ear Briar Club Family,

The holidays are behind us and now we focus on what’s ahead of 2022. I’m approaching my six-year anniversary here at the Club, and as I reflect on the past six years, I can’t help but think about where we were compared to where we are today. What a ride it has been! Steve Jobs once said, “Great things in business are not done by one person. They’re done by a team of people.” I cannot think of a better quote that expresses the strength within our organization from the ground up. The last six years have been truly rewarding and our team here at the Club is a strong one. PROJECTS IN 2022 Member feedback is imperative to the success of any club. The projects we are focusing on in 2022 are just a part of what makes a club a club. A club that sits and doesn’t improve becomes a club that slowly becomes stagnant and complacent. The newly planned Competition Pool is just one example of those many items to help elevate our Club and the member experience. The process of planning, designing, and ultimately executing these projects is a huge group effort. My motto has always been, “Get the right people in the room!” People who know their Club, people who know their craft. Committee and membership feedback is imperative. What is our wish list? What do we like about our current setup? What could change and be beneficial? If you have any feedback or recommendations regarding planned projects, please reach out or stop by and share. GIVING BACK I am extremely proud of the staff here at the Club. I’d like to extend a special shout out to Nikki Wilson and Jason Uruski for organizing a food and beverage staff trip to Kids’ Meals, Inc., where they all volunteered their time to prepare hundreds of meals for less fortunate kids. What an experience! You can read more about this experience and see some photos on page 11. Another special thank you to Chef Michael and Chef Randy for creating and delivering another successful gingerbread house to MD Anderson Kids’ Cancer Hospital. This is The Briar Club’s fifth year in participating in this amazing event. If you haven’t heard about it, every year our team, along with chefs from Houston Racquet Club, Petroleum Club, and River Oaks Country Club, create a fantastical gingerbread display for the children at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital. The kids enjoy the gingerbread houses throughout the season, and then get to have fun with them in a smashing party. It’s a wonderful tradition and we look forward to it every year. We were also able to deliver dinner to our local fire station and partner with the PX Project to help less fortunate young adults learn the trade of the hospitality industry. All of these opportunities allow us to fulfill our mission of doing good for the community we live in. LOOKING FORWARD FOR WHAT’S TO COME Entering into 2022, we will continue our Lunch with the GM events as I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with many members over the last year. I learned quite a bit and some really good suggestions came out of these lunches. Great things are ahead for The Briar Club. The Club continues to maintain a strong cash balance, our amenities continue to improve and grow, and our service standards continue to remain strong. As many of you know, the hospitality industry was rocked during the pandemic, and many of our fellow clubs were affected. We were able to navigate strongly and maintain our sense of camaraderie within our family of staff, making us stronger than ever. On behalf of the staff, thank you for the continued support. 2022 promises to be a memorable year for our Club. Daniel Moreno General Manager/C.O.O.

appy 2022, and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. The Briar Club ended the year on a high note with numerous successful holiday events. Our Saturday with Santa and Gingerbread Decorating events both had an amazing turnout. The good cheer was not limited to our campus, and I want to make special mention of the food & beverage staff for their recent volunteer efforts with Kids’ Meals.

Writing this letter gave me a chance to think back on the progress that we’ve made and challenges we’ve overcome together at The Briar Club over the past couple of years. This Club has been like a second home for me and my family, and the importance of that was never more appreciated than throughout the pandemic. As so many of us were locked down from travel and from our daily personal interactions, The Briar Club provided a safe haven where we could escape to see friends (from a distance), get some exercise, and generally regain a little sanity. The fact that the Club thrived through such a difficult period is a testament to the management and staff, and shows we are on the right track towards our mission of providing an unparalleled experience for our members. 2021 was one of our strongest years on record, and we expect to move to a waiting list for new members this year. This time to reminisce also reinforced my appreciation for the great work done by the men and women who have volunteered their time on the Board of Directors during this period, and for what an honor it is to be elected to serve The Briar Club as President in 2022. I want to thank Dan Carter for his leadership as President in 2021, and recognize Kenneth Held, David Huff, and Charlie Vetters as they roll off from their three years of service. I am also excited to welcome Marian Hilpert, Amy Munger, and Belle Petkas to the Board. I’m confident they will make important contributions to the Club and enjoy the experience. It takes a village to make this place successful, so I want to give a special thanks to all the members who volunteer their personal time to the Club through committee service. And of course, to all of our dedicated staff members. If you haven’t already, I invite you to try out the new Family Grill. I hope you as excited as I am as we build on that success and execute on the first phase of our slate of capital projects. We are privileged to have a wealth of opportunities to further improve the Club, and we will continue to balance those with prudent management of our debt. While we are in a very strong financial position, we expect lower annual initiation fee revenue once we hit our membership cap, and there is little appetite to continue to grow membership numbers given existing compaction issues. The recent strategic survey and release of the 2030 Strategic Plan planned for January (admittedly after a few more iterations than we originally anticipated) provides direction for managing through these “high-class problems.” We have also selected a new group of members to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee, which will help ensure we appropriately allocate resources and stay responsive to member needs as we think through Phase Two of our capital project plan and beyond. While the campus is fantastic and will continue to improve, it is the relationships that make a club like this special - I truly believe we are the most welcoming and friendly club in town. I look forward to making new friends and connecting with old ones over the next year. Please feel free to reach out any time to discuss what you love about the Club or what you feel we can be doing better. Best regards, Jeff Wood 2022 President, Board of Directors

do good

In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, Briar Club staff members spent the day volunteering at Kids Meals, Inc. on Monday, November 29, 2021. This great organization makes and delivers free, healthy meals to preschool-aged hungry children in the Houston area. We spent time making sandwiches, packaging trail mix, and learning about the valuable services Kids Meals, Inc. provides.

“Mario is a fantastic team member and a great example of a leader. He is passionate about the members’ experience and gives his staff the resources and tools they need to provide the highest level of service to our members. He is always happy to share his thoughts and ideas on how we can improve our offerings and make the moment special.”
