GOSPEL ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Evangelist Marvia Providence

G

ospel vocalist Marvia Providence has done something very few Gospel artists have been able to do; she has pierced the mainstream by bringing her island rhythms and fresh sounds to the music scene. This blessed and outstanding lady was eight years old when she discovered her talent as a gospel artist. However it was in 1985 when she fully committed her life to Christ Jesus that her spirit was caught up with her mission for the international community and the universal body of Christ. It was music that led her to find her own voice in the vast arena of gospel, thus thrusting her into what is now a growing and successful ministry. Marvia earned her ministerial licensed as a gospel minister and found her office in the five-fold ministry as an Evangelist after pursuing a Bachelor's degree course at the Emmanuel Bible College in Kitchener, Ontario. She graduated in the year 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies which better equipped and assisted her in delivering the oracles of God that she whole heartedly believes God has given her for our generation. As an anointed Evangelist and conference host, .she has ministered the gospel and shared the stage in several conferences with other great ministers such as TV Evangelist Paula White, Eddy Long, John Francis, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Sheryl Brady, Beverly Crawford, Bishop Neil C. Ellis and many other great men and women of God.

Marvia’s musical style is heavily influenced by the warm sounds of the Caribbean to the traditional sounds of Southern Gospel. Her soulful and sometimes raspy voice has woven its way through the tapestry of gospel music, weaving a picture of hope and passion for her listeners. After many years of hard work in the music industry her enterprising spirit and resilience was rewarded when as a solo artist her first recording with The Toronto Mass Choir on their album “Great is thy Glory” surfaced in 1992. But it was in 1994 that Providence received recognition and released her first album “Too Much to Gain to Lose” which raised her gospel music career into a higher crescendo. Her talent and ability to capture an audience and lead them into worship has taken her to several countries around the globe such as the United States, the UK, the Cayman Islands, Antigua, Trinidad, Turks & Caicos, Tortola, the Bahamas, Guyana, St Vincent, St. Kitts and Anguilla. She has shared the stage with ministers and artists such, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, The Grace Thrillers, Papa San, Chevelle Franklin and various other renowned artists in the gospel world. Marvia is a very kind and compassionate woman of God. As a gospel minister and humanitarian her beneficence is summoned into action when she sees people in need materially or spiritually. It is upon this threshold that she gains the opportunity to serve and give back to community the blessings the favor of God has bestowed upon her life. She therefore volunteers her time and services to several local churches and charitable organizations as the need arises through religious Conferences, Crusades, Praise and Worship Seminars empowering and impacting lives with God’s word. She was part of a group of caring artists known as the "Explorer Company," who spent a day with troubled students in a Toronto inner city school. That event touched the hearts of many and for appreciation the group was presented with a plaque from the Toronto School Board for their contribution.

Marvia knew her future was bright at her prime age and would always be at the fore-front. But little did she know that it would be from her own ministry. Her determined aspiration to take the Word of God to all nations plus the inclination of not to fail but fulfill the divine commission upon her life has given her a singular hope which is to continue to impact and touch lives through her music industry. The full support of her very handsome husband who is also a minister in the church she attends has incensed her ambition giving her the needed anchor to accomplish her destiny. She therefore feels blessed and privileged to be married to this loving servant of God whom she met on a mission field in Guyana in 1988. They got married in February, 2002 and ever since they are experiencing the favor of God upon their lives.

Lady June Sharing GOD’S Powerful Message Through Her Music

Louvella Green, aka Lady June, was always fated to pursue a career in gospel music. Amazingly, her interest in music

throughout the years, such as Donnie McClurkin, Claudel Clarke, Toots & the Maytals, John Holt, and the legendary country singer Jim Reeves, it is that ever present source of spiritual connection with the Lord that has guided and directed her approach to music. Three years in the making, Lady June’s latest album, Tears, is a compilation of powerful gospel songs that are sure to resonate with her listeners. This latest effort is notable enough to have garnered her an award by Love Gospel Radio for having the most popular gospel CD of 2009. With indomitable compositions such as Don’t Let the Devil See Your Tears, this latest effort is sure to be impactful. As she described it, her intention was to create an album of simple yet memorable songs that would convey the message of God through commonly shared experiences. Lady June has performed in the Caribbean as well as in the United States and is currently arranging a series of performances to spread the gospel and continue to inspire audiences. For bookings and other information, please call (646) 4887201, or email Lady June at lovellalong@aol.com.

began at age five in her native Jamaica, W.I., when she was encouraged to give an impromptu performance of Jesus Loves the Little Children. So exceptional was her performance that the fortunate few who were gathered to hear her knew immediately that she was destined for stardom. The fifth of fourteen children, Lady June perhaps received her appreciation of music from her mother who also sang, but it was her spiritual connection to God, which cultivated her love for music. This powerful connection would attract her to singing in church choirs as well as to develop a spiritual message through an unrealized skill for song writing. It was while performing in the studio one day, when she suddenly realized the ease with which she was able to compose lyrics, as she sang powerfully relevant words to an arranged track, all created in the moment, a gift of inspiration, without a single rehearsal or preparation. So, impressive was this ability that she astonished all who were present to hear her. During her early years she lent her talent to performing reggae, but ultimately returned to spreading the word by concentrating on her first love, which is gospel music. Though she has admired a number of brilliant artists

Marriage By Betty-ann Berazzah

two imperfect people trying to build a perfect marriage. Marriage is a testing ground; you learn more about yourself in a marriage than you learn in your years before marriage. Added to that, you are trying to learn about your partner. If you first acknowledge and allowed God to lead you to the mate that he has ordained for you, at it’s best, with the use of God’s word, and His guidance you can become what God intended you to be. If you neglected to acknowledge God in choosing your marital partner; then you would be operating outside of God’s Will for your life which will then leave open doors to the enemy, instead this could possible become all that the enemy intended it to be…

M

atthew 19:5 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’ Marriage is a learning experience. It is about

are asleep. It is the love that says to your partner, “ you have done well even when you know they could have done better. It is a love that says “I Love You” even when your partner has just done something that causes you to think you don’t feel love at that moment, but you know you still love him/her. You don’t feel it, you know it. This is “agape love” (unconditional love) that God gives to us even when we are not deserving of it. Sometimes love is Unspoken.

Love is one of the greatest gift that God has given to us; It is the greatest command given to us by God John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. It is one of the greatest tool that God has equipped us with, to nurture a good marriage. Love is something all of us know well, but do we really understand it. Love goes beyond buying expensive gifts and planning exciting trips for your partner, but there is another level of love that is rarely spoken of. It is a love that thinks of what your partner needs before they even mention it. It is a love that says I do not fully agree with your choice, but I will support you, because it is important to you. It is a love that causes you to stay up all night praying for your partner when you see the need to intercede on their behalf, even while they

LEGEND OF LEGENDS...continued

The Queen of Reggae Gospel” Claudelle Clarke

P

eople knew who I was before I got into church, because I had the ‘name’ in the ‘outside’ world. So, transition was not particularly difficult for me. It was not a problem for me, in terms of people already knowing my sound and my music. The secular producers also knew me, so they were willing to produce my gospel albums when I switched over; they only thought I was crazy! 5. Can you describe what it’s like for you to be singing gospel music as opposed to singing secular music? Is there a marked difference for you? When I started doing secular music, I knew I could sing. I had a ‘big’ and ‘loud’ mouth. When I got saved, I did not have a spiritual mentor to guide me. The one thing I wished was that I had started singing gospel way before then. Just watching people respond positively to the message in the gospel songs, were so worth the switch. Singing secular was like a ‘money thing’, but singing gospel is a ministry to me; a ministry that is so rewarding when you see people’s lives being changed. 6. So, you have recorded numerous albums throughout the years. Do you have a personal favorite album or favorite song from your own recordings? My older recordings are my favorites; songs like ‘Around God’s Throne’, ‘After All’, ‘Almost Persuaded’, ‘Not my Will’ and ‘That’s Enough’. Their words meant a lot to me at that time so they are counted as favorites. Another song that really meant a lot to me as a new Christian was ‘Just as I am’. This was the first song I sang in church when I got saved. Many people thought I did ‘Hurry Up’ but I did not popularize that song. Evangelist Higgins sang that song.

7. Aside from singing, what other activities/hobbies do you enjoy doing? I enjoy dancing, reading, and watching ‘comedy’ movies; I enjoy anything that makes me laugh. 8. Do you think there are any differences in today’s Jamaican gospel music as opposed to Jamaican gospel music of two or three decades ago? The only music I don’t really understand-yet- is the Christian dancehall with the Deejays. I don’t have a problem with this music trend at all. Just that I can’t understand what they are saying because they speak too fast or speak in terms I can’t understand. Old age, I guess (laugh). But if people have changed their lives because of their music, then more power to them and I would encourage them to go for it! Why? Because everyone has their own way of ministering to people, and artists should not condemn other artists for the way they choose to minister in music. I will be the last one to condemn any music artist and say ‘this is not right’. Ministry is ministry, no matter the form it comes in. Everyone has their own way of ministering. The only problem I find is that the Church has lost its ‘flavor’. It’s as if we are following the world, instead of the world patterning the church. We are supposed to be the leader, but instead we are followers. 9. Now, who is the ‘Claudelle’ of today? Can you describe ‘Claudelle’ to me? Same old-fashion Claudelle. Never change; still the same; what you see is what you get.(laugh)

Claudelle Clarke 'Today' (2009)

10. What is your future plan regarding a new album? Yes, I do have an album being released in September 2009 entitled ‘The Journey’. In fact, the ‘Album Launch’ event of my new album, is scheduled for September 26th 2009, at the Sheraton Hotel, 311 N University Drive, Plantation, Florida 33324, 6:30pm. My last album was released in 2005. The title of this new album, ‘The Journey’ is fitting as it has been a long journey in my music career and in the music industry, and it is appropriate to celebrate and emphasize that detail on this new album. Forty one years is a looong time! 11. Tell us a little bit more. Will there be any changes in your style of music on this new album? Oh yes, the overall style is definitely ‘Jamaican’, but there are different ‘flavors’ and, I am very open to those changes. It shows the different sides of ‘Claudelle’; it shows how versatile I am (smile). You would think my voice would have changed through out the years, but it remained the same. I am still singing the same songs in the same key I used to sing forty one (41) years ago. I am so thankful and I consider this a true blessing. I will celebrate my 60th birthday on November 1st 2009. This has proven to be one of my best and memorable projects. I am currently working with the producer, Hugh Campbell of Studio Max Records and it is so wonderful to be a part of this project as I had never been before. I have input on some of the details of the process. All my previous works that I have done for other producers, I never had any real input in the creation of my CD projects. I would just sing and go home. No one consulted me on anything or informed me on the process. The next thing I know, in a couple of weeks/months, I would hear the music on radio. My current producer, Hugh Campbell, allows me to feel like I am an important ‘voice’ in the decision making process of this project

and he values my input. So it is one of my best because I participate with my producer on the songs. 12. Give us a little preview. Which song on this new album is your favorite? That is kind of a hard thing to do right now. There are so many ‘hit’ songs on this album that I don’t know. Let’s see---‘It’s All Taken Care Of’ is such a powerful song to me. My daughter actually wrote one of the songs on this new album. It’s entitled ‘Glory Glory’. Of course, it is one of my favorites. 13. What do you value most in life? Right now, I value health and strength. I am also happy that I have maintained a certain standard in my Christianity, and I have been getting stronger spiritually. I am not where I used to be spiritually, mentally and physically. I may fall by the way but I do not stay down, I get up and move on. 14. Do you believe you are successful? Do you have any regrets in 41 years of ministry? I am successful. I wake up in the mornings and I have health and strength; I am successful. I feel good. I have no regrets. I am blessed. I am just a little disappointed in some things. Many times in my music career and within the music industry, people take me for granted. If I had continued in the secular music, I believe it would have had a terrible end for me, but I would have been recognized for my work. It is a hard pill to swallow at times, but I have found that in the Christian world, your talent is not valued as much as you would have liked it to be. The good thing is that my value comes from being a child of God, but its okay to be human sometimes. And that disappointment is my human self speaking (smile). 15. What is the one thing you would like for the Jamaican people to remember about you? I would like for them to remember that ‘Claudelle Clarke’ was a pioneer in Jamaican gospel music, who endured a lot to pave the way for many local artists of today. I want them to remember my struggles, so that when they come upon a personal battle in their own lives, they can remember that ‘Claudelle’ overcame her battles and paved the way for others, and they can do it too. A lot of singers would not have done what I did in those days, because they were faithful to their church’s rules and laws. I was obedient to God’s rules and laws. 16. What advice would you give to young gospel Jamaican artistes who are aspiring to be famous gospel singers? They should make sure they understand that their talent is a ministry. They should make sure they know they are singing for the right reasons. It’s not because they have a good voice and they can sing, but they should ask themselves the question: why am I singing? Is it to feel good or is it to be an instrument for God? We are the mouthpiece of God and we speak for Him, so if they are going to sing because they can sing, and not acknowledge that they are ‘here for God’, then they are in it for the wrong reasons. 17. Is there a message you have in your heart for the Jamaican people? Crime is so common in Jamaica right now, and it is easy for the Church to talk about praying for change, but there has to be action along with praying. So praying is not all of what we need to do, because faith without works is dead. Jamaica is historically a Christian nation, and if we let crime take over the nation, then it will be a really sad day for us. People should come together and work together. Jamaica is not the Jamaica I knew growing up. People do not care about others nor do they have respect for each others lives. Jamaicans need to get back to the basics: ‘one han’ can wash the other’. See, one person want to do something about the ills in society, but there are others who do not want to do participate in that venture. Even though I know there is more ‘good’ in Jamaica, than ‘evil’, it is hard because all you see are the ‘bad’ things. People should wake up and say ‘we are taking back our island, taking back our neighborhoods and

Soul Proclamations! The Creator, almighty God created me for a purpose. The lord has “predestinated and call” me to greatness. I must cultivate and discipline my capacity for destiny. I have the God conscience, and I possess the “Spirit of truth”. I walk in the knowledge and ordinances of my God. I am the victor, and not the victim. I am more than a “conqueror”, and I always “overcome”. I do not accept defeat; I have the “victory” in every area, and measure of my life. I have been “bought with a price,” through Christ Jesus. I am “redeemed from the curse by the blood of Jesus”. God has bestowed a unique and eloquent “anointing” upon me. Gen.1:27, Pet.4:19, Eccl.12:1, 1 Rom.8:28-29, Eph.3:11-12, Prov.20:18, 1 Cor.6:20/7:23, Ps.107:2/98:1, Gal.3:13-14, Rev.5:9-10, 1 John 5:4, John 16:13/17:17, 2 Tim.2:15. PS.20:6. 2 Sam. 22:33-34. Ps. 28:78. I am not oppressed, but I am impressed to be blessed by the Lord. Though, I am “cast down, but not destroyed,” I am “never forsaken by God.” “Despised and rejected of men

but chosen by God.” I am not forgotten, but I am remembered of the Lord. I will not be dismay, nor discourage. I will “encourage” myself “daily in the Lord.” I am armored to walk in the authority of God. “If God be for me, then who can be against me” I receive my heavenly father’s inheritance to proclaim the things that are rightfully mines, here on earth. “He daily loaded me with benefits.” I will not dwell in obscurity, because I was made to live my life in abundance. I have the power to catapult out of poverty. I am the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. I am liberated to reap bountiful “blessings”. Ps.37:11/25, Ps.68:19, Ps.103:2, 2 Cor.4:9, Heb.13:5, Is.53:3-5, Matt.21:42, Matt.25:34, Eph.1:14, Eph.3:11/20. Ps.23:1, Prov.10:22, Mal.3:10, Rev.5:12, Rev.3:21. Everyday, in everyway the lord is exalted, magnified, and glorified in my life. I was birthed and called to go from "glory to glory". I take preeminence over everything that is not of God in my life. I have the power and the permission, by God, to claim and possess all things that belong to me. He has called me out of darkness and poverty, into righteousness and prosperity. I am nourished, and I flourish by the promises of God. My new beginning is now! I am called for a purpose, and destine for greatness… It is so in the mighty name of Jesus. Phil.4:4, 6, 19, 3 John 3:2 Prov.10:22, Prov.11:25, Ps.31:21, Ps.5-6, Ps.34:3, 1 Pet.5:6, Matt.8:12.

Granville Oral Roberts was born in Ada, Oklahoma in January 1918. Oral Roberts was the fifth and youngest son of a Pentecostal minister, the Rev. Ellis Roberts. Roberts helped to lay the foundation in radio and television ministry. He developed a tent crusade in the 1950s which attracted crowds of up to 15,000 by the latter half of the decade. The tent would soon be promoted as the largest gospel tent in the world. By the time Roberts aired his first television program, he had developed a large radio following and a radio network that boasted over 16 stations. Over the years he built a large fellowship of “prayer partners” to which he became intimately responsive, offering to pray for their needs and the needs of anyone who wrote to him. By the 1980s, the ministry was receiving over 5 million pieces of mail a year from all over the world. During his lifetime, Roberts was the founder of a major university, Oral Roberts University, which he decided to construct after receiving a message from God. At one time, ORU had a dental school, law school and medical school. A beloved father and grandfather, Oral Roberts is survived by his son Richard, daughter Roberta, 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Bishop Dr Cecil G. Riley Bishop Dr Cecil G. Riley

Bishop Dr Cecil G. Riley is the Pastor of Freedom Hall Church of God, Brooklyn and the Bishop and overseer of the Freedom Hall Churches of God currently operating in New York, Florida, Jamaica and St. Vincent. Dr. Riley is an anointed evangelist and teacher who builds bridges across denomination generation, gender, race, culture and ethnicity. FAMILY: Bishop Cecil G. Riley was born on May 13, 1944 and hails from the distant shoes of Kingston, Jamaica West Indies. He is the youngest five children born to Rosalyn and George Riley. On August 20, 1977 Bishop Riley married Eleanor Ridgeway, a licensed cosmetologist and bookkeeper. This union produced two beautiful and marvellously gifted daughters, Elizabeth and Esther. A son-in-law, Duane Posey and grandson, Matthew are the newest addition to the family. RENAISSANCE: At the age of 18, Bishop Riley was lead to the Lord under the dynamic ministry of Bishop Dr. Wilfred A. Shaw. In that same year, Bishop Riley joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force. He quickly moved up the ranks and was then

the youngest member of the Force to achieve the prestigious position of Corporal. He migrated to the United States 1971 and in the outworking of history Bishop Riley finally acknowledged and yielded to the call of ministry in 1980 and was ordained an elder in 1981.With an urgent call and a vital message he organized Freedom Hall Church of God, Inc., at 438 Roger Avenues in Brooklyn, NY. The total population of the church at its inception was 10. However with Bishop’s Riley unique and exclusionary character, he blazed the trail of inclusion of various denominations, which transcended traditional religious barriers; denominational walls and spiritual stereotypes in an effort to reach God’s people everywhere. His anointed presentation of the Gospel and his sense of civil and community duties have brought him to the attention and demand of many distinguished religious, civic and political organization. Cecil G. Riley’s story is a fascination yet, obviously, a predestined one. The idea that a young inner city boy, born in Jones Town, Kingston and enthralled by the world of entertainment in cycle acrobatics who later became a professional sign artist then a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force with all indications pointing to the top, should be called and anointed of God to be overseer of His heritage. Certainly, God history is working his purpose out as year succeeds to years in ministry. This proves that presumptions and claims to who might have been specifically chosen of God are essentially about man made mythologies. In July 1992, the Reverend Cecil G. Riley was consecrated Bishop by the late Dr. Wilfred A. Shaw and Bishop Riley proceeded to organize the Freedom Hall Church, Florida, followed by Jamaica, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Queens and another in Jamaica. The Headquarters Church of Freedom Hall Churches of God is located at 629 Albany Ave in Brooklyn, NY where it has become an integral part of the community. Bishop Riley is a humanitarian and philanthropic leader who cares for all. His latest accomplishment is the establishment of the Freedom Hall Bible Institute, an accredited bible school, based in Brooklyn, NY.

LATONYA BLIGE T

hings are about to change in the Gospel world of music & LaTonya Blige is prepared to be a part of it. With a last name befitting a “Queen,” LaTonya Blige is ready to take the gospel music industry by storm. Anointed with her own personal message of change on her debut single, “It’s Coming” featuring her sister multi-platinum selling artist Mary J. Blige. LaTonya Blige is ready to fulfill God’s

purpose for her. LaTonya made her initial entrance into the music industry as a background singer & songwriter for her sister Mary J. Blige also known as “The Queen of Hip-Hop & R&B.” Her diligent work with Mary & creative songwriting skills was quickly recognized & LaTonya was blessed with the opportunity to write & co-write songs for other artists as well, including platinum-selling Bad Boy artist Faith Evans, Mariah Carey’s former female group “Allure”

& producer Chucky Thompson’s artist “Frankie.” Counting her blessings along the way, supporting her sister came easy for LaTonya. So in acknowledging LaTonya’s sincere dedication to her, at Mary’s request LaTonya eventually transitioned into a co-management position assisting in successfully navigating Mary’s career. And while her business experience in the industry would eventually prove itself to be helpful for her own career as well, LaTonya’s passion for singing & creating music continued to burn deep inside of her, propelling her to come from behind the scenes & into the spot light. Her undying fascination with music has positioned her now to walk her own path & fulfill the destiny that God has planned for her. Proving yet again that superior vocals & stunning good looks run in this family, LaTonya Blige debuts her spiritually moving single, “It’s Coming” feat. her multi-platinum selling sister Mary J. Blige along for this inspirational ride. And while Mary may have initially opened the doors for LaTonya to come through, this time around Mary returns the sisterly support & lends her voice to this soul-stirring track to aid LaTonya in deliver-ing her message of change & hope for the future. LaTonya Blige, a talented & gifted singer in her own right answers her spiritual calling with her debut single “It’s Coming” to continue to spread God’s word of a better tomorrow & that change is indeed on the way. Considering the state of the world today, many would say that LaTonya’s message of “hope” & “faith” is right on time. Essentially, she hopes to touch the lives of many people through her songs of inspiration, en-

S

couragement & upliftment, recurring themes that will remain consistent throughout her music. LaTonya is passionate about her relationship with God. And will continue to remain dedicated & loyal to creating music that speaks to the soul. Her debut single, “It’s Coming” feat. Mary J. Blige is just the beginning. LaTonya has been commissioned to be a voice of STRENGTH, of HOPE, of FAITH & of LOVE for God to people everywhere. And while there are many other gospel singers with the same message, THERE IS ONLY 1…LaTonya Blige!

t was truly a night of radical praise and worship, when Raw International Ministries presented some of the most dynamic gospel artists. The event was in aid of the building foundation for Humble Heart Fellowship Ministries. It was hosted by Doctor Aretha Wilson Pastor. Doctor Wilson is the founder and overseer for Raw International and Humble Heart Fellowship Ministries. Ministering in songs were Fari Jones, Soule, Cheraki Toussaint and Volume One, Phylis Thurston, Shiloh Brown and the Brown Brothers, Pastor Son, Sister Lavonne J. Wright, Antoine Hilton, Natalie Evans, Judah First and Kingdom Levites. The rich flavor of American gospel combined with the spice of the Caribbean gospel had the crowd electrified. Sister Natalie Evans, out of Jamaica, had the crowd standing and dancing in worship. She was followed by Pastor Son with a unique Jamaican DJ style of worship, then Sister Lavonne closed with a real holy ghost spirit-felt twenty minutes. Sponsors were Raw International Ministries and Kingdom Focus.Net and Evangelism Radio 93.5 FM, with artist manager, Brother Sheldon Evans.

astor Jean Pierre Usungu presented a powerful message of spiritual warfare and deliverance on Sunday December 13, 2009. The message was preached in English by Pastor Jean Pierre and translated in French by his brother, Minister Samuel Usungu. It was the final day of a three day crusade. The topic of his message was enough is enough. At the service, many testified about their deliverance. There were also students who received certificates for their graduation in the training of spiritual warfare and deliverance. The teacher was Minister Cheesberg. Pastor Jean Pierre Usungo is from the Congo in Africa. His church, which is attended by many nationalities, is located on East 34th Street on the corner of Snyder Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

A Prayer of Victory Over RESTAURANT COLUMN Depression of Life LIFESTYLE GLOBAL PRAYER MINISTRIES

Father, you are my refuge and my high tower and my stronghold in times of trouble. I lean on and confidently put my trust in you for you have not forsaken me. I seek you on the authority of your word and the right of my necessity. I promise you the help of my countenance and my God. Lord you lift up those who are bowed down therefore I am strong and my heart takes courage. I establish myself on righteousness—right standing in conformity with your will and order. I am far even from the thought of oppression or destruction, for I fear not. I am far from terror, for it shall not come near me. Father, you have thoughts and plans for my welfare and peace. My mind has stayed on you for I stop allowing myself to be agitated and disturbed and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled. In the name of Jesus, I loose my mind from wrong thought patterns. I tear down strongholds that have protected bad prescription about myself. I submit to you father, and resist fear, discouragement, self pity and depression. I will not give place to the devil by harboring resentment and holding onto anger. I surround

myself with song and praise of deliverance from depression, and I will continue to be an over-comer by the word of my testimony and the blood of the lamb. Father, I thank you that I have been given a spirit of power and of love and of calm and well balanced mind. I have discipline and self control; I have the mind of Christ and hold the thoughts, feeling, and purpose of his heart. I have fresh mental and spiritual attitude for I am constantly renewed in the spirit of my mind with your word father. Therefore, I brace up and reinvigorate and cut through and make firm and straight paths for my feet safe and upright and happy paths that go in the right direction. I rise from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept me. I rise to new life; I shine and am radiant with the glory of the Lord. Thank you Father in Jesus name that I am set free from every evil work. I praise you that the joy of the Lord is my strength and stronghold. Hallelujah Amen. RUBELLA This is an acute viral infection in children and adults characterized by rash, fever and lymphadenopathy. It is highly contagious and can cause spontaneous abortion, stillbirth or congenital defects if the disease. The disease closely resembles that of a mild attack of measles (Rubeola) and the distinction between them was first made in Germany, hence the name German measles. The Rubella virus is a togavirus, which does not require a vector for transmission. The virus is composed of an inner icosahedral capsid of RNA and protein that is surrounded by a lipid-containing envelope with glycoprotein spikes. Only one serotype has been identified for this virus. Rubella is no longer considered endemic in the United States, however globally it still remains a challenge. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 57% of countries included the Rubella vaccine in their regular vaccination program, but it continues to be problematic in many areas of the world. The virus is spread through droplets in respiratory secretions and infects the respiratory tract and then the blood stream. The incubation period for Rubella is 14 to 21 days, but because of the non-specific signs it is very difficult to diagnose. Many children will only manifest this disease by the presentation of a rash. Older patients may present with low-grade fever, ocular pain, sore throat, and suboccipital adenopathy. Patients with this exanthem are generally infectious from 5 days before the appearance of the rash until 5 days after the rash. Rubella infection can be acquired postnatally as well as congenitally. When acquired after birth it usually results in an extremely mild or subclinical form of the illness. Adults may

have a more severe form with fever, malaise and anorexia. The most predominant symptom of postnatally acquired rubella is posterior auricular, cervical and suboccipital lymphadenopathy, fever and a rash. The rash begins on the face and spreads downwards on the body. The rash is a macculopapular but not confluent and generally followed by mild coryza and conjunctivitis, which lasts between 3 to 5 days. Forscheimer spots, which appear on the soft palate may be present, but are not specific for this disease. Complications of postnatally acquired rubella are uncommon and usually include bacterial superinfection. Other more noteworthy complications occur in women and are generally arthritis, occurring in the fingers, wrist and/or knees. It develops with the rash and may take several weeks to resolve. Postnatal rubella may also result in hemorrhage due to thrombocytopenia and vascular damage. This can result in bleeding in organs such as the eyes and the brain. Rubella encephalitis is also another complication of rubella that may be seen in both children and adults. Congenital rubella occurs when there is maternal infection during pregnancy. If it had not been for the teratogenic effects of rubella, this disease would be of little clinical significance. The signs of congenital rubella include cataracts, heart disease, deafness, autism degenerative brain disease, mental retardation, microcephaly, seizures thyroid problems and spastic diplegia. Maternal infection in the first trimester lead to fetal infection in 50% of the cases and in the third trimester results in infection in approximately one-third of the cases. Infection in the first trimester results in more severe problems and can result in total deafness in the child. Rubella generally presents as a mild disease and because many cases are subclinical, it is very difficult to make an accurate diagnosis. In addition, there are other disease states such as taxoplasmosis, modified measles, roseola, Erythema infectiosum and enteroviral infections that have the same presentation as the rubella syndrome. Isolation of the virus from throat cultures, urine and other secretions is very difficult and costly Information for this article was obtained from: Harrison’s Principle of Internal Medicine, Lange 2009 Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy and Lange Current Diagnosis and Treatment Pediatrics through droplets in respiratory secretions and infects the respiratory tract and then the blood stream.
