CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS

CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY

Welcome to my weekly column. My name is Caroline and as a certified DóTERRA essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help, guide and support so many people along with their friends and families throughout North Kerry and West Limerick over the last three years on their essential oil journey. I know how the Oils can support the Body, the Mind and the Mood and each week I’ll be sharing lots of tips and information on SelfCare, Wellness, Love and Gratitude when using your DóTerras essential oils as part of your every day routine.

Self-Belief, Self-Acceptance, Postitivity & Calm… I bring you dóTERRAS Bergamot Essential Oil!

When it comes to using dóTerras essential oils, diffusing the oils as well as using them is very important! When you diffuse the oils in your home or work space for one hour, they remain airborne for 12 hours. This week I want to share with you one of my personal favourites in the dóTERRA essential oil range that helps support one’s Self-Belief, SelfAcceptance and promotes feelings of Calm and Positivity – its DóTerra’s Bergamot!

These essential oils work on our physical and on our emotions and dóTerra’s Bergamot essential oil relives feelings of despair, self-judgement and low self-esteem. It invites individuals to see life with more optimism and positivity. Bergamot is unique among citrus oils because it is both uplifting and calming. Although the fruit is sour, the oil is sweet and aromatic, and is an ingredient in many women’s fine fragrances and one third of men’s colognes! It is also a key ingredient in the classic Eau de Cologne created back in 1709. Eau de Cologne was a favourite scent of Voltaire and it was he who declared it ‘a fragrance that inspires the spirit!’

In Southern Italy, Bergamot oil has been used for hundreds of years to soothe feelings of stress and rejuvenate the complexion. Bergamot retails at only €47 and €35.50 for Caroline’s Pod of Positivity members. The bottle contains 285 x drops of pure Bergamot essential oil and contains no chemicals, substances or alcohols. This oil can be diffused in your cold water diffuser. The Petal diffusers are best as they cover a large area space. Bergamot can be applied to the skin with or without a carrier oil and can be ingested by adding a drop to your favourite drinks or foods. (dóTerra’s Bergamot will not burn over a tea-light burner due to its purity)

Caroline’s Top Tip – Using your dóTerra Bergamot essential oil.

• Diffuse 2 to 3 drops of Bergamot in the classroom, at work or at home when stress levels or tensions are high

• Apply Bergamot oil to the skin while showering or bathing and inhale deeply to experience its calming aroma while enjoying its purifying skin benefits

• Change regular tea to herbal tea or Earl Grey and a drop of Bergamot oil into your cup

• Apply Bergamot oil to the feet before bed time

• Add 1 to 2 drops of Bergamot oil to your skin care cleanser or fractionated coconut oil and use as a facial cleanser for perfect skin.

You can check out my Facebook page Caroline’s Pod of Positivity for more information on DóTERRAS Essential Oils. Consultations and oil experience group classes can be booked by contacting me on the number below and together we will start you on your journey of health and wellness using the Oils with my full support and guidance.

My Three Way Method Using DóTerras Oils: Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet. Aromatically: Place two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business. Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.

DóTERRA knows that essential oils must be pure and potent in order to best fulfill the needs of those that use them. Too often, essential oils available for purchase contain contaminants and filler substances that weaken the essential oil’s effectiveness. With the sole purpose to provide pure and potent essential oils, doTERRA ensures that their oils are free of harmful contaminants and fillers through the CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade™ protocol. We are so fortunate that DōTerra now have a manufacturing plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork and will become a household name in Ireland by the year end.

LISTOWEL WRITERS’ WEEK ANNOUNCE SHORTLIST FOR KERRY GROUP IRISH NOVEL OF THE YEAR AWARD 2023

Five Irish novels have been shortlisted for the 2023 Kerry Group Irish Novel of the year Award - one of the most sought-after prizes for Irish Authors, with a shared prize fund of €22,000.

More than fifty novels were submitted for the award and adjudicators Manveen Rana and Patrick Gale were given the arduous task of whittling these down to a shortlist of five novels on behalf of Listowel Writers’ Week.

Speaking about the adjudication, Patrick Gale said, “From an overflowing laundry basket of goodies we hope we’ve settled on a shortlist that represents the vitality and variety of this year’s submissions, from an erotically charged take on the Troubles to an invigoratingly feminist one on witch-hunts. Here, too, are two brilliant portrayals of Ireland through the eyes of rank outsiders and a third which anatomises the conflicts of small town Irish life with an insider’s merciless eye for detail.”

Catherine Moylan, Director at Listowel Writers’ Week revealed the shortlist. “Congratulations to the shortlisted authors of 2023 Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year. We are very grateful to Kerry Group for their support for this award as it helps us promote and celebrate Irish literary talent. Thank you to Manveen and Patrick for compiling a shortlist which showcases a diverse selection of Irish literature. Thanks also to everyone who submitted their novels for this year’s award: it has been clear to all involved that the state of writing in Ireland is as healthy as ever.”

The five shortlisted novels are:

The Colony by Audrey Magee

The Geometer Lobachevsky by Adrian Duncan

Trespasses by Louise Kennedy

The Amusements by Aingeala Flannery

The Witches of Vardo by Anya Bergman

The overall winner of the €20,000 prize will be announced on Wednesday 31st May 2023.

Commenting on the Awards, Catherine Keogh, Chief Corporate Affairs and Brand Officer, Kerry Group, said:

“At Kerry Group, we are proud to continue our long association with Listowel Writers Week, a celebration of the written word that inspires creativity, ignites imagination and fosters a sense of community. We believe that great stories can change the world and we are honoured to play a part in bringing those stories to life. I would like to congratulate all five authors on being shortlisted and I very much look forward to hearing who will be announced the winner in May.”

The full list of competition winners will be announced on the 1st June on… www.writersweek.ie

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well

We hope all is well with you again this week. The forecast for this week is a bit mixed, however we want to bring out the sunshine in you. Some things in our lives can be a little bit like the forecast at the moment BUT every cloud has a silver lining. Lets look at your silver lining on your Weight loss and Wellness journey and bring out your inner sunshine.

I can see clearly now the rain has gone!!

We have all been through the storms with our Weight loss and Wellness. Think back to a time when you were not happy with your weight.

How did you look? Did you criticize yourself every time you looked in the mirror?

How did you feel? Did you feel tired, bloated, unhealthy and in no way motivated?

How was your mood? Were you snappy, quick tempered, moody?

Was that the dark cloud for you? You know the answer

We all have a different answer to each of these questions. When we are not happy with how we look or how we feel we have to remember that we can make the changes necessary to forecast a more positive outcome. So not everything has to be all gloom and doom. Every cloud has a silver lining and every change you make is a step in the right direction and over time all those changes will paint a different picture.

Now take a look at the silver lining and where you are now.

What is different now to before?

Do you look different?

Do you feel different?

Has your mood changed?

Has your mindset changed?

When we focus on the positive changes above we start to see and feel the warmth of the sunshine. Recognising the changes we make and seeing and feeling the benefits can motivate and help us to feel more positive.

It’s then that the sun starts shinning from within ourselves.

Your future forecast

Thinking and looking at the changes you have made over time ask yourself can you continue on with them. What is the forecast looking like for your future wellness?

Sunny and bright!!

If you really want the “heatwave” to continue you need to ask yourself the following questions…

What would you like to have happen? | What needs to happen?

Can you? | Will you?

When you have the answers to all of the above the clouds start to clear and the sun shines through. You will start to notice the changes in how you feel within yourself firstly, then others will start to see them too. Make yourself a priority, your health and wellbeing are very important and must be taken care of.

We at San Rita Wellness are always there to support our members on their Weight loss and Wellness journey through the rainy days as well as the sunny days.

For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “In Person Meetings“, “At Home Service“ or our “One to One Service“.

KITTY’S SALON:

Sex, Spying and Surveillance in the Third Reich

There is no book in English about the wartime Berlin ‘salon’ run by Kitty Schmidt under the secret control of Reinhard Heydrich, one of the architects of the Final Solution

Salon Kitty was the most notorious brothel in the decadent Berlin of the Weimar Republic - the city of Cabaret. But after the Nazis took power, it became something more dangerous: a spying centre with every room wired for sound, staffed by women agents specially selected by the SS to coax secrets from their VIP clients. Masterminded by Reinhard Heydrich, the spymaster whom Hitler himself called ‘the man with the iron heart’, the exclusive establishment turned listening post was patronised by the Nazi leaders themselves, not knowing that hidden ears were listening.

One of the last untold stories of the Second World War, Salon Kitty’s sensational true history is now revealed by historians Nigel Jones, Urs Brunner and Dr Julia Schrammel. After years of painstaking research and investigation, the story they tell sheds new light on Nazi methods of control and coercion, and the way that they used and abused sex for their own perverse purposes.

KILFLYNN

KILFLYNN N.S ARE MINI 7S CHAMPIONS

On Monday 24th April, The County INTO GAA Mini 7s Hurling competition was played in beatiful sunshine at the Tom Healy Memorial Park, Abbeydorney. The largest number of teams in the history of the competition participated this year and St. Teresa’s National School, Kilflynn rose to the top!! This group of players produced some fantastic hurling on Monday against three tough challenges. First up we met Buff’s homeland Kilgarvan, a spirited bunch but we proved that goals win matches.

Next, we were met with the physicality of a strong Sliabh a mhadra side from Ballyduff but again the boys dug deep and powered through to the final.

In the final we met a skillful Glenderry, Ballyheigue side. We were down by two points at half time and with seven minutes left the boys put everything on the line. We had shots on goals that would rattle any net and points sailing over the bar with precision. We clawed our way back to win by five points. Congratulations and well done to the Kilflynn players Paddy Cronin, Matt Cronin, Daniel Diggins, Daithi Nolan, Jack Kelliher, Bobby Ryan, Eoin Beirne, Tiernan Mullins, Dean McElligott and Simon Russell and to their mentors Jerome O’Sullivan (Trainer) and Sinead Hogan (Manager). Monday would not have been possible without the help of Jerome O’Sullivan. Jerome lives and breathes hurling and his positive attitude keeps the boys going at moments when heads might drop

CHANGE IN MASS SCHEDULE

At a recent meeting of the Area Pastoral Council (with representatives from Listowel, Moyvane, Knockanure, Lixnaw, Iremore, Rathea, Duagh, Lyrecrompane) the provision of Mass for the 8 communities of the region was reviewed.

After exploration of possibilities, given the decline in the number of priests (4 at the moment), it was proposed that, among other adjustments, Moyvane-Knockanure would continue to have its vigil Mass on Saturday evenings at 7.30 and morning Mass at 9.30 in Knockanure. Moyvane Sunday 11.00am Mass may be dropped so that the resident priest (for now) in Moyvane could provide Mass elsewhere in the area at that time.

Before this arrangement is confirmed, your comments are welcome, preferably in writing, to Fr. Brendan before May 1st. They will be respected and included in any ultimate outcome.

GAA NEWS

Kerry Hurling:

Ballyduff was represented on the County hurling teams at the weekend with the Boyle brothers Mikey and Podge, Eoin Ross and Kyle O’Connor on the Senior team that defeated Kildare on Saturday in the Joe McDonagh Cup. Next up for this team is an away trip to Offaly on May 7th. Shay Murphy, Jake Segal and Michael Houlihan were on Celtic Challenge team that lost to Cork on Saturday in Austin Stack Park.

Senior Hurling:

Our Senior hurlers travelled to Ardfert on Friday evening last to take on the locals in Round 5 of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Hurling League and managed to preserve their unbeaten run in the competition. St Brendans started brightly and were ahead 0 – 6 to 0 – 2 after 20 minutes. Both sides added two points each before the break leaving the hosts ahead by 4 four points 8 – 4. Ballyduff were faster off the mark after the break and a point from Kevin Goulding was followed a goal, from a penalty expertly converted by Killian Boyle, after Paul O’Carroll was pulled down in the square. The visitors took the lead but St Brendans were awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Darragh Quinlan. Ballyduff were leading by two with time almost up but the concession of two late frees allowed St Brendans to tie the score at 0 – 17 to 1 – 14. Next up is a home game against Causeway on this Friday evening at 7.00pm.

Senior Football:

Our Senior football team travelled to Castlegregory on Sunday last to take on the locals in Round 4 of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Football League. We conceded a goal after 20 seconds but settled down quickly, although playing against the wind, two goals from Michael Slattery and points from Tommy O’Connor and Kevin Goulding left us trailing by one point at halftime. We managed to lead by three points after 55 minutes but three points for the hosts left the final score at full time Ballyduff 2 - 11 Castlegregory 1–14. On this Sunday we are at home to Cromane with throw-in at 2.00pm.

Féile na nGael:

Pride of the place this week must go to our Féile team who pulled of the mother of all comebacks at Abbeydorney on Saturday evening last. Trailing by nine points with eight minutes left, two goals and four points to Crotta’s single point tied the scores and in the final minute captain John Curtin shot was barely wide to win the game. The game went to extra time with two five minutes halves. Our young men really upped their game with Dylan Costello unerring from frees. We outscored our opponents four points to two to spark off one of the greatest celebrations ever seen in Tom Healy Park. This game was a Classic example of how the great game of hurling should be played with both teams giving it everything for the pride of the parish. Crotta will be disappointed having surrendered a nine point lead but this was really about playing to the final whistle. While there was some brilliant individual performances this by and large was a team performance with everyone putting their shoulder to wheel when the need was greatest. After the game Martin Sheehy, Chairman Coiste na nÓg Chiarraí presented the Shield to Captain John Curtin amid scenes of great joy.

The victorious Féile panel is Jack Enright, Adam Kennelly. Evan O’Connor, Aodhan Slattery, JJ O’Rourke, Jake Rochford, Seán Ross O’Gorman, Scott Sheehan, Oran Curley, Jack Purcell, Dylan Costello, Fionn Byrne, Ben Lynch, John Curtin (captain), Cathal Byrne, Jack Houlihan, Cillian Mulcahy, Darragh James, Ruan Houlihan, Jacob Dunworth, Thomas Scanlon, Aaron Ross O’Gorman.

Ballyduff now go on to represent Kerry at the National Féile na nGael Finals to be held in Connacht Centre of Excellence Mayo on June 24th. Well done to everyone concerned and in particular players and Joint Management Noel and Sean Browne .

LISTOWEL ATHLETIC CLUB

Well done to Louis oConnell representing UL and Padraic McCarthy representing MTU at the Universities T&F Championships last weekend in the new facility of DSD. Weather was not great with gutsy winds and rain but the boys were glad to get their first outdoor runout under their belts.

On Monday, our Juvenile and Juniors will be at the County Championship in An Riocht. This is the start of the outdoor season with a busy 2 months ahead for a lot of these athletes.

The weekend saw six club athletes honoured for their athletic achievements over the past 2 years at the County Awards night in the Listowel Arms Hotel. Club Awards went to Noelle Dillion and Aoibhinn Harte. County Awards was presented to Megan Lynch and Padraic McCarthy. International Awards was presented to Kevin Lynch and Donal Leahy.

Last week we have a quick look at the female award winners so this week it’s the turn of the older and wiser males.

Padraic McCarthy is no stranger to these awards as he has being a consistent performer over the past number of years. In 2021 Padraic was the National U18 discus champion and Silver medallist in the Shot Putt and Munster shot put champion. In 2022 Padraic was 2nd at the national U19 shot putt and National Champion in the Junior indoor WFD plus many Munster and county titles to show for his consistent work and dedication.

Kevin Lynch is a constant face in Kerry Athletics who’s focus over the past few years has been on coaching the Lios Tuathail AC sprint group. Kevin is currently the European M45 400m champion since 2019. Kevin maintained his good form over the Co-Vid years into 2021 with double Gold at the National Outdoor finals in the M45 200m and 400m. In 2022, Kevin won double Gold again in the National Indoors in the M45 200 and 400m. Kevin had a successful World Master Championships in Finland in July 2022, finishing Fifth overall in the M45 400m equalling his time from 3 years ago. Kevin went on to be part of the M40 Irish team 4 x 400m running the final leg to win Gold in an Irish record time.

Donal is a coach of Lios Tuathail AC and an inspiration to all middle distance athletes. Donal preferred distance is cross country and often can be seen down in the town park putting laps in during the winter. Donal highlight was in 2021 finishing 8th overall at National level and qualified for the for Irish Masters Team in October 2019 in Abbotstown helping the Irish team win Silver. Donal also represented Ireland at the Ireland v Northern Ireland Cross Country International finished 3rd in the M50 Category. In 2022, Donal competed at the World Masters Mountain Running Championship and secured a team silver for Ireland. Well deserved Donal.

FINUGE GAA

PITCH DEVELOPMENT: The pitch closes this week when Allman contractors move in to carry out some important work on the main pitch. It took a lot of traffic last year and this spring was also a tough one, so this work is essential to help improve the playing surface. This work is also part of the overall facility improvements the club have embarked upon following the successful major fundraiser last year. It is expected the pitch will remain closed for approx. three weeks - updates will follow.

SENIOR: The team played Austin Stacks B in the county league last Sunday. It was a tough and tight encounter with scores hard to come by for both sides. At halftime the score stood Finuge 0-03 to Austin Stack’s 0-02 and the low scoring trend would continue into the second half also. Finuge were a point up with a few minutes remaining but Stacks managed to get the equalizer before the long whistle to leave the final score Finuge 0-05 and Austin Stacks 0-05. Another point picked up helps keep the team on top of division 5A. Next up is an away game this Sunday the 30th to Lispole who are joint table toppers so an important game for both teams jostling for top spot.

MINORS: It’s a rest period for the squad for now after getting to the league final last week.

U15: Last Wednesday the team played the combination of Kerins O’Rahillys/St Pats Blennerville. Our boys put in an impressive display and certainly brought their shooting boots, scoring 7-11 to 1-07 on the night! On a bumper night for goals, the goals came from Darragh O’Sullivan x 2, Joseph McElligott x 2, Cody

KERRY U20: The U20 championship is in full swing and Finuge have a key man involved. Kieran MacKessy is in goals for Kerry and they played Clare last week in the Munster semi-final. In a game full of drama and after extra time, Kerry pulled out the victory to progress to the Munster final against old rivals Cork. The final comes around fast and is being played on Monday the 24th of April in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. The very best of luck to Kerry and our own Kieran Mac!

SYMPATHY: Finuge GAA Club wishes to extend its condolences to the Galvin family on the recent passing of Margaret Galvin, The Bridge Finuge. Margaret has been a huge supporter of our club for many decades and was a club vice president up to her passing, along with her son Jerry. The connection with the club is a long one for Margaret having seen her sons, grandchildren and currently her great grand-children playing in the green & gold of Finuge. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

ASDEE GAA

Credit Union County League Division 5 B, Asdee 1-7 -v- Rathmore 0-5, Asdee senior footballers made the long journey to Rathmore on Sunday last to take on a highly fancied local side and after a highly entertaining encounter it was the visitors that collected the league points on offer and credit to a tight marking Asdee rear-guard who dealt with the wily home attack, holding them scoreless during an exciting second half. The opening half saw play swing from end to end with little separating the sides except that the visitors were able to pick off their scores a little better when presented. Asdee were awarded a penalty in the 15th minute converted in style by Eoin Tydings but the same player faced a similar situation just on the break but the Rathmore keeper brought off a splendid save and at half time it was Asdee 1-5 to 0-5. On the restart scorers were hard to come by and with scores at a premium it was Asdee who hung on for a hard-earned victory. THE MIRACLE PRAYER

Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.

This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.

Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. J.Mc
