EDITOR’S WELCOME Good evening and welcome to Deeside Stadium. As everyone else states in their articles today, I can't quite get my head around how we beat Goytre United last week in the cup, but what a feeling when Les scored that third goal! It's been a busy week for me personally, compiling our first ever Goal of the Month competition video, which if you haven't already seen, go and check it out on YouTube - there are some great strikes in there. This is the largest programme we've made this season so far, including some great content including previous results against Druids, a roundup of the Cup and some quick fire questions with Wes Baynes. Hopefully tonight won't see Druids hold out as well as they did when we played them at TNS earlier in the season! Thanks for reading and enjoy the game. Come on The Nomads! Nik

MATCH PREVIEW
Druids come to Deeside as Nomads look to secure second ahead of split Tonight's game sees The Nomads welcome 10th placed Cefn Druids to Deeside Stadium as The Nomads look to stamp their claim on second place in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League. The Nomads currently sit second, three points ahead of third placed Bala Town who have had a resurgency of late, climbing the table dramatically over the last six weeks following a fine run of form. A win tonight could see The Nomads open up a six point gap over Bala, and a nine point gap over fourth placed Bangor City. While The Nomads are looking to secure a place towards the top of the table, Druids are currently sitting tenth on sixteen points with just five points separating the bottom five teams. The last time that we faced Druids was at TNS earlier this season and a strong rearguard from Druids kept The Nomads at bay in a frustrating 0-0 draw. Ahead of tonight's game, Andy Morrison said "We have had ten days to rest ahead of tonight's game and that rest period was needed after two very tough games against Rhyl and Goytre United. There are times in football where you have to find a way to win - when it feels like everything that could go against you is going against you and yet time and time again, this group of players find a way to win. The final three minutes against Goytre United yet again showed me that it's not a coincidence that the lads find a way to overcome adversity. Down to ten men and a goalkeeper standing on one leg, to not only find an equalizer but to somehow score a winner with ten seconds to go and win the game was quite remarkable. The five day rest was well deserved. Thursday night was a tough session working on cardio and some different formations going forward - Saturday morning, we focused on tonight's game against Druids. After their win against Newtown, who had beaten us in the game before, we know we are in for a real test. Huw's teams are always organised and disciplined. We will have to be right at the top of our game to get the right result. What we do have is a fantastics home record and as last Saturday has shown, we are never beaten until the final whistle - it will take a very good team to leave Deeside Stadium with all three points." Davies hat-trick inspires last gasp Cup win In a dramatic JD Welsh Cup third round game at Deeside, The Nomads beat Goytre United 3-2. Despite trailing by two goals to one in the 91st minute, a Les Davies hat-trick sent The Nomads into the fourth round. The game began and although both sides enjoyed early chances via Nick Rushton and Martin Rose, the opening stages were largely uneventful as The Nomads and Goytre United looked to get a hold on the game. 6
The Nomads vs Cefn Druids
In the 16th minute, a melee occurred in the Goytre United area from a Les Davies cross, with Woolfe and Rushton unable to get a shot on goal. The visiting side came to Deeside aiming for an upset, and this showed in their surging runs into The Nomads’ area. Goytre United came close to taking the lead on 20 minutes, when a free kick bobbled and went off the post in a lucky escape for The Nomads. From this point in the game the half was largely a subdued affair, with The Nomads enjoying a lot of possession but failing to convert it into serious chances against a battling Goytre United side. The game was to become more difficult for The Nomads, when John Danby had issues with a leg injury in the 30th and 38th minute but managed to continue with Wes Baynes taking goal kicks.
Goytre United went ahead in the 43rd minute, when Tim Hicks sent a great header into the bottom left corner of The Nomads' net, forcing the home side to go in at half time both trailing and frustrated with an ineffective performance. In the second half, The Nomads came out to try and avoid an upset, with Les Davies scoring the first of what would come to be a dramatic hat trick in the 49th minute. Davies scored from yards out after connecting with a slick cross into the United area from Lewis Short. Yet The Nomads were on level terms for just four minutes, with a Dylan Blain strike for Goytre United beating the injured John Danby to go neatly into the bottom left corner of his goal. With The Nomads’ place in the JD Welsh Cup under serious threat, changes were made with Chris Rimmer replacing Wes Baynes to join Declan Poole who had replaced Nick Rushton at the start of the second half. Minutes later, Ashley Ruane replaced Jay Owen, as The Nomads put their faith in fresh legs to give the side a much needed boost. Despite this, The Nomads remained frustrated with series of attacks on the Goytre United end being blocked and wasted. Time began to run out and with ten minutes to go the game was Goytre United’s to lose, with the Welsh League Division One side coping well with The Nomads’ pressure and still able to make darting runs into the home half. In the 88th minute, The Nomads were reduced to ten men, when Tom Field was shown a straight red card for violent conduct. Losing 2-1 and down to just ten players, it looked as if The Nomads were on their way out of the JD Welsh Cup, but a dramatic four minutes of injury time saw them make a remarkable comeback. With four minutes added, Les Davies equalised in the 92nd minute when he got on the end of a Nathan Woolfe cross, looping a header from the edge of the box over Luke Martin in the United goal to bring Nomads level at death. Many at Deeside presumed extra time was on the way, but Davies completed his hat trick in the most dramatic of fashions with a 94th minute header which went high into the Goytre United goal. This stunning end to the game saw two goals for The Nomads in two minutes, which handed them victory after a largely disappointing performance during which Goytre United looked deserved of a cup upset.

A VIEW FROM THE STAND
BY WILL CATTERALL Hello and welcome to a view from the stand where we’re braving this December evening for yet another hard night of Welsh Premier football. Christmas is nearly here, but for us it just means even more hard work as we look to finish phase one on a high. We all needed a break over the weekend after the drama that was our third round JD Welsh Cup tie against Goytre United. With 90 minutes gone, we were 2-1 down and heading out of the competition, but two inspired goals in injury time from Les Davies kept us in it by the skin of our teeth. This game was yet another example of us not being at our best, but finding a way to win. It still feels strange to be not fully satisfied with victories, as a poor show for The Nomads used to mean we were fighting relegation – now it’s holding onto second in the league. Going back a further week, the 2-1 victory over Rhyl showed how not only how we can cope with pressure, but come from behind to end up on top - a compulsory quality if we’re going to be successful this season. It’s nice to be localised for our run in until the New Year – we’re home tonight, on Saturday, and then taking the short trip to Airbus on Boxing day before coming back to Deeside for the 30th December. These games will be tough, but we take them one at a time. Tonight, we welcome Cefn Druids, who are one of a handful of clubs to have frustrated us since the start of the season. Playing them at TNS’ Park Hall back in August, we dominated only to be held to a 0-0 draw. That will no doubt be on our minds going into the game, and we hope it will be fully behind us by the end of the evening. You’re no doubt a hardcore follower of our scene if you’re here tonight, so thanks for supporting the lads as we brace ourselves for a cold evening, but hope the football will have us warm in no time. Nomads Ultras Prediction: The Nomads 3-0 Cefn Druids Nomads Ultras' Player of the Week: Les Davies Les’ hat trick heroics of the cup tie against Goytre United gets him player of the week. Just when we were set to be dumped out of the competition, he stepped up where it mattered most to rise up and send two headers in to win us the game. An ever present member of the team this season, Les’ strength and power upfront is pivotal for us, and we hope to see him add more goals to his tally tonight.

GREEN'S PIECE
BY TREVOR GREEN Good Evening. Welcome to the Deeside Stadium. Tonight we welcome Cefn Druids. Matches against Druids are never easy, for the oldest club in Wales are resilient and know how to fight for a result. Earlier in the season, we played them at TNS and we put them on the backfoot from start to finish but could not score. If it was a boxing match, the referee would have stopped it to save them further punishment. It was hard not to admire their effort. They earned the point. We welcome everyone from Cefn Mawr tonight, Huw and his players, Mark and his officers and their supporters. That we are playing them Tuesday and not Saturday is a little bit of football history. They were due to meet Llantwit Major in the Welsh Cup on Saturday 3rd but they had three players called up to participate in the Futsal Home Internationals. This season, for the first time, UEFA have recognised Futsal Internationals as full representative matches and therefore with three players on duty they requested the statutory postponement. This meant they were the first side to have a Welsh Cup tie postponed for Futsal call ups. As Llantwit Major are south-Walians, the cup tie needed to be played last Saturday and so we became the first postponement to allow for Futsal call ups. We talked earlier about Druids' determination and resilience, but those are not qualities we lack either. Goytre United had played very well here on the third in the Welsh Cup and just about deserved what looked like a winning lead as we entered stoppage time. We were two one down, had huffed and puffed without creating much for twenty minutes and were down to ten men after Tom Field's kick out saw him see red. Everyone, except the ten playing, were certain we had been giant killed. Andy has been talking all season about this side’s ability to snatch wins by sheer guts. Well, we did it again. Two Les Davies headers in the 92nd and 94th minutes saw us commit a mugging. Our reward was a fourth round match against another non Welsh Premier League side. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it’s away and at the furthest possible opposition, Haverfordwest. 10
The Nomads vs Cefn Druids
But we obviously have a great chance of further progress. When we started out, we were on the back of the tide of joy that our European success brought us. We had a great squad and were ready to take on all comers. By September we had lost all four of our centre-backs to injury. We had three others out too. The window was shut and it looked as though we might struggle for a top six berth. We reckoned without the spirit and determination that is the heart of this club under Andy Morrison. At one point or another, we have been without skipper George Horan (only 135 minutes played). Ian Kearney and Michael Pearson (both out for the season) , Chris Rimmer, Wes Baynes, Lewis Short, Nathan Woolfe, Callum Morris, Shelton Payne, Michael Wilde, Tom Field and Matty Williams. For the match here with Rhyl, John Nixon turned to me and said; ”Look, there are more first teamers in the stand than on the pitch!” Despite setbacks that would have done for anyone else we have made it. Llandudno’s win over Carmarthen on Saturday made our top six place at the split mathematically certain. We now push on to hold second place from a resurgent Bala Town. Why have Bala come on like a train in recent weeks? They have got Lee Hunt, Kieran Smith and John Irving back from injury. Our turn soon. Skipper George and striker Wilde are near to re-taking the field and we are weeks from the transfer window re-opening. Today we have Mark Petch refereeing and he is assisted by Cheryl Foster and Liam Gray; with Iwan Griffith as fourth official. Thank you for giving us your time, skill and experience. Enjoy the game everyone, and see you back on Saturday for the big battle. We have won the last two home league games against TNS. They come here on the back of eighteen straight league wins. Can lightening strike for a third time? Well, join us at 5:15pm in front of the Sgorio cameras to find out. Trev

CLUB GOAL OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Luka Salvatore of our under nine team, who was recently selected by First Team Manager, Andy Morrison as the winner of the first ever Nomads Club Goal of the Month for November. Luka's effort saw him use strength and determination to avoid the challenges of two Chester players before hitting a left footed strike in to the top corner beyond the Chester goalkeeper in a game played on November 4th. In second place behind Luka was Junior Scott of the U16 team who drove from the half way line and hit a powerful strike from around 25 yards past the Flint Town United goalkeeper. Third place went to Noah Sumner of the under 11's for his strike against Airbus UK. He controlled the ball on his thigh before volleying the ball over the goalkeeper. A full review of the goals will feature in the TNS match programme where the winners will also receive an award from Andy Morrison ahead of kick off. If you haven't already seen the goals, simply visit The Nomads' YouTube page. 12

NOMADS' ARCHIVE
WELSH PREMIER LEAGUE 2006/07 BY DAVID RAPSON Following the traumas of the previous campaign, The Nomads began 2006/07 in different surroundings – at Cae-Y-Castell, the home of our Huws Gray Cymru Alliance neighbours Flint Town United. After several years of postponed games at the Deeside Stadium courtesy of a poor drainage system, the pitch there was dug up and the problems solved. Playing all your home games at a neutral ground can have a detrimental effect upon a team but that fact seemed to have escaped The Nomads who were to enjoy one of their best ever seasons in the Welsh Premier League. Apart from a 0-4 defeat at the hands of The New Saints, Connah’s Quay did not lose another league match until the last weekend in October when Welshpool Town were our visitors. Up to then, we had accrued 18 points (five wins and three draws) from nine league games and sat in fourth place only four points behind the leaders, TNS. Three goals in seven first-half minutes from The Lilywhites ‘burst our bubble’ but it was to be another five games before we lost again in the league, also to a team nicknamed The Lilywhites – Rhyl, who gained a 2-1 victory over us at Belle Vue on Boxing Day to go top of the league. While disappointment at Christmas was hardly unusual for Connah’s Quay Nomads, as previous seasonal reviews have proved, the first half of the 2006/2007 season had given plenty of cause for optimism. Indeed, there was talk of the team gaining a place in European competition for the first time. Having managed to escape relegation the previous year, Neville Powell set about adding some quality players to his squad. In came the likes of Adam Dickinson, full-back Dave Swanick and two former Everton players in Craig Garside and Christian Seargeant, the latter a member of today’s ‘unbeatable’ TNS outfit. Despite the loss at Rhyl, The Nomads went into the New Year in fifth position in the Welsh Premier League. It was a sign of the team’s all-round improvement that two squad members had been chosen as the League’s ‘Player of the Month’ - Marc Limbert (August 2006) and Tommy Mutton (November). Mutton and Dickinson had scored seven league goals apiece helping to negate the loss of Stuart Rain who moved back to Mold Alexandra (where typically he netted a hat-trick on his debut) after 399 games and 150 goals for The Nomads in all competitions. Our interest in the Loosemores League Cup ended with a 2-0 defeat at Rhyl in the quarter-final with another nemesis of ours, Lee Hunt, scoring both goals. Previously, we had qualified from Group B along with The New Saints and at the expense of NEWI Cefn Druids and Airbus UK. Both The Nomads and TNS won five of their six games, losing the odd one to each other. We beat Airbus UK 6-1 away and 7-2 at home while The New Saints thumped Airbus 11-0 in their first meeting when Nick Ward, John Toner and Michael Wilde each scored hat-tricks.

The Nomads vs Cefn Druids
On New Year’s Day 2007, we were set to entertain Rhyl at Cae-Y-Castell and a big crowd was anticipated, quite possibly a league record for The Nomads. Both teams were in good form and more than 700 had witnessed the Boxing Day game along the coast. Sadly the weather put paid to that and we had to wait until Haverfordwest County came north on 6th January to play our first ‘home’ game for six weeks. Yet it was well worth the wait for The Nomads, who coasted into a 4-0 lead inside the first 35 minutes. County pulled a goal back before the break and that man Tim Hicks added another early in the second-half. Two more strikers entered the fray as The Bluebirds sensed something from the game and when Jack Christopher scrambled a third goal they were in the driving seat. Fortunately, a late penalty kick allowed our centre-back Chris Williams to complete his hat-trick and we scraped through 5-3. A 2-0 win at Caernarfon Town and a goalless draw with The New Saints kept us in the frame at the top before a disappointing 1-3 defeat at the hands of mid-table Bangor City, a side that had already lost five times at Farrar Road. The Nomads had been pretty solid at the back all season with Paul Smith in goal, Swanick and Gary Lovell the full-backs and Williams alongside Gary Pinch at the heart of the defence. Another defeat followed as lowly Airbus UK, without an away win for almost twelve months, beat us 2-1 on a horrendously wet night at Flint. By early March, The Nomads’ interest in the Welsh Cup was still alive following victories over Aberystwyth Town, Newport YMCA and Llandudno but with Rhyl and TNS already out of the competition we were drawn away to the full-timers of Llanelli in the last eight. Despite their professionalism, the Reds lay three places behind us in the league table but found cup football to their liking and beat us 6-2 in the quarterfinal before themselves losing 1-0 in the semi-final to Carmarthen Town, the eventual Welsh Cup winners. Thankfully The Nomads’ league form improved after the cup loss although we were finding it hard to score goals. Chris Williams struck his fifth goal of the season in a 1-0 success at Newtown before our defence held firm in gaining a point from a goalless draw at high-flying Welshpool and then another three points came our way thanks to Tommy Mutton’s strike against NEWI Cefn Druids. Suddenly The Nomads were on the up and despite being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Cwmbran Town the players fought hard for that point having been twice behind. Craig Garside scored both our goals and Chris Seargeant was on the scoresheet in each of the next two fixtures, scoring the game’s only goal at Port Talbot Town and the first of two at Porthmadog four days later. Tommy Mutton added a second before Les Davies netted Porth’s consolation. With four games remaining, we found ourselves in third place two points behind Rhyl and seven ahead of Llanelli in fifth. Eight minutes from the end of the home game against Aberystwyth Town on 7th April and the score at 0-0, Adam Dickinson was hauled to the ground and The Nomads awarded a penalty kick. Sion James was rightfully red-carded joining team mate Luke Sherbon for an early bath. Limbert scored but only from the rebound off goalkeeper Richard Morgan and Aber’s gallant nine men were defeated. That left us with home games against top sides Llanelli and Rhyl and a visit to lowly Caersws. A top three spot was ours for the taking given the right results from those three games but we failed. Llanelli won 1-0 at Flint and Caersws beat us 2-1, only their second home win of the entire campaign and the first for seven months! We battled hard against Rhyl and there was no score going into the last 20 minutes. Then Andy Moran found the back of our net and as if to seal our own fate a Dave Swanick own goal confirmed Rhyl as runners-up. That we finished fifth was to the great credit of players and management considering every game was an away match that season. Then, the bombshell came as Neville Powell left the club to take up the reins at Bangor City after 14 years with the Nomads. The Nomads vs Cefn Druids

CEFN DRUIDS' HISTORY
In 1872 Plasmadoc Football Club, founded three years earlier, became Druids when the various colliery and quarry teams in the hills around Ruabon and Cefn Mawr were brought together under one banner. Six Druids players were in the first Welsh international side which played Scotland on 25 March 1876 - the most from a single club ever to play for Wales – whilst the first secretary of the Welsh FA, Llewelyn Kenrick, was also an ex-Druid. In 1876 Druids entered the English FA Cup, the first Welsh club to do so, and in 1882/83 they defeated Bolton Wanderers in the fourth round, losing to eventual winners Blackburn Olympic in the quarter finals. Druids played in the very first Welsh Cup game at Newtown on 13 October 1877, just a week after playing Scottish giants Queens Park at Hampden Park, and ended up as runners-up to Wrexham in the first Welsh Cup Final in 1877/78. Druids were finalists in the first six years of the competition and became the first club to win it three times in succession by lifting the trophy from 1880-1882. In all Druids have won the Welsh Cup eight times. The club joined the first Welsh League in 1890 and rose again towards the end of the nineteenth century with more silverware. In 1920 the club left Wynnstay Park to combine with Rhosymedre to become Rhosymedre Druids, playing at Church Field. They merged with Acrefair United in 1923, becoming Druids United, but were perennial strugglers in the Welsh National League (North) until stepping down to the Wrexham & District League in 1930, moving to yet another new 22
The Nomads vs Cefn Druids
ground, this time in Acrefair. League form improved during the 1950s and, in 1957, Druids United reached the Welsh Amateur Cup final, losing to Porthmadog in a replay at Bangor. In that same season the club won the first of two consecutive Welsh Youth Cups. Profit from the Amateur Cup run enabled the club to fund the layout of a new ground on derelict land in the centre of Cefn Mawr, which became the club’s home for over 50 years. A young George Best was part of a Manchester United XI that provided the opposition for the first match there. But enthusiasm at Druids had waned by the 1980s when Druids were being outstripped by arch rivals Cefn Albion, who were formed in 1967. Albion played initially at The Bont, then at Rhostyllen, Ty Mawr and Church Fields before settling back at Ty Mawr, scooping numerous pieces of silverware as they climbed the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area). A merger between the two clubs was resisted until former Chester manager Ken Roberts intervened to convince the rival factions that an amalgamation was in the best interests of everyone. Thus, in 1992, Cefn Druids FC was born, playing at Plaskynaston and carrying the white and black colours of the original Plasmadoc club. The club steadily consolidated in the Cymru Alliance, helped by a renewed youth policy, and under Gareth Powell, strolled to the 1998/99 Cymru Alliance championship, scoring over 100 goals in the process.
The club marked its arrival in the League of Wales with a 1-0 win at Inter Cardiff, the previous year’s runners-up, in its very first game and, in 2001/02, reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup. A succession of managers were unable to prevent the Ancients from finishing in the second relegation spot at the end of the 2004/05 season but with only one team from the feeder leagues being promoted, Druids survived the drop. For several years the possibility of a new stadium for the club was touted as the Plaskynaston land was earmarked for a supermarket and the existing stadium was showing signs of its age. But delays to the start of construction to the new ground meant the club was going to struggle to meet the criteria for the revamped 12-club Welsh Premier League. The club cut its cloth accordingly as relegation appeared certain with the club battling at the wrong end of the table. When the inevitable relegation happened Druids returned to Rhosymedre in 2010 when the new stadium, The Rock, was completed. The 2011/12 season saw the club reach the Welsh Cup Final for the first time in 108 years after claiming the scalps of Premier League sides Prestatyn Town, Aberystwyth Town and Airbus UK Broughton. A 2-0 reversal by The New Saints ended the club’s fairytale story but, as the winners had also won the Welsh Premier League, Cefn Druids reached Europe for the first ever time.
The 2012/13 season started with the Europa League First Qualifying Round tie against Finnish side MyPa-47, who had previously faced Liverpool in European competition. A creditable goalless draw in the first leg at the Racecourse Stadium was followed by a 5-0 defeat in Finland. Domestically, despite a mid-season wobble, the club finished second in the Huws Gray Alliance and achieved the FAW Domestic Licence. The 2013/14 season saw Cefn Druids storm to the Huws Gray Alliance title, losing just one match in the process. And, with the Domestic Licence again awarded, promotion to the Welsh Premier League was achieved. The NEWFA Cup was again secured with a 2-0 victory over Ruthin Town in a repeat of the 2012 final, and ensured Druids repeated the double of 1999. The club’s return to the Welsh Premier League was shortlived, however, as an 11th placed finish saw the club relegated back to the Huws Gray Alliance after just the one season back in Wales’ top flight. The return to the Huws Gray Alliance in 2015/16 saw Druids finish in second place but, because of Caernarfon Town’s failure to secure the domestic licence, gain an immediate return to the Welsh Premier League. In addition to this, the NEWFA Cup was secured for the third time in five seasons.
In addition the Welsh Cup run, Druids won their first trophy since 1999 after a 4-0 win over Ruthin Town at Wrexham’s Racecourse Stadium gave the club the North East Wales FA Challenge Cup.
