A Special Thanks To Our Corporate Sponsors!
SPOTLIGHT on ‘Spring Tyme Gateway’ The Pollak Training Center's Adult Enrichment Program recently had the opportunity to hatch a chicken and watch it grow! Thanks to Hatch a Chicken Pensacola, we received an incubator that included seven eggs and everything we would need to help hatch and care for the chicks. Everyone enjoyed turning off the lights and candling the eggs to check out what was happening inside. No one wanted to miss out on seeing them hatch! Approximately 23 days later, as promised, we were parents. Everyone was so excited and amazed! Unfortunately, only one egg hatched, but we had the cutest little baby chick to care for and enjoy. One of our staff members guessed the hatch date and time within two minutes and got the pleasure of naming the chick.
Spring Tyme Gateway gave everyone hours of entertainment. Everyone watched closely as it moved from the incubator to the brooding cage, learned how to walk on its big wobbly feet, figured out how to eat and drink from feeders, and grew wing and tail feathers. After 14 days, Spring Tyme Gateway was ready to live on a farm and make friends. We miss Spring Tyme’s sweet tweeting and loud squawking, but we are happy it is healthy and now among friends. We all learned more about chickens than we will probably ever need to know, but the smiles on our participants faces as they watched the chick hatch and grow and the quiet observation time they spent just watching the chick let us know the value of the experience was immeasurable.
“Homestead Al” from Hatch a Chicken: Pensacola introduces the eggs and process of hatching the eggs to the Adult Enrichment Program.
On Thursday, April 27 at 1:23 p.m. Spring Tyme Gateway hatched its way into this world, teaching us all about the miracle of life!
In mid-May we said “good-bye” to Spring Tyme Gateway so he/she could live on a farm with friends.
