May Day Dance 6 - 8 p.m. Zelica Grotto Hall
Just a couple weeks ago, more than 200 people gathered outdoors at our main campus to join in the 2017 Annual Meeting and BBQ. This night is special in so many ways. It is a time to socialize with children and adults we serve, families, co-workers and community supporters. We welcome our new members and induct our incoming Board Members and Trustees. We spend time celebrating the accomplishments of the past Missy Rogers, CEO year and outline goals for the future. This year, we had two very special recognitions: the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation department for their 30 year commitment to the agency and the naming of the Vincent Andry Senior Adult Center. Most importantly, we handed out awards to worthy individuals who stood out in 2016. Each person or business showed their dedication to not only our agency, but to people with disabilities as a whole. Their support, advocacy, and passion are truly amazing. I encourage you to read all the names in this newsletter and congratulate each winner, as the awards were so deserving. The highlights of the night were watching the joy on the faces of two of our winners, Tea and Zach. We are very proud of the example they have set for their peers and can’t wait to see what great things they will do next! Thank you to all those who made the evening possible and for everyone who attended. And, if you weren’t there, you missed out on the best BBQ in town, thanks to Jim and Jim! We hope to see you there next year as we continue to celebrate our successes.

SPOTLIGHT on Jeff An overwhelming number of PALS graduates have officially matriculated into the workforce—and the results are truly inspiring. By taking the time to teach our students real, marketable job skills, we have been able to place graduates in jobs that fit their interests and passions; thus putting them on the path towards reaching their goals and living meaningful lives. One such example is Jeff, a sweet, lovable young man who above all, loves to fish. Through months of training and mentoring at PALS, Jeff learned how to use a fillet knife, cut fish, and use a utility scale. He is now employed at Maria’ s Seafood, where he loves his job and is doing amazing Jeff work. His employers enjoy having him there and are constantly teaching him new skills and job tasks. The owner jokes that if he keeps telling Jeff all his secrets, he will be running things soon!
