According to Rodrigo, she used to sell pastil, a Filipino meal wrapped in banana leaves, in school to finance her education and contribute to her family’s needs—where she earned

In an exclusive interview, Rodrigo revealed that she was awarded an annual need-based grant aid of $89,000 from Harvard, $91,000 from Amherst, and $88,000 from Princeton, which amounts to almost 58 million pesos for her total undergraduate education in all institutions.

Furthermore, she came from a family of farmers, and her father is also a tricycle driver, which has fueled her motivation to apply for scholarships abroad.

"That is why I’ve always strived to help them in ways I know how (selling pastil and chili peppers at school for my allowance and buying simple necessities at home). And now, finally, I can give them the perfect gift—going to college for free and becoming a future environmental scientist (hopefully)," Rodrigo said.

Rodrigo emphasized in her Facebook post that aspiring students who wish to study abroad should be proactive, opportunity-seeking, and unafraid to take risks and ask for help.

"I hope my experience and story inspire other students. Whatever your background, embrace your ambitions and reach for the stars. You may face obstacles and challenges along the way, but don't let them discourage you. Remember that there is no limit to what you can achieve, as long as you believe in yourself and are willing to put in the effort. If you're a Filipino interested in studying abroad, feel free to contact me." Rodrigo stated.

Quake in DdO ensues abandonment of school buildings

Magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the province of Davao de Oro resulting in damage of infrastructures last March 7, 2023 — Compostela National High School (CNHS) abandoned several buildings due to major cracks bringing extensive adjustments of class schedules.

Municipal Engineering Office (MEO) together with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Compostela took immediate action upon inspecting the condition of the buildings within CNHS. It was found out that the Grade 10 building right beside the main building obtained minor and major cracks within its walls and floors which emerged back the blended learning to all grade levels.

“Actually the Grade 10 advisers together with their grade level head requested reinspection to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) because they felt uncomfortable within their building and later that afternoon the engineering team assessed the gap in between the cracks widened,” said School Disaster and Risk Reduction Management (SDRRM) Head, Mary Revelyn Cagang.

Cagang also stated that the 2nd floor of the Grade 10 building acquired major cracks on the floors, specifically the section Mabini. According to the Engineering team, it was said to be substandard and needs immediate repair.

Furthermore, the grade 9 building and science laboratory which is located in the 3rd floor of Senior High School building are also in-caution due to the steal heavy cabinets and equipments instilled, unloading of

equipments on 2nd-4th floor of buildings is advised in order to reduce the weight of the topmost floors and prevent the buildings to collapse.

In addition, there were about 745 aftershocks logged within the Province and unforeseeable ones to come sooner or later. Majority of the students are in need of applying the basic disaster measure awareness, as earthquakes up until now cannot be predicted even with technology.

“It is very traumatizing and at the same time raises awareness to us students of the importance of presence of mind in times like this,” stated by Althea Castanares, Grade 12 student of CNHS.

School-wide Paperless Exams, Integrated

Students perform a real life drill when an earthquake struck the province leaving damages on school’s infrastractures.

Castanares also shared her experience being at the 3rd floor during the earthquake, She stated that their class adviser encouraged them to stay calm and do the basic precautionary measure which is the “duck, cover, and hold”.

“As of now we’re not yet allowed to go back to our classroom, and currently on Set A, Set B set up with blended learning,” she added.

Lastly, CNHS still waits for further assessment and mandate from the MDRRMO as well as the division office to present a go signal to once again open the building for the students after its complete inspection and restoration.

He also added that considering that CNHS is envisioning to become a “21st century” school in the next few years, they want to improve teaching and learning methods by having technology materials available to the students, thus the implementation of chalkless instruction and paperless exam.

Sir Jandog remarked that the paperless examination provides convenience to the teachers and the administration since the conduct does not require any need for test paper reproduction, making it environment friendly with the

Parents Raise Concern for Sanitary Cause

Alerting school to take immediate action

Concerning clogged and filthy Comfort Rooms (CR) that are depriving the students to vent out their 'call-of-nature' urged the school institute to take immediate response through the assistance of Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), as the stakeholders had raised their concerns with regards to the insufficient CR that has become the hindrance to their children's daily attendance.

In accordance to the statement of a parent, whose name is being withheld to protect her privacy, she stated that her child was supposed to go to the CR on behalf of changing her sanitary pads, however she did not manage to go in because it was locked due to being too polluted and tarnished.

As per the School Principal

IV Norman G. Jandog’s initiative, Compostela National High School (CNHS) exerted diligence to find solutions to the school’s problems, especially regarding with the damaged CR’s.

With the help of PTA, CNHS was able to provide materials that were

Fostering lifelong values through revitalized PNP KASIMBAYANAN program

CNHS takes steps to build stronger morality

Compostela Municipal Police station collaborated with Musicianary and visited Compostela National High School (CNHS) to share lifelong values and uphold its mission in reinforcing law, preventing crimes, maintaining peace and order, and ensuring public safety and internal security last May 2, 2023 at the school’s gymnasium.

Revitalized Philippine National Police (PNP) Kapulisan, Simbahan, at Pamayanan tungo sa Kaunlaran (KASIMBAYANAN) is a holistic approach to address concerns with national peace and order as well as to prevent and control crime. Reaching out to the students who require moral and spiritual assistance is another goal of this activity — this was set in motion because of the chronic incidents of suicide, which was the main targets are the youth.

Additionally, PSSG Christopher T. Cabillar gave the welcome address and shared his knowledge about the antibastos and anti-bullying laws with the

aim of alarming and regulating students to prevent such incidents inside the school premise.

"Ayaw mo kahadlok!" Cabillar pointed out in his speech, mentioning women not to be afraid to speak up as they could easily reach out for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) especially to the PNP, if they experience abuse and molestation. The theme "Life is beautiful, kaligtasan nyo, sagot ko," was also truly evident based on the statement aforementioned.

Furthermore, according to Cabillar the Republic Act No. 11313 or The Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law) covers all forms of gender-based sexual harassment (GBSH) committed in public spaces, educational or training institutions, workplace and online space. And that students should not commit to this kind of act as they can face the worst penalty ahead.

"God is good all the time,"

Pastor Remil C. Sedurifa, PNP Compostela stressed as he gave motivational speech and worship songs together with the Musicianary, in order to bestow spiritual assistance to the students of CNHS. The activity really helped students to recover from all the bad things happening in our society, and it made them realize the good things in life.

"Dapat jud musalig sa Ginoo," Fevie Gwen P. Cadayona, a grade 7 Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) student stated after the moral recovery and worship service happened.

Moreover, PSSG Winston Dayon said that they are working hard to ensure a better future for the children.

Indeed, this program enlightened students about values that they can bear in their journey in life. It made them realize that a lot of things could go wrong, but God is the one and the only answer. Thus, by committing to a program where students can foster their

He added that through this assistance, the expenses for operation will be lightened, and also in order to make the operation progressive as possible. CNHS is making an effort to mend and evaluate all the comfort rooms inside the school premise, in order to determine the quantity of comfort rooms that require repair, with priority given to the ones that are obstructed.

"Amoa gyud ginahinayhinayan ug repairs labi na kadtong mga nag bara nga mga cr, like sa grade 10 building barado apan atong gikalot ug gi replacesan ug pipe," Romulo Racho, Physical Facility in-charge stated Additionally, Racho mentioned that there are also CR's in Grade 9 that were bearable by pumping but there

SPJ accomplishes Cleanup drive on Intramurals

Promoting cleanliness through initiating the clean up drive program is an initiative of Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) last January 15, 2023 at the Maputi River in Purok 6 Poblacion as a contribution to the activities in celebration of Intramurals 2023 of Compostela National High School (CNHS).

“Kasagaran mga activities na gibuhat sa Intrams kay for entertainment so nahuna-hunaan namo nga dili lang man ang tunong sa Intramurals kay puro duladula. We thought na magclean up drive during Intrams para naay contribution ang SPJ for the activities also. Intramurals has its purpose, the activities too” said by Excelle Balinas, SPJ coordinator. This program tend to continue

promoting cleanliness in the environment and to teach the SPJ learners the value of caring for the nature. Aside from sports and activities held during Intrams, SPJ take action to entertain the students at the same time advocate.

“Kailangan mag participate gyud ta sa clean up drive kay para ma lessen ang mga tambak-tambak nga basura nga makita ra nato bisan asa, in that way Kay makatabang mi para maprevent somehow Ang mga kalamidad.” said by Jade Ayala, one of the students in SPJ.

Moreover, they chose the Maputi River for their clean up drive as the bridge is recorded to overflow during rain caused by garbages. Through this program, they will be able to encourage the other students to do the same thing.

are still comfort rooms that are not fixed due to other priorities, perhaps, they did their best to respond to this problem immediately.

"Okay na sya, all CR are functional already," Evangeline D. Soria, grade 10 level head said as a response to the immediate action made by the school.

According to Soria, all clogged CR's are prioritized first even before the grade 10 building was abandoned. The school institute was righteous for addressing the concerns of the parents as this proves that a school is resilient and diligent to their work. The school being the role model to address liability and responsibilities if instances would occur is a testament that they will shape the students into a better and reliable citizen for the future. As the concerns are being addressed, students and parents are now COMFORTable, and they are aware that the school was able to 'read-the-ROOM'.

Disapprove on the Set A and B Class Arrangement

“Simultaneous hosting of class schedules is the ideal and the standard. While the implementation is imposed for the general safety, it does not pose general appeal. The margin for unmet competencies gets higher in this system due to internal inconveniences faced by most learners. All while overlooking mass welfare is the main concern, students are still entitled to feel the short troubles and inconvenience in this instructional framework”

Scholarship Hunt: STEM, Favored

Preparing for the upcoming admissions, the search is on for the upcoming Grade 12 students of Compostela National High School (CNHS) who have been so busy complying the needed requirements to avail the most coveted Academic Scholarship Offers.

According to Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) , during their 2021 second quarter survey, there was little interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among young Filipinos.

This was also cited as one of the reasons why the Philippines is one of the countries in Southeast Asia to innovate last because of Filipinos’ lack of interest for innovation and STEM-related progression.

As a result, doors of opportunities were opened to encourage Filipinos to take STEM Track or STEMrelated college degrees, this includes; scholarship offers, pledges, and incentives in exchange for their service.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholarship is one of the government agencies that offers academic aid to those who are interested in taking the aforementioned track.

“First, ang ilang gi promise jud kay allowances, from book allowance and monthly allowance. Ang ilahang allowance is monthly jud gasulod kay gipabuhat man jud mi nila ug account sa landbank” Sir Jorem Verola, a former DOST Scholar and a current teacher in CNHS stated.

CNHS’ Math Aces Partake in ProbSET 2022

Harnessing mathematical potential and enhancement of critical logic among the learners uplifted Compostela National High School’s selected senior high school learners from Science, Technology and Engineering (STEM) to participate in the Problem Solving and Enrichment Training (ProbSET) Olympiad . The Olympiad materialized last November 19 and 26 via blended modality, with three participants hailing from Compostela National High School namely; Lexie Angely Agopalo, Jane Mamon, and Daniel Marro Castillo, coached by Engr. Jaime Alegado.

from his parents, he was also receiving monetary support from DOST. In addition, pursuant to RA 7687 or Return of Service Condition, upon completion of the Science and Technology course, scholars/graduates are required to render a service to the country, preferably along his/her field of specialization.

“Since that point in my life, my family has experienced financial difficulties which have hindered me and my siblings from attending college. I believe it has an additional advantage

who are from the STEM strand”, Jayson Cagape, STEM 12 student stressed. He also said that everyone can still apply regardless of their track but being a STEM student has a perk since it is essential to possess background and prior knowledge about the field.

“Aware ko nga kasagaran madawat kay STEM pero naa man chance nga madawat ang laing strand so why not diba kay what if makapasar?” Grade 12 HUMSS student, Kervy Cadiente stressed. When asked about the

applications, Cadiente expressed that he did not find it unfair if STEM students are most likely to qualify for the scholarship since they clearly have an advantage considering the DOST’s prioritized courses in college.

On the contrary, there are non-government organizations and foundations who are still open for applicants. This type of scholarship offers do not use SHS tracks in determining acceptance.

Classes takes turn in CNHS: Separation of classes induce adjustments

Adjusting to the new setups were done by students at Compostela national high school on March 7 week after the earthquake happened due to the classrooms that are not safe for the student to use and it causes difficulties for their studies. Their difficulties do not just center on their education but their adjustments to the new classrooms they occupy and the restrictions that they need to follow.

"Given the situation where a series of fortuitous events are recursive, especially earthquakes. In times like this, we have to prioritize the safety of our students

without compromising their learnings" said Ma'am Michelle Dinampo, one of the Grade 10 teachers.

However, for some students this setup is fine and somehow effective. According to Jenny Dane Cabiling, a Grade 12 student who is affected by this set up, it gives them time to rest and do their activities. Despite the need to adjust, they continue to strive for their studies and nevermind the downside.

EIM students occupy Isla Verde

Compostela National High School (CNHS) relocated

Electrical, Installation and Maintenance (EIM) learners to Compostela Central Elementary School SPED Center’s (CCESSC) Isla Verde to ensure that the students learn in a safe and comfortable environment through observing the 1 classroom to 40 students ratio, ideal for classroom setting.

“EIM Advisers reached out to me saying that they find it hard to communicate with students due to overpopulation for the 1 is to 40 ratio was not followed, making it ineffective ,” Ma’am Rosie Villamor, Assistant School Principal exclaimed.

On the other hand, Villamor expressed her heartfelt gratitude to CCESSC’s School Principal 2, Ma’am Ivy Grajo-Yee, EdD and District Superintendent, Ma’am Maroja Belisario, EdD for offering a help and lending the classrooms instead of leaving it empty.

“Entering the Olympiad was a helping tool for the enrichment of our Problem-Solving skills as it encouraged us to learn from the lessons of four different mathematics branches.” Agopalo commented. Castillo and Mamon also added that being around the top students of the prime schools over the country was already such a pleasure and he also takes immense pride with the time they spent and the wisdom they received.

Prior to the event, an intensive 8-week training with coaches from Ateneo de Manila University, trainers from Southern Luzon State University, West Visayas State University, and the Department of Education, Division of Davao de Oro courses throughout the participating schools, wherein CNHS STEM students; Chyrelle Mabe HInampas and Aryenne Ysabelle Rodrigo also tagged along the aforementioned event.

SELECT ricity consumption curtails: CNHS limits usage

Comfortable areas are immensely appreciated by EIM students as they execute electrical technicals - essential for their strands’ application.

Isla Verde was vacated by Bukidnon State University and is within the vicinity of CCESSC, since they have newly constructed buildings, CCESSC offered to have CNHS occupy the one–story building to aid the latter’s need for extra facilities.

To prevent elementary students from going to the now occupied classrooms, CNHS is planning to put barricades to maintain the boundaries between two parties.

“Actually, at first our EIM students were reluctant about their relocation because they felt like they were being abandoned and isolated from their schoolmates,” Villamor stated.

They did not like the new environment at first, however, they tend to manage the kind of learning environment they do have in the said area.

Villamor also added that after experiencing how solemn and effective it is to learn in such an environment, EIM learners do not want to go back to the main campus yet because they started to like their new classrooms..

In addition, EIM’s laboratory is still in the main campus, which is why they are not completely detached and isolated to the CNHS main.

“Isla Verde is for teaching and learning engagements only so they still need to go to CNHS for laboratory,” highlighting how crucial it is for them to focus more on application since their track is centered in skills.

She also reiterated that even though Compostela is bombarded by a series of earthquakes these past few months, the building is in a perfect state --- and that the Municipal Engineering’s Office and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer did not find any cracks in the establishment. The EIM’s students were lucky to be relocated in Isla Verde because their classrooms were not affected by the said earthquake.

For the meantime, CNHS is still pursuing the EIM’s stay in the area since it has been substantiated that EIM learners are really enjoying their stay.

“Lingaw man pud mo diria bisan kami kami ra. Wala man sad mi gipasagdan sa skwelahan kay bisan nabulag mi kay naa man naka stand by nga mga maestro namo, maong ganahan kaau mi mo-eskwela unya inspired pah gyud mi kay hawd kaayo motudlo ang amuang mga teachers,” Karl Vincent Atamosa, EIM student stressed.

He also added that he was thankful for the relocation because it is not included in the Blended Learning Modalities, giving him more time to learn and practice his craft.

CNHS students actively partake on the school’s campaign of minimizing electric consumption by purposely unplugging unnecessary devices.

Compostela National High School (CNHS) lessened electricity usage due to climbing charges resulting in massive conservation of energy inside classrooms.

Per classroom was limited with electricity usage; only two functional electric fans are allowed for utilization, usage of smart tv will only be valid for educational purposes, and charging of phones or any gadgets is also prohibited otherwise it will be confiscated.

Furthermore, according to the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), the school is issued monthly with an estimated figure of around a hundred twentyfive thousand pesos for both Senior and Junior High for electrical load alone.

These efforts were materialized due to the continuous escalation of bills charged to the school’s monthly consumption. The school’s faculty believes that strategic approaches that aim to minimize the financial worries like appointing max operation of utilities can generate long-term benefit to the school’s treasury.

Uniform Controversy

Villanueva to condone specs on banning students not wearing uniform

School Prefect of Discipline, Jose R. Villanueva Jr. refuted speculations of students going home after being prohibited to enter Compostela National High School’s (CNHS) premises due to not wearing complete school uniform.

“Preventing malicious outsiders from entering the school campus is one of the reasons why we encourage students to wear prescribed school uniforms,” said Villanueva in an interview after being asked why these issues are arising despite the mandate of the Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte in accordance with DepEd Order (DO) No. 065, s. 2010.

Villanueva also added that it is the students’ responsibility to wear complete uniform as it was proposed and agreed during the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) general assembly right before the face to face classes were resumed, He stated that the majority of the parents agreed on letting their child wear uniform instead of wearing civilian all throughout the week.

“We are not allowed to prevent the students from entering the campus, we just get their names, list it on the student log book and remind them to wear their uniform next time, but we still let them enter the school. We also just abide by the higher ups in regards to the school rules and regulation,” stated Jay-ar Dehayco, one of the security guards in CNHS.

BEAT ILLITERACY

CNHS looks over reading proficiency

Compostela National High School (CNHS) alongside its advocacy in beating the students’ illiteracy addresses the surfacing rate of non-readers by boosting free reading tutorials and intervention by teachers and student volunteers.

In an effort to bridge the learners' literacy disparities, CNHS intensifies its campaign on amplifying each learners’ reading proficiency. It was instigated that due to the long-runned modular setup, reading capacity of students dropped.

“These reading interventions will bring great benefits to the students to be able to assess their reading capacity. This will also help target nonreaders in every grade level,” stated Ruth C. Janiola, head of this program. Janiola added that in order to improve the reading habit of the students, the school initiated a lot of activities related to reading to boost the interest of the students.

Further, volunteers coming from the different sectors extended their help to fight the battle of reading illiteracy.

Aside from this, there will also be group-screening tests whereas every class section will be facilitated by the advisers, in order to help the students, especially those struggling readers to take remedials and interventions to monitor their improvement in reading.

Moreover, as stated by

Instilling discipline and responsibility to the minds of the students was the objective of the school’s prefect of discipline, Jose Villanueva, together with the SSG adviser, Raul Balidio as they spearhead Highway Linis last October 21, 2022.

"This program, Highway Linis, was fully supported by the school and the Parent-Teacher Association. Students need to be responsible and independent at the same time," Balidio said.

He also stated that about more than 50% classrooms have the 55-inch TV, with the plan of expanding the number of classrooms with the adequately measured TV and complete the remaining insufficiency slowly overtime.

“After the 2 years of implementation, we will conduct a research about the procedure on its effectivity as well as its advantage and disadvantages so that we can also adjust and improve with means of necessary interventions for a much potent implementation,” Sir Jandog declared.

Work ImMISSION: Upskills student on Field

Reinforcing the skills and capabilities of the senior high school grade 12 students through work immersion that starts on May 2, 2023 in different workplaces outside the campus.

With the help of the Local Government Unit (LGU), the work immersion of the students does not have long process and expensive requirements as the teachers request to provide free requirements such as medical certificate and barangay clearance, in this way could lessen the burden of students.

Janiola, one of the factors as to why these students have poor reading ability was manifested upon almost 3 years of no in person classes.

Several reports on nonreaders in both Filipino and English have increased all-throughout the pandemic period.

"I was determined to volunteer here and extend help to the learners in order to help these thriving students and because of my passion in teaching ever since I was little," said Jean Gamalo, one of the student volunteers from Davao de Oro State College (DDOSC).

With the help of social media, Gamalo said in an interview that CNHS encourages volunteers like college students and Local Government Unit (LGU) officials to lend their time in teaching the learners how to read.

“This is a functional modality for students to learn and an avenue for them to catch up from their lackings,” she added.

Not just students can benefit from this program but somehow it helps the teachers as well,” Gamalo stressed.

She also added that this is a great way to check the students' reading and comprehension capacity after two years of being in modular lessons. The transition process is somehow difficult.

On behalf of the teachers and volunteers, CNHS immensely promotes and advocates love for reading and strongly encourages students' to learn and together beat the spiraling illiteracy.

This work immersion leads them to enhance their skills and learn about their specific field. A process to guide them to be better professionals in the near future. Eventually, the student will be exposed and be familiar with the field they are in as it will be enhancing their competence. They will fulfill and win a mission through this work immersion.

He added that to help the students who came late in school, the SSG planned to conduct the said Highway Linis not just only to teach the students about the value of time but to instill discipline and responsibility.

“It is our responsibility to educate the young learners. School is not just an institution wherein they will learn ABCs but this is also a home where they will be disciplined and treated well.

Further, the said program was was also aiming to clean highways and

provide eco-friendly road to travelers. Moreover, Balidio elaborated that the program is not just intended to serve as their punishment but to promote education about how they should value nature.

On the other hand, the school is open to all community activities that will greatly contribute to the holistic development of the studentrs.

Discipline and responsibility should be worn daily thus, teachers must taught these values to thge students.

FUELS: Student-riders

OIL PRICE

hits allowance hurdle

Hefty increase of gasoline heavily affects students of Compostela National High School (CNHS) especially those who owned motorcycle vehicles as their mode of transportation when attending school.

“As a student who is coming from a middle class family, I can say that my experience with the oil price hike is not quite okay. I run a minimum distance of 40 kilometers everyday from home to school and it costs me an equivalent of 1 liter,” said Jereck Illescas,

Additionally, Illescas added that his daily allowance is majorly divided by the cost of gasoline expense making his budget for recess also compromised.

Oil price hike causes serious concern especially to student-riders who travel to school on a daily basis . Regular period of price increase is a hassle and if it doesn’t go down anytime soon, students like Illescas would endure these difficulties.

Hidden Pitfalls of digital assessment: How Paperless Exams Are Leaving Students Behind

With just one click of the remote button—the pressure is on. With the rise of technology in education, paperless exams have become increasingly common in schools and universities. While the convenience of digital assessments may seem appealing, the reality is that they can be a source of stress and frustration for students.

In recent years, many educational institutions have started to embrace the idea of paperless exams. I believe that the idea of taking tests on a computer, tablet especially on television is a crucial and logical step in a world that is becoming increasingly digital.

EarthqWEAK-proof school buildings: Graft in the flesh

School buildings built from 2014 onwards must be compliant with architectural and structural codes stated by the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP), which necessitates structures that can withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake and 250 kph winds. Contrary to just expectations, the magnitude 5.9 earthquake that struck the province of Davao de Oro surfaced the cheat of the supposed-to-be resilient school buildings of Compostela National High School.

Categorized as "new school facilities," the Grade 10 buildings developed minor and major cracks in their walls and floors, and the Grade 9 building and science laboratory are at risk of collapse due to heavy cabinets and equipment. This puts into question the allocation of P650,000.00 per classroom under the DepEd’s School Building Program for the CY 2013 Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF).

SUBSTANDARD— The Municipal Engineering Office (MEO) team, after a thorough inspection, quoted the school buildings as "substandard and needing immediate repair." Furthermore, according to the Department of Education, damages to these structures can be attributed to "poor workmanship and alteration of materials prescribed

Knowing Threads

in the given standard architectural and engineering plans and specifications."

Due to this, CNHS students are displaced from their classrooms, while the consciences of those who are responsible are nowhere to be found. In most similar cases, the investigation of the matter lacks transparency, and public funds continue to feed the pockets of the perpetrators.

Drills do not compensate for incompetence—

School buildings are "essential structures," for they are vital during calamities and emergencies as they can be used as evacuation centers and ensure the continuity of delivering education. While drills help students practice safety measures, school buildings are the foundation and are at the forefront of safeguarding their lives.

Even if Filipinos are considered resilient, no amount of sheer luck or personal strength can excuse them from the corruption that endangers their survival. Speaking of resilience, while this culture enables the temporary empowerment of Filipino identity, it also withdraws the masses from demanding accountability; thereby, giving those in power the perfect excuse for inaction and further exploitation of their vulnerability to blind conformism.

Sewing Competence in Education Loopholes

Persistence of dismayed proficiency has unfortunately become a common theme in the country’s Education system.

As soon as the welcoming of 2023, the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) has been conducting consistent conferences and consultations to realize a comprehensive evaluation of the Philippine education system  I say, is an overdue pitching of motion in the steady incompetence the Filipino learners are forced to endure. Various fora about the reformation of the curriculum made rounds in digital platforms where viewpoints that share total disapproval of the act is a counter to the curriculum’s produced graduates as it promotes unequal lines of experience and polar lessons.

The opposition believes that the undertaking would only set a gap between the current and post learners of the education program for it is an enactment of cutting ties and burning bridges as it is, for a fact mentioned.

While the past holds significance on the present situation, jotting a list of real sequences from the committed flaws of history and taking the initiation of mitigation are necessary procedures to undertake since no one wants to continue the trend of unemployment and scarcity of effective learning exposure.

Learners deserve quality education, and if fate didn't allow such thing for the alumni during their time, perhaps, it does now. According to the Department of Education (DepEd), they have been collaborative in actively

finding ways to review the given K-12 program. DepEd also revealed that the current program is said to be “congested, that some prerequisites of identified essential learning competencies are missing or misplaced, and that a significant number of learning competencies cater to high cognitive demands.”

Another feature to be added is the “Redesigned Kindergarten Curriculum” that aims to readily give rise to “holistically developed literates equipped with 21st century skills.” When in the modern-day context, the connection between seas is fundamental.

Complementing the knowledge and skills development with value development are also enveloped focus on the aspiration as DepEd believes that value formation “strikes a balance between competence and character.” Polarizing this sense is also deemed necessary when aiming for virtue harnessing and awareness.

Complementing the knowledge and skills development with value development are also enveloped focus on the aspiration as DepEd believes that value formation “strikes a balance between competence and character.” Polarizing this sense is also deemed necessary when aiming for virtue harnessing and awareness.

Another notable result from the study is the slack on the teachers’ end, where “only few teachers reported having adequate time to teach all learning competencies” The grounded conclusion are testaments the corruption of learning are also

Moreover, mitigation precedes damage assessment. The immediate and responsive local government efforts are not enough to supplement the needs of an earthquake-resilient school. It is the collaboration of the branches of government offices and systemic change that sustainably resolves disaster-related impacts. The Philippines' geographical location is the primary reason for requiring infrastructure, especially schools, to be designed to resist strong earthquakes and super typhoons. Damages to CNHS’ school buildings brought to light that many new school facilities fail to comply with the NSCP’s standards. This serves as physical evidence of graft at the expense of the students' lives. To restore and maintain public trust, the government must be unreserved in sharing all information involving public funds, actively seek and condemn corruption, and be pro-people, pro-environment, and pro-sustainability in their policy-making. And whether people wait for casualties from the nonexistent earthquake-proof school facilities or keep those in authority in check, their choice determines the fate of our future—the next generation of Filipinos.

However, while the intention behind paperless exams is to make the process more efficient and streamlined, the reality is that it is often a major source of the problem rather than to solve the problem that they are addressing, and I strongly opposed to the idea of changing the system into more digitized as it is what they called as, 'the new normal that the students are not ready for.'

One of the main challenges of paperless exams is the technical difficulties that can arise. Internet connectivity issues, computer glitches, and software malfunctions can disrupt the exam and cause students to lose valuable time.

Another issue with paperless exams is the lack of flexibility they provide. With traditional paper exams, students have the ability to skip questions, go back and review their work, and even change their answers if they have a change of heart.

With digital exams, however, these options are limited, if not impossible. This lack of flexibility can lead to anxiety and even a lower score especially that every student is not alike, some have high capacity in terms of thinking skills while others do not have. In addition, the time limit could actually create turmoil to the students because paperless exams should have time and estimated limits, it also takes a lot of time and effort for the students and especially for the teachers.

Thus, this type of exam is not efficiently effective as this could result in more hassle and stress for the students.

Moreover, there is also the issue of cheating. While there is no denying that paperless exams can offer greater security and prevent cheating in some ways, it is also true

hacked on the educators themselves. The rationale behind the reformation is an easy concept, yet it does take an adjustment. And the adjustment is not that easy. Loopholes can be created as teaching gap will be a matter of issue.

Warming up to the idea may be an awkward phase to effectuate, but in those awkward times comes the dawn of progression. Arranging ways to pacify the hassle is stern and it has to be realized as soon as possible.

The faults of the past curriculum has to be forgiven and the right to achieve the deserved environment for wisdom has been out the window for too long and it is about time that we embrace it inside our school’s premises.

Afterall, the learners, the educators and the community are the general victims of this fraud. Why not forge threads of improvement in the system and let loopholes conceal in memory?

In the times where poverty weakens the poor, the small cab called tricycles became their compass. In a coin that a driver held through his trip, it is a million worth that provides for their necessity.

Tricycles are a savior for the masses especially for students that could only pay cheaper fare. If modernization will be implemented, higher pays will be asked. To remove the tricycles is like degrading the poor.

Being a third world country, the issue of poverty continues to rise with over 5.6 million families living - inflation rate arises even since pandemic. Rather than solving poverty, modernizing should not be a priority.

To improve the country does not mean to add more new vehicles, but to hear the cries of its people. Filipinos do not have to change everything. In the middle of hardships, modernization cannot solve it, instead it thrust the poor to the worst.

Poor tricycle drivers are suffering from this sudden shift of modernization. the rise of pedicabs

cheat.

For instance, students with near chairs could actually discuss the answers on every number, and they could track each other's answers especially when the questions that are flashing on the screen are the same, and they have a big chance to cheat because it is too convenient for them. Unlike for the traditional exams, students who tend to cheat could actually lose track of the answers of the other student.

Finally, there is the psychological impact of paperless exams. Students who are used to taking exams on paper may feel a sense of disorientation and discomfort when they are forced to use technology.

Furthermore, the pressure of performing well on an exam can be heightened when the technology involved is unfamiliar or unpredictable. While paperless exams may seem like a step forward in education, they often create more problems than they solve. The issues of technical difficulties, lack of flexibility, cheating, and psychological impact must be taken seriously and addressed by institutions that are implementing paperless exams. Until then, students will continue to struggle with this new reality of taking exams on screens instead of on paper.

Students who are used to taking exams on paper may feel a sense of disorientation and discomfort when they are forced to use technology. Furthermore, the pressure of performing well on an exam can be heightened when the technology involved is unfamiliar or unpredictable. Indeed, going green and modernization is not always an option, as it makes the students wander into a faster paced world, and being lost in the middle of a world full of digital disarray and they cannot surely keep up, it clearly shows how paperless exams are hurting and leaving students behind.

pave way to the

abolishment of the old mode of transportation that was once used by many. There is nothing wrong with progress, however, there are many individuals, just like the tricycle drivers, who will be affected.

There is a great difference of the income that they do have now compared to the income of the modern vihecles.

If the government has the courage to phase out the affordable vehicle for everyone, they should be replacing them with no payment in exchange.

They can also blend the new vehicle without removing the tricycles. Instead of prioritizing removing the tricycles, they should mind about helping the poor and empowering culture. Filipinos should ride the trip of those tricycles rather than having a tip for a modern way to have.

According to hitm, reducing subjects may help to reform the reading comprehension of students as well as to focus on Math. I strongly believe that the concept of integration of AP and MAPEH will be more difficult to adopt since it can disrupt the educational basis. As intended to elevate the comprehension of the students instead, it will not infiltrate to its objectives yet can consummate the opposite and I cannot deny that some of the essential pieces of learnings and education will be altered and, in

Clarity above Discrepancy

Stemmed from unrealistic beauty standards is mankind’s subjective perception that cemented the beholder’s prejudicial verdict. Whilst, it is not anymore, an open secret that people who are perceived conventionally attractive are given a different kind of liberty and acceptance --- Still, denying its existence is a form of tolerance that unconsciously promotes systemic bias.

Compostela National High School has a long list of rules and regulations to follow that aims to create a conducive learning environment. Accompanied by the posted signages, we are conditioned to abide by the same clothing styles and patterns. This includes not bailing out the Dress Code. Though, this has been the subject of controversy for it infringes the students’ freedom of expression, it is generally created as a blueprint for us to withstand.

In addition, complaints resurfaced as there have been countless incidents of accusation of violated Dress

Code. Students express their sentiments in a public social media post as they find it unjust and one-sided, for they have noticed a major discrepancy in terms of the rule’s enforcement.

According to the thread, goodlooking and popular students are granted a gate-pass to enter the vicinity without sweat --- just by using their charm and connections. Students have long been bothered by this treatment because of its repetitive application, inducing them to squeeze out their frustrations online.

The lived experiences of students from different batches who also shared their unpleasant encounters are the intangible proof that this has been going on for years. That particular online interaction served as the whistle-blower to reveal the incorrect use of authority.

Putting the school guards on the brink of losing their conviction. Though it has been the device to reveal the rotting system, the misappropriate usage of online

worst cases, it will dissipate resulting to a considerable catalyst to the overall aspects.

It is notable that AP is an essential subject since it serves as one of the foundations of ethics and integrity. Through its paces, AP can educate the students regarding social works on society, discipline, human connections and community functions which represents a decorum on humanity. On the other hand, MAPEH is also an integral part of education wherein can emphasize and enhance skills, abilities and life practices of a student. It is undeniable that MAPEH can make the education lively, fun and interesting which appropriately attributes to the needs and interests of a student.

ntegration of both subjects can result in alteration and changes especially in AP. Without it, the conceptual framework of AP such as educating community functions, social works and integrity will be altered and in worst cases, it will defunct. It cannot penetrate to wholesome individuals.

However, AP and MAPEH have different stereotypes of education, they are not similar in terms of objectives and have different logical footsteps. Integrating them may only cause confusions particularly in the mindset of young learners. They cannot justify yet have the difficulty to adopt in large frequencies.

platforms should also be condoned. Public feedback will only add fuel to the fire, as their involvements contribute to the aftermath of the deliberation. This will only stain the image of the school and the complainant.

Instead of addressing the issues online, carelessly calling out the people involved, this concern should be directed to the school. CNHS provides a safe space to let the voices of the students be hteard. Through asking the Supreme Student Government’s assistance to directly file a formal protest, this matter would have not been made as an appetizer for less concerned individuals.

Though the influence of physical attributes create an impact as to how people view a certain person --It should not be a sole determinator in making informed decisions, and that everyone should be given equal opportunities regardless of their external appearance. Above all, the unofficial mantra of every learning institution is clarity above discrepancy.

Terror of the Wheels

Screams and shouts were silently heard when the issue of missing persons being kidnapped and killed howls loudly that vibrates fear to the people. No place is safe when danger occupies it. Various crimes are everywhere with different unknown suspects.

Kidnapping is now a major issue and prominent in roads and highways. I strongly believe that roads and highways are now a dangerous zone especially to

the young ones despite that the crimes are rapidly increasing. Numerous cases of kidnapping and crimes arise than before just like what happened recently at Brgy. Maparat. Last April 23 around 9:40 PM, the two anonymous teenagers were blocked along the desolate road by the white van as they were walking home. They elaborated that the van consists of eight men and thus they devoured and attempted to kidnap the two teenagers, however, they went to

safety without any harm.

Victims may speak, but fear was silent. If this continues to appear, these cases will prolong the kidnappings on the streets and the terrors on the physical and mental status of the individuals.

Strengthening the security will so much be helpful in lessening the kidnapping incidents as well as the responsibility of individuals to get awareness and not being alone at road and highways during night.

Extracurricular activities have been part of the history of the educational system in the Philippines since then and it has been showcasing their talents through engaging these skillful and learnful activities such as sports, festival of talents, and press conferences. Banning extracurricular activities is being issued due to the reduction of class hours, teachers working beyond teachers work overtime, and the unnecessary increase of pressure for students.

Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte announced that traditional school activities would not push through this school year, telling teachers to focus on academics instead. I firmly believe that this decision would be very effective on the aim of lessening the hardship of both teachers and students. In fact, extracurricular activities can do nothing about a student's grades in school

According to the DepEd Order no. 034, series of 2022 that suggests that the conduction of extracurricular activities is strictly prohibited. This represents to teachers and other teaching personnel to avoid impedance of the performance of their work and teaching responsibilities.

Consequently, the two-year break is the indication of stepping-up the curriculum and investing in academics, rather than to extracurricular practices as it just does nothing, but adds superfluous pressure to both teachers and students.

Ensuring their academic recovery is vital for the students' learning capabilities and teachers' teaching proficiencies. Through the extraction of the extracurricular activities, the road will be clear for the academic success of both students and teachers.

Opportunity Over Possibility

As an old adage says "A wellrounded education is a must."

However, professionals has distance they need to take as they have the opportunity waiting for them abroad hence the time goes by, teachers became the channel of resiliency and compassion. Teachers with unending patience can make a significant difference in their students' lives. I believe that teachers are the foundation of learning and development, they serve as guiding lights and influence.

Controversy uncovered the realities when some teachers in CNHS decided to work abroad due to the low wages. Hence, the Philippine Statistics Authority recorded 2.2 million overseas workers, nine percent or an estimated 207,000 are Filipino professionals. Teaching abroad helps teachers to immerse themselves in another culture and observe the globe. Also, it is the beginning of a worldwide trip unlike any other in terms of travel, cultural exchange, and personal enrichment.

Moreover, the law states that LGBTQ rights are human rights - have the rights to explore normally, however, this quite contrary in CNHS since they strictly forbid following the rules mended by the school.

LGBTQ are influencing every corridor of the community, especially the school. Some schools like Ateneo, UP, and USEP are open in LGBTQ yet allowing them to settle with liberty, peace and love. In this case, CNHS should allow and embrace the LGBTQ to provoke exquisitely join the bandwagon

Devoid rainbow stain is what society should see the LGBTQ community. Outsmarting the Cameras

Meeting Mr. Fake it till you "almost" make it

GenZ clout chaser is still out

Photoshopping images, plagiarizing academic work using search engines, downloading pirated films—anyone with internet access can execute tools for malicious purposes in mere seconds. Devoured by the pessimistic structure of social media, students in particular are obsessed with perfecting their superficial profiles in the virtual world.

As I scroll down my Facebook news feed, people post pictures and status updates they want to share about themselves.

But no matter how flawless their personal lives may seem, it is only a part of their reality—and I ought to remember that all of us have the autonomy to select the pieces of our facade, which I respect and acknowledge.

However, how does one discern the accuracy of online information given that tools are readily available for deception?

While thousands of (positive) likes, shares, and comments can be appealing to the eye, they cannot be a basis for validating the legitimacy of a post—I, a fact-checker, relearned this the hard way.

"No one (a young Filipino student) in their right mind would dare to fool the public by committing forgery for fame," I hesitantly convinced myself as I read through the contents of a viral Facebook post. With the harsh "cancel" culture,no kind of temporary social acceptance can prepare or repel the backlash of fraud.

My doubt soon dissipated when big names and leading news outlets recognized his made-up story. Similarly invited to a fancy event, we both enjoyed fully-funded and sponsored plane tickets (with our family), luxurious hotel accommodations, food, and an exclusive tour of the wealthiest city in the Philippines. And no trace of guilt can be seen in his demeanor, as he engaged with prominent people with his fake and sketchy persona.

TO make matters worse, he continues to accommodate interviews, and his family even invited a highly respected personality for a video message, to which the personality responded with great enthusiasm by visiting him personally at his own home. In disbelief, I, along with the personalities and persons involved in the event, were privately informed by a trusted affiliate about his deceit. It felt like a scene in a movie, and I was incredibly amused that he got this far—well, he almost conned everyone.

Devoid of his reality, I contemplated the motivation of his actions. This student revealed the defects of our generation’s exposure to technology and the pressure of leading an impossible aesthetic life. Like every Gen Z kid, he is also a victim of this era’s societal expectations to be self-absorbed by designing the system to profitably target our vulnerability.

Alarmingly, under our noses, students can perform similar practices if left without guidance. Tolerating Mr. Fake it until he "almost" makes it will not bode well if we are to set an example of digital ethics for the young generation. He, along with others, might still fool the netizens while avoiding the consequences, but just as fast and widespread their popularity gains, they are always one misstep away from a much swifter and fatal repercussion of hate and isolation that extends from one’s lifetime.

Essentials versus Extravagance

UnENDing Alteration of Classroom Essentials

Extravagance due to being

Indecisive – Looking up above the walls of a regular classroom in Compostela National High School, you are fronted by well-furnished walls of educational materials. Fostering a room filled with charts, info-graphics, personal necessities, and student records without a doubt helps in decorating and informing the students about the school and the education curriculum of the Philippines. Yet, in the past months of this school year, a fuss outbreaks that woke the dormant teachers as the Department of Education (DepEd) keeps on altering the requirements for the desired perfection towards Classroom Essentials.

Changing of the list of requirements helps keep on date to the new changes of the education system. However, this adds strain towards the educators from cost to physical work. This left the educators to bypass their wage as they needed to produce personally the essentials needed; from purchasing big tarpaulins to printing classroom and school guidelines with the use of countless bond papers and inks.

Adding up the physical work that the teachers and the students exert;

Paid Volunteerism

Education over monetization

Rooted in capitalism and incessant usage of money as a means of survival. Even attainment of education in public institutions’ still requires an ample amount of money just for learners to receive a bare minimum type of education — where resources are limited and instructional materials are inadequate.

Undeniable it is really exhausting to glue up the charts up above the walls and to find out later that the list of requirements are not the same anymore. Thus, means that the work of the educators and us students who helped needs to be removed or should be revised.

On top of that, most of the materials being posted are not that actually relevant to the students, more likely they don’t read and mind it, all just embodying the word beautification. Some materials are just falling apart and left untreated, ending up piling on trash bins, wasting pocket money.

Though, it is vital and more appealing to the eye when we see a well embellished classroom as it feels more engaging and fun to learn with, but the educators appeal that it needs to be EXACT and FINAL for cost and work needs time to earn and do.

It is antagonising how this immersion program should have allowed students to gain important knowledge and skills.. How can we hone our potential for our prospective possible job if this opportunity for us to learn is also a struggle for us to omit.

Work Immersion for grade 12 students is a prerequisite to comply in order to complete the 2 years Senior High School program of the Department of Education (Dep-Ed). It requires 800 hours equivalent to 10 days of On-the Job Training to comply within 2 weeks. . Some students with unstable financial resources just opted to choose the available workplace where there is no need to spend a penny — this screams how we are much conditioned to opt for the bare minimum because the system pushed us to do so. Years of debating whether the Senior High School is really beneficial or just added cost of money which is a burden to the majority mulls

over the truth in these circumstances. Revival of in-person immersion year should have served as a gut process to cut off some slack to the learners and alleviate expenses as it is just a starting point of the once again new curriculum guide of Dep-Ed. However, this entails problem when it comes to finance as the students need to budget their allowances for the fare and other expenses.

It is undeniable in the whole country how most of the set-upped rules are anti-poor and pushed the margins in the society rendered powerless. Government owned education system should be served free and unconcealing, regardless of the status of students enrolled within these institutions.

It is the unreasonable persistence of the crappy system that tolerates this to resurface once again. Opposing the accustomed practices, students should be given an ease and cut-off requirements that sets them at cost.

As students walk down the hallways, they are under the watchful eyes of CCTV cameras, silently recording their every move and have left them feeling vulnerable and exposed about the incident beyond the supposed safety net and surveillance - recently, there have been numerous reports of stealing issues in CNHS (Compostela National High School), despite the presence of numerous CCTV cameras in the campus premises.

School administration had installed these cameras to deter theft and other criminal activities, however, I strongly believe that CCTVs are not useful enough since they are not effective in preventing incidents of theft.

According to the school institute, incidents of stealing have been happening in different parts of the school. Students have reported missing items such as phones, wallets, and valuable belongings.

It is such a sobering realization despite the school’s best efforts to prevent. It was clear that there is no easy solution to the problem of theft in schools. But, by working together and taking serious approach to security, it would surely dissolve the issue.

Even in the midst of a pandemic, there may be things that change but this action respects the pride therefore the flag ceremony will be held despite being separated. Not attending flag ceremonies does not carry unfaithfulness to the land.

I believe that implementing a face to face flag ceremony must be done continually as this shows respect and loyalty to our beloved country. Despite the increasing of COVID-19 cases, there are still numerous ways to prevent this from spreading. Thus, teachers, students, school staff and workers should give their full-cooperation and participation. Even though during flag ceremony, each grade level is separated, that should not be the hindrance to suddenly stop face-to-face flag ceremony instead, this could also be one of the ways to avoid being affected of COVID. People can show their patriotism not minding where they are. Fettle than be flamed

Nosebleeds and unwell feelings - currently experienced by students while they continue to go to school and have their classes. In the midst of challenges that students encounter especially this summer, heat became a huge factor. Sweats flowed as they strove hard on studying in a room that made them feel like hell. Despite the education to continue, they should be more free than be flamed by the heat that disturbs their learning environment.

Heat is not just the thing that contributes to the thought of bringing back the pre-pandemic school calendar. I consider the problem to be encountered on returning the schedule but I believe that it would be better for the sake of the students as they should have classes that start in June and end in April to avoid further accidents of students due to weather conditions. I have felt the heat in a way that I relate it to the students who are in a room that is filled with hotness and not having enough supplies to lessen it. Students are at risk of a lot of illnesses at this time, specifically heatstroke and dehydration. Moreover, there is a limit of 50 students each room while only having approximately two electric fans is not even enough for them. Even if they ask for more appliances such as electric fans and even air conditioning, most of the schools could not provide it. If they will, it could be more dangerous for them as it brings the risk of fire.

Aside from heat, there are also more hindrances that could stops the classes on summer. With the effect of the pandemic, there are a lot of factors that are affected and the schedules are even changed. Yet, it does not change the activities in such religion, usually this time, there are a lot of activities that are held such as religious practices like Flores de Mayo. There will be no longer children who can participate in this activity. Also, despite the summer season, the weather continues to be unpredictable and causes disturbance of classes. In addition, this month is the best season to harvest in which the children will not be a student but a farmer. In this way, they are able to help their families with the responsibility and income. There could be a lot of better things to do in this time than being tortured by the heat inside the room.

of their right to privacy and may result in legal consequences. There is a fine line between pitik photography and traditional photography. Pitik photography captures moving subjects with a flick of the finger, and is often associated with candid street photography. However, it raises ethical concerns about privacy and consent, as subjects may be photographed without their knowledge. In contrast, traditional photography builds a relationship with the subject and obtains their permission. Both styles differ in approach to subject matter, technique, and ethics, and it is important to consider the ethical implications of the images we capture and treat our subjects with respect.

According to PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Service Administration), they stated that 70% chance that people could have heat stroke with most of the temperature on days are getting higher 50 degrees Celsius so they provide advices on how to avoid it such as drinking more water and less sun exposure. In one school in Laguna, there are more than 100 students who collapsed as they performed fire drills. DepEd (Department of Education) allows schools to decide if they will suspend the classes when it is already affecting their learning environment.

In different corners of the country, it is undeniable how the heat is affecting different aspects. Students are supposed to have their vacation and rest. A lot of factors are affected and times change because of the weather condition. Driving back the school calendar may be a difficult process but a better solution to have no further dramas. Classes don’t disturb heat, heat disturb classes..in a way, that it is not healthy anymore.

With all the voices that scream suggestions, it should be heard. There are two options in returning the class calendar: Less time of vacation for students or to cut off the schedule. And as of now blended learning or shortened periods are also the option. In this kind of condition, students need medical assistance all the time to maintain their health. Despite this heat that barriers the students’ learning, they need to fettle than be defeated by a flame that may burn their education.

Uniformity for Unity

Implementation of school uniforms has been gaining popularity worldwide due to its numerous benefits. By adopting a standardized dress code, schools can create a more inclusive and equal environment. The world of fashion often fosters competition and judgment among students, leading to potential issues like bullying. School uniforms eliminate this pressure by promoting unity and reducing social disparities. Additionally, I conclude that uniforms contribute to safety and security on campus by easily identifying individuals who do not belong, thus mitigating the risk of violence and other criminal activities.

Furthermore, I strongly believe that uniforms help alleviate the financial burden on parents.

Shifting towards school uniforms is a positive step towards creating a safer and more inclusive school environment. It is important to periodically review the dress code to ensure that it remains relevant and reflective of the changing times. Overall, by promoting uniformity for unity, I strongly supposed that we can create a school culture that fosters respect, discipline, and academic excellence.

As for Jef, the rush of the event is a trigger force — abrupt as a lightning bolt, he’s out and about in the canteen stalls with a gameplan of serving his best chow at a prompt chase.

In the fast lane is where he peaks, that 15-minute margin intended for recess break calls his grace for his side duties. As a son of a canteen vendor, Jefperson Balaod, a Grade 10 learner attends to assist his mother during the reels of recess. This is no wonder, when it comes to their menu’s best-seller, Kwek-kwek!

That same, familiar vibrance of orange spheres jumpstarts Jef’s service as it pins the attention of the many. Their business thrives with this favorite Pinoy staple as it shares that sharp taste of real Filipino goodness touched with Jef’s and his mother’s twist! Bundle by bundle, their kiosk is full within a few moments from the initial ring of the recess bell, hinting the mass crave for their Kwek-kwek delight.

Though usually settled in congested chambers, he gladly operates in these terms as it exchanges profit beneficial for his family. “I don’t really mind the busy crowd, I’m already used to it. I don’t take it against any bother, otherwise, the spacious our stall, the worrisome we get from net loss.” Stressed Jef.

Acting quick-paced is his ace as the gatherings of learners are speedy as well. As to Jef, the challenge of this timecrunch acts as his teacher that coaches him to work efficiently under other circumstances that demands the same ratio of no-delay and real speed. Most similarly with his due assignments and school projects, the aspects of efficient time management and ideal skill concentration are put into great consideration for these are acquired manners from Jef’s time spent during his recess sidelines.

Jef could have dedicated his time delving into digital hobbies that are popular amongst his peers like playing Mobile Legends or participate into the latest dance craze taking storm in Tiktok, yet Jef remained reserved with his mature understanding towards their business venture and paused on any inlets of peer FOMO. His persistence to continue his work of aid is truly a pleasant sight to see.

Goal-orientation is the universal determinant to reap the rewarding lumps of labor, and Jef learned it the 15-minute way. By lending help to his mother, he takes shape in bodying commitment and support. Simple in its form, his Kwek-kwek vending bridges a macro effect on his daily functions as it is a two-tailed advantage pole, as the act helps his mother and the

Beyond the academic realm, Jef is likewise an achiever to other surfaces. At some point, it may appear as though rigid, but short minutes to a learner like Jef, he’s bound to curate productivity. Kwek-kwek, tiny orange balls that pay you minimum change, much to pay the cost of Jef’s routinely canteen marathon in his own brand, prepared with a charge of keenness.

Up above, is the staggering stone carved in respect of the National Hero. A depiction of Dr. Jose Rizal, who defended the Filipino generations from the surge of extermination exactly 133 years ago. Below, are the generations of he who safeguarded during his lifetime, hands over their heads, eyes shut closed. At a chorus of fear, one mirrors that a modern hero, gelled with no restraint, led her fellows against what is yet, another surge of parallel extermination.

Like a tornado of collective fright, the school heard echoes of terror in its corridors. A dramatic face was let lived at the grounds of CNHS where students scream for their lives in the chilling midst of an acute Earthquake that lasted a few moments-short for further ruins. Wrecked in emotional distress, CNHS sounded eerie, except for she, who stood mighty.

Carrying the weight as a forefront commando is an intimidating position to take and a pair of wide shoes to fit, albeit, it’s no cause for misfit. Though falling into the petite category, her physique is no deficiency as her vigor for genuine leadership under intense pressure is already a tall feat to defeat.

This Grade 10 SPJ learner spearheaded the evacuation tail of her section under intimate monitoring of every individual. Caught in the untimely corruption of the earthquake, Angel Maceda is urged to allow the manifestation of camaraderie and leadership through her initiation. Taking a leap of faith in the scenario, she took vulnerability as though only a state of mind and carried on with her quest.

Similar to the primary conduct of our heroes’ honor are the selfless and attested concern for mass welfare, such is where Angel Maceda’s dignity also lies. At the height of the panic and spiral of confusion, Angel withstood teases of cowardice and took the baton of leading her classmates to safe arenas.

A mega 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake shook the disposition of the masses as the sudden occurrence of the event accentuated the humble afternoon of March 7, 2023. Even then, Angel presents herself unfazed by the happening as her steadfast character ignites her spirit over taking her underlying creeps. This heroic attribute dawned the safety and wellbeing of everyone thanks to her uncontested will.

The dynamic of Angel’s outstanding superintendence overthrew the crippling spook injected by the unfortunate circumstance. Shedding light to the dark atmospheres and symbolized hope in the form of solid appeal.

Not all heroes are preserved in hard carved stones as homage to their celebrated influence, for some, a still photograph speaks volume to the highlights of their valiant community efforts. Many consider her as a modern hero, for when at the wake of the quake, are they adorned by an Angel (Maceda) here on earth.

Dear Papa,

Are you busy?

I hope you’re free. I’m outside, beneath the shades of green, from the same tree you were lying back in ‘03. Blowing are the conditioners of fresh air, you told me it’s good for the lungs, I feel comfy here, genuine, and happy, can I stay here for a while?

Why is that?

You’re arching your brows yet again. Did it bother you? So much of a memory to baffle you, huh. Again, with the reoccurring scenes of the past you subconsciously rewind does it suggest you haven’t moved on. Was it me?

Did it scare you?

When the lines were two. Perhaps it showed itself as a shock to you. Surprise! Though a smile didn’t curve your lips, it drowned instead. Because at that moment you knew, all weren’t just through.

Down I go.

It wasn’t easy for you, I know. Need not to tell a lie, I heard a cry. You were bound to call me by your name, too bad, the opportunity might have slipped, it missed. Then goes a deep sigh, a little teary and shy.

You were selfless for catering my future into a thoughtful perspective. Thank you for not bringing me into a world under harsh turns and scarce terms. For actually putting me first, knowing the situation , that I’ll grapple too.

But the strings don't end here. Let's keep in touch. I’ll visit you in your dreams, and write you mails for us to share in these sheets of paper parts. Now Finish your pending assignments, they are almost due. Keep

“G Diaries” a television program hosted by Gina Lopez; a Filipina environmentalist captivated the budding quirks of a 15-year-old currently untangling personal discovery. Growing fond of the segment’s engagement, Aryenne sought connection with nature, and with the call for environmentalism which benchmarked the stand of her core.

Looking at the context of her hometown and her direct locale, Aryenne connected dots and concluded that serious help is in grave need for environmental conservation, and project attention. Claiming the potential for geothermal energy in her home province, Davao de Oro, Aryenne aims at the idea of having the province transition from fossil fuels to renewable resources.

Of scorching heat and painful sun rays is a levered foot pedal that fuels a heart from burning.

Maneuvering his 3 wheeled vehicle is a day added to his lived life. With a bottled water in hand, he can wander around the wonders, with a 10peso fare to compensate his service.

Stuck between hopping in to help make ends meet and walking away out of pity because of our doubled body weight --- is a conscious effort to avoid them in the highway. How ironic . We sympathize yet are scared to encounter them halfway.

man stopped. “Asa ka gang?” screams heaven and finally. At last, after gas lighting myself that walking is a healthy exercise --- I can now take off my mask.

I was never a fan of walking, jogging, running ---- every action word that ends with –ing.

I immediately told him where I was headed to. Though I was a bit reluctant because of the fact that I was riding a trisikad (a bicycle with a mounted sidecar), I shoot my shot. I stared at my wristwatch and found out that I was still 20 minutes away from the call time.

Sigh --- “I will get there in time”, I said to myself. I did not notice that the driver was paying attention to me for like a

“Pasensya na kayo gang, tiguwang naman gud si tatay”, he muttered. I was not expecting that response from him. I was taken aback and at some point, I felt guilty. It seems like I was pushing him to his limits. All throughout the ride, he gave me a glimpse of his life.

Tatay Damiano Dela Cruz is a 70-yearold trisikad driver residing at P-9 Poblacion, Compostela, Davao de Oro. He is a widowed man and a father of 4. His children are all married except for his youngest daughter who is currently studying. Alone in his amakan home, he had no choice but to get up for he still has grandchildren to support financially.

flashes a smile and softly say, “Okay ra gang, laban para sa mga apo”. I teared up a little. How great of a man he is --- a superhero without a cape. Going back to reality, we almost tripped because of the hump. That was when my reflection stopped. I scanned my surroundings and realized that I was near my destination. When I got there, I hopped off his trisikad. I was about to hand him my fare when I noticed his slightly burnt calloused hand. I was about to say thank you when he gave me the 10peso change. I swiftly told him, “Diha rana tay”. And he replied in his weak voice, “Ayaw ra gang, diyes-pesos raman jud pliti basta trisikad”

*Sigh* How ungrateful am I?

Navigating through the crammed maze of hesitant daze, birthed the assembly of a passion project that resonated with her state of affairs and woes. Mustering the valor that spined the backbone of her vision was the ground of her glittering pasarela walk. Alongside with the glamor of the other bets, the stage set ablaze with the fiery charm and long perspective, where beauty and grit comes undivided.

At the very stage of Ginang ng Davao de oro, evinced the testament of her response to community issues. Speaking up and amplifying the possibility of literary rescue.

“Write for a Single Right,” led by CNHS’ Special Program in Journalism Coordinator, Ma’am Excell Visitacion-Balinas, took the pageant not only for its gleam but for a purpose — of stretching her advocacy. Project Journalism on the Go (JOG) pans the limelight to sole mothers. With the project pointing focus as to empowering Single Moms through Journalism and Media Literacy, Project JOG appeals to widening the safe havens of single mothers in the community.

Project JOG, wasn’t a point of singularity, but took compilations of arranged ideals to the exposition that it is today. Emancipating marginalized women and encouraging them in the name of Journalism.

The project is in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) with partner journalists writing articles about women empowerment. The project is also amplified through the booms and speakers of tapped local radio stations where Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) students can hold their immersions, broadcasting segments about news and current affairs as well as a comprehensive tackle on women empowerment.

“My main purpose is to create a community wherein all single mothers will be loved and respected because the path they are traveling is not simple,” Balinas shared. As a single mother herself, the unsaid discrepancy and unfair judgment towards parents like her are common observations exercised in the community. And as a woman with dignity and grace, Balinas aims to rehabilitate the customary and break walls from within, for “it is a path fitted only for the strong.”

A path only made for the strongest of faith. Providing space spaces for women her age. Celebrating motherhood for bearing the weight twice the accustomed marriage. Her story is a testament that single parenthood are not for the weak. Indeed, an EXCELLent pedagogue. Words are futile devices. Welcoming the age of inclusivity champions the purpose of change. Reconditioning the essence of literary texts for a significant cause, banks on the benefit of everyone. Single mothers are unsung heroes that hold the cradle of the future and the upcoming. It is of great privilege to witness and contribute to this chain — of curing insecurity.

I AM Garbage IdeNtifier App: Harnessing AI technology for Greener Rural Communities

COMPOSTELA, DAVAO DE ORO—one of the most flood-prone municipalities in the country—the issue of solid waste management has been one of the biggest factors in the occurrence of rising water levels brought on even by moderate rain. According to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, schools are the second highest waste-generating sector, next to agriculture, which produces 785.77 kg of waste per day.

"Students really do not know how to segregate their solid waste," Analita D. Arrocena, Solid Waste Management Organization Chairman of Compostela National High School, said. Efforts to raise awareness of proper waste segregation have been robust in the past few years, but all of them have been futile, as seen from the lack of individual responsibility among students and clogged drainage systems.

Unable to classify their own waste, the I AM Garbage IdeNtifier App guides Android users to properly segregate their waste into 4 classifications, namely: biodegradable, recyclable, residual (can no longer be used or recycled), and special waste (hazardous and toxic substances). Using artificial intelligence, a simulation of human intelligence in technology, the app identifies the waste classification of the picture and provides an accuracy percentage and information on the recognized classification.

Free Datasets

In collaboration with the CNHS Robotics Adviser, STEM students of Compostela National High School, and volunteers, the Brigada Eskwela 2023 clean-up drive marked the beginning of the datasets, a collection of waste items, for training a model of I AM GINA.

Uploading and annotating almost a thousand waste pictures, the app development provided little to no cost as it only required manpower and patience to train the AI model of the app—providing an avenue for large-scale adoption.

However, to attain a high level of app accuracy, a challenge is attached, as waste pictures come in various angles and shapes, like crumpled paper, broken bottles, and deformed plastics. This requires a large dataset to accommodate the broad scope of human-generated waste.

Currently, with six models trained in the span of 5 months, the most efficient I AM GINA model calls upon crowdsourcing, collecting online waste pictures from the public, to supplement the gap in datasets.

Eco-Smart Trash Bins

CNHS Robotics, led by Sir Marvin Joseph Fernandez, developed the I AM GINA app-controlled smart trash bins that automatically open the correct waste bin via HC-05 Bluetooth Communication, a Bluetooth module, once the garbage has been identified.

Combining creativity and resourcefulness, the smart trash bins are built from recyclable materials—discarded plywood, used big buckets, and torn tarpaulins. Moreover, the bins are painted with minions carrying information about each waste classification, also known as Gina’s minions, to highlight the team’s love for the “Despicable Me” movie.

Furthermore, other features, such as the manual push button with voice response feature for people without phones and the full bin indicator that shows a red light when the trash must be taken out, are added to the smart trash bins to accommodate the needs of users who don’t have access to the mobile application.

Greener Digital Rural Communities

Although the possibilities for smart trash bins are endless, limited financial resources have drawn the line on

ChatGPT: Boon or Bane?

Every hustle becomes hassle-free when you do not even feel the need to lift a finger. Now that we are at the apex of the information age --- information is said to be at the tip of our fingertips. With face recognition’s existence, data itself is the tip of our fingers.

Click! A massive advancement took place in 2019 when facial recognition technology dethroned the fingerprint system. When it was introduced, the first thing we did was the test of accuracy --- whether true to its claims, it matches against depth information that will acquaint the beholder, or everything was all just a hoax.

Face ID is a pain! It acts like it recognizes everyone. Yet, beneath the external screen lies the software who manipulates the digital bane. If we integrate Face ID to ChatGPT, an Artificial Intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI --- they share the same keenness.

Released in 2022, Artificial Intelligence continues to exhibit its unique potentials to the media users. Imitating the innate cognitive capabilities of individuals to maneuver their daily basis exertion --AI refers to simulation of a device to think and act like human beings. Possessing the same feature, face ID also goes in depth with identification --- exceeding the human eye to pinpoint who’s who.

ChatGPT stands for Chat

Generative Pre-training Transformer. It is an interconnected model of InstructGPT which was designed to work similarly to ChatGPT.

Deemed as a chatbot to accomplish tasks without sweat and exerted efforts -- A conversational tool that allows its users to have human-like discussion that only needs an email address and a stable internet connection.

According to Ben Goetzel, a cognitive scientist, artificial intelligence researcher, AI is a machine with a humanlike ability to generalize and as a result, it will have the potential to replace many tasks currently performed by human workers.

Typing only the topic and the scope of its domain, you can have a professionally written output in a matter of seconds.

Though it is incomparable to the speed of which the light travels --- Still, an average human brain is no match to Artificial Intelligence.

“Avoid comparing the intelligence of machines to that of humans, because the human level of intelligence is arbitrary, and not in any way absolute,” Goertzel added.

Just how fast the night changes, this huge feat is an apprehension of brilliance and intellect. The manifestation of fast-paced movement and abreast.

From Fingerprint to Face ID, now the AI. We are globally ready to embark on changes. Above all, stagnancy is scarier than transitions and alters.

WE ARE NOT A NO BRAINER.

designing and producing more eco-smart bins for community use.

In lieu of this, team GINA aims to continue increasing public knowledge around the environmental impacts of waste by launching the I AM GINA app, which is ready to be downloaded by Android users around the world using the Google App Play Store for free.

This flood-inspired solution, once mainstreamed, will trailblaze the future of solid waste management in rural communities like Compostela. Pushing this AI project along with the smart trash bins leans towards a bigger impact of designing green innovations that reinforce the progress of Sustainable Development Goals globally. I AM GINA supports the digital transformation of greener rural communities. A community’s response demonstrates the role of empathy in influencing the establishment of a rapport where individual responsibility and improved grassroots action thrive to make a difference—all while utilizing the cutting-edge of technology to solve the most complex and pressing environmental issues of our time.

Centero: Right Through Its Eyes

Carrying the banner of Compostela National High School (CNHS), Centero continues to evolve and transcend. A tangible testament of Compostela National High School’s brilliance and innovation.

The manifestation od how the school embodies the Center Stage of Education Performance mantra.

Made from recyclable materials that completed the entirety of his green and white combined external appearance --- Centero is the first ever application-controlled robot born through the collaboration of Sir Marvin Fernandez, an award-winning National Robotics coach and Sir Norman G. Jandog, EdD, CNHS’ Principal IV.

Derived from the school’s official mantra, Sir Norman named the robot Centero. Currently, it has not yet made its formal public appearance for it has not yet been launched. According to Jandog, Centero has not yet reached his maximum potential and there is more to look forward to.

Centero is a product of RPA or Robotic Process Automation. Software robotics, also known as robotic process automation (RPA), uses automation technology to simulate back-office functions performed by human workers, such as enterprise and productivity applications, and APIs and user interfaces (UIs).

In addition, combining the interactions of RPA technology autonomously performs various tasks and transactions across unrelated software systems by providing scripts that mimic human interaction.

Centero’s features include; reminding the teachers to pass their Daily Time Record (DTR) reports, greeting individuals, and singing the Davao de Oro hymn --- which was applauded by the Regional Office.

On the other hand, Sir Norman G. Jandog got candid about Centero’s lacking current abilities due to financial constraints and financial budget. He also highlighted that in the near future, he will ultimately improve Centero.

In addition, Jandog encouraged the CNHS students to stay abreast with the current changes and to start going beyond their horizon. He also said that he immensely support innovation for it is our tomorrow’s future --- and is not only limited to STE and STEM students Norman G. Jandog described Centero as the official icon of the school --- that when people think about Compostela National High School, Centero is the first being that will come to their mind. He also wanted the students look at Centero as a reflection of themselves --- encouraging the students to act according to the robot’s programmed features, upholding the CNHS’ values and qualities.

HEATurn: Petitions set ablaze

“Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and motivating environment”.

Extracted from Department of Education’s mission --- a passage recited during flag ceremonies. Served as an electrolyte to help the sector get through a week of educating and nurturing Filipino learners. With the current weather condition, the vocation is deemed to be forgotten and taken for granted.

Together with the highest seat of power being occupied, DepEd also welcomed its newly appointed secretary, Vice President Sarah Duterte-Carpio who vowed to put the learners’ welfare at the center of her leadership. However, with the heat index soaring dramatically high, studs are faced with a tragic demise.

On the other hand, The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released an advisory that put the whole country under “extreme caution” and “danger” category because of heat indices 35-44 degrees Celsius.

The severity of scorching heat is set to rise due to climate change. As the level of greenhouse gas climb up in the atmosphere, it causes an increase in the risks of hot weather. With that being said, Philippines has to adapt to fiercer heat episodes.

The Department of Health released an advisory, reminding the public to be cautious of heat stroke --- a most severe form of heat illness that induced dehydration because the body had lost its capability to cool down. With the classrooms’ overpopulation, exceeding the 1 is to 40 ratio required --learners are the most vulnerable.

In addition, cases of nosebleed, dizziness, dehydration, and headaches are most prevalent at this point. That is why it has been encouraged to monitor the combination of heat and humidity for it prevents the human body from maintaining its cool through releasing sweat.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers’ (ACT) union on March 29, urged the education sector to reconsider adjusting the class schedules to avoid the day’s hottest hours or bring back the pre-pandemic school calendar, after the Department of Health has recorded 118 cases of heat exhaustion as of April 11.

According to the survey done by the said union, 67% of teachers felt that the heat in their classrooms are intolerable

and 87% of respondents also disclosed that students could not focus on their lessons.

Greg Libecci, a resource manager from Salt Lake District said that school cannot ignore the climate crisis and it has to be a priority.

In the Philippines, intensity is at its finest as the hot dry season begins its feat. With the debris left by COVID-19, class schedules are now messed up. The ACT union expressed their deep concerns to the students and teachers as the agonizing heat continued to persist.

“As teachers, we are committed to providing quality education to our students, but this becomes increasingly challenging in classrooms with inadequate ventilation and unbearable heat” ACT said.

As of now, DepEd has not made any confirmation regarding the Filipino’s plea to compromise one academic year to bring the schedule back to its original place.

With the Education’s mission being used in this context, the sector should not only acknowledge the problem but actually provide long-term solutions about it. Resiliency and the innate capacity of Filipinos to cope up should not be the hindrance to demand liability and greater service from government officials. At the end of the day, we are on the same page ---- craving for progress.

naCURE : Therapeutic for everyone

As of being a living human to this z , layers of difficulties in our minds stuck in our head. Some may have a solution, some are not. But, nature and good environment can help us heal anything.

CNHS students have an unusual relationship between nature due to its campus of the school that is surrounded by plants and trees. It has a big ethical impact to them especially to their wellbeing for mentality as a student. It is salient for them to use as positive outturn when it comes to the use of their knowledge. Good environment is equals to good mentality!

Research divulged that nature and good environment really had a good impact of our wellbeing especially to our mental health and body. Good environment can increase or reduce any kinds of stress which can help us recover from any forms of complications. Being in nature decreases the common stressors that it is in your mental health. It lessen your fear, anger and unfortunate depressions.

Everything you are seeing, hearing and experiencing

any moment alternating not just in our mood but how your endocrine, nervous and immune system are working. Exhibition to nature and good environment not only makes you better emotionally, it can also contribute to your physical wellbeing, muscle tension, heart rate, production of stress hormones and reducing blood pressure. It may also reduce mortality, that is according to scientists, public health researchers Stamatakis and Mitchell.

Unpleasant environment can turn or can cause you to feel anxious, helpless and sad. This can elevate your blood pressure, muscle tension, heart rate and suppresses your immune system. A pleasing environment and nature can alternate that.

Time in nature or viewing nature scenarios increases our ability to pay attention because human find essentially interesting. We can fundamentally focus on what we are dealing with our environment as well as our nature. This was also come up with a respite for our overactive minds and refreshing us for new beginnings and tasks.

Rooted from an unconscious thought to end the hassle, Sir Jonah Manatad thought of putting the use of papers to extinction as it delays the channel of information distribution --- such as filing a request to go out of the school. What used to be his past time paved way for another refinement, an Online Pass Slip System that directly notifies the teaching personnel.

Sir Jonah could not sleep that particular evening when an idea came across his mind. Instead of resting, he found himself contemplating how time consuming it is to ask permission to go out of the school premises --- carefully stating your reason to have the adviser and Grade Level Head sign the slip is draining.

Manatad authored the said app in Google AppSheet --- a cloudbased spreadsheet and data platform that allows its users to create an enterprise-level application. This is easy to use since it is u8ser friendly especially to those who do not have background and experiences in coding.

The application had gone through several beta tests to observe its performance. This is also to solve bugs and errors before its general release to ensure the quality and accuracy of the application. Before it was disclosed to the masses, beta testing is the ultimate step to assess whether it is ready to be used or it says otherwise.

In accordance with the author’s primary purpose. It features a “Fill-Out Online Pass Slip Form” tab that enables the students to express their reasons as to why they are needed to go out --- this includes missing spaces that need to be filled up to grant your request such as; student’s information, date, intention, destination, and email.

Though a dashboard is made public to everyone who wishes to access, the application was finished with utmost security to protect the information and data posted in the app. In addition, the school guards and teachers are given ingress to check if a certain request is denied or approved --- making the process more swift and convenient for everyone.

After the actual test, a verdict follows. Manatad saw right before his eyes how fast the transaction is if integrated with innovation. Contrary to the usual style of notes, technology does the walk and the talk.

However, after a week of utilizing the app, Google notified Manatad to pay 30,000 pesos in dollars to continue the usage. As of now, it is currently on hold as it has not yet been paid. Yet, Manatad plans to pursue the application --- even if it will cost him dollars.

Since it has been substantiated how convenient it is for everyone --he vowed to carry on what he started. “When I find resources, I will definitely pay my obligations to keep the app from working”, he said. Turns out that AppSheet is only free when used personally. If shared to wider users, fee will automatically come after.

Mental Scars exacerbate after earthquake

Ferocious shaking of the ground caused buildings to crumble like sandcastles and left students traumatized. The experience felt like a never-ending nightmare that would haunt them for the rest of their lives. The recent 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Davao de Oro had a powerful impact on the mental health of the students of Compostela National High School. It left them feeling anxious, scared, and overwhelmed with emotions of anxiety and terror, deeply traumatized long after the event had passed. They were reduced to sobbing messes due to the intensity of emotions they experienced.

Earthquakes are usually caused when underground rock suddenly breaks and there is rapid motion along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves that make the ground shake. The magnitude of an earthquake is measured on the Richter scale, ranging from 0 to 10, with higher magnitude earthquakes releasing more energy and causing more significant damage. While the physical damage caused by earthquakes is evident, their impact on mental health can be profound and long-lasting.

Studies have shown that up to one-third of individuals who experience a natural disaster, such as an earthquake, may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, and depression. For students, the emotional impact of earthquakes can be particularly acute, robbing them of their sense of safety and control in the classroom and at home. The haunting memories of the disaster can leave them in a state of perpetual fear, making it difficult to focus on their studies and move on with their lives. The psychological scars of such traumatic experiences can linger on for years, affecting the mental health and well-being of the affected individuals. An example of this is the experience of Trix Campogan, a Grade 10 Lakandula Learner, who is drowning in trauma, which drags him into fear of everything. Since the earthquake, entering his classroom on the second floor has become a nightmare.

However, with the right disaster management efforts in place, we can help individuals and communities cope with the emotional impact of earthquakes. Community-based mental health support can play a critical role in this regard, providing affected individuals with the necessary support especially in the schools, counseling services, and outreach programs run by trained mental health professionals or community volunteers.

Moreover, education and awareness programs can help individuals prepare for and cope with the emotional impact of earthquakes. This can include information on how to recognize signs of distress, self-care techniques, and resources for seeking professional help.

The recent earthquake in Davao de Oro has highlighted the profound impact that natural disasters can have on individuals' mental health, particularly on students who are still developing their sense of safety and security. The psychological scars of such traumatic experiences can exacerbate over time, affecting their mental well-being for years to come. But, with the right disaster management efforts in place, including community-based mental health support and education and awareness programs, we can help individuals and communities cope with the emotional impact of earthquakes and mitigate the longterm effects of mental scars. It is essential to prioritize mental health in disaster response efforts to ensure that those affected can heal and recover from their trauma.

Future teleVISION: Foreseeing education in the new normal lens

I AM WHO YOU ARE

With the technologized regimen, schools embark on the new standards of education as televisions became the beacon of teaching as it gives clear ways and enlightenment - education systems comprehend and mandates the global competencies.

Recently, CNHS had distributed 55 inches tv all throughout 61 classrooms including senior high school along with the support of PTA funds, School Supplemental Budgets and the School Maintenance and other Operating Expense (MOEE).

On the other hand, the new television had hyper functions and features yet it is smart tv. It has built-in applications such as Chrome and Youtube which are necessary for the initiative and primary education. It has also built-in Facebook, Instagram, Netflix and any other applications which are suitable for socialism and great entertainment to everybody.

Interestingly, all forms of gadgets such as mobile phones, digital phones, tablets and even laptops can easily and wirelessly connect to the tv through the process of screen mirroring. This smart tv offers screenshot or screen mirroring wherein accessible to all devices yet the most witty feature. To do this process, turn on the wifi and find the name of the wifi of the tv on any gadgets then connect.

Moreover, the television has the width of 121 centimeters and has a height of 68 centimeters equivalent to 55 inches dimension. This is beneficial since it gives visibility in meters away especially in the case of students who sit at the back of the classroom.

In addition to that, the tv also has an LED TV screen and a display resolution of 4K Ultra High Definition which offers clearer, more vibrant and precise visuals. It intensifies the color and is capable of cinematic effect. It also has a dynamic range of functions and soft-movement in display resolution - no lagging in beyond and above all, it is fast and responsive.

Aside from that, tv can also connect to any available wifi yet attributes to the internet connectivity.

Another interesting feature of smart TV is that it has voice control whereas you can speak through the interface of the TV in order for it to process and it can also sync to any devices which means listening to music, thermostat, and creating intriguing slideshows are very possible.

It should be noted that the 55 inches TV is supplemental to students as it elevates their learning and education. Studies have shown that by using smart television could increase interest in learnings, increase productivity and could motivate them.

Moreover, Filipino Diana Naviamos said, "We also have this most important thing that television is very useful in education like PowerPoint presentations and reports, in this digital era teachers including me are now using powerpoint to make learning and teaching easier." In this case, tv is an evidence for paperless exams which can save papers, ink, time as well as difficulties in terms of printing.

Foreseeing education in the lens of the new normal has always been the target but with the help of televisions, the future vision will be stronger and advance and can achieve global competencies.

Humans are not opaque.

Devices may project information at a certain phase, yet it has the ability to penetrate beyond screens. As we’re intertwined with the works of our nature, humans as we are, are transparent beings that sponge bits and pieces of information that flow within our line of grasp. In this era of speed information relay, is the sense of individuality internalized?

Displays of character are made accessed when exposure is at our fingertips. In just a single tap, we post several contents open for public views. With the plenty of digital content we consume, our self-configuration is met with doubt and max tendencies for self-alteration due to excessive adoration for online figures, which in turn may lead to Dissociative identity disorder (DID).

DID is a scientifically known disorder characterized by the presence of two or more distinct or split identities or personality states that continually have power over the person's behavior. As much as we try to be our best self, habits like extreme adaptations to online personalities; from their language, physical appearance, behaviors and down to their mannerisms, overrule the joys of being unique and being true to one’s identity. Studies illustrate that these are the fruits of unresolved envy, insecurity, lack of sense of self, and obsession.

Dependence to other’s influence is a falsification of ourselves as it defeats the purpose of identification. According to a study conducted by National Library of Medicine, adolescents experienced adverse mental health effects, including feelings of social isolation, depression, anxiety, and increases in maladaptive behavior as a result of increased digital technology usage. This apprehends the psychological issues silently faced by digital consumers and the underlying score of DID.

We are issued with the imitation crisis where we are called upon to lessen, for the touch of individual sensation may be compromised over the shadows of others. Especially since mental and psychological functions are concerned, experts prescribe that personal issues are urged to be dealt through healthier approaches such as consultations, socializations and controlled lifestyle because mental stability may be difficult to obtain when it lacks the ground to stand.

While mimicry does not always guarantee a negative toll, being mindful of its extent is crucial. The young also have to understand that most internet personalities have a character to play on-screen which may not be reflective of their real self. Relating to the online community is normal, but imitation is not a safety net.

Golden OREgano Green robust legacy

Stinky. This is how the locals describe oregano, a herbal plant which contains components and properties beneficial to humans - capable of improving the stability of one's health.

Oregano also known as Kalabo in Bisaya has a scientific name Origanum vulgare which commonly grows in any form of soils with an approximate height of one meter.

Oregano also known as kalabo, a medicinal plant that treats cough, prevents cancer cells and improves health is sowed in Gulayan sa Paaralan.

In addition to this, Oregano oil for coughing can be made at home with the easy and simple steps. To do this, burn the leaves of the Oregano then smash by just using mortar and pestle or simply by using a spoon and a tiny cup then add two-to-three drops of water. In an alternative way of the process, one cup of boiled water then

pour it into two teaspoons of dried Oregano leaves and sit the mixture for three-to-four minutes. Afterwards, filter the mixture then sip.

Moreover, Oregano is not just only for cough but it also contains chemicals responsible for wound healing, parasite infections as well as to fight viruses and bacteria

SHOWmai Worth: Digesting the bland aftertastes of Yum

Who would deny siomai?

Not me.

Soft cubes plunging down my food basket fills the vacant void of decisive cravings, a satisfaction of fantasy. Lapping hungry advances, the convenience of warm steamed siomai comes fulfilling in the sense of immediate grub grab—not, however, in the sense of healthy charge. For students like me, a serving of siomai is a delight, given its price and the tasty blend of meaty goodness plus the spice and tangy additions of calamansi, soy sauce and chili-garlic oil.

However, the realization of the underlying sores of these edibles are not as frank as its marketing, for siomai may be a small price to pay, but are hefty overtime.

Recently, Beverly Galenzoga the Gulayan sa Paaralan coordinator of CNHS had planted Oregano within the gulayan along with the cooperation of grade seven students.

considering the fact that it has antibiotic properties.

Another interesting component of Oregano is that it is rich in antioxidants which prevents the damage from radicals of the body not only for that, but also to fight the cancer cells.

Oregano is one of the finest

Oregano is one of the primary herbal plants that was planned to inculcate at the gulayan but it was now fulfilled yet the gulayan is filled with vast amounts of the said plant. This greatly contributed especially to the teachers as they gradually fetched from the very leaves to turn into medicinal essentials and for students as well. Furthermore, Oregano is widely used in traditional medicine which can treat illnesses such as cough. It has Carvacrol which is the main component of Oregano responsible for preventing and treating cough.

herbal plants that is highly appreciated due to its benefits. Oregano is a green robust legacy since it continues to infiltrate diseases and helps penetrate the overall surplus which conciles "The Ore of the Greeneries."

Chinese dumplings also known as siomai, a little street delicacy that ensures satisfaction through its meaty, savory and delicious taste.

Unassuming of the threat it instills, siomai appears no threat. Though aware of the meat content, these innocent-looking Chinese dumplings may not be as guilt-free as it projects to be.

According to Dr. Willie Ong, these merienda regulars provide rattle as a mere two-piece is equivalent to a full cup of rice, and a usual serving of four, equates to 400 calories, which translates to a full meal. As for the fried preparation, the calorie count escalates to 600. With these in mind, a short consumption of siomai is heavy for its physical proportion, making it concerning.

Ever wonder how siomai hold that distinct flavor and soft texture when chomping? Pork siomai actually accommodates 30% fat which is responsible for its aforementioned features, the fat content puts emphasis on how soft siomai are. The remaining composition is occupied with ground pork and extenders. Similar to foods with high fat content like Lechon, heart attacks, high cholesterol and cancer are the direct consequences of such frequent consumption, therefore, siomai is a close bet to these risks.

Stealth, the tactic of siomai when inflicting its major health drawbacks. The rise of siomai’s popularity most especially amongst students is an alarming state. The recognition of its discomfort thereafter is an essential wisdom the masses must possess, for health and wellness must come forward before spontaneous gratification of cravings. Since students are dominant consumers of junk foods, mainstream publicity of its risks is encouraged on influential platforms.

Now that siomai is present at almost every snack-kiosk, digesting the bland aftertastes of yum are the tags Compostela National High School (CNHS) aims to perpetuate in the prospects of its learners. The school believes that an ideal environment for conductive learning starts with a healthy crowd, of such can be achieved via supplemental knowledge on common edibles.

Though I would still chomp on some siomai, moderation and monitoringon the intake is followed. Recognizing its long term overturns are grave imperatives we have to constantly consider. Or if you wish to take the road now less traveled, choose real protein like fish or chicken without skin, and eat more vegetables and fruits. You do you!

CommuniC UTION: Quackery Intensifies Media

Media is filled with different information and contents that may greatly affect the perception of individuals yet some information is false that brought such vigorous alarm just like what happened to Dabaweños. As the earthquake shook the land of Davao de Oro, numerous fake information had spread across the internet and media affecting the individuals and the cause of such trauma and distress.

Post-earthquake made huge fallacies, saying that a volcano Mt. Leonard and crater Amakan may erupt anytime but it is quite contrary to the speculations and beliefs yet the loss of science communication and a well-suited synopsis thus having a science communication will accurately explain the situation especially the traumatic earthquake and a so-called volcanic eruptions. Without science communication, everyone will fall under only in quackery and can generate distress and panic.

After the following seismic activities, people believed that a volcano eruption would occur, however, it was clarified by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) that the possibility of such volcanic eruption in Mt. Leonard has no chance at all.

On the other hand, volcanic eruption is a destructive calamity that causes catalysts in both humans and in the environment. Before the eruption takes place, there will be signs and indications around the place such as a change in temperature, a frequent earthquake and seismic activities, a fuming of the surroundings especially in lakes, the release of gasses and landslides.

In the case of Mt. Leonard, it showed signs such as the release of sulfuric acid which is common within the premises around the volcano. A release of gasses near volcanoes is called fumaroles. Fumaroles are geological phenomena wherein it releases volcanic gasses such as sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide and commonly appeared as cracks, holes or fissures yet it is not a sign of a volcano near to erupt but it is a sign of an active volcano.

Aside from that, a frequent earthquake and seismic activities is not always linked to a volcanic eruption. There are reasons and causes of earthquakes such as a sudden slip on a fault and a movement of tectonic plates which constantly but leisurely moving along the earth's crust.

Another interesting phenomenon is that the possibility of volcanic eruption can be detectable about weeks and months to years following the long process of pressurization and the movement of magma inside the chamber.

In addition, before an eruption takes place, there will be heat anomalies, changes of gravity, a change in magnetic fields as well as geoelectrical phenomena.

Amidst the natural calamities especially earthquakes, it should be noted in the very mindset that preparation and alertness is very crucial yet necessary in all means. Information across media is not always factual and credible therefore validating the information first whether it was true or just false.

Loss of science communication should be prevented by the individuals since it was a major thing that the human need to penetrate. CommuniCAUTION should always be firmly practiced since the new generation had so much fallacies yet Quackery within media.

Pit of Expulsion: Delayed Progression

Of deep abysmal behemoth and isolated hollow lies a layered base to conceal unaesthetic disposal.

Contrary to the accustomed throwing and burning cycle, an engineered method will be hosted by Compostela to accommodate the cast out dump.

After 9 site inspections, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) finally found the perfect location to host the first ever Sanitary Landfill in the municipality. Though it has not yet been in operation, MENRO sees this feat as a starting point of eco consciousness.

Isolated from the masses, the landfill is set to be built in P-10 San Miguel, Compostela. After the 10 qualifications are met --- its construction will start in 2024. Pursuant to Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, it is an anticipated refurbishment in which Compostela is bound to follow.

Contrary to a careless open dump --- Sanitary Landfill is a modern disposal technique that aims to mitigate the probable risks associated with health and environmental conditions.

This allows the garbage to biologically and chemically decompose in a standard procedure administered by individuals, skillful in this field.

Sanitary landfills work by piling trash into a sizable pit. In a

nutshell, different waste layers are used to catch hazardous gasses emitted during the decomposition of the materials. To prevent the ground from collapsing, the layers are constructed so that the top portion has a larger volume and the bottom portion has the smallest volume.

In addition, landfills are placed where existing terrain features can act as natural barriers between the ecosystem and the landfills. Before burying E-waste, trenches are dug in the disturbed ground, and impervious liners are created to stop the dangerous elements from escaping.

This is to reduce the risk leachate from landfills that exhibit harm to the environment. It is characterized by high concentrations of organic and inorganic pollutants.

The important effects of landfill leachate could include harmful effects on fauna and eutrophication of aquatic systems, which are brought on by a number of contaminants.

The complexity of designing the safest and most economical solid waste collection in rural and urban areas due to external and internal factors such as; population growth, increased industrial activities, inadequate proper disposal areas --contribute to the Local Government Unit’s delayed call for action.

While it is not yet in operation, LGU Compostela built a temporary disposal area to cater the municipality’s need for a proper space. MENRO also encouraged the constituents to be an eco-warrior to save our planet.

This is only attainable if we make the necessary measures to contribute to our home’s rehabilitation.

“If we won’t, who will?” Ma’am Josephine Libradilla, MENRO Administrative Aid stated.

SIMultaneous Protection: Revolutionized security over cyber threat

Sudden messages that pop up become alarming more than a danger that appears with no technology. Every unseen face behind random chat creates silent harms.

Protection and security - augmented by the law that fights against cyber threats. In the small card part of the phone, people rely on their privacy and personal safety. A single click transmit danger in the invisible influence of technology.

In the years that people used SIM cards, it gave them a lot of benefits. The most important feature of these modules is the network authentication. The sim card housed the data and memory that is important for the people who owned it. For this, keys and algorithms are restored on the card, which encrypt both voice and

signaling data making it unreadable by unauthorized individuals. Moreover, a SIM card serves people an asset most especially for work and studies. It allows the people to have a connection for them to make calls or texts, and connects to internet services for their resources and entertainment.

These cards are simple plastic pieces with silicone chips on them which contain processor and memory circuits that allow them to store up to 265 KB of digital information. Each SIM card holds a user's IMSI (International Mobile Subscribers Identity) and ICCID ( Integrated Circuit Card Identifier) information. Mobile network operators use a SIM Card IMSI and ICCID to verify the holding user and decide whether to grant network access to the associated device.

It is data that contains information

including users identity, location, and phone number, network authentication data, personal security keys, contact lists and stored messages. SIM cards allow a mobile user to use this data and the feature that comes with them.

However, its benefits do not cover how harm exists in this thing. Technology is a dangerous place that no one could ever imagine most especially for the kids and youth in which they are more prone to experience cyber threat. According to a DQ institute 2020 survey that covers 63% of the global population, 6 out of 10 children ages 8-12 are exposed to various cyber risks. The Philippines have high cases of cyber threats making it the top 2 of the countries with the highest online risks exposure levels. Also, online scams have increased from 2, 457 cases reported in 2019 to 14, 869 to October last 2022 including seven months under community quarantine amid the pandemic.

While SIM cards do provide a certain level of security for mobile devices, they are not foolproof and scammers can still find ways to access your personal information and send you scam messages. SIM cards can provide some level of security for mobile devices, they are not a foolproof method for preventing scam messages.

It's important to be aware of the various tactics scammers use and to be cautious when receiving messages from unknown or suspicious sources.

Children and youth are fragile enough to be trapped in the game of scammers taking advantage of technology. Therefore, the SIM Card Registration law or the Republic Act No. 11934 was implemented by the government to lessen the scams that happen increasingly. The law seeks to end crimes using the platform including text and online scams by regulating the sale and the use of SIMS by mandating registration to end-users. Various networks are mandatory to also implement SIM card registration law such as Smart, Globe, Dito and many more. Yet nearing the deadline, only 41.3%of SIM cards are registered. In the harm that the virtual world brings to the public, this law will become a shield to protect people from the threat online. Technology today is essential for everyday lives, even for children. Despite being just a small chip, it restores seclusion of individuals that should never be invaded. Even with the rapid spread of technology, privacy should always be protected. It will be the revolutionized security that will go against cyber threats to have simultaneous protection.

This is an excerpt learned by heart by the Filipino people from the national anthem, "Lupang Hinirang." It boasts the country’s treasures—land, air, and sea— all of which lie at the cradle of civilization and economic growth. If we are to aim for true national development, sustainability should take place across all three spheres. As Filipinos, there is one way to push for this: suffrage.

The recent 2022 Philippine elections, perhaps, were the most critical point to determine the direction and fate of our biodiversity, one of the most climatevulnerable areas in the world. Why is that? In 2015, the Philippines promised a 75% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 during the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, along with the other 197 member countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

When followed faithfully, the Paris Agreement will help the world lessen the impact of climate change and make the

effects manageable for vulnerable countries, such as the Philippines, so that we may protect our collective future.

Elected leaders are now faced with the challenge of reaching this goal. We are witnessing the climax of political and environmental progress or regress—the answer is up to them.

Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., son of the late ousted dictator, is now the president of the Republic of the Philippines. During his campaign, he vowed reforestation on a "massive scale" and management of the remaining forests "according to strict standards."

He also promised to focus on the "air pollution problem" in the country. Furthermore, BBM and his UniTeam are also committed to promoting responsible mining by enforcing the key provisions of the Mining Act of 1995 (Republic Act 7942).

"Nature has its own rights that should be protected. It should be allowed to flourish, reproduce, and attain its abundance side by side with human civilization in perfect balance and harmony with our growing

communities," he stressed. Their platforms may seem promising, but will this be enough? In the 1900s, the country’s forest cover amounted to 70% of the total land area; currently, it is down to 20.5 %. Studies have shown that to regenerate enough forest cover at the same level as that in the 1900s, it would require 177 years at the present rate and efficiency of reforestation. Something the father of the newly-elected president is responsible for, as almost half of the Philippines' forest cover was reduced during martial law, leaving only around 7.8 million hectares.

After exercising suffrage, the Filipino people should not stop being mere ‘bystanders’ to the new administration. At the end of the day, democracy grants us the right to demand accountability from the authorities who pledged to protect and preserve our collective treasures. Our Philippine biodiversity cries for sustainability, and the election is just the beginning of the real fight ahead. Therefore, in this new administration, the land, air, and sea are watching.

Overlooked and Underrated - Indeed, when we talk about the most famous and most numbered athlete enthusiasts within a sport in the Philippines, the answer would be basketball. An own spotlight shines beyond its head; to different land masses of the Philippines, from the streets of towns, to coastal beaches and even the most rural parts, a four-cornered court with hoops and rings is visible to the naked eye.

Based on the Nike poll (a popular shoe brand partnered with the said sport) the Philippines is reported to be the third largest basketball market after the United States and China, about 40 million people play or have played basketball. According to one report, 81% of the city’s population are basketball fans, and nearly 50% of them are avid fans. Due to its popularity amongst the nation, the amount of support and attention given to the said sport is overflowing like a basin left unattended to an open tap water. Blood, sweat, and tears. Those are the words that best described the athlete and sports as the athletics endeavor for the gilded title but beyond all sacrifices and efforts, a lack of equipment used for training and cultivation was still a hindrance that the trainors and athletics faced from the very facade.

CNHS should provide sports equipment as it is very practical and necessary. I have observed that the school lacks sports equipment, therefore the main factor that highly affects their performances. Those athletes are the pride of CNHS and they need to be prioritized by any means and I strongly believe that the lack of such equipment will not disseminate the skills that the players need.

With no accessible place for them to practice, lack of equipment like nets, balls, and rackets to use, no financial fund for jerseys, vitamins and food support, no recognition and tournaments available for them. Then, athletes and coaches are pushed to provide the things

needed for themselves with the use of their own money. Only powering their dreams through their own efforts. This does not imply that it is the full responsibility of the sector of government to provide but, fair treatment towards different sports should prevail as we also need the same support.

CNHS Men’s V lleyball Spikes Silver

With their eyes fixed on the prize, they are ready to take on any challenge and bring home the championship trophy. Fans can expect nothing but the best from this talented team, and their opponents Through constant practice and dedication, they influence the other students to appreciate volleyball and empower sports.

Lack of sports equipment is not just a hindrance but also a turmoil of the trainers themselves. According to Cheryl Macas, CNHS coach for billiards that the lack of rooms and settings as well as equipment is a burdensome wherein they will undertake a training outside the school premises, therefore, they will pay a heavy cost at the local billiard haul.

Furthermore, gymnasts of the CNHS also lack equipment such as; mat, balls, balance beams and ribbons. Coah Geralyn Quinto and Janice Cagas found this a difficulty since they cannot properly rehearse the athletics for the following competitions enduring inflexible processes.

Athletics are an integral part of the school and need to be spare of such sufficient materials and equipment ample to their necessity.

Sweat under scarcity is what the phrase attributes to the lack of equipment beyond the achievements, trophies and medals they bagged. The school should provide enough equipment and should devote itself to primary penetration.

Without solving this issue, this will become a heavy hindrance and can be passed though the next generations.

What Weighs More? Winning or Health

Restricted – Achieving such triumph in sports needs to defy things such as doing physical training to a strict diet. It is known that an athlete must possess a strong physical ability; Thus, the need to eat healthy and nutritious food must go jointly.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), When carbohydrates in the diet are restricted, a person's exercise performance can be affected because there is not enough glycogen stored to fuel the body. In some cases, the body begins to break down muscle tissue to meet its energy needs, which can lead to loss of protein (muscle) tissue and increase the risk of infection and disease.

Our body works similar to a bonfire, if it is not fed by easy flaming materials it would not create a massive fire. Fueling our body with the right intake of calories, vitamins, and other nutrients that provides energy is a must.

In contrary to what should be done, athletes suffers from they are being forbidden to eat days before their game starts. Leading to a poor performance and not winning the game at all. Worst-case scenario, athletes have been rushed to hospitals and clinics for they passed out due to irregular eating habits. An example is games like wushu, wrestling, and boxing where a specific weight is required for the athlete to be able to play, making them unable to eat their desired meal.

In practice, eating something before a game may experience stomach or gastrointestinal discomfort to the athletes. This is because during exercising and moving your body makes more blood go to the muscles, leaving less work for digestion.

This leads to their solution the water therapy, athletes are forced to just drink water or energy drink paired with vitamins to cement the gap of not eating a food; Drinking 2-3 glasses of water in 5-15 minutes during in-game or hours before game.

But, Is it necessary to just leave our players belly-empty just to satisfy the word winning?

Though winning a game can give us the pride and joy but, also looking into the health of one’s player is more fruitful than actually winning; if winning is wealth in sports so as health is wealth while playing a sport.

concluded 23rd Davao de Oro Provincial Athletic Association Meet 2023.

“I had new recruits on my team. During the provincial meet, the age requirement should be born in the year 2005 but most of my veteran players were born in the year 2004 so they were not qualified to participate in the game,” said Elma Aligato, coach of the said team.

Furthermore, as stated by Aligato, a lot of her players are graduating Senior High School which opens slots for new recruits. This will be fulfilled by the students of one of the offered programs of CNHS, the Special Program for Sports (SPS). Also, the club is now active when it comes to harnessing their future players for they will be participating in the new upcoming edition of the Batang Pilipino Basketball League.

CNHS: Coaches’ Way for a Strategic Win

KEY – Coaches effectively provide social support to their athletes either to words of affirmation to guide them in building and strengthening their skills. They embodied up as a key to an undiscovered chest for greatness and winning.

Positive-talk serves as an essential part of an athlete's life. It has improved the mental health of the athletes through its positive association with facilitating stress management during competition, dropping the perceived stress, and general burnout as they feel validated and appreciated during their performance on the sporting stage.

“I always left them quotes before, during and after the game. Like, God will guide you in everything so trust in him as you go play before sending them in the court, Kaya pa na, Just stick to the whole plan during, and You all did great and I commend you all for that at the end of the game,” said Elma Aligato, Compostela National High School (CNHS) basketball coach.

Verola on the other hand noted that truly saying nice and motivating thoughts and phrases to

them really helped them in striving as the best kay mas maningkamot man gud sila if hatagan nimo silag expectation. As I give them high expectations, the possibilities of us winning are at peak, for they will do anything to win and not waste the hard training.

Overall, the words mouthed by the coaches truly is an effective way of leading a troop as they manage to win lots of competitions, tournaments, and many invitational games.

Athletes are not the only one who grasped that winning game, for behind those well-figured player is a coach who leads them and shouting proudly in-game Akoy nagtudlo ana!

Prior to the anticipated mania, tournaments hold a breather and let loose the pressure. Before the crowd chants into distinct cheers, a same hurrah is shared aloud. In a pool of mutual applause, the crowd roars proudly, not by grand slam, a great pass, rebound or a heart-stopping foul, it’s with the funny skit, short skirts and a kembot.

Wildcats know this well. Setting the audience in an uncontrollable mix of woahs, entertainment and spectacle not only during the tournaments, but also with their dance production is their charm. Known not only for their agility, team-coordination and goal orientation, Wildcats prove that they cannot be ceased in the play-offs, and most certainly not in a dance-off.

“You just had to be there! Seeing the players warm up from the heavy atmosphere and be goofy from all the stress shows the positive and light side of sports,” shared Chrishell Cabatlao as she recalls her experience.

Precious Shane Gepolla also shared that it was her first time seeing her boyfriend dance and it was really amusing to see, aside from the stunts and the great reflexes her beau unleashes on-court in his Wildcats jersey.

Obviously from the faces of the players and the coaches, everyone is having the best time! A dash of comedic spoof is enough to jumpstart the meet to a comfortable view.

While the games may be heated at the break of it, and scores end the series, the essence of good sportsmanship and wholesome bonds is the gist of any tourney. Letting out a goofy smile and effortless chuckles is one way of enjoying a play. Witness greatness, witness history, and maybe peep a kaldag, here or two.

Esports for Athletic Meet?

GGWP “Good Game, Well

Played” – Electronic sports or simply Esports is a video/ mobile game played with the use of digital screens either Personal Computer or by Cell phones; it is a team sporting event in a combative way capturing their opponents through the animated, organized, developed application/software.

Imagine – Walking into the homes of the Filipino youths, we may find them most of the time lurking in the corners of their bedroom with an electronic device glued in their hands.

The emerging and thriving society of mobile games towered year-every-year, due to high-numbered of Esporting events, easy accessibility to

the games, and countless appearance to different social media sites.

The Philippines, according to recent statistics, 95.8% of internet users between the ages of 16 and 64 played video games.

By these figures, it made the Philippines the number one country in the world in terms of the most numbered mobile players.

The 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA-G) 2023 Esports category comprises of VALORANT, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (womens and mens), PUBG Mobile, League of Legends: Wild Rift, CrossFire and Attack Online 2.

Despite being opened as an official sports in the international field, the regional and provincial

for mobile games.

In my recent poll, 14 out of 20 respondents agreed that Esports should be an official sport in the regions of the country. Only making a 30 percent discrepancy.

One major reason why people does not allow it is because they assume that a real sport is a moving sport, excluding the “nonmoving” sports.

In other terms, sports that do not exert much more effort in physical aspects are not considered as a sport. This is also the reason why chess is not included in the Olympics.

Sporting events here in the Philippines are still not open in providing a spot about having strong physical aspects, a sport also needs a brain, that’s why tactics and strategies in winning are present in-game.

Playing Esports like Mobile Legends can increase our brain work for startegies are needed during battling with other players.

Aside it is a place were youth can engage with other people, strengthening ties creating brotherhood. Moreover, we are in the 21st century and technology emerge more-and-more, why not we allow advanced sporting events in the field instead of just settling to usual traditional sporting events.

For many athletes, participating in Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) is a dream come true. But for Julia Mae Wenceslao, and Kurt Andrew Dalmacion it remains an unattainable goalat least for now.

Wenceslao and Dalmacion are both taekwondo athletes who trained hard to qualify for DAVRAA. They spent countless hours practicing their kicks, blocks, and forms in the hopes of making it to the competition.

"Happy gali kaayu, kay naka abot mi sa provincial," Wenceslao expressed, though not making it to the DAVRAA she is still happy that they were able to represent the Municipality of Compostela in Davao de Oro Provincial Athletic meet Association (DdOPAA).

Dalmacion shared similar sentiments, saying that missing out on DAVRAA was a setback but not a defeat. He plans to continue training and competing for the remaining years that he has here in school to improve his skills.

"Dawat dawat lang, maningkamot nalang sunod," said Wenceslao. She also mentioned that she is not giving up, she is still chasing her dream of becoming a

champion."

The road to success is not always a smooth one, and setbacks are inevitable. However, what sets Dalmacion and Wenceslao apart is their determination and resilience. They refuse to let this setback define their athletic careers and instead choose to use it as motivation to work even harder.

"Nagtoo man pud jud ko nga kung naa juy hard work ug dedication sa imong gibuhat maka achieve jid kag success," Dalmacion uttered confidently.

Wenceslao echoed her sentiments, saying that perseverance is the key to success in any field.

Dalmacion and Wenceslao may not have made it to DAVRAA this year, but their journey is far from over. They continue to pursue their passion for taekwondo with the same level of dedication and determination as before, knowing that one day they will achieve their dreams. Their story is a testament to the resilience and perseverance required to succeed in any field, and serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere.

Macabodbod, a visually impaired athlete emerged victorious at the recently concluded Davao Region Association meet (DAVRAA) as she hailed as the bronze medalist at the field of athletics—shot put, held last April 24-28, 2023. "Kristine has worked incredibly hard for this competition. She has overcome so many challenges and obstacles, and her dedication and determination have paid off," Dory Valenton, coach of Macabodbod expressed. However, despite being a good athlete, Macabodbod still receives a lot of mockery from people who have shallow and narrow minds.

"Kung naay mangaway sa akoa, pasagdahan ra ko na sila," Macabodbod ventured her experience in regards to the people who still discriminate against people with disabilities.

Kristine's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the human spirit. She has shown that with hard work and determination, anything is possible, regardless of the obstacles a person may face. Kristine's journey is an inspiration to all, and you can all learn from her example of resilience and positivity in the face of adversity.

It is the 1st time that the Davao de Oro delegation won gold in wrestling and out of the 8 boy wrestlers of Earvin Jan Ang, 7

of them earned a place which made the highest attainment of the team in the said event.

“I act as their father figure. I know that they are nervous during the game so as their coach I really tried my best to give them emotional support to lessen their fear.

I constantly remind them to always recall the hardships of their training and use it as a tool to be the strongest when they step inside the platform,” said Earvin Jan Ang CNHS wrestling coach. Moreover he mentioned that he felt motivated to win because they were so underrated. At the start of the competition whenever they hear Davao de Oro wrestlers they actually don’t mind

it at all. Saying That’s just Davao de Oro, it's so easy to belittle them, but my players showed dominance and made the whole place unable to speak.

The team’s success was truly an inspiring journey, they used to practice on the school grounds lifting big trailer truck wheels and running around the premises to cultivate the strength within them. With their positive outcome it just proved that no lack of training equipment can hinder the passion that they have.

The team currently instills the spirit of fighting what’s beyond and is hungry for more future success.
