A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR Welcome all to our programme in this new mobile format, which we hope you can enjoy as you get ready to watch this game on Sgorio. I’ve said it before, but a massive thanks must go out to all of the Sgorio staff for helping broadcast these games while fans remain at home for now. Tonight’s game needs no introduction really, as everyone knows what we and Nomads are about, and that’s winning things and going for titles. Indeed, this game will be key part of the title race, and although we’ve faced injury issues, Andy Morrison and his staff have excelled in keeping us in it, having won our past five now. Welcome also to TNS’ officials, coaching staff, and players tonight – in these COVID-times, it’s not just a matter of turning up, as all players must be registered and temperature tested before entry to the ground. I’m glad to say all of our visiting teams have been great with our safety system for entering to Deeside, which is brilliant to see as we can only get through this season by working together. Enjoy the game all and let’s hope for an early Christmas present by the end of tonight’s games!

TELEVISED CLASH FOR TOP TWO Saturday afternoon sees The Nomads host TNS in a top of the table clash, live on Sgorio. The match sees the tops two teams in the league meet for the second time in the campaign with the opportunity for The Nomads to draw level with TNS on points. TNS’ form The team from Oswestry have been in fine form this season and are yet to taste defeat, having win all but two of their fixtures so far, winning their last four following a 1-1 draw with Bala Town back in early November. Previous encounters The Nomads have an outstanding record at Deeside Stadium, having not lost in the league on home ground since March 2019 in a similarly televised match with TNS. The match marks only one of three victories for TNS at Deeside in their past 10 attemps, with The Nomads coming out on top on five occassions and drawing the other two. The most recent meeting came in February 2020, a game which was won by a solitary Craig Curran goal which proved to be a huge result in decided the fate of the JD Cymru Premier title for the 2019/20 season. From the gaffer Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said; “... games are won and lost in the boxes and they’re the key areas and they were sharper on the one moment at their place and we missed 3, 4, 5 good opportunities to ask questions of the ‘keeper and we didn’t take them and the game finishes with them winning. We’ve been very good at home for a long period now we’ve beat TNS on many, many, many occassions at home so we’re looking forward to it - is it the be all and end all, no it’s not because the season will be 32 games - we’ll be playing them again home and away and then that top six gets very, very tasty...”

NOMADS DRAW WITH LAKESIDERS IN CLASH AT BALA

JD Cymru Premier Friday 4th December 2020 Park Avenue, Aberystwyth, Wales
Davies (22’) Wilde (81’, 83’)
WILDE HITS 70 GOALS AS NOMADS WIN AT ABER Connah’s Quay Nomads won 3-1 away at Aberystwyth Town in the JD Cymru Premier on Friday evening. A Danny Davies opener was cancelled out by a Steven Hewitt penalty, but a Michael Wilde brace to take him past 70 career goals for Nomads settled the affair for Connah’s Quay. • Danny Davies continued great form with opener • Steven Hewitt penalty levelled the scores in the second half • Aberystwyth reduced to ten men as Owain Jones saw red • Wilde scores brace to surpass 70 goals and seal victory The game was Nomads’ third JD Cymru Premier fixture in just six days, and they came into it in strong form after hard fought wins over Barry Town and Flint Town United 3-1 and 2-1 respectively. The hosting Aberystwyth meanwhile sat ninth in the table and were looking to bounce back from two successive defeats having most recently lost out 2-0 to Haverfordwest on Tuesday evening. Andy Morrison made three changes to his side, with Callum Roberts returning from suspension to replace George Horan who started on the bench. Sameron Dool and Craig Curran also found their way back into the starting XI in place of Danny Harrison and Jay Owen. Aberystwyth’s Gavin Allen meanwhile started a number of well-known names for the Seasiders including Jon Foligno, Jack Rimmer and ex Llandudno and Bangor man Marc Williams as captain. 6
Connah's Quay Nomads vs Flint Town United
The game started with a free kick for Aberystwyth, but Nomads soon replied with a corner kick which Wilde won and then headed towards goal only to be denied by Roberts who tipped his effort over the bar. Nomads kept the pressure on, with Aeron Edwards just missing out on a Craig Curran cross into the Aberystwyth area as the visitors pushed for an open goal. But in the 22nd minute, Danny Davies added to his tally of two assists and one goal in his previous two games to break the deadlock for Nomads. Receiving the ball on the left wing, he showed great skill to flick the ball in the air and break away from his man to slot low into the bottom right corner from the edge of the Aberystwyth box. With half an hour played the Nomads were 0-1 up and pushing for a second before the interval with Dool denied by keeper Connor Roberts with Wilde’s efforts blocked by a packed Aberystwyth area. Before half time, Aeron Edwards had a header from a Nomads corner but sent it over leaving his side to go in at half time with their 1-0 win intact. At half time, Andy Morrison made his first substitution with a substitution as Brayden Shaw was brought on in place of Callum Roberts. But the restart saw Aberystwyth level the score after just nine minutes, when Callum Morris was booked for a foul in the area on Steff Davies, leading the referee to point to the spot with Steven Hewitt scoring the result penalty. As Nomads braced for a battle at Park Avenue, Nomads’ second change saw Craig Curran replaced by Aron Williams as the hour mark approached. Two minutes later, Aberystwyth were reduced to ten men as Owain Jones was shown a red card - he brought down Declan Poole on the edge of the host’s area and seemingly said something to referee Dean John which resulted in a straight red card. Looking to take advantage against the Seasider’ ten men, Shaw sent a cross just across the face of goal with Aron Williams almost getting on the end as he looked to regain the lead for Nomads before club captain George Horan replaced Farquharson. And it was Horan who helped conjure Nomads’ second, as he headed low in the Aber area in the 81st minute only to see his effort saved, with Michael Wilde making no mistake in the follow up to make it 2-1 from close range and score his 70th goal in all competitions for Nomads. With Nomads back in front but Aberystwyth still in the game, the closing minutes looked set to be a tight affair, but Wilde quickly sealed the victory just two minutes later with a well taken strike from an Aron Williams cross. The victory saw Nomads extend their winning run to five consecutive games having taken nine points from their past three games across just six days. Connah's Quay Nomads vs Flint Town United

A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall
Hello and welcome to what is surely one of the biggest games of the season as we once again go head to head with The New Saints FC, and happily it’s live on S4C Sgorio for everyone to follow from home. We beat our rivals to the title last season, but they come to Deeside in great form at the top of the league, with ourselves just behind them with five wins in our last five. We’ve been here before though, and we’ll be ready to take it to them with Andy Morrison’s side incredibly hard to beat at Deeside. As we’ve established ourselves as a top team, the games against TNS come thick and fast, be it in the league, cup or league cup. It’s worth remembering there was a time where this game would be billed as any other in the league schedule – with the bookies’ odds heavily in TNS’ favour. These days, it’s usually the most anticipated clash of phases one and two, with the games so often decided by a fine margin. Our last meeting demonstrated this perfectly, as we put on one of our best ever performances against TNS only to be beaten 1-0 at Park Hall. Despite all the injury problems we’ve had, we’re looking a fine match for them today, especially after showing great mettle to come back from 0-1 down against Aberystwyth last Friday night, and who else but Michael Wilde to seal it after Danny Davies’ sublime opener. Next week we’ve got Cardiff Met at home, and then it’s away to Flint on Boxing Day before a New Year’s Day clash at Bala Town. You may also have seen that Nathaniel MG Cup action is getting underway this weekend – as the champions, we come in at round two, so keep an eye out for that draw. Score Prediction: Nomads 1-0 TNS Player of the Week: Michael Wilde A Nomads and TNS legend in his own right, Wildey hit yet another milestone last week by surpassing 70 career goals for Nomads. He’ll go down as one of the best we’ve had, and his medals with both clubs over the years prove it – as well as any Chester fan you speak to! He’ll as ever be a huge threat tonight.
