FINAL HOME GAME SEES SECOND FACE THIRD AT DEESIDE Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United
The Nomads' final home game of the 2018/19 campaign sees the visit of third placed Barry Town United this afternoon. Both sides come in to the game knowing that UEFA Europa League football is guaranteed for the 2019/20 season and that both sides are set in both second and third place respectively (unless Barry can overturn a +39 goal difference in the remaining two games!). The Nomads come into the game on the back of a fantastic 4-1 victory away at Bala Town while Barry will also be full of energy having defeated Caernarfon Town 4-0 to secure their first European place under the club's new guise. Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said "Our last game at home this season will see us come up against European qualifiers, Barry Town United. A huge congratulations to Gavin, Richie and all the players who have had a fantastic season and rightly will be representing Wales along with ourselves and TNS next season. The league table doesn't lie and the three outstanding teams this season are clear in the table. After rewriting history books and smashing all previous records in last week's win over Bala, our aim is to amass as many points as we can. With two league games and a Cup Final to finish, all the squad want to be playing and selection will be pleasantly difficul as every player has played a huge part in our amazing success this season. With it being our last home game, I'd like to pay tribute to our loyal supporters - we have seen an increase this season, especially away from home and I can assure them that their voices and support is greatly appreciated by everyone

Hat trick hero Woolfe returns in win at Bala A hat trick from returning loanee Nathan Woolfe helped Connah's Quay Nomads to a 4-1 win over Bala Town on Friday evening in the JD Welsh Premier League. He first scored in the sixth minute, with a Bala equaliser in the 17th minute being undone by Woolfe's further strikes in the 27th and 47th. Adam Barton scored the fourth in the 86th minute. • Nomads put on excellent attacking display • Woolfe scores two in the first half to put Nomads in control • Woolfe completes hat trick and Adam Barton opens Nomads account • Jamie Insall makes Nomads debut against 10 men Bala The game got off to an ideal start for Nomads, who won a corner after two minutes and threatened with runs from Woolfe and Wignall on the left and right wings respectively. They went ahead after just six minutes, when after a Danny Holmes long throw in was flicked on with a header from Wilde, allowing Woolfe to finish from close range. Boosted by their lead, Nomads kept the pressure on the Lakesiders' end, going close in the 9th minute via Horan who headed a Woolfe corner towards goal only to see it saved by goalkeeper Ashley Morris. With 15 minutes played, Nomads were on top and hitting Bala with some well worked waves of attacks, but Henry Jones scored against the run of play to equalise. After a free kick was knocked onto him around eight yards from the Nomads' goal, he shot and was initially blocked by a good save from

Quay keeper Lewis Brass, but followed up to finish from six yards out. Jones remained dangerous on the front foot for the hosts, using his pace on the right wing to get to the Nomads' byline at regular intervals in the first half. In the 23rd minute Nomads had a good chance to restore the lead when a free kick from around 30 yards out was taken by Woolfe, and headed just wide by Disney. But in the 27th, Woolfe stepped up to find Connah's Quay's second with a goal of the month contender, getting on the end of a short Ryan Wignall corner to send a stunning 25 yard out strike past Morris. Bala looked to once again come from behind to find an equaliser, with Henry Jones running to the byline in both the 34th and 36th minutes, but keeper Brass reacted in time to keep him out. As the interval loomed the game was end to end, with John Disney going close when an 18 yard effort saw his shot go on target but get saved by the quick reactions of keeper Morris. In the 42nd minute, confusion reigned as the Nomads had the ball in the net thanks to a George Horan header, with the goal being disallowed for a foul in the area after initially being given. This meant Andy Morrison's side had to settle for a 2-1 lead at half time as they looked to build on a impressive first half performance. The second phase started in similar fashion to the first, with Nathan Woolfe once again getting an early goal. In the 47th minute, from a Danny Holmes throw in, he met an attempted headed clearance with a cool volley struck with his back to the goal, which went past Morris and into the top right corner of the net. Woolfe's hat trick paved the way for Nomads to dominate the second half, managing the game against a Bala side still going for goal at every opportunity. In the 55th, Ryan Wignall beat two defenders before switching the ball between his left and right in front of the Bala goal, but his shot was saved to deny what would've been another great individual goal on the night In the 59th, Nomads again went close to extending their lead when a George Horan diving header went just wide, although his attempt saw the offside flag go up. After the hour mark, Bala hit back with some pressure on the Nomads' end, but assured defending from the likes of George Horan, who repeatedly won headers throughout, kept keeper Brass untested. Not content with three goals, Woolfe continued to search for a fourth in the 70th minute, when he took a corner kick that nearly swung into the host's net if not for a clearance from the Bala stopper. With 15 minutes to play Bala were reduced to 10 men, when Anthony Stephens was shown a second yellow card and dismissed by Tom Williams. Nomads' chances continued to come against a depleted Bala, with a Danny Harrison cross being headed over by Michael Wilde. Inside the final 10 minutes of the match, Ryan Wignall was replaced by Declan Poole, before Dundee United loanee Adam Barton opened his Nomads account with an 86th minute strike. When a free kick sent into the Bala area by Woolfe was flicked on by a Wilde header, Barton sent a sweet volley past Morris and low into the Bala net. Nomads' final move of the night saw Michael Wilde substituted in place of new signing Jamie Insall, who made his club debut and return to football in the closing moments of the game. Nomads lose out in clash with Cofis Connah's Quay Nomads were defeated 1-0 away at Caernarfon Town in the JD Welsh Premier League on Friday evening. Despite the game being full of chances for Nomads, a Gareth Evans goal in the 17th minute was enough to hand the hosts victory at The Oval. • Goalkeeper Lewis Brass made Nomads debut • Gareth Evans' curling effort sent Cofis ahead • Nomads went close to equaliser throughout the game • They stay second in the JD Welsh Premier The first action of the evening came in just the 2nd minute, when a cross into the Caernarfon area went to Andy Owens in front of an open goal, but his header towards the ground bounced and went wide from close range. Caernarfon's Danny Brookwell then threatened in the 5th, going on a run down the left wing to send a 25 yard effort wide of Lewis Brass' goal. After a closely contested opening to the game, Caernarfon won a 16th minute free kick just outside of the centre circle in the Nomads' half, with the set piece helping them take the lead. From the kick they won a throw in deep in the Nomads' half, with Gareth Evans finding the throw in on the right wing to dribble around 20 yards from the Nomads' goal and send a well taken curling effort into the top left corner with 17 minutes played. Nomads looked to reply instantly, creating a chance in the 20th minute, when Bakare connected with a Poole cross to send a low

driving effort towards goal which was saved by goalkeeper Alex Ramsay. Caernarfon then enjoyed a strong period, going close to scoring a second through Darren Thomas in the 24th, who sent a low effort past the left post from 18 yards, and Jamie Breese who went one on one with Brass to be denied by the woodwork on 27 minutes. A minute later Bakare threatened for Nomads when a long Andy Owens throw in fell to him around ten yards from the Cofi's goal, but his effort went over the crossbar. After an Owens free kick close to the Caernarfon area in the 33rd minute went out for a goal kick, Rob Hughes went on a run in the 36th, squaring the ball to the oncoming Adam Barton who had a low shot blocked from 15 yards out. The Nomads were turning on the pressure in their pursuit of an equaliser before half time, with Poole firing wide in the 39th minute, and Michael Bakare taking a throw in and running onto the ball in the same passage of play to also send an effort wide on 42 minutes. Despite creating a number of chances, Nomads went in trailing 1-0 at the interval. During the break, Andy Morrison rung the changes, replacing George Horan and Adam Barton with Callum Morris and Conor Harwood. The first chance of the second half went to Caernarfon, as Darren Thomas, who was regularly looking to test the Nomads' keeper, found himself with space 25 yards from the goal, but shot wide on 53 minutes. Then in the 57th, Jamie Breese again looked to double the hosts' lead when he lifted a shot above the crossbar from 18 yards out. With 30 minutes left to find a result the Nomads began to control the proceedings, going forward at every opportunity with Harwood being just beaten to a low Poole cross by keeper Ramsay in the 64th. Nomads' final change saw Jake Phillips replace Rob Hughes, with the left back utilising his long throw ins to put more pressure on the Cofi's end. In the 73rd minute Harwood did well to dribble past the Caernarfon defence and pass to Andy Owens, but he couldn't connect properly with the ball at a close range from the goal. With 15 minutes to go, the Nomads were playing almost all of their football in the Caernarfon end, but despite efforts from the likes of Poole, Owens, and Bakare, they were yet to find their much sought after leveller. In the 83rd minute Caernarfon attempted to seal victory, with Thomas racing past the Nomads' back line to go clear on goal only to send his effort wide. As the full time whistle beckoned it was last chance saloon for the travelling Nomads, with Bakare going on a run down the left wing to send a cross in, but his delivery went out for a goal kick. Inside an additional three minutes' injury time, the Nomads won two free kicks in dangerous positions near the Cofi's area, but both set pieces hit the Caernarfon wall as the equaliser continued to evade Nomads.

Nomads secure Europe with Cup Final place Connah's Quay Nomads reached the final of the JD Welsh Cup with a 3-0 win over Cardiff Met FC in the semi final on Sunday afternoon. First half goals from Callum Morris and Michael Bakare sent the Nomads ahead, with a second half strike from John Disney securing both a JD Welsh Cup final place and qualification for Europe. • Callum Morris penalty and Bakare strike put Nomads in control • A well worked counter attack saw John Disney get third • Nomads will face The New Saints in JD Welsh Cup final • The cup victory qualifies Nomads for Europe The match, streamed live on Facebook by Sgorio, kicked off with Cardiff Met going at goal first. After winning a throw in and free kick inside in the Nomads; half the first five minutes, Eliot Evans went close in the 8th when he dragged a square ball from Will Evans just past the right post. With 15 minutes played the Nomads had soaked up the early pressure from Cardiff Met, with Michael Bakare threatening in the 16th via a cross close to the goal line before the offside flag went up to halt the chance. There was end to end play in the 19th minute, when a Nomads corner was countered by Cardiff, seeing them rush into Connah's Quay's final third only to have a cross headed away by John Disney. The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute after Andy Owens won a penalty, having been brought down in the Met area by Emlyn Lewis after getting onto the end of a good pass from Rob Hughes. Nomads' nominated spot kick taker Callum Morris stepped up, and

made no mistake to give Andy Morrison's side a 1-0 lead. And seven minutes later they made it 2-0, with Hughes again involved with a slick cross into the Met end which was parried away by Met goalkeeper Will Fuller. But despite his initial save, the ball bounced to Bakare who fired home a half volley from around seven yards out. With 30 minutes played Nomads were in control of the encounter with Cardiff Met still continuing to create opportunities which were dealt with thanks to composed defensive performances from the likes of captain George Horan and Priestley Farquharson. In the 35th minute Adam Roscrow went close to trying to reduce the deficit for his side, but he was stopped by the offside flag. Two minutes later, Rob Hughes tried his luck at goal with a free kick from 25 yards out, and while his effort was on target, it was safely collected by keeper Fuller. In the 42nd minute, Nomads were denied a third when Rob Hughes headed at the Met goal from close range only to see his effort pushed away by Fuller's fingertips. And Hughes' header was the last chance of the half, with Nomads taking a 2-0 lead in at half time knowing they were 45 minutes away from Europe and a place in the prestigious JD Welsh Cup final. The second half got underway with Nomads introducing Declan Poole in place of Callum Morris in a half time substitution. Just five minutes after the restart, Met went close when Eliot Evans got into the Nomads area and sent a low effort towards goal, which John Danby pushed away to see it hit his left post and rebound back to him safely. Met kept the pressure on Nomads after Evans' chance, with Connah's Quay hitting back to score from a well worked counter attack in the 56th minute. After Bakare won possession from Met in his own area, he played the ball to Rob Hughes who raced down the left wing to send a cross to John Disney, who sprinted from the Nomads' end to score with a first time strike from close range. With an hour of the JD Welsh Cup semi final played and the Nomads 3-0 up, they deployed a composed display of game management to consolidate their lead in the remaining 30 minutes. Andy Morrison's second change saw Jay Owen introduced in place of Rob Hughes as Nomads continued to fend off Cardiff Met attacks, with Farquharson making a great tackle to keep them at bay in the 68th minute. And Farquharson was again in action in the 72nd minute, with the young centre half making a vital clearance after a 25 yard free kick was sent into the Nomads' area by Met. There were chances for both sides inside the final 10 minutes, as Michael Bakare had a powerful effort from around 10 yards out saved by Fuller, with Cardiff Met again seeing an effort hit the woodwork as Roscrow headed off the crossbar in the 86th minute. After three additional minutes of injury time, referee Iwan Griffiths signalled for full time to confirm the Nomads' place in the final of the JD Welsh Cup. The victory makes more club history with the Nomads securing back to back JD Welsh Cup finals for the first time ever. And as both they and final opponents The New Saints have already guaranteed a top three finish, it means Nomads will play in Europe next season as the JD Welsh Cup's Europa League place will now go to the third place finishing team in the JD Welsh Premier. A VIEW FROM THE STAND BY WILL CATTERALL
@willcatter Hello and welcome to the final view from the stand of the 2018/19 season. It’s been a long campaign, and yet it’s gone so quickly for all the right reasons. It’s been a luxury, and testament to the quality of this side, that we haven’t had to worry about Europe at all this month. It’s usually crunch time on April afternoons like these, but thanks to the incredible feat of securing our fourth consecutive European qualification in March, we’ve been able to focus solely on finishing as high up the table as possible. Of course our fans wanted to see us lift the title rather than TNS, but we can be proud of a phenomenal season which saw the gap between them and the rest of the league become smaller than ever. Credit for one of the most exciting JD Welsh Premier campaigns in recent memory must also go to Barry Town, who were part of a three horse race for the championship for much of the season. Today, we look to confirm a second place finish in the league, needing one point to do so. Thanks to goal difference, we are highly likely to finish second regardless, but three points is the only focus as we aim to end the home season on a high. The 2018/19 season will go down as yet another history making one under Andy Morrison, and one where we further developed into a major force of Welsh football. The highlights included: • The 1-0 win over TNS in August in front of a 400 strong crowd • Playing – and winning at Hampden Park with a 2-1 comeback against Queens Park • Beating Edinburgh City 5-4 on penalties in the Irn Bru Cup semi final – which saw our all time record attendance of 1068 • Going to Inverness to play in the Irn Bru Cup final – and go so close to lifting the trophy! • Another run to the JD Welsh Cup final as the defending champions And even after all this success, the most pleasing aspect has been the growing number of fans following the side home and away, particularly in a season where we’ve been given a tough set of fixtures for fan travel. Your support has been immense – enjoy today and we’ll see you at TNS, followed by the small matter of the JD Welsh Cup final at Druids on Bank Holiday Sunday 5 May for a 14:45 kick off. Score Prediction: Nomads 2-1 Barry Town United Player of the Week: Nathan Woolfe Who else! The Woolfe returned to the Nomads’ squad with a bang in Bala last Friday, fresh from his loan spell at Huws Gray Alliance champions Airbus UK FC. He pulled off a sensational hat trick to give us the emphatic win at Maes Tegid, and showed the quality those who have been watching him from the start of his Nomads career will be all to familiar with. We look forward to seeing more of his signature runs, perfect crosses and hopefully another hat trick today! 12 Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United

QUEENSFERRY SPORTS TICK THE BOX FOR NOMADS' NEW NIKE DEAL Connah's Quay Nomads are pleased to announce a new two year kit deal with Nike through Queenferry Sports. The new deal will see The Nomads debut a new Nike kit for the 2019/20 season and encompasses the entire club from U8 right the way up to the first team including staff for all matchday kit, training kit and leisure kit. While Macron Store Wrexham have been a fantastic kit supplier for the club for the past few seasons and have always delivered excellent products on time, the club felt it right to return to our roots somewhat and choose Queensferry Sports, who are located just three miles from our home ground and have great historical connections with the club. The Nomads will continue to play in red home kits and black away kits next season and will debut the new kits in the 2019/20 UEFA European fixtures before the start of the Welsh Premier League campaign. Director of Football Jay Catton said; "It's a great deal for all at the club, so the whole club from under 8s all the way to our scholarship programme to our first team will be in Nike through their training wear, for their matchday wear over the next two seasons and we feel as thought it's an absolutely perfect match for where the club's looking to go, the standards we're looking to attain and to have the best manufacturer we can have in Nike." GREEN'S PIECE BY TREVOR GREEN
Good Afternoon, Welcome back to the Deeside Stadium for the final game here of the season, today we welcome Barry Town for a match between the two automatic qualifiers for the 2019 Europa League. With things settled now; we know that Nomads will finish second and Barry third, both clubs have done impressively well and by anyone’s standard have made a real success of the campaign. But...of course we hoped to overcome the New Saints lock on the League title. Nomads did great in Phase Two winning five and drawing one of the eight games so far picking up sixteen points. In any other League that’s title winning form, but in the WPL however, its nowhere near enough. The champions took the title with an unprecedented seven wins and one draw, only today’s visitors have scored against them in that 2-2 draw. They have scored 31 goals in eight games and that against the best other five in the competition. We welcome the Players, Staff, Officers and supporters of Barry Town to Deeside and wish them a safe journey home later this evening. On the Road Barry have won six, drawn three and lost six. On their own patch they have won eleven, drew one and lost three. They have scored 52 and conceded 47. So we end our home campaign with a match against very worthy opposition, but in an encounter that cannot change the final positions in the table, unless they close a plus 39 goal difference in just two games. It’s been a great campaign; we have seen attendances increase and plenty of action to remember. We have won 12, drawn one and lost just two of our League home games. The draw was with today’s opposition and the defeats were to TNS and Caernarfon, both of whom we also beat here. Three opponents were hit for six and we netted forty two times in those fifteen league games in front of our home supporters. In the Cups we had epics with Coleraine and Edinburgh City on our run to the Scottish Challenge Cup Final. Who will forget the invasion from Ulster and then the 1,000 plus crowd to see the Semi final go to penalties which we won in heart stopping fashion. Now it’s on to TNS next Friday night to complete the season. Then we meet them again at Cefn Druids Rock Stadium in the Welsh Cup Final. It’s a 2-45 Kick Off on Sunday 5th May. We know how well TNS are playing , but so are we. They will have to be at the top of their game to take the trophy away from us. We look forward to the level of support we had in Inverness a little closer to home. Are TNS better than Ross County? No they are not. Remember we should have won in the highlands, so we have nothing to fear. What a win at Bala. From the off we penned them back and made chance after chance. To see Woolfie back in the starting eleven was a surprise after his loan at Airbus had concluded. When Michael Bakare called in sick Nathan was given a chance, and didn’t the ever popular winger respond. His Hat Trick saw
16 Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United
three different, but all good goals, the second being a goal of the season contender. In truth we could have scored ten in a great display. It was good to see Adam Barton score and Jamie Insall debut. Our Europa League Fixtures will be played at Rhyl once again. We start off in the Preliminary round this year and we will be seeded. Barry and the WPL play off winners will not be seeded and competition rules mean clubs from the same country can’t be drawn against each other. This means that we have only six possible opponents; we are likely to have one club from Gibraltar, one from Kosovo, one from Northern Ireland, one from San Marino and two from Andorra as possible opposition. It will be the first time in our Europa League history that we are anything other than massive underdogs ,but it doesn’t lessen the challenge as all of them are decent semi pro outfits who have been season long winners to get there. The First legs will be on Thursday 27th June with the second on Thursday July 4th. Lets hope that both Barry and ourselves fight through to the 1st Qualifying round. We look forward to their company at the draws in Geneva on the 11th and the 19th of June . Look out for the announcements of our pre Europe warm up games and although none are secure yet, we are almost ready to announce two to be played nearby, these on June 8th and 15th please keep your eye on our website and the local papers. We thank Referee Rob Jenkins; Assistants Martin Roberts and Gareth Wyn Jones, 4th official Kevin Parry and match delegate Nathan Brearley for their time and experience . Enjoy the Game; Trevor

CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS IN THE CYMRU ALLIANCE 2010-2012 BY DAVID RAPSON After retaining membership of the Welsh Premier League since its inception, The Nomads’ 18-year reign in the competition was brought to end in 2010. A major reshaping at the country’s top level of football resulted in Connah’s Quay being one of six clubs demoted in a plan to reduce the number of teams competing in the WPL from 18 to 12. That Nomads missed keeping their place by just a single point made the pill even harder to swallow. Our first game back in the re-titled Huws Gray Alliance brought Technogroup Welshpool to the Deeside Stadium. Mark McGregor had managed to retain most of the squad that featured in the WPL and brought in a couple of new faces so there was an air of optimism when the new season began, and a 6-0 victory quickly followed by a 3-1 success away to Buckley Town settled any doubts. A Flintshire ‘derby’ win over Flint Town United in front of a bumper crowd kept the momentum going and by the end of September Nomads and Rhyl were at the top of the league and both boasting 100% playing records. Champions of the Welsh Premier League two years earlier and sixth in 2009/2010, the Lilywhites failed to gain the necessary Domestic Licence to retain their place in the top flight. Thus, they found themselves in the Alliance with ourselves and both clubs ready to battle for the one promotion slot. By mid-October Rhyl had dropped to fourth place on the back of two drawn games while Nomads led the pack with six wins from six games. At this stage the challenge was coming from Cefn Druids and Caersws, coincidentally Nomads’ next two opponents. Caersws were swept aside to the tune of 6-2 with Gary O’Toole taking his goal tally to eight as did Mike Hayes a week later when giving us the lead at The Rock. Cefn Druids had already missed gilt-edged opportunities, however, and by the 70th minute had stunned Nomads by netting five goals without further reply to take over pole position in the league table. A second defeat at Rhyl (2-3) three weeks later kept Nomads behind Druids albeit by just a single point with Rhyl joining us on 27 points. It was to be no ‘cakewalk’ to the title for any team. By early January 2011, however, Druids had been left floundering as both Nomads and Rhyl went into overdrive. Connah’s Quay strung together a run of seven straight victories netting 26 goals in the process as O’Toole and Hayes each grabbed a brace of hat-tricks. Michael Hayes netted four goals against Llangefni Town and repeated the feat in the next league game at Rhos Aelwyd’s expense while Gary O’Toole bagged three goals in a win at Porthmadog and did exactly the same six days later as Buckley Town were banished by four goals to one. The away fixture at Belle Vue in March was touted as a ‘title decider’ although Nomads had just suffered a surprise 3-4 home defeat at the hands of reigning champions Llangefni Town to boost Rhyl’s chances. Those chances improved as a former Nomad, Mark Cadwallader scored the only goal in the Clwyd ‘derby’ but successive 4-0 away wins at Rhos Aelwyd and Rhydymwyn ensured Nomads faced their last four games on a par with Rhyl – both sides having 61 points – but with two games in hand. The season reached its climax on April 23rd when Nomads drew 0-0 at home with Cefn Druids and then discovered that Rhyl had lost at Belle Vue to Shaun Beck’s injury-time winner for Flint Town United, 20 Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United
that strike for the Silkmen granting Nomads the title of champions. Sadly, the Club failed to achieve the necessary licence to enable us to return to the Welsh Premier League. It was a crushing disappointment following the events of twelve months earlier but strengthened the resolve of players and staff alike to take the Huws Gray Alliance for a second time. The first two games of the 2011/12 season yielded six points and 15 goals for Nomads as Caersws (6-1) and Penycae (9-1) were brushed aside before Flint Town United came to the Deeside Stadium and caused a major shock by winning 3-0! As it transpired that proved to be a solitary early ‘blip’ and five successive wins followed including an 8-0 trouncing of Llanrhaeadr with O’Toole netting four of those goals. Yet by mid-October Nomads were no higher than fourth in the table and Rhyl, who had scored 43 goals after ten games compared to our 34, were top. Away losses at Porthmadog and Guilsfield were balanced out by several comfortable victories so that by the time we were due to travel to Rhyl on 6th December, the deficit had been cut to a single point, though the Lilywhites remained top with 32 points. Once again we suffered a ‘derby’ defeat at Belle Vue going down to Paul Mooney’s late strike but a Boxing Day win at Flint (2-1) kept Connah’s Quay on track into the New Year. Having netted 37 goals at home and conceded just three, Rhyl fell to a surprise 0-1 loss at home to Llandudno and with Nomads on another roll winning five league games on the trot, it was ‘all change’ at the top. Going into February Connah’s Quay had a five-point advantage over Buckley Town who were followed by Porthmadog and Rhyl, though the latter had three games in hand. Nomads stuttered drawing three consecutive games while Rhyl picked up points and it soon became apparent that the home fixture with our old adversaries at the end of March could well decide where the title was going. Mind you, Buckley Town were by no means out of the equation sitting seven points behind us but with two games in hand and three points ahead of Rhyl as we entered March 2012. March 24th was a day of warm sunshine and the Stadium was a fine setting for such an important game. Rhyl took the early initiative and when Ryan Williams lashed a free-kick past John Rushton on 28 minutes the many Rhyl supporters went wild. Ten minutes later, however, they were stunned by a 40-yard half volley from Ricky Evans that sailed over Louis Mackin, struck the underside of the bar and dropped into the net. With just 15 minutes remaining Gary O’Toole forced Mackin to give away a corner and from Rob Jones’ kick, Danny Forde glanced a header into the far corner to snatch all three points. Nomads now had a 10-point cushion over their challengers and one more victory would secure the title. Cefn Druids were the visitors to the Stadium on April 7th, the very team against whom we had clinched the title twelve months earlier with that goalless draw. This time, however, goals from Gary O’Toole and Rhys Healey ensured that gap Connah’s Quay would become the first team to win the Cymru Alliance in consecutive seasons. Thankfully, the Domestic Licence was successfully obtained and the club went into the final game, at Penycae, ready to celebrate a return to the top flight and a resounding 4-0 victory did just that.

A THANK YOU FROM JOHN GRAY Following his recent induction into The Nomads' Hall of Fame, John Gray wrote an open letter to the staff and fans of Connah's Quay Nomads.
I wish to thank all who voted for me to be honoured in the Club’s Hall of Fame at The Quay 3G Clubhouse on 18th March 2019. The event was a complete surprise to me although my wife Roma had known for some time. My connection and contribution to the Club goes back many years eventually becoming Chairman. A challenging position but I was always hopeful that the Club would be successful. For as long as I can remember it has always been an ambition for the Club to achieve the top prizes, as do all the clubs in the Welsh Premier League. The recent success of the Club is very much down to Club owner Gary Dewhurst, adding Andy Morrison as Manager to the team. He joined the Club in 2015/16 when we were at the bottom of the League so the historic entrance into the Europa League in his first season surprised everyone. Since then the Club has again played in the Europa League in 2016/17, 2017/18 and again qualified this season, not forgetting the first win of The Welsh Cup and Final of The Irn Bru Cup - What a record! The results speak for themselves but Roma and I have witnessed first hand the hard work and dedication that runs throughout the club and the sheer determination to achieve, especially as we have been priviledged to travel with the team for these historic games. At the stadium our volunteers all step up and have worked hard to ensure all goes smoothly especially at our Irn Bru games vs Coleraine and Edinburgh City when the gate broke a record for attendance. The development of the 3G pitch at Connah’s Quay High School and the start of the College Scholars was the vision of our Academy Director Jay Catton. Roma and I worked closely with him 2013/15 resulting in a home for the Club for the Academy through to the First Team and also for the benefit of the School and the wider community. The growth and development of the Club in the past 10 years has slowly laid the foundations for generations to come. I am looking forward to our game today against Barry Town United, the Welsh Cup Final against TNS and of course our Europa League challenge this year. The increasing numbers of supporters at home and away is testimony to the success Andy and his team have achieved. Long may it continue. John Gray Co-Chairman
