MENTAL HEALTH

Unstable Mental Health affects students’ well being

Guidance Officer In-charge (OIC) and Grade 8 Guidance Advocate of Compostela National High School (CNHS) Maria Teresa A. Yap affirmed to conduct seminar among teachers regarding the mental health of the students to give awareness how to identify students who have unstable mental health, at the school’s Teen Tahanan on Wednesday, May 17.

Maria Teresa A. Yap together with the School Principal Norman G. Jandog attended a seminar regarding the mental health of the students and how to identify students at risk of suicide last May 10-11 at Davao City, so they wanted what they have learned to re-echo to the teachers at CNHS.

“Naa tay recent na case which is nag suicide ang bata, dili pud ta kaingon kung unsa jud iyang rason pero isa diri is ang unstable mental health,” stated by Yap.

She added that she also encountered student’s who have unstable mental health and fortunately some students are now better.

Moreover, mental health is a person’s overall psychological wellbeing, it is a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community, the pandemic is also a huge factor that affects the students’ wellbeing.

“Sa 17 years nako as Guidance Advocate, katung recent na case sa suicide palang akong na encounter nga pinaka severe so hopefully maka conduct ta og seminar sa atung mga teachers arun mabantayan pud nila ilang mga students nga naay gi dala-dala nga mga problema,” uttered by Yap.

She added that some students do not know how to express their selves, do not have anyone to talk to so they tend to do such things like wrist laceration to express what they truly feel and it affects how they behave in class and their relationship towards their peers, the pandemic is also a factor that affects the students’ wellbeing since they isolate their selves during pandemic.

Indeed, everyone has problems of their own and we can lessen it through meditating, talking regularly, surrounding yourself with positive environment and supportive people and pray because God is always there to help us.

TEEN TAHANAN

A place where you can call ‘home’

Guidance Officer In-charge (OIC) and Grade 8 Guidance Advocate of Compostela National High School (CNHS)

Maria Teresa A. Yap guaranteed that the students are always welcome in the school’s Teen Tahanan to help them deal with their problems, at the school’s Teen Tahanan on Wednesday, May 17.

Teen Tahanan is a place for students where they can talk to the Guidance Advocate regarding their concerns and personal problems, the Guidance Advocate will contact the student’s parents and collaborate with the Department of Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Philippine National Police (PNP) when the situation becomes severe.

“Welcome kaayo ang mga students na moadto diri sa atong Teen Tahanan arun ma tabangan pud nato sila no sa ilang mga problems,” stated by Yap.

She added that the Teen Tahanan is open for the students who have unstable mental health to help them overcome their problems.

However, the Teen Tahanan is also open for every student who desires to go their and spend their vacant time to

GUIDANCE ADVOCATE Cultivating little help for a brighter future

Guidance Advocate Maria Teresa A. Yap shared some coping mechanism regarding unstable mental health to help affected students overcome their struggles in life, at Compostela National High School (CNHS) on Tuesday May 17, 2023.

As a Guidance Advocate for 17 years, Yap encountered numerous cases about the mental health of the students and she shared her personal coping mechanism.

relax and meditate there.

“Pwede kaayo sila mag stambay or even matulog diri pag naa silay vacant time and naa pud tay mga board games para ma entertain pud sila,” said Yap.

She added that there is also a place in the Teen Tahanan where students who already have babies can temporarily leave their babies there and the teachers will take care of them.

Truly, student’s wellbeing is the upmost priority of the school so they encourage every student who have problems to go to the Teen Tahanan to help them lessen the burden they carry.

Unstable Mental Health affects perception

Grade 7 Dahlia student Quenni Fernandez seeked for help as she experienced unstable mental health to help herself overcome those challenges, at Compostela National High School.

Fernandez experienced sexual harassment from her uncle who is also suffering from unstable mental health due to the death of his father, causing her to have traumas and do such things to express herself like wrist laceration.

“Bug-at sa dughan, gusto ko maglaslas and gusto ko makabalo akong parents sa akong gibati,” stated by Fernandez.

She added that she told her problems to her adviser who is quick to respond as her adviser reported it to the guidance office and fortunately was able to help her surpassed those challenges.

Truly, there is nothing wrong when you chose to call for help when you can not handle it anymore, it is better to ask for help than just let it to yourself because it can ruin your perception and your entire wellbeing.

“Para sa ako to cope up with unstable mental health is, to talk regularly, meditate, surround yourself with positive environment and good people, strong relationship with your friends and family and of course pray to God,” uttered by Yap.

She added that she felt overwhelmed when she sees the smiles of the students she helped, she felt proud because it means that she fulfilled her duty as a Guidance Advocate.

Truly, even a little help can be a big change to anyone’s lives, you do not know how your help has helped them overcome the struggles they have encountered and help them faced their brighter future.

Mental Health: how it affects the learner's well being

Drops in academic performances caused great problems to schools, as it may be the result of a learner's mental well being deteriorating.

Guidance advocates are mad of the students openly joking/posting about depression/suicide to social media. As to resolve said issue, they have revitalized counseling, summoning students suspected to be at risk of committing suicide.

The student's drop in performance might come from cases ranging from mild such as anxiety and depression to severe case of bipolar disorder. These case may overtime lead to suicide as

learners can no longer cope with stress.

WHO reports said about 800,000 suicide related death occur every year, or about one death every 40 seconds. This has caused for guidance advocates to overseer all students at risk of committing suicide. Reasons for such cases may vary but commonly attributed to lack of interaction. The pandemic greatly affected all, as people are forced to be distant from one another, making them feel lonely and isolated, causing anxiety and depression. Other possible causes might come from genetics. A difference in brain chemistry

Thriving amidst the struggles

When talking about mental health, depression usually comes in to the mind. This needs to change.

People suffering from depression has a negative mindset, this way of thinking destroys their confidence severely hampering their creativity and capability. But there are ways to circumvent this.

Ignoring depression doesn't work neither embracing it. It can only be solve if you confront it. This can be done in multiple ways such as finding a hobby like sports, or relaxing the mind like. meditating.

can lead to uncontrolled burst of emotions.

The learner's capacity to learn is directly affected by their mental status, as being able to handle pressure allows for a more calculated and collective approach, rather to succumbing to emotions.

The best ways to avoid any negativities in a student's mentality, they must find a hobby wether leisure or sport, to interact with people as to form strong relationships or to be more socially connected, and to meditate, relax and cleanse the mind of any impurities.

Most people especially students encounter Mental Health Disorder. Their feelings, behaviors, and thoughts are affected. Without an advice, it could be hard to overcome the situations they decide not to open up, being a hero to someone who are a slave of difficulties could be the voice of them.

Finding a hobby is a great way to solve depression as this makes you feel more connected and devoted to ur hobby as long it doesn't do any harm to people and the environment. The sense of accomplishment will elevate anyone to confidence, this allows for enjoyment in any activities, helping you cope with any stress.

SH is not becoming irrelevant

Senior-Highschool was part of the K-12 program founded by Mrs. Cory Aquino.

2022 Marcos Administration, Vp Sara Duterte stated that SeniorHigh might remove as it is just the same as college.

Many students mainly JuniorHighs liked the idea of removing and skipping SeniorHigh preferring to jump right into college.

But I don't want to skip directly to college as I am not still ready for it, I would like to learn more before going to college.

If SeniorHigh was removed, I would in a state of unreadiness. Because there are a lot of things that you didn't learn in highschool, and SeniorHigh became a bridge to both worlds.

SeniorHigh offers a lot of things to learn from, by skipping it I would miss a lot of me lessons. SeniorHigh prepares us for college. Imagine yourself suddenly in college knowing so little, no background knowledge or no understanding of the concept. for that is skipping SeniorHigh.

It is true that SeniorHigh serves the same purposes as highschool, it not reasonable to remove SeniorHigh. Ultimately it's up for the student to decide.

Stop with these needless conclusions to life!

The WHO reported many deaths per year relating to suicide. The absurd amount of suicide deaths caused an uproar. As people are upset as why are people committing suicide even tho their in much better circumstances than the others. Are they not great full of the life they have?

It is a great sin to commit

suicide as you relinquished all the effort you made all those years, and your parents into making you. The time and resource amount spent in raising is beyond than just to end it. Additionally committing suicide, will end the millenia of ancestry.

NBA: Lakers eliminated Warriors, advance to conference finals

The Los Angeles Lakers took off the Golden State Warriors Game 6 in the Western Conference 122-101 to proceed in the finals, 12 p.m on May 13 2023.

Lebron James led the lakers with 10 points in the first quarter, with 2 rebounds and 4 assist.

Anthony Davis didn't show any signs of the apparent head injury that knocked him out of Game 17 which he delivered there 17 points and 20 rebounds.

The Lakers probably had the second quarter in their strong defense led by Lebron James and Austin Reaves which took the team to led with 8 points behind Warriors.

Reaves had 10 points in the second quarter that helped the Lakers stave off an early Warriors comeback attempt.

The Lakers jumped out to a 17-point lead early, but the Warriors cut it four in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was not going easy for the Warriors, Stephen Curry's 29 points, six rebounds and five assists weren't enough to save the Warrior's season as he was the only Golden state starter to score in double figures.

Reaves knocked down a half-court buzzer-beater to increase the lead to 10 at halftime, bringing the packed crown to the Lakers.

"Basketball is over for this year"Curry of Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have not lost before reaching the NBA Finals since 2013-2014 season against the LA Clippers, it will be the last time for the Warriors to lost to a western conference.

A loss like this can go one of two ways for the Warriors.

"Basketball is over for this year," Curry said "Felt in the fourth quarter with about seven minutes left. You just really never heard that from us before in terms of trying to make sense of losing a series like we did, unless it's been the finals. Gotta accept it, move on and try to be better next year."

There have been countless times, even with Hall of Fame teammates, where the Warriors have relied on

It's Never Too Late To Get The Title

Curry to win a game by himself, even him couldn't save the day this time.

The Lakers then held Curry scoreless in the second quarter, the Warriors began to claw its way back to draw level against the Lakers behind a 14-point frame for Curry.

But going into the fourth quarter with the Warriors down by 14 points, Curry simple doesn't get enough help, he was up to 26 points and no other starter had more than nine points.

Curry competed and led the team until the end, but he also struggled to find his 3-point shot as he did much of the match.

As bizarre as it sounds, basketball was originally played with a soccer ball and peach baskets, with referees having to retrieve the ball each time a player made a basket. In 1900, the string baskets we know today were introduced to the game and, later, backboards were attached to prevent spectators from blocking a shot.

GWS's Missed Win!

Golden State Warriors sadly lost to The Los Angeles Lakers eliminating them to.

Die hard fans of the Warrior shed tears as their favorite was eliminated to competing for the finals.

The whole game was a display of teamwork by the Lakers which the Warriors clearly lack. The fourth quarter was very tense for both teams as it was a the struggle between defeat and victory.

Sadly the Warriors lost as they severely lack any big names and team play. which led to Stephan Curry to carry the whole team

throughout the game.

The first quarter led by Lakers as the Warriors are too scattered to conduct a meaning full defense while lacking in offensive capabilities as only Curry is the only one bold enough to take on the opponent alone

The second quarter did not differ from the first as Lakers formed a solid defense impenetrable by the disorganized Warriors. This is implying the need of teamwork by the GSW.

Same goes to the third quarter as the Warriors badly needs any big

names or at least team players. The incoherent plays of GSW had led it to be very unorganized.

The players themselves are capable it's just they are not able to conduct an insurmountable offense as they're over reliant of Curry to solo the whole game

GSW needs to hire big names and further practice as they need to invest in improving their team play if they ever want to compete in the NBA finals again.

It might be too soon to say with conviction that a dynasty died Friday, but there was indeed a rebirth.

For the past series of play-offs, the Los Angeles Lakers never won a victory against the defending Champion Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers finally eliminated the Warriors with a 122-101 Game 6 victory at Crypto.com Arena on Friday, advancing to face No.1 seeded Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference.

The Lakers, tossed aside as a bad experiment just three months ago, and who had to participate in the Play-in Tournament, are in the Western Conference.

Meanwhile, on the same night, Lebron James saw his season continue, the defending Champion Warriors were in shambles and nothing like the club that won yet another title just last summer or in any in a tremendous nine-year run.

If anyone needed to pinpoint the exact moment this shift occured, look no further than the sequence at the end of the firs half of Game 6, which explained it all.

Davis said, "Me and 'Bron want another one," meaning a championship to match the first together, in 2020, in four years together Davis and Lebron have never lost a series in which they were both completely healthy.

It wasn't quite the 40-point trashing that the Lakers used to knock out the Memphis Grizzlies in the first, but Friday's victory was comprehensive with five Lakers scoring a double digit.

Did you know?

Basketball began with its invention in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Canadian physical education instructor James Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than football. Naismith was a 31-year old graduate student when he created the indoor sport to keep athletes indoors during the winters.[1] The game became established fairly quickly and grew very popular as the 20th century progressed, first in America and then in other parts of the world. After basketball became established in American colleges, the professional game followed. The American National Basketball Association (NBA), established in 1946, grew to a multibillion-dollar enterprise by the end of the century, and basketball became an integral part of American culture.
