LETTER

t’s amazing how quickly summer has seemed to come around this year.

It seems like only yesterday we were launching our first winter issue. Two issues later and I welcome you to sit down, relax, and enjoy The Beauty Bible summer release. After putting this issue together sleep seems to be a distant memory of mine - however, all of those long hours and never ending email threads have paid off. This one is quite definitely my favourite so far. Jam packed with epic content from so many talented girls and a brand new wedding section just in time for wedding season - with only 4 months until my own, putting this section together has really got my mind in full blown bride mode. We also focused more on bringing some more style features to this issue with a stunning editorial shoot and some incredible style gurus sharing their tips and tricks. We also touch on some important and topical issues in our inner beauty section that I feel will benefit our lovely readers. I wish you all a safe and happy summer - Enjoy! BOLD BEAUTY & BEAUTIFUL

IN MY BEAUTY BAG With Ash Owens Bright, fun colours and sexy dewy skin are the things I get most excited about when it comes to summer! I am a lover of coloured eyeshadow, glitter and shimmers, peachy bright cheeks, and a bold, spicy lip in the warmer months. Naturally my makeup bag is always looking pretty fun and exciting come December! To celebrate the Kiwi summer heading our way, I wanted to share my makeup bag staples and let you know about all of the products that I am obsessed with right now. These are going to give you that dewy, bright, shimmery, beautiful makeup look that we are all after for those balmy summer nights ahead. It Cosmetics CC Cream AKA my holy grail status foundation. It is pretty dewy, so add a bit of powder but this base is honestly the most beautiful foundation I have ever put on my skin. This stuff literally looks like your own skin once it is applied. It is a medium to buildable coverage and includes skincare ingredients to ensure that your skin is being looked after while there is makeup on it - not to mention it is SPF 50! The ultimate summer foundation.

MAC Blush in ‘Peaches’ A peachy cheek has been my favourite summer beauty must have for years now! I have never come across another blush that nails the perfect peach shade that ‘Peaches’ by MAC. It blends beautifully and adds just the right amount of colour!

www.ashowens.com

VB X Estee Lauder Aura Gloss Victoria Beckham’s favourite product from her collab with Estee Lauder and my absolute obsession. If you need any of these staple products, you need this one. It is a shimmery gloss, but don’t be fooled by its simplicity. I apply it onto my lips, with or without lipstick, to the high points of my face as a highlighter, as well as onto my eye lids to really vamp up the shimmer on any eye look. I literally keep this baby in my hand bag for a 24/7 highlight top up! Lancome Matte Juicy Shaker in ‘Magic Orange’ One of the best lip formulas that the beauty inductry has ever been blessed with, the Lancome Matte Juicy Shakers are absolutely fantastic. They are matte but the don’t dry out your lips, they are also so ridiculously comfortable and the shade range is beyond gorgeous. The shade ‘Magic Orange’ is my favourite for the heated months! The Balm Nude Beach Palette If any of you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know how obsessed I am with this palette. The left side has all of the peachy, apricot pink shades you could possibly need for a summery eye look and the right hand side has all of the deeper, sexier bronzey colours to vamp things up for an evening look. Put it this way, I haven’t used any other eye palette for about three months. You need it!

COLOUR ME HAPPY With Charlotte Victoria The idea of using colour in your everyday makeup routine may be a scary one for some people. However seeing as summer is just around the corner, the time for experimenting with lighter and brighter colours is here! Recently I have been experimenting with many different colourful looks and it has felt so refreshing to step of my usual ‘Neutral-Comfort-Zone’ to mix up my makeup looks. Incorporating a pop of colour into an everyday look is much easier than you may think and I’m going to share a couple of easy and simple ways it can be achieved. These two easy ways don’t have to be worn together, however if you are feeling adventurous go for it!

Pop of colour on the lips Using a nude lip liner line and fill in the lips. I find using a nude lip pencil with a bold lipstick can tone down the brightness of the shade and also prolongs the wear of the lipstick.

2.

1.

Taking the bright lipstick of your choosing apply on the lips. So simple!

TIP: If you find the shade of lipstick you’ve chosen too bright once applied, you can always take a tissue and blot off some off the colour. Alternatively dabbing a nude lipstick over the bright shade can also take the colour down a notch.

PRODUCTS USED Urban Decay lip pencil in shade ‘Illegal’ MAC Cosmetics lipstick in ‘Girl About Town’

Charlotte Victoria

@charlottevictoriaxx

Pop of colour on the lower lash line

Start of with your usual eye-look. For me this means a simple brown eyeshadow buffed through my crease and onto the outer part of my lid.

2.

Choose the colour you want to add. One of my favourite colours to incorporate is purple so I take the coloured eyeliner pencil and run that on my lower-lashline. Taking a pencil brush I then buff out this pencil with an eyeshadow of the same choosen shade of colour.

1.

TIP: If you blend the eyeshadow/ eyeliner too far down take a cream shade of eyeshadow and clean up the look

Take a white eyeliner pencil (I applied with it a brush) and run this along the inner-waterline. This step is totally optional but I think it really makes the colour POP and adds some

3.

Add your favourite lashes and mascara to finish off the look, it’s as simple as that!

4. PRODUCTS USED Lashes : Ardell Demi Whispies Maybelline Colossal Big Shot mascara

A DAY IN THE LIFE With Jess Collard Ever wondered how all those gorgeous beauty items we buy (a little too often) make their way into our hands? Imagine being the person behind it all. Buying endless amounts of makeup - Every. Single. Day. Imagine no more. Meet Jess - Fast Moving Cosmetics Buyer for New Zealand’s biggest department store, Farmers. She reveals what it is like to live every girls makeup dream. We are all Beauty Buyers in our own right; I have just been lucky enough to make it my fulltime job. Shopping the world of cosmetics for a living is a dream come true but certainly no Sunday afternoon window shop. It is a balancing act of differing opinions, a customer that is spoilt for choice, sleep depriving deadlines and a budget that is not yours to blow. Despite its challenges you will find me at my desk from 7am each morning working on our next window of opportunity within this rapidly evolving industry. My first ‘real’ job, as a fresh faced 15 year old, was manning the till point of the Toy Department at my local Farmers store as a Christmas Casual. I had always loved shopping and this job was a means to an end; generally in the form of fashion. 12 years on, a Business Degree under my belt and several rungs up the Farmers ladder I am now the Fast Moving Cosmetics Buyer at Head office. In this role I manage over 20 mass beauty brands commonly referred to now, thanks to YouTube tutorials, as ‘drugstore’ brands. With low price point product, constant new entrants in to our arena and the need for speed in response to trends my suite of brands are constantly under scrutiny by the millennial consumer. While I love her and I am her at 27 years old; she is a tricky one to keep happy and has made my work life almost as complicated as my love life over the last year. She is not brand loyal, she is a self-educated beauty expert that literally knows best and will go beyond our borders to get the latest & greatest product on offer. My challenge is to surprise and delight her amongst some tough competition but also maintain our loyal customer base. Having new brands to bring to market and share with New Zealand woman is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. Rather than counting sheep at night I scroll through my Instagram feed accumulating the latest beauty trends. While there is a lot of opportunity, the logistics involved in bringing a new brand to the shop floor when we are small country at the bottom of the world is one of our biggest barriers. For the love of beauty and like-minded beauty lovers this is a challenge I accept.

@beauty_farmer 14.

One thing I have learnt over my years in this industry is that once you are part of the beauty movement you are mostly likely in it for the rest of your career. Whilst fun & fast paced it has the ability to empower. The product that we buy allows a woman to express her individuality, the confidence she needs to get through the day and the ability to own a piece of luxury. Despite all the stresses and challenges that come with this role this industry gives hope that the fresh face you started your career with can just maybe be maintained.

VANITY TOUR With Kasia Stanicich If you are obsessed with makeup (which is highly likely if you are reading this magazine) then you would have seen the ‘pinworthy’ makeup storage ideas and beauty room set-ups all over the internet. Christchurch based makeup artist Kasia decided to create her own little corner of heaven. Obsessed is an understatement. Since day one, before I decided to delve into Makeup Artistry as my full time career, I have ALWAYS wanted one of ‘those’ setups. I’ve pinned numerous ideas for storage, measured every corner of my house and sat watching how the sun effects my makeup area. About this time last year, I started drawing plans for what is effectively a miniature kitchen (without all of the bells and whistles) and my makeup set-up was born. A local joinery company put it all together for me, including soft-close drawers and a built in rubbish bin. I then sourced a large mirror and had some LED strips put in to frame it. Once it was all installed *squeeeels!!* I went on the hunt for the perfect drawer organisation for the inside. I had my heart set on acrylic but my bank account sadly didn’t co-operate, so I hunted out some white plastic trays from my local Mitre 10. They were a few dollars each and come in multiple sizes and shapes. I squeezed a few in per draw (you can also cut them to size if you’ve got the guts) and began filling!

kasiastanicich.com 16.

The next qualm was what on earth I was going to fill all my visible space with?! Over the past year each cube has changed and as I have grown my collection I have needed to use this space to store more things! Some of my all time favourites are my The Cosmetic Box acrylic storage (I have the palette holder and the black compact holder) to display my favourites, as well as old packaging boxes to hold receipts and odd-bods. My MAC lipstick collection grew far faster and far larger than I had planned, so I also picked up some acrylic drawers from Once It and filled them to the brim with the black bullets. These also perfectly fit pigments, glosses and pencils! In addition, my brush holders are old Glasshouse Candle jars and house some of my favourite face and eye brushes. I still have huge plans for the area, including extending it out to include deeper drawers (my only regret) and more table space to work with for clients. I’m now super lucky to have clients visit a welcome, friendly space, and I have an awesome set-up full of all of my favourite things!

BLENDED BEAUTY With Debbie Parlakchief Finding that perfect foundation for your skin type, or seeking out the ideal lip colour for your outfit can come as a challenge to many. It was this challenge that sent Debbie Parlakchief, owner of Doll Face Cosmetics, on a mission to create a place where women can find their perfect match. This was when Blend Beauty was created - New Zealand’s first custom blend bar where you can customise your cosmetics and find that ultimate fit. How long have you been in the beauty industry? 20 years now. I started as a Nail Tech in 1997, then trained in Beauty Therapy in 2000. I have always had a huge passion for nails and makeup. How did you get into creating cosmetics? I was an at home mum with 3 kids. Itching to get back into the industry, my husband suggested I do makeup artistry for brides etc. So I searched on what products to buy and found a lady in USA that made her own loose pigments. I searched more and got interested in how she did that. After a lot of research I brought my first tiny order of raw cosmetic ingredients and it went from there. I never intended to start a brand. That sort of just happened. Where did the idea for a custom blend bar come from?

So I was doing it anyway but in a long process. I streamlined it to be a service that we could do in front of the customer. It is a super fun thing to do with friends or alone. What kinds of products do you make? Doll Face started as mineral makeup products, pressed eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, loose powder foundation, lip gloss and lipstick. Since then I have expanded into skin care, face primers, HD Powders, candles, body care, eyelashes and also Doll Face Erase makeup remover cloths. We do however have a full range of makeup products! How has the blend bar been received by the public? Amazingly well! Not only do you get the exact lip colour you are after, it is a super fun experience on its own! We have been hosting alot of group bookings lately. Birthdays and Hens parties! What do you see for the future of your business? I would love to expand Blend into the rest of NZ. Im still in the workings of finding the right way to do it. Whether it be a franchise system, or licensing for other salons to just take on Blend and add it into their own salons. We will be opening in Whangarei very shortly. Blend will be added to an existing salon up there. Super exciting!

I found that I was recreating lipsticks for customers that wanted to match a shade that had been deleted, or match an outfit.

SPRAY TANNING 101

With Rachel Mackwood It’s the weekend, you have an important event to go to, you need to look hot, quick. Why did you not think about this before? You seriously can not get your pale pins out and pretend they are not glowing white. The idea of self tanning pops into your head… How hard can it be? With your can of mousse or spray ready you go into battle and within minutes the regret starts to creep in and your bathroom now looks like a crime scene. We’ve all seen those tanning disasters. Too orange, streaky legs, over tanned hands or tans so brown you wonder whether they are made of chocolate. However, there are some simple tips and tricks with spray tanning that you can do to help avoid this happening to you. My number one tip would be to find a spray tan technician that is experienced. Spray tanning is an easy job if you are spraying someone else and can see all the areas of the body that need to be covered. Your experienced spray tanning technician will use a pattern to ensure all areas of the body are covered evenly and correctly. Each spray tanning technician may have a slightly different method but generally you will be asked to get into certain positions so they can spray areas that are hard to reach yourself.

Your spray tan technician will give you a disposable paper G string to wear during the tanning procedure. Don’t be shy, remember this is their job, so they see many bodies of all shapes and sizes every day. I would also recommend that whilst you’re being tanned you wear a hair net, this ensures that any spray tan overspray does not settle on the hair, especially if it is light or blonde in colour. Remember to pull your ears out from the net as you do want them to be slightly tanned too. It is important that you tell your spray tan technician if you would like your face to be sprayed. A light spray across the face can even out the colour you have on your body however some people don’t like to be sprayed on the face due to breakouts, skin conditions and age. If you have rosacea I would strongly recommend that you do not have your face sprayed as it can often aggravate the situation. Even the most organic tanning solutions will contain some DHA, something that rosacea can react to. I personally enjoy having just a light spray across my face that I can then build up with a bronzer for a more tanned look if I am away on holiday. I love the feeling of not wearing makeup when I’m in a hot country so for me this is perfect!

With tans generally costing between $40-$50 and the duration being all of 20 minutes, it is well worth going to see someone to do it for you rather than risking it yourself.

Applying a thin layer of barrier cream to the palms of hands, over the nails, toes and heels will ensure the ultimate protection against tanning areas that need to be protected. Also standing on disposable feet will help keep the bottom of your feet from getting tanned.

Another tip is preparing the skin before the tan. This will help ensure that your tan looks flawless and lasts its maximum time.

Follow all of these steps and you are set for a safe sun-free glow this summer!

To prepare the skin you should exfoliate at least 24 hours before the tan. Using gentle circular motions with either a glove or an exfoliating cream you will gently remove the dead skin cells from the skin surface. Go easy on areas such as the chest, neck and tummy and especially if you have sensitive skin. You may need to concentrate on rough areas such as the feet (don’t forget those heels), elbows, knees and hands. After exfoliating you want to try and build up some kind of layer of pH again for your skin again by applying lots of thick moisturiser (a body oil or butter is perfect.) I personally love applying an organic coconut oil all over after the exfoliation step as this really helps build up the fatty acid’s in the skin for a great tanning surface. Just remember, don’t apply any moisturiser on the day you are getting your spray tan. It is also important not to wear any deodorant or perfume on the day you are being tanned due to the chemicals reacting with the tan.

TRIED & TESTED: PERFECT PEARLY WHITES Beauty Bible editor Leah tries out the new Brighter Smile Home Teeth Whitening System. These are her results.

solution runs out all you have to do is purchase more syringes and you are good to go.

There is something about having a nice smile that gives you that ultimate boost of self confidence. Being happy with your teeth not only makes you look great but it makes you feel great too. When people look at me the first thing I notice is their smile, so ultimately I have always been conscious of my own. The ability to flash a grin without shying away is important. It means confidently holding a conversation, and no more hiding when someone brings out their phone to take a photo . For me, having white teeth is even higher on my priority list than having a nice tan.

THE PROCESS

However, as much as I love a glowing smile it is difficult to find the time and the money to go to a dentist and have my teeth professionally whitened. So I have always been a huge fan of home whitening products. I have tried them all - toothpastes, gels, strips, and that little led light that every single Instagram model I follow seems to love. I was ready to try something new! Brighter Smile is a teeth whitening dental clinic based in Auckland. They offer in-clinic professional teeth whitening services and have recently released their new at-home whitening kits for those wanting a more DIY approach. Just what I needed!

THE PRODUCT The Brighter Smile at home whitening system is different from any other whitening product that I have tried. Because it is created by professional technicians, the whitening solution is a strong, high quality formula that gives you results fast! The kit includes a dental impression kit, custom made whitening trays, and multiple whitening gel syringes. The best part is that you can re-use your custom trays for over a year and when your

My favourite part about this product is how it is made just for you. The first step in the process is creating a mould to fit your teeth perfectly. You are given a dental impression kit which you mould to fit around your teeth. After you have created your moulds, you then send it away and within a few days receive custom whitening trays perfectly aligned to your natural mouth and teeth shape. Having customized trays means that the whitening solution perfectly covers all of your teeth for more targeted whitening! It also ensures that no damage is caused to your gums making it safer than over the counter products or other online teeth whitening kits. The trays are made from a thin, flexible material that is virtually unnoticeable! I have been wearing mine at night when watching tv or catching up on work and it is so comfortable it is easy to forget I am wearing it.

THE RESULTS I saw a huge change in my teeth after about a week of using the teeth whitening kit. I would use the trays for 30-60 minutes every night for the first few nights and then eventually increased the duration to 1-2 hours per session. After about 5-6 days the stains and yellow areas on my teeth had faded significantly and I began to see results. I am still currently using the kit every couple of days for ongoing whitening and I am loving my new smile. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to brighten their grin for a wedding, big event, or just everyday whitening. THE MIRACLE OF OLAPLEX

With Brooke Mann Summer is here ladies! With the warmer weather fast approaching, I am finding most of my clients are now wanting to go lighter and brighter with their hair which can be drying and damaging. Environmental changes in summer like spending all day at the beach in the sun, and the salt water, or swimming in chlorinated pools, along with using more heat tools to style manes for all the summer socializing. It all takes a toll on your hair. That was before the miracle product Olaplex came along. A few years ago I was dreading all the dry broken hair that my clients would come to their appointments with, I was like whhhhyyyy! Why cant you use your treatments, rinse your hair after going in the ocean, we cant go that blonde unless you want it to all snap off! It was the same every summer, and this was back when I lived in Sydney so you can imagine.

The concentrated first salon step rebuilds broken disulfide bonds and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing the hair. The second salon step continues to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds ensuring the strongest, shiniest, and healthiest hair possible. And number 3 is the final retail step that provides my clients continuous protection from ongoing damage at home. So at your next hair appointment please ask your colourist about this miracle product! Your hair will love you forever.

Finally I came across Olaplex and it changed my world of hair forever! The 3 step system allows us as hairdressers to push the boundaries of colour, and if the whole system is used correctly it provides the ultimate breakage insurance which is a total must for summer time.

DESIGNER SUCCESS

With Donielle Brooke No matter what life threw at her she persisted and became a success. We were lucky enough to chat with original girl boss Donielle Brooke about her Designer Wardrobe success and exciting new store. What made you want to start Designer Wardrobe? I created Designer Wardrobe when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. As I was unsure how long I would be off work for, I needed to sell my clothing to pay off bills. I had always had the idea, I decided then and there it was time to make it happen! Where did the idea come from? I loved secondhand shopping and I would often be online trying to find my next treasure. However, I felt the experience could be a lot more inspiring and wondered why someone hadn’t created Designer Wardrobe. That’s when it all started! What do you think made it such a huge success? I think it’s become a success because NZ woman are enjoying using DW as a tool to be smart with their shopping. They love that they can clean out their wardrobe on DW to buy new season items, while renting dresses when they have events. This then allows them to own more everyday clothing while spending less. Do you have any future plans for the business? We have lots of exciting plans! We are about to launch our new platform on web and mobile that has some really great new features. We have started our own rental concept store, and DW Mens is about to launch with a new fresh look! Whatwasyourfirsteverpieceofdesignerclothing? It was a Karen Walker dress that I went and got for a job interview! I have been addicted to it since.

OFF THE RUNWAY: TOURIST FASHION FOR 2018

With Courtney Devereux If the catwalks this season have been anything to go by, Tourist Fashion is coming in hard and fast. It’s a style that says, ‘I don’t fit in here, nor can I be bothered trying’, so how, or why, has the trend leached its way onto our high-fashion runways. It’s unsurprising that tourism chic was one of the biggest (if not the biggest) trends on the European Spring/Summer 2018 runways. After all, just about every other dad-centric, traditionally unfashionable look has been given the luxury treatment in recent seasons. Runways such as Balenciaga, Paul Smith, and Louis Vuitton gave a paid homage to the very loud Hawaiian shirt, the backbone of any tourist suitcase. The most coveted variation came via Louis Vuitton, who updated the look with logos and organza overlays. Tropical graphics found their way onto coats, pants, and shorts. Head-to-toe tropical prints at both AMI, where a bold Hawaiian work jacket was paired with matching Bermuda shorts, and Alexander McQueen, who offered a looser, hand-drawn version of the classic print. As a strong advocate for the convenience of a bum-bag, it is great to see them retake the stage for designers such as Louis Vuitton, Supreme, and Prada. From outlandish prints to a humble yet sophisticated bum-bag, the trend gives anyone the opportunity to mix Miami Gangster with dad at the beach.

True to tourist form, Khakis took no prisoners as they swished down almost all runways. From oversized at Acne Studios, GmbH and Louis Vuitton to full-blown khaki rompers at Birkenstock, this travel favourite was everywhere.

Officine Generale Short Sleeve Dario Print Bowling Shirt RRP $235

Tourist fashion is without a doubt based on the consumer desire for practicality, yet now high fashion has taken a gender-neutral stake and made it so much more. Although a clique, what you wear depends on the attitude you wear it with. Yet the line between ‘lost tourist’ and a fashion statement is very thin. Madewell Packable Straw Hat RRP $75.10

@cptdevereux 32.

Flip-flops and slides looked uncharacteristically cool on the runways, with Vuitton, Haider Ackerman and J.W. Anderson all adorning their models with the classic footwear. Flip-flops weren’t the only footwear designers culled from dad’s travel wardrobe; clunky runners were everywhere, which was especially fitting for the numerous outdoor presentations (or in Dior’s case, Astroturf). The best of the bunch came from Y/Project, whose brown runners are so wrong, they’re (almost) right.

If you’re going to rock a tourist fashion piece - or god forbid every piece at once - make sure you do so confidently. The tourist aesthetic may be specifically unfashionable, yet there is no doubt it will be one of the biggest trends in 2018.

AU NATUREL

With Holly Wright This summer it’s all about neutral tones. There is something so chic and polished about an all neutral look. Crisp creams, sands and refined taupes are all so big for this season and are so easy to incorporate into your style this Summer. Look into your wardrobe and you’ll probably find you already own so many neutral pieces. They usually play the role as building blocks or the foundation pieces of our wardrobes. We team them with prints and statement pieces to keep our outfits from looking to ‘OTT’. But this season it’s all about pushing them to the forefront and wearing them head to toe! Mixing different shades and throwing in some gorgeous natural accessories for an effortless Summer vibe. One of the keys to keeping this look youthful and fresh is by mixing up different fabrics and textures. Neutrals in a brushed linen will keep things interesting and neutrals in a beautiful silk will make this look super luxe and polished. Try mixing a slouchy linen tee with a silk maxi skirt for day or a silk cami with a brushed linen blazer or mini skirt for night. Add a few key accessories such as a handwoven bag, a beautiful statement earring or layer a few delicate gold chains around the neck and you are well on your way to easy but stylish summer dressing. Here’s my take on how to wear this all neutral palette.

STYLE TIPS Here’s a few tips on how to incorporate neutrals into your wardrobe. A woven bag is so french and so effortless. This gorgeous one featured is by @reverii and is one of my absolute favourites. Pair it with a little silk dress and espadrilles for an easy, but chic daytime look. Neutral heels and sandals go with everything you own and also have the bonus of making your legs look that little bit longer. Try Country Road and Witchery for some cute flat and heeled options.

STYLE NOTES Khaki Wrap Blouse • Glassons $39.99 Nude pleated skirt • Country Road $159 Belt and Slides • Gucci Bag • Reverii $99 Silk Midi Slip • Bec and Bridge from Superette Store $289 Hat • Country Road $89.90 Necklace • Reliquia - Ellis and Friends $159 Earrings • Gucci Linen Skirt and Top Set • Esther Boutique $129 Bag • Vintage Chanel from Farfetch Slides • Hermès

BEAUTY NOTES For the shoot I prepped my face with ‘Sunless Tanning Serum’ by Coola, this is such a beautiful face product for achieving a gorgeous, natural glow all year around. For the body I used Bondi Sands Tanning Foam in Dark which is so easy to apply and gives such a natural, bronzed look. For nails I used a beautiful neutral colour by Essie called ‘Saint Tropez’. This is my go-to shade for Summer as it looks so chic with pretty much every outfit. For eyes I buffed in the ‘Illusion D’Ombre’ eyeshadow by Chanel in the colour ‘Emerveille’ all over my lids and finished with lashings of Diorshow Mascara. Chanel ‘Soleil de Tan’ is one of my favourite bronzers for summer as it really gives the skin a beautiful glow without looking too heavy. I buffed this into my cheekbones and around my hairline using the Real Techniques stippling brush. To finish, a touch of Tom Ford ‘Rouge À Lèvres’ lippie in the colour ‘Blush Nude’, the most perfect nude shade you’ll ever find!

Neutral pieces become the foundation of your wardrobe so try to invest in quality cuts and fabrics such as linen and silk. Glassons has such a great range of stylish but very affordable linen pieces at the moment as does Country Road. By stocking your wardrobe with a few new neutral pieces your styling options will instantly double as they will help create new ways to wear all of those statement or printed pieces you own. Just remember to have your tan in check as neutrals really pop

ON TREND SUMMER FASHION FORECAST ‘17

With The Wardrobe Blog This summer, style has never been easier or fun. With current trends drawing from a multitude of influences, fashion is now less about key pieces and instead focused on a handful of signature aesthetics. Ranging from the grunge of the 90’s, to the soft and delicate feminine whimsy of the 70’s, there is a wide variety of styles to draw from for your summer wardrobe. Reflecting on NZFW 2017, these are some of the trends you will want to put your signature on this summer.

Kathryn Wilson also used clashing textures blended with embroidery showing a bright, fun approach to this current trend. With bold doses of metallic gold and pastel pinks, models took to the runway in the some of the most notable statement sandals and heels of the week, the striking contrast paving the way for an uninhibited feel. Whether you go monochrome or

BLOCK COLOURS

TRANS-SEASONAL PIECES

Bright colours are taking over, and this season you can mix and match them to suit your mood. Clashing paintbox shades, in block tones or dynamic prints and the more adventurous the better. One of the designers at NZFW leading this trend was PIA Boutique, notably for her bold vivid prints and bright unapologetic colours.

Now more so than ever, the designer focus on trans-seasonal pieces has been dominating the runway both locally and abroad.

Block colours featured throughout the collection, and alongside the brighter jewel shades, pastels are still around for the new season too. Softer pinks, creams, and paler shades of blue return in their pure forms. Huffer’s finale show also featured these shades continuing through to Winter 2018, reflecting the current mindset of less is more. Don’t be afraid to get creative with colour and print in large doses.

rainbow this summer, get creative with texture.

Throughout NZFW ‘17 designers showed a turn towards the timeless. From creators like Tanya Carlson to Pia Boutique, trans-seasonal hero pieces are a wardrobe must-have this summer. With many current collections moving as fast as your new instagram feed, trans-seasonal pieces are designed with a more effortless aesthetic and are made to blend between seasons. Fashion is beginning to favour the longevity of garments, and timeless is in to stay.

PLAYFUL TEXTURE From lighter playful collections such as Kathryn Wilson’s return to the 60’s, through to the darker romantic aesthetic of Stolen Girlfriends Club, eye catching textures are playing a large role this summer. Infused with a rocker chick feel, the new collection “ Safer than Heaven” by Stolen Girlfriend’s Club is a somewhat transseasonal collection. It features an edgy combination of sheer fabrics, mesh and leather with statement metallic fabrics that catch the eye.

WEDDING REPORT: TRENDS FOR 2018

With Kim Houston Think black regency romance, matte silver & gold metallics, inky blue and airy ostrich feathers! These are just some of the 2018 bridal colour palette and texture trends popping up on fashion week catwalks across the world. If you want to add a touch of modern edginess to your wedding day look, then ‘Black is the new white.’ Black was featured everyone on Bridal Fashion week runways, from black trims, full ostrich ballgown skirts, to embellished hair adornments. Wedding dresses with ‘illusion’ backs and necklines featuring ornate applique, and high necked Victoriana lace overlays are very on trend. Waist ‘cut-out’ dresses, keyhole necklines and plunging necklines, along with etheral capes make a bold design statement and create a ‘wow’ factor. Gone is the straight hair – think Rapunzel-like plaits, topknots and slicked-back high ponytails, or soft waves for 2018. You may have heard the rumours that the futuristic rainbow metallic ‘holographic’ trend is here, and whilst not everyone’s ‘cup of tea’, is making a statement in the fashion world (Particularly with the young ones). Dress designers are adding holographic elemens to their designs, make up artists are adding pearlesent lipsticks, shimmering highlighters and chromatic eyeshadows to their beauty collection, and lighting companies are getting are also getting in on the action. I couldn’t resist, and even bought a cutlery set to see what all the ‘buzz’ was about. The jury’s still out!

Whist predicted trends are all very well and good, the details of your wedding day should work together to tell your story and infuse both of your personalities into the day with unforgettable moments, and touches that your guests will talk about for years to come. You might want a modern day wedding with traditional elegant elements, and think that combining a Gatsby style ceremony with holographic styling at your reception will keep you up with the Jones’s – this fusion speaks disaster! Stick to one theme, a comprobable colour palette, and don’t let outside influences (and too much Pinterest) rule your life. We’re very excited about the ostrich feather trend, and have created this ‘Feathered Finery’ moodboard featuring Pantone’s ‘Harbor Mist’ and ‘Coconut Milk’ from the 2018 Spring colour palette collection. Featuring antique gold accents, and black regency effortlessly connects the 20s with modern day romance. Simplistic Scandinavian style tablescapes with beautiful linen, matte cutlery, greenery, and tapered glowing candles set at varying heights will create a majestic, yet romantic setting.

THE WEDDING DIARIES

With Megan Hutchison Meet Megan - the face behind wedding blog ‘She Said Yes’ and founder of ‘Little White Book’ & ‘I Still Do’. Not only is she the ultimate girl boss, but she is quite definitely the best person you could ask for wedding advice. We asked Megan a few questions about her journey and her wedding day tips. How did the idea for She Said Yes come about? She Said Yes came out of my own engagement. I really enjoyed planning my wedding, and didn’t find it nearly as complicated as I felt the wedding industry, magazines and Pinterest would lead you to believe it is, so She Said Yes was created to help other brides-to-be and couples plan their wedding easily. How has it grown since you started? The one real frustration I had about wedding planning, was that I didn’t like the wedding diary I had, and couldn’t find anything better, which began the journey to create the ‘Little White Book’ which is a wedding organiser and diary. The blog also grows with me - so this year, on our wedding anniversary, I was thinking about ways to make our anniversary special, and how we could remember it, and remember our lives, in years to come. That’s how ‘I Still Do’ was created. More recently, I also wanted to find ways to spread what I think is a really important message to brides. I want to tell every bride-to-be and couple, that their wedding will be the happiest, most magical day of their lives, even if they don’t want to spend a fortune; follow every custom or tradition; or invest in every wedding vendor available. That’s why I’ve created an interview series, and events, called Bride Tribe, sharing a bride’s unique journey, what is special to her, what she values and what she foregoes. You know that oft-cited quote ‘Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favourite’? I want to rewrite that to ‘Every wedding is beautiful, but ours is my favourite’ - because just as every love story is unique, so should our weddings be. Unique, personal and special. That’s really how She Said Yes has grown, too, to ensure that message flows through all the advice and articles I share. That is what’s most important.

www.shesaidyes.co.nz 50.

Did you ever think that blogging about your wedding planning would turn into such a huge business? Absolutely not! Perhaps I wouldn’t have spent six years studying, or so many years working as a lawyer, had I known this opportunity was out there for me, or knew how passionate I would become about this industry, and my business. However, I’m definitely a ‘Yes’ person and like to see opportunity in everything, and I think that usually, when you follow your dreams and passions, the stars align. Even when I’d just started but already had a lot of readers, I began realising there was an opportunity for me to actually write a book (rather than publish a diary), or sell a range of wedding accessories. I definitely didn’t immediately think I’d be self-publishing my own books, though, or have any of the recognition I’ve been lucky to have this year. What was the hardest part about planning your wedding? Nothing was ‘hard’, and wedding planning doesn’t have to be ‘hard’, but I suppose there must be things which are more challenging than others. I think people are always the most challenging - some people will blow you away with their generosity with time and help, and others you thought you could rely on will be difficult about invitations, seating plans, helping out on the day, etc. What was the best part? Definitely the people! Being among the people you’ve hand-picked, the most important and amazing people who have impacted your life and will be part of it in the future; creating this unforgettable day with them that you can replay over and over between yourselves, and with your friends; having this one day to celebrate your unique love and being able to share it with your favourite people in the world - that’s everything. What is the best piece of advice you would give to brides to be when it comes to planning the big day? Haha, you mean besides buy the little white book, right? K.I.S.S. Keep it Simple & Sweet - do only what makes you truly happy; have only those elements that have personal meaning to you both; think about what remains beyond the big day - photos of smiles, kisses, and the love and life you have to look forward to.

BRIDAL BEAUTY PREP

With Hannah Marinkovich Getting ready for a wedding is a major and exciting time in your life. I had so much fun prepping for mine and my beauty routine started months out. The most important thing for your big day in terms of beauty is that you FEEL your most beautiful. Everything else then follows. From the simplest little tips to getting treatments done I think the key is sticking to a routine. Having a routine and consistency gets you results. I’m so excited to share mine with you and hopefully you can take something away whether it is to prepare you for your big day or a similar event, or just for your everyday life - I hope this can help you to feel your best you! I think I have quite a holistic approach to beauty, which I took quite seriously leading up to my wedding as it was all about feeling my best. When your insides are happy you glow on the outside! I made sure to drink 8 glasses of water a day, as well as eating clean. In preparation, I stepped up my weekly yoga classes which helps increase blood circulation and reduce toxins in the body and it most definitely helped with reducing my stress levels of planning a wedding! I had a good routine established for nourishing my insides and definitely did the same for the outside. Something I had never really stuck at before was dry body brushing. I became more consistent at this before the wedding to gently exfoliate and rid the skin of toxins. I think this helped for my all over glow! Having a good skincare routine is so important if you want your skin to look good on the big day. Cleansing, treating and hydrating morning and night will set you up nicely. Not all skincare works for everyone, so find something that works for you - it may not be the first range you pick out. Use targeted

serums for your skin concerns. Retinol is a must in my routine, used at night, to speed up skin cell turn over as well as Vitamin C in the day for a big antioxidant boost. Leading up to my wedding, I saw a beautician for a facial treatment every six weeks to ensure my skin was in tip top shape. My favourite treatment that I had and which is relatively new to New Zealand was Dermafrac. This starts off with a light dermabrasion, followed by derma rolling with an infused serum, finished with an LED light to soothe. The results for this were incredible and instantaneous! If you’re looking at investing in your skin before your wedding I would highly recommend a series of these treatments in the prior months. Lastly, never try anything new in the month before your wedding. This applies to your skin routine, skin treatments, diets - anything that could cause you to breakout or have a reaction. The same goes for your makeup and hair for the big day. Have a trial and pick a style that you know you suit and feel beautiful with. I did my own makeup for my wedding and I stuck to what I knew I suited. This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with it! Just don’t leave the day to try a new lip colour or winged eyeliner for the first time. Something to remember is everything always looks different in photographs, so make sure you test that out too. Remember, as cheesy as it sounds, beauty comes from within. If you feel great, you will glow and shine no matter what. This is one of the best days of your lives, if not the best, breathe, relax and take in every moment!

REAL WEDDINGS

Alex & Jake There is nothing like a real life love story to inspire the softer side in all of us. Meet Alex - the face behind the wedding website Heart Beat Bridal, dedicated to sharing the wedding stories of brides around New Zealand. Recently Alex married long time love Jake in the stunning Akaroa. This is their story. Jake and I first met almost 10 years ago at one of my best friends birthdays. I asked Jake to dance and the rest is history, as the story goes. The best part is Jake is terrified of dancing! It was the thing he was most nervous about on our wedding day. We did take a bit of a break after a couple of years and I went to Sydney but we always kept in touch and when I came home we got straight back together. We bought a house, had our son Teddy whose now 2 1/2 and got married - in that order. We got engaged in October 2016 at Furneaux Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds - we had competed in a running race at Picton earlier in the day and were celebrating with a night away. I had no idea it was coming which is hilarious given how many times I’d told Jake he needed to hurry up and marry me! I was so chuffed with my run that I celebrated with a few bubbles and had to have a lie down! Poor Jake kept asking me to come for a walk but he couldn’t convince me and I almost missed my own proposal! Thankfully he’s an incredibly patient guy and managed to pop the question in our room. Looking back on it now he did seem a bit funny once we got to Furneaux but he took me completely by surprise! It was even more special as I found out he’d taken Teddy ring shopping with him. It took us just under a year to plan our wedding day - we are both super organised and had everything pretty much lined up within the first couple of months; it made things so much less stressful in the lead up and our day was so relaxed and fun because of it.

www.heartbeatbridal.co.nz 54.

THE DETAILS Mt Vernon Lodge, Akaroa: Reception venue and enough a ccommodation for 50 guests so we could make a whole weekend out of our celebration. We had our ceremony on the lawn under an archway made from Marlborough Sounds Manuka by my father in law. I’d also gone on a mission to get a collection of rugs to line the aisle. Gown: Aster by Daisy via Paperswan in Christchurch. My dress was so comfortable to wear, not too heavy so was perfect for dancing! Gabs at Paperswan is so kind and really takes the time to listen and make sure you get the best out of your appointment. I also wore a pair of La Tribe Penny heels in Blush, a set of Zoe & Morgan Boom earrings and I had a cathedral length pale blush veil. Makeup was by Leah Louise and she made me feel so beautiful! She really listened to what I wanted and was able to create a look that I felt really comfortable in. She also did such a wonderful job with my bridesmaids they were all stunning! My all-time favourite Tracey Barnao of Evolve did mine and the girl’s hair – she did multiple trials as I kept changing my mind! We spent a year growing my hair and it’s in the best shape it’s ever been, Tracey is so knowledgeable and I know I’m always in good hands. Suit: Tailor Made Suits in Auckland; they visited Christchurch to take us through their colour and style samples then again to take measurements. The suit turned up 2 weeks before our day and was a perfect fit. We also had a matching one made for our son Teddy whose 2 ½ We had our rings made by Storm Baker here in Christchurch – Tracey is such a talented jeweller and was so patient through all of the changes I made along the way. She had some great ideas and really helped me through the design process.

MINDFULNESS FOR A BEAUTIFUL MIND

With Alison Callan Alison Callan is a Mindfulness Consultant, Facilitator and ICF Accredited Clarity and Success Coach for Aspiring Conscious Entrepreneurs. Through her company 3C Coaching she supports individuals, teams and Organisations to Consciously Create positive, meaningful and sustainable change through Mindfulness. You may well have heard of Mindfulness, and if you have you may also have the perception that its primary focus is meditation, learning to be present and in the moment. And to a degree you would be correct. However, there is also much more practical ways to integrate Mindfulness into your life, routine and even beauty regimes in regards tackling any judgemental, assuming or unpleasant thoughts, which can have a negative impact on your day. Using Mindfulness to create a Beautiful Mind is not only obtainable, but simple. Yet it does call for practice, if you want to consciously create some positive and impactful habits into your life. So, what is a Beautiful Mind? The term Beautiful can be described as ‘pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically’. For most of us when we think of the word beautiful it conjures up images, things we see visually, pleasing sights that we appreciate like landscapes, art, clothes or people. But like most things if we were to spend some time and go a bit deeper, it’s the feeling that the appreciation of beauty brings, that is most memorable and sought after, it’s that feeling, that is something we’d like to replicate. The feeling starts from a thought that’s created in your Mind, either by way of a trigger in the form of going through a similar experience, certain phrases or the use of language or through visual imagery. This is merely your mind processing what it is experiencing as habits and thought patterns you have previously embedded. So maybe a Beautiful Mind can simply and practically be defined as a ‘Mind attuned to pleasing thoughts, positive suggestions and focused on encouraging good feelings.’ So that we can start to notice the judgements, assumptions and negative thoughts that we may have which generate the opposite feelings to those that we would like to create more of. Observing the difference between the two zones being your current state and your preferred state of mind can be enough to shift towards a more consistent and Beautiful Mind more often. For example, take a moment to consciously imagine a time when you experienced seeing something beautiful, when you felt beautiful, close your eyes and picture the sight or memory, explore it through all of your senses... Maybe it was a date you went on, putting on make-up for a special occasion, your wedding day or when someone commented on how great you looked, or seemed. Whatever comes forth for you and allows you to experience the Beauty in that moment... It’s intoxicating, to recall these memories and experiences. By participating in this exercise you’ve consciously re-created a feeling, a positive one! Now imagine the impact if you were to do this daily, a couple of times a day, how you could purposefully bring your focus and attention to Beautiful feelings, through the

www.3CCoaching.co.nz 58.

thoughts you were purposefully creating. What would that be like? Practical Mindfulness exercises like this one can connect you to the feelings you want to experience more of in your life. By taking the time to notice your thoughts you can start to observe the patterns, your personal version of negative, assuming or judgemental self-talk or thoughts and begin to move into the space of a consistently more beautiful state of mind. Where you consciously create, and take responsibility for your feelings, emotions and subconscious rhythms. Calling forth much more powerful and Beautiful thought patterns. Another exercise you can use daily and integrate into your beauty regime as a morning and evening ritual, is recalling gratitude’s. In the morning when you are applying your make-up, brushing or styling your hair, whatever part of your morning beauty routine feels most authentic to you try saying out loud five things you are grateful for. This starts your day with positive and grateful feelings, it tells your mind to focus on thoughts of how wonderful your life is. As you continue to practice this over the course of a week or fortnight your Mind starts to create a pattern, and it begins to notice more gratitude’s, it seeks them out because you’ve instructed your brain to consciously look for positive, feel good moments. So, you will start to see more of these Beautiful thoughts show up. You can also do an evening Mindfulness practice to cultivate a beautiful mind when you are having a shower or removing your make-up, you can say out loud five things you are grateful for, or thankful for from your day. These do not need to be big astonishing things, they can simply be finding the perfect car parking space, having a coffee with a friend, or even having the door held open for you. Sometimes in fact by noticing the smallest of joys and moments of appreciation we start to raise our awareness of where in fact we can see more beauty in the world.

GROWING YOUR OWN FOR HEALTH & BEAUTY

With Minette Tonoli Gardening for your own food, health, and beauty is the new black. With the organic industry’s continual growth, it is clear that it isn’t simply a trend, but something that is here to stay.

Home growing is not only rewarding and satisfying, but the physical act of gardening engages and fortifies the body, the mind, and the soul:

From organic food to organic cotton, and organic beauty products, consumers are more discerning in their spending, and environment groups rejoice that most people tend to think of how their purchase is affecting the natural and social orders of the world.

“We may think we are nurturing our gardens, but of course it’s our garden that is really nurturing us.” - Jenny Uglow

From the Ancient Egyptians to Victorian aristocracy – people have been using plants for cosmetic purposes for thousands of years, and a lot of these old recipes are resurfacing and being validated. From facial treatments made with olive oil infused with rose petals and orange blossoms, to tooth powders made from orris root, eucalyptus oil and myrrh. Using plants for beauty is also not only confined to concoctions we use externally. Whether they be based on the diary writings from our great-great grandmothers, or dreamt up in a modern day laboratory - we now know that a lot of our outward beauty comes from health within. Eating nutrient dense food straight from the garden, or brewing your own flower and herb tea for internal cleansing, is a great start in getting your glow on!

Body: Physically working in the garden can burn anywhere between 200 -600 calories an hour, and it provides good muscle building and stretching. Mind: It has now been scientifically and psychologically proven that time spent in nature is good for us, that to unplug and unwind is necessary for our mental wellbeing. Gardening enables you to slow down from the fast-pace of the modern world and reconnect to nature and her patient ways. It is even understood that certain soil bacteria may ward of anxiety and depression. Soul: It is very uplifting to know that you are not only contributing to your own health and well-being by gardening, but that you are doing a greater good too. It soothes the guilt we accumulate by mindlessly consuming at the expense of our natural world. You simply feel better about what you are doing with your time, and where your food comes from. There are few things that are as satisfying as harvesting fresh fruit or vegetables for dinner, or making a soothing herbal tea straight from the plant. Herbal Bath Sachet An easy way to enjoy the skin healing and cleansing qualities of fresh herbs and flowers as beauty products, is to add them to a relaxing bath. You can either make a large and strong pot of tea with your chosen flowers and herbs, and strain directly into your bath, or fill a tie-string muslin cloth with fresh or dried plant material and let it infuse in the bathwater. Start with gentle soothing and healing plants like lavender, chamomile, calendula, and lemon balm. * *Always check with your healthcare provider, be cautious with plants if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, immune compromised or prone to allergies.

TIPS FOR MANAGING ANXIETY

With Vicky Murphy When people experience the tug of anxiety, it can feel like it takes on its own life form. It burns self-confidence and builds the illusion of fearful thinking into something that seems real; kind of like an uninvited guest in your precious home. The great news is our beautiful inner soul doesn’t need a detox from feelings of anxiety – it’s been there all along.

Need to control: You can’t control anything but you can choose your thoughts. Take a moment to ponder on that statement. As you shift your focus, you shift the level of intent and anxiety as an entity starts to deflate. Shift your focus to see it for what it is - feelings of anxiety - and claim your power back! You deserve it!

As a Life Coach, I meet many people that initially come to me with feelings of anxiety, which is usually holding them back from living their limitless potential in life. People with feelings of anxiety take part in my AwakenMindfitness™ Programme to strengthen their mind, body and spirit. Together, we build a toolbox of skills and practices to overcome anxious feelings and embrace the calm.

Future thinking: Anxious feelings build up in the body as our thoughts projected into the future. It maybe the immediate or distant future, either way the thoughts are based upon a rocky foundation of “what ifs”. For example “What if, I don’t reach my goal?”, “What if I am not good enough”, “What if I don’t pass the test”. This thought process kicks off a momentum of anxiety builds. This leads us on to how to shape our thinking with our internal dialogue.

If you want to free the mind of overwhelming feelings and get to know the emotional relationship you have with your thoughts, read the helpful tips below from my AwakenMindfitness™ programme. Just a few simple exercise can help you get back into the flow of life; to calm the mind and get some clarity on the situation. Like anything it’ s practice, practice, practice which gets the results. What we continually focus on grows, so let’s plant the seeds of our mind with manifesting of thoughts we wish to transform into reality. Pressure: Let’s take the pressure out of anxiety which we can do by changing our wording around it. Start with a simple tweak in the way you treat anxiety i.e. “I have feelings of anxiety” versus “I have anxiety”. When you define who you are as someone who has anxiety is when you invite this false and fearful emotion into your home.

60.

Internal dialogue: Noticing our internal dialogue is the perfect place to start. Notice the routine complaints you say a lot during the day. These are actually negative affirmations which you affirm to yourself on an hourly or more frequent basis when you’re in the thick of anxious feelings. “Oh that’s so frustrating”, “I am not good enough”, “I need to control more to get things right”, “They don’t like me”.

“Comparing, complaining and contemplating on the negative over and over creates feeling of anxiety”

Remember - comparing, complaining and contemplating on the negative over and over creates feeling of anxiety. Pivot thinking: What we focus on the most plays out in our life. Learning to turn our thoughts around creates a platform of pivoting our anxiety to a calm and present moment of existence. Focusing on what we want creates a more positive outlook. When a negative thought comes up, practice this exercise: 1. Say to yourself “Stop, you’re not invited” 2. Swipe the thought to the side in your mind (like you would on an iPad) 3. Say to yourself “I now choose thoughts that nourish my thinking. I am present. I am safe. I am (whatever you want to be)” Your body mind needs you to be the director of your life movie or it starts to create self-sabotaging drama! Yes, this takes practice and then it becomes second nature! Laugh at how serious you were being and embrace your new found super powers! Slow down: Working too many hours non-stop winds us up, which means your thoughts and self-judgements are wound up. Take some time to breathe deeply, go for a walk outside or do a calming activity. Breakthrough: The truth is, people who experience anxiety are manifestation Queens and Kings - it’s a gift that just needs to be channelled in a way that serves you and your lifestyle. People who experience anxious feelings are usually very clever at visualising – using all senses, creating feelings experienced within the body, creating a thought and manifesting it into form. All we need to do is change our focus into what we do want, not what we don’t want. You can use this to your advantage! Sensing, feeling and visualising what you want. Breathe & ground yourself: If your feeling anxious, you need to plant your feet on the ground (barefoot as much as possible). Feelings of anxiety can feel like we are scattering our thinking. We are just rushed into thinking too much at once. So stop & visualise yourself and feel your feet connecting to ground like tree roots being planted into the earth (even with shoes on if at work). Breathing in feelings of calm and safety in the moment. Breath in deeply through nose to filling diaphragm aiming to count to 8 steady, slow flowing breathes. Hold for 2 seconds. Then Release the breath exhaling out the nose aiming to count to 16.

Practice this breathing strategy when transisting - when moving from one spot to another. For example moving from the chair to the door. I call this transistion breathing. All about practice. Mindfulness open eyed lunch break meditation: Sit and eat your lunch moment by moment. Pause and notice how the food tastes, the textures, and the nourishment which is feeding your energy. Be grateful – for the food and for your body taking care of itself. Then move your focus to your environment. Listen to the birds, the cool or warm wind upon your face. Feel the ground beneath you. Note all aspects of nature, slowly. Relax every muscle in your body. Iron our crease between your eyes. Turn your mouth into a smile and feel the natural, happy feelings rise up within your mind, body and spirit. Feel the shift in your body as you unwind yourself. Breathe in nice and deep, with the intention of freedom and creativity. Breath out the feelings of rush and intensity, and let it go. Do this slowly for five minutes. Present moment mindfulness meditation: Lay down on the grass and watch the clouds pass by. Just like our thoughts and emotions, everything is forever changing. It works out, sometimes in ways you least expect it to. Be prepared to experience the miracles and choose to see them.
