. How are we to deal with our insecurity? First and foremost, we need to stop looking to people for validation and look to God who created us in His image, to reveal to us who we are and what He created us to do
while on earth. Seeking the approval of others, gives them the power to control our lives, which can be dangerous. It is often used against us. Each of us tends to have one thing that we believe would make us more secure in all things, if only we possessed it. It could be money, thinness, looks, a certain job or to be married, but this is a lie. Achievement in any of these areas does not bring us security. Insecurity breeds fear, especially fear of loss. Our minds often get carried away imagining all that could happen, even when we know from past experience that most of it will not happen. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you have within you the truth and power to overcome all the circumstances that created your insecurity. For in Him, there is no darkness, no deception, no fear and no insecurity. Jesus has come
is available to do seminars on various topics related to healing, healing services, and to support other pastors as they go through a personal or church crisis. Each year the ministry has an annual celebration in West Kill, which God has used to touch many lives through the prophetic word He has Pastor Trudy give and the anointed worship led by Evangelist, Pastor David Ossenfort. to set us free – free from insecurity. In Psalm 8: 3-5, we read that “we were made a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned with glory and honor.” A crown sits on our heads and covers our minds. What God has given us is the knowledge of how important we are to Him, even if we don’t feel that way. We need to choose to recognize who we are in God and not allow our insecurities to drive our actions. God is the source of all that we need. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He knows everything that will ever happen to us and has already made plans to help us in each situation, if we will call upon Him. Choose today to trust God to help you overcome your insecurities and become the person He created you to be. Ask God to show you how He sees you and the plans He has for your life. His plans are to prosper you, heal you, love you, reassure you and help you in every way that you need. We can be secure in God and His love. Concepts taken from Beth Moore’s book, SO LONG, INSECURITY. – by Rev. Trudy Daley, Tri-Une Healing & Restoration Ministries, Inc.

IN THE PIMPS PULPIT – by Pastor Shermaine M. Laster
A
As I sat and thought what I could write about for this article, I realized that I could just come with the truth, which is; Leaders Stop ‘Pimping’ God’s People. Speaking off of experience as a former pimp, (I haven’t had the robe on all my life). There came a point when as a pimp, I realized how I could get money legally and that’s when I turned to the church. I placed the robe on, told the people what they wanted to hear, all while chasing skirts and sleeping with the clergy apostles and pastors! My hand was in the people’s purses and wallets; I never cared for them and never used the word ‘love’ with true meaning. I lied and deceived the people for my own personal gain. This was so easy because unfortunately most people do not encompass the gift of discernment to know the difference between God’s spirit and a familiar spirit. The Lord came to me in the form of a prophet, the realest person that I’d ever met; and told me that I needed
trying to keep their lights and gas on, and maintain roofs over their heads. It’s time to stop trying to sell God. Men and women called by God in a prophetic office need to speak this FREE word and be a PROPHET not a PROFIT. Why do Pastors take offering as soon as you walk into the church? Why do the leaders have $100, $50 AND $20 lines? Some may say that I am hurting the body of Christ by the words that I am speaking, but I say YOU’RE hurting the body of Christ by remaining silent. Open your mouths just as the apostle Paul said speak boldly as the Spirit gives utterance. Remaining silent allows the devil to wreak havoc in lives. This is why so many churches are crashing and so many Mega churches are lasting. The body of Christ is on Life support and the pimps are pulling the plug. I have done deliverance on leaders with demons of pride, homosexuality, lust, fornication, adultery. Are you sick and
The Body of Christ is on life support and the Pimps are pulling the plug. to be delivered from my womanizing, lying and deceitful ways. Let me add before I go any deeper that I am raw and uncut, if you don’t know it by now, surely you will by the end of this article. There are many leaders out here today; leaders in the potters house, in Texas and Atlanta that have in fact been pimping the people for quite some time. People its time to wake up! Jesus was never flamboyant. Jesus was a giver; Jesus thought of man first, Jesus wasn’t a rich man. So please someone tell me why there are so many leaders with mansions, leer jets and Bentleys while the members are still living in poverty. A Pimp will show off he likes fancy cars, likes to dress and loves the women. But most importantly, he’s in love with the money and he will lie on God to get it. This is why there is less deliverance taking place and more money being exchanged. If you actually sat and thought about all the money you gave for the year most of it was to some bootleg drunken, adulterer. Just because they have a robe on, don’t be deceived. These leaders need a shower, not the kind with soap and water, but the spiritual kind. Ask yourself why so many women cling to clergy. In a wicked and evil way, a pimp can sleep at night when his hoes are out in the street as long as they’re making his money. A preacher who’s supposed to be preaching the gospel and praying over your soul will sleep at night while members are desperately
tired of leaders saying God wants to do something awesome in your life? Well can I tell you that God has already done something awesome. You are a livimg testimony of that fact. We have strayed away from the Words that will get us into the kingdom. Words such as repentance, sanctification, obedience, salvation, and love are being replaced with sow seeds. Many leaders reject the
“I placed the robe on, told the people what they wanted to hear, all while chasing skirts and sleeping with the clergy, apostles and pastors!” Word because Truth hurts. I have been shut down by the leaders, churches and mega churches, so they think. But God has called me to do a job, and that is to help the people in times of trouble, to edify and teach them. God’s House of Grace Ministries asks you to fear God, do the works and speak up against wrongdoings in the church. The lost isn’t the people in the streets; it’s the people in the churches. ********** God’s House of Grace Ministries asks that you help us in the fight against homelessness, HIV/AIDS, teaching the youth, assisting ex-offenders and the battle against domestic violence. We ask for donations to support our move! NO GAMES, JUST GOD’S TRUTH

Women Seeking a Fresh Start Find Strength at Conference Hosted by Bishop T.D. & Serita Jakes DALLAS, Oct. 15, 2010—Women from Dallas and beyond the U.S. borders are receiving much-needed assistance from The Potter’s House as Bishop T.D. Jakes and Mrs. Serita Jakes prepare to host Woman, Thou Art Loosed in Dallas Oct. 21-23. Woman Thou Art Loosed is a conference designed to address the needs of women from all backgrounds, generations and cultures. Because ministry is more than just meeting the spiritual needs of the people, Woman, Thou Art Loosed provides an avenue for women to come together to meet their physical needs as well. Since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Potter’s House is bringing love and healing to women and children victimized by domestic abuse through various awareness and outreach efforts. Domestic violence survivor Donna Chatman knows the importance of bringing attention to this crisis. She survived domestic abuse during a time when there were no resources for women. That was 40 years ago, but her body still bears the scars that her abuser inflicted on her. After years of living in fear and enduring verbal and physical assaults, she finally gained the strength to remove herself and her children from the abusive relationship. At first, Chatman was embarrassed to let anyone know of her ordeal, but when she began working with other domestic abuse survivors through
Rahab International Ministries, the domestic violence ministry of The Potter’s House, she discovered that she was not alone. “I learned not to be ashamed of my past. I was embarrassed that I was abused so severely, but I learned that everyone has issues. When I started working with Rahab International Ministries and listening to other ladies’ testimonies, I realized that I was not the only one. And it was nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about,” says Chatman, who is one of an estimated 3 million victims of domestic assault. Chatman has been involved with Rahab since its 1997 inception and now serves as the program’s executive director. Through Rahab International and MegaCARE, the humanitarian
organization affiliated with The Potter’s House, volunteers recently donated their time and assistance at various domestic violence shelters located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by providing clothing, supplies, personal care items, maintenance, repairs as well as support and encouragement.
Teams of volunteers also traveled recently to the Dominican Republic to offer practical help to women in the country who were involved in human trafficking, a prevalent problem in the exploitation of women. The teams worked to educate the women on the importance of health check-ups and free HIV screenings and also encouraged them to enroll in job skills training classes. “Domestic violence is a community problem,” says Aneta Wells, case manager with The Family Place, a domestic violence center. She is grateful for the recent contributions from volunteers. “If you are in a domestic violence situation and you have someone reaching out to you, listening to you, praying for you and showing you that someone cares, it makes a difference. Through Rahab, MegaCARE and Woman, Thou Art Loosed, women are provided the necessities they need as they start on a new journey.”
About The Potter’s House
Located in Dallas, The Potter’s House is a 30,000-member church led by Bishop T. D. Jakes, twice featured on the cover of Time magazine as “America’s Best Preacher” and as one of this nation’s “25 most influential evangelicals.”
About Rahab International Ministries
Rahab International Ministries promotes domestic violence awareness. Established in 1997, Rahab operates under the WoMan to Woman Ministries of The Potter’s House, which is led by Executive Director Serita Jakes. Since its inception, Rahab has evolved from ministering to a small sector of women, and now assists thousands of women and children whose lives have been impacted by domestic abuse.
Bishop T. D. Jakes’ Women’s Conference Ends On High Note DALLAS, October 26, 2010 — On the culmination of a three-day women’s conference that drew in everyone from Hollywood to the homeless, Woman, Thou Art Loosed ended just as it begun — on a high note! “Once you know your purpose, it changes everything,” Bishop T. D. Jakes told the crowd of some 10,000 multigenerational, multicultural women who traveled from near and far to The Potter’s House of Dallas just to receive encouragement and inspiration from some of the country’s most gifted and well-known speakers and artists. “I love Bishop Jakes,” said one Chicago woman while standing in line to buy a Woman Thou Art Loosed T-shirt. She traveled from the Windy City just to attend the conference and had no intentions of leaving without her signature souvenir. “I can relate to his messages. At times I feel that he is speaking directly to my heart and I’m going to wear this shirt as a reminder of the impact that his sermons and this conference have made in my life.” The conference opened Thursday afternoon with “Girl Talk” hosted by Serita Jakes, wife of the prominent Bishop Jakes, who Time magazine labeled “America’s Best Preacher.” The panel discussion addressed real topics concerning real women. Actor Boris Kodjoe, along with other experts, joined Mrs. Jakes in the relevant and timely discussion. That evening Bishop Jakes delivered a soul-stirring message that moved the audience to thunderous applause, loud cheers and heartfelt tears. On Friday, attendees were inspired by Dr. Cindy Trimm, Dr. Cynthia James, Pastor Sheryl Brady and renowned vocalist Karen Clark Sheard. The famed Angela Bassett
also graced the stage as a surprise guest and made mentions of Jakes’ soonto-be released m o v i e Jumping The Broom, in which Bassett has a starring role. Jakes also showed a clip of the move that he and his wife pegged a “dramedy.” On Saturday morning, the last day of the conference, which has attracted more than a half million women worldwide since its 1992 inception, Judge Glenda A. Hatchett of the syndicated TV show “Judge Hatchett,” shared a poignant testimony with the women as she encouraged the capacity crowd to never give up. During his finale sermon, Jakes closed out the conference by summing up the theme and reminding women of the aptly chosen excerpt from Proverbs 27:17, which he used to persuade women to continue to strengthen one another, “This is iron sharpening iron,” Jakes said.

n these last days where the enemy is forcefully attacking marriages, it is necessary to put on the “Whole armor of God” (Ephesians 6 : 11-18) Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to
stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. “ You’ve got to fight for your marriage! Sometimes you are tempted to hold in your mind what your husband or your wife did yesterday, but you cannot leave room for the devil to come in. Forgive! Let it go. Put it where it belongs, behind you. The devil would hate that he tried to bring confusion in your home, and after the incident, you say to your husband or wife, “ I forgive You,” and you proceed to respond to your spouse in a loving manner,
by doing something nice with him or her, or do something with him or her. Stop looking at what your partner did, keep looking at what you have to do for your marriage and your partner. Let it begin with you. You are accountable to God for your actions, not what your partner did. This is a form of fighting. Love never lost a battle. “Love conquers All”. Love may be one
of the simplest tools we can use to put the devil in his place, under your feet. Love the is gift that people find very difficult to give. Yet it is the most valuable and effective tool to bring positive changes in relationships and marriages. Let Love be the bond that hold your marriage together, and the tool that destroys S at a n’s assignment. God is love.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which He had made. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.
And it shall be, if He say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because He is well with thee.
Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he has given you and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.

Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

HEALTH How to Lose Weight Diet in the Key of Cee – Eating Well Serves Living Well

sn’t it ironic how Thanksgiving is associated with turkey and turkeys are associated with that notorious sound, gobble, gobble, gobble? Well, gobble, gobble, gobble, is what most of us do when we sit down to have thanksgiving dinner. Everything that’s been delicately prepared and arranged on the table looks so appealing and mouth watering that most of us just can’t wait to dig in. Once we dig in all we seem to do is just gobble, gobble, gobble. Eating more than we need and in such a rush, we then start to experience indigestion and feelings of discomfort. As a result many people tend to slouch in their chairs while loosening their pant belt, button, zipper or maybe even all three in order to ease the feeling of uneasiness making way for more food. Year after year gluttony seems to win over self control which more than likely will result in the not so pleasant, acid reflux. Acid reflux is the regurgitation (backward flow) of stomach contents into the esophagus (food pipe). This reflux will leave you tasting sour food in
These days this may well be the number one question of roughly 50 percent of Americans. The rate of obesity has soared in the past twenty (20) years. So has the number of diets claiming to work at losing weight. Many of these diets will work because the calories eaten/recommended are far less than what you may have been consuming. Some diets call for eating specific foods. However, in order to keep the weight off, it requires you to be educated about dieting, food and how the body uses food, why you gained weight in the first place, the barriers to losing the weight, and the need for support in achieving your goal. . The goal for anyone should be to achieve good health, and losing weight is only part of it. Losing weight is not simply eating less and exercising. 1. Begin by writing down all the reasons you can think of for losing weight. Read it to yourself every day for about two (2) weeks. 2. Choose a highly nutritious diet program that teaches how to plan and selfmonitor your intake. This may require you to sit with a dietitian/nutritionist (beware of those who are not credentialed). He or she will also be able to work with you in
identifying your barriers to staying on the plan to lose weight, to decrease your fears, and motivate you to reach your goal. 3. You need to lose weight slowly and sensibly, and to maintain the program in order to keep the weight off. You need a certain amount of nutrients for your body type (ideal weight for age, height and activity). You may not lose weight every single week, even if you follow the program rigorously. That is because of hormonal changes, illness, or water shifts in the body. 4. Know the difference between hunger and a craving. If you have just eaten and feel the need to eat, sometimes all you may need is a drink of water. Stick to planning your food intake to avoid cravings.. Again, your dietitian can help you with this. 5. After a while your weight may plateau (not gain anymore). When this happens you will need to decrease intake, or increase exercise, or both. Be sure to do this with the help of your nutritionist. To find a dietitian in your area go to www. eatright.com 6. Do realize that at first the program may seem easy because you are highly motivated to lose (weight). Then
it can become a challenge as you begin to feel the restriction of the diet, or the refusal of the scale to show weight loss. That is normal, but stick to it and it will become easier again, as time goes on. The best is yet to come. You have taken the first step in your plan to lose weight and become healthier.
It’s GERD Season By: Dr. Sophia Mattis, MD, MHSA
the back of your mouth and maybe even a burning sensation in your chest (heartburn). If this reflux persists, becoming chronic, it may lead to a more severe disorder commonly known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The terms acid reflux and GERD tend to be interchangeable. Often they are identified as the same disorder; they are however two different disorders. Acid reflux is the event which precedes GERD while GERD is the result of chronic or prolonged bouts of reflux – it is a more severe form of reflux. When a person suffers from two or more episodes of reflux or heartburn in one week or if this reflux impedes one’s lifestyle this is when a health care provider will assign the diagnosis of GERD. Frequent bouts of reflux cause the esophagus to be exposed to acid. This chronic acid
exposure becomes an irritant to the esophagus eventually leading to the condition known as GERD. When GERD is not properly managed it may lead to an esophageal stricture (chronic acid exposure causes scarring then narrowing), esophageal ulcer (an open sore in the esophagus) or the more feared, Barrett’s esophagus (pre-cancer of the esophagus). If a stricture or ulcer occurs, it may become difficult to swallow and if an ulcer is present, bleeding may be noted along with pain. So what causes GERD?
GERD is caused when the lower esophageal sphincter becomes weak and relaxes allowing stomach contents to backwash (reflux) into the esophagus. This sphincter is responsible for constricting the lower portion of the esophagus, closing it off from the stomach. Normally when we swallow, that sphincter relaxes allowing the esophageal contents to enter into the stomach and once all esophageal contents are emptied into the stomach, the sphincter then closes. If this sphincter becomes weak or incompetent, the stomach contents are then allowed to enter into the esophagus becoming an irritant to the region. Certain foods we eat act as an initiator of lower esophageal sphincter relaxation. Foods high on the list of aggravating substances include: caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, fatty and fried foods, garlic, onion and mint. Obesity, asthma, diabetes, Zollinger-
Ellison syndrome, dry mouth, pregnancy, smoking, hiatal hernia, any connective tissue disorder and more are all conditions playing an important role in increasing ones risk for GERD. As you can see, the list is quite extensive symbolizing that GERD affects a good amount of people worldwide. Most people are either battling with one of the above said conditions, indulging one of the foods listed above or maybe even both. Symptoms may include: dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), dry cough, lump in your throat sensation, chest pain, hoarseness or sore throat, heartburn and regurgitation of food or sour liquid. If you are experiencing any one of these symptoms often or if you are using over the counter medication to alleviate heartburn more than twice a week, then it is recommended that you see your health care specialist. Some tests your doctor may order will include an X-Ray of the upper digestive tract area. For this test you will be given a liquid to drink which helps to illuminate any Cont’d on pg. 31

he presence of the new season fall, displays an array of beautiful multi-coloured leaves. In addition with fall there is a more rainfall, cooler but tolerable temperatures with the use of extra clothing, reduced outdoor activities and the list goes on. Some of us make the choice of considering in advance and in a troublesome manner that very soon another season will be approaching. Some of our lives are like the season of fall. Some beautiful good things which we thought would be around for a long while have left us, disappeared or have been lost. What is the valuable possession we have lost? Has someone broken a promise? Have we lost material things we value? Have we fallen into devastating financial hardships? The list of all the terrible falls go on. It is a fact that some of us thought that these things when available meant “sunshine” and happiness, like summer’s warmth. In our season of fall, the beautiful colours or experiences or happenings may have misled us allowing us to feel that things are good and better is about to happen. We think this way even although we see changes taking place and we do not know what to expect from one moment to the next. The changes

still look “colourful” as time goes by but, alas the result is the natural effect of the fall season. We are stripped of our leaves. Indeed our beautiful leaves may have fallen but, the most serious fall is to choose to “fall” deliberately out of His Sovereign plan for our lives by handling these “falls” our way. As an unsaved person, have you chosen to remain in a fallen position of sin and shame, fighting daily to regain all other things lost except the most important thing, a relationship with Christ. Absence of this relationship in any life is indeed the symptom of FALL. There seem to be beauty in the colours, but it will vanish away and all will be lost. The good news for all is that no matter the type of fall that is experienced,

God’s grace is able with our obedience to pick us up. His grace is sufficient 2 Corinthians 12:9. Let us not remain one day longer in our fallen position and rot as the leaves from trees which fall to the ground. These leaves have no hope of getting back on to the trees and they eventually are lost forever. Let us be renewed in our minds no matter our fall by allowing the ever flowing grace offered through the death and resurrection of Jesus to sustain us in our falls spiritually, physically, mentally, financially and socially. Stand firm on the word of God – Jeremiah 29:11 – Our God has a good plan for us. Seek Him with all our hearts, pray and we will find Him - Jeremiah 29:12-14.

It is necessary that as we go through the fall season of our lives, let us cease from struggling. Let us look to the word of God and be reminded of those trees which although they have very “spiny leaves” remain firm, without their effort, but only through God’s plan for them. No matter what happens to them with or without leaves, our hope for our precious plants is that new leaves will come back to them once God changes the season. Let this be our hope with God’s help for our human lives. Let us seek to pray, cover ourselves with the Word of God, as we praise and worship God with sincere trust in Him to restore. All things will work to our good as we fit into God’s purpose - Romans 8:23. Believe that some plants are taken indoor by their owner as the owner sees fit and that God will in one way or the other offer us protection and a “cloak” once we allow our minds to feed on and live in the right soil condition, even as we are in our fall season. He will take us “indoors” according to His plan, closely under His wings. God will care for us tenderly like His plants. He is indeed our refuge – Psalm 46:1-3, 11. FIRE DESTROYS HOLY LOVE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH OF GOD
A
n electrical fire engulfed Holy Love Pentecostal Church of God, located at 998 Rutland Road, in East Flatbush on Tuesday October 26, 2010 at 3:50 am. During the time of the blaze, no one was in the sanctuary. Two police officers noticed smoke coming from the building as they were conducting their routine patrol. Fire fighters from Division 15 were called to the scene as they battled for about an hour the twoalarm fire. According to FDNY Deputy Chief, Rocco Rinaldi, he told a newscaster “When we arrived we had a heavy smoke condition in the front and heavy fire condition in the rear of the church on the first floor. We were able to put it (the fire) out through the rear. Because there were a lot of chairs in the church, we couldn’t get through (the front).” They evacuated
the upper floor tenants unscathed. One fire fighter was treated at an area hospital for injuries. Ultimately, the church was destroyed except for one thing: the Lord’s Supper Table, on which the parishioners received communion. The Lord does indeed send messages to us. Reverend Michael Ottey is known in the community for his charity. He has often-taking money from his pocket to help the needy by supplying them with food, clothes and money. He is known for requesting special collections for the ill and handicapped. Pastor Ottey and some church members have often conducted missions that sent clothes and food to orphanages in the Philippines and Jamaica. Buildings can be burned to ash but like the phoenix, the faith of less than 100 members of the church, the members that you see handing out tracks on the corner when others are about their business of enjoying their leisure time on the weekends, rise like angels to set about the work of rebuilding the structure that was destroyed. Their faith, like that of Job, is unshaken. Holy Love Pentecostal Church of God is accustomed to hardship. The church started in a small basement and remained in that circumstance for quite a while. The small storefront church was a step up for the physical location but the faith and commitment were the same, as Reverend Ottey stated, “We are not just an apostolic church but our foundation is founded in the word-we preach and live by the word.” No Hell fire, no matter how hot, can burn the word of God. The faith and charity of the members reigns and quenches the thirst of lost and longing souls. Like a vessel from which spiritual waters flow, Holy Love Pentecostal Church will continue to quench the thirst of the needy in this dry and desert land. God is great and his will prevails. The church will be hosting a fund-raising fall banquet on November 27, 2010; they solicit your support, if possible. All proceeds will go toward rebuilding the sanctuary. For further details, the church may be reached at m.otteyhlp.@gmail.com On behalf of Reverend Dr. Michael Ottey Sr. and the Holy Love Pentecostal family, they ask for your continued prayers and support in their time of hardship.

Another test may be done by using a scope - endoscopy - to look inside the upper digestive tract at which time the doctor may take a sample of the tissue – biopsy- to rule out any abnormalities. A pH probe test may be done as well to determine when and the duration of time stomach acid regurgitates into the esophagus. If you are experiencing heartburn/chest pain plus pain in your jaw/arm and shortness of breath please seek immediate medical attention as this

may be signs of a heart attack. Having knowledge of what causes GERD is priceless as this is your arsenal when fighting against acquiring this disease. However, for those individuals who are actual sufferers of the disease, your next step is to find out what modalities are used in order to start the healing process in addition to preventing future complications. Some things you may want to avoid would be those previously listed foods which may exacerbate reflux. Avoid tight fitting clothes around the waist since such type of clothing puts pressure on the esophageal sphincter which may lead to reflux. After having

that palate pleasing meal, be sure to avoid lying down for at least 2 – 3 hours after eating. Also, maintaining a healthy weight is imperative since obesity is one of the leading causes of GERD. Now if all else fails, you may then have to resort to medication. Over-the-counter medications may be effective in mild cases. So things like Maalox, Mylanta, Rolaids and Tums may provide fast relief. Others such as Prevacid, Tagament, and Prilosec may also be beneficial providing longer term relief. If all those fail, the next step is to resort to prescription strength medication such as: Tagament, Pepcid, Zantac, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex and Prilosec. Failure to get relief after using both over-the-counter and prescribed meds will cause your doctor to recommend surgery. Surgery however is a last resort. Meanwhile,

some alternative methods have been proven effective in alleviating the symptoms of reflux. Acupuncture, stress and anxiety management techniques as well as several herbal remedies like chamomile, slippery elm, licorice, etc… have also provided some relief. So before you loosen your belt making room for some more thanksgiving goodies you may want to think twice as to the possible repercussion of overeating. You may also want to take into consideration which foods you will enjoy as you attempt o refrain from those culprits that cause the lower esophageal sphincter to become slack. Remember, it is possible for you to indulge without overindulging. Have yourself a healthy and wonderful gobble gobble day. So until we meet again, be blessed always and may God be your guide.
