UNBEATEN LEAGUE STREAK AT STAKE AS COFIS COME TO DEESIDE Connah’s Quay Nomads will be looking to keep our domestic unbeaten streak in tact this Tuesday night as we welcome Caernarfon Town to Deeside Stadium. Due to the tight nature of the top half of the table, results over the weekend saw us fall from second to fourth thanks to victories for TNS and Bala, and Caernarfon who sit just behind us in fifth position, were afforded the weekend off due to our Scottish Challenge Cup fixture, meaning their last game was over 10 days ago. Our last encounter with Sean Eardley’s side saw a battle at The Oval end in a 0-0 draw, while our last encounter here at Deeside ended in a 6-2 victory back in February. Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said “Caernarfon have progressed from last season - having kept their group together in the summer and added real quality, it’s no surprise the start they have had to this year’s campaign. I don’t think any other team in the league could have three key players missing and still beat TNS as they did in their last outing, so we are well aware what a good outfit this Caernarfon squad are. Having made the playoffs last season, I’m sure they will be expecting European football next season.”

2-0 PARTICK THISTLE
CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS
JAGS BEAT NOMADS IN TUNNOCKS CARAMEL WAFER CUP Connah’s Quay Nomads bowed out of the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup on Saturday afternoon after a 2-0 defeat to Partick Thistle. A 33rd minute Raffa De Vita goal sent the hosts ahead, with a further 76th minute strike from James Penrice proving enough to knock Nomads out of the Scottish competition. The tie was the Nomads’ reward for their third round win over Cove Rangers in September, whilst bottom of the Championship Partick Thistle had beaten Montrose 2-0 to set up the all-Celtic clash. Andy Morrison’s side came into the game in strong from, remaining undefeated in all competitions, having most recently come back from 0-1 down to win 2-1 at Carmarthen in the JD Cymru Premier. Meanwhile, Partick Thistle had lost 1-0 to Queen of the South to continue their stuttering start to the season. Connah’s Quay made only one change to their line up against Carmarthen, with Declan Poole replacing Jamie Insall who started on the bench. Poole joined Michael Wilde and Michael Bakare as part of the Nomads’ attacking line up, whilst captain George Horan started alongside the likes of Danny Holmes and John Disney in defence. Partick Thistle also named a strong line up, including veteran forward Kenny Miller, and former TNS man Steven Saunders. The Nomads started the game brightly, nearly taking the lead in only the 2nd minute, when Michael Wilde beat keeper Scott Fox in the air and off his line, but had his subsequent 12 yard shot towards the open goal cleared by a chasing defender. Encouraged by this early warning shot, Connah’s Quay kept their discipline

and targeted the Partick Thistle end with set pieces, whilst Priestley Farquharson was proving highly effective in defence, keeping out runs from the likes of Osman Kakay. In the 12th minute, Partick Thistle had a shot on goal through a 12 yard Joe Cardle volley which was well caught by Nomads’ keeper Lewis Brass. At the other end in the 18th minute, Wilde again went close after a long throw in into the Partick area from Farquharson. He received the ball near the six yard box, but was tackled as he looked to strike at close range. In the 22nd, ex-Rangers and Celtic man Miller showed his attacking pedigree, forcing Brass to push a bullet header of his wide. The next ten minutes saw the game settle, with both sides looking to find a breakthrough but without creating any major chances. However, the opener came in the 33rd, when a quick piece of play from Partick saw Ryan Williamson cross to Italian De Vita, who converted a header to give his side a 1-0 lead. Nomads looked to retaliate quickly, with John Disney being blocked with a shot from 23 yards in the 35th minute, followed by a Michael Bakare effort from the edge of the area floating out for a goal kick. On 39 minutes, Miller again threatened with a half volley from around 20 yards, but Brass dealt with it by pushing the ball out for a corner. Nomads came out for the second half knowing they remained well in the game amid their search for an equaliser. They hit the Partick half quickly, winning a throw in which was headed wide by Wilde in the 46th. With the likes of Bakare and Poole running down their respective wings, Andy Morrison elected to boost his attacking line by introducing Jamie Insall in place of Jay Owen as the hour mark approached. On 62 minutes, Miller continued to be frustrated by keeper Brass, who rushed off his line to sweep the ball away from the striker, who had nearly went clear in front of the Nomads goal. Two minutes later the Nomads went close to equalising when a Callum Roberts cross went close to Wilde in the Partick six yard box, but the ball was cleared out for a corner. The corner gave them an even bigger chance, as Bakare’s delivery was headed by George Horan who saw his close range effort cleared off the goal line at the last second. In the 68th, Kenny Miller again went close to scoring, getting on the end of a cutting move from his side, but shooting over from around eight yards. The Nomads went into the final 20 minutes of play still battling the Jags for an equaliser, but in the 76th, the home side went 2-0 up thanks to a James Penrice finish from close range. The goal gave Partick a strong lead as the game approached its latter stage, but the Nomads continued to look for opportunities to get back into the encounter, with a good turn and strike from Insall going just wide from eight yards in the 79th. The final 10 minutes saw Sameron Dool and Kris Owens come on in place of John Disney and Callum Roberts respectively, but the young Nomads’ efforts to launch a late comeback were undone by the hosts, who focused on holding onto the possession for the remainder of the game. Full time confirmed Nomads’ Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Cup exit, and their first loss in 13 games in all competitions. Connah's Quay Nomads vs Caernarfon Town 7

BAKARE DOUBLE AT CARMARTHEN SEES NOMADS STAY UNBEATEN
1-2
Connah’s Quay Nomads came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at Carmarthen Town in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday afternoon.
CARMARTHEN TOWN
CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS
An 11th minute Liam Thomas goal sent Carmarthen ahead, but Michael Bakare scored in the 24th and 63rd minutes to send Nomads to second in the league and maintain their unbeaten record in the season so far. Whilst a win for Nomads would send them to 2nd in the table, Carmarthen found themselves bottom of the JD Cymru Premier, and were looking to climb out of it having already drawn 0-0 with Nomads at Deeside in August. Andy Morrison named only one change to his side, with John Disney returning to replace the injured Danny Harrison. Carmarthen meanwhile started household names including Liam Thomas, Greg Walters, and keeper Lee Idzi. The afternoon marked coach Danny Thomas’ first match in charge of the Old Gold due to the temporary absence of manager Neil Smothers. Nomads started the affair brightly, with Michael Bakare going on a run down the left wing in the 2nd minute to send a cross over the Carmarthen goal. In the fifth, they went close when a Callum Morris cross trickled past the goal line, with Jamie Insall nearly getting a shot away from six yards moments later. There was more action in the Old Gold’s final third on six minutes, when an alleged push in the area on Michael Bakare saw Nomads raise a penalty claim, but it was waved away by referee David Morgan who also booked Andy Morrison for his protests.
8 Connah's Quay Nomads vs Caernarfon Town
Despite Nomads’ strong start, it was Carmarthen who opened the scoring with one of their first chances of the game on 11 minutes. Greg Walters went on a run into the midfield, and sent a through ball to striker Liam Thomas who followed it with a low finish to score from around 10 yards out. Nomads looked for a reply to Carmarthen’s against the run of play goal, and eventually found it after winning a series of set pieces in their half. From a Jay Owen free kick 25 yards out, Bakare got the ball and burst into the area from the left wing before firing a powerful shot past Idzi from eight yards out to make it 1-1. As the game approached the 30 minute mark it was wide open, with both sides creating chances regularly. Carmarthen got themselves back into the Nomads’ final third, with both substitute Declan Carroll and Lee Surman having chances on goal in the 28th and 34th minutes respectively. In the 35th, Carmarthen looked to have taken the lead again, when Luke Bowen found Lewis Brass off his line and sent a lobbed effort over him and towards an open goal. But Callum Morris rushed back to volley the ball off the goal line in an impressive piece of play that won applause from all spectators. As half time neared, Nomads shifted back into the host’s half, winning two free kicks which were dealt with by Carmarthen. Inside an additional three minutes of injury time, Priestley Farquharson went on a bursting run into the midfield, but was tackled just before he reached the area. The second half started with Nomads on the front foot, as the likes of Jay Owen and Priestley Farquharson pushed them upfield to win set pieces in the Carmarthen half. Although Connah’s Quay were beginning to control the possession, Carmarthen remained capable of retaliating with dangerous chances. This was seen in the 54th, when Luke Bowen nearly broke into the area to strike, but Lewis Brass rushed off his line to make a brave clearance header against the rising boot of Bowen. Nomads then made their first change of the game, with Jay Owen coming off in place of Nathan Woolfe who immediately had an effect on the wing, with his pacy runs winning deep throw ins inside the Carmarthen final third. On 63 minutes, Woolfe was again threatening, and sent a well taken cross into the area and to Bakare, who took a touch to control it and then struck low near the right post to send Nomads 2-1 ahead. Three minutes later, George Horan had the ball in the net from another Nathan Woolfe cross, but this time he was ruled out for offside. Carmarthen were urgent in their search for an equaliser, with Josh Bull getting in front of goal but sending it wide as the game approached its final 20 minutes. In the 75th, Bull was again looking dangerous in the Nomads’ area, but his effort went wide of Lewis Brass’ goal. Andy Morrison’s second substitution saw Declan Poole come on in place of Jamie Insall as the Nomads fought to close what had been an open encounter as the game approached the 80th minute. There was end to end action in the closing stage, with Nomads winning deep throw ins and corners, and Carmarthen seeking to counter those set pieces. They came closest in the 89th minute, but were denied thanks to some committed defending from Callum Roberts who headed away a cross and blocked a Josh Bull effort. Nomads’ final substitution saw Kris Owens come on in place of Michael Bakare, whose impressive brace, after three minutes’ of injury time, was enough to give Nomads all three JD Cymru Premier points.
