ell, it appears as if we actually begun to experience spring weather. The Cruisin’ Calendar is proof of this. It really is nice to go outside without the cold temps. We can relegate most of the leather to the closet until fall and we can begin to enjoy motorcycling the way it is supposed to be again. May is motorcycle awareness month as well as the month that many of us pack up and go to the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally. For those that do not go to Myrtle Beach Spring Rally, The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine will be hosting a Biker Appreciation Night at our office(711 W. Main Street) in Jamestown, NC from 6-9pm on May 14th.Ride in for a FREE ice-cold beverage. Tom McGrath Law Group, (The Firm That Rides) https://motorcyclelawgroup.com/https://motorcyclelawgroup.com/will be on hand with some important information should you be involved in an accident, some hand outs and an opportunity to register to win a 2019 Ducati Scrambler. Ink Lab Tattoo & Body Piercing of Kernersville (https://inklabtattoonc.com/) will be here to show you some of their work and possibly plan your next tat. Chris McPeck will be playing “songs you remember”. We will have a bike show with a prize for “Best Bike on the lot”. Robert “Shaggy” Causey of NC Concerned Biker Association http://www.cba-abatenc.org/ will be here to bring you up to speed on legislative issues that concern NC bikers. We expect it to be an evening of visiting with friends and telling lies and tall tales. Please come be a part of it. Take Exit 69 off of I-73(311 bypass) and go east for 2 miles. We are on the right in the Jamestown Shopping Center. On May 17th & 18th, join us for the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA) Southern National Swap Meet at Denton Farmpark, 1072 Cranford Road, in Denton, NC as we celebrate the70th Anniversary of the HarleyDavidson Hydra-Glide If you like old motorcycles, this is the place to be to see hundreds of them on display as well as thousands of old motorcycle parts and memorabilia! Take a ride in the Antique Motorcycle Parade “History in Motion”, meet the historic Motor Maids, and show off your bike in the Antique Motorcycle Bike Show and Bike Games! Camping accommodations and food are available on site! admission is only $12.00 (FOR ALL WEEKEND) Check out The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. There are also many other events going on. Because not everyone goes to the Myrtle Beach Spring Rally. No matter where you go, enjoy your motorcycle and be safe.

D&D American Performance
Story and photo by Alan Dockery iders who live in the busy I-77 corridor North of Charlotte have a new bike shop to take care of all their needs. D&D American Performance has been in Mooresville, NC, for almost a year. They are easy to find. When you get off I-77 at Exit 36 for all the bars and restaurants, head out Hwy 150 and stop in to see Dan The Man and Dewey Take Exit 36 Highway 150 and head East. As you clear the traffic, they are on the left at 105 Denver Business Park Drive. I expect great things from D&D American Performance since I know the owners, their experience and goals. Daniel Workman is well-known around here as a top-notch Harley wrench and Jason “Dewey” Wolf wants to build a good reputation and earn your business for years to come. My first time meeting Dan The Man was probably at a drag strip. He was a crew member on the Nitro Shack Pro Dragster tuned by David Lytton and ridden by Mike Nicholson. Over the years, I heard about him and his reputation. A few times
R
I’ve heard shop owners brag about him or tell me to put it in their advertisement that Dan Workman is at their shop now. Dan finally has his own shop and is available to work for all y’all Dan started like so many folks on a Honda Trail 90 when he was14. He got more and bigger dirt bikes and enjoyed tinkering with them. Raised in West Virginia, Dan’s family moved here in 1989. The coal mines in W. Virginia were shutting down and North Carolina had lots of manufacturing jobs. “Got my first Harley, an Ironhead Sportster,” at 19, Dan said. “If you wanted to ride an Ironhead in West Virginia you better learn how to work on them. That’s how I got started. I pushed that thing all summer to get it started since no kicker. The starter solenoid was messed up and I didn’t have the money to fix it.” “One of the guys in the club with my Dad said to bring it by his house and he’d show me how to fix it. All he did was the old copper washer fix. Take it apart, sand it clean and put back together right and it worked. I thought this is what I want to get into,” Dan said. “Then I spent $1,300 to have the transmission rebuilt and it wasn’t right.” Dan started working on Harleys about 27 years ago and looks back on those as good years. “I tell the ladies at Food Lion I ain’t had a job in almost 30 years,” Dan says. “The old saying is if you do what you love you won’t work a day in your life. I ain’t worked in a long time. Fixing motorcycles is something I took to. I’m good at it and have a good reputation.” He has often worked in little shops. Dan attended American Motorcycle Institute in (AMI) in Daytona in 2000 for some formal training and got certified on Harleys. “I worked for the Easyrider shop in Charlotte,” he said. “Then went to Tilley’s H-D old shop on Hwy 70 and told Robinette that I

could change the tire on a dresser in under an hour. She asked, “When can you start?” He spent several years there before going off on a venture with a friend in a shop that failed. Dan came back to Statesville and worked at the Nitro Shack with David Lytton. Helped with the Pro Dragster. Got the drag racing bug and learned more about building performance bikes. He even got out of motorcycles for several years taking mechanic jobs in manufacturing. While working at Tilley’s H-D for a few years, Dan met Dewey. There, the guys realized they had the same goals in the industry. So, they took off on their own and opened D&D American Performance in Mooresville. Dewey grew up on Long Island in New York. Friends didn’t have motorcycles, but an Uncle always had hot rods and Harleys and Dewey wanted to ride with him. “Dad had a motorcycle before I was born,” Dewey said. “So, when I started wanting to ride Dad and a couple other uncles got bikes. We would ride all over Long Island. I was riding Jap bikes, but always wanted a Harley.” Dewey worked for the New York State park system running a fishing port. His wife is a teacher and was doing substitute work. When she found a job in Charlotte, they moved south. He went to work for the local county parks, but wasn’t happy there. “I have always wanted to learn how to work on motorcycles,” Dewey said. There was a one-year motorcycle program at Davidson County Community College. It covered
21
all kinds of motorcycles.” “After completing that program, I started looking for a job,” he said. “The owner of the Harley dealership back in New York knew Don Tilley. Don offered me a job washing bikes. In six months, I was doing oil changes and minor service. I worked the parts counter and out front somedays.” Now Dan and Dewey run D&D American Performance and can do just about anything and everything you need for your American Motorcycle. From tires and brakes and oil changes to build you a bad ass hot rod Harley motor they can take care of you. They work on Indians and Victorys, too. At a very reasonable labor rate of $55 per hour, these guys can take good care of your motorcycle. Most of the stuff they do is cams, head work and tuning. The can do Bagger Conversions, dressing up your Road King or other ride with custom stuff. Whatever they can’t do, they have good contacts who can do a professional job in the motorcycle world. Soon D&D American Performance will provide motorcycle inspections and used bikes for sale. When you get off I-77 at Exit 36 for all the bars and restaurants, head out Hwy 150 and stop in at D&D American Performance to see Dan The Man and Dewey. They can make that Harley look and run much better.

St. Patrick’s Day Crossroads Harley-Davidson Style By: Buzz
T
North Wilkesboro used to be the speedway, but nowadays it’s Crossroads Harley-Davidson. Nestled in a beautiful stretch of North Carolina foothills, this destination dealership has the can take care of all your Harley needs and knows how to have a good time. I happened by the dealership for their St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an irresistible day and the hour ride to Crossroads Harley-Davidson was a beautiful and laid back run up highway 421. There was already a line of bikes in front out front and there was a bit of tire kicking going on. CJ Ballard was putting on a one man show and keeping the toes tapping. Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 had a booth set up and selling raffle tickets for a chance on a rim fire riffle or a beautiful double barrel shotgun. This was a no brainer, I grabbed a stack of tickets after they promised they were the winning ones. A new chapter of the Bikers Against Child Abuse were also set up chatting with folks and gaining momentum for their cause. The show room was buzzing with folks and Crossroads H-D had set up a few buffet tables filled with pizza, hot dogs and drinks, and I didn’t mind if I did! CJ took a break from his set so that the fine folks from Crossroads H-D could hook the most festive couple up with some gift certificates for the effort. A few songs later it was time to hit the road. The sun was still he jewel of
warm and I took a few minutes to stop off and pay my respects to the old North Wilkesboro Speedway, which was worth the trip in, and, of itself. Big thanks to Mike Lipford, GM of Crossroads for the hospitality and it was great to get a few minutes to chat with sales guru Micah Dunlevy. It’s a great group of riders and employees that make Crossroads Harley-Davidson a great dealership to visit. Make sure you check out their ad and the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Cruisin’ Calendar to keep up with what’s going down at Crossroads. I’ll definitely be back to see ‘em!

5th Annual BACA Poker Run By: Vaper, Midlands Chapter VP he Midlands Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) works to empower abused children around the greater Columbia, SC area. The Midlands Chapter of BACA held our 5th Annual Poker Run on April 6th. We started at Gadgets of Lugoff, with stops at the VFW Post in Elgin, Gossip of Northeast, Mason’s on Beaver Creek, and East Camden Private Lounge. We ended up back at Gadgets of Lugoff for the after party with Ronnie Hopkins and Blyss. We had beautiful weather, and a great turn out. The support from all the stops and the community was amazing! The great participation allowed us to accomplish both awareness, getting our name and mission in front of the public, so they know what we do, and that we’re here to help, and an added bonus of raising some funds. All the funds raised go to helping the kids. Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. Among other things, a big part of what we do is help with therapy. If a child needs therapy but the family can’t afford it, and social services can’t help, BACA will step in and pay for that therapy, with no cap. We do whatever it takes to empower that child to not be afraid of the world in which they live. That’s why we want everyone who participated in the Poker Run to know that we are very grateful for their support! We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization. We also work in conjunction with local and state officials who are already in place to protect children. We welcome the abused child(ren) into the BACA family, and desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by offering continu-

BACA kids slowly and surely gain the courage and confidence to face their fears and their abuser(s), to recognize the strength that they possess inside, and most importantly to regain a small part of their childhood that was stolen from them. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner. However, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle.

Tilley H-D Open House & Tent Sale
Story and photo by Alan Dockery s March and Winter faded away, I was eager to ride on a dry Saturday afternoon. So, I stopped by Tilley Harley-Davidson, Statesville, NC, for the Open House and Donna’s Tent Sale. It was spring and they were having free hot dogs and sodas and cold frosty beverages. By mid-afternoon, a whole bunch of local bikers I know and many others were at Tilley’s. There were a few vendors such as Rolling Thunder NC-2 selling chances on two sweet guns. While talking to the lady handing out the latest cool things from Bob Karney Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer, she mentioned that it seemed like a large crowd for a dealership open house. Well, I had to tell her that Tilley Harley-Davidson is a special kind of place these days. Don Tilley became a Harley dealer in 1972. There are folks riding into the parking lot today whose dads, papas, uncles, brothers, mothers and friends bought their motorcycles from Don Tilley. For years he was the man taking care of NASCAR drivers and team members when they wanted new or fast Harleys. We grew up reading about Don as an American Hero builder and tuner of racing motorcycles that whipped the best in the world. Dirt, pavement, curves, hills, straight line,
A
it didn’t matter. Don’s bikes and riders won. Sadly, the world lost Don almost five years ago. But his family still runs Tilley Harley-Davidson and that’s part of what keeps us going there. Folks were thrilled to see Robinette there smiling and taking photos with longtime customers and friends. Bikers know the folks at Tilley Harley-Davidson, family and employees. Kim was busy greeting folks and answering all kinds of questions. Derek and Terry could hook you up with a new or used bike. Chase and Chandler were probably at the

parts counter most of the day. It was Libby and Mary Ann whom everyone saw since they were handing out the free food and drinks. I think Donna and Regina were just as busy at the Tent Sale. Oh, Man! I saw y’all hauling away saddlebags full of great deals on Harley clothes, boots, accessories and more. You know Donna was making room for lots of cool Summer stuff. During a lull in the line of folks coming out of the tent with good deals, I talked to Donna Tilley about how we feel there is something special about their family and the shop. “We are still a family owned and run dealership,” Donna said. “November will make 47 years since Daddy and Mom opened the shop in 1972. I was ten years old. At twelve, I was washing bikes. Started working behind the parts counter at fourteen. I bought my first bike at sixteen, a 1978 Superglide. Rode it to school.” “We are still going strong. My Mom and Daddy put a mark on Statesville. Mom is still going strong and comes into the shop three days a week. Very much still involved in the business. This has always been our life, motorcycles and racing. My Daddy put a hurtin’ on the racing’ world. He was always about speed and horsepower. He knew how to make anything go fast, whether it was a car or motorcycle, it didn’t matter.” “We plan on staying in business a lot longer. Come see us and we will hook you up with whatever you need from motorcycles to service to accessories.”

6th Annual CCIB Bike And Car Show By: Wally Wersching n March 30th, the Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) held their 6th Annual Bike and Car Show in the Western Dynasty lot on Main Street in Boiling Springs, NC. They had many different classes to compete in for both bikes and cars. They even had a class for the kids – model cars. Hot dogs and chips were on sale for $6.00. All the proceeds from the hot dogs and registration went to the Cleveland–Rutherford County Kidney Association. I talked my wife Cindy into going with me this year, so after we stopped for lunch, we continued on into Boiling Springs. We parked in the grassy field behind the main parking lot and walked over to the event. We passed by a long line of motorcycles on our way to the main lot. They weren’t in the show – they were spectator’s bikes – mostly Harleys. Many of them looked like they could be in the show. They were so nice. As we walked around the building, we could see the many bikes in the show I had a stack of “The Carolinas’ Full
O
Throttle” Magazines for the registration table to give to the participants. Then we saw Amy (aka Legs) and talked with her for a while. She works with my daughter-in-law at the Post Office. She entered her RS Camaro convertible in the show. It’s a very clean example of the gen 3 Camaro. It looks like it would be fun to drive.
www.
Then we walked around looking at all the different cars in the show. There was everything from a newer Dodge Challenger and a Mustang to an early 50’s Chevy dump truck – and everything in between. Next, we met “Grumpy”. We had a very pleasant conversation with him about motorcycles and such. I’ve known “Grumpy” for many years, but it seems that we only meet at events like this one. We then walked back to the tents to talk with Chester (aka Radar). I learned that he’s an instructor at Isothermal College in Spindale, NC. He teaches young students the art of Electronics Engineering Technology, and Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology, along with Engineering Technology and Workforce Development. While talking with him about his students, I could tell that he really loves his work. Next to his tent was the Cleveland County Concerned Bikers Associa-

tion (CBA). I’ve been to some of their events and always had a great time. Clint and his wife Haley were there telling everyone the benefits of joining the CBA. We were doing a lot of walking, and I could tell that Cindy was getting tired, so we decided to walk back to the car and head on home. On the way, we met “Smitty” who was directing traffic as the bikes and cars rolled into the lot. We talked for a few minutes before we completed our walk to the car. It was a lot of fun, and I was glad that Cindy was there to meet some of my biker friends. Randy Lail’s 1967 Ford Fairlane won “Best of Show”. I worked with Randy, too. In a small town like Shelby it’s not hard to meet someone I’ve worked with anywhere I go.

Mike’s 2nd Annual Cowboy Chili Challenge Story and photo by Alan Dockery s March wound down, spring blessed us with T-shirt weather at Son of the South Saloon, in Longview, NC, for Mike’s 2ndAnnual Cowboy Chili Challenge. It was a great day to ride over to the bar, hang out and talk with old friends, fuss about the long cold winter and sample chili. Mike Dyson owns the oldest real biker bar in Hickory, The Wizard Saloon, and told me he wanted to do something like this at SOS for years. He throws cool outside parties at The Wizard during the Summer. But the Cowboy Chili Challenge was a little different. Entrants had to cook outside over a wood fire. Mike had some old big truck rims welded up that made great cookers. I heard someone say, “It’s more about the comradery than the competition.” That was true. As soon as I rode in, I was greeted by other biker buddies I hadn’t seen in months. Local musician, Zeb Spencer, was strumming his guitar and signing for us. Zeb is a star now, having just been on American Idol and going rounds. He’s a contender to win. Later that afternoon, long-time local favorite, Mike Caldwell entertained us. There are some old military aircraft at the Hickory airport, so we had an air show all afternoon as T-6 Texans and other Warbirds flew over once in a while. Mike is pretty smart sometimes and invited the Longview Town Mayor, Marla Thompson, and Fire Chief, James Brin-
A
kley, and his wife to be judges. Carl Macintosh, Longview, won the Hot Class. Richard Fleck, Hickory, won the Mild Class. Richard’s chili was pretty good too, and he served up a bunch in a cast iron pan bigger than mine. The Hot & Sweet Class was won by Greg Sides and Gerald Weldon from Lenoir. Gerald is fixin’ to go to Parris Island and become a Marine. Y’all know I believe every young person should head to basic training after high school. Carl won People’s Choice voting, too! Mike said, “Thanks to the folks who came to cook and all those who came for chili and a good time with friends. On a beautiful Spring day” Looked to me like the folks enjoyed the Cowboy Chili Challenge. Y’all oughta come on down and serve up your best next time Mike hauls out the cookers and fire wood.

Christina Billings Stunt Show At Smokin’ Harley-Davidson
By Caroline, Photos By: Anthony Maes n case y’all missed it, on March 23rd Smokin’ Harley-Davidson hosted one of the best stunt riders around and she did not disappoint. Christina Billings, who is originally from Massachusetts, now makes her home in Jacksonville NC. She is a Professional Harley- Davidson stunt rider. Her best stunt is a wheelie with her feet dangling over the handle bars. She pulls this off making it look easy with her small frame on the 600 lb. Sportster 1200. However, this was not the only stunt.
I
She can stand on the seat and navigate tight turns on a course. Steering with her knees is also very amazing to watch. For a finale, she ended with a fiery finish. You will probably see her at some of the major biker events in the area this year, you can check her out at crashtina.com. This is just one example of some of the fun things you will find this year at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson. You can also keep up with their many events on the web at smokinharley.com or check out all the latest events in the Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. The 7th Annual NC Sandhills Bike Blessing
By: Jody and Pam Shotwell Photo By: Stephenie Jeanne Photography he NC Sandhills Bike Blessing is the event that Freedom Biker Church, Fayetteville looks forward to hosting every year. It is always held the first Saturday in April, rain or shine. April 6th was finally here. As it turned out, God shined his light on us and the weather could not have been any better. All the volunteers met at 6:30 a.m. at Freedom Biker Church for breakfast. Our pastor, J.D. Tew, opened in prayer, gave out our assignments and the fun began! All 39 vendors were set up on the church property when the people started showing up, mostly on bikes with a few in cages mixed in. Steve McCaig, with the local HOG Chapter lead a group of bikers from Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson. Some of Fayetteville’s motorcycle shops which included Baker American Cycles, Fort Bragg HarleyDavidson, Roll Out Auto and Flip My Cycle brought some “Big Boy Toys.” Rockfish Speedway had a couple of vintage Legend cars with their drivers set up. There were a variety of other vendors selling products including leather accessories, motorcycle parts, and biker jewelry. Camping World had a couple toy haulers set up for those on the move.

At 11 am, Pastor JD Tew welcomed everyone to Freedom Biker Church and opened with the National Anthem. The 7th Annual NC Sandhills Bike Blessing was ON! Folks were enjoying music by our very own D.J., Scott James. Some riders were hopping on the Jumpstart provided by FBH-D. Lots of door prizes were given away and amazing food was available. Most importantly the parking lot was buzzing with FBC prayer warriors praying for the bikers and blessing their bikes. A local food truck, Cathleen’s Eatery, served cheesesteaks, hamburgers and french fries while Freedom Biker Church’s Cooking and Home teams provided BBQ sandwiches with chips. For those needing a chill fix, 32º yogurt bar from Knightdale served ice cream while flavored slushies were served by Generation Next. The ladies from Freedom, Iron Angels, prepared homemade desserts served by Sharon Wilson and other volunteers. Each person received a “free” packet which included a 2019 Bike Blessing dog tag key chain with a Bible verse (Colossians 4:2), which says “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”, a helmet sticker, and tickets for some great door prizes. Some of the door prizes included bike services, a bike cover, helmets, gas cards, a battery tender, bike toolkit, Harley wreath, tattoo gift cards, and many restaurant gift cards. At 1:00, Mr. Ted Hammond prayed for the military and J.D. Tew offered a group prayer for all riders and safe travels to all motorcycles. The FBC prayer warriors had already hit the parking lot as bikes rolled in giving individual prayers. The afternoon was filled with blessing of individual bikes. A 1980Harley- Davidson FLT was the Grand Prize To close out the event. Everyone received a ticket for the Grand Prize and additional Grand Prize tickets could be purchased for a dollar. This was a reverse drawing and you had to be present to win. There were three top prizes. Third place was a custom hand-

Finally, the 1980 FLT Harley-Davidson, King of the Highway, went to Theresa McLean. That was one happy lady! The anonymous winner of the 50/50 drawing donated his share of about $300 back to the church. Ashleigh Britton & Roswita Toepfer won the gun raffles from FBC Celebrate Recovery. There were more than 800 motorcycles in attendance. Freedom Biker Church was well represented from other locations including the home office in Clayton, FBC-Hickory, FBCMonroe and FBC-Aiken, SC. They had blue skies and great riding weather to roll into Fayetteville, NC. What a beautiful day it was! Everyone had a great time getting reacquainted, starting new friendships and making memories. We were simply “doing life together.” We would like to thank everyone who came out and celebrated this event with us. Freedom Biker Church is indeed a great church with some great people. Whether you ride a motorcycle or not, if you need a church family where the Word of God is spoken truthfully from the Bible, we would love to be your church. You will not be disappointed! A Night With Monica “Lollipop” Hall
By: T.J. Rogers Photo by: Chi ’ve sat at my computer trying to figure out how to write this and seeing as it’s an article about my’, faience I’m sure once you read it all, you’ll understand. On Friday, April 12th, 2019, A night with Monica “Lollipop” Hall was set at Jeffery’s Bistro in Dublin, N.C. It was intended to be a support party; meant to be with Lollipop here in attendance! This quickly turned into a support party to raise money for her funeral. She passed away on April 4th, 2019. In life Monica was a giving person. “Lollipop” saw more wealth in living her life. She was not a materialistic person, but in spirit she embraced a wealth not everyone gets to see, know or understand. She would give you an ear to speak in, a shoulder to cry on, and even her heart if you wanted it or not. Monica would smile and light up the room. She was in every essence a light for a great many people. It didn’t take people long to like her! Loving the person Lollipop, in fact, was a very easy task for everyone. In life, she always humbly referred to herself as a nobody, when, in fact, she was loved by everyone around her. In April of 2018 she was diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer. By the time the doctors caught it, the cancer had spread to her liver and lymph nodes. It was unusual to have the type of cancer where it was, and it was an aggressive strain of cancer. It was a small cell carcinoma which the doctors said is usually found in tumors in the lungs. Even with
I
this news her smile didn’t fade. That day her slogan became “Cancer picked a fight with the wrong person. And fight she did! At first, the treatments went very well. They said she was almost in remission. Then she started getting sick from the treatments and they had to stop them for a few weeks. The cancer came back with a vengeance. It spread like wild fire all throughout her body. Although she got sicker, her smile never faded. Her quote she stated, over and over again was, “I’ll be okay.” On March 31st, I felt it was time to do something for her that was really special. I wanted to give everyone a chance to have one last night with her, and enjoy her smile one last time, because I knew she was fading. I knew she wasn’t going to last much longer. So all of us, with Dead Silence M.C. decided to do just that, little did anyone know I had something else planned, too. A wedding was going to take place that night. Until now, nobody knew! On April 4th all the plans came to a halt when I woke up. Monica had passed peacefully in her sleep beside me with her puppy curled up next to her and a little clown doll given to her by her favorite clown. “Rellik” the Clown inspired her to keep fighting! Her special night wasn’t going to happen. I
www.
thought about canceling it, but my club encouraged me to keep her plans in place and still do it. So we did! Tonight was about her. A celebration of the woman we all dearly loved. It was to share stories and say “Goodbye”. We gathered at Jeffery’s Bistro as planned. It was a perfect night except for the rain. A table dedicated to her was set up and a donation jar added. It was soon filled with money to help pay funeral expenses. A 50/50 drawing was done. with Roy Tickle held the winning ticket. He donated all of the winnings back. We also actioned off a jar full of pixy sticks and lollipops that sold for $265 (yes… you read that correctly). Followed next by Lollipop’s Balloon Release. Everyone got a white balloon and wrote a message to Monica on it, they were released so they could fly off and with hope reach her in heaven so she could read them. Lastly, the owner of Jeffery’s Bistro decided to dedicate a place behind the bar to her. So as long as it’s open you can walk in and see a picture of Monica hanging up behind

the bar. In a way it’s fitting. Back in the old days the bartender also acted as a psychologist to many patrons of a bar. In many ways Monica was that to a lot of us. She was my best friend and my psychologist. She knew how to mix a good drink, too. What better place is there to have her pictured on the wall than there? She will be remembered as a beautiful spirit gone too soon! My grandfather told me when I was just a small boy that you can measure a person’s love, and how much they were loved by the attendance at their funeral. There wasn’t an empty seat at Monica’s, It was standing room only. I found peace in that. Because the woman I loved, my shield, was loved by more than she ever knew. Many couldn’t attend even though they wanted to. Which means that if they did, it would have been shoulder to shoulder. It makes me proud to know she touched so many. Tonight was no exception. Even though we were expecting more, the crowd there managed to donate $1007 to her funeral expenses. I’m left now with not just peace, but satisfaction as well. Monica, sweetheart, I wish you could have seen it. Because I know
37
you would have cried from feeling undeserving, but you did deserve every moment of it. your spirit of humility is what made you special to everyone, you deserved so much more! You were an angel before you ever went to heaven. Monica’s life was one that was rough and she was a fighter all the way. I was told, I gave her the life she always deserved. I was told, I gave her the happiness and love she always longed for. I hope I did! She definitely gave those things to me! I want to thank everyone that came out and helped us celebrate Lollipop’s life. Each of you are my brothers and sisters. In closing I will say, Monica, I know you will be watching over all of us. I know that one day each of us will see you again. There will be tears, and stories; there will be joy and celebration. I will see you again! But not just yet, for now you are my angel guiding me until my time comes! I Love You My Monica, Lollipop!

Joker Powersports 1st Anniversary Party
By David Burnette n Saturday April 6th, Joker Powersports held their 1st anniversary party and swap meet. There were several vendors set up selling all kinds of parts , biker accessories, tires and rims just to name a few things that were available. There was even someone selling smoked Boston Butts
O
for the upcoming Easter holiday. There was something there for the whole family with inflatables for the kids. There was a food truck selling Jamaican Jerk chicken and there were plenty of cold beverages available. They had some great bands play-
ing (The Piedmont Boys and Ziggy Pockets with The Southern Style Band). John, the owner of Joker Powersports, said he just wanted to thank all his customers for all of their business throughout the past year (over 250 bikes sold in the past year!) so he had a motorcycle giveaway open to everyone free of charge. They gave away a 2012 soft tail custom with a custom paint job , a young lady by the name of Holly Walker won it. You couldn’t ask for better weather, when Ms. Pat and I left my house around 9 am the temperature was already in the low 60s, sun was shining and believe it or not the rain had left. It turned out to be a beautiful day. There was quite a crowd there by a little after noon. Everybody was taking advantage of the fact that the rain finally quit pouring down at least for the day. As a matter of fact, me and MS Pat took advantage of that as well and took every back road we could find (or couldn’t find lol) on the way back to my house. There’s nothing like getting out on a sunny day with no plan for the ride except getting lost for a while, taking roads we never been down before and eventually getting where we wanted to go. Thanks John and Joker Powersports for a great day. Hey y’all get out there and ride and support your favorite bike shops. ;)

Brown’s RV Poker Run
By: David Burnette n Saturday April 13, Brown’s RV Superstore in McBee , SC sponsored their first poker run. All proceeds went to help fund The Veterans’ Fund of South Carolina. So far, at present count, they have raised over $2100 with more donations expected to come in soon. There were about 60 riders total on the ride, which was not bad for a day with the threat of on and off showers all day. Luckily, the rain held off until later in the evening with only a few showers during the concert, but even that that didn’t stop the fun. There were four bands playing, Jonathan Robinson, Bad Inc. (a Bad company tribute band) the Barry Brown Band,
O
and American Idol star Bucky Covington. There were door prizes, and a 50/50 raffle. The best poker hand won $1000 and the worst hand won $200. The ride left out of Brown’s RV and made several stops along the way including Black Jack Harley-Davidson and Darlington Raceway before returning to Brown’s for the free concert and food. I believe everyone had a good time, there were smiles everywhere I looked. Be on the lookout for Brown’s RV at Myrtle Beach Spring Rally, they’ll have all kinds of RV’s for sale including toy haulers. Check out their ad in this issue. See y’all down at bike week.

7th Annual Creekside Spring Bike Rally Story and Photo by Alan Dockery know some of y’all ain’t scared to play in the mud. Because I saw y’all at the 7th Annual Creekside Spring Rally the middle of April. This is one of the first events of the season for us who like to camp and party with bikers. Hosted by the Southern Gentlemen MC, the Creekside Rally is held on a nice private country property, in Gaston County, NC, where bikers could catch up with friends and party for the weekend. The rally starts Friday afternoon as folks ride in to set up camp and vendor spots. But this year rain showers kept some folks home so I ain’t sure how many enjoyed Throwdown Jones on stage that night. Saturday, once the rain stopped, folks started riding in to get in some of the rally and see friends and have a cold tasty beverage or three. DJ Tim was playing a variety of music as we sat in the shade or visited vendors. Yeah, there were some vendors selling those biker things that ain’t in Wally World and some good food too. Lucky’s Good Life folks were informing us about the medical benefits of CBD.
I
The Bob Karney, “Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer”, ladies were at Creekside handing out the latest cool SWAG. I got some tickets on the sweet dressed up Sportster the Gaston County Toy Run folks are raffling off. Yeah, more folks drove this year since it was wet and the grounds kinda muddy. That’s OK come support the Southern Gentlemen and see some friends. You can clean the bike, truck and boots later. That afternoon, Magic Mike and the guys put on some bike
games to entertain folks. He even entered some and won the Slow Ride since he started practicing early. Then Magic and Wendy won The Biker Beer Pong. That’s slam a beer and then toss in the trash can while riding by, grab another beer and race to the finish trash can. I don’t know what John Boy’s time was on the Obstacle Course, but it was clear he was the quickest. The fishin’ pole Weenie Bite Rig was super simple this

year. No Duct Tape needed. Biggin held it steady, sorta. The thermometer is a good new modification for quick weenie changes. Anywho, Laura was the Weenie Queen riding with Cletus. The property is well laid out with lots of camping area. Even with the rain there was plenty of dry camping space. A nice stage faces an area to dance and the bar and tables where folks can enjoy the bands. Saturday night Skynndeep with Shawn Mann took the stage to crank up the party and keep the rain away. Creekside is such a cool site for a bike rally. It’s very private and a short ride from Charlotte, Hickory, Gastonia, Statesville and other Carolina towns. The Southern Gentlemen have been holding this rally for seven years and do both Spring and Fall rallies. Y’all ride on down to the creek when they do it again in September.

Public Safety Motorcycle Ride And Poker Run By: Pete Weinrich
W
Mountain Biking, what comes to mind? Perhaps you picture two wheels, a heavy frame, sturdy tires, with a pedal pushing sweaty human being on top making the whole thing go through the woods and hills. Mountain biking became a whole different thing on April 6 at Charlotte Indian Motorcycle in Lowell NC at the Dealership. Over 167 motorcycles were on hand that day. There were the familiar Cream and Brown colored Indians Chiefs, Iconic Black Harley Classics, sport bikes, a custom green hard tail, Hondas, Yamahas, and Kawasaki’s of all styles from touring, to sport and customs. It didn’t matter what you were riding that day, we were all were there to participate in a fully escorted Public Safety Poker Run to benefit the Cancer Services hen you hear
of Gaston County. It was cloudy, and cool, with a heavy fog when I left the house. I decided to take the windshield off the 2018 Fat Bob and go old school, no GPS, no radio, no blue tooth communications; just me the road and the wind. The ride in to the starting point required a jacket and was a slower, chilly event. Upon arriving at Charlotte Indian in Lowell, NC, it was hot coffee, finding friends, and trading stories with other riders. All kinds of groups were represented; Red, Blue, Green and Nam Knights were there as was BACA, CBA, HOG, and various other clubs and groups. After checking in and purchasing our Poker Hand(s), the riders were welcomed by Gastonia’s Fire Chief. The ride was led by Gaston County Sherriff’s officers with a car and two motorcy-

cles. They would be assisted by the various town, and county law enforcement agencies along the way. Riders headed west out of the back entrance of the Indian dealership. The roar of large V Twin engines combined with the whine of 5- and 6-cylinder bikes. Law enforcement led us through towns and back streets, across intersections, and continued about 25 miles stopping at Cherryville FD where the fire trucks were parked outside, and riders were directed through the engine bays and parking in the front of the station. We were greeted by the firefighters on duty, drew our first card, enjoyed a break with snacks and drinks. We left downtown Cherryville and headed out for another 25 miles, on Hwy 274 and 182 for a more rural setting at the Polkville Fire Department. This time, leaving the city behind, and enjoying longer stretches of back roads, with less intersections, and faster speeds. We passed country homes of varying sizes, slowed as we passed through areas with names like Lawndale and Fallston with their mix of old and new, until we arrived at Polkville. This time, we waited a little longer so bikes with smaller tanks could refuel before moving on. We were now in the country, with farms, and rural roads that began winding into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There was less traffic and the sun was now shining, warming the riders as we continued our journey. We headed out on Hwy 226 towards Forest City Fire Department. We were now enjoying the warmth, with less traffic, I noticed heads were looking around and enjoying the scenery, and riders seemed comfortable with the riders nearby. Cows came to the fences to see the spectacle, horses ran alongside the fences, seeming to chase the new Iron Horses, and home folk both old and young waved as we passed. Views increased as we crested hills and could see a mile of bikes in front of us led by blue flashing lights. and we were in riding heaven. Our last stop before the end, Forest City FD, provided our last snack, drink and rest stop before we pushed on to our destination. We had ridden 75 miles and had another 25 miles to go. The final leg of the journey had us traveling on Hwy 64 towards Lake Lure. As we climbed into the mountains, there were overlooks, vistas that allowed us to see for miles, a wall of rocks to our right, and sheer drop offs to the left. The warm sun felt good. We were at ease and enjoying every minute. Although we had already gone over 75 miles, it was apparent that no one was looking forward to stopping. But an end was in sight. Our final stop was the Lake Lure Fire Department where we received a gracious welcome, complete with drinks, hot dogs, and, of course, the drawing for best hand and door prizes. After such a wonderful ride, what next? Small groups began to depart the Fire Station. Some of us ended up at local restaurants overlooking Lake Lure. Others took off for even higher mountains, refreshing drinks, or back road riding. At the end of the day, over $3,000 was raised for charity, combined, the riders completed over 16,700 miles without accident or injury, and that didn’t count all the miles of those of us who still had another 80 or more miles to get home. A great job was done by the organizers in planning and conducting this ride. I Hope they do it again next year.

Hogs Gone Wild At Shady Side Story and photo by Alan Dockery

e are blessed with so many drag strips
around here. So, when I heard from my minibike racing buddies that a Harley race was going down at one of my favorite places, Shady Side Dragway, I had to see what’s up. About that same time, Roger Edgerton was planning Hogs Gone Wild. The blessings continued with a beautiful day at the little old country drag strip in Boiling Springs, NC, the first Saturday in April. Lots of us rolled in Friday and got our favorite pit spots. Saturday was a steady stream of bikes and cages rolling in for Harley drag racing, Minibike drags, Bike Show, Sound Contest, and vendors. The Shady Side crew was serving up some good food all day. The sun felt so good folks left the shade in the van. Roger has done other events and even had a Harley Drag Race at Shady Side before, but this time it all came together for a cool event. He set up several race classes and guys came for grudge matches against certain folks. I hope ya brought cash to back your claims and put some on your buddies racing, too. Like the Tshirt says, “What happened? You were so fast on Facebook!”
But the big draw was an old-fashioned, best-two-out-ofthree race between two nationally well-known men. Assim “Kadafe” Chaudhry has beaten lots of racers across the country on an incredible Outlaw Street Harley machine he calls King Kong. Recently he has been campaigning another bagger called Baby Kong. Kadafe’s bikes are built and tuned

by Gregg Dahl who is the top Harley Gas Motor Builder in the country. His rival was one of the most famous men in motorcycle drag racing, all brands, George Bryce. George owns and runs Star Racing where he can display lots of trophies including NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle wins. I won’t keep ya waiting. The first match up would have been a good close race, but George lit the red light at the starting line and that round was over. A couple hours later they came back to the line. It was a clean start and great race At the finish it was Kadafe beating George with a 6.20 ET to a 6.29. That was two races and Kafade took the belt and crown back to Pittsburgh. Bikes ran all afternoon. Roger lead some of the classes for a 20-mile street ride before the racing. Yep, gotta be streetable bikes. Come back from the ride straight to the staging lanes. Winners on Saturday afternoon were: Street Class: Bo Prez,ET Class: Josh Barino, Hot Street: Flacko Reid, Pro Street: Brandon May, Outlaw: Jason Brostt, Real Street: Dean Frank, and SoftTail: Eddie Reid. We didn’t run a ladder with the minibikes. We just paired up and grudge raced all afternoon. Some of the minibikes even squared off against baggers and dirt bikes. Folks were surprised to see how quick and fast some of the minibikes are now. Thanks to all the guys from Upstate SC Minbikes who came to Shady Side. After supper, that fried fish at Roger’s was good, some folks stayed for the night. We gathered down front to see Roger give out crowns to the winners and talk about all the folks he had there helping make Hogs Gone Wild a fun event. About dark a band I hadn’t heard in years, PeacePipe, took the stage. Man, they used to be the Harley Drags band back in the All Harley Drag Racing Association days. We heard them a few times a year. I like PeacePipe because they play lots of good music, mostly rock and roll, from way back when -up to my favorites on the alternative rock radio now. Yeah late at night folks left lots of marks on the pavement, too with burn out challenges. Roger wore his to the cords.

Check out my photos on The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine website Event Photos tab. Now I gotta preach a little. I’ve told folks for decades that drag racing is generally a very diverse sport. People of all ages, races, nationalities, religions, whatever drag race together. When women win national championships it ain’t no big thing because she ain’t the first. But when it came to motorcycle drag racing, there was a color divide. White guys tended to drag race Harleys and Black Guys raced Japanese Bikes. Yes, lots of us crossed over since it is drag racing. But I wasn’t always widely welcomed at a Jap Bike race where my skin and clothes stood out as different. Old Gray Beard White Guy. But you know what has changed motorcycle events in the last couple years? Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Yep, the old dead Motor Company rises again and changes the world. “This bagger thing has exploded,” Roger said. “People are leaving crotch rockets and going to baggers. They figured out that Harleys are a much more relaxing ride. I figured out it is much smoother, I ain’t bent over. I’m enjoying the ride and enjoying the bike more.” “You can have your big wheels and big motors. You can look good and run good on a Harley,” he said. So, one thing you may have noticed is Hogs Gone Wild was a more diverse group of people than you may have seen at Harley Drags in the past. I have for a couple years mentioned that I go to an event now and Old White Guys might ride in on Old Jap Bikes they just found or restored. And Black Guys ride in on cool custom Harleys they recently discovered are fun to ride. But when you have been used to a Hayabusa or GSXR or R-1, that low revving Harley seems slow. So, the guys new to Harleys are quickly building them to go quicker. I’ve always said bragging in the bar parking lot about all the stuff on your bike doesn’t mean anything. Show us ET Slips. And the baggers are coming to the strip and knocking down some cultural barriers too. “I didn’t target Black, White, Latino or anyone,” Roger said. “I just put on an event that I thought I, myself, would enjoy. And it worked. Now Hogs Gone Wild has a following.” Roger is planning a four-event series and will award Championship Belts to class winners in the Fall. I hope to make a couple more of his events and see y’all there.

having down there?” The Devil said, “Man, I don’t believe this ... Hold on.” This time the Devil was gone 15 minutes. The Devil returned and said, “I’m sorry Gabriel, I can’t talk right now. Those damn Bikers have put out the fire and are trying to install air conditioning.”
There’s a fellow who is an avid rider. Actually he’s a motorcycle fanatic. He has not missed a weekend of motorcycle riding in years. Every Saturday and Sunday morning he gets up very early and goes meets his buddies for a nice long ride. On this one morning, he gets up early, dresses quietly, gets his riding gear out of the closet, and goes out to the garage to prepare to leave. While out there it started raining a torrential downpour. There was snow mixed with the rain and the wind is blowing at 30 mph. He comes back into the house and turns the TV to the Weather Channel. From there he finds it’s going to be bad weather all day long. So he puts his bike back into the garage and comes back inside. He quietly undresses and slips back into bed where he cuddles up to his wife’s back, and whispers, “The weather out there is terrible.” To which she replies, “Can you believe my stupid husband is out riding his bike today?”
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter. “What are you doing?” she asked. “Hunting flies,” he replied. “Oh, killed any?” she said. “Yep, 3 males and 2 females,” came the answer. Intrigued, the wife asked, “How can you tell them apart?” Husband: “3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone.”

Homer, a handsome dude who liked to gamble, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 pm. He sat down next to a woman at the bar and stared up at the TV. The 10:00 news was now on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a tall building preparing to jump. The woman looked at Homer and said, “Do you think he’ll jump?” Homer said, “You know, I bet he’ll jump.” The woman replied, “Well, I bet he won’t.” Homer placed 20 dollars on the bar and said, “You’re on!” Just as the woman placed her money on the bar, the guy did a swan dive off of the building, falling to his death. The woman was very upset and handed her 20 dollars to Homer, saying, “Fair’s fair. Here’s your money.” Homer replied, “I can’t take your money, I saw this earlier on the 5 o’clock news and knew he would jump.” The woman replied, “I did too; but I didn’t think he’d do it again.” Homer took the money!
A little boy and a little girl attended the same school and became friends. Every day they would sit together to eat their lunch. They discovered that they both brought chicken sandwiches every day! This went on all through the fourth and fifth grades, until one day he noticed that her sandwich wasn’t a chicken sandwich. He said, “Hey, how come you’re not eating chicken, don’t you like it anymore?” She said “I love it but I have to stop eating it.” “Why?” he asked. She pointed to her lap and said, “Cause I’m starting to grow little feathers down there!” “Let me see” he said. “Okay” and she showed him. He looked and said, “That’s right. You are! Better not eat any more chicken.” He kept eating his chicken sandwiches until one day he brought peanut butter. He said to the little girl, “I have to stop eating chicken sandwiches, I’m starting to get feathers down there too!” She asked if she could look, so he showed her. She said, “Oh, my God, it’s too late for you! You’ve already got the neck and gizzards!”
The Angel Gabriel came to the Lord in Heaven and said, “I have to talk to you. We have some Bikers up here who are causing problems. They’re swinging on the pearly gates, my horn is missing, and they are wearing Tshirts instead of robes; there’s barbecue sauce and picante sauce everywhere, especially all over their T-shirts; their dogs are riding in the chariots, and chasing the sheep; they’re wearing doo rags and baseball caps instead of their halos. They refuse to keep the stairway to heaven clean, and their boots are marking and scratching up the halls of wisdom. There are sun flower seeds and hot wing bones all over the place. Some of them are walking around with just one wing; they refuse to walk and insist on bringing their “Hogs” with them.” The Lord said, “Bikers are Bikers, Gabriel. Heaven is Home to all my children. If you want to know about real problems, call the Devil.” The Devil answered the phone, “Hello --- hold on a minute.” The Devil returned to the phone, “O.K., I’m back. What can I do for you?” Gabriel replied, “I just want to know what kind of problems you’re having down there.” The Devil said, “Hold on again. I need to check on something.” After about 5 minutes the Devil returned to the phone and said, “I’m back. Now what was the question?” Gabriel said, “What kind of problems are you
The kids filed into class Monday morning. They were all very excited. Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on salesmanship. Little Sally led off. “I sold Girl Scout cookies and I made $30” she said proudly, “my sales approach was to appeal to the customer’s civil spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success.” “Very good”, said the teacher. Little Debbie was next. “I sold magazines” she said, “I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events.” “Very good, Debbie”, said the teacher. Eventually, it was Little Johnny’s turn. The teacher held her breath. Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher’s desk. “$2,467”, he said. “$2,467!” cried the teacher, “What in the world were you selling?” Toothbrushes”, said Little Johnny. “Toothbrushes”, echoed the teacher, “How could you possibly sell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?” “I found the busiest corner in town”, said Little Johnny, “I set up a ‘Dip & Chip Stand’ and I gave everybody who walked by a free sample.” They all said the same thing, “Hey, this tastes like dog poop!” Then I would say, “It is dog poop. Wanna buy a toothbrush? I used the Democratic Party’s method of giving you some crap, dressing it up so it looks good, telling you it’s free and then making you pay to get the bad taste out of your mouth.” An Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest’s breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car. He says, “Sir, have you been drinking?” “Just water,” says the priest. The trooper says, “Then why do I smell wine?” pointing to the wine bottle. The priest looks at the bottle and says, “Good Lord! He’s done it again!”

David Wesley Lytton 1/4/57-3/17/19
By: Alan Dockery & Gary Steelman avid Wesley Lytton’s big ole loving heart quit on him unexpectedly on March 17, 2019. David had a heart attack and died at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. I first met David at a drag strip somewhere years before I moved back to North Carolina. He was crew chief for a Sportster that Mike Nicholson was racing in modified class, I think. I saw their tech card and told him I was going back to Western Carolina once my 20 years in the service was up. I saw the TRI-MAX Racing Team become the Nitro Shack Race Team as David and Mike moved up to a nitromethane fueled machine. They were going much quicker, running a Pro Dragster. That’s the small motor, carbureted, single gear nitro bikes. I’m always impressed by guys like David who can make those machines run well. At the time of his passing, Dave was working with longtime friend Clyde Eller at STE Powersports, as the mechanic for the shop making sure customers got a great used bike from there. Dave was only 62. As co-owner of the Nitro Shack and racing drag bikes around NC, David has been a pillar of the biking community

David Lytton (left) and Alan Dockery on the New Year’s Ride around Iredell county for many years. On New Years’ Day David usually led a group ride down to Lake Norman for the Barefoot Ski Contest. He said, “If you are going to ride this year, best to start the year riding.” David was a kind hearted, hard riding brother to so many around Statesville, NC. David’s life symbolized what it is to
be a biker, a loyal friend, a father and a family man. His acts of friendship and kindness will be remembered by many. A whole bunch of bikers showed up for David’s celebration of life on March 24, 2019 at Beulah Baptist Church. The church was filled with friends and family paying their respects. After the service, with Rev. Brian Burgess officiating, we stood around outside by his bike telling stories of time spent with David, either working on a bike or of riding with Dave. There were around three hundred people at the church and over a hundred bikes. Following the service, there was a ride to Twin Oaks and back to Sasha’s on the Lake. (a couple of Dave’s favorite watering holes.) David will sorely be missed by his many friends. Ride in peace Dave, til our roads cross again.

Bros and Bro-ettes,
T
Is There A Crime So Evil You Can’t Get Into Heaven?
here is so much evil going on now -a -days, so many murders
and drug overdoses. When we watch the news, we see evil acts seemingly taking over our communities. We get so frustrated about the amount of hate, violence and negatively in the world. Some of the stuff that goes on and the acts people commit are pure evil, and what comes to our mind? We think they should burn in Hell. Well, this isn’t God’s way of thinking or the way He wants us to think, either. So, we have already committed a sin our self. Here is what the Bible says about sin: No sin is too great. We, as humans tend to think people who commit murder, or rape innocent women should be killed and go straight to Hell. WRONG! The truth is no sin is too great that God can’t or won’t forgive. Anyone that truly repents their sins and puts complete faith in God can and will be forgiven. The Apostle Paul is a great example of this. Before he came to Christ, he hated Christians and was responsible for many deaths. In Acts 9-1, Paul called himself the foremost of sinners: 1 Timothy 1: 15. “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I (Paul) am chief.” In Matthew 27, there is the account of Judas, who had betrayed Jesus, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself. Then were there were the two thieves crucified with Jesus. One on the right hand, and another on the left. The
two men lived only for themselves and mocked Jesus. But one of them hanging on the cross beside Jesus came to faith. Luke 23: 42-43: “Then he said to Jesus, Lord remember me when You come into Your Kingdom. 43 And Jesus said to him Assuredly I say to you today you will be with Me in paradise.” A lot of us don’t think people who commit murder or rape should still go to heaven. God loves His children so much (He’s a loving God), He refuses to turn His back on anyone. Many Christians and non-believers ask the question about unforgivable or eternal sin. Mark 3: 28-29: “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter. 29- but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness but is subject to eternal condemnation.” If you are worried because you might have committed that sin, you’re wrong. Having concerns about that reveals the complete opposite of what sin is all about. Those that are guilty wouldn’t care because they don’t stress over it. Blasphemy against the Spirit is not a one-time offense, but rather an ongoing attitude of rebellion against God by continually rejecting the Holy Spirit. No matter what we have done, the Lord is ready to forgive us of our sins. All we have to do is ask for forgiveness. The Bible is very clear that God is ready to forgive us. He wants us to be able to come to Him and celebrate eternal life with him in Heaven.

Gaston County Chapter Spring Fling Dice Run By: Jill Stillwell, President CBA/ABATE Of NC Gaston County Chapter
F
Dallas NC area, April 6th was truly a beautiful day to get out and ride for two good causes. The day started with overcast skies but eventually gave way to beautiful sunny skies. The Gaston County Chapter Spring Fling Dice Run benefitted the 24th Annual Gaston County Toy Run for Kids which is always held on the 1st Saturday in December. This year, the date will be December7th, in Gastonia, NC. The Gaston County Chapter of CBA/ABATE of NC helps benefit the legislative efforts of the CBA to promote laws that will be beneficial to motorcyclists and fight against laws/bills that would not be in the best interest of NC motorcyclists. The run started out with approximately 50 bikes at a Gaston CBA sponsor - No Limit Motorsports in Belmont NC. Ric and Bryan really showed their hospitality to our riders. We had riders who couldn’t do the entire ride but came by to support us by buying a dice hand, and/or raffle and 50/50 tickets. One thing we have started doing on our runs is having the person buying raffle and 50/50 tickets put their name and phone number on the back of their ticket, so when we draw, we don’t have to call out those long numbers. Plus, if anyone has to leave, we can get their prize to them. It has helped to increase sales of our raffle and 50/50 tickets. We had some great raffle prizes donated by our sponsors, members and friends of Gaston CBA. Next, the riders went to Dallas, NC to stop at another Gaston CBA Sponsor -Clock’s Cycle. Clock and Billie were also ready to visit with all the bikers that came through. Then we had a great ride to Blue rom all the rain we have had lately in the
Ridge Harley-Davidson in Hickory. Blue Ridge has supported the Gaston CBA for over 5 years, and we value their sponsorship. These great sponsors make it possible for the Gaston CBA to publish a monthly newsletter to let our members and friends know what is going on in Raleigh, Washington DC and also in our own area with other organizations and clubs. We ended up at one of our favorite sponsors – The Ole Dallas Brewery in Dallas, NC. The brewery is a registered member of the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild. ODB partners and Dallas natives Chris and Cliff Cloninger, Beau Norwood, Kyle Britton, and John Hoffman strive to bring quality craft beer to Dallas and the surrounding communities. Our food for the ride was chili beans and cornbread and we don’t think anyone went home hungry, or at least they shouldn’t have! Did you know that the CBA/ABATE of NC was instrumental in getting the motorcycle safety and awareness program added to the driver’s education curriculum? One hour of driver’s education is dedicated to teaching new drivers the differences between cars and motorcycles, how to watch for motorcycles, and how to interact and share the road with motorcycles while driving. We hope everyone who rides a motorcycle or care about those that do will support the efforts of the CBA/ABATE of NC or an SMRO in your state by becoming members and attending events. Gaston County CBA/ABATE will have our annual “Our Right to Choose Ride” on July 4th beginning at Roses, 605 Park St., Belmont NC.KSU at 10:30 am sharp! There is no cost to ride because this is our annual protest to the legislators in our state asking them to pass legislation that will allow us the right to choose to wear or not to wear a helmet. Hope to see you there!

Meeting A Legend By: WildThing
E
very now and then an opportunity comes your
way and it behooves you to take advantage of it. Lost opportunities are one of life’s greatest regrets. Such was the case on March 26th of this year, an opportunity was offered, and I was glad I made the effort to go. Smokin’ Harley-Davidson in Winston-Salem put out the word that a world renown lady motorcyclist of was appearing at the dealership for a ladies night billed as: “Lipstick and Leather Ladies Night”. The guest for the evening was Gloria Tramontin Struck. I had seen her picture and read about her several times in books about pioneering women on motorcycles, paving the way for us. When I arrived shortly after six, the showroom at Smokin’ was abuzz with excited women, many standing in line, purchasing Gloria’s book and waiting to meet her and have her autograph her book. I joined right in, not wanting to miss a photo op or a new book. The crew at Smokin’ had put out a nice spread of snackies complemented by wine and champagne. When the line to meet Gloria had dwindled down, Smokin’s GM, Ray Perry stepped up and welcomed everyone and introduced the H.O.G. Director, Sandy, who was responsible for inviting Gloria Struck to NC. You see, Gloria was an original Motor Maid, the oldest and probably the first women’s motorcycle riding club. Sandy is a Motor Maid, too, and had met Gloria at a Motor Maid convention. Without much ado, Sandy introduced Gloria Tramontin Struck and gave her the floor. She is a vivacious engaging 93-year-old motorcycle enthusiast and it was a pleasure to listen to her tell of her adventures riding. She had an advantage
not many of us do, in that she was born into an early motorcycling family, her father being an Excelsior-Henderson dealer. Later, the dealership became and Indian dealership, and still later, under Gloria’s brother leadership it became a Harley-Davidson dealership. Now, Tramontin Harley-Davidson operates at two locations in New Jersey. Gloria told the group some of her family history, of her riding trips to Motor Maid conventions and yearly rides to Daytona and Sturgis. She talked about her dream trip to ride in Europe, which she accomplished in 1950at 25 years old! She went again in 1999 with her son, Glenn. All this for a gal who didn’t want to learn to ride at age 16, when her brother insisted she learn – and she’s been riding ever since. After regaling us with her tales, Gloria took some questions from the audience, which she had ready answers for. I bet she’s been asked these things before. Then Sandy came back

up and some real nice goodie bags and door prizes were given to lucky ticket holders and the evening wound down. All her stories are collected in her book: “Gloria, A Lifetime Motorcyclist”. She told us that she didn’t know how to write a book, so she just started talking, telling her stories, and they turned into a book. She added many pictures that help tell her story. Her acknowledgements in the front of the book are like a Who’s Who of motorcycling, but I guess if you’ve been riding for 75years and ride everywhere, you would know some folks! Gloria ended her talk with her personal quote “Live Your Dreams”, she says that is what life is all about – “do it while you can”. Her stated goal now is when she is 100 years old, she wants to go on a cross country trip on her motorcycle. What a gal! It was a wonderful evening at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, thanks Ray and Sandy for making it all happen. I was glad for the opportunity to meet a legend. And I’m glad to have her book to enjoy reading her stories. If you missed out, the book is available at Amazon, I checked!

Crimson Crusaders 4th Annual Biker Sunday
By Wally Wersching n Sunday April 7th, the Crimson Crusaders Motorcycle Ministry held their 4th Annual “Biker Sunday” at the Landmark Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. At about 9:45AM, I pushed “Miss Vickie” out of the garage, and right back in again - it was raining. It wasn’t supposed to rain. I don’t ride in the rain unless I get caught in it. I never start out in the rain, so I drove the GTO. It rained hard all the way to the church. I went to the tent, signed the register, gave them a stack of The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazines, and had a KrispyCrème donut while we waited for things to start. The rain slacked off a little to a drizzle. I met a few old friends as they rode in – a little wet! I made a few new ones, too. At 10:30, we all filed into the hall where the band “Mercy Heart” was playing on the stage. They are really very talented. After we were all seated, Pastor Davis went on stage, welcomed everybody, and tried to recognize all the different biker ministries represented in the congregation. There were so many, it took quite a while for all to be acknowledged. Most of them, I have heard about but there were some I hadn’t. There were quite a few from the Frontline Biker Church in Kershaw, SC. Members of the Landmark Church brought more and more chairs into the gym to accommodate the large crowd. Then Pastor Davis started the Sunday service. After a while, he introduced Cotton Pate the featured preacher from Frontline Biker Church in Kershaw, SC. Then, “Mercy Heart” played a few more sing-along tunes. Afterwards, Preacher Pate began to speak. He didn’t want to go on stage because during his sermon, he likes to interact with the congregation. I tried to take a picture of Preacher Pate during his sermon, but he was moving around so much, it all came out a little blurry. Everyone really enjoyed his style of preaching. I would say that his was the
O
real “Fire and Brimstone’ sermon where he actually confronts the devil, and through very loud preaching of the Word of God, the devil is cast out. If I were the devil, I would be afraid of the way he delivered the Word of God, too. When the service was over, the congregation filed out of the hall to where lunch was served with all the fixin’s that went with the hamburgers, and hot dogs. The cooks were very conscientious about how the food was prepared and displayed – and it showed. Then, I had to leave. It was a great finish to a memorable morning. I will have to go to their 5th Annual “Biker Sunday” next year to see how they can make it even better. It won’t be easy. This year’s “Biker Sunday” was pretty amazing!

Annette Morgan Benefit
By: Karen Hatchett nnette Morgan woke up the morning of February 5 with trouble talking and walking. Her daughter, Kaitlin Morgan, took her to the hospital to find out she had suffered a cerebral stoke and at the young age of 49 she spent 4 days in the hospital years. Therapy continues for Annette and after 7 weeks she is at 60% recovery. This has caused financial burden for Annette because she is unable to work, and her daughter also lost time from work to care for her mother. Most in the local biker community have known Annette for many years. She has bartended at different biker establishments, including but not limited to Kickstands and Chunk’s Hawg Haven. She has been very involved in the past, donating her time in helping with many benefits for others in need. I know personally I could always count on her help with our Annual Shriners Children’s Hospital Benefit and Ride. Punkin Sampson and Karen Stone Yates decided to hold a benefit to help with financial burden. On Saturday April 6, it all came together at Buddy’s Bar and Saloon in Pleasant Garden, NC. The weather was beautiful for a great ride to Liberty Tavern, Red Zone and High Point Moose Lodge, then ending up back at Buddy’s with a full house of support. DJ Jason Carr spun some great tunes, food plates were sold and there was a bake sale as well. There were many raffle and auction items. The benefit raised $3,165 with other cash donations of

$1,000, bringing the total to $4,165. Many thanks to all who stepped up to help. Tony Sams and David for cooking up the BBQ. Kaitlin Morgan and Tina Thomas Foyil for help with raffle and door prizes. Darlene GreesonStewart, Beverly Wise Brown, Paula Seawell Parks and all others who donated to the bake sale. Jeff Schmid for leading the ride and auctioning items. And last but not least, a great big thanks to all who came out to help a friend in need. In Annette said, “I have amazing family and friends! Thank you all with my whole heart!! ” Please continue to keep our friend in your prayers during her recovery.

Benefit For Guilford County NC Alzheimer’s Association
By: Rose his Benefit started out as an idea to celebrate Lloyd Luquer’s retirement, on March 31st. He would not let me have a party, so I convinced him to let me do a benefit in honor of his father Wayne Luquer, whom we lost last year to Alzheimer’s disease, Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease. It devastates the victims and all who love them. With always available help from David and Missi Thompsons, owners of Double D Burn Out Saloon in Kernersville, we set the date for March 31st. We sold tickets to raffle off a fire pit on the day of the event. It was won by Lincoln Infield for his father Mark Infield. Food was donated by so many women; I have to give a shout out to each: Kirby, Missi Thompson, Miranda Dawn, Lisa Reedy, Vickie Cribb, and Marsha Frazier. The food was great. Much appreciation for all the hard work with food, raffle donations, and just working. These were just a few that made this event
T
happen. Thanks to Rose Kirby and my daughter Keri-Jo Brooks for keeping all the money straight. Thank you to my grandsons, Logan Brooks and Landon Brooks for using their day to hand out freebies from Bob Karney, and Gary Poole. The band, The Blue Genes, donated their time and was great entertainment. Many thanks to everyone who worked hard all day to raise close to $2,600 for Guilford County, NC Alzheimer’s Association Kim Blanchard with Alzheimer’s Association came out with freebies and we presented the money raised by 50/50, raffle, food, and auction to her. A very special thank you to The Austin Group and Scott Ostander for the donation from their showroom of a beautiful bed. These events would not happen without you, the bikers, standing together in the time of need. So, the biggest “Thank you” to each of you for opening your hearts and giving so much. As for Lloyd; it is on to the new journey of retirement for him.

Charlotte CBA Bike Show & Swap Meet
P
eople gauge the beginning of spring by the last frost, the
actions of a large rodent, or maybe even the calendar, but in North Carolina, it’s not spring until we go to the Charlotte CBA Spring Swap meet and bike show. It was the best weather that I had seen at this party / swap meet / family reunion in a couple tries and everyone wanted in. The vendor loop outside was packed, or rather piled, up with motorcycle parts and other goodies. I love traveling from
site to site and checking out the different baskets, buckets, cardboard boxes, tarps and tables with their bits and pieces of bike parts and other motorcycle lore. Some sites have newer packaged and shiny parts and others are greasy and on the
harder to find list. It’s always good to see some friends set up and I got a chat with Shannon and Dexter Rights with Tom McGrath’s Law Firm and signed up to win a totally free Ducati Scrambler. I also ran into Luke Heafner of Iron Horse Motorcycles and swap meet main stay Vince Cason of Vince’s Good As Gold. The Karney Law Firm is also set up and got a chance to chat with Bob Karney & Sean Clayton. The house band Z 69 and keep the air waves full of good old classic rock tunes. They are set up inside a huge tent that is also home to the best buns

and wet t-shirt competition that always brings a crowd later in the day. The CBA are set up as well with T-Shirts, patches and good information. I took advantage of the convenience and renewed my CBA Membership while I was there. The CBA staff was hard at work keeping the event flowing and hooking up folks with freebies they won from spinning the prize wheel. This is a great group of folks and I enjoy seeing them every year. Thanks for all your hard work in keeping the swap meet going and keeping an eye on motorcycle legislation.

Jason Russell Won 1st Place People’s Choice Award The second round of vendors are inside a large building -less greasy parts and more of T-shirts, goods and services. Always a good place to look for new patches, stickers, too. This year, inside the large building I got a few minutes to visit my friends Ms. Pat and David at the His Laboring Few table and slid over to check out what custom parts Zach, Kristen, and Kamilla of The Rebel Spirt had on display. The third building on the Rowan Co. Fairgrounds holds the bike show. This is always a good building to be in. There are some really great bikes; from antique to radical and all points in between. The bike show building also has its own beer tub and cantina which is always popular. While you are checking out the bike show there is an acoustic duo jamming out and a few more vendors set up. It was a great day, I only found a handful of things I couldn’t live without, but there was a ton of other bits and parts that got me thinking that I may need to pick them up next time around! The good news is, this swap meet happens twice a year! Go ahead and mark your calendar for the CBA fall swap meet at the Rowan Co. Fairgrounds November 9-10, 2019. But, not to worry, it will be listed in the Cruisin’ Calendar in the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine, so you won’t miss it! I like the fact that the Charlotte CBA uses the proceeds from their swap meets to further the cause of bikers’ rights in North Carolina. So, keep in mind when you see Watch A Video Abo their ad for the swap meet and bike shows coming up that your support dollars stay in North Carolina and are for the good of all bikers in North Carolina. 3 Bike Nights In 3 Hours
North Carolina has is killer bike nights. Just head in any direction, you will end up at a bike night. Thursday is a particular hotbed of bike nights. Thursday, April 4th I headed out to see what I could get into. It was Ted’s Famous Chicken’s bike night kickoff of ne thing the triad area of
and left. The bar was packed but the bartenders were in stride and had no problem keeping the masses from getting parched. After some normal tire kicking, chewing the fat and whatnot, I needed to get in a little more riding. No worries, Smokin’ Harley-Davidson is right down the road and they were putting on their monthly bike night bike show complete with cash prizes. I cruised on down there and to see what Bill Dotson and GM Ray Perry had up their sleeve. There were a dozen or so sweet rides in the show I was glad I wasn’t among the judges at this show. Tom McGrath’s Law Group (The Firm That Rides) had thrown in to support the evening
the year. Ted’s is an easy choice and has a bike night that is tried and true. I started my evening there with a couple hundred of my closest friends all jamming out to Double Down. This acoustic duo is always fun to watch and pull out hits right and Shannon Rights was there to help Bill and Ray pick the winners. The Smokin’ crew knows how to make bikers happy and even had a keg of FREE beer. That’s right, a bike show with cash prizes and free beer. Anthony was manning the keg and perfecting the pour. The judges did their thing and a beautiful 95th anniversary Lowrider took top honors. Well, the night was still young and good thing for me Xtreme Wings-N-Things is just up the hill from Smokin’ and guess what? That’s right, it’s bike night! Xtreme always brings the heat on bike night and had the Thrillbillies on the inside stage. By now, I saw some of my friends who had also started their night at Ted’s had migrated to Xtreme to keep the party going. Lemme tell you, this place was packed! The pool tables were

The Dukes Motorcycle Rally
By Buzz n March 30 all but 10 of the registered motorcycles in North Carolina were at Judy’s Place Too for the Dukes Motorcycle Rally. You see, Tony Dukes is a local legend and is battling cancer, and apparently everyone in the area knows Tony. So when the call was made to have a Benefit for him, everyone answered. Judy’s Place Too was overflowing with bikes by 11am, and even though it’s not the biggest parking lot, the overflow filled 2 other parking lots nearby and the street was parked full as well. The turnout of support was awesome!
O
There were 4 stops to be made, no cards, no route, just a full on roaming party that ended at Ted’s Famous Chicken with live music, silent and live auction, cold beer and a whole lot more fun. The silent auction had some great items from leather vests, Harley shoes, NASCAR memorabilia and lot more. Butch Watson of High Rollers Cycle Seats came out to run the live auction. works, painted up some killer helmets that brought in some big bucks. One of the helmets brought $2000+ !!! and then it was given to Carly, one of Tony’s daughters! It was one of those really great human moments. The auction went on and folks were bidding up items like steering wheels, The Rebel Spirit custom handlebars, and other cool stuff.

It was an awesome day, with a ton of friends that all came together to show how much they care about Tony Dukes. The whole day was the vision of Tony’s daughters: Tori, Carly, and Lacey and the consensus was, that the Duke girls sure do love their dad. Let me tell you guys, this was one hell of a day and the list of folks who donated merchandise, time and money is an absolute laundry list. This is what the biker community does best, take care of their own. I’m proud to be part of it.

9th Annual CBA/ABATE Chili Cook-off By: Wally Wersching he Concerned Bikers Association/ABATE of Cleveland County held their 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off at the Shelby VFW Post 4066 Hall on March 16th, 2019. The CBA/ABATE is an organization that promotes the biker image while enlightening legislators of legislation that affects all bikers. ABATE was started for bikers to organize in order to fight against federal and state restrictions on motorcycling. In North Carolina, the CBA and ABATE have merged into one organization for the betterment of the biker community. The Cleveland County CBA/ABATE is trying very hard to keep the biker community informed. Clint (the president) and his wife, Haley (the vice-president) are working very hard together, and it shows in their organization and enthusiasm. The cook-off started at about noon. I arrived at the VFW Hall about 2:30PM. While parking “Miss Vickie” in front, I could smell the aroma of chili cooking in the back The breeze carried the delicious smell over the top of the building. I stood there enjoying the moment when a young man rode in on his Harley. After he parked, we talked about his bike and how his taste in motorcycles had changed over the years. His new Harley was the first comfortable bike he had. His other bikes were more for a younger man. We walked over to “Miss Vickie”, and I explained why I thought that she was better than the Harley. He was impressed by all her standard features that
T
are still options on a Harley. Then we walked around back. When we arrived around back, we saw all the chili pots being watched by all the different cooks. All the cooks were cooking their special recipe for chili - to get their name engraved on the plaque with all the past winners. This year’s competition was in memory of Amy “Shorty” Norris who was the chili champ in 2012 and 2013. I passed out copies of the “The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine” and then walked over to talk with Pegleg. He and Spanky were some of the first cooks at the event. They are both members of the CCIB (Cleveland County Independent Bikers), and very interesting characters. They really take the chili competition seriously. They all wanted to win! I was surprised to see Radar and Squirrel had a pot of chili cooking. I worked with Radar a few lifetimes ago. His chili was a little more colorful with green peppers in it. Everybody had a pot of chili cooking near their table. The atmosphere was really laid back. Everyone was enjoying themselves. They had been cooking their chili since noon. The judging would take place at 5:00PM. Metrolina Motorsports brought their raffle bike to the event. The bike named “Not Guilty” will be raffled off on November 9th, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Purple Heart Homes www.purplehearthomesusa.org – a charity that is improving veterans’ lives one home at a time. I’m sure that the three judges had a very hard time determining the winner. The aroma in that parking area was intoxicating. It smelled so good, and The judges determined that 1st place went to Kelly Reynolds for his third win, 2nd place went to Scott Humphries (last year’s winner), and 3rd place went to Radar & Squirrel. The cook-off was another success, and I’ll definitely go back again next year. I will also keep an eye out for future CBA/ABATE events so I can continue to enjoy the company of my new friends. Shelby & Cleveland County CBA/ABATE & Shelby VFW Post 4066 will host a Poker Run for Autism on May 4th. Check The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruizin’ Calendar for more info.
