W

ell Happy New Year! I do not want to hear about all the weight that you gained over the holidays. Do you think I am blind? Do I look like I am interested in your lame New Year’s resolutions? I have been making the same ones for years, too. But I am ready to get into the year 2013 and make something of it, aren’t you? That is what it is all about, anyway, isn’t it? So looking ahead, here’s what I see. The NC Legislature is scheduled to reconvene on January 30th and February 6th is NC CBA Lobby Day in Raleigh. At the July State Meeting, NC CBA voted to introduce a bill to “Let Those Who Ride, Decide” as long as you are over 18 and have a $10K medical insurance policy. There are many new faces in Raleigh and perhaps if we compromise with them (?) they will allow us to enjoy the Liberty that the US Constitution and Bill Of Rights already grant us. In this issue you will find an article named “North Carolina Helmet Victory”. This is an important article because it tells about Liz Sorrell of Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group defending a motorcyclist who was improperly cited by a law enforcement officer who didn’t know the law he was trying to enforce. Such is the case in many such instances and as these cases move forward, we are inching toward a day when the court and law enforcement will recognize that the law as written is unenforceable and ultimately needs to be changed. I propose ending the dilemma of writing and interpreting this law by doing away with it. BTW Tom McGrath’s Motorcycle Law Group handles these cases Pro Bono (for free), so please contact them if you should require their services. In the meantime there are some things that you need to know to PRESERVE your rights in the event of a traffic stop. FlexYourRights.org is an excellent source for information on how to protect your rights. On their website you learn what to do and not do during a traffic stop, when the police come to your home, when you are arrested, and other situations. You can also purchase “10 Rules for dealing with Police” and “Busted” on DVD, which is a convenient way to share this information with those you care about. You should study this information and then give it to your children and friends. It is that important. On a lighter note, the Easyriders 2013 Bike Show is coming to the Charlotte Convention Center on January 26th. This is a 1-day show this year, so plan accordingly. Stop by and see The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine there. Plans for the 15th Attempt, Almost A Tradition, Pre Daytona, Valentine’s Day Party & Oyster Roast are coming along nicely. The Fear OF February Party will be held at Horsefeathers Roadhouse in Sherrells Ford, NC. This is a great location that is easy to get to for most of NC and SC. It’s not far from anywhere. Check it out at HorseFeathersPark.com. We will have Free oysters courtesy of Bob Karney, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer, Free Chicken Wings courtesy of US Food Service, bike games, a diamond heart pendant and a BIG screen TV giveaway, music by Jeff Gates Band (cdbaby. com/cd/jeffgatesband2), a great selection of beverages and if you don’t like oysters, you can order off of the Horsefeathers Roadhouse menu. Plan to come and spend the afternoon. Hell! Do like we do - stay the evening, too. We will have shuttle service available to a several local motels, just in case. S#!t happens!

Quotable Quote

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Cesare Beccaria, On Crimes and Punishment, quoted by Thomas Jefferson in Commonplace Book, 1774-1776

The cool ocean breezes, breath-taking scenic riding along over 100 miles of barrier islands and fantastic watering holes make Outer Banks Harley-Davidson® a rider’s destination, and home to one of the best spring rallies on the East Coast, Outer Banks Bike Week™. Outer Banks Harley-Davidson®, is located in Harbinger just two miles north of the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge, the gateway to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Outer Banks Harley-Davidson® is a full service dealership including Authorized Harley-Davidson® Rentals. As the host dealership for Outer Banks Bike Week™, Outer Banks H-D® serves as the hub for rally activities. Several guided tours are provided by the Outer Banks H.O.G. Chapter on a daily basis, to include the “Run 4 The Ferry” ride. This 80 mile southern beaches excursion takes riders to places that pirates traveled 300 years ago such as the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (the tallest light house in the U.S.), and then for those who are interested, onto the Hatteras-Ocracoke Ferry to Ocracoke Island. Many describe the 30-40 minute ferry ride as just plain relaxing while they check out the endangered brown pelicans skydiving into the sea for food, or just letting the gentle NC ocean breeze take all their worries out to sea.

Other activities during Bike Week include the traditional activities such as bike shows, poker runs, vendors on-site as well as 9 other locations, live bands, Miss Bike Week bikini contests, tattoo contests, evening party spots, and yes, even cole-slaw wrestling. There is a little something for everyone. In town for the event every year is the H-D® Demo Fleet, where you can test ride a current model year H-D® motorcycle. There are hundreds of miles of beachfront riding, or if you prefer, explore the marshlands south of Manteo. One of the other area attractions is the Corolla Wild Horses. Until recent years, the Outer Banks of North Carolina were considered some of the most isolated and underdeveloped areas in the country. The Corolla Wild Horses are believed to have roamed over the past four centuries on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There are also five historical lighthouses stretching along the 100 miles of coastline of the Outer Banks from the Currituck Lighthouse all the way down to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Don’t forget, the Outer Banks are also home of the Wright Brothers and their historical first flight, and Jockey’s Ridge, the largest natural sand dune on the east coast.

25th Annual Roger Hendrix Memorial Toy Run

By: Roger T. Hendrix Jr. November 17 & 18, 2012 Wow! Where to begin? After just about giving my stepmother a nervous breakdown, my wife, kids, and I made the cross-country trip from Oregon to North Carolina (and she thought we would not come). After settling in, visiting and a night of much needed rest; we took a short drive out to Flatline Customs to see where the events of the weekend would take place. We casually spoke to Rick Bentley who had no idea who we were, but was happy to take a break from wrenching on one of his latest projects to visit with us. After introducing ourselves we said our farewells and started to get ready for Saturday and Sunday. Many preparations had already taken place, as they always have in the previous years. This year Rachel Fleitz from Topsail High School provided the winning entry for the t-shirt design. Food was purchased, entertainment was lined up, and Wrightsboro Fire Department once again provided tables and chairs. Those who participate in the ride may think that these things just happen, but many of them do not realize the level of commitment that goes on behind the scenes in the months leading up to the events. Several people donate time and energy to this event, some of them knew Roger, some of them just want to do something special for the families that this event helps. The planning committee who help pull all this together, Jeff Hughs, Rick Bentley, Susan Sykes, Pollyanna Likens, and Peggy Hendrix Irwin deserve a special thank you. On Saturday, the fund raising BBQ took place. There was a 50/50 raffle, toy donations, raffles from some of the local establishments who donated, T-shirt sales, live music from Honeymoon Pajamas, and Two Of A Kind, along with plenty of delicious food, deserts, and an all around excellent mood. The run is usually a short ride, several bikes, with a sheriff’s escort from Flatline Customs to the Hampstead community, but Sunday did not give us the weather we were hoping for, a downpour kept most at home, however a few bikes made it, and a handful of trucks and cars showed up. The ladies auxiliary from American Legion post 167 provided more delicious food for those willing to brave the elements on Sunday. A special shout out to Mrs. Braswell for some of

the best beans I have ever had the pleasure of wrapping my taste buds around. Due to the weather being so bad, Scott Britt offered his location the following Sunday, during his toy run event, to continue the raffle of the Honda CRF-100 dirt bike. Santa Jack was kind enough to pull the ticket and the winner was Ed Foster and his very excited son. Thanks Scott! Every year several sponsors help to keep this event going. On behalf of everyone and myself. I would like to thank Flatline Customs, Wolf Track T-Shirts, Lloyd’s of Landscape, SOD Surfboards, PT’s Olde Fashioned Grill, Tru-Clean, Billy Goats, Britt Motorsports, Al Sidbury Construction, Locals Tavern, The Fat Pelican, BSA Troop 218, Behind Bars Lifestyle Apparel, Canady and Son Exterminating, and S.C.R.E.A.M. INC! My thanks go out to Wild Child Custom Grafix who provides us with our banner. Last but not least, all the staff and kids at UNCW for the toys. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each and every one of the volunteers, participants, and those of you who were able to donate in any way and to keep this very special event going in the memory of my dad. May you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Happy NEW YEar!

By: Hank Brower Saturday, November 17th, the temperature was about 26º when I left Asheville headed for Henderson County Toy Run at Fletcher Park in Fletcher, NC. Registration time was 10:30 and the mercury had jumped all the way up to the low 40’s. By mid day, the temperature reached up around 57º, just perfect for a toy run. The number of bikes was over 500 and KSU was at 1:30. The ride was approximately 25 miles on some of the back roads of Henderson County. Lots of folks were along the sides of the road waving and giving the thumbs up for the group of bikers as they rumbled thru their neighborhoods. The ride ended at the Henderson County Courthouse. All the toys were left on the Courthouse steps to be picked up and distributed to the kids of Hendersonville Mr. C’s Mobile DJ provided an excellent mix of music. He also did the door prize give aways along with his better half, know as “Vanna White”. The winner of the 50/50 took home over $600! Awesome! Thanks to the Henderson County Sheriff, Hendersonville Police and area Fire Departments, with help from other smaller police and fire departments’ personnel doing roadblocks. Thanks again for a fine and outstanding job. It was a great turn out from a great effort by all that were involved.

Christmas Open House At Honda Of Winston-Salem By: Caroline When I heard that Honda of WinstonSalem would have something special to celebrate the holidays, I made sure I was there. The showroom was decorated in a festive way that would entice everyone to want a new motorcycle or ATV. Also, to get everyone in the holiday spirit, there was hot chocolate or apple cider to sip with your Christmas cookies. The kids were certainly not left out of the festivities and were treated to a visit with Santa Claus. He took time to talk to each of the children as well as any adults that wanted to tell him their Christmas wishes. I told him a 4-wheel ATV and a Go-Pro camera were on my wish list. However, I was told that I had a long way to go to get that from Santa. That’s OK, I will work on that this year! Anyway, you don’t have to wait for Santa Claus to bring you any of the fun at Honda of Winston-Salem. They have it in their inventory! Just go on down there and the friendly staff will get you all set up with some cool toys. They are located at

591 South Stratford Road in Winston-Salem or you can check them out at www.hondaws.com.

2012 Burlington H.O.G. Toy Run

By: Scott Wicker Slightly cooler temperatures didn’t stop having a great turn out as Down Home HarleyDavidson and the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter hosted their Annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Run. Over 50 bikes and riders participated in the 2012 event and due to the support from bikers in the Burlington, Graham, and Alamance County area, over $500 and a pick up truck full of toys were collected. All the participants that registered received special commemorative pins for the ride. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Alamance County Sheriff’s Department escorted the ride and provided safety the entire route that started and ended at Down Home Harley-Davidson. After returning to Down Home Harley-Davidson, we were served lots of great food that really hit the spot making this a fun day and a good time spent with good friends and fellow riders. Also, after the ride, there was time for the kids and grown ups to meet with Santa Claus and get their pictures taken with him.

By: Caroline Last November 17, Smokin’ Harley-Davidson teamed up with Ziggys and 100.3 “The Buzz” radio to sponsor a benefit ride for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots Christmas toy drive. This proved to be an extra special event with Jackyl front man, Jesse James Dupre leading the ride. He had specifically asked to be a part of a benefit when he came to town and being a rider, Smokin’ had no problem getting him a bike ready to ride. There were 75 riders that netted $850 cash plus 2 ½ boxes of toys - and that was the status right after the ride. I am sure that more donations have been collected since Smokin’ continued the drive by continuing to be a toy drop off up to Christmas. The riders met back at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson for lunch and the fun continued later on that night with the Jackyl concert at Ziggys in Winston-Salem. This ride was such a success and everyone had such a great time, Smokin’ has made plans to make this an annual event around the third Saturday in November. So, put this on your calendars and be ready to ride and help out a lot of kids next year.

Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Program By: Jay Phares November 17, 2012 A brisk and sunny November morning greeted over 1,100 motorcyclists from the Greenville, SC area, riding from Heritage Park in Simpsonville, SC to Harley-Davidson of Greenville in support for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Program. 1,700 people attended the event and over 2,000 toys were collected. These toys will help out approximately 10,000 needy families in Cherokee, Union, Spartanburg, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, & Abbeville counties in South Carolina. The Marine Corps Reserve has distributed drop boxes at approximately 250 local businesses and will collect an estimated 40,000 toys. Additional support for this worthwhile project is sponsored by other groups and businesses in the seven counties. Toys for Tots began in 1947, when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The idea came from Bill’s wife, Diane. In the fall of 1947, Diane crafted a homemade doll and asked Bill to deliver the doll to an organization, which would give it to a needy child at Christmas. When Bill determined that no agency existed, Diane told Bill that he should start one. He did. The 1947 pilot project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign. That year, Marine Corps Reserve units across the nation conducted Toys For Tots campaigns in each community in where a Marine Reserve Center was located. Marines have conducted successful nationwide campaigns at Christmas each year since 1948. The toys were collected by Marine reservists from the local

area with the help of the Young Marines Group from Greenville. A special thanks to CWO Harben and SSgt. Villasenor and all the other Marines for their time and commitment to this project. Harley-Davidson of Greenville was the sponsor for the day’s events and entertainment. A special thanks for all who participated in the ride and gifts to the children. You have brought a smile to many faces on Christmas morning. , 5,'(

Well, another Christmas season has arrived. The Brenner’s Children’s Hospital Toy Run has been completed. What an incredible show of support on our 15th year. I cannot express in words how grateful I am to all the folks that participated this year and in years past. Getting a behind the scenes look at what happens and how many dedicated people that work for many months before the actual ride day is both humbling and impressive. Without all the riders, sponsors, dealership staff, hospital staff, HOG chapters, riding clubs, as well as the incredible participation by the Sheriff’s and Police departments that clear the way to keep everyone safe, the ride would not be possible. As happy and proud as I was to receive recognition, it caused me to reflect on how this ride has a life of its own. You All, the folks that ride and the generous participants that don’t, make this ride happen. You see the sponsors from previous years seek us out, the riders from the past, both customers of Harley-Davidson of Greensboro and folks that don’t know us at all. Of all the charity groups that I work with throughout the year, this particular cause touches everyone. No one can be a parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, brother, or sister that can’t relate to an ill child. The holidays bring it home like no other time of year. So, as you can see, All of You deserve the recognition for this incredible experience. As appreciative and humbled as I am to have been thanked, the credit is not mine, nor any one person’s. It is all of you, the thousands of people over the years that support this cause, and show up every year and do what you can to make this a success. Thank You All from the bottom of my heart, you are all doing an awesome thing for the sick children of the Triad. Highest Regards, Mark Wheelihan, Harley-Davidson Of Greensboro

32nd Annual Smoky Mountain Toy Run

By: Gary Aiken Lately the weather hasn’t been very winter-like in the mountains of Western North Carolina, but that’s okay, especially if you are riding in one of the many area Toy Runs. Speaking of Toy Runs, it was a beautiful day for the 2012 Edition of the Smoky Mountain Toy Run held annually on the first Saturday in December. Saturday, December 1st was the thirtysecond year motorcyclists in Western North Carolina have ridden to benefit a local charity and help insure a merry Christmas for every child in need. For the third consecutive year it has been an honor to team with Eblen Charities Saint Nicholas Project. This year was bittersweet because we lost our Santa of twenty-seven years when Santa Tom Ballew passed away suddenly. The ride for 2012 was dedicated to Santa Tom. Saturday morning dawned a perfect day but the cool morning demanded layers of leather that were gradually shed as the morning slid into afternoon. A steady line of riders flowed under the draped American flag courtesy of two local fire departments. The flag hung from the fire trucks extended ladders and was directly behind a banner proclaiming, “Welcome, 32nd Annual Toy Run.” As the crowd grew you could feel the anticipation and excitement as riders milled around the tables and tents filled with Chili (courtesy of the Chili Cook-Off participants), donuts and coffee (courtesy of Biker-Down Motorcycle Ministry), t-shirt and pin sales and the beautiful ladies courtesy of Bob Karney, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer. Things just wouldn’t be complete without some great music courtesy of Clear Channel Radio and the annual 50/50 raffle. It didn’t take long for toys to start lining the stage as more and more riders arrived. Finally, after announcing the Chili Cook-Off winner; Fatz Café and after the drawing of the 50/50 winner, the obligatory rider briefing from an Asheville Police officer was given and it was time to leave. Two police officers on Harleys led the parade as the smiling riders departed the Kearfott parking lot. Hundreds of spectators lined US Hwy 70 on both sides of the road in anticipation of seeing the riders and the toys they carried. Young kids and adults waved and smiled as motorcyclists threw candy. For the small unincorporated community of Swannanoa, this is their Christmas Parade. Riding with my best friend, I couldn’t help but smile as I waved with the joy of knowing that in some small way we are helping to insure a merry Christmas for many kids who might not have one otherwise. For a full 35 minutes the parade of motorcycle riding elves made their way west toward Asheville and the final destination of City/County Plaza were the toys would be unloaded

and stacked, eventually becoming the largest number of toys I had ever seen at any of the many toy runs I had attended. In the end we had 1340 motorcycles and almost 1800 riders, perhaps more, because riders appeared to join in as we rode toward Asheville. Together with the kids in Buncombe County Schools, we raised thousands of dollars, and enough toys, that when the final count comes in, it will be close to 8,000! For an event of this magnitude it takes a full year of planning and an enormous amount of cooperation between law enforcement, fire departments, sponsors, schools, riding organizations, riders, and more. To all those that helped we say; “Thank You!” The Smoky Mountain Toy Run belongs to the people of Buncombe County and all planning and organization is administered by a committee consisting of all of these organizations. Together they work hand in hand to insure the success of this annual event. We are proud of the work we do and more so knowing that because of motorcyclists like you, every child in Buncombe County will have toys this Christmas. Our motto is simple; “FOR THE KIDS!” www.smokymountaintoyrun.com

Wingmen MC 30th Annual Toy Run

By: Joe Long Approximately 500 bikes pulled into the Cape Fear HarleyDavidson dealership in Fayetteville, NC the morning of 17 November. Bikers of all ages were there, not only to enjoy the beautiful fall weather, but also to support the 30th Annual Toy Run hosted by the Fayetteville Chapter of the Wingmen Motorcycle Club. The Fayetteville Wingmen, the city’s oldest and largest motorcycle club, was originally founded in the late 1970’s in Italy as the ‘Freedom Riders’ and was reestablished in 1979 as the Wingmen Motorcycle Club in Fayetteville, NC. Since that time, the Wingmen have been a permanent fixture in Fayetteville life. Consisting of military, former-military and civilians, the Wingmen MC has been holding the annual toy run for three decades. “The first toy run was a much smaller event,” remembers Murph, a founding member who attended the first toy run in 1983. “We only had about 100 bikes turn-out, and that number has grown steadily over the years,” stated Murph. The goal of the toy run is for all participants to bring a toy donation for the Fayetteville Urban Ministries (FUM). To collect the toys, the FUM brought two large trucks. All in all, the Wingmen received over 2000 toys and raised over $2000 to help underprivileged youth in Fayetteville. According to Bill Beard, long-time Wingmen and Toy Run coordinator, “The biggest difference this year is that the City of Fayetteville agreed to shut down part of Hay Street to accommodate the crowd.” He stated further, “This had never been done before, but we wanted to make the 30th something special, and the turn-out today really shows how big this event has become.” The Wingmen MC and other toy run supporters rode from the Cape Fear Harley-Davidson dealership through downtown Fayetteville to end at Huske Hardware House and Brewery on Hay Street across from the Art Institute. Bikes filled the streets for blocks and people could be seen enjoying the sunshine,

dancing to live music from “The Fifth”, eating catered food from Huske, and enjoying the special camaraderie that can only be found in the biker world. In addition to the Wingmen, several other Fayetteville-area motorcycle clubs showed their support for this great cause. The Wingmen MC would like to thank the other clubs that attended the event which included the Southern Sin MC, Veterans MC, Infidels MC, Special Forces Brotherhood MC, Silent Heroes MC, Nam Knights MC, East Side MC, and Southern Riders MC. Additional thanks go out to the City of Fayetteville, Cape Fear Harley-Davidson, Huske Hardware House and Brewery, Reed Lallier Chevrolet, Metro Bail Bonds, and Sean Fincher Nationwide Insurance of Fayetteville. “I am thrilled at how the 30th turn out today,” said Wayne, President of the Fayetteville Wingmen, “In fact, it was such a success that it will be tough to top next year!” That sounds like a good problem for the members of the Wingmen MC and the City of Fayetteville to have. The 31st Toy Run is already tentatively planned for December 7th next year.

15th Annual Brenner Children’s Hospital Toy Run By: WildThing It is hard to believe it has been 15 years! I remember the first toy run when we used to leave out of the old Plum Krazy’s parking lot. We thought we had a lot of bikes then, but it was nothing to compare to the 800 that showed up and rode out of Greensboro Harley-Davidson on Saturday, December the 8th. It was like a mini rally when we arrived a full hour and a half before kickstands up. They were selling event t-shirts, registering riders, and passing out raffle tickets and in store discount coupons for participants to use through December 31st. Folks were snacking on the spread put out by Painted Plate Catering, while others were helping to load the trailer with the mountain of toys and games gathered under the tree in the dealership. Then there was a whole other group relaxing at the umbrella tables in the motorcycle park and enjoying cold beverages. WFMY News 2 was on hand interviewing Mark Wheelihan, the owner of Greensboro Harley-Davidson, and others and taping the riders as we left. All the while, bikes kept pouring in and parking at the end of the line that by the time to ride came extended all the way to the cul-de-sac on Farragut Street. The parade ride to Brenner Children’s Hospital was ably escorted by the Guilford and Forsyth County Sheriff’s Departments, and the Greensboro, Kernersville, and Winston-Salem Police Departments, who all did a wonderful job of blocking entrance ramps on I-40 and brought us straight to the hospital. We were greeted at the doors by several young patients, parents, and hospital staff. This was very nice because in recent years fear of flu and cold weather prevented any such greeting! The task of unloading all the toys was accomplished quickly as everyone pitched in. Many toys were placed under the tree in the lobby and the rest taken down the hall to a storage room. These toys are given to the children in the hospital Christmas morning, as well as for special occasions throughout the year like birthdays, or just for a cheer up. The hospital staff set out a table of cookies and drinks for everyone to enjoy. Then Mark gathered the riders around to present the money donations to Beth Smith, the Director of Child Life at the hospital. This year’s Platinum Sponsors were: Advanced Technology Inc., Signature Property Group, Freedom Biker Church, and Triad V-Twin H.O.G. Club. Silver Sponsors were: Jarrett Sheet Metal, Chase-Logeman Corporation, Dean’s Office Machines, Shiffman’s Jewelers Inc., Triad Goodwill, The Painted Plate Catering, Genuity Concepts, and The Carolinas’ Full Throttle

Magazine. The Bronze Sponsors were: Buffalo Soldiers, Raw Nation, Timco, Chunk’s Hawg Haven, The Red T-Shirt Company, GSO Printing, and Royalty Marketing. Special Thanks is due to Brenner Children’s Hospital, Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, Greensboro and Kernersville Police Departments, WFMY News 2, The Triad Bad Lasses, and EVERYONE who participated in the event! The total money donated was $15,400 and Beth assured us that it would be used to lift the spirits of ill children all year long. Most of the crowd of riders headed on back to Chunk’s Hawg Haven at the Motorcycle Park next door to the dealership for the after party. There they were served hot vegetable soup, sandwiches from Sub Station II, and plenty of cold beverages. All who registered for the ride were given a raffle ticket which entered them in the drawing for the $250 Gift Card. Robin Saul, the proprietor, assisted by Alex Cobb, Promotions Director for Greensboro Harley-Davidson, got up on the bar and had to pull several tickets until a winner was present to accept it. Congrats to Leigh Ann Wilson of Greensboro – enjoy! It was a super day, a good ride for a good cause, and we were blessed with great weather. Watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for next year’s date. You want to ride in this one.

By: Diane Thomas On Saturday, December 8, 2012, Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson sponsored their 3rd Annual Toys for Tots run. All the proceeds benefit the American Red Cross. The sign up began at 10 am at Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson on Hwy 17 S. The turnout was awesome for a cloudy Saturday morning at the beach. There were well over 150 riders that showed up. The cost of admission was $10 per person or a toy to help a needy child. Thankfully, there were a lot of toys brought in for the children this Christmas. As the ride began, the sun came out and it warmed up nicely for December. The first stop was The Wild Horse Saloon and then on to the Beaver Bar before returning to Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson for a free Bar-B-Que lunch. There were door prizes and raffles throughout the event. All in all it was nice day of riding, mingling with fellow bikers, and all for a good cause, too.

3rd Annual Rock On! Ride

By: Mathew Pruitt Vulcan Materials Company held their 3rd Annual Rock On! Ride for the Boys Home of the South on Saturday, October 13, 2012. This annual event is held in support of the Boys Home of the South, an area group home for boys age 6-18. Their Lakeside Quarry in Piedmont, SC, once again held the anchor position for the start and end of the ride. The satellite stops this year were the quarries in Greenwood and Anderson. Ride chairman this year was Matthew Pruitt. He worked many hours pulling the event together. Pruitt Limousine also provided a limousine for the boys so that they could be escorted in style along the ride route. Matthew would like to thank all of the volunteers for their time and effort this year. All the work paid off, as we were able to gift the boys $3200 in Wal-Mart gift cards valued at $25 each. The boys will receive cards for Christmas, and additional cards for their birthdays. Extra cards will be given out to the boys coming into the program during the year. Many times these boys arrive with nothing other than the clothes that they are wearing. Your generous support for the 3rd Annual Rock On! Ride will help to provide these boys with the things that they need as well as a gift to give them comfort as they transition to their new surroundings. The ride day weather was perfect. We had all types of riders this year - motorcycles, jeeps, and cars joined together to enjoy the 100 plus miles along the route. Riders were greeted at the satellite stops by employees from the Greenwood and Anderson Quarries who served drinks and snacks. These satellite stops provided us with an opportunity to let the public

see, some for the first time, what a quarry looks like. After returning to Lakeside, our riders enjoyed BBQ prepared by B.R.A.T.S. BB-Q of Easley, as well as tours of the Lakeside Rock Quarry. Kids played in the Bounce House and took turns dunking Lakeside Plant Manager, Butch Gragg. Everyone who registered left with a door prize thanks to our many sponsors! Fastech, Inc. provided custom trophies for the winners of the car show this year. The trophies were made from car parts - a really unique addition to any trophy case! We are looking forward to planning our next ride! Go ahead and save the date, Saturday, October 12, 2013 and be a part of this ongoing event to make the holidays bright for the BHOTS (Boys Home Of The South).

The 10th Annual Arzie Rogers Toy Run By: Rose and Lloyd Ten years and still going strong! On November 18th, The Speedway H.O.G. Chapter #1150 and the Pat Rogers Speedway Harley-Davidson did it again. Three years ago the name of this ride was changed to the Annual Arzie Rogers Memorial Toy Run to honor Pat Rogers’ mother, and as he said in his opening statement, “Everyday should be for mothers. This is a great way to honor them.” The ride began at the Kannapolis Intimidators Stadium. Bikes were parked and put into formation by the Cabarrus County ROTC cadets. The ride, escorted by the Cabarrus County Sherriff’s Department was a beautiful ride through the country and the town of Concord, and then back to Speedway Harley-Davidson. Speedway Harley-Davidson was a buzz of 250 excited bikers socializing. Some of these people we only see on this ride. There was great music provided by DJ Todd Sullivan and it is always an honor to spend time with Carolina’s Biker Lawyer, Attorney Bob Karney and his wife,

So many “Thanks” go out to the employees and the volunteers that work so hard to make the Annual Arzie Rogers Memorial Toy Run a success every year. To each of the bikers that participated, you are awesome. No matter what the weather, you are here, doing what, we as bikers, do best, helping when the help is needed. You can still and all year make donations to the Empty Stocking Fund by visiting www.cooperatiministry.com. Every donation will put a smile on a child’s face and a smile in your heart. Santa At Smokin’ Harley-Davidson

By: Caroline For about the past 5 years or so, I have brought my grandchildren to see Santa Claus at Smokin’ Harley-Davidson. My grandson told me this year on the way there, that Santa, indeed, rode a motorcycle. I am not sure how he came about this information, but I don’t doubt it. On Saturday, December 15th, Santa Claus was at Smokin’ checking out the new rides but also taking time to talk to all the children and finding out what they wanted for Christmas. Each child also had their picture made with the Jolly Gentleman from the North Pole. You can see the images on their website www. SmokinHarley.com/ Pictures-With-Santa.htm. You know, all through the month of December, Smokin’ has been helping Santa by collecting toys for the Marine Corps Toys For Tots campaign. Also, for each new bike sold they have donated $100 of toys, as well. But now that the holidays are over, it’s time to get serious about some riding and this is the place to start. Go by 3441 Myer Lee Drive (I-40 Business, Exit 10) in WinstonSalem or check them out online at www.SmokinHarley.com. You can join their VIP club and get instant updates on every-

thing going on there. There has been plenty to see and do there this past year and more good times planned for this year.

By: Dolanne Fye Riders Fighting Breast Cancer (http://RidersFightingBC. com/) continues to grow in fans, followers, supporters and volunteers. Our checking account was opened in January of 2012. We have attended several events throughout the past ten months from bike nights, bike related specialty events, soccer sporting events in October for “Pink Out” celebrations. Our Founder Dolanne Fye was awarded a $500 award as a Runner Up in The Karney Law Firm Bulldog Heroes Contest. We are grateful for these opportunities and our corporate sponsors from our partners, The Last Word, Baxter Mobile Cleaning, Cranfield, Sumner & Hartzog LLC, and Twin Peaks Custom Cycle. We are so pleased to announce that, thanks to everyone’s support, we were able to provide our first 31 mammograms to women who do not have insurance November 2, 2012 along with Levine Cancer Institute “Project Pink”, Charlotte Radiology, and University City YMCA. Charlotte Fire Department’s “Pink Lady” came out to show her support as well. The Children at the YMCA Day Care even got in on the event. This was the longest and loudest “CHEEESE” I have ever heard RFBC is proud of their efforts. We are the only non-profit directly connected to Charlotte Radiology and Levine Cancer Center. Additionally, we are a 501(c) 3 and 100% volunteer organization with all proceeds going towards preventative screening and education. Recipients, providers and volunteers all left this day with gratitude. We are just getting started and look forward to more opportunities to assist more women in need. This cannot be done without support from you all. We are grateful. Keep up with us on Facebook as well as The Carolina’s Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar. Get involved with our “biker name for Dolanne” contest on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/RidersFightingBreastCancer/ in December. We will announce the winner and the winning name in January.

Tilley Harley-Davidson 40th Anniversary Open House Story and photo by Alan Dockery The Saturday before Thanksgiving, family, friends, and old customers gathered at Tilley Harley-Davidson in Statesville, NC, to celebrate 40 years that Don and Robinette Tilley have served riders. Forty years is a long time for any business and we have been fortunate to have the Tilleys take care of our Harley-Davidson sales and service needs through generations of riders from across the area. Hundreds of riders stopped by during the afternoon for food and beverages plus getting a few minutes to congratulate Don and Robinette. The Part Time Blues Band cranked out tunes in the parking lot many of us remembered from when we first started riding. Inside the dealership was busy with folks buying Genuine Harley-Davidson Parts and MotorClothes. You had to get in line sometimes to buy the special 40th Anniversary T-shirt. Bob Karney, Carolinas’ Biker Lawyer, was there with a couple of the calendar girls autographing their beautiful

2013 calendars. You can imagine how many great stories there are in 40 years as a Harley-Davidson dealer. If you want to read about some of them and see photos, pick up a copy of Tilley HarleyDavidson First Forty Years the book at the dealership. Starting in 1972, during the AMF years, Don and Robinette grew Tilley Harley-Davidson into two full dealerships in Statesville and Salisbury. Both provide all products and services offered by Harley-Davidson. They have rental bikes at both locations and a Riders’ Edge program at the Salisbury store. The service departments have dynos, even equipped for trikes, and specialized technicians with years of experience and quality work behind them. Don rolled out several of his famous race bikes and recent restoration projects. With so many cool machines and folks wanting to talk to him, it was hard to get a minute with Don. While folks were asking him about the pretty, little, baby blue Hummer, I was trying to pull him over to the first VR I’ve seen in a long time; a rare VR 1000 road race bike ridden by Jamie James. “Thank you to all of our loyal customers for forty years of success,” said Don and Robinette. “Without your support and return business the first 40 years could not be as successful. The customers are the ones that count and customer service is and always will be a top priority with the Tilley dealerships. We thank everyone for coming out for the 40th Anniversary and look forward to many, many, more years of serving our customers and the community.” Don says no ride is too long and let’s always be ready to ride!

22nd Annual Toy Run For Conover School Story and Photo by Alan Dockery The first day of December was great riding weather for the 22nd Annual Toy Run to benefit the Conover School, one of the premier special education schools in North Carolina. This is a favorite toy run for many folks and they turned out to make it the biggest yet. More than 600 bikes, and I don’t know how many riders, paraded through town waving to the people gathered along the way cheering us on. The Conover School Toy Run is different than most others where bikers bring toys to a central collection point. For this run, teachers select specific toys based on the children’s wants, needs, and abilities. Bikers pay the tab through a charity managed by ride organizer, Mike Dyson. Riders contributing to the toy run raised $20,500 to cover expenses. This year the ride ended at the new middle school where there would be plenty of parking and a real auditorium for the show. Scan the QR code here to see Arnold riding a custom trike

pulling a custom sleigh with Santa and his helpers as they arrive at the school. After the kids walk around and look at the motorcycles and gather around Santa, they give something special back to the bikers. Families and the bikers gathered in the auditorium as the children of the Conover School put on a Christmas show, singing and acting out songs of the season. The theme for this year’s show was “A Southern Christmas” with the kids singing country songs. I don’t care how macho you are, you better bring something to wipe the tears from your eyes because it is such a touching show. After the singing, Santa hands out presents to the kids. After the show lots of the riders returned to the start at the Wizard Saloon for Mike’s famous soup and sandwiches. Then he gives away a bunch of cool door prizes. “There were mixed feelings about moving our 22nd Annual Toy Run to a new location this year,” said Principal Betsy Rosenbalm. “But there was no denying the joy on everyone’s faces when 600 bikers rolled into the Newton-Conover Middle School parking lot! From the first bike to the last song, the turnout and participation in our annual program proved that this event keeps getting better and sweeter with time!” “We are just good ole boys doing good things for other people,” Mike Dyson said. “Great weather brought out lots of bikers to help with this great cause. I want to thank all the people who gave us door prizes and donations to support the toy run. Thanks to Premier Printing for the cool t-shirts. Thanks to the Newton-Conover Middle School for letting us use their auditorium. My biggest thanks goes out to the kids at the Conover School for letting us do this. I thank them for letting us do something that is good for all our hearts. And check out the Conover School Toy Run on Facebook for comments on the toy run.”

Giving Santa To A Little Girl In Need

By: Rose and Lloyd The toy rides are over and it has been such a wonderful and fulfilling season. Children everywhere, that otherwise may have nothing, are going to have a Santa. My daughter called me a little over a week ago and told me of a friend, a girl she had grown up with in Siler City, who is a young woman that was a big part of the teen agers and young adults that were at my house a lot. Cody is now a beautiful young woman with a precious daughter, Mae. Cody is a single parent, was working full time and going to school. Mae got sick and she missed a few days. Too many days to finish her semester in school, and enough days that she lost her job. This put Cody in a situation of not being able to provide Christmas for Mae, and maybe not even some of the necessities. I suggested she call some of the agencies I knew about. Unfortunately she was too late to sign up. I posted the situation on my Facebook and a couple of my friends brought money for gifts, and clothes, and toys for Mae and Cody. Then my biker family, The United Riders Riding Club, decided to make one more toy run on Sunday, December 16th. The group filled a truck full of toys, clothes, and necessities such as shampoo, soap, and food. They even helped raise money to pay utilities for the family. Many times we go on rides, but we never actually see the children open the presents. It was a wonderful and heartfelt experience.

The apartment was full and eyes filled with tears as we watched this beautiful little angel open presents. Her smiles and laughter were the most wonderful Christmas present you could receive. Cody was overwhelmed with the generosity of people she never knew coming to help her at a time of need, but that is what bikers do. I want to say a special Thank You to everyone that helped and gave of their time and heart. A special Thank you to Chief Tyson of the Siler City Police Department, who had four police officers waiting to escort us right to the door when we rode into town. When the need is there, the bikers respond. There are angels among us.

By: Rose and Lloyd It is hard to believe that it has been 6 years since the first Toys For Tots run was held at Jr’s, but Oldog and Mama Kris have done it again. The last 6 years they have hosted the Annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Toy Run. The poker run was held on December 1st, but for weeks before that the Marines, Oldog, and volunteers were putting out toy boxes and gathering donations for the auction. The cost to participate in the ride was $15 or an unwrapped toy. 83 bikes and more riders showed up on a perfect fall day. The ride began at Jr’s Corner Tavern, went to Hooters in Greensboro, over to Game Time Sports Bar and then to After Hours. Returning back to JR’s Corner Tavern, Crazy Dave worked his magic on some chicken halves. As ususal, no one went home hungry and there was lots of good spirit and socializing after a safe ride. There was a 50/50, a raffle, and an auction with a lot of great stuff. The band Steel Horse played and money was pulled from deep in pockets to help these kids. As of Friday, December 7th approximately $2500 was raised with more coming in, 5 boxes of toys were full, with 2 bikes and a wagon donated. There are still about 15 boxes out to be collected by December 15th. Many thanks go out to the sponsors and participates, The Marine Riders, The United Riders, Amish Trading Post, I.H. Caffey, R.H Barringer, and many that gave of their time or helped sponsor in anyway. Remember, you can contact the Marine Corps Reserve (ToysForTots.org) all year, what little you can do is always giving a child a smile. The 6th Annual Toys For Tots Poker Run is in the books and I am sure Oldog and Mama Kris will give of their heart and time on the first Saturday of December 2013. So put it on your calendar and we will see you there.

By: Gypsy-Rose Photos by BikerBob On Sunday, November 18th, Freedom Biker Church of Angier held their open house. Open house was supposed to have been for two days in October but due to the untimely death of a church member, Carol Sutherland, it was canceled and rescheduled. Open house started at 9 am where they had a booth set up giving away toothbrushes to kids and adults alike. Besides the toothbrushes they had goodie bags being given to the kids by one vender, other vendors included two selling jewelry, purses, wallets and lamps, and of course there were plenty of Freedom Biker Church items to buy. HarleyDavidson had Jump Start simulator where adults and kids could get the experience of being on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle as well as a chance to win a one-day rental. This open house may have been for one day instead of the usual two days, but man was it packed with standing room only. Music was provided by The Apprehended Ones, and man they were great. Preacher Mike got up and announced that after the service there would be free food, hot dogs, chips, and a drink - every body’s favorite things free. Adults were giving a ticket when they went through the food line, which made them eligible for door prize. Preacher Mike also announced there would be a 50/50 raffle in which the money would go toward there new building fund. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but they have out grown their present location. The youth group was selling tickets to help a family out for Christmas. The father of two teenage daughters was paralyzed in a bike accident. There was also an announcement that on December 1st, they would be meeting at the church and would do a memorial ride in honor of Carol Sutherland. The ride would go from the church to Ray Price where they will join up with others for the annual Toys For Tots ride. They were asking that everyone bring an unwrapped toy with them. Preacher Mike turned the service over to Preacher Leon Russell from Lafayette, Louisiana who gave an awesome sermon. After the service and everyone was done eating they had a kid zone since there was no chopper church. In the kid zone the kids were able to take pinecones and peanut butter and make bird feeders, boy do I remember those days, they were also able to get temporary tattoos. What a great day for a get together for family and friends, brothers, and sisters. May you ride safe for what is left of this year and years to come.

A New Direction By: WildThing In a move that is sure to intrigue the riding public, Mark Wheelihan, owner of Greensboro Harley-Davidson, has announced that his dealership is sponsoring the first ever all female Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) chapter. This, of course, didn’t happen overnight. The concept has been on Mark’s mind for several months and it took him three months to climb the ladder of corporate H.O.G. and Harley-Davidson to get to the senior VP’s that gave him the green light. By the time you read this article, we all will be seeing ladies riding Harleys and sporting the logo for Chapter # 1, the Triad Bad Lasses! Fifteen years ago when Mark came to the Triad and bought the dealership, women riders accounted for a little less than 9% of registered motorcyclists. Today that percentage has risen to 20 – 22%! Harley-Davidson’s Rider’s Edge Course and other beginner rider safety courses are turning out record numbers of women whose next stop is the dealership. Then, guess what? Where and with whom are they going to ride? For many of today’s women riders, who are younger, from diverse walks of life, even some executive women, that have strong independent personalities are looking for a riding group that fits them. The concept of one-size fits all riding club does not appeal to all anymore. Mark sent out feelers in the form of an e-mail blast announcing a Mystery Meeting last August and about thirty women showed up to find out what was going on. They formed a steering committee to write bylaws and held a social for initial sign ups and to get acquainted with each other to decide on officer candidates and take suggestions for the chapter name to send to HD for approval. The group is committed to maintaining their focus on riding and having fun with a structure in place for fund raising and giving. Wow, a lot has been accomplished in a short time! A few reasonable restrictions will be in these bylaws which will practically mirror usual H.O.G. bylaws, such as the member has to ride a Harley, be a member of National H.O.G., pay dues, and abide by the participation rules, among others. And, guys, HD will not abide discrimination, so you can join the Bad Lasses if you want, but I’d be willing to bet all the officers will be females! Triad Bad Lasses officers were recently elected and they are: Director: Pamela Klug, Assistant Director: Lisa White, Road Captain: Cheryl Hughes, Membership Director: Kathleen Stump, Treasurer: Robin Pardella, Secretary: Cassandra Rauhauser, and Webmasters: Jill McLanahan and Diane Hollingsworth. I congratulate the newly elected officers and wish them well. Anyone interested in joining, contact Greensboro HarleyDavidson at 336-273-1101 and if you join by March 2013, you will be considered a Charter Member.

17th Annual Gaston County Toy Run For Kids

By: Tambra Ramsey The 17th Annual Gaston County Toy Run For Kids was held Saturday, December 1st. The weather could not have been any better. This run was established by Buddy Sexton to provide underprivileged children within our county a Christmas that they may not otherwise receive. The run is funded solely through donations and tee-shirt sponsorships. The ride was parade route with police escort beginning at Ranlo Church Of God and making 5 more designated stops within the county, where children were anxiously awaiting the arrival of all the bikes, and of course, Santa. Everyone enjoyed a breakfast donated by area restaurants. At approximately 11:30am, after a prayer by Gaston County Sheriff Allen Cloninger, approximately 1100 bikes were fired up and the run began with the roar of all those engines making their way out of Ranlo. We made our way throughout the county with the children waiting at every stop. At each stop, children gathered at the rear of five U-Haul box vans to receive their long awaited bounty, which included toys, and a treat bag. Some also received a coat, toboggan, and mittens if they needed them. To see the happiness in a child’s face is an awesome and unforgettable experience and to see tears in the eyes of a big burley biker is, well, what can I say? After completing more scheduled stops, one of which served everyone a bag lunch, everyone headed for the last stop at Catawba Heights Baptist Church. After the last toys and treat

bags were handed out to the children waiting there, we all went inside and enjoyed a bar-b-q meal donated by Hillbilly’s Bar B Q, Kyle Fletcher’s Bar B Q, and Market Street. Also raffle drawings for a 42” flat screen TV and a highly desired quilt made from toy run shirts from 1999 thru 2012 were accomplished. The run lasts all day. But if you ever ride on this toy run, I guarantee you will ride on it again, and again. The children of the Gaston County Toy Run For Kids thank all the participants for their generosity and love they were shown on that day. It is all about the kids!! God bless everyone and ride safe. See ya next year.

Breakfast For Brian “Yankee” Cashel

12911 Roxboro Rd. Rougemont, NC 27572 By: Caroline Last November 10th, after riding with Post 55 American Legion Riders, Yankee Cashel, was involved in a serious accident. Yankee is known to many in this area for his outgoing, caring personality, and I am sure that many in this area who might not recognize the name would certainly recognize the person who is so active in many benefits. Yankee, still remains in the hospital recovering from extensive injuries from the accident. It was only appropriate that his friends with the American Legion Riders pull together and do something to help. On December 8, the American Legion Riders put on a great pancake breakfast to raise funds to help with expenses. It was a great success - after all, who doesn’t like all you can eat pancakes and sausages? I also talked to Yankee’s daughter, Jillyn Cashel, who told me that although he is still in ICU and recovering slowly, his spirits remain high and hopeful. If you would like to contribute to help Yankee, you can contact his daughter at www.facebook.com/jillync or Ron Barron at rbarron@triad.rr.com.

Ray Price Harley-Davidson Toys For Tots Ride By: Angelica Roman A crisp morning gave way to warm sunshine as bikes began to line the street at Ray Price Harley-Davidson and Ray Price Triumph. Thousands of toys flooded the front of the dealership, spilling over barrels and boxes, and surrounding the large Christmas tree. Customers continued to bring more toys in, and wandered the dealership after registering for the annual Toys For Tots Ride, enjoying the live Christmas music from Frank and Friends. Upstairs, the MotorClothes Department set up a winter wonderland for our new Santa’s Workshops, a seasonal shopping experience, complete with personal shoppers, lots of gift ideas and merchandise, and helpful elves making sure each purchase was wrapped and ready for placement under the tree. The Ray Price Racing Team pulled their big rig around and everyone helped to load all the toys into the back. Ray Price, along with the Raleigh Harley Owners Group and the Raleigh Police Department, led the ride. Over 350 bikes filed in behind them, riding four wide! The ride cruised to downtown Raleigh for a veterans memorial service before heading over to the KMart and Sears parking lot in Garner. The Triangle Area Cruisers had nearly 150 classic cars on display, and Jim Austin was keeping the crowd entertained with music and announcements. The hundreds of riders came roaring into the parking lot, as onlookers stopped to take in the sight. The Meat House of Raleigh was serving up chili, and Groovy Dogs provided hot dogs for lunch as the crowd began milling around. After eating, everyone began voting for their favorite motorcycle and classic car by placing a toy in front of it. Craig Mason won with his 2006 Big Dog, and Larry Parish took home a plaque for his 1969 Camaro. Ray Price thanked everyone for joining the event and supporting the Toys For Tots Foundation. After the winners were announced came the big task of loading all the toys into the Army truck. Representatives from the Army and the Marine Corps, along with crowd, began grabbing toys from the parking lot and the Ray Price Racing truck. The truck quickly became overloaded, and the remaining toys and bicycles were loaded into a Ray Price truck to be delivered to the Marine Corps for their toy delivery. It is believed to be one of the biggest donations in the Carolinas. Ray Price, Inc. would like to thank all the customers and riders who donated toys, the Raleigh Police Department and Raleigh Harley Owners Group for leading and organizing the ride, the Army and Marine Corps, The Meat House and

Groovy Dogs for providing lunch, and K-Mart and Sears of Garner for their donations and providing their space. For more information on events and activities at Ray Price Harley-Davidson and Ray Price Triumph, visit www.RayPrice. com or call the Marketing Department at 919-832-2261.

By: Matt Danielson On Monday, December 4th we had a small victory in Cherokee, North Carolina. We were representing one of several motorcyclists who we are assisting with violations of G.S.20140.4(A), North Carolina’s Helmet Statute. As many know, law enforcement is writing numerous tickets in North Carolina for motorcyclists having improper helmets. Under North Carolina law, a motorcycle helmet must be FMVSS 218 compliant. North Carolina has taken the position that if a motorcycle helmet does not have a DOT label than it is not FMVSS 218 compliant. In the present case, our client was wearing a helmet that did not bear the DOT label. However, according to the trooper, it did bear a label on the inside of the helmet (this is why you do not take them [helmets] off) that identified the helmet as a novelty helmet not to be used as a safety device. Elizabeth Sorrell with our office is handling all of these cases pro bono. It is our position that North Carolina law does not require labeling but instead only requires that the helmet be FMVSS 218 compliant. Therefore, to prove a case against a motorcyclist the officer must offer facts as to how the helmet fails to comply with the standard. Since the labeling portion of the standard only applies to the manufacturer and not to the consumer, the fact that a helmet bears no label is not sufficient to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the motorcyclist has violated North Carolina law. Liz was offered a plea to have the client found responsible but no judgment would be entered, so no costs or fine would be assessed. She responded that the client would accept nothing short of not guilty. The case therefore proceeded to trial. After evidence and arguments on both sides, the court agreed with the motorcyclist and ruled that there needs to be an articulation as to how the helmet does not comply with the standard. Mark one down for the good guys. We have two more cases pending in Carthage, North Carolina Superior Court. We will see what happens. If they rule against us we plan to go to appellate court to get a ruling that will be binding statewide. We will keep you informed as to any progress. McGrath & Danielson,

HLF Toy Run By: WildThing Riders were just beginning to arrive at Preacher Steve’s Leather in the late morning of December 1st and forming a staging line along the front of the parking lot and spilling over to the yard next door. The weather was perfect and many commented that it was lots better than two years ago when the ride and meal were cut short because of the snowstorm! Steve was doing a brisk business in live Christmas trees and wreath sales and it was pleasant to see young families tie the tree to their vehicles and leave out with big smiles on their faces. In talking with Steve and Carolyn, I found out that this toy run started in 1992, a short two years after they moved back here from the coast to establish His Laboring Few Biker Ministry of Jesus Christ. The Ministry is now national with international chapters in Canada and Australia. The group also runs a rehab facility in Randolph County called Harvest Camp, a street ministry, regular church services, and children’s ministry based at their Thomasville location. After a nice ride down through the country, we piled in at the HLF Church in Thomasville for a warm lunch of sandwiches, soup, and chili. Steve explained that the procedure that the Ministry used to distribute the toys is that they take applications from parents with ages and genders of their children and provide appropriate gifts that the parents pick up the week before Christmas to wrap and put under the tree. This blesses the hearts of the parents to be able to give gifts to their children, thus the whole family is blessed. We had special prayer for all children before going on our way. I appreciate the HLF family for their commitment to helping the community and it is a blessing to all who rode that day to be a part of making the true spirit of Christmas come alive for area families. May the Spirit of Christmas be forever in your hearts. Ride safe.

Bros & Bro-ettes I know it’s 2013; I know it’s a New Year, I know that’s important to a lot of people, and I know some are looking forward to a great and prosperous year. And I know I’m supposed to be cheerful and exciting and uplifting with words of wisdom and hope and encouragement, and be wishing each one a Happy New Year. I am and I do but…….as I’m writing this I’m watching the news report of 20 children and 7 adults including the shooter that are dead! That’s EVIL continually taking over our Nation! It’s not the gun’s fault, as the media would have you believe, but the concentrated effort by the Liberal Progressive agenda to systematically remove all reference and need for Jesus from our society. Why do we pray after the fact, after the tragedy, after the EVIL has been allowed to do its vile destruction? I am continually amazed at how the churches, which were empty before, fill up immediately after a tragedy! How when there was silence before, prayers are said publicly immediately after! How prayer that is banned in the school is now prayed in and for the school! How preachers, who before were mocked and persecuted for their faith, are sought for compassionate words and prayers. 2012, and now 2013, are the results of decisions made in years past. Decisions to remove prayer from schools, to remove Christ from Christmas, to remove the cross of Jesus from salvation, to remove Christianity and replace it with

secularism, to remove the True and Living God and replace Him with your higher power! And now we have the results! EVIL! I do pray for 2013 to truly be a New Year for you and for our Nation. A New Heart’s desire for the truth of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! A new relationship in Jesus as we begin to pray continually and fill the churches weekly and teach our children how to pray, even in the schools! And we also pray for the families of those that lost their loved ones; how sad it must be facing this year without them! But what about you personally? Are you waiting for a tragedy? Are you only praying after the fact? Is God important? And what about Jesus? Don’t wait another moment. Make this year a real New Year! Pray the Biker’s Prayer on this page, mean it in your heart as you pray it out loud, and let’s begin taking back our children and our grandchildren and our Nation, through prayer and the Word of God. Let’s make 2013 a great and prosperous year in Jesus. Then we can all say HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine staff screens hundreds of jokes each month. We make no claim to being politically correct. Most PC jokes just aren’t funny. If you are offended by any of the jokes on this page, take heart in the fact that we go to great lengths to offend everyone equally. This is not a hate crime! At our house we call it “pickin” and it is symbolic of your acceptance in the group. We live in the United States Of The Offended, so get over it!!

If you believe in biblical prophecy, even the year that this goes into effect fits the chapter and verse! Gay marriage was legalized on the same day as marijuana. It makes perfect biblical sense. Leviticus 20:13: “A man who lays with another man should be stoned.” Our interpretation has been wrong all these years. An advanced Biology class was taking their mid-term exam. The last question was, ‘Name seven advantages of mother’s milk.’ The question was worth 70 points or none at all. One student, in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages. However, he wrote: 1) It is perfect formula for the child. 2) It provides immunity against several diseases. 3) It is always the right temperature. 4) It is inexpensive. 5) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa. 6) It is always available as needed. And then the student was stuck. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test, he wrote: 7) It comes in two attractive containers and it’s high enough off the ground where the cat can’t get it. He got an A.

BULLSEYE! “I’ve got to get this guy!” Coach said to himself. “He has the perfect arm!” So, he brings him to the States and teaches him the great game of football. And the Lions go on to win the Super Bowl. The young Afghan is hailed as the great hero of football, and when the coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants is to call his mother. “Mom,” he says into the phone, “I just won the Super Bowl!” “I don’t want to talk to you, the old Muslim woman says, “You are not my son!” “I don’t think you understand, Mother,” the young man pleads. “I’ve won the greatest sporting event in the world. I’m here among thousands of my adoring fans.” “No! Let me tell you!” his mother retorts. “At this very moment, there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn’t get raped!” The old lady pauses, and then tearfully says, “I will never forgive you for making us move to Detroit!

Who is Guilty Here? A wife is dreaming in bed and suddenly wakes up and shouts “Quick, my husband is home!” Her husband wakes up and jumps out the window!!

The Swede’s wife steps up to the tee and, as she bends over to place her ball, a gust of wind blows her skirt up and reveals her lack of underwear. “Good God, woman! Why aren’t you wearing any skivvies?”, her husband demanded. “Well” she said, “you don’t give me enough housekeeping money to afford any.” The Swede immediately reaches into his pocket and says, “For the sake of decency, here’s $50. Go and buy yourself some underwear.” Next, the Irishman’s wife bends over to set her ball on the tee. Her skirt also blows up to show that she, too, is wearing no undies. “Blessed Virgin Mary, woman! You’ve no knickers. Why not?” She replies, “I can’t afford any on the money you give me.” Patrick reaches into his pocket and says, “For the sake of decency, here’s $20. Go and buy yourself some underwear!” Lastly, the Scotsman’s wife bends over. The wind also

What do you call a woman with no a$$hole? DIVORCED!

A wife comes home late at night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom. From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two. She reaches for her husbands baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she’s done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink. As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. “Hi Darling”, he says, “Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say ‘hello’?”

Because I’m a man, when one of our appliances stops working, I will insist on taking it apart, despite evidence that this will just cost me twice as much once the repair person gets here and has to put it back together. The coach had put together the perfect team for the Detroit Lions. The only thing that was missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn’t find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win. Then one night while watching CNN he saw a war-zone scene in Afghanistan. In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Afghan Muslim soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight into a 15th story window 100 yards away. KABOOM! He threw another hand-

You may have heard that Hostess Bakery plants shut down. But you may not have heard how it was split up. The State Department hired all the Twinkies, the Secret Service hired all the HoHos, the generals are sleeping with the Cupcakes, and the voters sent all the Ding Dongs to Congress. A man boarded a plane with six kids. After they got settled in their seats a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over to him and asked, “Are all of those kids yours?” He replied, “No Ma’am, I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.” I was telling a girl in the pub about my ability to guess what day a woman was born just by feeling their breasts. “Really” she said, “Go on then...try.” After about 30 seconds of fondling she began to lose patience. “Come on, what day was I born”? I said, “Yesterday.”

26th Annual Randolph County CBA Toy Run

By: dpapabear The season for all the toy runs to help out all the different charities and organizations is upon us once again. And Sunday, Dec 2, 2012 could not have been any better weather wise and the bikers once again came out in huge numbers to support the Randolph County CBA Toy Run for the Baptist Children’s Mills Home in Thomasville, NC. This ride started out 26 years ago with only a handful of supporters and the Mills Home agreed only to give it a try. After all, a bunch of bikers? Cox’s H-D of Asheboro later joined in support of the event and it has turned into one of the best-supported rides in the state. Riders come from all across the state and even other states come to help this worthy cause to bring Christmas to the children of the Baptist Children’s Home. The boys and girls at the home look forward to hearing the roar of hundreds of bikes coming into the grounds each year, a sign that Christmas is just around the corner. The children, jumping up and down with joy and excitement were waiting outside the auditorium with homemade banners and signs welcoming the riders in. It is a JOY to see the bright, gleaming faces as the riders file in. Hot chocolate, coffee and snacks are provided for all the riders. The boys and girls also put on a “Thank You” program for us inside before opening some of the gifts. It gives one a joyous feeling hearing all the squeals and laughter of excitement as they tear into the gifts. As the evening is winding down, some of the kids go around giving hugs to some of the bikers and saying “Thank You!” This ride is the first Sunday in December each year. It starts with the staging and registration in the Dillard’s Parking lot in the Asheboro Mall on Hwy 64 in Asheboro, NC. As the riders sign in, the gifts are loaded into a tractor-trailer for transfer to the home ahead of the riders. Each year, more and more of the parking lot has been taken over by bikes of all makes, colors, and design. You can spend an hour just wandering around looking at the bikes, not to mention talking to old friends and

making new ones. The ride leaves the Dillard’s Parking lot around 1:30 for the trek to Thomasville. The procession is lead by Randolph County Law Enforcement Officers and picked up at Hwy 64/109 intersection by the Davidson County Officers for the remaining trip to the home. The string of bikes stretched out for several miles down the highway. This has become an expected event each year and the locals will come out in huge numbers along the route to wave and cheer the riders along the way. So if you missed the 26th Annual Randolph County CBA Toy Run this year, go ahead and mark your calendar for the 27th Annual Randolph County CBA Toy Run next year and come help us make some boys and girls extremely happy! We would like to thank all the agencies that help with this ride, by escorting it and blocking intersections for us, providing the tractor/trailer for transporting the gifts, and whatever else I missed, THANK YOU! Until we meet again, ride safe!

By: Judy Bortz Sunday, December 2nd was a beautiful day for a ride. It was the kind of day that I moved south for! CCHD held its 20th Annual Toys For Tots ride, and what a huge success it was! Everyone told me this ride is huge so I expected a good turnout, but have NEVER seen so many bikes on a single ride before. I have been riding my own over 30 years and this day just blew my mind! There were 890 bikes rollin, and well over 1000 souls on them! It was an incredible sight! The pile of toys donated went ½ way up the ceiling-high Christmas tree in the showroom. The New Hanover County Sherriff’s Department did a great job with traffic control on the ride through town. I know the wait must have gotten on some shoppers nerves, I love that both of the toy runs in Wilmington go by all of the malls! CCHD put on a Carolina BBQ for all attendees after the ride, and it was a delicious feed! There were a lot of mouths to feed, but not one rider left hungry that wanted to eat! CCHD and its HOG Chapter did a great job organizing this huge event. Last year they had 800 bikes, this year 890, I can’t wait to see how many next year brings out! I know that all the kids that the USMCR Toys For Tots donate to will be happy children this Christmas. And that, brothers and sisters, is what it is all about! Wishing all of our faithful readers a very Merry Christmas, and the happiest of HARLEYdays! All the pictures from the day are on our website at FullThrottleMagazine.com Be safe out there!

Nazareth Children’s Home Christmas Toy Run

By: Darby L. Dillard We were so blessed to have a perfect December day to have a toy run 12-8-12. The temperature was around 65º and the skies were partly cloudy. By this good fortune we assembled from 91-96 motorcycles according to several counts. The group picture shows only part of our group as we made a stop in Granite Quarry to pick up another large group of bikers. We began at Pat Roger’s Speedway H-D. Escorted by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department, we made our way through Concord, NC to the county line. There, Rockwell Rural Fire along with Salisbury Police and Boston Heights Fire Department escorted us to Fred’s south of Salisbury. From there Granite Quarry Police, Granite Quarry Fire Department and Rockwell Rural Fire Department led us to the Nazareth Children’s Home. With the siren blasting, the children greeted us at the door. That is such a blessing for us all! I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of our supporters. Pat Roger’s has been with us for many years, now. We got involved in 2008 and he was already a part of this. Pat and the Buffalo Troopers always help throughout the year at all of the events. Some of the members of The Buffalo Troopers supplied a Christmas dinner for us all. We were not sure if we would have enough with the large turnout, but there was plenty. God will provide! Horizon Lines (Betty’s employer) provided all of the items from the wish list for five of the children. My wife, along with friends of ours (I call them Betty’s gang), provided desserts and organized the event at the home. And “The Rockwell Gang” holds it all together in the Rockwell area.

After our meal it was time for Santa to give the children their gifts. I’m telling you, if you have never been part of something like this, my hope is you’ll come join us as soon as possible. Keep a check on http://www.BikersWithACause.com/ for upcoming events. It is truly a blessing for us all! Not only did the children receive gifts from their lists, but also thanks to many donations we were able to provide a sound system for the home. To close it out, we sang Christmas carols. It was truly a great day! I would like to close by saying thanks to all who helped. From the smallest donation from any individual to the largest from a company, this would not be possible without ALL of you! Thanks to our sponsors through the year: Pat Roger’s Speedway H-D, Showmars, Portia’s Pastries, Smiley’s Cycle Works, Law Petroleum, United Claims, Tank Services, DMI, Wanda’s Star Glazer and Moonwalk Co. The Rockwell Gang and Betty’s Gang!

Ronnie “Boog Langley Benefit

By: Gypsy-Rose Photo by BikerBob Saturday November 17, 2012 was a cold windy day but that didn’t stop Alan “Iggy’ Bruce from getting up at 3 am and heading to D & Q Motorsports. You may be asking why was he up so early? The reason is a simple one; to put a pig on by 5 am. This day was a day for a poker run and a pig pickin that was being sponsored by Seven Sabers Brotherhood and D & Q Motorsports. The purpose was to raise money for Boog and his family. On September 19, 2012 Mr. Langley was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He was able to take one treatment. There was $710 raised to help toward medical expenses. Even though it was cold 19 bikers along with riders came out to show their support and that’s not including those who came out in cages. Registration started at 9 am at D & Q’s and kickstands were up at 10 am and they returned at 1 pm hungry for some food. The cost was $20 a bike and $5 for a rider or an extra hand. The money raised came from the registrations and extra hands and the meal tickets that were sold to those who didn’t partici-

pate in the poker run. Those who did the poker run received a meal ticket with their registration fee. Door prizes tickets were given to those who purchased a plate. The Seven Sabers brotherhood also did a 50/50 drawing, which was won by Karl who won $107 and gave $80 back. Louie Baker won $20 for the best hand, which he donated back, and Donna Johnson won $10 for the worst hand, which she donated back. Although it was cold that day, which probably kept a lot of people away, as well as competing with the Raleigh Christmas Parade there was still a great group that came out and showed their support for the Langley family.
