THE EDITOR

My favorite season is here again! It feels as if this year’s summer has arrived earlier than the last. Spring and summer fused together seamlessly into Sprimmer, it just happened so quickly, all over again. Maybe it’s because of all this rain, my garden seemed to have vegetated over night. So I spent all morning preserving the plants and ridding the grass. A much cherished change of pace. Fast ward to work, flipping through a stack of editorials, which made me ponder on how everything comes around and goes around. From my stubborn grass to fashion trends and unique lifestyles. Given time, everything springs back to life again. This year’s summer look mimics the 70’s and the Victorian era, funny how we always fall back to the past to reinvent the future. Take Chicago for instance, this old metropolis has sprung to life as one of the hippest cities in America. From it’s innovative architectures to the City’s street arts to its unique shops, Chicagoan reinvented a new style of living from the past. Of course a new style of living needs a touch of history and authenticity, read on about Ranger Rover’s Holland & Holland edition, it’s a perfect balance between the old and the new. How one is important to the other and how everything comes around and reinvents itself.

What comes to mind if you heard the name Holland & Holland? If you say Tulips and Windmills, then you’re not alone. After all, the Netherlands are famous for their tourism. What I’m about to tell you not only has nothing to do with the Netherlands but it’s It’s a house that holds two Royal warrants of appointment, which made products since you know when. Their royal customers are from United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Japan and of course China. Yes, we’re talking about the Qing Dynasty! So what exactly is Holland & Holland you ask? Well, although they are now jack of all trades, they even make an edition of turer by Harris Holland in 1835. Until this day, Holland & Holland still uses all the traditional gun making methods. Filed actions to great precision using the “oil black” method, hand struck barrels, hand shaped stocks and checkering, etc. Depending on the model of gun, from 650 man hours to well over 1250 man hours will be involved making it. And no part of a Holland & Holland gun is interchangeable, it is always made especially for the gun down to the smallest pin! Combine these abilities with the quality of steel available today, and it will be no surprise Holland & Holland has some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic craftsmen building the best guns ever.

slowly approached the temple. When we arrived at the temple,

I got closer, I could see that every small detail was well thought out. As I studied the captivating temple and garden I could hear people laughing and bells chiming. The smell of incense and yummy, delicious food was everywhere. Seeing people from all over the world enjoying such a historic place made me so proud of being half Japanese. I observed both locals and foreigners praying to the god of the temple and was truly amazed by how this temple was bringing people from all over the world into one place. Bringing people together, that is what is important and I saw that at the Sens -ji Temple. Japan is such a unique place for many reasons, from its thousand-year-old temples and memorable gardens to its food and music. However, I believe that one of the main reasons Japan is so unique is that the Japanese continue to keep their traditions. One of the greatest traditions that Japan still keeps is the kimono. The kimono is an article of clothing that is made with fabric and cut with the `straight- line` method. This method was very useful because it was only required to cut the fabrics in a straight line and sew them together. The length of a kimo-

around your hips. Most adult size kimonos are usually all the same length and the length is adjusted with the koshi himo. The Kimono is from the Heian Period of Japan which was from 7941192. The Heian Period is the last classical division of Japanese History. The kimono was used for everyday wear but today it is only used for weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. In the Japanese tradition, when a girl turns 20 years old it is a tradition for her to wear a kimono. In Japanese this is called seijin-shiki (say-jin-she-kee) which means coming of age. The coming of age has been celebrated since the year 714. The girl wears a kimono and has a ceremony to celebrate her transition from girl to women. Although a year late I was able to celebrate my coming of age this time when I was in Japan. I wore a kimono and took a few pictures to keep this moment forever with me. I remember wearing kimonos at a young age and always feeling like a princess. From my hello kitty kimonos to the kimono photos I took as a young girl. I am so happy that I get to share a few of these pictures with you! Luckily Felipe was with me and we were able to take a few photos together. We had a great time taking these kimono pictures together. It was truly a picture perfect moment, a moment that I would imagine in movie scene. As we were taking the kimonos pictures I could hear the birds chirp-

Japan will forever remain in my heart as a home. Every city carries such a beautiful essence and strong pride in their own traditions. From the delicious sushi to the handmade kimonos, and unique activities, Japan is such a great place to travel with family and friends. I highly recommended that everyone try to visit at least once in their lifetime. Japanese people will welcome you with such loving eyes and warm hospitality. I was so happy to see that Felipe fell in love with the country too,
