anuary and into
ebruary moving us closer
to the warm weather riding season. This February issue is our 271st issue and is featuring Arnold’s Restaurant and Village Station Restaurant both located on Roberts Ave. in Lumberton, NC (Exit 20 off I-95) they are across the street from each other! Arnold’s Restaurant brings Lumberton’s great riding community together every Thursday Night for the Largest Bike Night on I-95! Biker and restauranteur, Arnold West and his better half Lee Scott are fantastic hosts and serve up award winning Wangs, Steaks & Ribs. Arnold and Lee’s motto is “Live A Great Story” and have made Arnold’s Bike Night an NC motorcycle bucket list item. You better believe that the Full Throttle Crew will be in attendance! In the events department, there is always good news and bad news. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. Due to Covid 19 restrictions in our state, we have not been able to confirm, with any certainty, a location that was allowed to have the crowd we are used to, for the 23rd attempt of the Fear Of February Party. Regrettably, due to these circumstances, we have had to cancel it this year, but are looking forward to reviving the tradition in 2022. The good news is that the powers that be in Daytona Beach have announced that the 80th Daytona Beach Bike Week (the world’s largest motorcycle event) will be held March 5-14. As far as local events go, North Carolina’s own beach rally: Outer Banks Bike Week, anchored by Outer Banks Harley-Davidson, is set for April 17-25. Myrtle Beach Bike Week has been scheduled for May 7-16, 2021. The 49th Annual Charlotte CBA Swap Meet & Bike Show will be held March 2728 at the Rowan County Fairgrounds in Salisbury, NC. Another event of interest is the (AMCA) Antique Motorcycle Club of America’s Southern National Meet: held at Denton Farmpark, Denton. NC on May 14-15, 2021. The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will host its Spring Bike Night at 711 West Main Street in Jamestown, NC on Friday, June 11 with free beer and vendors from 6-9 pm. Everyone is welcome. Call 336-885-5400 if you are interested in vending. We also expect many other local events to re-emerge as restrictions are repealed. Keep an eye on the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, Cruisin’ Calendar (Page 6) for all the up to date information on events in the Carolinas. You can submit your non-profit/club event for free by sending it to: BikerEvents@ FullThrottleMagazine.com. It will also be listed online at FullThrottleMagazine. com. Want to receive a weekly weekend events update text or email? Subscribe at FullThrottleMagazine.com Check out the glossy centerfold in this issue! We have partnered with The Karney Law Firm to feature photos from their 2020 calendar photo shoot and this month we are Featuring Jaybird’s Custom Cycles in Salisbury, NC. This month’s centerfold is glossy and will look awesome on the wall in your shop, garage or mancave. If you haven’t already signed up to get your 2020 Karney Law Firm 12 month wall calendar, there is a QR code you can scan on page four of the centerfold or go to KarneyLaw.com and sign up to get your FREE calendar in the mail! Lastly, In order to keep you up to date with the national motorcycle news we developed a new feature called “Nuts & Bolts” on pages 50-52, make sure you check it out as you read this month’s issue. As always, check out our advertisers offerings, there are a ton of great deals and discounts from all across the Carolinas. Get those services taken care of and new parts bolted on before you hit the road to the next ride. Our advertisers sponsor the magazine each month and make it where we can keep you up to date with the motorcycling history of the Carolinas, and we are forever grateful. Thanks for hangin’ on with the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine through the years. We look forward to 2021 and many more. Ride safe. Look out for one another.

Annual 50/50 Mileage Run blew our minds! December 19th was the final day for the final mileage readings and the winner, Pat Magee out of Cameron, NC riding a Harley Road Glide had a whopping 23,631 collective registered miles!!! Last year’s winner Keagan Potter out of Raleigh, NC and riding a Honda CRF1000L2 was in 2nd place with 21,859 miles! Troy Rolan out of Cameron, VA and riding a Yamaha Venture came in 3rd place with 11,347 miles. These “road hogs” packed in the miles and we had a lady rider who had over 8,300 miles registered! So, what’s the big deal? It’s a competition for miles and the winner this year took home $500! Each year, the Bikers And Needy Children Foundation (BANC) hosts a 50/50 Mileage Run. The unusual part is there are no specified places to stop. Participants, (anyone who rides a motorcycle from anywhere), can ride wherever they want, when they want, on what they want, with whom they want. The foundation registers the beginning mileage and the ending mileage. Winner takes all! All participants receive an
annual event patch. Some participants know they are not going to win but, they like the cause and they want that annual event patch. 2021 will go a full 12 months. Beginning Registration will start Tuesday June 01, 2021 and go through June 30, 2021. Every Saturday in June the BANC will be set up at a specified location to register participants. Participants can also call and make an appointment to meet with Mickey (Bear) to register their beginning mileage in June if they can’t make the set up dates. The Loss Of An Angel
By: Rose and Lloyd
e have lost many people in our lives, but in
early July our dear friend Lisa Kennedy, called and told us she had cancer and maybe only 3 - 4 weeks to live. She was like an angel. She had given her life always helping others. She would cook Thanksgivings and take to Trax Tavern in Thomasville for anyone that was alone on the holiday. She believed if some needed something, a friend, a shoulder, or anything she had, she gave it never expecting anything in return. Lisa had been an employee of Carter Brothers BBQ on N. MainStreet in High Point , where the staff and all employees embraced her into their family. Thus, her cutting up and making everyone smile got her the nick name “Trouble”. On Nov. 8th Double D Burnout Saloon hosted a benefit in her honor, to help with mounting expenses. Huge thank you to David and Missi Thompson for always stepping up to help a biker in need. And thanks to all involved, Tim and Marie Carter for donating most of the food and Eddie Bullins for cooking. On Nov. 28th Lisa lost
her battle, as friends and family cried, sang, prayed, and rejoiced. Lisa was surrounded by love. Her love from birth, her niece Michele Evans, left her home at the coast and spent the little over four months taking care of and loving our girl. On Nov 12th, we celebrated her life with a beautiful service and a slide show of Lisa as friends and family remembered her love and devoted to God. She had requested that at the end of the service everyone dance to her feel good song ‘Brickhouse’ by the Commodores. As we danced, Lisa danced with us on the video. After the ceremony Lloyd and I had the honor to escort her on her last ride to Tamarac. Lisa, we all love you and will ride with you in the sky forever.

Crazy David’s Santa Day
~ ’s a D vTid STORE DISCOUN & TACTICAL SUPPLY

1521 Shelton Ave. Statesville, NC
22, David Hiatt of Crazy David’s Discount Variety Store of 1521 Shelton Ave. Statesville, NC. held their 4th Annual Santa Day Christmas party at the store. Children were encouraged to write letters to Santa via Santa’s mailbox located inside the store weeks prior to the Big Day. There were hundreds of gifts collected and donated for the children of the Statesville community. Thanks must go out to the Confederate Gypsies MC and A.W.O.L. MC. The afternoon of the party, bikers rolled in from all over the Statesville, Troutman and Mooresville areas bringing lots of toys and gifts for the kids. There were around 60 bikes in all that rolled in. What a thrill for the children and quite a few adults to witness an outpouring of the Christmas Spirit on a very cold winter night. There was also an old meanie wandering through the crowd, that old green humbug: the Grinch. The Grinch nearly stole the show, with youngsters afeared and shy. But within the bright green meanie, came a warmth and care that soon allayed the fear, and he was handing out Christmas cheer. There were around twenty-eight children and a few under sixteen who refused to be counted as kids, each received ecember
around ten gifts apiece around ten gifts apiece from Crazy David and the elves. These kids sat in the floor wide eyed and excited, waiting their turn to open gifts from Santa, one sat in the corner, weeping with joy at the gift he received. He said” I wished for this, but never told a anyone, knowing it was too much to ask for. How could Santa know? David Hiatt could only say, “God is just so good!” The party went on into the night, kids sleepy and tired from the big day. Bikes fired up one by one, rolling on into the night. Family and friends, “Merry Christmas” and so many thank you, for kids who without tonight may have had no gifts from Santa. Visit Crazy David’s Discount Variety and Tactical Supply when in the Statesville area. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nazareth Children’s Home Christmas Cruise-In 2020 By: Darby and Betty Dillard s we close in
on the end of 2020, looking for a better 2021, I’d like to take a moment to say thanks. As difficult as this year has been, I think we should try to remember our blessings. Many times, I need to be reminded of just how blessed I am. Even on my worst days I wake in a home with electricity keeping me warm, in the winter and cool in the summer. I have plenty to eat and decent clothes to wear. And that’s the short list. What made me think about putting it this way is that we thought our activities at Nazareth were going to be shut down for the rest of the year after our 1st Birthday Party, in March. And the reason we go to Nazareth, is because the residents at Nazareth aren’t as blessed as many of us or they wouldn’t be there. As summer came to an end and fall began, we thought about having a fall cookout to try and remember all of the missed birthdays, but decided on the Christmas Cruise In. And what a good decision it was. Thank you one and all for showing up and offering your support. We had 55 motorcycles (including the Sheriff’s Department) and about 6 cars depart Speedway Harley-Davidson and we rendezvoused with another 30 cars and one of Faith Fire Department’s fire trucks. at Christiana Lutheran Church.
Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department escorted us from Speedway Harley-Davidson through the country, to Christiana Lutheran Church where we rendezvoused with Carolina Muscle Car Club. A big thanks to these four for helping in a huge way. I’d also like to thank Lee’s Old School Transmissions, Rowan Custom Cabinets, Pat Roger’s Foundation, Smiley’s Cycle Works of Rockwell, Cases For A Cause, Wrecking Crew Mustang Club, Uptown Catering, Charlotte Vulcan Riders Chapter 1-7, Caromark Building Group, Law Petroleum, A-1 Petroleum, Dent-B-Gone, Hair Artistry, Friendly Bread Breakers Sunday School Class, Gold Star Lawn Care, Dennis Roofing, Alternative Machine, Mr. Inspection of Mint Hill, Bethel Baptist Church, and our “Rockwell Gang” for the deserts. thanks for getting the word out to Bob Karney, the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and Speedway Harley-Davidson. OH YEA!! Don’t forget about Santa and Mrs. Claus with their little Elf! A big thank you to all who physically helped out at Nazareth, too! Thank you all! We hope you Had a very Merry Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year! We hope to see you next year. P.S. I apologize to the MC that rode with us, as I didn’t make time to say thanks or make it a point to see which Club you were. But thank you very much for your participation!

32nd Annual Windjammers Toy Run By: Wally Wersching n Saturday December 19th, the Windjammers Motorcycle Club held their 32nd Annual Toy Run for the Cleveland County Children’s Homes. As always, there was a real air of anticipation. Everyone in the area looks forward to the Windjammers Toy Run. It’s a time to meet old friends, and to make new ones, too. The Windjammer’s Toy Run is an all-day event. It starts at 7:30am with breakfast at the clubhouse on Nalley Drive in Shelby with lots of hot coffee, donuts, homemade sausage, livermush, and biscuits. From there, it goes to the “Gathering Place” - the Cleveland Mall parking lot in Shelby. At 1pm, the parade with police escort goes through town to one of the Cleveland County Children’s Homes – Aaron’s House which is west of Shelby. Usually, the parade stops at the home to deliver the toys. This year, because of the pandemic and state rules, the parade will pass the home, and ride to the Windjammers club house for the rest of the festivities - free BBQ and fixin’s. Then they will draw the winning numbers for the Harley motorcycle 1st prize, and cash for 2nd and 3rd. The proceeds from the raffle go to the Children’s Home, too. The old military truck sponsored by the local US Marine Corps group was usually the place to drop off the toys, but this year, the club rented a U-Haul truck to carry all the toys. The U-Haul truck will be given to the Children’s Home, and they will set off a disinfectant bomb to make sure that all the toys are clean for the children. I watched the weather for the week before the run – no rain for Saturday. God was still watching over the toy run. Over the 30 plus years, the weather has been great for the most part. The run has never been postponed due to the weather. I arrived at the mall parking lot about noon. I was happy to see that there were already quite a few bikes parked there. I placed a stack of the Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines on the t-shirt table and had another stack of magazines in my shoulder bag to give to friends when I met them.
As time passed, the large parking lot slowly filled with bikes. It’s always a lot of fun. Many old friends were there shaking hands and hugging each other in friendly greetings in spite of the virus warnings. I saw some old friends that I only see during toy runs. There were many clubs, and biker ministries represented at the run. All brought toys strapped to their bikes. Some were in costume, and others had their bikes decorated in the Christmas spirit. Many riders had children as passengers behind them. The temperature had warmed up to the low 40’s by then, but it was still pretty chilly. It was difficult to see some of the youngster’s faces. In the past, I had left the lot before the parade so that I could arrive at Aaron’s home before the bikers. I’d take pictures of them as the rode in and also as they brought the toys into the home. Because of the virus, they wouldn’t be stopping at the home, so I decided to stay and take pictures of the parade as they left the lot. It was something I had never done before. At exactly 1pm, the command to fire-‘em-up went out, and the parade started heading toward the Court Square in Shelby with a police escort and the U-Haul truck leading the way followed by the military truck. Then it was the Windjammers club members followed by the members of the CCIB. Once it starts, there are motorcycles as far as the eye can see, and the roar is almost
www.
FullThrottleMagazine.com
deafening as they pass. I walked up the grassy hill so that I could get some great pictures as they left. The sun was reflecting in my viewfinder, so I wasn’t sure if I got the pictures I wanted. Most of them turned out OK. Next year’s toy run starts the day after this year’s run. The club members work all year long getting pledges and donations so that the next year’s toy run will be the best ever. The people responsible are listed on the back of the event T-Shirts. It’s all worth it to know that there will be toys for the children on Christmas day. Ever since the 1992 Toy Run, the Windjammer’s toy runs have given over a half a million dollars to the Children’s Homes of Cleveland County. The money has been used to give the children a more normal life. This year’s run was a relatively good one with an estimated 150 bikes. There have been years with close to 1,000 bikes – the weather was warm and sunny then. The weather has the most influence on how many bikes are at the toy run. We all pray for good weather each year. I haven’t missed one since the first one on December 17, 1989. I plan on going to all the future ones too. I’ll be back again next year no matter what the weather.

A Time For Giving And Learning To Receive
By: Len “3 Wheel” Montgomery very year through the holidays there are ample
opportunities to give to those who are in need. For 2020, there seemed to be an increase in both needs and the hearts of those who were able to give. And the same held true in our little area of the Carolinas. 301 Brothers began the month on Saturday, December 5th celebrating in a reverse parade in the community of Four Oaks. As an adjustment for the circumstances of 2020, the participants found a spot to park along Main Street while the “spectators” drove single file down the parade route. Swag bags were handed out to the first 100 vehicles in the spectator line. And of course, we all had to maintain social distancing. I liked this idea as it permitted us to interact with the spectators on a much more personal level from afar. And I was able to portray “Biker Santa” for the children in the passing cars. I also spotted a couple of parents that were teetering on the “naughty” list. Next up the same day was the Joker Fifty RA 5th Annual Toy Drive for The Partnership for Children. Plates were ready when we arrived. And judging by the pile of toys and the cash collected, I am certain there were smiles on many faces on Christmas morning. But as we drew to end of the day, one person was missing. In fact, an all-points bulletin went out among the biker community for one Lee Braswell, who had untypically not been seen since the night before. We would all soon find out that he had taken a spill the night before on his ride home. In the early morning of December 5th, 2020, Lee was heading home toward Smithfield on Hwy 70 near D&J Cycle Center in Clayton. He hit a wet spot which caused his bike to hydroplane. Lee later told me that in the moment he was look-
ing at his options after hitting grass and mud and had laid it down to avoid the hitting the guard rail. But ultimately, he hit it anyway. He was unconscious when the Highway Patrol and paramedics arrived. When he woke up, still at the crash site, he was dazed and confused. He was fighting to get away not aware that he had a broken his left arm and his right leg, injuries that would require a total of eight surgeries. And this is where the “learning to receive” portion of this story comes in. Since I have known him, Lee has always showed up to support whatever cause in the community when he was available. He is seen by most in the biker community to be a great guy. Yet he was amazed at the outpouring of prayers, phone calls and wishes for a speedy recovery that flooded in. And of course, with the idea of returning to work any time soon at Sunland Fire Protection being out of the question for six months or more, much less his side business of detailing bikes and cars, Linda Stahl of Saddle Up Saloon in Smithfield quickly pulled together a fundraiser to help with Lee’s expenses. So, on December 19th Linda and her bartenders (Kristina Flick Sampson, Stephanie Horne and Cody Massengill) began setting up for the day while Billy Jackson cooked a whole hog. There was a raffle table with many nice items donated by Sissy Burke and others. DJs Artie Davis and Tim Langston were keeping us entertained, until the food was ready. And Andy and Emily Tyson chopped the BBQ and prepared the plates. All total there was $2,262 raised for Lee that day. And while Lee wasn’t able to be there, his dad and sister were there on his behalf.

Blue Collar Cycle Company
Bike Sales, Service & Community Upkeep By: Lincoln Infield
f you are in need of a quality, pre-loved
HarleyDavidson or just need some wrenches turned on your current ride, you should check out the crew at Blue Collar Cycle Company. Blue Collar has a laid back atmosphere where you can come hangout, shoot the shit, and take care of your motorcycle needs. Brandon McNeely, the shop owner, is a heart transplant recipient and cancer survivor. I asked him how he got started in the motorcycle industry and he replied that after his heart transplant he had no life plan since he didn’t expect to be here and started listing possible careers to enter. “I wrote down tattoo artist, motorcycle dealer and restaurant world. Well, I can’t draw straight line on a given day, so tattoo artist was out. Restaurant world, I just had no desire to go back into that, so motorcycles. Pursuing a passion of motorcycles, doing something like that was kind of where it was at.” Brandon had earned his stripes earlier in life working on old bikes with his grandfather. “Yeah, my Grandfather was an old salty World War POW vet, was always tinkering around with old motorcycles. His first bike was a Panhead and he was always out there tinkering with it, ya know, before he watched “Days Of Our Lives”, cause that’s what you do, you have to stop at 1 o’clock in the afternoon to watch “Days Of Our Lives”. I would help him out, ya know, just doing piddly stuff and just kind of became a motorcycle gear head at that time. That passion, I mean, I always rode, but that passion for doing my own thing and repairing didn’t come til later on, but here it is.” Brandon added that his first personal bike at age 18 or 19 years old was a ’67 Ironhead. “You learn how to work on bikes, when you have an old Harley like that.” Talking of Blue Collar Cycle Company and what they offer, Brandon went on to say, “We do a little bit of everything, we
kind of started out as a dealership and then we added on repair and custom components, hopefully getting ready to add on some more specialties this next year in 2021 with audio and custom paint and things like that. But the idea behind Blue Collar was, number one, to earn a living but also community, community is big to us, I want to give back. I know its kind of a cliché, but we’ve been blessed enough to have this opportunity to be here and we just want to be here for the community of riders but also the community of Salisbury at large. If something happens and we ever left Salisbury, Salisbury would miss us, not just for having a location here to service Harleys and other bikes, but they’d see a gap in the community with what we can help do for the community large.” To that point, I got to witness this first had in December when Brandon and mechanic Dave Bostic of Blue Collar Cycle Co worked with their buddy Keith to
www.
FullThrottleMagazine.com
organize a Toy Drive that benefitted local charities. (Check out the “Bub’s Toy Drive” article in the January 2021 issue). I went on to ask Brandon what riders should expect when they come to Blue Collar Cycle Co. “If anyone has expectations, I hate that! We’re looking for the average Joe or Jane, we kind of specialize in those people that are not looking to have to donate a kidney to get on a bike.” Blue Collar Cycle Company also works with riders that need second chance credit financing and always have great looking Harleys coming and going from their show room. Brandon has big plans moving forward with Blue Collar Cycle Company. “As of January 2021, we’ve been in business for 14 months. We’re hoping to expand our building, expand our inventory, expand our services offered and expand our workforce. Right now, we’re just the three of us. I’ve got two good guys with me that are, you know, the right and the left hand. They do a great job, but we are hoping to expand that a little bit and bring on some other people that buy into our culture of hard work. There’s a huge need in used parts so we’re going to expand into doing some parts business online and also in house. We will be getting more into custom audio ‘cause it seems to be a big need in our community here so probably doing some custom audio, too.” Brandon says they are looking into expanding their apparel line. Right now, the shop carries a variety of Blue Collar Cycle Co hats and shirts. “We are going to continue to develop our Blue Collar apparel, just for the average working guy or gal. We’re trying to develop that for the anyone that works with their hands but also just anyone loves the riding community and we’re hopeful that we will have that maybe online at the end of this year”. So, as you can tell, Brandon and his crew have plenty going on in shop and with their future plans. They are definitely cool folks and I suggest you take a ride over to check them out. Brandon added, “At the end of the day it’s all about how you can make money, you know, but also giving someone something for that, something of value. The biggest thing is, we love people. I mean we love people when they come by and hang out with us. We’re not a shop where you have to sit in the parts area. We love people that come in and hang out on freezing nights or sunny days.” So, if that’s not one hell of an invitation, I don’t know what is! Blue Collar Cycle Company is located at 1017 Old W. The Hide-A-Way Tavern Oyster Roast
By Lincoln Infield he Hide-A-Way Tavern kicked off 2021 by hosting a seafood roast - customer appreciation party in their spacious, fenced in back yard. Located just off hwy 220 in Rockingham, The Hide-A-Way tavern was formerly Buddy Roe’s bar and has deep roots as a destination biker bar. They also hosted the 22nd Attempt Fear Of Febru-
ary Party in 2020. Proprietor Chris Sachs and his wife Felicia know how to put out a spread for their friends and bar family and threw a two-day party, January 9-10th, with eleven bushels of oysters, twenty pounds of shrimp and two bushels of crabs! They lucked out and had two really moderate temperature days but kept the fire pit rolling to keep everyone comfortable. The back yard at the Hide-A-Way is pretty awesome, it has tons of room and all the yard games that folks get into like horseshoes, cornhole and even jumbo beer pong. If you are looking for a great biker bar destination, head out to the Hide-A-Way Tavern. Located at 188 Billy Covington Rd. Rockingham, NC. Take the back roads or hit the highway, either way, you’ll dig it and I bet you’ll be a return customer. They have all the cold beer you can handle and for liquor drinkers they operate under the brown bag laws. Better call em if you aren’t familiar. See ya there.

Your Choice ere we are into a brand new year, hopefully a
much better one than 2020. No matter what last year brought you, just be thankful it’s over with, and the Lord got us through it. Don’t say the Lord wasn’t with me, look what all happened, people lost jobs and lost friends and family members. Even if you’re not a Christian, but you believe in God, why don’t you accept Him as your Lord and Savior? I’m not going to say it will be easy, but you’ll have someone to help you through it. We’re all sinners and have to ask for forgiveness every day. At times, it’s like the Lord has his hands tied because we haven’t accepted Him. He went to the cross for us. All of us, not just a few. These past couple of months have been very trying for David and myself. He has been in and out of the hospital, things happened we didn’t like or want, but that’s life. One thing that got us through it was the Lord. He was there with us through it all. I’ve always heard He doesn’t put more on you than you can handle, but at times we wonder. Just think what it would have been like without Him. The first thing out of your mouth each morning when you
open your eyes should be: “Thank you Jesus for giving me another day”. Death doesn’t have an age limit on it, you need to be ready all the time. Psalms 100: 4. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise, Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jews first and also the Greek.” Start the New Year on the right foot, accept Jesus as your Lord. Read the Biker’s Prayer on this page, accept His love and stay true to Him.
In His Wind, Ms. Pat

12th Annual Cleveland County CBA Ride To The Shelters By: Wally Wersching n Sunday December 13th, The Cleveland County CBA/ ABATE held their 12th Annual Ride to the Men’s and Women’s Shelters of Cleveland County. The ride originated at the Shelby VFW Post 4066 on Sumter Street in Shelby and left at 1pm. The donations of toiletries, cleaning supplies, and other simple things were collected before, and during the ride. When Cindy and I went shopping last week, we bought a bag of toiletries for the shelter that could be used by any man, woman, or child. I brought them with me when I went on Sunday. I rode “Miss Vickie” to the VFW Post, and arrived about 12:15pm. It was a beautiful clear sunny day with temps in the low 50’s. I parked away from all the other bikes because I didn’t want “Miss Vickie” to be in the way when they left. I was surprised to see many bikes already in the lot lined up for the ride. There was a truck hooked to a trailer with all the items in it. I walked over to the truck with my bag of goodies where Haley was busy sorting the donations according to man, woman, or child. After I told them what was in the bag, they took it, and placed it in the trailer on the appropriate stack. I met an old friend from work – “Superman”. He’s a member of the Royal Priesthood Biker Ministry. We talked for a while. I learned that the factory where he works (and I worked for almost 10 years) is closing later in 2021. I hated to hear that. I still have many friends who work there. There was quite a mixture of different motorcycle clubs and ministries. Almost every local club was represented. I really enjoy coming to these events where everybody is there for the same reason - to help people in need. Haley was in charge. She’s the face of the Cleveland County CBA/ABATE. Her smile makes everyone feel welcome. When she was talking to the group before the ride, she got emotional. She really cares about the homeless people
and kept thanking all of us for helping. Mike, the pastor of nearby Full Throttle Biker Church said the prayer before the ride. Then everybody went to their bikes. The plan was to get the truck and trailer out front but there were bikes that had to leave first before the truck could get out. The bikes left and stopped in the street to allow the truck to pass. Then they all left with Haley, and her father “Snake” leading the way behind the truck. The rest all roared out of the lot after them. After they all left, the Sunday afternoon was quiet again. I left and headed home. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends helping people in need.

Crazy’s 13th Annual New Year’s Day Ride
By: Lincoln Infield
2020 in the final seconds of December 31st looking forward to 2021 thinking that somehow with the changing of numbers on the calendar were gonna change our luck overnight. Right out of the box Mother Nature crapped on us and Crazy’s New Year’s Day ride was postponed to January 2nd since the forecast called for 65 degrees with some sun shine. Now we know that the Meteorologists are on the take in 2021 as well. January 2nd came around with thick hanging fog, no sunshine to be seen. In years past other obligations have kept me from Crazy’s ride, so a bit of fog wasn’t going to stop me. Plus, it just makes for a little extra excitement on them backroads. The ride started off at Baggerz Saloon in Winston-Salem with kickstands up at 12:30. The parking lot was packed when I rolled up and they were already having the pre-ride meeting. The event was a canned food drive coupled with a day of bar hopping. Ya know, we gotta have a little fun while we take care of the community. I went in the saloon to drop off a couple bags of canned food. I had no trouble finding the donation area cause it already had a healthy pile of canned food collected. Crazy’s ride isn’t a led ride, it hits a couple bars that are on a pretty regular circuit if you live in the Winston-Salem area. So instead of setting off on a slow calculated parade across town, it was like any other day of bar hopping with your buds, just a bigger party than usual at all the stops! The first stop was Second & Green near downtown Winston-Salem, then we wandered into Kernersville and stopped in on the world famous Double D Burnout Saloon where there was already a party goin’ on. The front lot was full of bikes and the back yard was rockin’, but owner David Thompson was on hand to make sure no one behaved. I knocked off the chill hangin out by the fire e all slammed the door on
and made a few rounds to shoot some photos. It wasn’t long before there was a call to clear the burnout pit cause a few of the fellas had too many miles left on their back tires. I love a little old school biker burn out fun and Double D is definitely the place to get your fill. I caught up with Faron “Crazy” Newsome while he was putting back a cold one and had a chance to talk to him about his New Year’s Day ride. Crazy said that he started the ride 13 years ago cause he was tired of all the fights that happened on New Year’s Eve. “I’m gonna change that” Crazy said. The early years of the ride were aimed at helping individual families. “Then over the years it started progressing, we started doing more things, helping more families, ya know helping people. We’d find another family that needed help so we will do this ride and try to raise money. Last year, I tried something

It’s a good time and we’re able to help people. Last year I raised 1000 pounds of food for the homeless and the food bank.” Crazy added. The idea is to raise the bar every year and it seems Crazy pulled it off again this year. After a bit, Crazy made the announcement that the party was moving on to the last stop of the day the Ole’ Watering Hole in Walburg. It isn’t hard to pack the Ole’ Watering Hole as it’s not a big place, but it makes up for it with a great back yard. The firepit was blazing, and Travis Grubb and the Stoned Rangers were putin down the tunes from the stage. In between songs Crazy took the stage and announced that the food was ready and the chow line formed. It was a regular New Year’s Day feast with black eyed peas, greens, mac and cheese and pork. Man, it was tasty. It was a great way to end the day and one hell of a party to start the year. I gotta hand it to ya Crazy, It was a great day, we got a little riding in, a bit of partying and pulled together a pile canned food for 2 local food shelters. If this is any indicator of how 2021 is gonna be, y’all, get ready for a good’n.

Fifth Annual Polar Run
By: Len Montgomery t’s been said that “If you don’t ride in the rain, you don’t ride.” (Anonymous) While I’m not sure that is 100% accurate, allow me to change it up a bit with, ”If you don’t ride in the Polar Run, you miss out!!” So, on January 16th, 2021, 301 Brothers held their Fifth Annual Polar Run and first Intra Club Cook Off. It was quite chilly that morning. You could see the cold in the air and on the ground. The temperature overnight had left a white haze across everything and left the grass crunchy and a slight glazing of ice from the previous night’s rain. But the winds were fairly calm, and it was sunny. By 10 am a small group of 29 riders had arrived. By this time, it had warmed right on up to about 39 degrees (43 degrees would be the high for the day). Five minute signal was given, and layers began to be reapplied. And after a word of prayer, we hit the road. First stop: Fallen Brotherhood’s clubhouse where a hot bowl of chili was on the menu for breakfast and a huge bonfire was inviting us all for a closer look. As we hung out warming ourselves, we watched as even more riders joined the run. And so, it went; we would pick up
additional riders at each of the next stops: Southern Riders MC Harnett County, Dysfunctional Tyrants Harnett County, Dragon Slayers Johnston County and finally back to 301 Brothers. With everyone wide awake now from the ride and properly lubricated from the stops, it was time for the cooking competition. Six clubs were participating. I was cooking for 301 Brothers. We also had teams from Cohorts MC Johnston County, Desperados MC Selma, NC, Dragon Slayers Johnston County, Dysfunctional Tyrants Harnett County, and Fallen Brotherhood Harnett County. Six teams, all consisting of members of various local clubs, all vying for the bragging rights for the best chicken wings! Of course, when you get that many bikers together there is definitely going to be beer, some junk talking, and some damn good food. Each team was to cook 30 pounds of wings any way they choose. Everyone made their own sauce. Some soaked the wings overnight in a brine while others simply used a rub. By the time the run was pulling into 301 Brothers, the judges (members of Bad Decisions, the band for the day) were tasting the first wings, rendering a verdict and declaring a winner. Before I announce the winner though, let me say I tried wings from every team. And I can definitively say there were no losers. Nearly every wing of the 180 pounds cooked was consumed, leaving nothing more than a few stragglers to accompany the leftover celery, carrots, and blue cheese and ranch dressings. And it was honor to have all these guys come together to compete. We all had a great time! So, who won you’re asking? As much as it pains me to say it, it was not I. But as stated previously, I did taste wings from every team. And the winner’s sauce was the closest to my own. And had I not been participating; I may have chosen his as well. So, a hearty congratulations goes out to my friend Jeff

Mellen of Desperados MC, Selma, NC. This is where I should remind him not to brag too much. To which I’m sure he would respond with something like, “It’s not bragging if I can back it up.” As some folks were eating, others were shopping with Birdie’s Beads and Blades. Birdie has a wide variety of jewelry, blades, booty shorts, stickers, patches and more that she sets up at events all over. You can find her often at one of the Harley Davidson dealerships for special events selling her wares and sewing patches or anything else that may need sewing. She even sewed the case for one of the pop up tents used that day that had ripped when we were trying to clean up after the cook off. If you have need of a seamstress, seek her out. Now with everyone fed and re-lubrication well under way, it’s time for the band to work off them wings! Bad Decisions rocked the house beginning with an astounding rendition The Star Spangled Banner by Valerie Boyette. The entire group of loud mouth bikers and women, which has now grown to well over 100, went silent. Those sitting stood. Those with caps removed them and stood with their hand over their hearts. Some sang along softly, cause who can hit all those notes, right? But Valerie delivered and we all cheered as she brought home the final words, “Home of the brave.” It was quite the day and well on into the early evening. If you need a versatile band that rock the house or sing the country ballads that gets you your dog, boat and bike back after she done left you, Bad Decisions would be an excellent decision! Can’t wait until this time next year!!

Gaston County CBA Polar Bear Run
By: Wally Wersching n Saturday, January 2nd, the Gaston County Concerned Bikers Association (CBA) would hold their 3rd Annual Polar Bear Run to benefit the Gaston County CBA legislative and charitable work. This year’s run would again be dedicated to the memory of Mickey Seigler who died as the result of a motorcycle accident a few years ago. The run would still start at the Country Kitchen in Dallas, NC, even though they would not be open due to a communication mishap, with the first bike out at 11am, and the last bike out at noon. For CBA members, the dice hand would cost $15 which included a meal ticket for food at the last stop, Filthy Lu’s. For non-members, it would cost $20 which included a membership in the CBA, along with the meal ticket. The five stops to roll the dice would be the Country Kitchen
in Dallas, Metrolina Motorsports in Kings Mtn, Rt 55 Country Store near Clover, SC, Cycle Gear in Gastonia, and it would end at Filthy Lu’s Saloon in Gastonia. The whole run should take about 2 hours to complete (depending on the time spent at each stop). The detailed directions to the four additional locations would be on the back of the Dice Hand score sheet, so even the bikers from out of town could find their way to the end. In addition to the normal high and low hand prizes, there would be $100 donated by Mark - the owner of Metrolina Motorsports. I awoke early on Saturday – anticipating a fun day, but when I looked out the window, everything was wet, and the fog was so thick, I couldn’t see to the end on the block. I was almost glad that I couldn’t ride “Miss Vickie” because of her charging problems. Riding in dense fog is almost as bad as riding in the rain. Everything gets soaked.

At about 9:30, I drove my GTO to Dallas. I took back roads through Bessemer City rather than the I-85 to Rte. 321 route. The roads were very wet with many puddles along the way. The fog was still dense with relatively warm with temps - in the upper 40’s. I arrived at the Country Kitchen at about 10:15 and parked along the side of the lot – away from the bikes. I placed a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines on the registration table. I looked around for some friends and saw “Dodge” with his daughter. We talked for a while but then he had to leave to go to the first stop so that he could record the dice rolls of the riders coming in. Every stop would have a CBA/ABATE representative recording the dice rolls. As I was standing in front of my car talking to a few bikers about it, I heard a little girl squeal. We all looked and saw that she was jumping up and down in excitement. We looked at the bikes rolling in, and it was “Cuzz” leading a group of Guardians of the Children. As soon as “Cuzz” got off his bike, the little girl jumped into his arms. Everybody loves “Cuzz”. The group from GOC went to the table to register. All the while, more and more bikers rolled in. They had a very good turn-out. Everybody was anticipating that the sky would clear, and the sun would come out for the afternoon ride. At about 11, “Cuzz” led a large group heading to the first stop. I followed them for a while and saw them turn into the Metrolina parking lot. I continued straight to Rte.74. Later, I read on the Gaston County CBA/ABATE Facebook page that the winner of the Metrolina Motorsports $100 was

Neil Helms. The high dice hand ($100) went to Steve Wilson, and the low dice hand ($50) went to Melissa G Lookabill. When I left the group pulling into Metrolina, I decided to stop at Murphey’s Scooter Shed, as long as I was in the area, to drop off a copy of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazine. He was glad to see himself in the magazine. On the way home, I stopped at Showmars to pick up a delicious lunch. After lunch, I decided to take a drive to Gaffney, and Red’s watering Hole. I gave the bartender a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines there was an article about their toy run in the magazine. The manager’s picture was in the magazine, too!

First Annual American Legion Post 77 Toy Run By: Pam Irvin
aturday,
December 12, 2020 was the first annual American Legion Post 77 Toy Run in Hendersonville, NC. It felt like a perfect spring day in December. No kidding, it was 60 degrees and the weather was beautiful. It was a perfect day for the biker community to have an opportunity to support a great cause. The starting point for the event was at the Food Lion in Mills River and concluded at the American Legion Post 77 in Hendersonville. When speaking to the ride organizer and director of the Legion Riders group, Larry Barnwell, he was very excited about the great turnout. Larry stated that there were over 170 bikes, and a total of 45 classic vehicles and jeeps participating. Assisting Larry was, Brian Barnwell Jr, a member of the Sons of the Legion. Larry stated that Brian was the brains behind the event. They came up with the idea and had only four weeks to organize the toy run. The local charity they chose to support was the Eliada Home in Buncombe County. Eliada is a non-profit organiza-
tion that supports children and families throughout Western North Carolina. Local law enforcement and other emergency personnel assisted with traffic during the ride along with the Legion Riders group. Larry wanted to thank everyone for their support and he especially wanted to thank the ladies that volunteered for the event and all of those in the Legion Riders that volunteered to make the event such a success. Larry told me that they ended up collecting a large trailer full of toys and took up a total of $2800 to buy more toys. The group has partnered with the local Big Lots store who has offered discounts to allow them to buy even more toys for the children with the money. Larry stated that “We can always count on the biker community for support”. That is true. Every time there is a need, the biker family is always there willing to help in whatever way they can. “This was the first year our group has sponsored a toy run, but it will not be the last. We look forward to doing this many more years to come.” said Barnwell.

Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America Re-Postpones 26th Anniversary Event Ginny Talley HARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 12, 2021 – Kyle Petty Charity Ride, Inc. today announced its decision to postpone its 26th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America presented by Cox Automotive for the second time due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Originally scheduled to take place May 2 – 8, 2020 and first postponed to May 1 – 7, 2021, the Ride will now be held April 30 – May 6, 2022. The Ride will still follow the same route and visit the same scheduled stops as previously announced. “We talked through every ‘what if’ scenario and tried to come up with a way to safely execute the Ride this spring, but ultimately we don’t feel we could safely make that happen,” said Kyle Petty, former NASCAR driver, current NBC Sports racing analyst and founder of the Ride. “There is still so much uncertainty and risk with the pandemic, which is why we have decided to once again postpone the Ride, now to 2022. The health and safety of our Riders and the communities we visit is of the utmost importance to us and we simply cannot take that risk.” “I hope that we will soon be in a much better place. I’m choosing to cling to that hope and now focus on making our 2022 Ride the best it can possibly be,” Petty continues. “The camaraderie
of the riders, the beautiful scenery of our country and the mission to raise funds to send so many deserving kids to camp at Victory Junction is what the Ride is all about!” Victory Junction – a camp dedicated to providing life-changing camping experiences for children with chronic and serious medical illnesses – has served as the Ride’s primary beneficiary since its establishment by Petty and his family in 2004 in honor of his late son, Adam. For the latest information on the 26th Anniversary Ride, including its scheduled overnight stops, participating sponsors and more, please visit www.kylepettycharityride.com.

I knew he was gonna jump.” Blondie replies “No, no, you won it fair and square. I saw the noon news, too, but it looked so rough I never thought he’d do it twice!!” A couple is dressed and ready to go out for the evening. They phone for a cab, turn on a night light, cover their pet parakeet and put the cat out in the back yard. The taxi arrives, and they open the front door to leave. Suddenly the cat they put out scoots back into the house. They don’t want the cat shut in there because she always tries to eat the bird. The wife goes out to the taxi while the husband goes back in. The cat runs upstairs, with the man in hot pursuit. The wife doesn’t want the driver to know the house will be empty. She explains to the taxi driver that her husband will be out soon. “He’s just going upstairs to say goodbye to my mother.” A few minutes later the husband gets into the cab. “Sorry I took so long,” he says, as they drive away. “Stupid hag was hiding under the bed. Had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out! Then I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked. I hauled her fat butt downstairs and threw her out into the back yard! The cab driver hit a parked car.
her hands. She took a few deep breaths to compose herself and to stop her mind racing. She simply had to know. She met the fortune teller’s gaze, steadied her voice and asked, “Will I be acquitted?” Two men were riding on a motorcycle. The man in front was getting annoyed, because his jacket had lost a button and was flapping in the wind. So he turned the jacket around backward, and the two of them were on their way. Sadly, the two men crashed into a tree. One police officer who happened to be in the area arrived first on the scene. Sometime later, a detective showed up. Detective: This looks like a terrible crash. Were there any survivors? Police Officer: No. The first one died immediately, and by the time I got the other one’s head turned back around, he was dead, too.

John received a free ticket to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately. John’s seat was in the last row in the corner of the stadium. He was closer to the Goodyear Blimp than the stadium. He noticed an empty seat 10 rows up from the 50-yard line. He decides to make his way to the empty seat. As he sits down he asks the man next to him if anyone is sitting there. The man told him no, it was empty. John is very excited to have a seat like this at a Super Bowl and asks why in the world no one is using it? The man replied that it was his wife’s seat but she passed away. He said this was the first Super Bowl that they have not attended together since they were married in 1968. John said that it was really sad and asked if he couldn’t find someone, a relative or a close friend to take the seat? “No” replied the man, “They’re at her funeral!” She was standing in the kitchen, preparing our usual soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, wearing only the t-shirt that she normally slept in. As I walked in, almost awake, she turned to me and said softly, “You’ve got to make love to me this very moment!” My eyes lit up and I thought, ‘I am either still dreaming or this is going to be my lucky day!’ Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then gave it my all; right there on the kitchen table. Afterwards, she said, “Thanks,” and returned to the stove, her t-shirt still around her neck. Happy, but a little puzzled, I asked, “What was that all about?” She explained, “The egg timer is broken.”
A blonde walks into a bar, sits down, orders a beer, and is watching the 5 o’clock news: footage of a guy about to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. Bartender says, “I bet you $100 he does it.” Guy takes the bet, and not long after has to pay up. A few minutes later, bartender comes back. “I’m sorry honey, I can’t take your money. I won’t lie, I saw this guy on the noon news,
Two groups, one included members of Congress and the other which was made up of private citizens, were asked by the president to study a problem that had been plaguing the United States for a very long time. After several months and, of course, millions of dollars they came back to the president and told him they had completed their study of the problem. The president then asked the politicians for the solution. With a blank and confused look members told the president that they just “studied the problem” and that it never occurred to them to think about how to solve it. Upset and frustrated the president asked the private citizens if they found out what the problem was and how to get rid of it. Without saying a word they all nodded their heads and pointed to the group of politicians. In a dark and hazy room, peering into a crystal ball, the mystic delivered grave news: “There’s no easy way to tell you this, so I’ll just be blunt. Prepare yourself to be a widow. Your husband will die a violent and horrible death this year.” Visibly shaken, Laura stared at the woman’s lined face, then at the single flickering candle, then down at
Yesterday a blonde had a flat tire on the interstate. So she eased her car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the trunk. She took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of her car facing oncoming traffic. They looked so lifelike you wouldn’t believe it! They are in trench coats, exposing their nude bodies and private parts to the approaching drivers. She started to change her tire, and to her surprise, cars started slowing down looking at her lifelike men. And of course, traffic started backing up. Everybody was tooting their horns and waving like crazy. It wasn’t long before a state trooper pulled up behind her. He got out of his car and started walking towards her. She could tell he was not a happy camper! “What’s going on here?” “My car has a flat tire,” she said calmly. “Well, what the hell are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road?” She couldn’t believe that he didn’t know. So she told him, “Hello-o-o-o-o-o, those are my emergency flashers!” An engineering student is walking on campus one day when another engineer rides up on a shiny new motorcycle. “Where did you get such a cool bike?” asked the first. The second engineer replied “Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, ‘Take what you want.’” The first engineer nodded approvingly “Good choice, the clothes probably wouldn’t have fit!”
