The Arc Gateway received two threeyear grants under the categories of Education and Health that totaled over $260,000. The funds will provide further support for the Pearl Nelson Child Development Center and its services. This critical funding helps ensure early intervention and pediatric therapy services are available to many children in the local community who may otherwise not receive these benefits.

Brain Bags: The Arc Gateway is part of the Early Learning City In an effort to further its mission of providing individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to learn and earn, Pollak Industries (PI) has partnered with Studer Community Institute’s (SCI)Early Learning City initiative to assemble, store and, now, deliver the IMPACT Brain Bags to area hospitals. Each bag contains a binder of information for new parents, a Pensacola-themed children’s book, a baby book for parents to track baby’s development, a small toy, and a bib. According to a blog post on Studer’s website, “Jim Rhodes, [project coordinator at PI], and his team have been invaluable partners with SCI in this project.” Thanks to the success of the initial order of bags, PI has been tasked with producing 4,100 more bags.

A message from Missy... Just a few weeks ago, we were notified that funding for our Program for Adult Learning and Support (PALS) was not only included in the legislative budget, but that it survived the Governor’s veto process as well. We are so pleased to announce that funding for PALS was continued and will enable us to keep the program going! We have already seen the benefits of the program on our students who are now employed, living a more independent life, participating fully in our community, and doing things they never thought possible. I would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported the program’s continuation and who communicated with our state legislators about the importance of PALS. Without your generous support, we may not have been fortunate this year. A special thanks goes to Belle Bear, whose efforts to maintain the program have been tireless. Without her, none of this would be possible. I continue to be amazed at what great things can happen when we all work together.

‘Paint the town’ with your support This Gallery Night, come out to the corner of Palafox and Romana Streets at the law office of Joe Zarzaur, P.A., for Legal Graffiti. Each month, Zarzaur and his team allows visitors to spray paint a paper-covered wall on his office building to benefit a local organization. In July, The Arc Gateway is in the spotlight. For a donation, anyone can “tag” the wall and the evening’s proceeds benefit The Arc Gateway. Paint is provided.
