On Malecon Tarapaca one sees a three-story building covered top to bottom with highly stylized eight-point geometric-design tiles. In its time, the Hotel Palace was the luxury hotel, not just in Iquitos, where there were no other hotels, but it was the premier hotel in Peru, pre-dating the now better-known Hotel Bolivar in central Lima. Hotel Palace, at present defunct/state-owned, is still the most elegant building in Iquitos, and arguably one of the most beautiful build-
