A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR Hello all and Merry Christmas as we play our final home game of the year – what a 12 months it has been for the club, and I’m pleased to say it’s been our most successful year ever despite the challenges of 2020. It started with us pushing for the league title, culminating in that 1-0 win over TNS in February, which proved a crucial win for our first ever JD Cymru Premier Championship – although we didn’t know it at the time! After a good few attempts, we also finally got our hands on the Nathaniel MG Cup with a 3-0 win over STM Sports. Then the lockdown came, but we emerged from it as Champions and with our maiden Champions League qualifier to play against Sarajevo, before nearly taking Dinamo Tbilsi to extra time in the Europa League. Now, we remain serious contenders on all fronts, and that’s truly because of our team spirit and togetherness, on and off the pitch. It sounds a cliché, but we have a fantastic amount of people here at Connah’s Quay Nomads who work tirelessly to bring us more success, and I hope everyone, from players to staff, volunteers and fans, can look back at 2020 and be proud of themselves and the club. The hard work goes on today – a warm welcome to Christian Edwards and his players and staff after their journey up to Deeside.

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Cardiff Met
FINAL HOME MATCH OF 2020 Saturday afternoon sees The Nomads host Cardiff Met in our final home match of 2020. The match sees the two sides meet for the second time this campaign with The Nomads recording a late 2-1 victory at Cyncoed back in early October. Met’s form The Archers have lost their last two matches, falling to defeats against both Penybont and Bala Town in the last seven days. Prior to that, they drew with Bala and picked up wins against both Newtown and Flint, so will be looking to get back to winning ways at Deeside. Previous encounters The Nomads’ record against Cardiff Met at Deeside Stadium in the league is a fantastic one, having won four and drawn two of the six encounters since Met joined the top flight of Welsh football. The last time Met came here in the league was a 1-1 draw back at the start of the 2019/20 season, however Met have picked up two victories in Cup competitions at Deeside Stadium, so Andy Morrison will be under no illusion as to just how tough of a task Saturday’s game will be. From the gaffer Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison spoke to give his thoughts; “We’ve got a terrific record against them in the league, home and away - it’s remarkable the points we’ve taken but we’ve slipped up a couple of times in the Cup - looking back at those games in the Cup, I would snap your hand off tomorrow for the same performance, the same domination, the possession we had, the chances we created, the corsses into the box, the shots on target - we dominated both games that we lost, but we lost them. I’m mindful that they’ve managed to just start getting a few players back because I think it’s something reflective of the season and I think Barry have been the same - terrible, terrible injury lists right from the start and Christian was managing with one hand tied behind his back early on in the season because he had 7-10 players who you recognised not available to him - they’re gradually coming back in now and we know what a tough game it will be...” Connah's Quay Nomads vs Cardiff Met

EDWARDS AND WILDE RETURN TO HAUNT TNS AT DEESIDE Connah’s Quay Nomads defeated title rivals The New Saints by two goals to nil on Saturday evening in the JD Cymru Premier. Two goals in the second half were enough to see Nomads go level on points with the league leaders. • Dean Ebbe went close for TNS early on • Nomads’ keeper Ollie Byrne put on great performance • Aeron Edwards broke the deadlock against his former side • Michael Wilde headed in via Paul Harrison to secure big win for Nomads In the 1st minute, Dean Ebbe went close to an instant opener for TNS when he broke through on goal only to be denied by Nomads ‘keeper Ollie Byrne from around eight yards with a fantastic low save. Nomads quickly responded, with a Danny Davies cross in the 7th minute being headed goalwards by Wilde, with veteran Saints ‘keeper Paul Harrison holding the effort. Two minutes later, Wilde was again threatening for Nomads as he headed a corner ball from Declan Poole close to goal, but TNS managed to clear the danger. After 10 minutes it was clear both sides had an attacking game plan, with TNS winning a couple of free kicks inside the Nomads half in quick succession. The second set piece for TNS on 15 minutes fell to Ebbe after being initially cleared out of the Nomads area, but he followed up to 6

curl a half volley wide. A minute later the action was back in the TNS end, as Danny Davies was denied by Paul Harrison from around 20 yards before Craig Curran sent a bicycle kick effort wide from close range. In the 23rd minute the game’s end-toend feel meant Byrne was called into action again, as he made a low save to stop Louis Robles converting a square ball just six yards from the goal. After half an hour played, both Nomads and TNS had created chances from free play in addition to going close with set pieces. In the 33rd, Wilde looked to have finally broken the deadlock when he headed an Aron Williams ball in at point-blanc range, but referee Iwan Griffith ruled it out for a handball from Wilde, for which he was booked. Despite the game playing out as an excellent advert for the JD Cymru Premier, the game was still goalless as half time approached. Aron Williams and Declan Poole chased down balls in the TNS half to create more chances, but half time saw both sides go in level. The second half restarted with an early Nomads chance, as Craig Curran cut down the left wing to cross to Aron Williams who won a corner with a headed effort in the 47th. Two consecutive corners followed for Connah’s Quay, but TNS were able to do enough to keep them out, although the Nomads’ attacks kept coming. And in the 58th, they finally broke the deadlock via Aeron Edwards, who headed in an excellent Williams cross to beat keeper Harrison from just inside the six yard box. TNS looked to respond to Nomads’ opener and won a free kick near the Nomads’ right corner flag, but Redmond’s delivery was dealt with by ‘keeper Byrne who enjoyed a great individual performance on the night. On 63 minutes, Connah’s Quay doubled their lead as another ex-TNS man, Michael Wilde, after another assisted cross from Aron Williams. Rising up from seven yards out, he sent a well-placed header in off a combination of the post and Palu Harrison to double The Nomads’ advantage. With 20 minutes left Nomads were in control with their 2-0 lead, and did well to restrict TNS’ campaign to mount a late comeback. With two assists already, Williams went for goal in the 71st, shooting from 18 yards out after a corner kick taken by Poole, sending the ball just wide. Danny Davies was meanwhile scaling the length of the pitch on the wing to stop a run from Redmond, with TNS then introducing golden boot holder Greg Draper for the final stage of the game. Draper did get involved in the 84th, receiving the ball from around 15 yards out after a breaking run from fellow substitute Cieslewicz, but his shot was collected by Byrne. The remaining minutes were well managed by a composed Connah’s Quay side, whose 2-0 victory sends them joint on points with TNS who stay top of the league via difference. A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall
Hello and welcome to a view from the stand as we get stuck into this year’s festive fixtures, which are of course like none we’ve ever had before. It’s a shame we can’t welcome our fans to Deeside at this time, but I think we might’ve made up for this with an early Christmas present last week. It was of course, our 2-0 win over The New Saints live on Sgorio, which is surely one of our best performances of the season so far. It was a display of Connah’s Quay Nomads at their best – causing problems for the opposition, staying solid at the back, and showing the quality to finish upfront. Perhaps it was already meant to be that the opening goal would go to Aeron Edwards – a TNS star prior to his move to Deeside this summer - who showed just how important of a signing he’s been for us. The second, although officially an own goal, was clinched by Michael Wilde, who despite his veteran status showed he’s still as good as anyone in the box to clinch our second. As Andy Morrison said in his post-match interview, the result only means three points, and we must now move on as we look to extend our six-game winning run. That means facing up to today’s challenge against an always challenging Cardiff Met. It was in one of our last games before lockdown that Cardiff recorded their first ever win at Deeside, in the quarter finals of the JD Welsh Cup. Luckily for us and cruelly for them, the semi-finals would never be played – but they showed that day they have what it takes to grind out a result here and will be targeting the same result today. After today, it’s the Boxing Day derby against Flint at the Essity Stadium, and it got a whole lot more interesting last week as they’ve appointed ex-Nomads coach and Prestatyn stalwart Neil Gibson as manager. Flint find themselves fighting relegation but have a stellar squad of players, and if anyone can turn things around for them, it’s Gibbo. Having spent time with and against Andy Morrison on the touchline, it’s sure to be an entertaining one which could well have taken in a huge crowd in normal times – fingers crossed for a derby with fans as soon as possible. Score Prediction: Nomads 2-1 Cardiff Met FC Player of the Week: Aron Williams Aron showed why he earned his move back to Connah’s Quay live in front of the Sgorio cameras against TNS with a phenomenal performance, assisting both goals with his perfectly weighted crosses, which caused problems for them all day long. His delivery isn’t his only attribute either, as he was stripping the TNS defence for pace with some storming runs down the wing, and showed relentless energy and fight in doing so. We can’t wait to see more of him today! 8
