A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR Hello and welcome to our digital programme for this afternoon’s game against Haverfordwest County. Welcome to Wayne Jones and his team after their long journey up, as we prepare to go head to head with the in-form Bluebirds. They’ve beaten Bala and TNS so far this season, which is something we now share in common after our latest midweek game on Tuesday. Going to Bala away is one of the toughest challenges you get at this level, so it was fantastic to see us run out 3-1 winners, even after conceding first – as ever, this team knows how to find a way to win. The result extended our unbeaten run to 12 games, with 10 points taken from our four games since the resumption of the league so far. Today marks our last home game of phase one, which we end on the road against Newtown on Good Friday. Although we’re already qualified for the top six, we can only take things one game at a time, and I suppose the cliché of each game being a cup final rings true for Nomads. Here’s hoping for another result that adds to our emphatic home record over the past few years! This time last year, we were of course heading for lockdown and there was no knowing when we would return. Since then, we’ve won the league, played in the Champions League and are still top of the table, which is a major achievement considering all that’s happened to the world in the past 12 months. Hopefully the time will come when we can properly celebrate with the fans, but until then I hope you enjoy keeping up with the game remotely and while staying safe. Come on Nomads!

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Haverfordwest County
Nomads welcome high-flying Bluebirds to Deeside Saturday afternoon will see Connah’s Quay Nomads face Haverfordwest County at Deeside Stadium in the JD Cymru Premier. Form Guide Both sides will come into the game with great confidence as both sides in fine recent form. The Nomads are unbeaten in 12 games, a run stretching back to the 0-0 draw at Barry Town back in mid-October - since then, The Nomads have gone on to win a further 10 and drawn just one game which sees us currently sit on 51 points after 20 games. Haverfordwest come into the game on the back of two successive wins including a televised 2-1 victory over The New Saints and a 1-0 victory over Cardiff Met, currently sitting sixth in the table in the battle for the top six ahead of Phase Two. Previous encounters In the last seven encounters at Deeside Stadium between the two sides, The Nomads have not lost, picking up three victories and four draws, dating back to February 2005. Our last defeat at home to Haverfordwest came in August 2003 in the shape of a 1-0 defeat. Our most recent home match with the team from south Wales was back in September 2015 - a game in which goals from Les Davies and Ashley Ruane game The Nomads a 2-1 win - our first of that campaign. From the gaffer Ahead of The Nomads’ fifth game in two weeks, Manager Andy Morrison commented; ”Everyone is looking forward to Saturday’s game and the challenge a very good Haverfordwest side will bring. Having beaten TNS and Bala this season, we know we will have to be at the top of our game to get the result we need. With Jamie Insall returning from suspension and Aeron Edwards close to full fitness, we are gradually getting closer to a full squad to select from. We then have a 14 day break after Saturday before we finish the first phase against Newtown where we will be looking to have our full squad to select from going forwards.” Connah's Quay Nomads vs Haverfordwest County

NOMADS BEAT BALA IN TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH Connah’s Quay Nomads defeated Bala Town by three goals to one on Tuesday evening in a highly anticipated JD Cymru Premier clash at Maes Tegid. The game was billed as a top of the table clash, and a crucial one for Nomads who were looking to extend their three point lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier table. It followed their hard fought goalless draw at Penybont on Saturday afternoon, which extended their unbeaten run to eleven games, while hosts Bala hadn’t lost in 14 consecutive fixtures. Andy Morrison made only two changes to his side, introducing Neil Danns and Aron Williams back into the starting line up in place of Craig Curran and Johnny Hunt, who started on the bench. His counterpart Colin Caton meanwhile started the likes of Chris Venables and Ollie Shannon as well as ex-Nomads Sean Smith and Jonny Spittle in defence. The game got off to the worst possible start for Nomads, as after just one minute of play, a surging move from the midfield saw Raul Correia fire home to stun Nomads early on. But Bala’s lead would only last a matter of minutes, as Aron Williams sent a corner ball in which was flicked on by Wilde, with Horan getting just enough contact on it to claim the goal and bring the game level. Nomads had bounced back and proceeded to take up lots of possession in the Bala half, where they were winning a series of set pieces. This was seen through Danny Davies and Declan Poole who were both winning free kicks on the wings, and swinging threatening balls in to keep the 6

pressure on the Lakesiders. And their efforts nearly paid off, when on 20 minutes a Danny Davies free kick only seven yards from the Bala area took a deflection, and had to be pushed over the crossbar by the fingertips of keeper Alex Ramsay. After another free kick from the left wing via Davies, Bala launched a counter in the 26th, but this was thwarted by a Declan Poole challenge for which he saw a yellow card. With 30 minutes gone, Nomads were continuing to target the Bala end and dealing with Bala’s staggered counter attacking moves. One of the host’s best chances came in the 38th, when leading league goalscorer Chris Venables took control of the ball just outside the box, but had his shot blocked. Connah’s Quay maintained their tempo for the remainder of the half, but couldn’t find the lead before the half time whistle and prepared for another battling 45 minutes to come. The second half resumed where it had left off, as Bala and Nomads locked horns again quickly. The first chance after the interval came in the 51st, when Wilde was denied his 200th league goal by Ramsey, who pushed his header from six yards away. Danny Davies was also back in the thick of the action, having attempts in the 53rd and 58th, but both went wide despite his threatening runs causing problems for the Bala defenders. After the hour mark, Andy Morrison made a double substitution, bringing off Neil Danns and Aron Williams in place of Craig Curran and Sameron Dool. Then in the 65th, referee Tom Owen pointed to the spot after Wilde was brought down in the Bala area. Regular penalty taker Callum Morris stepped up, and made no mistake with a powerful drive into the left of the goal to give Nomads a 2-1 lead. Connah’s Quay were now in front, but were soon dealing with another challenge as Dool went down injured after a clash with a Bala defender only 10 minutes after his introduction. He tried to continue after treatment, but was forced off with injury, leading to Andy Morrison handing recent signing Doug Tharme his debut. Defender Tharme was soon involved, as Nomads looked to shutdown Bala’s push for an equaliser as the game entered its latter stages. In the 77th, they won a free kick in a dangerous position in the final third, but this was cleared away by John Disney. On 80 minutes, Ollie Shannon set up a shot on the edge of the Nomads’ area, but Danny Harrison made a vital tackle to stop him and earned a yellow card. The resulting free kick hit the wall, with Nomads doing enough to clear the danger as the game entered its final five minutes of play. In the 85th, Craig Curran went on a run and won a free kick when he was fouled by Jonny Spittle, who was booked by referee Tom Owen. This free kick would prove fruitful for Connah’s Quay, as a pin point delivery from John Disney was headed down into the Bala goalmouth by Wilde, allowing Craig Curran to slide the ball in and make it 3-1 to Nomads late on. Bala were then dealt a further blow, as they were reduced to ten men when Jonny Spittle was shown a second yellow for a foul on the halfway line. With a commanding lead and one-man advantage, Andy Morrison made his fourth change of the evening which brought another debut, this time for Tom Moore who replaced Danny Harrison in injury time. Full time sealed an impressive win for Nomads, who remain top of the league after ending Bala Town’s 14 game unbeaten run. Connah's Quay Nomads vs Haverfordwest County

NOMADS DRAW WITH LAKESIDERS IN CLASH AT BALA
0-0
JD Cymru Premier Saturday 13th March 2021 SDM Glass Stadium, Bridgend, Wales
NOMADS TAKE A POINT FROM PENYBONT Connah’s Quay Nomads drew 0-0 with Penybont on Saturday afternoon in a JD Cymru Premier clash at the SDM Glass Stadium. Nomads came into the game chasing a number of milestones, with Michael Wilde looking for his 200th goal in the Welsh top-flight, having scored his 199th against Flint Town United in a 1-0 win on Tuesday evening. They were also edging closer to a new club record winning streak, as the derby victory had matched their best ever-winning streak of nine games. Andy Morrison, who spent the game in the stands due to suspension, started a side with only one change as he handed recent signing Johnny Hunt his first start in place of Neil Danns. Penybont manager Rhys Griffiths meanwhile started ex-Bala goalkeeper Ashley Morris, with Lewis Clutton and Billy Borge part of the host’s front line. The visiting Nomads started the game well in the blustery conditions, and were soon winning set pieces in key areas of the Penybont half. In the 5th minute, a Danny Holmes throw in was sent out for a corner, which Johnny Hunt took, with the wind helping the ball swing out for a goal kick. In the 9th, Holmes again delivered with a free kick floated into the Penybont area, but it was able to bounce out of play safely for the hosts, who were focused on keeping Nomads at bay. With 20 minutes played, Nomads were on top and enjoying the lion’s share of possession, with the likes of George Horan and Danny Harrison sweeping away Penybont’s rare counter-attack attempts. On 25 minutes Horan went close at the Penybont end, rising high to head in a cross from Hunt, only to narrowly miss his chance to connect for a header. 8
Connah's Quay Nomads vs Haverfordwest County
Two minutes later Nomads had one of their best chances of the afternoon, when Michael Wilde headed a Declan Poole cross at close range, only to see keeper Morris push the ball away at the last second to deny him the opener. With half an hour played, Connah’s Quay were creating chances frequently with good runs from the likes of Danny Davies and Declan Poole, who were helping force a number of corner balls to put the pressure on Penybont. In the 38th, Hunt took a corner and then received the ball around 15 yards from the goal, and had his shot blocked by the committed Penybont defence. Penybont did have a chance right before the interval when Lewis Clutton went through on goal in the 44th, but sent his shot from 12 yards out way wide. Nomads then hit back in the final minute of the first half, whipping a ball into the Penybont area which Horan headed just over the crossbar. During half time, Andy Morrison made his first change, bringing on Aron Williams in place of Danny Davies as Nomads looked to break the deadlock following the interval. They started the second half well, and were soon back in the home side’s final third pushing for an opener, targeting the Penybont goalmouth with set pieces such as Williams’ long throw in on 48 minutes. Michael Wilde then challenged for the ball inside the host’s six yard box, and clashed with Billy Borge as he looked to send a header goalwards from just a few yards out, with Penybont winning a free kick to cancel out the chance. The hour mark arrived and there had been little change at the SDM Glass Stadium, with the Nomads on top and still chasing the elusive opening goal whilst goalkeeper Ollie Byrne remained untested. With 25 minutes remaining, Nomads made a double sub, bringing on Neil Danns and Sameron Dool in place of Danny Harrison and Craig Curran. The two introductions quickly got involved with driving the ball into the Penybont final third, but the stalemate continued as the game approached its latter stages. There was a Nomads chance in the 73rd, when sustained pressure on the Nomads goal saw Horan go clear from around 12 yards, but his strike hit the side netting. In the 76th, the ball remained in the Penybont end and Holmes stepped up to have a long range shot from 25 yards which went over for a goal kick. In the final 10 minutes, both sides were looking for a goal to seal a last-gasp result, with Nomads continuing to dominate the possession. In the 85th, George Horan and Neil Danns combined inside a packed Penybont area, with keeper Morris collecting before they could get a clear shot away. Horan then went agonisingly close to a late winner in the 86th, flicking a corner ball onto the Penybont crossbar with keeper Morris able to collect the rebound. Four minutes of additional time were indicated at the end of the game, and Nomads used these to keep the pressure firmly on Penybont. However, following a 92nd minute corner ball which went out for a goal kick, they were forced to settle with a point. The 0-0 draw kept The Nomads top of the JD Cymru Premier and following TNS’ late kick-off defeat at Haverfordwest, The Nomads opened up a three point gap at the top of the table, and extended their unbeaten run to 11 games. A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall
Hello and welcome to a view from the stand where we’re ready for yet another tough JD Cymru Premier fixture. As we knew, the schedule for March has been packed, with today marking our fifth game since the 6th March. But we’ve stood up to the challenge well, staying undefeated throughout with wins over Newtown and Flint as well as a goalless draw at Penybont on Saturday. But it was Tuesday’s game at Bala which was our most impressive so far, which saw us end their 14game unbeaten run. Maes Tegid is a notoriously difficult place to go, and the last thing you want to do there is go behind – but that’s exactly what happened when they hit us with an early goal on 44 seconds. Some teams’ head would drop, but not Nomads – we went on to quickly equalise and stay on top for the rest of the game, running out deserved 3-1 winners. So we’ve beaten TNS, we’ve beaten Bala – but so have today’s opponents. Haverfordwest have had a solid season so far, and with Wayne Jones’ side closing in on top six qualification we can expect a battle today. It was also great to see them secure the signing of Jazz Richards, Wales international and part of the Euro 2016 squad. One of the league’s best selling points is some of the talent it attracts, especially some household names known from the likes the of the Football League. In normal times, you could today pay less than a tenner to see both Richards and our own Neil Danns in the same game, and hopefully those days will be back soon. We continue to await further Government guidance on when we can welcome fans back, and will update our website and social channels accordingly. After today, we only have one more scheduled game, the last of phase one – a trip to Latham Park to face Newtown on Good Friday. It’s another difficult place to go, but one that holds good memories for us of late as we won both the JD Welsh Cup and Nathaniel MG Cup there. As for our phase two fixtures, these will be finalised following the completion of phase one, and we’ll publish these as soon as the league confirms them. Lets hope we can take our unbeaten run well into phase two! Score Prediction: Nomads 1-0 Haverfordwest County Player of the Week: Michael Wilde Michael Wilde is looking for his 200th JD Cymru Premier goal today, and so nearly clinched it at Bala, as he helped create two of our three goals – they may well have crossed the line anyway, but you can’t blame George Horan and Craig Curran for making sure! A player that’s won everything you can in Welsh Football, he’s still putting in quality performances week in week out, and is rightly recognised as one of the best goalscorers in the league.

REFLECTIONS
David Rapson looks back at the previous league games between Nomads and Haverfordwest County As this is only The Bluebirds’ second visit to the Deeside Stadium since September 2009, supporters may be surprised to learn that today’s game is the 34th between our two clubs in the JD Cymru Premier League. Nomads suffered a heavy loss at the Bridge Meadow at the beginning of the national league in September 1992, exacting revenge in the final game of the campaign by winning 2-0 at the Halfway Ground thanks to a brace from Dave O’Gorman. Those goals took his tally to an impressive 25 league goals in 25 appearances in that inaugural season. At the end of the 1993/94 season Haverfordwest County opted out of the league having sold their Bridge Meadow ground for development. The club re-joined the Welsh League (South) and after twice finishing as runners-up won the title in 1997 and regained their place in the top division. For the next thirteen seasons our two sides met regularly with shared success, particularly so as nine meetings ended all square. Nonetheless, the first time we met in 1997/98 Nomads registered a 5-2 win although two of those five goals were scored in the last ten minutes after the game had been finely balanced. That Nomads gained all three points was largely based upon a Jamie Hughes hat-trick. Paul Burrows’ 11th goal of the season gave County a 2-1 victory in the return game at their new stadium. A 74th minute Andy Jones goal was enough to give County the points in March 1999 but in the return fixture, just seven days later, it was Nomads who gained the spoils, winning 3-1 – both sides scoring inside the first twelve minutes (Craig Hutchinson for Connah’s Quay with Richard Evans equalising) before second-half goals from Chris Davies and Steve Futcher settled the matter. Thereafter, Nomads were victors only once in seven meetings on Deeside despite three consecutive wins in South Wales, yet for the first eight seasons we opposed one another County never finished higher in the league.
That statistic changed in 2003/04 when Haverfordwest reached the heights of third place, losing only four of their 32 league games. Nomads, on the other hand, had to settle for eighth place but laid claim to one of those four defeats that County suffered when Tommy Mutton scored twice inside five minutes to ensure Nomads won 2-1 in the away encounter. That was our third consecutive victory on County’s home turf following a 3-0 win in February 2002 and a 3-1 success exactly twelve months later which allowed Nomads to claim their first league ‘double’ over the Bluebirds. Both fixtures were drawn in 2004/05, the only time that has happened to date. While the game at the New Bridge Meadow was goalless, the return match witnessed an exciting conclusion. Nicky Palmer had given County the lead shortly after half-time and Richard Adams doubled that advantage in the 68th minute. Mutton found the net eight minutes later, but it was Stuart Rain who salvaged the point for us two minutes from time. On six occasions Nomads have failed to win either game in a season yet County have yet to win both fixtures. They almost achieved that in 2005/06 for, having won 2-0 in 12 Connah's Quay Nomads vs Haverfordwest County

the opening game of the campaign, an early goal from Lee Hudgell in the return fixture on Deeside was not cancelled out until the second half when Conall Murtagh struck one of his three goals for Nomads that year. Connah’s Quay played all home fixtures at Flint’s ground in 2006/07 while the Deeside Stadium pitch was re-laid following attention to the drainage system. The two games with County were completely different to one another with the teams battling out a goalless draw in August 2006 and Nomads winning 5-3 in the return fixture at Flint a little over four months later! Approaching half-time Nomads led 4-0 after early strikes from Marc Limbert, Chris Williams, Adam Dickinson and Williams again. That man Hudgell netted what was surely a consolation goal before the interval but when Tim Hicks scored soon after the break the tide turned. County continued to create chances and it was no surprise when Jack Christopher made it 4-3 in the 74th minute. Only when centre-half Chris Williams completed an unexpected hat-trick with an 88th minute penalty did the smiles return to Deeside faces. Nomads’ manager Neville Powell left to return to Bangor City in 2007 having guided the club through fourteen seasons. Jim Hackett took over the job of keeping Nomads in the Premier League which he achieved despite a huge turnover of playing staff. Two wins and two draws in the first four matches of 2007/08 soon proved to be a ‘false dawn’ as Haverfordwest County trounced us 6-2 in the fifth game of the season. Lee Hudgell and Nicky Woodrow each bagged a pair in that game while Nomads earned a creditable 1-1 draw in the return on Deeside when County netted a late equaliser. Nomads ‘missed the cut’ when the league was reduced from 18 teams to 12 at the end of the 2009/10 season while County lasted for just a season longer before relegation and a further four-year stint in the Welsh League (South). They returned to the top-flight for 2015/16 but won only five games and lost twice to Nomads in the course of a miserable campaign. Haverfordwest County has come back stronger this time as last week’s victory over The New Saints proved. A summary of our league meetings since 1992 is appended below. P
