Good evening and welcome to Deeside Stadium for our first Cup game of the 2016/17 season. While everything is going brilliantly in the League, we all know that Cup football is often very different and can throw up upsets and we are no strangers to that against tonight's opposition.
Players, playing staff, matchday staff and fans are allowed to park on the Coleg Cambria grounds where designated parking spaces are outlined. Please note that vehicles parked in non-allocated parking spaces may be subject to a fine or clamping.
This week's programme takes on a slightly different front cover to use the imagery of the competition and it provides a nice change for me. We've taken a look at the competition through articles from Trevor Green and Dave Rapson as well as an update on the results and fixtures from the competition thus far.

MATCH PREVIEW
Nomads look for cup revenge on Denbigh Tonight's game sees The Nomads host Denbigh Town in the second rounds of the Nathaniel MG Cup. The game is the third meeting of the two sides in the past 12 months, and The Nomads will no doubt have a measure of revenge on their minds following their 1-0 defeat to Denbigh in last season's Semi-Final of the same competition. Denbigh went on to lose out to TNS in the final of last year's competition, and The Nomads rued missed chances on the night. The two sides met again in pre-season this past July where goals from Matty Owen, Jake Jones and Jake Leonard along with an own goal gave The Nomads a comfortable 4-1 victory. The Nomads go into the game in their richest vein of form in recent memory, having not lost a game in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League since late April - Bala were the victors on that day, but since Andy Morrison's side have gone on to pick up eight wins and four draws and currently sit second in the league behind also unbeaten TNS. Denbigh on the other hand are currently sitting 13th in the Huws Gray Alliance having won just two of their nine games this season, and were recently defeated 3-0 by Gresford Athletic in the JD Welsh Cup. Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said "Tonight's game will be a welcome distraction from the league and an opportunity for players who have not had as many minutes as they would like to show why they should start against Bangor in our next league game. It also gives me an opportunity to give a few of our younger lads the chance to show they are ready to step up to the first team. Thankfully we have a free weekend after tonight's game which will give us the chance to rest up players who have been playing with knocks and also the first opportunity to mentally get away from football since the start of June when we came back in to prepare for our European games." Morrison concluded "I must stress that players will be resting up mentally and that if any player at the start of October needs to physically rest, then they are not fit enough and need extra work, not rest."

Rushton goal takes Nomads to ten unbeaten
second in the table, but once again had to field a makeshift side owing to injuries.
The Nomads beat Carmarthen Town by one goal to nil on Sunday afternoon thanks to a Nick Rushton header. Despite the game being evenly contested throughout, a 56th minute goal from Nick Rushton was enough to retain The Nomads’ unbeaten record and position of second in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League.
Referee Iwan Griffith got proceedings underway and both teams immediately went for goal. Liam Thomas broke free for Carmarthen in the sixth minute, but John Danby made an excellent low save off his line to deny the chance. Les Davies then counter attacked, having a wicked shot from 20 yards blocked by the Old Gold defence.
The Nomads came into game on the back of a good 2-0 win against Rhyl the previous Sunday, whilst Carmarthen had restricted TNS to a narrow 2-1 victory at Park Hall. The Nomads knew three points would help them stay
Nathan Woolfe showed his individual skill yet again on the wing for Nomads, sending a cross into the Carmarthen area which Les Davies sent just wide in the eighth minute.

The Nomads vs Denbigh Town
John Disney and Jay Owen took up their caretaker positions as centre backs, with Matty Williams and Nick Rushton also starting. The game also saw 16 year old academy product Connor Harwood called up to the senior squad for the first time with a place on the bench.
Carmarthen threatened at regular intervals, with Declan Carroll shooting powerfully on target from 25 yards, forcing Danby to make a solid catch on his goal line. The teams largely cancelled each other out in the first half, with both sides attacking but unable to find a clinical finish in the face of The Nomads and Carmarthen’s respective defences who performed well all game. The Nomads’ best chance of the half came in the 31st minute, when Matty Williams found himself through on goal, but as he tried to get closer for an angled shot keeper Lee Idzi came out to sweep and save for his side. The likes of Williams, Woolfe and Nick Rushton all created for Nomads at the end of the first half but to no avail, with the game still goalless at half time. The second half again saw both teams display their will for a Dafabet Welsh Premier League win, attacking each other with good movement in the midfield. Forcing a corner, The Nomads went close when Nathan Woolfe’s delivery was cleared close to the Carmarthen goal mouth in the 52nd minute. A double substitution followed with Matty Owen and Lewis Short introduced in place of Matty Williams and Sean Smith. The Nomads broke the deadlock via Nick Rushton in the 56th minute. Nathan Woolfe skilfully evaded his marker on the left wing before delivering a fantastic cross whish Rushton headed perfectly into the bottom right corner of Lee Idzi’s goal. Boosted by Rushton’s goal, The Nomads went on the offensive, having a cross from Woolfe cleared before Rushton sent another header goalwards which was this time saved by Idzi. Carmarthen, still very much in the contest despite The Nomads' lead, were then dealt a big blow when captain Lee Surman was shown a red card for a wreckless tackle on Les Davies. Reduced to ten men, they brought on Daniel Sheehan in place of Declan Carroll. Around 10 minutes after his goal, Nick Rushton’s game ended when he was substituted for Michael Wilde who helped The Nomads see the match out for its remaining 20 minutes. The game’s physicality began to climax, with The Nomads awarded a number of free kicks owing to fouls by Carmarthen, which couldn’t be converted to a second Nomads goal making for a tense finish to the fixture. Carmarthen were handed a golden chance to equalise in the 85th minute, when John Danby came out to punch a cross away and was caught off his line with Ceri Morgan in possession. Despite having an open goal 20 yards away, Morgan shot wide in Carmarthen’s last real chance. Victory was confirmed after three additional minutes during which Lewis Short and Les Davies helped hold up play in the Carmarthen half. The 1-0 win means The Nomads are still undefeated after the first ten Dafabet Welsh Premier League games of the season, an unprecedented feat in the Club’s modern era.

A VIEW FROM THE STAND
BY WILL CATTERALL Hello and welcome to Deeside Stadium, where for the first time this season, we are able to take a break from the league and get stuck into some cup action. Although the prospect of a midweek game can at first seem like hassle, once you’re here and under the floodlights it’s well worth the trip. Firstly, some reflection on our season so far. Having played 10 league games, we are unbeaten, winning six and drawing four. This is an unprecedented achievement in our modern history, and even more remarkable considering we’ve had no centre backs available but still conceded just three goals all season. But we’re not happy yet. We know we can grow, continuing to build on each performance week after week, which will no doubt influence the team this evening as we put ourselves to the test against a strong Denbigh Town outfit. One of the best things about the Welsh domestic cups is they demonstrate the great quality in the feeder leagues we have. Last season, we endured tough encounters against Prestatyn, Caernarfon and Buckley and of course were defeated by tonight’s visitors in the semi finals of this same cup. That game was just under a year ago, and both sides will remember it vividly for better or for worse. For us, it was a bitterly disappointing result to deny us our first cup final in years, whilst for Denbigh it was a landmark success and rightly so, as they went onto lose respectably against The New Saints in the final. We last met Denbigh in our first post-Europa League pre-season friendly in July. On that night, a young Nomads side came out 4-1 winners and we may well see some of junior players feature tonight. Last week’s inclusion of Connor Harwood in the first team squad was a great reminder that as we chase Europe at the highest level of Welsh football, we still grow and develop our young players. A warm welcome to our visitors tonight and we hope you enjoy what should be a great midweek feast of football. Nomads Ultras Prediction: The Nomads 4-2 Denbigh Town Nomads Ultras' Player of the Week: Nick Rushton Nick was our hero last week, getting a great goal in to secure us an important win and keep our unbeaten record intact. A skilled player and great servant, Nick has enjoyed some great performances for us so far in the league this season, and we hope to see him in cup action tonight.

GREEN'S PIECE
BY TREVOR GREEN Good Evening and a warm welcome to Denbigh Town. We are doing very well so far in 2016/17 season and Denbigh are not. They have had a tough opening and have seen players they value go elsewhere. Our pre season friendly match at Central Park was comfortably won by a side mainly composed of trialists and under 19’s. So it’s a foregone conclusion we will win tonight, right? Wrong - very, very wrong. We suffered our first defeat under Andy Morrison in the semi final of this competition last season to Denbigh Town. We hammered away at them for most of the match and chance after chance came and went. Then with ten minutes to go we won a penalty, but we missed, and given new heart they raided, scored from about their only chance of the match, and progressed to the final. They deserved to win because they played with guts and heart. I am sure they will tonight too. We welcome back former Nomads Mike Cronshaw and Alan Bull along with former Academy players Aled Reece and Abe Dobson. Gareth and his players are most welcome too, as are the officials and supporters. This is the Nathaniel MG sponsored League cup now. We thank the South Wales dealership for their support and think they have put their name to an ever improving competition. The inclusion of the best of the feeder League clubs and the Wildcard idea, (teams with the correct infrastructure can apply for inclusion despite not having qualified on Sporting Merit), have freshened it up, introduced giant killing and made it a competition we want to win. It has two major drawbacks though. Firstly there is no European place for the winners. This cannot be changed at present, without losing the idea of the play offs, and I would be amongst many who find that unacceptable. However, if Wales continue to climb as a nation in European Football and an extra berth in the Europa League becomes possible, (although unlikely at present), then this is where it should go.
10
The Nomads vs Denbigh Town
The other big problem for me is that most great competitions head for a final at a cherished venue. Playing it at Newtown, Aberystwyth or Llandudno just doesn’t make it special. More so because we play umpteen times a season at these venues already, due to our current and dull League format. So it’s time to get radical. We haven’t got a suitable venue nationally. The game is likely to draw a crowd of a couple of thousand at most. Put this into the Racecourse, The Millennium Stadium, Cardiff City Stadium or the Liberty at Swansea and it’s lost, more like a training session than a cup final. Two legged finals are appalling, and in our set up inevitably processional. So how about a new way of making it different. Wales has, at least, three ideal venues, all currently used predominantly for Rugby, but all easily set up for football. My idea is that the JD Welsh Cup and the Nathaniel MG Cup alternate annually. One final is played in the North and the other in the South (alternating). The FAW would put up a travelling grant for each finalist travelling more than 100 miles funded from the competition pool. The venues in the South could be Cardiff Arms Park, or the Scarlet’s Stadium in Llanelli. The venue in the North would be Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay. No other Welsh Pyramid matches would be played there; the venues would be truly neutral, and something different. Cardiff and Colwyn Bay are ideal venues, good hotels, great towns for supporters to visit pre and après match. This might be attractive to the supporters of both sides and would give the domestic cup finals a bit of a “buzz”. Let’s give it a try. So we continue to cement our position in the top six. We recorded a very good win on Sunday. Carmarthen were a very big and very physical side. They were well organised and gave us nothing all game. Without four who would be certain starters and with two others on the bench as walking wounded, we were never going to be able to trade blow-for-blow. But to quote Andy, “we found a way to win”. A dour battle of a match was illuminated with a very good goal indeed. It won’t win goal of the month - those are won by speculative long shots but it was a football goal. Nathan’s beating of his man and his great little cross being met by a very clever run and intricate header from Nick. For me that was a picture goal and worthy of winning any football match. This coming weekend we get a break, internationals and the Irn Bru Cup see no Dafabet Welsh Premier League fixtures. This gives us a chance to get some rest and recuperation before facing Bangor City here on Sunday 16th. We may just get our centre backs into action again by then. Callum Morris and Ian Kearney will take longer, but we should soon see the return of George Horan and the debut for Mike Pearson. Undoubtedly, Mike Wilde, Matty Williams and Lewis Short will be aided by the rest and it should be a fresh and fitter Nomads that meet third placed City here then. We hope you will join us. We thank our referee Tom Owen, his assistants Andy Harms and Alex Livesey and Nick Pratt as our fourth official for their time this evening. Trevor

NOMADS' ARCHIVE
THE NOMADS IN THE LEAGUE CUP BY DAVID RAPSON We take a look at The Nomads' 81 matches in the League Cup in its various guises since 1992. The side have reached the Final once in the 1995/96 season where a 1-0 victory over Ebbw Vale saw The Nomads lift the trophy (pictured above). Since then, The Nomads have reached the semi finals once against Rhyl in the 2009/10 season, losing out 5-2 on aggregate, and in a losing effort against tonight's opposition last season, again losing out just before the final. Late Denbigh strike topples Nomads The last time that The Nomads faced Denbigh Town, saw The Nomads crash out of theWord Cup semi finals losing 1-0. A Sam Jones goal in the 83rd minute was enough for the home side to secure a position in the final against The New Saints. The game in November 2015 was looked upon as a landmark game in the history of both clubs, with The Nomads having last been in a league cup final in 1996. Despite wet and windy weather, the game went ahead as a crowd of 550 watched on. The Nomads started the stronger side, with Jamie Crowther having a shot saved in the sixth minute, the first chance of the game.
18
The Nomads vs Denbigh Town
Sean Smith went on a run towards goal, but the Denbigh 'keeper Elliot Power ran out and got to the ball first. Les Davies then sent a powerful volley at the centre of the goal but Power was once again on hand to save. In a half where The Nomads were largely in control, Denbigh counter attacked on a couple of occasions but were found offside both times. In the second half, The Nomads came out of the stocks first with Ashley Ruane counter-attacking from a Denbigh free kick, going round the 'keeper only to be stopped by a clearance from the Denbigh defence, who ran back in time to get rid of the danger. From a Nomads corner Davies sent a shot that looked a certain goal - but a Denbigh defender was on hand to clear the ball off the line in a goalmouth scramble. On yet another attack, Davies ran into the box and was brought down. The referee pointed to the penalty spot,
but Ruane missed the golden opportunity to get The Nomads ahead in the 65th minute as Power dived to his left to deny The Nomads' substitute. As the game went on, Denbigh grew more and more confident as The Nomads just couldn't seem to find the goal. Immediately after the penalty, the home side saw a shot sail just over the crossbar from 30 yards. The Nomads continued to press with a succession of corner kicks, but could not find the breakthrough they needed. With time ticking in the game, Sam Jones scored for Denbigh in the 83rd minute. After a break, he found himself in space inside The Nomads' area to simply pass the ball into the bottom left corner of the net and send the home support into raptures. The Nomads continued to attack, but their time and luck were out with Denbigh retaining their lead after four minutes of injury time. This was a disappointing evening for The Nomads who had played well for large periods of the game, but failed to find the target upfront.
