Isaiah 53 and the
Passion of Jesus
I want to give you the background in the Bible to show you the significance of ‘The Passion of The Christ’. And this is from the New and Old Testament. First of all, the Bible records that when Jesus had risen from the dead, He met some disciples on the road to Emmaus, and I want to show that Scripture to you of what He had to say. He said to them, “Oh, foolish ones and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken.” And then He went on to say, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me” (Luke 24:13-35). You’re supposed to believe all that was written in the Prophets, Moses, the Psalms. Now, I understand there are as many as 300 different prophetic Scriptures that point to Jesus, and it is a mathematical impossibility for one

person to fulfill that many prophecies. It is beyond comprehension, but there are that many. But Jesus says you have to believe all that the prophets have written or spoken. And He said, “Fools and slow of heart to believe,” because they were debating among themselves. “How could it be? We saw Him dead. We knew He was dead. How come? What is it?” And He said, “Don’t you understand that the Bible says that the Christ must suffer these things and then enter into His Glory.” Now I want to take you to the book of the Prophet Isaiah, chapter 52, verse 14, which was written, give or take, 700 years before Christ: “Just as many as were astonished at You, so His visage was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of man.” Another way of looking at what Isaiah had to say is basically that He did not
look human. He had been beaten so badly. Now, the Bible says He had no form or comeliness that we should desire Him. His visage was so marred that He did not look like one of the people of men. When you see the movie The Passion of The Christ, you see an individual who is beaten beyond recognition. His face is swollen. His body is bleeding. He’s cut all over. His back is ripped. It is a horrible sacrifice. Now, Isaiah goes on to say, in the 53rd chapter, these words: “But He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Now, the idea is it is our iniquities; ours. “He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace, and by His stripes we are healed.” So, it is iniquities, it is peace, it is healing. And when Jesus was beaten, those stripes that He received were for the healing of our iniquities. Now, let’s take a look at this as we continue on in Isaiah chapter 53: “We have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord has laid on Him the inequity of us all. He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth. He was lead as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep before it’s shearers, silent, so He opened not His mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living for the transgressions of my people. He was stricken, and they made His grave with the wicked and with the rich at His death, because He had done no
violence, nor was any deceit found in His mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He put Him to grief. And when you make His soul an offering for sin, you shall see His seed. He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.”
“A sinless one would come. The sins of all of us - our iniquities, our sicknesses, and our diseases were laid on Him.” “They made His grave with the wicked, with the rich at His death, He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.” So, basically what it says is, He was sinless, and yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise Him. And that’s what happened. Our sins did it. He was sinless, but it pleased the Lord to bruise Him, because He died for our sins. The suffering of Jesus Christ was foretold by Isaiah the prophet. A sinless one would come. He would be beaten beyond recognition. But the sins of all of us - our iniquities, our sicknesses, and our diseases were laid on Him, and it pleased Jehovah God to bruise Him. It wasn’t the Jews. It wasn’t the Romans. It wasn’t anybody. It was God Himself that brought this about. Why? So that you and I could know salvation.

Christians reaching neighbours in India and beyond

Recently, 31 medical missions were held, touching 6,383 lives. Over 1,480 people were provided with antiparasite medicines; 361 were given cataract surgery; two had cleft palate surgery; 450 pairs of glasses were distributed; and 16 wheelchairs were given to the needy.

WEST AFRICA
The prayer centres in Nigeria and Ghana responded to 13,674 calls, emails, letters, and text messages. As a result, 770 people prayed to accept Christ. Also, CBN staff drilled fresh water wells in four rural communities in Ghana, benefiting 4,260 people. Over 1,300 prayed to receive salvation.
Superbook is changing the lives of children all over the world.
By Christopher Gammill CBN Director of International Operations A foggy morning greeted me here in India, but the light of the Gospel shines brightly through CBN’s outreaches. Audiences watch us on TV, interact with us on Facebook, text prayer requests, call our prayer line to find a church, and receive encouragement from our e-newsletter. Superbook fever is spreading to India, too. Schools and churches are packed with children glued to episodes on the big screen, as excitement builds for our broadcast launch. But what I love most about our global work, and why I came to work at CBN, is that it is filled with local Christians reaching their neighbours with the Gospel. National staff are equipped to lead CBN’s efforts and share God’s Word. They know the culture, speak the
language, and understand the needs. It’s Indians reaching India. It’s locally produced content, broadcast in Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, and Bengali.
And we’re doing the same thing in Africa, Latin America, and beyond. Your gifts and prayers make it all possible, may God bless you!

Nowhere Else to Turn No choice but to drink dirty water
Every time Mrs. Kim handed her grandchildren a drink of water, she was terrified it would make them ill. “My grandchildren suffered with pain because of the water,” she said. “I have nowhere else to get it.” Sadly, her only water supply was a muddy pond. Mrs. Kim cared for her grandchildren while their parents worked long hours
in a distant garment factory. So twice a day, she walked over a mile to fetch the contaminated water. And then, thanks to caring partners, CBN’s team drilled a well in her Cambodian village. They now have safe, clean water! Mrs. Kim says, “My family will not get sick anymore… Thank you, CBN!”

Story of Love Jesus’ love is extravagant and does not hold back. He gave up His life so that we might live in fullness and peace with God. The Power
and the Glory Raising someone to life - now that’s power! Have you ever paused to think about how that power resides in you?
Consider the day when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. He arrived after Lazarus had died and was met first by Martha and then Mary. Both sisters acknowledged that had Jesus been there, He could have healed Lazarus, and their brother would not have died.
That same Spirit is alive in us. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, our sins have been paid in full and we are in perfect relationship with our heavenly Father. We can pray with authority, where we know His will and we speak in accordance with that will.
How does Jesus respond? He doesn’t become defensive or start to argue. He doesn’t really respond to the accusations at all. Instead, He just says, Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory of God? (John 11:40).
As we speak, it becomes real. This is how we need to pray. Not prayers of wishing and wondering, but of believing and knowing.
This is the transcendent reality, the glory of God trumps everything on earth! It has power over death, over sin, over sickness and disease, over our finances, and over every human need. Then, Jesus begins to pray, ... Father, I thank You that You have heard me. ...You always hear Me (John 11:4142). Jesus knew He had been heard because His relationship with His Father was perfect. Then what does He say? Does He beg God to bring Lazarus back? No. Jesus simply says these amazing words: Lazarus, come forth! (see verse 43). It’s a shout from His innermost being, confident in the power of God. And Lazarus comes forth. Death had lost its grip.
If we are practicing the presence of God, sure of His great love for us, then we can have confidence in prayer.
“This is how we need to pray. Not prayers of wishing and wondering , but of believing and knowing.” When we remember that Jesus paid the entire price to bring us into a perfect relationship with God, we can pray from a place of authority. Then, we have access into the heavenlies to both know His will and proclaim it, and to see the miraculous.

Worthy is the Lamb Thank you for the cross Lord. Thank You for the price you paid, bearing all my sin and shame, in love You came and gave amazing grace. Thank you for this life Lord. Thank you for Your nail pierced hands. Wash me in Your cleansing flow, now all I know, your forgiveness and embrace. Worthy is the lamb. Every time I hear this well known song, my focus is taken to Jesus, back to a place of gratitude for what He did 2000 years ago. It makes me swell within, being filled again with God’s love, so much so I have to stop in my tracks to give thanks to Him. Before I became a Christian I wasn’t looking for Jesus, He came to me and met me where I was by revealing His love for me. 1 John 4 v 10 says, ‘This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” Jesus love was so great He was willing to die so that I would know true love, be made whole, be set free from the past and my sins forgiven. As we approach Easter we have the opportunity to be reminded of God’s love for us, what He went through on our behalf and why. Ephesians 3 v 17 - 18 says, “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” This is God’s desire; for us to know His love and to have a deep intimate relationship with us. Jesus paid the

price for us to have this relationship. What a privilege! Have you ever been in love? When we love someone we will go to great lengths to show our love for them. Motivated by love, we sacrifice much, often not counting or even noticing the cost for the good of the loved one. 1 John 4 also says, “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.” Since I became a Christian I have not been perfect but I have worked hard at showing love. I have loved undeterred at times because the love I received that day I want others to know and experience, because there is nothing like it. Matt 4 v 44 says, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” This Easter, lets re-receive God’s love for us. Let’s continually keep on being filled that we might pour God’s love out on those around us. It will cost, it cost Jesus. For Jesus the cost was worth it, for...‘Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s live for one’s friend’.
