2020 NEWS

LIFE IS BEST IF WE STICK TOGETHER We’ve learned to adapt and focus on the positive For the girls protection, we have been sheltering in place, not leaving at Angel’s House since March except to go to school. Sticking together grew into more than a state mandate - creating a strong bond within the Angel’s House family. Our amazing staff came alongside the girls to encourage them and find creative ways to fill their days with virtual bible studies, creative craft and service projects and modified holidays to celebrate with a quarantine twist. Our community and extended Angel’s House family rallied around us and blessed us with care packages and messages of love for the girls so they knew they were not in this alone. It has been a difficult season, but there have been powerful and inspiring moments. Who better to share these than our angels. Here is a view from inside Angel’s House in their own words… March 13, 2020 everything was closed and on lockdown due to COVID 19. Families lost their loved ones, their homes, and their businesses. This is one of the hardest times in the world. I would like to share my personal experience adapting to life at Angels House for the last eight months. At first, I would say it wasn't hard for me. I thought it would be 2 or 3 weeks of school being closed but then it turned into months. The more I heard about the pandemic the more it became real and unsettling for me. I was hearing about families struggling emotionally, physically and mentally. I became so worried for my birth family and my Angel’s House family. It was mentally draining. Like many people I was experiencing anxiety and depression. I was losing my true self, the girl who always smiled, laughed, who was loving, happy, goofy and confident in who she was and who had a strong relationship with Jesus and my family. For months I hid my feelings. I didn't tell anyone I was hurting, worrying, or struggling. Eventually, I realized I needed help. I told the V’s, who I call my mother and father. We took everything day by day. I believe the V’s and the other staff were my guardian angels. I was lost,

they helped rebuild me; they helped me find myself in Christ again. I would participate in family activities which was really fun. We played bingo, made crafts, took walks and had a virtual bible study almost every night with some of our family friends. My favorite days were the weekend because we would pick a restaurant, order food to go and eat together at home. We would talk about our highs, low, goals and our feelings during community meetings. This really helped me get my feelings out with everyone and it helped all of us come together and understand each other better. - AO - Stick Together continued on page 3

Care provided at Angel's House

The staff team at Angel’s House loves working with each girl who becomes a part of our lives and with a Board and community that are fully committed to this ministry. We strive to form a family environment that is loving, caring, and supportive of the girls who have been entrusted to us. For each life that has passed through our doors our theme verse is “I thank my God every time I remember you.” Philippians 1:3.

"The pandemic has caused a lot of stress for us in school and at home. I am so lucky to be surrounded by people who love and support me at Angel's House. They and this community have done everything they can to help me adapt and overcome the stress by helping me with my homework, or dropping off donations. I haven’t felt alone this year because I know I have a lot of people who love me.

Another thing the quarantine taught us was to be resilient! As tough as it was, the staff worked hard to make the most out of our extended time together. There were crafts, fun Friday dinners, Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations plus our annual Memorial Day Low Country Boil, QuaranThanksgiving, CHRISTmas in July and Fourth of July sparkles. At the end of the summer we received our Back-to-School supplies along with new clothes, shoes, smart watches and participated in Labor Day and 9/11 activities. Not being allowed to leave the Angel’s House property from March 13th to September 8th (end of school to back-to-school) was difficult but the thing that really helped us make it through was knowing we weren’t in it alone. Thoughtful care packages and wish list deliveries kept showing up. Even though our donors were going through tough times too, they continued to show love and care for the Angel’s House residents and our staff. It was a real encouragement!" - DC

"This pandemic crisis hasn’t been easy. I mean how do you overcome something as challenging as this? The staff here has helped a whole lot. I can’t forget either all the fun gifts and crafts that were given to us by the community. I think without the love and the support given to us, it would’ve been a long and hard time. My most favorite times were when we were able to do things together as a family. Angel’s House is already a great family unit, but you don’t experience so many hilarious moments until you are home together ALL the time. All of our supporters and all of the staff has made this time in the house amazing and I am incredibly thankful for that." - TB

"I would say that the best thing about this year is that despite the crisis we still got to have fun and live a pretty normal life even though we couldn’t leave the house. It is a time in my life that I will never forget. And I would like to say that I’m thankful for what God and our community provided for us. When we thought that nothing good was going to happen, God always gave us something new to do and learn." - AW

"We cannot adequately express just how appreciative we are to everyone who pulled together donation deliveries and special items for Angel’s House during this pandemic time! The new Smart TV and Disney+ were awesome! We can never describe to you the look on the girls’ faces when donation after donation was delivered to us from snack items to arts & craft supplies to necessary items to keep the house running. The look on their faces was priceless. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!" - Angel's House Staff

Christmas Blessings h, Come Let Us Adore Him” was the theme that ran throughout our celebrations from our devotions, to a song on the radio, a shirt worn by staff, seeing it on church signs and putting it on our thank you note. It was an important reminder of who and what we celebrate.

had been really good this year and that Santa would be sure to stop by again on Christmas Eve! Our angels were stunned with the beauty of the Georgia Governor’s Mansion while touring the Christmas Open House; and our annual family Christmas with Gary and Ann Stallings.

We were blessed by many people throughout the Christmas season: the ladies of Beta Sigma Phi Lamda Chapter came to Angel’s House for our annual wreath decorating activity along with cookies, hot chocolate, and a goodie bag for our teenage angels and the adult angels too! Some amazing people from our downtown Newnan Community hosted our angels with a Christmas party of lunch, dessert, cookies, snacks and presents. Thank You to the Golden’s Family, Mad Mexican Family, Nathan Brain, Frios, and so many more. We were surprised by a visit from Santa (Mark A Pagano) who brought something from the elves and assured our angels they

This year was special because we had one new angel and two new staff members who celebrated Christmas with us at Angel’s House for the first time. In addition, Christmas fell on a Wednesday which is changeover day when one team house parent team is going off-duty and the other team comes on. That meant our angels had a day to celebrate with both Direct Care Staff teams at the same time. It is so hard to describe the joy on their faces when they realize they received all the items on their wish list donated by the extended Angel’s House family.

We can only have the peace and joy of the season to “Come Adore Him” because we have so many amazing supporters to carry us through and help us shower our angels with love. Give Back: Taking a moment to pause and say “Thank You” to our Veterans for serving our great Country. Angel’s House provides a safe, nurturing home for teen girls in crisis. Some are removed from their homes and placed in DFCS custody because of abuse, neglect or risky behaviors. Some are transitioning between foster homes or are faced with other circumstances that require immediate assistance. The girls who come through our doors receive the shelter, structure, and care they need to maximize their potential for success. Our girls may stay for a night or several months, and thanks to your help we are able to secure their safety and well-being by providing a sense of family that lasts a lifetime. 11

Run Registration is open at: theangelshouse.org or at runforangels2021.raceroster.com In support of our angels and to ensure a safe and successful day for everyone our annual fundraising event, the Run for Angels, has a new date MARCH 27, 2021. We are moving outside to Greenville Street park adjacent to Newnan First United Methodist Church in Downtown Newnan. We are planning an in-person 5K & 1-Mile run. We are suspending the Chicken Q in 2021. Given the number of people required for food preparation and service, it is a difficult, but necessary change. We are incredibly thankful to Brenda and her Huckleberry’s team for their faithful support of Angel’s House and look forward to their return…but for 2021 we are RUNNING FOR LOVE, NOT CHICKEN. Check out our website Run for Angels page for more information including registration, and modified race route! While some elements of the Run for Angels have changed, our mission remains the same…putting hearts and soles together for our angels. We hope you and your family will join us as sponsors, participants and/or volunteers.
