News Article

Horan returns to Deeside The Nomads are pleased to announce the signing of experienced defender George Horan. 32-year-old Horan returns to the Deeside Stadium having left in 2005 to join Rhyl where he played until 2010 before moving on to Chester FC where he was the club captain, making 138 appearances for the newly formed club following the demise of Chester City. Horan played over 140 games for The Nomads in his first spell with the club which spanned five years starting in 2000. Following his departure to Rhyl in 2005, Horan was named in the Welsh Premier League team of the season for four consecutive seasons from 2006 to 2009. Horan joins The Nomads on a two year contract and Director of Football Mark McGregor was very pleased with the signing, saying: “I am delighted to have George on board - he will add a great leadership quality to our defence. Everybody knows his qualities and he has been Chester’s rock for the last four years and he will prove a huge hit here as well.”

A view from the stand

Hello and Welcome to Deeside where Europe is the word, after playing Dinamo Bucharest we now welcome Bulgaria’s Ludogorets Razgrad . This afternoon is another great opportunity for us to show our squad coming together and hopefully form into a force to be reckoned with for the coming Welsh Premier Campaign. With the work being done behind the scenes and on the pitch, not to mention today’s opponents being our guests, Nomads name should be an often spoken one across the country You have seen him on Wednesday against Dinamo but a mention must go to our marquee signing of the summer George Horan, who hardly needs an introduction. Former Nomad and Ex Chester captain Horan is a signing that has seen other clubs inside the league and out sit up and take notice. At the back George will have huge influence, however he is just one of our latest signings on view today. The arrival of Stuart Rainford gives us a boost upfront following Michael Hayes departure, along with Jay Colbeck from Wrexham to add to the striking force. The intention of these signings and of course today’s fixture is the obvious ambition of Nomads to get into European competition. We’re not saying it will happen overnight, but with the gelling of a squad mixed with youth and experience we hope to push all teams in the league for that lucrative position of 6th place or above for the first phase of the season. Our fixtures are out, offering the opening fixture of a Friday night away at Bastion Gardens against Prestatyn. This is mouth watering for many Nomads who have been there before, as we always put on a strong performance, indeed being some what of a bogey team for Prestatyn last season, who will be strengthening their squad also after their 11th placed finish. Our 10th place finish in the league was disappointing for us all last season, but the structure of relegation undermined our effort as we secured a finish above the drop zone on the final day of the season. If recognition for that wasn’t achieved, lets hope tonight does as Nomads welcome Ludogorets Razgrad. With Razgrad our guests, sit back and enjoy the fine European quality on offer today but also keep an eye on a Nomads squad forming in its pre season. Make sure you return here very soon for more friendlies against the likes of Tranmere and Celtic Nation.

The Nomads v PFC Ludogorets Razgrad

Ludogorets Razgrad’s Club History

PFC Ludogorets is the successor of the Ludogorets Association for physical education and sports, created in 1945. By 2010 the team has never been playing in Bulgaria‘s A PFG, yet, the town has traditions of preparing professional football players, and Ludogorets has been passionately supported by the public.

Traditionally, throughout the 56 years of its history, the club has been competing in Second division of the Bulgarian Championship, the most significant achievments being the two matches, trough the years, for entering First division. The turning point in Ludogorets‘s history has been the decision of the Bulgarian industrialists Kiril and Georgi Domuschiev to invest in this town‘s football future. Thanks to their support season 2010/2011 ended with a historical success – the team became champion of Second division, winning the promotion for the A PFG. In 2012 Ludogorets became the total hit of Bulgaria‘s Football Championship winning the historical treble. Now, the name of this team is a synonim for a quickly developing club investing not only in first-class players, but also in the construction of a modern stadium and a training center. Ludogorets‘s ambition is to become the football center of Nord-East Bulgaria, not only promoting football at higher levels, but also creating talents, soon to be the spine of the Bulgarian national football team. According to football sites in Bulgaria, PFC Ludogorets is currently ranked third for number of match spectators. The club is well known for its many, faithful supporters. It‘s what hightens the interest of the sponsors assisting financially the club‘s development. First Title Ludogorets went down in the history of world football after winning three Cups in the very first season of the club in A PFG. The team, leaded by Ivaylo Petev, became an indisputable champion after the deserved win over the record holder of titles – CSKA. The superiority of “the eagles” in the championship was officially admitted with the victory over “the red team” with 1:0 in the 30th final round of season 2011/12. Petev’s boys held the precious Champion’s cup with the self-confidence of being a big team, having finished with a positive result against the four teams from Sofia. Taken alone it is a unique fact since, by now, it hasn’t been achieved by a team that doesn’t come from the capital. A little earlier Ludogorets has won also the Cup of Bulgaria, at the Lazur stadium in Burgas. The team turned the score from 0:1 to 2:1 Loko (Plovdiv), and triumphed with the second more valuable trophy of Bulgarian football. A month and a half later “the eagles” grabbed also the Super Cup, after their success over the same opponent from Plovdiv, only this time – with 3:1. 14 The Nomads v PFC Ludogorets Razgrad

In all 30 First division matches, as well as the rest for the Cup of Bulgaria and the Super Cup, Ludogorets has demonstrated perseverance and not once has it broke the offensive style of playing, which in the last years was a rare thing to see on the Bulgarian pitches. This created the image of a fighter, recognized by everybody. Second Title Ludogorets literally regularize his position in the last XXX round of News’s 7 football championship. The championship had a dramatic end in favor of “the Eagles”, confirming even more that Ludogorets deserves the most the gold medals. During the whole season Ivaylo Petev’s boys were way better than their opponents. The team finished with a positive balance from the games against the leading teams. Ludogorets in Europe The fantastic performance of Ludogorets in the 2013 UEFA tournaments was marked by several records. In their former four participations in the current format of the UEFA Europa League Levski Sofia and CSKA Sofia finished in last place in their groups. This season the “Eagles” not only improved the national image but did it in a quite impressive way – they won their group in the company of PSV, Chornomorets Odessa and Dinamo Zagreb with five wins and one draw. The year was marked by several records for the history: • First win of a Bulgarian side in the Netherlands in a UEFA tournament - 2:0 over PSV; • First win of a Bulgarian side in Croatia in a UEFA tournament – 2:1 over Dinamo Zagreb; • Most wins of a Bulgarian club in one season in the UEFA tournaments – 8; • Most away wins of a Bulgarian club in one season in the UEFA tournaments – 4; • The first Bulgarian team not defeated during the group stage of the UEFA tournaments; • The first Bulgarian team to win a group of a UEFA tournament; • Biggest away win over a former European club champions – 2:0 over PSV; • Stoycho Stoev – the coach with most wins in one season of the UEFA tournaments – 8; • Equaled record of Levski Sofia for most games played in the UEFA tournaments in one season – 14 (match 13 and 14 to be played against Lazio); • For the very first time ever a player of a Bulgarian club was included in the best 11 of a UEFA tournament – the goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov;

Welsh Premier League Quick news from the rest of the league Lilywhites add two more to the squad Sriker Aaron Bowen from Evo Stick North outfit Warrington Town and young Prestatyn Town midfielder Rob Hughes have joined the flurry of new arrivals at Rhyl recently. Steelmen’s defender Green joins the Martyrs Recently appointed Merthyr Town boss Steve Jenkins has secured the signature of experienced defender Ryan Green from Port Talbot Town. TNS fined £5,000 for Bangor incidents A charge against The New Saints has been found proven by a disciplinary panel of the FAW. A supporter or supporters were found guilty of throwing flares/smoke bombs on the pitch during a Welsh Premier League match against Bangor City played at Nantport on 18 April 2014. As a result, the panel decided that the Club be fined £5,000, some £4,000 of which is to remain suspended until the end of the 2014/15 season. Airbus snatch Belfast draw as Aber hit for six Airbus UK Broughton and Aberystwyth Town had differing fortunes in Saturday’s warm-up games for the Europa League. The Wingmakers drew 3-3 with Irish fellow qualifiers Crusaders, but the Seasiders crashed 6-3 at home at the hands of The New Saints. Welsh League AGM rejects FAW relegation plan Promotion and relegation within the Welsh League is still in the melting pot after the annual general meeting rejected plans that would have seen four clubs drop out of Division One. The move, to accommodate Afan Lido, who have been relegated from the Welsh Premier League, would have seen Cwmbran Celtic, who finished above the three-club relegation zone, drop into Division 2. Other clubs affected include AFC Ammanford, who despite finishing 13th in Welsh League Division Two, would drop into the third division.
