Gather ‘round friends and let us tell you a story of a little seed company that could. They’re the perfect story of the little guy that wouldn’t cave to government pressure, a true David and Goliath. They might just be the glimmer of hope you need to keep going and keep normal in all the chaos swirling around us. Once upon a time, in 1996, the federales were telling us that we needed protecting from ourselves and they still wanted us to believe that marijuana was the root of all evil after 70 years of proof to the contrary. One of the heroes of our story, a nuclear engineer named Rick Campanella (AKA “Mr. Soul”), founded technology and systems for growing MJ at a time when folks were throwing weed seeds in cornfields and hoping for the best. Mr. Soul developed all sorts of hydroponic

and climate-controlled systems along with sorting out the best times for cloning, trimming, pruning, harvesting and seed storage. Mr. Soul was so good at the marijuana grow thing, he developed strains famous all over the world, he upset the federal gubmint and he ended up moving over to Europe to pursue his gift of marijuana whisperer without the craziness we still have from the feds today. But while the tide is slowly changing, Mr. Soul is creating a posse of great guys who know their geography as well as the people who live within. And that’s part of the story. Y’all had your moment of panic, it’s time to settle down and return to your human form. You may want to start with your homegrown medical marijuana plants. It doesn’t matter if you are starting with seeds (did you see that Brothers Grimm Seeds are in OKLAHOMA?!?) or clones, when your tender babies are just starting out in life, applying growth hormones or nutrient supplements is not a good way to get them happy to be on this earth. Even good things aren’t good to apply early on; nitrogen, phosphorus and magnesium and other nutrients are too much for delicate plants’ root systems. Here’s why even plant babies don’t need chemical enhancements: your precious babies need time to form a root system. Magic nutrients give roots love, but only when

Many people suggest using things like Dawn dish soap watered down and sprayed on plants for aphids, but we could not verify if this is truly organic or not. We also heard stories that any treatment for tomato plants can work on MMJ, but we can’t suggest it without solid science
to back it up. We will suggest that you call your granny and ask her what she used to do for garden pests on tomatoes back in her day and try it on one plant first (maybe the runt?). Chances are still 50/50 you’ll have some success. If you can’t get to your grow supply, visit your local Tractor Supply and ask about tomato issues (which I highly recommend if you must do something; I LOVE Tractor Supply).

by Amiea Eleban and Amy Addams Right on the heels of 420 is 422 or Earth Day (April 22), which is another reason to be happy you are here, but even more so, it’s a reason for many of us to do a little reset in our thinking toward the Earth. We aren’t asking you to wear patchouli and tie dye (unless you want to), or reduce your carbon footprint to zero in one day, but dang, we could be a bit more self-aware, right? The signs we’ve gone too far have beaten us over the head. Here are some small changes we can make to celebrate our love of our home without too much hardship:

1. Try cutting back on the amount of red meat you eat. If you are a true carnivore, we won’t preach the veg diet, BUT trying to cut back on constant red meat is a start. It’ll save money and trim your waistline too. The Paleo Diet does NOT mean all the meat you want with little veg, people! Read the directions.
3. Use water a bit more conservatively. Shorten shower times, wash dishes when the dishwasher or washing machine is full (running the dishwasher is less water than handwashing, BTW). It can also grow in a variety of climates (marijuana’s illegalization was contributed to by the cotton industry, FYI). The company was founded by business students at the University of Colorado in Boulder who presented Sana Packaging as their final project. There are some things as 420 enthusiasts you need to do as a proponent of responsible marijuana use; the first is to reach out to your state and local government officials and ask why incarceration rates for marijuana are still so high in our great state. We incarcerate more people for marijuana than for any other drug. There also seems to be some concern as to where the tax money goes. It is our job to ask our officials these questions. UNCLE FUDGE’S FAVORITES substandard security or just spilled milk ADT is a trusted name in security…or so I thought. Their television, magazine, newspaper and internet ads tout how ADT protects our homes and businesses from those trying to rob or burglarize us. So, when it came time for me to purchase a security system for my business, I went with the company with the big advertising budget. A sure bet according to their advertising, right? Wrong! After signing a long-term agreement with ADT’s sales rep, “their professional installer” came to my business and “expertly installed” my brandnew security system. With motion sensors, glass breakage, and cameras I felt safe against those plotting to steal from me. After all, I was protected by ADT Pulse – the best of the best – so I believed.
Late one night I got a call from ADT monitoring service. Someone had thrown a brick through the door of my shop and took my cash register. When I arrived at the store the Owasso police were there investigating the burglary. They were very thorough in trying to find the culprit who had done this dastardly deed. An officer asked me if I could pull up the footage from my security cameras. Logging into my ADT Pulse account I felt certain we would have footage of the burglar, and this would be an open and shut case. What?!!! No video? The cameras had failed to work. There was no video of the burglary. I immediately contacted ADT and asked them what had happened? After talking with several ADT employees, I was eventually
informed that my “cameras had not been properly installed.” How can that happen I asked? The ONLY people who have touched my security cameras are ADT employees. Since it was ADT’s fault my cameras had failed, I asked if they would help offset the costs of door repair and cash register replacement. I was told “no financial assistance would be forthcoming.” I was pissed! I asked to cancel my contract for ADT Pulse service. I was informed, “The only way to get out of the contract was to pay the full amount of the agreement.” I stayed with ADT to my chagrin. You might now be asking yourself, “Why is this guy complaining about ADT now? Isn’t this just spilled milk?”
Here is the caveat to the story: Over the next couple of years I had several false alarms from my ADT Pulse system. It got so bad the Owasso Police Department began charging me $300 every time they responded to an alarm at my store. Yesterday I received a bill from the city of Owasso for $900! Who should have to pay this bill? Me or ADT? I am the responsible party for the $900 bill…and the ADT PULSE cameras and alarm system is now in a box in the storage closet. It works just as good there as it did installed in my store. I say all that to say this: ADT PULSE is the single worst security choice you can make to safeguard your cannabis business. My personal experience would not even give them a one-star rating!

It seems we’ve lost our minds with the Covid-19 thing. It’s scary, BUT we will come out of this. What we will also be is different, BUT in between times we also need to learn to be better versions of ourselves. The old rulebook is out the window.
