EDITOR’S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to another tough game at Deeside Stadium as we welcome Carmarthen Town. Today's match programme owes a big thanks to all of the contributors involved as this was sent to print some five hours following the full time whislte against Rhyl last Sunday due to my own personal holidays, so the tight deadlines I put on Trevor, Will and Dave for their content was a tough one, but one that they stepped up to - much like the first team has done on so many occassions this season! Last weekend's result was a great one and one that gave us a nice buffer above the other teams in third and fourth place, but today I am truly hoping we can make it 10 games in a row unbeaten today. Some research will need doing to find the last time we went so long without a defeat and it's a great run I hope we can continue. Hopefully today we will get the result we deserve. Nomads aim for ten in a row in the league Today's game will see The Noamds aim to make it ten games unbeaten as they take on Carmarthen Town at Deeside Stadium. The Nomads' unbeaten run began with a 0-0 draw against Carmarthen Town at Richmond Park on the opening weekend of the League campaign back in mid-August. Since then, Andy Morrison's side have gone on to only concede three goals in nine games, picking up five victories and four draws in the process. The rich run of form sees The Nomads in second place, eight points behind the also unbeaten TNS who sit top of the league. The Nomads also sit five poitns clear of third-placed Bangor City. Carmarthen currently find themselves ninth in the league having won just two games from their nine so far, however last Sunday, they provided The New Saints with one of their toughest games of the season, losing 2-1 at Park Hall. The last time that the Old Gold visited Deeside Stadium was in a hugely important game as the two sides clashed in the Europa League Playoff Semi-Final, which saw The Nomads win 2-0 thanks to goals from Wes Baynes and Nick Rushton, while Nick's brother Jon saved a penalty in goal for The Nomads. Following today's game, The Nomads will be back in action, yet again here at Deeside Stadium, on Tuesday nigh as we welcome Denbigh Town in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Wilde and Davies help secure win over Rhyl The Nomads retained their undefeated record in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Rhyl on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Les Davies and Michael Wilde were enough to secure victory in front of a crowd of 316 at Deeside. The Nomads went into the game off the back of a draw with Llandudno during the week, with Rhyl looking to extend a run of five games unbeaten, their most recent victory against arch-rivals Bangor City. The game began and it took just 30 seconds for an

incident to occur, when Aaron Simpson made a rash tackle on Tom Field for which he received a yellow card. The Nomads looked to assert some dominance in the early stages, with Les Davies trying to flick a header onto a goal side Matty Williams, before Williams sent a Nathan Woolfe cross just over the Rhyl goal with a header in The Nomads’ first chance of the afternoon. The visiting Rhyl side were eager to continue their good form with Carl Lamb getting in a good position to the right of The Nomads' area only to send a looping header over the goal. Not only did The Nomads have to do battle with Rhyl but also the windy conditions which caused difficulty for both sides. In the 15th minute, Nathan Woolfe sent a cross into the Rhyl area which Davies headed towards goal only for it to be blocked by keeper Owen Evans. The Nomads kept up their pressure on the away goal with Nick Rushton having an effort saved, before Les Davies broke the deadlock for The Nomads in the 19th minute. From a Nathan Woolfe cross, Les Davies struck
the ball well from six yards to send it past Evans and into the bottom left corner, giving The Nomads a deserved lead. Despite going a goal down, Rhyl remained in the game and were dangerous when on the attack, seen when Rob Hughes had an effort from 20 yards which forced Danby to save low to his left. The Nomads were unsuccessful in their pursuit of a second goal before half time, despite having eight to nine players all in the Rhyl half at some stages of play. Les Davies and Nick Rushton both had chances from running at the goal, with the away defence forced to clear the ball away for throw-ins and corners at various intervals. The competitiveness of the game spilled over with an argument between John Danby and Carl Lamb at the end of the first half, with referee Bryn Markham Jones showing both players a yellow card after Lamb caught Danby late. At the start of the second half, The Nomads were dealt a blow when John Disney was forced off with a suspected concussion following a first half clash. Matty Owen came on as his replacement along with Rakim Newton of Rhyl who replaced Toby Jones. As in the first half, The Nomads opened the second with most of the possession as Rhyl searched for their equaliser with Newton of Rhyl sending a cutting shot wide of goal on 49 minutes. With the hour mark approaching, a further Rhyl substitution was made with Carl Lamb making way for Porya Ahmadi. The game started to become more physical, with the resulting free kick from a foul on Tom Field being cleared before Les Davies headed away a Rhyl free kick taken just two yards from The Nomads’ area. John Danby then came off his line to break down a Rhyl attack on the left wing with a sliding tackle which referee Markham-Jones deemed a foul, but not enough to bring a second yellow for the 'keeper. The Nomads made their final substitutions at once, with the duo of Michael Wilde and Lewis Short replacing Nick Rushton and Sean Smith. As the game entered its final 20 minutes, Rhyl began to feel time slipping away from them and forced some good chances. Rob Hughes used his skill and pace to enter the Nomads area before being blocked by Woolfe, before Dan Collins had a cross into the box saved by Danby. In the 74th minute, a Woolfe corner fell to Jay Owen, who played a sublime through ball to Wilde through on goal only for the pass to miss him by a yard in what would have been a clear goalscoring opportunity. Yet Wilde made no mistake in the 82nd minute, when he headed in The Nomads’ second. From a Wes Baynes cross, Wilde rose unchallenged to connect with the ball and send it straight into the bottom right corner of the Rhyl net. The Nomads controlled play for the remainder the game, but in the third minute of injury time their clean sheet came under threat from a Rhyl free kick just outside their area. Rob Hughes stepped up, but ultimately had two unsuccessful efforts from the set piece which were the last action of the day.

BY WILL CATTERALL Good afternoon and welcome to another game at Deeside. We’re now four games into our run of home fixtures, and let’s hope the good form continues against tough opposition in Carmarthen Town today. Last week’s fixture against Rhyl was a real test of our mettle with their form at the moment. For them to come here on a high and us to control them, even with key players out through injury, shows the quality we have here. They have improved massively since last season, and will continue to take points off other sides. Speaking of taking points, we haven’t forgotten our nil-nil draw with today’s visitors at the start of the season. It was quite a game to start the season, with ourselves dominating for most of the game until a red card turned the momentum Carmarthen’s way and we were forced to settle for the draw. In that match, Carmarthen made sure we knew how strong they are physically and how tough they are to break down, the latter being a must-have if you want to survive in this league. We’ll expect to see this again from them today, as they come off the back of a narrow 2-1 defeat to The New Saints. It was great to see a 300+ crowd here on Sunday and we will hopefully see a good gate today with people returning to see if we can make it 10 games undefeated in the league. We’re back in action in on Tuesday when Denbigh Town come here for the Nathaniel MG Cup second round. This match has a history, as we were knocked out of the same competition by Denbigh in the semi finals last year which was one of Welsh football’s biggest giant killings in recent times – and Denbigh will be looking for history to repeat itself next week, so do come on down for some cup action. Nomads Ultras Prediction: The Nomads 3-0 Carmarthen Town Nomads Ultras' Player of the Week: Wes Baynes Since arriving from Colwyn Bay in 2015, Wes has been ever present in the squad and been there in some big moments for the club. He scored the goal that sent us to Europe, and his form has been solid this season with a highlight his free kick goal away at Bangor. We’re sure his quality will be on display again today.

BY TREVOR GREEN Good Afternoon and a warm welcome to Carmarthen Town. We welcome the Old Gold to Deeside once again. Matches with Carmarthen Town are never easy and always involve battling a fit and physical opposition. Mark Aizelwood has marshalled his resources so well over the years and they hover around the sixth place cut off in most seasons. It’s a long and energy-sapping journey that we seem do once annually, but it’s almost a fortnightly routine for them. We will do all we can to make their stay enjoyable in every way except the 90 minutes on the field. We went down there to open the season on August 13th and were very disappointed to come back with a point from a goalless draw. On one of the rare occasions we got our Europa League team onto the field, we hoped for more. We dominated play and missed enough chances to have won several games as the stubborn hosts held out well. Then Ian Kearney was harshly sent off and it was ourselves who put in a “backs to the wall” effort to hold what we had. Today will see similar action - we will have to work very hard for the points. Carmarthen have played nine matches so far in the WPL - at home they have beaten Airbus 2-1, drawn with ourselves and Bangor City (1-1), whilst losing to Llandudno (0-1) and Aberystwyth (0-5). On the road they have won (3-0) at Aberystwyth and drawn at Bala (0-0). Defeats have come at Newtown (4-2) and despite a very creditable show last Sunday at T.N.S. (2-1). We should start to see some of our more experienced players return from injury today, or in the Cup tie on Wednesday night. Michael Wilde and Lewis Short both came on in the Rhyl game, but today they might well be properly match fit. George Horan might be match ready and Michael Pearson is back in training and we could see him in action today or Tuesday. Callum Morris and Chris Rimmer are a few weeks away from returning yet, and, unfortunately, Ian Kearney will be out for some time, we wish him well after his surgery of last week. We have been lucky that the team is so robust and got through games admirably. We have a good bunch and they are well led and backed up. Football is a harsh business - you don’t always get what you deserve, but come May we might look back on September (with its eight

men out injured) as a time when courage kept us up there and gave us the platform to push on. Last week’s excellent win over Rhyl sums things up nicely. John Disney has been absolutely excellent for us so far - when he was concussed and had to leave the field I feared the worst. However, the team dug in, Jay Owen rose to the challenge and Matty Owen performed to the standard that brought him here. Rhyl were a decent side but we remained inventive and motivated. We wanted the win and we took a second goal and all three points. I am really looking forward to having the full side out there, I think we might be very good indeed. Many people have asked me why we are playing on Sunday’s when others have not been forced so rigidly to do so. Well I can only point out that in the WPL we are governed by the League Panel and they set our fixtures and not ourselves. Normally WPL League Rule 20 is applied. (This states: "The Home Club for each fixtures shall have the right to determine whether a weekend fixture is to be played on a Friday evening or a Saturday or Sunday save that all weekday evening fixtures, including Monday and Friday when the distance between the Home Club and the visiting Club is more than 100 miles shall only take place with the consent of both Clubs"). With three clubs installing 3G surfaces during the season this was suspended and clubs were told no changes would be permitted until November. We were given an appalling set of fixtures; • We are the only WPL club not to have been given a 2:30pm Saturday kick off between August and November. • We are the only WPL club to be given SIX consecutive home games. • We are the only WPL club not to have been given a home game at all in the Month of November. We have protested and requested changes, but been refused on all occasions. However, the one that rankles most and shows how unfairly we are treated is the fixture with Bangor City due to be played on Sunday 16th. Both clubs agreed to approach the WPL management for permission to play on either Friday or Saturday (October 14/15). We were shocked to be refused. No changes till November we were told and yet Bala met Bangor City... last Friday. With Druids having played this Friday! Surely you might think the League's interests would be served by assisting a member club to attract a larger crowd, but sadly it seems not. In recent weeks our fixtures have been incorrectly posted by the BBC, and matches have clashed with neighbours Airbus also at home on the same day. To cap it all, our attractive match up with top of the table rivals Llandudno was compromised when the league sanctioned Bala to play their match with TNS next door at Flint, on the same night, and at the same time. In the USA a newly elected Senator was being shown the debating chamber in a welcoming tour by President Teddy Roosevelt. He looked out over the room pointed at the benches opposite and said, “Is that where the enemy sit”. Roosevelt replied, “No lad that’s where the opposition sit, your enemies are sitting behind you”. Today’s refereeing team are Iwan Griffith, David Wright, Phil Roszkowski and Mark Petch. We are grateful for their time and their experience. LEAGUE OF WALES 2003/04 BY DAVID RAPSON Having ended the previous season in a best-ever Welsh Premier League placing of fifth our supporters might have hoped for a decent start to the 2003/4 campaign. Disappointingly, our opening game at the Deeside Stadium, against Porthmadog, ended in a 1-3 defeat with our prolific striker Tommy Mutton finding the net once again as all four goals came in a quarter of an hour. Barry Town’s fall from grace was almost complete but our start to the new term was not helped when the first away game, at Barry, was postponed with the Dragons announcing debts in excess of £900,000. Haverfordwest County recorded a first victory on Deeside (0-1) for ten years before Andy Griffiths’ goal earned the team its first point in a 1-1 draw at Port Talbot where Tommy Mutton received two yellow cards and this after missing a penalty! That game was sandwiched by home defeats in the League Cup to TNS and to Rhyl in the FAW Premier Cup so the visit of Aberystwyth Town on 13th September 2003 was seen as a chance to put those losses behind us. Not so as the Black n’ Greens scored four times without reply leaving the Nomads perilously close to the bottom of the league. It’s that sort of adversity that can bring out the best in players. We still had the nucleus of the side that had done so well during the previous season and in Mutton and Stuart Rain had two strikers of acknowledged pedigree. A first success arrived just a week later when a Gareth Owen goal was all we needed to take the points from Caersws and, as it turned out, that result was just the start of a run that saw us unbeaten in nine league games (five wins, four draws and 22 goals in the bag) up to mid-December. Upon his return to the team following a one-match ban, Tommy Mutton added a late strike to a brace from Rain as Nomads romped home 3-0 against Caernarfon Town while another Owen goal at Belle Vue earned a 1-1 draw at the home of the team that were to become champions that season. Afan Lido were then ‘put to the sword’ to the tune of 4-0 and another quartet of goals at Welshpool Town kept the team upwardly mobile. The Welsh Cup began with a trip to Guilsfield where we had lost on our previous visit but an 8-1 win banished all thoughts of another upset. Stuart Rain had missed the vital kick in a penalty ‘shoot-out’ four years earlier but made amends with a hat-trick this time. That earned 14

us a trip to Anglesey to face an unknown quantity in Bodedern FC but two goals from Tommy Mutton were enough for Nomads to squeeze home 2-1. During the autumn of 2003 Tommy found the net in ten of 11 successive league and cup matches. By early December we had moved into a comfortable mid-table position and welcomed Bangor City to the Stadium – always a clash that produced entertainment of one sort or another. Goalless at half-time the home fans were thrown into raptures when Rain and then Jon Kenworthy scored in a six-minute spell after the interval but as ever the Citizens fought back. Just after the hour mark Les Davies (yes that big fella’ wearing the No.10 shirt for Nomads these days) pulled a goal back, Craig Hutchinson extended the lead and with two minutes remaining Lee Hunt (another adversary of the Nomads) netted to ensure a tight finish but we held on to win 3-2 in front of almost 300 fans. Christmas brought little cheer however when a 1-2 defeat at Newtown was followed by a 1-1 draw away to Porthmadog and a shock 0-1 defeat at home to NEWI Cefn Druids on Boxing Day – a team we had never previously lost to in a dozen league and cup encounters. Osian Jones’ 85th minute strike was enough for the three points to disappear off to Cefn Mawr. The New Year brought sadness with the news that Tommy (T.G.) Jones the famous Everton and Wales centre-half and founder of Connah’s Quay Nomads FC had passed away at the age of 86. Thomas George Jones played 175 games for Everton winning the First Division in 1939 and earning 17 full international caps. He was still playing for the Goodison Park club when forming the Nomads (or Juniors as they were known initially) in 1946. In the Welsh Premier League Nomads defeated Barry Town 4-1 and gained a 2-1 win at Haverfordwest to start 2004 off on the right note. There followed two astonishing matches, at home to Caersws and away to Caernarfon Town a fortnight later, in which 18 goals were scored, both Mutton and Rain grabbed hat-tricks yet we collected just one point! The last day of January was extremely windy enabling Tommy Mutton to score his hat-trick before the break when Nomads, the breeze at their backs, led 3-0. The Bluebirds were quick to swoop back after the break and kicking towards the river Graham Evans scored twice. Nonetheless, despite a buffeting from the wind Andy Hughes kept his goal intact until the 85th minute but strikes from Venables, Lewis and Scott saw us go down 3-5. At the Oval in Caernarfon a fortnight later Stuart Rain scored four times in a 5-5 draw. Nomads never led at any time and were only level for the last eight minutes so it was definitely a point gained. The remainder of the campaign was one of ‘ups and downs’ with the odd victory coming along at just the right time to keep us in mid-table. The Welsh Cup adventure had ended with a 0-1 loss at home to TNS on the weekend between the two high-scoring games mentioned above. A 3-2 home victory over Cwmbran Town on May Day was enough to secure eighth place in the final table, albeit a long way behind champions Rhyl who lost just once all season (away to Haverfordwest County) but still only pipped TNS by a single point. Stuart Rain’s 20 league goals placed him fourth in the list led by Rhyl’s Andy Moran with 27 while Tommy Mutton netted 17 and Gareth Owen a commendable nine from midfield. Mutton’s goal 19 seconds after the start of the last match against Cwmbran was the fastest of the season in the Welsh Premier League.

CARMARTHEN'S HISTORY
THE CLUB was formed in 1948 and admitted to the Carmarthenshire Association Football League. The present ground, Richmond Park, was created in 1952. Election to the Welsh League came in 1953 with the club gaining its first honours in 1959-60 with promotion from Division 2 West to the First Division of the Welsh League. Progress was patchy in the 70's and 80's with intermittent promotion and relegation in the Welsh League Divisions until the 1995-96 season. This was the best season in the club's history with both the Welsh League title and the Cyril Rogers Cup coming to Carmarthen - a notable double. The following season 1996-97 was Carmarthen Town's first in the National League and another milestone was achieved in the 1999-2000 season when the Club were runners-up in the Welsh Senior Cup under manager Tomi Morgan who had joined the club in mid season. 2000-2001 season was Carmarthen's fifth in the League of Wales. A third position finish saw the club gain qualification for the UEFA Intertoto Cup, an honour that had been denied them on goal difference the previous season. The Intertoto Cup tie against Swedish giants AIK Stockholm was a significant landmark in the history of the club and ‘Town's' first European adventure ended in a creditable 3-0 defeat on aggregate. Following a 0-0 draw in the ‘home' match all the goals were conceded in the away leg played at Sweden's National Råsunda Stadium in Stockholm. The 2001-2002 season was also ‘Town's' second venture in the FAW Premier Cup, and, as in the previous year, they reached the quarter-final stages of the competition losing out to Football League opposition. The club also reached the quarter final of the Welsh Cup and the semi-final of the League Cup but an indifferent run of results towards the end of the season saw a mid table finish in tenth position. 18

The 2002-2003 campaign saw Town disappointingly finish in the bottom half of the table. The season was not without its positive side however as a number of Town's younger players had the opportunity to gain valuable first team experience. With the club resolved to regain its position of previous years significant changes to the squad were made for the 2003-2004 season. However the anticipated change in fortunes did not materialise and with the departure of manager Tomi Morgan team management responsibility was taken over by Andrew York. In December 2003 the club appointed Mark Aizlewood as club coach. Despite continuing to struggling in the League Town enjoyed a successful Challenge Cup campaign finishing as runners up to Rhyl FC. Having achieved significant developments off the field the club was determined to redress its playing profile. With the resignation of Andrew York Mark Jones was appointed manager in May 2004. Consequently there was a significant change in personnel and Town had a decidedly ‘new look' for the 2004 - 05 season. Gary Lloyd took over coaching duties following the departure of Mark Aizlewood to Chester and with Town finishing in sixth position and winning their first silverware in the form of the Loosemore's League Cup Town were clearly back in contention. Mark Aizlewood returned to the club during the close season to complement Mark Jones ' management structure and with several additions to the playing squad Town continue to strengthen to maintain the club's momentum for this season's campaign. A UEFA Cup spot was Town's reward as loosing finalists in the Welsh Cup and a very attractive draw against Eircom League outfit Longford Town in this season's UEFA draw highlighted Town's resurrection in fortunes. A 2-0 defeat in Longford was spectacularly overturned a fortnight later at Latham Park Newtown when Town
demolished the Eircom League outfit 5-1 ( 5-3 on aggregate) achieving the highest score of any Welsh club in European competition. The second Qualifying Round saw Town drawn against Danish giants FC Copenhagen. Town performed with great credit against the international laden Danish side who recorded a 2-0 score line in both ties. The 2005-2006 season saw Town once again involved in a FAW Premier Cup campaign with an exciting win over Cardiff and a narrow extra time semi final defeat in front of a near capacity crowd against Swansea City. Following a quarter final Welsh Cup exit late season momentum saw Town gain a fourth place finish that provided a second consecutive season of European football. Defeats in both ties against Finnish League leaders Tampere United ensuring there was no repeat of the previous year's European euphoria. The 2006-2007 League campaign saw Town finish in a disappointing 7th. position but the Richmond Park outfit brought the season to a close on a high with a historic first Welsh Cup win that ensured a fourth European campaign. The win ensured a third consecutive year of European football for the club and with the departure of Mark Jones Deryn Brace took over as Player / Manager. Town hosted their first European tie (UEFA Cup) at Richmond Park against Norwegian giants SK Brann, who lost out in the knockout stages to Everton FC. Town progressed to the semi final of the FAW Premier Cup but in a tight end to the 2007-2008 season the Richmond Park outfit finish in 6th. position. A bright start to the 2008-2009 season saw Town go seven games undefeated. Looking to improve on the previous season finish Town enjoyed several good runs that kept them in contention for a top three finish.

Following Town's contentious semi final defeat to Aberystwyth Town in the Welsh Cup the Richmond Park outfit amassed their second highest total in the League for a pleasing fourth place finish. With the Welsh premier League due to be restructured at the end of the season it was vital that Town attain a top ten finish to the 2009 – 2010 campaign. But lacking consistency and with a dismal home record they languished below the magic ‘cut off’ point for most of the season. However a 4-0 home win against Druids on the last day of the season saw Town attain the target to maintain Welsh Premier status. With manager Deryn Brace resigning his post in June Tomi Morgan was appointed manager for a second term of office at Richmond Park. Despite being everybody’s favourites to be relegated the completely new look Old Gold squad battled bravely throughout the season and comfortably avoided relegation. With more time during the close season Morgan added to his young squad. Unfortunately due to the poor results Morgan was removed from his managerial post at the start of December. Mark Aizlewood was appointed as the new manager in January 2012 accompanied by Neil Smothers as player coach. They have remained in situ since then. The main achievements during this period have been two Word Cup final victories. By now Aizlewood and Smothers have been joined on the coaching staff by Danny Thomas. Season 2015/16 ended disappointingly when the Old Gold lost the play off semi final to eventual Europa League qualifiers gap Connah’s Quay. Having retained a large proportion of their squad the coaching staff begin their season from a solid base.

FIRST TEAM STAFF ANDY MORRISON - First Team Manager Morrison joined The Nomads in November 2015 and oversees all football development at the Club, working with the chairman and staff to create and implement the strategies that will help the Connah’s Quay club reach its’ full potential. Morrison, who left Airbus UK Broughton in July of 2015, was instrumental in helping the Broughton-based club reach the Europa League Qualifying Stages for three successive seasons, finishing 2nd twice and 3rd in the Welsh Premier League between 2013 - 2015. As a professional player, he captained the Manchester City side who won the Division 2 Play Off final at Wembley in 1999 and now represents the Etihad outfit as an Official Fan Ambassador. JAY CATTON - Assistant Manager and Director Football Previously a player with The Nomads but took on coaching role after four knee operations. Completed UEFA A license and also has UEFA B license in coaching goalkeepers and a BA (Hons) degree in Sports Coaching and exercise Sciences. Catton is not only the Assistant Manager of the first team, but also Academy Director, over seeing all aspects of The Nomads Academy, including the scholarship programme run in partnership with Coleg Cambria, and was also heavily involved in ‘The Quay 3G project. DANNY HARRISON - Player/Coach Harrison is a product of the Tranmere Rovers youth system, having joined the side as a 13 year old, he made his first team debut in 2001 at home against Wigan Athletic. He went on to make 125 appearances for Tranmere before joining Rotherham United in 2007 where he made an additional 188 Football League appearances. In June 2012, it was announced that Harrison had rejoined Tranmere and the following summer he joined Chester FC. Harrison joined The Nomads in January 2015 and made his debut in a 1-0 victory over Bala Town, going on to make 14 appearances for The Nomads in his debut season. It was announced in May 2015 that Harrison has signed a two year deal to keep him at the Club until the end of the 2016-17 season.
