Clay Balls A man was exploring caves by the seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn’t look like much, but they intrigued the man so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could. He thought little about it until he dropped one of the balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone. Excited the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left. Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could
have taken home tens of thousands, but he just threw it away. It’s like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn’t look like much from the outside. It isn’t always beautiful or sparkling so we discount it. We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person by the creator. There is a treasure in each and every one of us. If we take the time to get to know that person, and if we ask Hashem to show us that person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth. May we not come to the end of our lives and find out that we have thrown away a fortune in friendships because the gems were hidden in bits of clay. May we see the people in our world for what they truly are.

How Does Inflammation Affect Heart Health?
Inflammation is the way your body responds to a problem. Whether battling an infection or cancer, or healing from a bone fracture, your body needs to deliver powerful immune and repair cells to the impaired location through your bloodstream in order to fight and fix the problem. Inflammation is really designed to be an acute process that gets in and out quickly. The longer the immune and repair cells stay in a location, the greater the chance they’ll actually cause damage to surrounding healthy cells and tissues. Chronic inflammation, simply put, is acute inflammation that did not resolve properly. The result is damage and disease. This is why we call chronic inflammation the common denominator of all age-related disorders. Inflammation Wreaks Havoc on Your Blood Vessels All tissues and organs are very susceptible to inflammatory damage. But this is especially true for your heart and blood vessels. Chronic inflammation can damage the heart’s muscle cells, the heart valves, and the inside lining of arteries called the endothelium. This can result in the progression of plaque buildup, high blood pressure, an irregular heartbeat, murmurs, and even congestive heart failure. Chronic inflammation can be detected through blood tests, and one of the most common tests C-reactive protein - is also a risk factor for heart disease. Inflammation and heart disease risk are characterized by a high CRP blood level. Two studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine validate the role that C-reactive protein plays in increasing cardiovascular disease risk. The findings show that people who attained the lowest levels of C-reactive protein had significantly reduced rates of heart attack. The studies also showed that reducing C-reactive protein (CRP) levels alone cuts heart attack risk and slows the progression of atherosclerosis. For this reason, the researchers recommend testing CRP and lowering it if necessary.
Chronic Inflammation One of the best ways to control inflammation is to watch what you eat. Some foods, namely Omega 6 oils, can actually boost inflammation. Why? Because they contain a chemical compound called arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is the precursor to inflammatory signaling proteins like leukotrienes and cytokines. When these signals are released into your bloodstream, inflammation increases and tissue damage can occur. Additionally, eating too much simple sugars and Carbohydrates can increase C-reactive protein. What are the Best Anti-Inflammatory Nutrients? As you make an effort to eat healthier, consider supplementing with extract of boswellia. It is a medicinal tree from the Middle East that produces a bitter sap containing a compound called AKBA. This compound can inhibit a powerful inflammatory enzyme called 5–LOX. This is important because this one enzyme is implicated in about 1 million deaths in the U.S. from diseases like Alzheimer’s, heart disease and stroke. If you decide to supplement with a boswellia extract, be sure to pick one that contains 20% active AKBA. Supplementing with the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA is another wise choice. You probably have heard that omega-3 fats decrease inflammation. But what you may not know is that when they’re combined with olive fruit extract, the effects are actually better than with omega-3’s alone.

A Polish WWII doctor saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust by creating a fake Typhus epidemic which played on racist German phobias about hygiene. Just to preface this, this man was so influential that he was called “the Polish Schindler.” His name was Dr. Eugene Lazowski, and was a Polish doctor who saved thousands of Jews during the Holocaust with an ingenious scheme. He created a fake epidemic that played on German phobias to help save people. With the help of a friend, he created a fake outbreak of Typhus, a dangerous infectious disease. The Germans reacted by quarantining the area he had “designated” the outbreak to be at. In total, the quarantine saved around 8,000 Polish Jews from death in concentration camps. In doing so, Lazowski had risked the death penalty. Despite this, it was a great success, and he went on to live many more years. He died back in 2006.

Did you know...? In South America, scientist have discovered deliberately made “skull holes” that may have been made to treat painful headaches, brain disease, or to let “evil spirits” out of the head. Called “trepanation,” the process of making those holes was incredibly painful. The high number of trepanized skulls suggests that this brain surgery was commonplace.
